what music have you been listening to with your new headphones? I need more music recs.
oh you've released the beast /silly
music is one of my special interests so fair warning this might be a LOOOT of rambling lmfao >w< !! more specifically im REALLY into 3rd wave emo & metalcore !!! ill go through and bold all the song / band / album names in here so its easier to navigate through my infodumping.
today i've been listening to a lot of Cobra Starship!! specifically Viva la Cobra!! it's really upbeat and it's been helping me take my mind off of the weird constant anxiety problem ive been having rn lol >,<
afaik Cobra Starship is liiiike a combo of electropop and pop punk! I saw them live when i went to WWWY last year and it was a suuuper fun set!! (except they pulled out Tara Yummy in the end?? which was a little weird to me but idc)
i think my favorite song from them actually isnt even off Viva la Cobra, it's probably Pete Wentz Is The Only Reason We're Famous silly title !!!!
i've found that metalcore is actually REALLY fun w my new headphones because the gimmick with them is that theres a wheel to increase the bass and it straight up like rattles on your head. like u can FEEL the bass. which is awesome for me as a sensory seeking autistic person bc being able to "feel" the music is my favorite part.
my favorite metalcore band absolutely ever is The Plot In You (IM SEEING THEM NEXT MONTH!!!!!!!!! RAAAH). I think they have a really unique sound contrasted to most metalcore bands of like .. modern day?? idk how to word it but theres a sirius xm radio station called Octane and a lot of the stuff on there reeallllllyyy sounds the same >,< !! so its nice to have a band that stands out.
my favorite song by TPIY ever is Dear Old Friend, and my favorite of stuff that they've recently released is Spare Me !!! I also fucking LOOOVE Premeditated when it comes to their older / "heavier" songs !!! (content warning for that song because its about murdering a rapist)
Silent Theory is another metalcore band I really love because they have really unique vocals and just really stand out against a lot of things that are being released lately. Made Me This Way is a favorite of mine for like ... coping reasons !!
my favorite band absolutely ever is Bayside !! a 3rd wave emo band >w< !!!!!! (i saw them at WWWY but we didnt stay the whole set so i HAVE to see them again) the bass gimmick hasnt been AS fun with emo bands generally but i still love them so it doesnt rlly matter all that much lol >w< !!!! my favorite song literally EVER in the whole wide world is Masterpiece by Bayside!! and my favorite album ever in the whole wide world is Interrobang by Bayside !!!!!!
Bayside has helped me get through some really hard patches in my life and they just mean so fucking much to me and i love them so so much.
Another emo band that means a loooot to me is Senses Fail !! i saw them for my 19th birthday and it was sooo much fucking fun bc the crowd was so rowdy. Calling All Cars is my favorite even though its kind of generic since its one of their most popular songs. I'm also obsessed with Sick or Sane, Bloody Romance, and Choke on This.
last emo band i'll ramble about is The Used !!!! i've been listening to them since i was 8 i think??? and seeing them live was super insanely impactful for me. My favorite songs are I'm a Fake and A Song To Stifle Imperial Progression (A Work In Progress).
another band i love is From Ashes To New !! I think they actually qualify as nu metal and not metalcore but theyre commonly grouped with metalcore bands and play with them sometimes !! i saw them twice in 2024 ^^ !!! Monster In Me is one of my all time favorites but im also really fond of SideFX.
UMMM! the last one i'll talk about is Nothing More !! again not a metalcore band i think theyre prog technically? but wtv !! i've been listening to them for liiike 7 years i think? and i met them twice this year !!! i have a guitar pick my uncle caught me at their last show ^w^ !!!!! theyve also signed 2 pieces of my art and they have a painting of mine that i gave them. Jenny, House On Sand, and Valhalla are a few of my favorites !!!!
There's a few other bands I'm really obsessed with like I Prevail, Chiodos, The Venetia Fair, Hawthorne Heights (i've met them!!), Hanabie, Highly Suspect and Set it Off!!!!
TL;DR I LIKE A LOT OF BANDS!!!!!!!!
oh my gosh sorry for the huge long ramble i just really like music .... tysm anon i needed this >w< !!!!!

6, 12, 17 for AO3 wrapped?
6. Favorite title you used
I really really love "Time Is Out Of Joint"! The full version of the line (“The time is out of joint. O cursèd spite/ That ever I was born to set it right!”) is actually one I've associated with time travel for a long time due to a joke Jasper Fforde made in one of the Thursday Next books, so it felt like a really good fit here. All the titles (main one and chapter titles) for that fic are Hamlet quotes, both because I joke about Hell Valley being the Hamlet timeline and because Hamlet is so effective at conveying this atmosphere of stifling despair which is very similar to the attitudes the characters in the fic are surrounded by (until they finally manage to break free from the tragedy due to the power of time travel).
