“Hey daddy-o!” Stiles said happily entering his childhood house.

“Welcome home son” The Sheriff said hugging Stiles. 

Stiles just came back from his training at the FBI quarters in Virginia. He he was glad to be back home, who would have thought that he would miss Beacon Hills. 

“The place looks cleaner than I though it would!” Stiles teased. He expected the place to be a mess, now that the Sheriff was living alone. Noah rolled his eyes. “Look at that you even brought flowers to decorate the place” Stiles said pointing at her purple flowers on the table. The flowers were in a small pot and they looked new.

“That was actually Theo” The Sheriff claimed. 

Stiles stopped and stared at his father. “Theo...?” Stiles hadn’t heard about the chimera in so long. Scott told him he stayed and that he helped sometimes when a creature attacked. The true Alpha claimed that Theo had changed, but Stiles still wasn’t sure about that. “Why would Theo bring us flowers?” Stiles questioned confused. 

“He is working in a flower shop downtown. He must have taken it from there” Noah responded. 

“In a flower shop?” Stiles snorted. A flower shop was probably the last place he expected for Theo to be working in.

“He hasn’t done anything illegal in sometime. He is helping Liam with the supernatural stuff. I’m giving him the benefit of doubt” Noah allegued.

Stiles would see about that.

Theo heard the bell of the shop ring, he separated from the desk and put on his fake customer service smile. “Hello, Can I help you?” Theo asked.

“Holy shit, my father wasn’t kidding, you actually work here. Wearing that fake smile is probably hurting your face like a bitch” Stiles responded.

Theo rolled his eyes with a little smile on the corner of his lips. It was impossible not to recognise that voice full of sarcasm. “Stiles, you’re back. It’s good to see you. I have to say that I’m honored that you’ve decided to visit me” Theo smirked.

“So flowers. That’s your next evil master plan? Are you putting poison in them or something like that?” Stiles questioned walking around the shop examinating the flowers.

Theo snorted. “You shouldn’t leave again, I don’t know how Beacon Hills survives without you, It only took you one second to uncover my master plan. Whatever am I going to do now?” Theo teased. Stiles looked at the chimera and Theo chuckled outloud. “You should probably go to Mrs Doyle’s house she is my best customer and she is helping me create an army of ferocious plant humanoids to control Beacon Hills. I can’t be a werewolf Alpha but I can be the Flower Alpha” Theo joked. Stiles bit his lower lip to control himself not to laugh. He was in an interrogation mission after all. “She brings me pie sometimes” Theo added.

“Oh, so it’s the pie privileges then” Stiles let himself smile.

 Theo smiled back. “I needed the money Stiles, It’s just a job. I’ve been on my best behaviour” Theo claimed.

Stiles hummed out loud. “So, i’ve been told. It’ll still be the judge of that” 

“I wouldn’t have expected anything else from you” Theo agreed. 

Stiles broke the eye contact. “I should leave… I guess I’ll see you around” The FBI gent said awkwardly. 

Theo stood silently looking at Stiles before asking “You don’t want to buy anything then?”

“You already gave my father flowers” Stiles said.

“They were for you, to welcome you home” Theo proclaimed. The chimera moved closer and took a flower from one of the pots before offering it to Stiles. It was multicolor tulip, If Stiles’s basic knowledge of flowers was right. Stiles lifted his eyebrown. “Peace offering? I have employee’s discount” Theo smirked.

Stiles huffed a laugh but took the flower before exiting the shop.

Maybe It had been Stiles all along. Maybe it was him the one who attracted the monsters. He had only been back for a couple of weeks before a new creature attacked again. And the thing had kidnapped him. Thankfully although Scott wasn’t in town as he was attending university, It seemed that Liam had everything under control. The Puppy Pack as Stiles had decided to called them were very resourcefull. 

Stiles was wounded, but nothing too serious. The rescue mission had been a success, and whilst Mason was carrying Stiles out of the cave in which he had been imprisioned, Stiles could see Liam and Theo fighting the werecreatures that took him. 

Stiles couldn’t help but to focus on Theo. The chimera fighted with a lot of rage, like he had been personally affronted. Maybe he considered himself part of the Pack, he wanted to be useful. Whatever it was, Stiles had to admit that he was galo that the chimera had helped. Theo had been fighting to survive all his life, and he was smart enough. probably the third smartest person in the Pack, after Lydia and Stiles himself.

