The Prime Minister’s Orchid

This orchid was apparently named after the Prime Minister of Qatar when he visited here some time last year.

The spot around this part of the garden is rather crammed with various orchid hybrids. So exposure was biased 2-1/3 stops darker, not only to keep highlights but also to tone down and darken away neighbouring foliage.

I am Mohammed Almanasra, 32 years old, married, and a father of three children: Abdulrahman, 6 years old, Sarah, 4 years old, and Lina, 3 years old.

My story began with the loss of my parents and four of my sisters, who were bombed and lost their lives along with their children after the events of October 7 and the severe war on Gaza. Now, I am facing a severe injury to my leg, which is at risk of amputation if I do not receive the necessary treatment. My wife, children, and I are displaced, without parents or siblings, and my wife is also suffering from uterine cancer.

Recently, I moved to the south of the Gaza Strip, fearing for the lives of my children. We left behind our memories and our new home, for which we had not finished paying the installments, in addition to losing my job. Currently, I live in a tent that does not protect me from the heat of summer or the cold of winter, and without the minimum necessary livinng basics including water, food medical care, clothe and even bedding .

I suffer from a chronic asthma and severe attacks from tightness and an extreme allergy in the ear and I need medicine that are not available, or very expensive .

Under these difficult circumstances, after five attempts at displacement and narrowly escaping death from the bombing, I am trying with all my might to protect my family, the most precious thing I have.

My dreams were shattered, and my house was destroyed, and I found myself living in a tent no larger than 4 square metres. My work turned from a tailor to a street vendor in order to barely buy a few crumbs of bread to feed my children.

Look at what happened to my children because of the intense heat and the insects that thrive in the summer season. Every day, I take them to the hospital to treat them due to poisonous insect bites. I implore every kind-hearted soul to help me protect my children.

My son, Abdul Rahman, has a deep passion for playing football and is a devoted fan of Real Madrid. He always dreamed of playing football at his school, but the war prevented this dream from coming true.

"A ceasefire deal was reached Wednesday [January 15, 2025[ to end 15 months of fighting in the Gaza Strip, according to President Joe Biden, Qatar's prime minister and Hamas officials.

The hard-won agreement will also free dozens of hostages held in Gaza, as well as Palestinians in Israeli jails, bringing the first real break in violence since a weeklong truce expired Dec. 1, 2023.

The deal will take effect Sunday [January 19, 2025, this appears to be the prisoner release, not the ceasefire itself], according to Qatar’s prime minister and foreign minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, whose country hosted weeks of intense negotiations.

Under the phased agreement, Israeli forces would withdraw to the Gaza border, allowing displaced Palestinians to return to their homes and for the transfer of hostages and prisoners. Large amounts of humanitarian aid would be shipped to the enclave and hospitals and health care centers would be rebuilt, he said.

Hamas, meanwhile, will release 33 hostages in exchange for 100 Palestinian prisoners with life sentences, according to a portion of the deal shared by Hamas. Israel will also release 1,000 Palestinian prisoners who were not involved in the Oct. 7 attacks, the text says, and an unspecified number of Palestinian prisoners will also be released abroad or in Gaza...

Earlier, a diplomatic source in Washington told NBC News that Netanyahu was preparing to meet with his security Cabinet, where approval of the deal was expected quickly. He would then take the pact to the full Cabinet, which is also expected to approve. 

Israel’s Supreme Court would have 24 hours to permit an appeal, so the earliest a ceasefire could go into effect would be Friday [January 17, 2025], the source said. The first group of hostages would come out Sunday, the person added.

The war has shattered Gaza’s infrastructure and displaced most of its population. Health officials in the enclave say more than 46,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces, most of them civilians.

The chances for a ceasefire seemed vanishingly small after many false dawns in recent months.

In November, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant against Netanyahu for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity. Amnesty International and Doctors Without Borders in December accused Israel of carrying out a genocide in Gaza."

i've shared their fundraiser before, but i want to bring special attention today to Mohammed Al Manasra (@save-mohamed-family) and his family, as donations have continued to be very slow.

after spending months raising money to cover the evacuation fees for himself, his wife, and their three little children, Mohammed's gofundme was shut down and all the funds (amounting to about $35,000) he had worked so hard to collect were lost. the family has had to restart their campaign entirely from scratch.

Mohammed and his family were displaced after a devastating airstrike that took the lives of Mohammed's parents and four of his sisters, along with their spouses and children. he has been left as one of the few survivors of his family.

to compound the urgency of their situation, both Mohammed and his wife need vital medical treatment. Mohammed cannot get the medications he needs to treat his chronic respiratory problems, and is suffering from a severe leg injury that will lead to amputation if untreated much longer. his wife has uterine cancer and has not received chemotherapy or any other treatment for ten months.

meanwhile, their three children (ages six, four, and three) suffer from malnutrition, insect bites, and skin rashes from polluted water and the stifling heat of the tent. every day, diseases like hepatitis, cholera, and polio are spreading, threatening especially the fragile health of young children like Abdulrahman, Sarah, and Lina.
