hey do you think figs are vegan
#if you enjoy figs and are easily grossed out STOP READING HERE#this is a filler tag to hide the below tags just in case#because a lot of figs are pollinated by wasps that die inside the fig#so with some varieties of fig you are likely to eat a wasp#a wasp is not vegan#therefore are wasp-pollinated figs that contain dead wasps vegan?#i don't want to have a debate about the ethicality of veganism or anything#i was just thinking about this and got curious

follow up question. if it’s ok to eat figs bc the wasp was already digested by the plant exactly /how/ digested to things have to be for their consumer to be considered vegan
#also someone said the wasps die of their own free will and. kinda.#it’s a male flower the wasp goes in and lays her eggs and leaves#but if it’s a female she can’t lay eggs and dies in there#and that is all fig fruits. that’s how they get pollinated#the wasp and the fig are both using eachother.#the wasp does not want to die in a fruit without laying her egg#so ok. stretch it. is eating carnivorous plants ok.#is eating something that can only grow and exist#because it is predating off an animal#even though it is not itself an animal#ok.#listen this is not discourse about like. vegan ethics and shit.#this is just. where is the line. and why.#because i think it’s interesting

I’m being good and sending the less cursed pizza image I have
You know
Bc pizza is gonna be a theme (I have so many pizza examples and I’m mad considering using them up before the movie)
are those figs? I'm intrigued. I can't deny it looks really fancy. you know my general feelings about fruit on pizza, but I'd give this a try, just for you
#are you one of those people who thinks figs aren't vegan because of the wasp thing?#i have no personal investment in it either way as i'm not vegan but i do subsribe to the sentiment only because i find it funny#food nonsense#ask#answer#pizza mutual#mthevlamister#phillycheesesteakcore

TFW you are so vegan that you have a dream about getting stung by a wasp and even in the dream you’re like “oh no, oh baby, oh darling, let me just help you get unstuck from me. Poor sweetie must have been so scared. I’m sorry for disturbing you, little one! I did not mean to get close to your nest like that!”

what hidden truths are revealed when people who are so so different from each other choose to love you in the same way
#i am thinking this week about how my mom just sent me the exact same ~thinking of you~ card that i have also received from my best friend#how different friends send me the same memes or gift me the same books#how close friends and loved ones remember what time i take my meds and remind me if i forget while we're together#when i'm sharing a meal at someone’s home and the person setting the table asks if i want a big fork or a small one#when people send me photos of random cats or bugs or other creatures they encounter in their day-to-day lives#and how last semester my boss found a beautiful moth and brought it to campus to show me and#my current preceptor found an abandoned wasp nest and brought it to the hospital for me#recently a few friends have told me (separately) that they want to spend more time with me bc they haven't really had female friends before#thinking about how many times i’ve had loved ones who were planning their weddings double check that i DON’T want to be a bridesmaid#how partners keep good vegan ice cream in the freezer because that’s my favorite post-coital snack#when people watch strange movies i love so we can talk about them together#thinking about the first time anyone calls me to say ‘i just wanted to hear your voice’#there is so much love in the world#how do i know if i’m giving enough back? how do i know if i’m doing it right?

I used to do some beekeeping and all of this is true but, for the vegans who still aren't convinced or are concerned abt the bees, I wanna explain a bit more of the honey process (I don't know as much as a more seasoned beekeeper but I know basics)
for starters, the bees willingly make honey because the honey is there food source too. they make honey to eat so they aren't under any harm making it. however, they also heavily over produce, they don't stop making honey, so any responsible beekeeper will only take some of their honey. bees can and will overfill their hives with honey and then quite literally abandon the hive because there isn't enough room for them in it anymore, leaving behind loads of perfectly good honey. if a beekeeper is any good they'll only take of the honey so they aren't starving the bees, but also are keeping the bees from pushing themselves out.
also, as far as honey extraction goes. I didn't have the nicer extractor that spins the frames but even the cheaper way of doing it is still humane. you just scrape the honey comb off the frame onto a strainer that lets the honey drip off into a bowl, and the empty frame gets put back into the hive for the bees to put new wax on it. the spinner lets the bees keep the wax, but also bees will continue making wax and honey regardless so it doesn't matter
vegans make peace with honey
no shut up do it
#again im not an expert but i have some experience so. thought id share why not#i rly love bees and i wish vegans would stop misunderstanding how they and beekeepers work#cuz w/o beekeepers bees would be worse off#ive seen so many wild hives get wiped out by wax moths or wasps. things that can be prevented and dealt w by beekeepers

The greatest thing about the scariest wasps and hornets and such is how they're such ruthless hunters but only their larvae eat meat. Imagine a single vegan mom who goes out in the woods and slaughters deer with her bare hands so her baby gets enough protein. That's wasps.