12. How many WIP’s do you have in your docs for next year?
Normal amount. Uhhhh . . . of things that I'm actively working on we've got:
Time Is Out Of Joint (fully drafted, just fighting me in edits)
The Jennifer longfic
Brassica Heresy
The ekurei acefic (MAYBE this will be easier to finish now that it's no longer my first-ever sex scene? but also maybe not)
In Case Of Emergency
my one Imperial Radch oneshot (current title "My existence continues in music without end over the mourning of the land" because Radchaai 'translations' of song lyrics make me laugh super hard)
Also, things that aren't really works in progress because I have not actually made any progress on them but are still vibes-wise in this category:
The Young Clara fic
Spiritual Union, a plotty queerplatonic ekurei fic
a Reigen and Shinra friendship fic dealing with the aftermath of manga!Mogami and Separation arcs
17. Your favorite character to write this year?
Lorraine!!! It was fun to write a longer fic set in a timeline we only get a brief glimpse of in canon, and also I love letting women be sharp and angry and deeply unhinged.

Hi taylor @theusedselftitled logging in for the used listening propaganda. My absolute favorite forever is the canyon but that's actually an awful place to start listening so here are your choices:
Their self titled album is definitely their second best after the canyon and I recommend it if you want some classic 2000s post-hardcore. Great screams 10/10. It's kind of a magical album because it's just so perfect. (Song recs: maybe memories, a box full of sharp objects, blue and yellow, the entire album tbh)
In love and death is good if you want to hear them get a little more silly with it. The same 2000s post-hardcore but the melodic poppy moments are even catchier and the heavy moments are even heavier. (Song recs: I caught fire, all that I've got, sound effects and overdramatics)
Lies for the liars has a weird vibe. I could say a lot about that but I won't for the sake of your inbox. Less screamy and heavy, they started embracing the I caught fire side of their songwriting over the sound effects and overdramatics side. Great beginner album if you're looking for something easy and memorable. (Song recs: the bird and the worm, hospital, paralyzed)
Shallow believer is a b-side comp album and I wouldn't recommend it as a starting place but it has some bangers. Not a lot to say since it's not a proper full album but it's special to me so I wanted to mention it. (Song recs: slit your own throat, choke me, the back of your mouth)
Artwork is described as "gross pop" by the band. It's not actually pop but I think that's a great description. Generally a fucked up vibe in the best way. You might be able to guess that they continue with the more pop rock side of their songwriting. I can't describe this album well other than that it's compelling. (Song recs: blood on my hands(!!), kissing you goodbye, come undone, men are all the same)
Don't listen to vulnerable as a starting album. sorry vulnerable but it's not that good </3
Imaginary enemy is their "political album" and I wouldn't recommend it to start but I do have a few song recs to listen to on their own (revolution, a song to stifle imperial progression(!!!!!!), imaginary enemy)
Don't listen to the canyon to start you gotta ease into it
Heartwork is fantastic if you want to hear them get more experimental with their sound. I'd recommend Not listening to the deluxe version at first because even though I really like some of the bonus tracks it fucks with the original flow of the album just adding them on at the end. (Song recs: paradise lost, bloody nose, cathedral bell, actually just every damn song except for the aptly titled "Wow, I Hate This Song." Bonus track recs: blood meridian, playing the victim, operation me)
We arrive at toxic positivity and find the used in their natural habitat of catchy vocals with some great riffs. Bert lives in a society and needs everyone to know. My take is that I love it because it's fun to listen to but the lyrics suck ass 😭 this guy said "copium" in the very first song. Definitely listen a few times even if you think you don't like it because it grows on you. It's a short album so listening a couple times won't take forever. (Song recs: the worst I've ever been, numb, cherry)
I'd recommend choosing whatever album intrigues you the most and listening to the entire thing or listening to the individual song recs from shallow believer & imaginary enemy. This isn't my best describing work because I am half asleep but whatever fuck it we ball. I encourage you to message me about your the used listening because I want to know what you think and I can provide more tailored recs once I know a little of what you like the most from their music. Have fun ‼️💃
TARGET AUDIENCE REACHED. TYSM im saving all of the recs im getting into one big document by the time i get thru all of them i think ill have listened to all their discography just about. ill definitely update you as i go!!!!
#i lobve rambling about the music im listening to be prepared to wake up to a 10 page essay in yr messages#asks
