Happy June!
To celebrate the fact that we are now officially one month away from the start of AU Roulette, have a post detailing the 36 AUs included in this year's challenge -- or don't, if you'd rather be surprised.
This year's AUs have been curated to be intentionally broad, in the hopes that they will encourage unique takes on each prompt and the creativity of the authors participating. You are welcome to write anything that falls under the umbrella of your assigned AUs, whether it's an original universe, a fusion inspired by another fandom, or something else entirely.
(What's AU Roulette, some of you might be asking? An explanation can be found here, along with the link to sign-up!)
Without further ado -- the AU list, under a cut:
Roleswap - Maybe you want to switch two characters' places, do a class-swap for a D&D fandom, try your hand at an age-swap fic, or you have another idea.
Superhero -- Invent an original universe or do a fusion with one of the many popular big-screen superhero stories. Play it straight and give your favorite characters cool powers, or try a deconstruction of the genre. With great AUs comes great responsibility
Gothic Horror -- Castles. Ghosts. Vampires. Drama. Love that conquers Death. Take your inspiration from classic literature or a newer entry in the genre, like The Locked Tomb books. But be sure to make things spooky.
Post-Apocalypse -- Will the world end in fire or in ice? Or maybe economic collapse, war, zombies, or one of many other options? You write what happens next!
Fairy-Tale -- Pick a classic tale from the Grimms, Hans Christian Andersen, Asbjørnsen & Moe, Charles Perrault, or another favorite author to inspire your AU, try out a more modern re-telling, or use fairy-tale elements to craft your own story.
High Seas -- Including but not limited to Pirate AUs and other Age of Sail adventures. Try out something more historical, or throw in as many fantasy elements as you'd like -- or a bit of both.
Time Travel -- For fixing mistakes, making things worse, or time loops. Or maybe you want to write a fusion inspired by a piece of popular time travel media, like Doctor Who.
Western -- Another AU where writers are free to do their history research or to lean into more outlandish genre conventions. Cowboys, cowgirls, and cowpokes all welcome, of course.
Mythology -- Write a story inspired by your favorite myths and legends, from a whole host of different cultures. Or maybe you'd like to try your hand at writing some epic poetry?
Coffee Shop -- A classic everyone knows and has strong feelings about. Play it straight or add a twist, whichever suits your fancy! After all, no one said where the coffee shop has to be...
College/Academia -- Are the characters in your AU students? Professors? Weary adjuncts? Throwing hands at a conference? Some mix of the above?
Theater -- Put those characters on Broadway or cast them in a disaster of a community theater production. Or a school play! All that really matters is the show must go on.
Ghost/Cryptid Hunters -- Maybe you want to write a story starring the next Scooby-Doo crew, or maybe there really is something strange in the neighborhood. Or maybe it'll never be clear what really happened -- it's your choice!
Secret Agent -- Code words, code names, you name it. Write a story about spies, cryptographers, or any other clandestine operators. Take inspiration from history or from James Bond. Just don't spill your secrets too soon.
Detective -- Whether you're writing the world's greatest detective or someone who just can't get a clue, play up the mystery! Use a classic locale like 221B Baker Street or invent your own.
Cyberpunk -- Time to write cyborg identity crises and fight the machine (literally)! Take inspiration from classic media like Neuromancer or Blade Runner or make a totally new cyberpunk universe of your own creation.
High Fantasy -- Elves and dwarves and gnomes, oh my! This AU could encompass everything from Middle Earth to D&D AUs to your favorite high fantasy books you read over and over as a kid. Or maybe you have your own spell to weave.
Band/Musicians -- Whether you decide to make the characters in your AU famous pop stars, part of an orchestra, students at a conservatory, jamming together in their garage, or otherwise musically-inclined, have fun with it!
Reporter/Journalist -- For everything from local anchors and newspaper staff to big-league investigative reporters. Write characters who'll do anything to get a scoop or with a strong sense of justice -- it's your call!
Cosmic Horror -- You don't have to love Lovecraft to get creative with this AU. Make characters comprehend the incomprehensible, send them messages from beyond the stars, and get a little creepy.