The Sheriff took Stiles home. He needed to rest. When Stiles entered to his took he noticed the colones of the room. The window was open. Stiles was pretty sure that he hadn’t left it like that, he opened his eyes and his ears to a possible threat. He walked cautiously into his room. But the room was empty. Maybe he was imaginating things. Stiles closed the window and moved to the bed. He grunted in pain. But before he playing on the bed he saw the flowers spreaded on top of it. 

Theo. 

Theo entered in his room and left the flowers. Stiles picked them up. They were pretty, white and pink. Theo was really trying to get on his good side. Stiles smiled. He put the flowers in his desk and got into his bed, he needed to sleep.

The next time Stiles returned to Beacon Hills, it was on his birthday. It was only a month after they defeated the werecreatures that kidnapped him, and thankfully, Stiles was already healed.

Scott told him to drop by his house at seven, Stiles was sure that he had organised a party for him.

“Dad, I’m leaving, I’ll text you with whatever” Stiles shouted descending the stairs.

“Wait! You have a present” Noah claimed.

“You’ve already given me my present. You didn’t have to get me anything else” Stiles said to his father.

“It’s not from me” The Sheriff said giving him a basket full of blue flowers.

“You’ve got to be kidding me. He is stealing them for sure!” Stiles said taking the flowers. They cam from Theo, obviously, there was a note attached to them that said Happy Birthday Mischief. That brought back memories. His mother used to called him that when he was little. Theo and him were friends were his mother was still alive so he probably remembered her calling him that.

“Blue it’s your favourite color, isn’t it?” Noas asked.

“He probably remembers that too from when we were in little league together. He is trying to remind me that we used to be friends” Stiles responded.

“You still don’t trust him?” The Sheriff questioned.

“Actually I do. But let’s not tell him, I want him to keep trying” Stiles winked and Sheriff laughed.

Stiles arrived to the McCall household and as he predicted, they had organised a birthday party. Stiles greeted his friends, Scott was happy that he managed to gather almost everyone. Stiles saw Theo at the end of the room placing the food and rearranging the chairs.

“Just how big it’s your employee’s discount?” Stiles teased.

“You got the flowers” Theo said smiling at him.

“Yes” Stiles thanked him.

“I got a peperonni pizza from the place you like too” Theo said pointing at the food.

“Flowers and pizza? Are you trying to seduce me?” Stiles joked.

“I read online that when someone is mad at you, you should get them flowers and give them food. You know I was raised by three crazy scientists, I don’t know how to human, don’t tell me I’ve been doing it wrong!” Theo explained faking a shocked expression.

Stiles laughed out loud.

Stiles was happy to be back home, although the reason why he came back was a sad one. It was the anniversary of his mother’s death. He didn’t want to leave his father alone on this day.

They both went to the cementerio to pay respect to his mother and to leave them flowers as they had always done.

Stiles noticed that his father held a beautiful bouquet with many flowers of different colors.

“Theo?” Stiles said signaling to the bouquet.

“Yes, I though I’ll use the famous discount” Noah joked and Stiles snorted softly. “He had already made the bouquet, he as going to give it to you even if I hand’t appeared” The Sheriff claimed.

“That’s weird he had already left town when mom died” Stiles added.

“That boy likes to investigate as much as you” Noah smiled.

Stiles huffed softly. “So he chose the flowers?” Stiles questioned.

“Yes he did, why?” Noah asked.

“They are quite colorfull, that’s all. I though he would have chosen something more white or light colored” Stiles explained.

“He told me this were the more fitting flowers. They are called Zinnia and apparently the meaning of the flower if the are various colors mixed its: In the memory of” Noah allegued.

What?

“The meaning..?” Stiles asked.

“You know, the meaning of the different flower types, like roses mean I love you and all that” The Sheriff explained.

Stiles felt as if something really important had been revealed to him.  Like he had finally found the missing piece. Theo had been giving him flowers. Should he had payed attention to the meaning of them?

When Stiles came home, he did what he did best. Investigate.

Theo was almost ready to close the shop when he heard the doorbell ring. He silently groaned walking towards the door. 

“Hello, we are almost ready to close, may I help yo… Stiles!” Theo said surprised.

“Can I still buy a bouquet?” Stiles asked.

