J is for Jeff Winger! 

Jeff obviously does a tremendous amount of changing and growing throughout the show and I love him for it. His famous Winger speeches never cease to empower the group and he always knows just what to say, but as the series goes on, I think he uses them more for the benefit of the group rather than to benefit only himself, like in the earlier episodes. I feel like he gradually realizes like he doesn’t need to be a loner for these 4 years in college, and then he’s like maybe I don’t need to go back to being a sleezy lawyer and defending guilty people, and then he’s like maybe I don’t need to be a lawyer at all? He starts by learning to love the study group members all in their own way, and really becomes a (found) family man. And tried his hand at being a defense lawyer (RIP?). I love love love his realization in Introduction to Teaching that he might actually enjoy teaching! I feel like it’s a perfect finish to his transition from sleezy lawyer, to community college nerd, to actual good, kind, person. I think he really shows that despite what horrible background/childhood you may have had, despite the questionable life choices you’ve made, despite all of it, you can still change for the better and become a different person. 

I’ve included a few of my favorite moments from the show here. I love the foosball episode, among many others, for the bonding that Jeff and Shirley get to do. They are such sweet friends and I love seeing them together. In case you couldn’t gather from my blog, I am a massive Jeff/Annie shipper, so the Basic Sandwich storyline is honestly iconic in my book. I love their chemistry throughout the series and I really loved how their arc ended, and I lowkey/highkey think they’ll be together in the future after the show. ;)

I is for Ian Duncan! LOL ok y’all. Approximately 8,000 years ago I started a little thing where I would post some pictures & thoughts for each letter of the alphabet of something that was related to Community. Just to show appreciation and for a little fun! I left off last at H (you can check on my blog all the old posts are there!) and since I have a problem leaving things unfinished, I think I am going to pick back up now! Ian is introduced in S1E1 teaching Jeff a lesson about integrity! Which I love so much. He’s quite hilarious- I loved seeing him freak out in the psych experiment episode, trying to take over teaching the anthropology class, feuding with Chang, etc. I love how he really, actually bonds with Jeff in Bondage and Beta Male Sexuality (S5); I felt like that really helped bring their friendship full-circle. And in the same episode when he doesn’t take advantage of Britta’s vulnerability. I think that also really shows character growth and continues on the theme of his involvement in the study group and the Save Greendale Committee. One of my favorite Ian Duncan quotes: Señor Chang, is there a word in Spanish for someone who used to pretend to be a professor but was a teacher, but wasn’t actually a teacher, and is now a student? Is there a word for that? Oh. If it was in Spanish, you wouldn’t know, would you?

M is for Movie!!

Since we just talked about season 6, I thought it would only be appropriate for us to talk about #andamovie! 

I am dying to see a Community movie, and I think it would be so awesome to see where the writers & actors could take it! I read a post recently that addressed the need for a movie to tie up some loose ends- Annie is just starting on her forensics career, Britta is still working at a bar, Abed is just starting his first internship on a TV show, Jeff is teaching, Greendale is saved??? So I think there’s plenty to explore and plenty of fans to watch! 

I would love it to take place at or near Greendale- maybe a 5 year reunion-type thing, so the whole gang has to get back together. I would love to see crazy Community antics like paintball assassin, elaborate heists, dungeons and dragons, hot lava, etc. And I personally love complex episodes like Conspiracy Theories and Interior Design, Remedial Chaos Theory, and Intergluteal Numismatics, so I’d love to see some over-the-top plot like that. Also I think it goes without saying, I want Shirley and Troy to come back. SO much! 

Anyways- what do y’all want to see in a #Community movie???

L is for Ladders!

Season 6 Episode 1: Ladders!!! I was ecstatic, as I’m sure all Community fans were, to hear that we were getting a 6th season as we had all been dreaming of since season 2! (Still waiting on that movie!!! #sixseasonsandamovie !) Season 6 was one of the most bizzare seasons I think we ever had, but I loved it. I think show writers kind of knew it was a real possibility that the show would not get renewed again, so they really went all-out for this season. I think that they had the same kind of feeling for season 5, so it was somewhat self aware towards the end, but I feel like there were so many loose ends that needed tying up- which I think was quite well done in season 6. 

Episode 1 introduces Frankie Dart, who I hated as much as the study group did for a little bit, but quickly warmed up to her! Elroy Patashnik was introduced in the second episode of the season and I think was a really great addition to the Save Greendale Committee, however, I think he deserved more story time- though I understand there are already so many characters and previous arcs that were explored this season, I get it. But still. 

I think the blood oath, speakeasy, the general destruction of the campus (”Cut to everyone on campus getting as drunk as they want montage!”), and in the end the montage of apologies are all quintessentially Community staples. This season is definitely an excellent end to one of the best shows ever! ;)

K is for Kickpuncher!

I know Kickpuncher was kind of a minor thing, but I love what it was for the characters in the show. It was so fun to see Troy & Abed sharing this movie with Shirley, Chang, and Pierce. (Even if Pierce sucked the fun out of the second one.) And the remake that Troy and Abed made for fun! Also Abed watched Kickpuncher on his ‘date’ with that Secret Service agent?

I think the whole episode with Hickey and Abed from S5 when Hickey handcuffs Abed to the filing cabinets is an interesting exploration of both of their characters. I won’t get into it too much, but I think it relates so much to missing Troy and kind of being left alone. (That being said, I do love Annie & Abed’s friendship in the later seasons to remedy this.) I think Abed grows a lot after Troy leaves, but still retains his interests and enthusiasm for his prior interests.