Heist -- Will you write a story about master thieves? Vigilantes righting some wrong? What's being stolen and why? Try a Leverage AU or a caper of your own making.
Space Opera -- The genre encompassing works like The Expanse, Imperial Radch, Mass Effect, and Star Wars, brimming with galactic empires, alien species, and chivalric adventures. Write a fusion set in the universe of your favorite work in the genre, or invent a new one!
Sports/Athletics -- Pick a sport, any sport -- whether a team game like hockey, an individual one like archery, a paired one like figure skating, or something a little unconventional, like roller derby or HEMA. Then it's ready, set, write!
Historical Era -- An AU type absolutely bursting with potential, from medieval romances to 1920s Prohibition AUs, to ones inspired by historical fiction like Les Miserables. Whatever era of history strikes your fancy, you can write it.
Road Trip -- Pack your favorite characters in a car and don't forget the snacks. Or maybe the spaceship, or something else if you're feeling adventurous. Where are they headed and why? Only you know the answer!
Space Exploration -- Whether you want to write modern-day astronauts, a futuristic Star Trek AU, or something inspired by the space race, the sky isn't even the limit with this AU.
Urban Fantasy -- For all your modern-with-magic settings. Write an AU inspired by something like Teen Wolf, Artemis Fowl, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, or much of Neil Gaiman's oeuvre, or invent your own world where witches and websites coexist.
Museum/Archives -- Have the characters in your AU working in the exhibits or behind the scenes, down in the collections or even as archaeologists or paleontologists. What secrets are waiting to be unearthed there?
Hospital -- A surprisingly flexible AU option -- are the characters working there, or the victims of some unfortunate accident? Or maybe it's a bit of both. Take it wherever you feel like.
Camping/Wilderness Survival -- Could be anything from a fun summer camp or camping trip to a nightmare survival scenario. Write everyone having s'mores around the campfire or something inspired by media like Yellowjackets, where they might be having... something else.
Steampunk -- A fantastic opportunity to get creative with your worldbuilding. Try your hand at some alternate history, or invent a world of airships and other flying machines of your very own.
Shapeshifter -- Can the characters in this AU turn into anything they want? Or maybe they're more limited, like selkies -- even unable to control their shapeshifting at all (can I get an "awoo" from the werewolf fans?)
Classic Literature -- An AU somewhat more dependent on fusion ideas, but still very flexible! Pick a favorite classic book or play and let it inspire your writing!
Dystopian -- Create your own awful society or let a favorite piece of media guide you, like writing a Hunger Games AU. Will the characters break the cycle, or end up trapped in it?
Renaissance Faire -- A recipe for chaos. Write a bunch or faire-goers or have the characters in your AU working at the faire! Adventures await.
Scientist/Mad Science -- Write characters as normal biologists, physicists, and chemists, the next Frankenstein, or as hapless experiments themselves!

12. Hi! I was just wondering if you have any good, longer fluff pieces. They can have plot, but in general everyone is happy and no one gets hurt (unless it’s jgs). I know canon makes it a bit more difficult, but if you have any recs, that would be great! I’m just looking for fluff, humor, and plot

thank you for the ask, anon! // from these asks
📚 Is there a fanfic or fanfic writer you recommend?
god, so many! i will admit that like. i do not read as much fanfic as i write it, especially these days, so my list of recommendations by no means captures every single amazing fanfic writer / fanfic there is out there in whatever fandom i'm about to list, but some fics that have been living rent-free in my brains these days have been:
gift horse dentistry by RC_McLacklan (beyond evil: hilarious writing, i literally hadn't laughed so hard at a fic in a really, really long time)
if every house is haunted by pale_and_tragic (beyond evil: the way i literally started crying like. twice. it also awakened something in me i think, because i think i started crying while writing out my comment for the author lmao)
all is well (in this blighted world) by fadeinwinter (beyond evil: ie. perhaps one of the most zombie apocalypse fics ever in that god god god god god god god finding love again at the end of the world jesus christ)
to the stars by merryofsoul (beyond evil: the star trek and beyond evil crossover that i think might have honestly been the fic that re-triggered my love for star trek because. jesus christ the way i am obsessed with science officer han joo won grouching about dong sik even on a spaceship. and also, typical star trek shenanigans but with the beyond evil crew is just. so fun. put those men in situations! put those men in situations that originated from perhaps one of the gayest franchises of all time!)