“Yeah… sure, what did you wanted?” Theo questioned.

“Roses” Stiles smiled.

Theo nodded. “You’re lucky we are receiving a lot of roses as Valentine’s Day it’s close. Do you have a like a… date?” Theo inquired.

“Are you asking me If I have a date for Valentines Day?” Stiles chuckled.

“Who are the roses for?” Theo asked. Stiles noticed that Theo looked nervous.

“They are for my father” Stiles responded.

“That’s a weird choice” Theo huffed a laugh. He looked relieved now.

“Because of the meaning? Because you usually give them to someone for romantic purposes?” Stiles questioned. Stiles couldn’t feel like, cause he wasn’t a werewolf but he was absolutely sure that Theo’s heart had just skipped a beat. “I’ve been studying the language of flowers lately you know… It’s kinda fascinating” Stiles proclaimed.

“You’ve always loved a good mystery” Theo said meeting eyes with Stiles.

“Yeah, I’ve always had” Stiles said not breaking the eye contact. The human could feel electricity in the room. He had been blind how hand’t he realised it before.

Theo handed Stiles the roses. “I hope your father likes them” 

“They are for Natalie” Stiles claimed. Theo looked at him with confusion. “I want my father to stop pinning so he is going to give her the flowers. Sometimes all we need is a little push” Stiles explained. Theo nodded. Stiles turned around pretending to leave but he turned again t face the chimera. “You’ve been giving me flowers, with meaning…” Stiles muttered.

“It took you long to realise” Theo teased, but Stiles could see that he was unconfortable and a little bit afraid.

“I think I should give you one too” Stiles added.

Theo closed his eyes. “The carnations are behind you” 

“Not that one.” Stiles grabbed one of the roses from the bouquet. Theo looked at him with a shocked expression. “Not a rose neither, we are not there” Stiles added placing one of the roses’ leaves on the desk.

“A lea-f?” Theo questioned.

“I thought you were the expert in the language of the flowers. figure it out” Stiles smirked and left the shop. 

Theo rapidly took his phone.

Rose (Leaf) - You may hope.

Theo smiled happily.

Stiles was really getting sick of this shit.

AO3 stats project: tags

In this post, we'll discuss tags on the Archive of Our Own! Please note: because the works on the Archive include explicit material, some of the tags discussed in this post may not be appropriate for your workplace.

The Data | Basic Questions | Fandoms | Tags | Correlations | Kudos | Fun Stuff Thanks to @eloiserummaging for beta reading these posts; any remaining errors are my own.  A Python notebook showing the code I used to make these plots can be found here.

The Archive of Our Own has one of the best tagging systems around. You can read more about it here, here, here, or here. For our purposes, the important part is that users can tag their works however they want, and then a group of people called "tag wranglers" sort those tags, either adding them as synonyms of existing tags or creating new canonical versions for them. What I'll be showing here is the "canonical" version of the tags. For example, a work tagged "flufffffff" or "so fluffy!" would have those two tags assigned to the canonical tag "Fluff", so I will consider both of those tags as being "Fluff" to get the most accurate count.

The other important thing about AO3 tags is that they come in four flavors. The first one is "warnings", the content warnings required by the Archive (plus the default tag indicating you're abstaining from the warnings system). The second flavor is "Characters", tags describing the characters in the work. The third is "Relationships", tags describing the platonic or romantic relationships depicted in the work--typically, "X/Y" indicates a romantic and/or sexual relationship between characters X and Y, while "X&Y" means a platonic relationship, although this usage isn't universal and isn't enforced. The final category is "freeform", aka everything else.

Again, the tagging system is freeform and optional. In particular, I'll note that "character" tags and "relationship" tags don't necessarily imply each other: you can have a work tagged "Sherlock Holmes/John Watson" that only features Mycroft Holmes, or that features John and Sherlock but doesn't tag them as characters, only as the relationship. So remember that--while it's pretty good on average, because people tag their works so readers/viewers can find them--the number of uses of a character tag isn't the same as the number of works that feature that character, for example.

Okay! So what are the most popular freeform tags on the Archive? If you read a lot of fanfiction, I doubt you will be surprised by anything on this list. Left column is the top 15 tags by number of uses, while right column is the top 15 tags by the cumulative hit count on every work tagged with that tag.

