2024 Year In Review

2024 was another intense year. It was the first time in twenty years I wasn’t scoring a show for TV, and I got to concentrate on finishing albums and starting new projects. The year began with the premiere of my chamber symphony for Alterity Chamber Orchestra in Orlando and ended with guest-vocalizing with the Losers Lounge Band on a Bowie classic at Joe's Pub in NYC. I completed new albums for Xordox and Venture Bros, to be released in 2025. I released an Archer Soundtrack album and scored a Harry Smith film for L’Etrange Festival in Paris. Worked with Laura Wolf on a new project and premiered my Ensemble project at the Big Ears Festival in Tennessee. Recorded many overdubs for the next Foetus album, also to be released in 2025. Began a new series of sculptural wall pieces. We lost Phill Niblock in January and Steve Albini in May. We lost my colleague Roli Mosimann in September. I still woke up 5am in a panic on too many occasions. As a cultural omnivore, many sights, sounds and stimuli penetrated me.

I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Philippians 4:12-13

Contentment seems to be hard to find in modern society. In fact, one of the engines of the economy is disatisfaction. Much time and money is spent trying to make you disatisfied with what you have so you will buy what is being advertised. After you have purchased it, often it is not long before a new model comes out with a few changes that purportedly make it worth buying to replace what you not too long ago bought.

And so it goes. "New and improved!" is blared at you through every media possible, despite the fact that what is being advertised is rarely both new and improved. Yet because of the seeds of discontent sown through persistent advertising, people constantly spend money for things that do not satisfy  but spawn desire for even more things!

The apostle Paul lets us know that through Christ, we can do all things, including being content no matter what conditions we face. Whether we have much or little, increasing or decreasing, we can maintain our joy and peace.

This does not mean we do not want things to be better. It just means we will joy in things as they are whether they get better or not, much or little!

When our hope, trust, and faith are in Christ, we know that no matter what state we are in, it will be well with us!

i had a 3 day weekend because there was a holiday on thursday! so i took advantage of it and got a lot done <3

thursday:

- went to panera and did schoolwork from 11 am to 4 pm (there was a storm and the power went out for a few secs 🫨)

- went to a fireworks show in the evening with my boyfriend and smirnoff red white and berry

friday:

- finally charged my apple watch after like 6 months

- got a library card from my local library since i only had one from my hometown + did some schoolwork while i was there

- did some laundry <3

saturday:

- went on a 2 mile hike (hiking u r the loml)

- did more schoolwork from about 1 pm to 4:30 at a local coffee shop

- met some of my boyfriend’s family