such a wonderful life by @b1uetrees (beyond evil: god can you see a pattern. i swear i read other fics. but like. beyond evil but now add in a dash of it's a wonderful life magic. this one moved me a lot just because maybe i love dong sik and i love dong sik being told his life is significant or whatever!!!)
i remember who i am when i'm with you by @electricalkittens (beyond evil: nur i am so sorry i haven't commented yet i read it and then said that i was gonna comment and then haven't done it but i swear i'm gonna leave a comment so u know the full scope of my appreciation for this fic but like anyways, yet another one of my faves right now because ohhh i'm always a sucker for joo won finding his way back to dong sik and dong sik wanting joo won to stay but none of them know how to quite communicate that yet and anyways!!! so normal)
pas de deux by @fireinmywoods, although you would need to read palimpest first, which is perhaps one of the most. genius fics that i have ever read. i mean it. (star trek, aos: just like. i dunno! i'm sort of obsessed with this fic especially, just because i think it! unlocks! something insane in me!)
rhapsody in blue by @kckenobi (star wars: the clone wars: i am. only a few chapters in this fic but i would be remiss if i didn't mention this one because a) i will always adore kasey's writing and find a way to mention her writing, even if i don't actively read as much star wars stories these days, and b) it's literally been so long since i've read an au where it's very clear that someone is so passionate about the exact setting they're writing about, and it's just something i thoroughly enjoying seeing in any story, and c) i mean? suspense + family trauma? sign me up.
i could. honestly go on forever about fic writers and fics that i would recommend, but. for the sake of length + also time, i'll leave this list here! and my bookmarks page is actually. substantial these days, so anything that i've bookmarked is almost always an indication that i recommend it.

You wanted some WIP questions – here we go 😁
5, 8, 10, 28, 43
Oooh yeah, here we go, Happy to answers those 😊
5. How many wips do you have? What fandoms/pairings are they for?
I really honestly can't put a number on it. There is an app called Simplenote I use. No one should actually look into my account. It's a complete mess and full of idea and story notes but working fine for me. There are countless (mostly Tatort) notes on it. And lets not forget the numerous Word files on my laptop that I want to edit to make stories out of it 😄. So even when "Last Chance" will be finished at one point I do have one or another story idea to share and some clear ideas in mind 😊.
Fandoms is mainly Tatort Hamburg with my favourite character Julia Grosz and the perfect pairing Julia Grosz & Tine Geissler. I got a few others as well for CSI, Sofia Curtis & an OC character, that possibly won't get shared since I don't think anyone would be interested.
8. Post an out-of-context spoiler from a wip.
A undercover operation gone wrong. A kidnapped colleague who is injured.
And right in the middle Julia Grosz, Tine Geissler and Thorsten Falke.
If the life of the person you love is at stake, how far would you go?
10. Do you work on multiple wips or stick to one fic at a time?
Normally I try to stick to one story. BUT that head of mine that always comes up with new ideas makes that really hard. So it can happen that I'm busy with one story, another idea hits, and I have to write down those ideas to get them out of my head that possibly don't fit in with the other story so I decide to create a new one and continue with the original one afterwards.
Already happened with "Happiness", "On My Own" and "Happy Halloween" while writing "Last Chance" 🙈.
28. What area of writing do you want to improve in?
Really tough question. Trying to not re-write stuff I mentioned in earlier chapters/works too much and detailed and getting a better story flow maybe, not become lost in too many details. Of course though I want my stories to at least give the readers a nice experience were they can forget their daily routine or sorrows for a little while and maybe give them a smile. But in the end, I'm not a professional author and it's just a hobby that I don't need to be ultra perfect in 🙈. (Would probably be interesting to get the readers perspectives on that 😊.)