I keep wanting to make a post about Young-Earth Creationism but it is incredibly hard to summarize because it turns out that taking the Bible as a 100% literal description of scientific fact breaks things you wouldn't even think of.
It's the ideology that gets worse the longer you look. On the surface it's "lol evolution isn't real because god created everything" but when you investigate how this world of theirs actually works you get hit with "there is no consistent speed of light," "tigers and housecats are the same species and could interbreed," Noah's flood creating craters on the moon, wasps are literally, MORALLY evil, ongoing denial that any dinosaurs had feathers???, insistence that every carnivore can be vegan, plants not being alive, the whole incest thing,

So simple i guess, vegans eating honey instead if agave will save the mexican long nosed bats.
Vegans of tumblr, listen up. Harvesting agave in the quantities required so you dont have to eat honey is killing mexican long-nosed bats. They feed off the nectar and pollinate the plants. They need the agave. You want to help the environment? Go back to honey. Your liver and thyroid will thank you, as well. Agave is 90% fructose, which can cause a host of issues. Bye.
#this is again such a useless post#suggesting that vegans stop using agave in order to save the bats in mexico would be a solution#as if the vegan population is so huge that its impact on the agave harvesting would be so huge#as opposed you know other parts of the giant food industry#however yes harvesting honey does not harm the bees qnd the bees are pollinators#however bees are still an exotic species in most parts of the world to produce hiney world wide#and an insects are never pollinators of all plants#honey bees do harm native bee species and other insects#just as those hornet wasps are an exotic species disrupting ecosystem even more aggressively#so yeah idk i think there are a lot more harmful practices done in the world. and vegans are far very far from being a cause somewhere#like i hear about oh no vegans eat soy and soy farms are harmful and rainforest gets cut down for it#as if most soy isnt produced for animal consumption 🤔

a short essay about being bug hearted, and killing bugs.
I think one of the most cruel thing to love might be invertebrates. Insects. Arachnid. Worms. Pest. With any other animal, it is seen as unreasonable to want to eradicate. Some insects do manage to earn human's favors, bees (but only the useful ones), moths and butterflies (but only the cute ones), and if you're facing a true bug lover, beetles and dragonflies and perhaps even spiders and centipedes and scorpions. But not all, and it's still simply reasonable, to hate even seeing them.
I've loved bugs since I was a kid. I think it felt wrong not to, because people didn't like them, and people didn't like me. I don't think I've ever understood what in how they move felt less alive for people than a puppy. Still now I love bugs. I love mosquitos and I love botflies and I love hornets and tiny annoying ants that crawl through the windows and cockroaches and the wasp that stung me on the thumb when I accidentally grabbed a stick she was resting on when I was 9.
You cannot possibly live a human life without killing countless things. It's impossible. The most vegan, most peaceful human, refusing to walk on grass to not harm the grasshopper that didn't jump fast enough, will not be able to live a life without killing an insect even accidentally. It's something I have thought about a lot overall. I'm not vegan. I've thought about it. It would make sense, I don't see a lot of difference between my own flesh and the flesh I eat. But somehow it feels even more insulting, to be something that kills, and to pretend I don't. I eat insects, too. I wouldn't be able to tell you exactly how I feel about it all.
Maybe it makes me an hypocrite, to be so perturbed about the way people treat insects when I still eat meat. But it's, I think, in the end, the fracture between someone seeing a dead cow, and a dead fly. Most people wouldn't have the courage to kill a cow. They would feel guilt. In fact, a lot of people already hide the fact that meat is flesh and is, strictly speaking, part of a cadaver. People who refuse to eat a fish with the head. Pork, not pig. Beef, not cow. I hate that too. But insects ? People kill a fly without even thinking about it. It's annoying, then it's dead. A dead fly doesn't elicit guilt.
People expect me to be the same. Even knowing I love insects, it's seen as amusing that I acknowledge them as more than a mindless automaton, and, if I can, if it costs me nothing, avoid killing them. I have killed countless insects. I've had to, purposefully, many many many times. But it is, in fact, killing. I just want to be allowed to recognize that.
I work in a lab, on ants. We dissected more than a hundred, ovaries, poison gland, brains, understanding how they work, how differentiation happens and how they communicate it. Reconstructing brains to evaluate changes in different structures, measuring how many proto-egg each individual has post-dissection and correlation to dominance, reading articles and articles about theory.
These specific ants like shallow humid grooves for their nest. Today we tested a large foraging arena, brightly lit for the cameras, dry, wide, open, empty. Ants panic after being picked up even with the least harmful tools we have. When in an unfamiliar space, we've had them in the past run until they died of exhaustion, unable to find the entry of the nest to hide. Two of them were placed in the foraging arena to test the cameras, test if we could read the tags they have on their back. Again and again, they like to follow the walls, possibly because it feels less exposed. And again and again, they stop, groom each other, and calm down if they meet, huddled into each other.
I can't claim to know what's going on in ants brain, whether they feel things similarly to us. But it's hard not to project.
Ant tagged 16, and ant tagged 12, close, unmoving.

