I noticed something interesting about A-Weng. It seems his title is 内监; not 大监, as I would have expected. Is he not the head eunuch? I’m not familiar with 内监 as a title, but from what I’ve seen, head eunuchs tend to be referred to as 大监

A-Weng’s hat is different from the other eunuchs and he serves the Emperor, so there’s clearly something notable about his position.

It’s interesting that the Emperor refers to A-Weng in such a familiar manner, given that his full name seems to be Shi Weng, based on how he was referred to by Miss Bai in this scene. I wonder how long A-Weng has known the current emperor for them to have such a close relationship

I’ve finally become endeared by A-Weng 😸 I was a little disappointed at first that the previous head eunuch was mostly only in the background or announcing things—then disappeared around the time skip—since I’m pretty sure he was played by an actor that I’ve seen in a couple different shows and was looking forward to seeing here. Anyways, I’ve warmed up to this replacement; the way A-Weng laughs reminds me a little of Gao Zhan, which is always wonderful 😸