43. Is there a trope or idea that you’d really like to write but haven’t yet?
I'm not sure if I get the meaning of "trope" correctly but as far as I can think none really.
Ideas I have so much and a lot more running around in my head, but nothing specific. Not like "I want to write (for example) a zombie apocalypse AU, how do I write it??", it's more like "Ideas hit me, do they fit in my current story or could I create a new story out of it??".
I would like to come up with a story for Julia Grosz at some point about her first love and her possible current (hopefully) last love (which in my mind will always be Tine Geissler 😅❤️🙈) and call it "Summer Moved On" just because I find it so fitting. And than dive into Julias thoughts about Tine and Ela maybe, like back then and now. Simething in that direction, don't know yet, but didn't really think about it too much yet. In the episode "Schattenleben" and in all interviews its always mentioned Julia had that one summer with Ela, her first love. And I just find that title (a song by A-ha) so fitting. Or someone else comes up with something and I lend the title or a co-writing 😅, would be all fine for me as well 🙂.
There is another idea I got for Tatort Hamburg as well but in which Julia will get an (OC) new partner and I'm not sure if I will ever post them because we just love Falke and their friendship too much. He would still be around as Julias closest friend of course. Would be interesting to know if people would be interested in that. We will see.
And I'm planning on starting like a series of stories that concentrate on the single Tatort Hamburg episodes with Julia Grosz but with a very specific change: What if Tine Geisssler had never left and was still around? 😊
(If someone is interested for a snippet choose question number 7 😉😅🙈 ... )
Once again, that was a lot and lots of fun 🥰 Thank you very much for the questions @except4bunnies 😘 I enjoy our exchange very much 😊.
Sorry for the long replies to some questions ... 🙈

Writer’s Workshop: How To End Your Story
How To End Your Story
Guest Poster: Flawedamythyst
We’re in the final furlong before the deadline for the first draft now, so it feels like a good time to talk about endings, and how to bring your story together to create a satisfactory one.
Have a read and then head over to the Discord Server where we have a channel for you to take part in a discussion based on the post, with chances to share your own ideas too.
How To End Your Story
There are traditionally six types of endings for a story:
Resolved ending - one with no lingering questions or loose ends. (Most murder mysteries and romances fall into this category.)
Unresolved ending - the kind of ending that leaves the reader with more questions than answers. (Usually for books that are part of a series. A lot of the HP books have endings like this.)
Expanded ending - expands the world of the story beyond the events of the narrative itself, with a time jump forward or a change in PoV.
Unexpected ending - a twist ending that the reader doesn’t see coming, but that should seem inevitable in hindsight.
Ambiguous ending - one that’s open to interpretation. Unlike an unresolved one, it leaves things to be interpreted by the reader so they have to decide themselves how it goes.
Tied ending - that brings the story full circle, and ends exactly where it began. Often the case for ‘Hero’s Journey’ type stories, where the hero ends up back home at the end.
You can read more about them here: https://boords.com/storytelling/how-to-end-a-story or here: https://www.masterclass.com/articles/ways-to-end-your-story but also in multiple other articles online just by Googling ‘Six Ways To End A Story’.
But, of course, they don’t really tell you how to work out which one your story needs, or how to write one of them without falling into any of the traps that ends with an unsatisfying ending.
Motivation
Of course, often the hardest bit with an ending is actually getting there. Losing motivation is so easy, especially when you’re writing something super-long. I know lots of people get motivation by posting as they go and using comments/kudos as a spur, or even just by talking about it on Tumblr or other places and letting other people’s excitement buoy them up, but a Bang event like WHOB doesn’t allow for that.
I’m going to talk a bit about ways to motivate yourself when you’re having to keep things secret from all but a handful of people, but bear in mind that this is something that really is very individual. Everyone writes for different reasons, and so everyone’s path to staying motivated is different.
For me, I think it comes down to focusing on why am I writing this story to start with? Any time I feel myself flagging, I think back to that reason and re-capture the original feeling I had about it. Often there’s a couple of different reasons.