Are these tags consistently popular over time? For reasons of space, I’ll just plot the top 10 by number of works:

If you look back at the works vs time plot in the second post, you'll see that yes, the shape of these trends is similar to the total number of works, so trends in fannish tastes haven’t changed much over the time the AO3 has been in existence. (These show a little more bumpiness because there are fewer works in each plot.) Some of these have gained a little more recent popularity vs earlier works--smut, fluff, and the two specific alternate universes are a little more weighted towards later times, while humor and general AUs are falling a little behind--but the differences aren’t as large as we saw for fandom trends in the previous post.

I'm sure you're curious about characters and relationships. Here are the top character tags, omitting the catchall character tags of “Original Character(s)”, “Original Male Character(s)”, “Original Female Character(s)”, and “Reader” (all of which would otherwise appear in the top 15). Supernatural is so big, and so focused on so few characters, that Dean Winchester is the sixth most popular tag on the entire AO3.

Clint Barton is way higher than I would have expected.

Sherlock Holmes is slightly less popular than anal sex.

Original female characters are more popular than anal sex.

Similarly, cuddling is more popular than A/B/O.

Harry Styles is less popular than 3/7ths of BTS (at least as of sometime in 2018); Louis Tomlinson barely tops Draco Malfoy.

Alcohol comes between Katsuki Yuuri and Viktor Nikiforov.

Prompt - Scott's older sister goes on a date with Peter as Scott and stiles try to stop it Pairing - Peter hale x reader Warnings- none Story Peter had come out of his coma killing Laura to take the power of the alpha he felt was rightfully his. He's created a beta, even if Scott was unwilling to join the pack. Peter could always think of a backup to force him. Now Derek and Scott both knew Peter was the alpha and wasn't in a catatonic state. Peter didn't see the need in hiding away anymore.

Peter's first plan was going to be Scott's adoring mother. He went to the hospital looking for Melissa McCall, when a sent caught his attention. He followed the sweetie intoxicating smell, finding a young beautiful girl in hospital overalls following another doctor.

Peter looked at her and knew without a doubt he needed to talk to her "sorry excuse me could you help me find ward 6 please" Peter said making conversation. The other older doctor told her to go he'd find her later after he'd seen a patient. "yes it's this way follow me" she blushed making Peter smirk. "I'm Peter Hale" he said in the lift trying to get her talking. "I'm y/n, y/n McCall" Peter's smirk grow even bigger.

You had only been back in beacon hills a week. After finishing university you started medical student training in the hospital your mother worked in. You had missed home and had a chance to continue with your goals of becoming a doctor. Your first day couldn't have gone any better, the staff was kind and supportive. No doubt thanks you your mother. You picked up everything quick and to end the day you had a date with a handsome man. Scott was sat in his room talking to Allison as you popped you head round his door. "hey I'm gonna be home late tonight" you tell him. Scott stirs at you making you feel nervous "what's wrong" you ask him in a panic. "nothing you look.. Look" he started "amazing" Allison jumped in for him. "yes you look amazing. Wait what do you look amazing?" he asked.

"well Scotty boy, I had a dinner with a rather charming medic rep from work" you say. Scott started to frown he knew everyone in the hospital and couldn't work out who or what a medic rep was. "what medical rep?" he questioned. As you went to answer the doorbell rang "that medical rep" you panic "I'm not ready Scott answer the door and please be nice to him" you beg running back to your room to get your shoes on and do last minute touches.

Scott went to open the door but could sense Peter on the other side. Ding dong the bell went again as you shout again for him to open the door. Scott watched at the handle turned opening from the outside. As he looked out panicked he saw no one there "Scott" you shout from the stairs "invite him in" you say. Scott spins seeing Peter at the door.

Peter hears you call you'll only be a minute or two. Giving him a chance to talk to Scott, putting his hand out to stop the closing door. "Really? Slam the door in my face?" Peter smoothly said. Scott looked around thinking of what to do next "Come on, Scott. Take a second to think that through." Peter warned him before Scott tried anything else "I'll tell her" Scott panicked

Peter laughed "That I used to be a catatonic invalid with burns covering half my face? Good luck with that." Peter told him knowing no matter what Scott tries to you. "If you hurt her, if you even touch her" Scott started but Peter quickly cut him off "Scott, if I may interrupt your listing of the top five most impotent-sounding threats for a moment, try and remember that I've been in a coma for six years. Don't you think I'd like to have dinner with a beautiful woman?" he told the teen. Scott's face dropped thinking it over.