Any gonta gokuhara headcanons?👀
Ofc!
The reason Gonta hates bananas, is because he doesn't want to be associated with Tarzan and be seen as a wild brute.
He's actually very hygienic and cleans himself a lot, to be healthy
Even if Gonta's speech is tilted, he still knows the basics of scientifical research (falsifiability, dependent, independent variables and so on)
He's vegan
While he's a fan of most bugs, he's not a fan of parasitoid wasps
He loves wearing dresses
Over the years, Gonta was exposed to tons of bug bites, which actually made him immune or at least very resistant against most diseases.
He's not as stupid, as he looks. Even if he can be dense, he's pretty insightful
The reason Gonta doesn't have shoes, is because he can't find shoes in his sizes.
He's a skilled dancer and loves classical music.
He's not a fan of vulgarity at all
He has a sweet tooth but is scared to admit it since gentlemen shouldn't eat.
Hope you liked em ^^

ok but this really wont work. you might as well just be killing the ants outright, because thats whats going to happen to them once you put the plate outside.
ants cannot survive without their colony and will die in at least 6 hours if they're separated.
if you do not have the queen then you might as well just crush them now and save them the panic and fear of trying to get back to their colony before they die of stress.
saw this wonderful exchange between 2 older vegan women in a local vegan group im part of on fb—plus tips on humane relocation of/deterrent of ants without killing them ❤️🙏
#I'd honestly just say whatever and let the ants stay until the queen and the colony died out on their own from lack of food#or until they decided to leave on their own#bc theres no way you can rip the car apart to find the queen#veganism isnt always 'leave them alive no matter what' especially when it comes to situations like this.#i have to kill wasps that end up in my room because otherwise they'll be trapped in my window and i have to watch them slowly die over the#next few weeks---getting more and more panicked as they try to escape through the screen.#i hate it and i wish i could just release them but i know that literally is not possible seeing as i cannot catch them and i have a hard#enough time hitting them with soap water.

do u have any hcs about hugh
For sure!
Hugh and Fiona are vegans
Hugh has low blood pressure and has to take care not to become diabetic because of his high honey intake.
He simply loves insects, bees and wasps are his favorites obviously, but he loves all insects.
He has favorite bees
He is extremely sensitive and holds a small funeral for each of his bees that dies, he never forgets any of them.
He and Fiona work together to take care of the children's garden and vegetable patch.
Hugh helps Fiona choose the figures for the carved bushes she makes.
The bees don't actually live in his stomach, but rather in some organ exclusive to him that allows the bees to live inside him.
He cares so much about his bees that when he gets sick he expels them all so that they don't get sick too, or have their quality of life affected by his illness.Outside the house in the garden there are hives where he houses his bees in these situations.
He and Millard have a great friendship.
He is very good at board and card games and loves playing with friends.
He and Enoch get along very well, they both like themes like medieval wars and weapons of war.
He and Fiona have affectionate nicknames ♥️🐝