For example, when I was writing Look What The Cat Dragged In, my motivations when I wrote the first line were:
I want all of fandom to share with me the image of the Winter Soldier waking Clint up to threaten him while gently cradling a kitten in his hands, and
I was writing it as a present for @kangofu-cb.
So, if I flagged at all, I was able to either reread that moment with Bucky holding the kitten and think ‘wow, I really do thing people will enjoy this mental image’, or I was able to think ‘I want my friend to have a nice thing’, and that helped me drive on and push through.
A lot of my personal motivations come down to ‘I want to share this scene/witty one-liner/visual of Clint pole dancing while dressed as Captain America with people’, so often just rereading what I’ve already done is really motivating for me, plus it also gives me the chance to see just how much I’ve already done, and what I would be dooming to be unfinished if I just walked away without pushing through.
You might well have different motivations though, which are equally valid. Maybe you started a fic for this event because you wanted to get a shiny badge, or to do something that your friends were doing, or you wanted to prove to yourself that you could write something longer than usual or outside of your usual wheelhouse. It may feel harder now than it did when you had that first idea, but that doesn’t change why you wanted to do it, and it’s actually easier now than it was when you started, because you’ve already done some of it.
And, if none of those motivations work for you, there’s always spite. ‘Oh, my brain gremlins think I can’t finish this? Fuck those guys, I’m going to prove those assholes so very, very wrong’ is completely how I powered through to finish my first ever novel-length fic, a million years and several fandoms ago.
Resolution vs Ending
So, let’s move on to the ending itself.
There are two parts to writing an ending: there’s the plot resolution and how that all gets tied up, and there’s the actual ending of the fic - the last scene, and the last place the reader sees the characters.
Sometimes the resolution happens only at the very end of a story and so those are the same thing, but I tend to think that makes things feel a bit abrupt. Especially for fics, which tend to be more character-driven than mainstream media and so need a wind down on how the characters react to the end of the plot for the reader. (This isn’t always true, of course, some plots do tie up neatly in the final scene. Every story is different and you’re the person best placed to judge what’s needed in your fic.)
So when you’re thinking about the ending, think about both parts. ‘How does this plot resolve itself?’ and ‘where do I want to leave these characters in the readers’ mind’s eye?’
Plotting a Story Resolution
You may well have already got a resolution worked out as part of your planning, but what if that ending doesn’t seem to fit any more, or you realise just as you get to it that you forgot to think about an ending at all and have no idea where to go?
First of all, don’t panic! If the rest of the story is there, you’ll be able to pull together the strands to create the best ending. Trust the bones of your story.
When I’m facing a blank page and no real idea of how I’m getting from the Depths of Despair moment to the happy ending, the first thing I do is reread the whole story in case that sparks a fantastic, fully-formed idea to appear on how to tie it all up. Mostly that doesn’t work, which is always disappointing, but it’s still a good place to start, because you have the whole run of the fic fresh in your head to plan from.
The next thing I do is make a list of all the things that I know definitely need to happen for the plot to be done. These don’t need to be in any particular order at this point and they don’t need to link up, you just need a list of what needs to go into the framework, however minor. ‘Clint wears Bucky’s hoodie and Bucky is smitten’ is a totally valid plot point to include, or even ‘include mention of recurring joke about muffins’. If you know something needs to be resolved but you don’t know how yet, just putting ‘resolve plot point with badgers’ is fine. Hopefully once you’ve started thinking through all the different bits, you’ll work out what’s going to happen to the badgers, and it’ll make sure you know it needs to be included somewhere.
If you have a beta/cheer reader who can help, it’s also super helpful to ask them what they would expect from the ending based on what they’ve read so far, or what elements from earlier in the story they think will be coming back/will turn out to be foreshadowing. Sometimes you’ll find you’ve written the clues to your ending into the earlier bits without really noticing, and you can throw them down on the list to be included as well.