You come to the door "I'll just be one more minute I promise" you say running to get you bag from the living room. Peter turns to a pale looking Scott  "Or maybe You think that I've come up with an idea. Like how it might be easier to convince you to be part of the pack if your sister is, too" Peter says" Scott swallowed hard as Peter moved in close to him "You need to understand how much more powerful we are together. You, me, Derek and pretty little y/n." Peter said. Before he could answer you came out ready.

Peter looked at you his eyes in awe "you look incredible" he said offering his arm out "shall we?" he asked. You both walked out to his car, leaving Scott scared and worried. He ran up the stairs hunting round his room for his phone. "I'm sorry, I know you want to talk and do to but please just wait here ten minutes" Scott says to Allison getting his shoes "I wouldn't leave you if it wasn't important promise me you'll wait" he begged her. Allison sat on the bed as he ran out calling stiles.

You was in the car while Peter drove watching the road confused to where you was going. "everything okay" Peter asked you giggled nervously "yeah I think you missed the turn for the restaurant" you say looking at the missed turn. "oh, should we pull over and check the map on your phone" he said pulling over to the side of the road. Taking your phone put of your bag Peter stirs at you, making you feel nervous "is something wrong" you ask with a small laugh. "nothing, you have the most incredible skin, flawless" he says making you laugh. "that's a new one" you blush at the compliment. "may I?" Peter asks as he lifts his hand to your face stroking it gently. The touch made you drop your phone.

Peter watched you duck down to find the phone. He could feel his eyes and fang beginning to show, he had to fight every part of him wanting to bite you there and then. He knew from the second he smelt the sent in the hospital you was his mate werewolf or not he knew his heart belonged to you. As he leaded in to bite you a crash made you both jolt. Peter's face went back to normal as you got out the car to see who hit you.

"stiles!" you scream seeing his blue jeep. "wow y/n what a funny coincidence" he tried to lie but you knew better then that. "I think we need to call my dad for the whole department" he says scared looking at Peter who was glaring at him. "the will be no need for that" Peter says charmingly walking back to the front of his car while you start to scream at stiles.

"Well played Scott" peter says looking for his beta "I know you're there, Scott, and I'm impressed. It's too bad most teenagers aren't that smart. It's like that one on the lacrosse team Jackson. Thinks he knows all about us. You know how they say knowledge is power. Not in his case." Peter says hearing Scott run off to save another friend.

You asked stiles what the hell was going on it was too coincidental he crashed your date."your date, well I think he's dangerous, your on a dangerous date" stiles said make you raise your eyebrows at him "oh and care to tell why that is" you ask annoyed "because he's a hale related to Derek Hale the murder my dad is after you can't trust him he could be a killer too" you went to speak but stiles carried on “we think hes going to kill to get at scott” thus is when you laughed “why would Peter want to kill me to get to Scott for they don’t even know eachother” you say

Peter was impressed by the betas plan even more so when he heard the sound of hissing coming from his back tire. Peter  walked over to her interrupting her current conversation. "I'm sorry to say during stiles little bump my car is now has a flat tire. May we rearrange our date" Peter says kissing your hand. With nothing you can do about it and stiles quick to offer you a lift home you sadly left. Peter went to hale house, his phone rang "you not going to get that" Derek asked Peter as they heard Jackson banging on the door he was locked behind. "it's another problem for another day" Peter snapped throwing the phone on the table. Derek looked at the caller ID recognised it Scott's sister. "that's your plan to get Scott on side, using his sister" Derek asked not impressed. "isn't that what Jackson's for" Peter answers sarcastically. Derek didn't buy it for a minute folding his arms over his chest. "no Derek I'm not using y/n to get at Scott, I was keeping her out of all this stuff for now" he said truthfully "so why is she calling you, I didn't know you even you knew her" Derek pushed more.  

