Reminder that Zuckerberg actively lobbied with Republican PR firms to make TikTok illegal because he couldn't compete with it.
Reminder that for all its faults TikTok has brought tons of awareness to important issues that barely got any coverage until they blew up on TikTok, and more that still barely got any mainstream coverage even after they did.
Reminder that TikTok has become the largest and easiest place for people to come together and organize, and has 150 million active users in the US.
Reminder that congress, especially conservatives, stand to gain a lot by banning it, because it means less people will hear about all the problematic (fascist) shit they're trying to pass, such as the 300+ anti-trans bills, the bills seeking to make abortion a felony punishable by death, or how they're trying to remove the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA). They also get to 'look tough' against China.
Reminder that claims of concerns over data privacy are bullshit, because China could literally just buy our data if they wanted it. Tech companies just like and including Facebook collect and sell our data all the time. China wouldn't need to build an app to get it.
Reminder that banning TikTok sets a precedent that Congress could come for literally any other social media they deem 'a threat' and ban that too. Yes, even your personal favorite one.
Reminder that we should care about this and instead of saying "Good Riddance TikTok!" we should be actively trying to stop this violation of free speech and stop handing more power to fascists just because we personally don't like a thing or think it's cringe. This is bigger than your personal tastes.
Please sign this letter from the ACLU to your members of Congress and urge them to listen. There's also a hearing this Thursday on March 23rd at 10am EST in DC where the TikTok CEO will be testifying before the House Energy and Commerce Committee. The hearing will be open to the public and will also be live streamed online.
I don't care if you hate TikTok or think it's "cringe." If you all actually hate Facebook and fascists as much as you say you do, then you won't stand for letting them win this fight to ban it.

To anyone being effected by the 2024 election.
The world did not end on November 5th. We are still here and we can still fight.
Do your research, write to your state, participate in protests, donate, do what you can to fight, but most importantly stay alive.
If you are a high school student
participate in a walkout
contact your school newspaper or yearbook and make your opinions known
create, join, or support the groups that help the minorities in your school
protect those being harassed
Keep fighting and don't stop fighting until we win.

At counter protests I wish they’d chant, against the pro-lifers, ‘women die’ instead of just ‘people die’
….but I made sure to say women die instead!
Grateful that the counter protest had a good turn out.♥️

i love seeing those advocacy groups that say they’re fighting to protect free speech on campus and i think that they mean advocating for the (peaceful btw) pro-palestinian protestors that have been brutalized by police and arrested and expelled en masse, but then i go to their website and they’re just advocating for conservatives to be able to say hate speech with no repercussions

Fundamentalist idiots have done it again. Frankensteining a bill to not only fuck over the good people of Nebraska with anti trans laws but also an abortion ban. How these two correlate with each other I don't know. Only in the mind of fascists do these two laws have any relation with each other.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm I wonder why
Hopefully with all of our effort we can fight these dipshits and restore the rights of the people.

By Gregory E. Williams
Two actions were held in New Orleans Feb. 12 against the latest attacks on LGBTQ+ people and other oppressed workers. These attacks locally are being spearheaded by Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry — who is running for governor — but the attacks are nationally coordinated and have been blessed by Trump.

Specifically state “I am invoking my right to remain silent.”
Until you utter the magic spell, refusal to speak has legal precedent to be ‘resisting arrest’
People living in the USA need to know this:
Do not organize a protest or discuss reproduction health issues via text, Facebook/messenger, Whatsapp, Twitter/DM, Discord or Reddit. That information is not private and you could be accused of committing a crime.
You can use Signal App for texting and have instant disappearing messages. Information is not saved or tracked. They have recommitted to this.
Take your face ID and fingerprint ID off your devices. If you are arrested, or incapacitated, law enforcement can use the biometric tools to unlock your device. Use a numerical or pattern code instead.
Turn off as much data tracking as you can on your devices. Look up the directions for your specific device.
Stop using Google Chrome, especially if you are trying to find information about reproductive health. Download and use Firefox instead.
Get a VPN. Have it use a server in a country that won't share your information. Romania is one of those.
Know your rights. Do not say a word to law enforcement. Do not give your name. Do not say anything but "I invoke my right to counsel."
All protesters should cover themselves so no identifying marks are seen. Cover tattoos. Wear a wig under a hat. Wear protective glasses. Bring water and try to wear cotton clothing.
Do not use whatever trending code word is being used. For example camping has been used so much everyone knows what that means. You'll get caught.
Our infrastructure is tenuous. It's probably a good idea to stock up on water and non perishable foods if you can.
Team up with a local mutual aid group now. Trust me on this one. It's gonna save a life.
Non USA people should and can share this. Most of us here (75-80%) can't leave and don't agree with what's been going on here since 2016. We will not qualify as refugees, so please at least help spread this information.

