So, I read a fanfic called “none but thou shall be my paramour” and it was so well written that it completely changed my opinion on “Doctor Faustus”.

Before that I was primarily a fan of Goethe’s Faustopheles and viewed Marlowe’s version of these characters as inferior, but now I understand that they are simply different.

If Goethe’s Faust/Mephistopheles is a relationship built on mutual jealousy, then Marlowe’s Faustus/Mephistopheles is a relationship built on mutual hopelessness.

Both are divine in nature, but are eternally damned (partly because of their own conviction of this being true). Faustus and Meph inflict pain on each other as a way to show affection, because suffering is the most intimate element of their character.

I have a lot more thoughts about Goethe’s “Faust” because throughout my year long hyperfixation I’ve read a lot more on it than on anything else, but this post isn’t about that.

okay I don't honestly make original posts about fandom but I'm cordially inviting people to interact with me. about Paul locked tomb series. please interact if you are a paul LOVER and ENJOYER. their name is silly but I really like them and am saddened to see many people in the Paul tags on various sites more just lamenting the end of Camilla and Palamedes existing but like look. Paul is really cool. they're cute and I think they're actually really awesome and I'm GLAD for Camilla and Palamedes's Steven Universe fusion. I want MORE of this character, even at the expense of those two. where are the other Paul enthusiasts at.

ahem. anyway im so normal about him.

definitely normal about how despite 13 years of living as a slave and forced into being an assassin/killer for the empire that played such a big role in destroying his life. totally normal about how before that he likely had to deal with his mother and her abusive behaviours towards him. MOST CERTAINLY NORMAL, about how he still cares for others and is still willing to lend a hand (see: the first sidequests you can access in game. literally just helping out the hideaway residents with mundane tasks like helping carrying wood and bringing people meals) despite the abuses and oppression and judgment he's suffered from so many people throughout his life. (i think its mentioned in game how at the start of his shield training he was mostly seen as just being indulged by his father. and that if we weren't any good at it people would have just thought he was a spoiled lordling or smth like that)(also, as the duchess, annabella likely greatly affected how clive was viewed by the people of rosaria. she treated him as a firstborn failure, and there were no doubt people who followed that example either because they believed her rhetoric or wanted to try and get/stay in her good graces. this would have affected everyone from the nobility, to the common people, to the servants of the household, at least to some degree) Every achievement clive did has been fought for through pain, and still he has come out as an empathetic and honest person (who cant lie lol. which is ironic because he was an assassin???? im guessing that means he just stayed silent most the time and slapped his scowl in his face as a defence idk)

just. ugh. i love him and the themes of resilience throughout his character arc go soooo well with the game and its emphasis on human will and freedom - even if that freedom involves evil being present in the world, as there will always be good people present too.

HEY EVERYONE do you remember my story I'm making?? With my own little blorbos?? No?

Well let me remind you!

At a crossroads in small town Sweden, there's a hot dog stand with a unique business model: If you can guess the Vendor's name, you get your food for free! BUT. If you fail, you owe him your soul. Yes, he is the literal devil.

A mid/late 20's guy called Tobbe stumbles into the stand, and immediately decides that that is the eaxct type of guy you want to be best friends (or more) with.

Above, we see Vendor and Tobbe, the stand, one of the customers (a high school music teacher/man killing water spirit)(Näcken), and an old friend of the vendor (a local activist/guardian spirit)(Huldra).