Peter sighed knowing Derek wasn't about to give up until he got answers. "she's my mate" Peter tried to make it sound unimportant. "I was going to take her out last night but Scott and stiles interfered. she calling to rearrange" peter said. Derek was taken back a little, still thinking his uncle was incapable of love. Before he could ask anything else a crash came from the room Jackson was in. you saw Scott sneak out, curious you followed him to see where, he’d been acting differently since you came back you wanted to know why. Scott went to beacon hills reserve, you pulled up walking at a distance in the wood. scott was to focused on tracking Jackson he didn't know he was being followed and not just by his sister. as he entered the Hale house, Scott jumped in front of Jackson showing his fangs to Derek defending his former enemy. Peter calmly walked out, grabbing Jackson by the throat  as he pleaded for his life. the three wolfs spent a few minuets in an intense stir out. Scott planning what to do, Peter watching him panic as Jackson gasped and begged.

Derek was the first to turn away when he heard someone approaching. "Scott" all of them froze at the sound of your voice. peter smirked as Scott's heart quickened in fear for his sister. " okay peter lets make a deal I be apart of your pack, ill do anything you want me to just please let them go. Jackson and my sister don't hurt them and ill join" Scott begged. Peter dropped Jackson on the fall "he's not going to hurt your sister" Derek said as the door opened

you walking into the burned out house remembering the stories of the fire. you see the four boys all stood silent looking at you. something was off you could feel it "what's going on?" you ask looking at Scott. peter was the fast thinker, "he's being a brother, Scott and his friend came here to warn me not to harm you" he said in a charming tone making you blush looking at him then frown at Scott. Scott looked at peter confused uncertain why peter was being charming and covering for him. Scott thought maybe Peter was covering for himself he didn't want y/n to know but why would that matter if he was planning on killing her.

As  you went to tell Scott to come home Derek shouted "cover your eyes" the next few minuets went by fast a hail of bullets and arrows came from outside spilling into the house. peter grabbed you dragging you in using his body as cover. Scott was the first to see and smell the blood, "y/n" he screamed as everyone else's attention turned to you. the shooting outside was still ongoing as peter and Scott both took your pain and tried to stop the bleeding, "turn her" Derek said seeing how much blood you where loosing. "no!" Scott screamed trying to block peter, "if I move her she'll bleed out an die in minuets if we stay those hunter will kill us all" peter said back trying to make the young boy see sense. "but what if the bite kills her" Scott argued back. "Scott its not going to kill her i know it wont now just let him" Derek shouted trying to keep Jackson from getting hit.

Scott knew they was keeping something from him, but Derek was always keeping something hidden. He had no time to question it, the footsteps to the hunters was close and you was dying in his arms. Seeing no other chose Scott looked at peter "okay do it, bite her please don't let her die" Scott said almost begging peter. he didn't need to be asked twice, peter sifted looking into your terrified eyes.

your tired to back up looking at Peters fangs, Scott held you in place telling you it was all going to be okay. you screamed as Peter bit into your neck, almost fainting. Derek and Jackson tried to go but couldn't with the gunfire. Looking at the others Derek shouted "get them out" as he went to the front door creating a distraction. Peter scooped you in his arms running out the back Scoot and Jackson not far behind.

once back home both peter and Scott didn't leave your side. Derek eventually knocked after losing the hunters. Scott felt you with Peter not really wanting to but Derek pointed out if peter wanted to hurt her he's had plenty of chances by now. Downstairs Scott wanted answers and trusted Derek a little more then Peter for the truth. after asking and finding out Jackson was just leverage to get Scott on the hale side. he asked the true questions bothering him, "why is Peter acting weird round y/? how did you know bite wouldn't kill her? what wasn't you both telling me back at the house?" he fired questions at the youngest Hale. Derek took a breath knowing peter was listening and if he didn't want Scott knowing the truth he'd have come down by now. "peter was never planning on hurting her, I knew she'd take the bite because she's always destined to be a wolf." Derek said. Scoot looked more confused then before.