Oh...I did some research and I guess I was wrong? It looks like if I got on a plan thru the open market, even if the ACA gets cut later down the road I would get to keep the plan. So maybe MY plans aren't ruined...

dear americans,
as a polish queer woman and human rights activist, i know exactly how you're feeling right now and what to expect from these elections. i lived through the 2015-2023 regime of pis, a right-wing populist party that divided families in the same way trump did. i’ve experienced the rise of fascism in poland, the influence of far-right parties like konfederacja, and their “santa’s little helpers”—ordo iuris, an ultra-conservative catholic organization (banned in many countries, mind you) that helped enforce a near-total abortion ban and runs anti-queer campaigns in public spaces. i supported the black protests in 2016 as a middle schooler when they first tried to ban abortion. as an adult, i actively participated in the 2020 women’s strike, running from police tear gas daily after they finally passed the ban. i supported friends who faced charges.
i’ve lived through intense homophobia in poland as a queer teen and adult. i survived the first pride march in my hometown, where far-right extremists threw stones and glass at us. i endured the anti-queer propaganda spread by the ruling party in state-owned media. i survived the “rainbow night,” poland’s own stonewall moment in summer 2020, when police arrested around 50 queer activists following the arrest of margo, a nonbinary activist. i survived the "lgbt-free zones," the targeted violence, the slurs from strangers on the street, and the protests i held against queerphobia. it was hard as fuck, but i survived.
but just because i survived, it doesn’t mean others did. many women died because of the abortion ban—marta, justyna, izabela, dorota, joanna, maria, and many others who didn’t survive pis’s draconian anti-abortion laws. milo, kacper, michał, zuzia (she was 12), wiktor, and other queer and trans kids and young adults took their own lives because of the relentless queerphobia.
despite all of this, our experience in poland can serve as a guide now. here are some tips for staying safe and how we, polish queers and women, organized under the regime:
safety first, always. if you know someone who’s had an abortion, no you don’t. if you know someone is trans, no you don’t. if you know people who help with safe abortions, no you don’t—at least not until you know it’s 100% safe to share. if you are queer or have had an abortion, only share this with people you trust fully. most importantly, not everyone has to be an activist just because they’re part of a minority. if it feels unsafe to share that you're queer, trans, etc., then don’t. it doesn’t make you any less queer.
use secure, encrypted messaging like signal for conversations on potentially risky topics, such as queerness, abortion, organizing counter-actions, protests—anything that might be used against you.
stay anonymous online. if you want to research or report something without surveillance, do not use regular internet. get a vpn (mullvad is affordable and reliable), download the tor browser (for both onion and standard links), and if you plan to whistleblow, consider using a riseup email account.
organize and build networks. community is everything now. support each other, foster independence, because your government won’t have your back. set up collectives, grassroots movements. create lists of trusted professionals—lawyers, doctors, etc.—who can offer support.
to lawyers and doctors: please consider pro-bono work. this is what got us through poland’s hardest times. your work will be needed now more than ever.
for protests or risky actions: always write a pro-bono lawyer’s number on your arm with a permanent marker.
get to know the anarchist black cross federation and other resources on safety culture: "Starting an anarchist black cross group: A guide"; Still We Rise - A resource pack for transgender and non-gender conforming people in prison; Safe OUTside the system by the Audre Lorde Project;
for safe abortion info or involvement: get familiar with womenhelpwomen.
stay radical, stay strong, stay informed: The Anarchist Library
if i forgot to (or didn't) include something, don't hesitate to reblog this post with other resources.

Were you helping refugees at the border last week by donating to mutual aid groups or doing translation and outreach?
Were you calling for ceasefire and doing what you could to aid Palestinians last week? (Esims for gaza here)
Were you talking to your unhoused neighbors with respect and advocating for them and protesting encampment clearances last week? (There's no link just treat people like people and share cash if you can)
Last week were you participating in community meal shares and free stores?
Were you supporting bail funds and protesting the carceral state and trying to stop executions and humanizing incarcerated people last week? (How to write a letter to an incarcerated person)
Were you working to increase access to abortion medications and birth control and abortions in general last week?
Did you share information about DIY HRT and spend time paying attention to the books your school board was banning and make your lgbtqia friends welcome and included last week?
Were you aware of the groundwork being laid for a 2028 general strike and the ways that you could support one (contributing to strike funds, joining and supporting unions, attempting to unionize your workplace) last week?
Were you helping the people around you, were you caring for your friends, were you making information free, were you picking up trash, were you sharing a meal, were you tracking fascists, were you challenging the wrongs done by your government in the ways available to you last week?
Good. Keep doing that.
A better world is possible. Keep working toward it.

Polish protesters outraged by failure to soften abortion law
Polish authorities rejected a bill aimed at easing strict abortion laws, sparking protests in front of parliament, according to local media.
New protests against one of Europe’s strictest abortion laws took place in the Polish capital Warsaw on Tuesday, 23 July. Under current Polish law, women can legally have an abortion only in cases of rape or incest, or if the birth threatens the mother’s life.
More than a thousand people protested outside the Sejm (parliament building) in Warsaw, where they were confronted by a small number of conservative activists.
We had hopes that this would all end with the latest election, as the parties were very vocal in being on the side of women. There were precise pledges and they are not fulfilled.
The protest highlights growing frustration with the Tusk-led coalition, which is trying to undo many of the legislative changes made by the former government.
Some women are forced to turn to non-governmental organisations that buy abortion pills from abroad. However, it is illegal to help someone to undergo an abortion in Poland.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk supported a draft that would have eased restrictions on abortion in the country. However, the bill did not receive sufficient support and was rejected.