Upstairs, you was in bed all the pain had gone. you could hear your brother and Derek talking like they was in the room with you. "she's Peter's mate, that how I knew. Its probably the reason peter bit you that night in the wood's. in his wolf form he could sense the d.n.a of his mate" you opened your eyes sitting up. Peter was next to you a small smile on his lips "how you feeling sweetheart" he asked you low. "different" you said still adjusting to the change in senses. "is it true what there saying" you ask as peter tills his head listening to them talking about what mates are. "yes" peter said "but don't worry to much about the wolf dynamics" you nodded unsure what he meant "how about to start with we try that date again and take it from there?" he asked holding out his hand. you took his hand smiling nodding at him.

when you got to the kitchen Scott ran hugging you, "your okay" he repeated a few times. "I'm fine Scott" you tell him. peter and Derek leave the room giving you booth chance to talk. Scott filled you in the whole truth, about when he got bitten, about stiles knowing, about the Argents and other hunters. How they set the hale fire and Peter wanted revenge,, how he sent stiles to sabotage your date with Peter. You took all the info in still overwhelmed by it all. "about my date," you started making Scott look at you "Peter asked me out again" you tell your little brother. "are you going?" he asked still having strong doubts about peter. "yes I've already told him I am" Scott went from unsure to angry "have you not been listening to what I told you, Peter is a kill...." he said before you cut him off. " he saved my life" you corrected him. "he could have left us to die back there but he didn't I owe him a date" before Scott could argue back Peter and Derek came back mainly to say goodbye. you hugged Peter thanking him again "anything for you sweetheart" he said Scott pulling a face but didn't say nothing. Peter leaned down giving gentle kiss on the cheek " see you at seven" he whispered in your ear before leaving you happy and excited to see him again.

OOOH, I WAS RECENTLY GIVING THE SAME ADVICE TO MEG BONNEY ON TWITTER. Okay, here we go. Let’s do this. 

How To Start Writing Fanfic for Beginners: 

Okay, so, the first thing we usually do is have a beta reader-- someone who looks over stories and checks for writing flow, typos, and, most importantly in the case of fanfiction, characterization. You find one before you start writing so that you have a cheerleader who can talk about ideas with you and push you through when you feel like you wanna quit. This is a formality, though, and can be skipped. My one-shots usually are in the 20k+ range so I like to have three or four people look over them, but if I'm writing a 6k one shot, for example, I only have one beta reader.

I’m actually pretty sure that the origination of this practice actually came from everyone trying to figure out how to make friends in fandom. If you're the beta reader on someone's story, you're automatically buddies. Google docs has made this way easier, though-- it used to be long email chains. *shudders*

Step two, decide which host sites you're going to post your fic on. Different fandoms are more popular on different fic sites. The most popular fanfic sites are http://fanfiction.net , http://archiveofourown.org (AO3, we call it), and sometimes tumblr, depending on the length of the fic! 

So, for example, the Percy Jackson fandom is really really into http://fanfiction.net (or at least was when I was writing for it?) That's where you get the most reviews/comments and the most hits for that fandom. In the case of Teen Wolf/Stydia the most popular site is AO3, easily. But if the piece you wrote is a drabble (in the 1k range), you can also plop it on tumblr. If it's in the 2k range, it's acceptable to put it on tumblr under a "read more."

For all these sites, you need an account, but AO3 is technically in beta mode (idk why; it's been like that for multiple years?) and therefore you sign up and then have to wait for an invite. But it's worth it because once you have an account, you can view the history of the fics you've read, bookmark faves, leave comments, and, of course, publish fics.

Unlike ffnet, AO3 also categorizes fics into fandoms, which is really really helpful if you write for multiple fandoms. Their sorting system is really good and really specific, which is why people use it. I think that, at this point, AO3 is undoubtedly the most diversely enjoyed site.

Here's some things you definitely need to know about posting on AO3: 

(This is SUPER important), it's considered REAL bad manners to tag characters/ships that aren't the centric pairing. So, the fic is gonna ask you for characters and the ship. If you're writing a fic where Stiles and Lydia are the centric pairing, you're gonna fill in Lydia Martin, Stiles Stilinski, and then Lydia Martin/Stiles Stilinski. But say your story also has a few scenes with Scott? Either don't mention Scott, or do "Scott McCall- Side.”

The reader should be able to clearly tell what type of fic it is by your tags. (Unless you don’t want them to know). You can create your own tags or you can use the site's already established ones. AO3 tags can get slightly obnoxious but nobody’s going to call you out for that so enjoy. 

If your fic takes place within the bounds of the series, you tag it "Canon Compliant." If it not only fits with the plot of the series but also takes place literally during the series, tag it "Missing Moments." If it diverges from the plot line of the series, you tag it "Canon Divergent." If it is after the series is over, tag it "Post-Canon." 

If it’s AU, tag the kind of AU it is. “Coffee Shop AU” “AU-- The Hunger Games” “AU-- Everyone Lives” “AU-- Stiles is Olaf from Frozen and gets it on with Anna who is Lydia.” (Spoilers for my next fic.) (Just kidding.) 

ALSO when you're posting, it's a huge struggle because AO3 either requires HTML coded stuff (for italics, etc) or rich text. My suggestion would be either putting your fic on tumblr and copy and pasting the rich text from the finished post, or getting an account on ffnet and using their document uploader to c+p your fic into, then save it and copy and paste it into the rich text part of the fic loader on AO3

Here's what you've got: G,T, M, E. 

 G is like... no swearing, no mention of sex, you could read it as a bed time story to a 6 year old.

T is swearing, acknowledgment that sex exists, maybe some kissing (but you're getting to shaky territory as soon as you venture anywhere remotely past second base) light, non-descriptive violence (there's also a tag for violence under "archive warnings" because some people get triggered by it.)

M is lighter sex scenes (I would say anything that doesn't describe genitalia? Idk, this is a real fine line. I think you’ll feel it in your bones. Or, bone, in the case of smut. 

Nailed that joke. 

HA GEDDIT. I did it again.

E is like, you're going to hell for writing this, enjoy hanging out with satan in the fiery pits, I hope it's worth it.

If you post on tumblr, tag appropriately. Tumblr tagging is different from ao3-- you just tag to sort things, and so that the right people see your work. So, like, if you wrote a Stydia fic, obviously don't tag it Sterek or Sciles because you'll get hate, lmao. You can tag character names, but I would suggest you don't tag "Stiles Stilinski" or "Lydia Martin" because the Sterk/Mrrish/Stlia shippers tend to attack you. Also, only the first five tags count.

And now, the Don’ts of fanfiction***

Make sure your spacing doesn’t look awful. 

It makes people not wanna read it 

You should know what regular spacing looks like. If you’re able to correct it so that there’s not eons of space between paragraphs, I would do that. 

Don’t say “Sorry for the bad summary I promise it’s better than it sounds” in your summary. 

“Their tongues battle for dominance” or other equally cliche dialogue

Original characters as main characters

Fandom crossovers are almost always rolled their eyes at in the fic community. Like, you can thrust your characters into a different universe, but normally, you can’t use the original characters. So by all means, write a Percy Jackson AU, but don’t make Fitzwilliam Darcy best friends with Annabeth Chase. 

POV SWITCHING IN YOUR FIC

Okay this is really delicate because some people can do it really well and some people can’t

Switching back and forth between character point of view within one section of your fic is really hard for the reader to keep up with and it tends to look clumsy. It’s a no-no. 

If you have divides between sections, that’s where you can switch POV. 

However, I tend to write almost all of my fics with just one POV. I pick Character 1 or Character 2 no matter how long it is. It’s cleaner that way. 

NEVER USE FIRST PERSON IN FANFICTION, IT IS UNIVERSALLY LOATHED. 

I need to remember this one-- don’t describe clothes too much. You’ll sound like a cheesy YA novel. (I’m a hypocrite, okay?) 

Titles matter. Work hard on picking a title. I s2g it actually makes a big difference. Idk why. Titles. 

***Side note: All writing rules are all allowed to be broken. There is truly no such thing as a steadfast writing rule. The more comfortable you get with writing, the more comfortable you could be with breaking these rules. Does that make sense?

Feeling incredibly sentimental today and since we are also on the brink of Austin’s birthday I figured it would be okay to spill my emotions out tonight. Since last year I have DEFINITELY grown more attached to Elvis himself not Austin! Elvis but I will never be able to thank Austin enough for the wonderful job he did at portraying this man and causing me to do research and fall for him. Because of Austin’s incredible work, I was able to deep dive into Elvis legacy and meet all these wonderful, lovely people here in the Elvis community. I miss him despite having never known him and I wish he was able to see the impact he still holds today and that we love and accept him for who he really was. Knowing him and Lisa are together now helps because those two love each other with their entire hearts and she always protected him. He would be so proud. And I’m so grateful to Elvis for bringing me to ya’ll :

Mccall ( @blainesebastian ) the first friend I messaged on here, thank you for being so kind, so loving, gracious, and fun in all our interactions and always willing to lend me an ear. I adore you endlessly and I am eternally grateful I can call you a friend.