Once you have everything you know needs to be included, you can shift them around into a rough order you think they need to go in, and start filling in the gaps. For example, if ‘Clint gets injured’ is there, you can add in ‘Bucky tends to his wounds’ as the obvious next step and maybe that would be a good time to throw in a muffin joke, and then Clint might need to borrow a hoodie if his shirt has blood on it, so you can tick those bits off as well.
It gets easier to see where the gaps are once you have it written out, even if it’s only things that you already knew would need to happen. Having it down in black and white helps your brain to move pieces around like a jigsaw puzzle, and start extrapolating on what comes in the gaps between.
Make The Ending Fit The Story
Think about what kind of story it’s been so far, and make sure that the ending you come up with fits in with it.
You’ll know the general feeling that you wanted for the fic when you started writing, so that will give you a solid idea on how the ending needs to go. (Often for me this feeling is ‘schmoopy and loved up’, because I’m a softie. A lot of what I’m doing when I’m writing a fic is just clearing out of the way any obstacles that are going to get in the way of my characters being schmoopy and loved up. When there’s nothing left in the way, that’s when I know it’s the end of the story.)
You also need to keep the tone and pacing of your fic the same, and make sure that your ending matches up so it all feels like it fits together. This includes keeping the pace the same as it had been, no matter how tempting it is to rush through so you can get the thing finished already, or slow right down so you can add in a few thousand more words.
Along with sticking to the tone you’ve set for the fic, try not to genre-shift - if you’ve written an action-packed zombie apocalypse fic, resolving the plot with domestic schmoop isn’t a great idea. The reader is invested in the style of story that you’ve written so far, so pulling the rug out on them will only give them whiplash, a vague sense of dissatisfaction or a persistent nagging feeling that zombies are about to attack.
Unless you’ve written a domestic schmoop zombie AU of course, in which case I would read the hell out of it. ‘Curtain!fic but sometimes the undead interrupt’ sounds like a lot of fun.
And finally, make sure you maintain your characterisation. If the ending you want involves your character doing something wildly out-of-character, then that’s not the right ending. (I like to call this an Endgame!Steve ending. No, I’m not over that.) Even if your audience is invested in your story enough to overlook the incongruence, they will be having to overlook it rather than feeling fully invested in the journey you’ve created.
Chekov’s Gun
The most satisfying endings are the ones that tie up most, if not all, of the loose ends, and provide an emotional pay-off equivalent to the build-up. If you’ve been talking about something big that might or might not happen, and then it doesn’t, it’s narratively frustrating. In the same way, if you drop something big in that doesn’t really fit with what went before, it’s going to make the story feel unbalanced.
Obviously that doesn’t mean you can’t have a surprise or twist ending but even if the reader is surprised by something happening, they still want to feel like they’re reading the same story. They need to look back with hindsight of knowing the twist and see how it fits in, and not how it stands out.
A good rule to follow is the Chekov’s Gun rule: If there’s a gun on the table in the first act, someone needs to shoot it in the second act. If you’ve been teasing something, make sure the pay-off is there.
And, of course, if someone’s going to be firing a gun at the end, go back and make sure it gets mentioned earlier in the story. It doesn’t need to be a heavy-handed anvil, but if you can drop in casual hints about guns earlier in the story, the whole thing feels more cohesive and thought out. No one needs to know that you only put those hints in after you’d finished the whole thing.
Loose Ends
Something I always like to do when I’m plotting exactly how the ending is going to go, is to go back through the whole fic and make a list of anything that feels like it could be a loose end if it didn’t get resolved. (If I’m having a problem working out my ending, often this happens at the same time as writing down all my ending plot points, as I described above.)
Some of those are obvious, like ‘Bucky and Clint need to kiss’, but some are less so. Did Clint think about how much he just wants to be done with all the drama so he can snuggle with his dog? Maybe throw in some Lucky cuddles somewhere in the finale so he gets the emotional pay-off. Has Bucky mentioned really want to punch a bad guy in particular in the face? Give him a chance to smack that asshole around a bit. Has there been a minor relationship drama along the way, like someone leaving their socks lying around? Have them either make a point of putting them away, or the other person just rolling their eyes and accepting it as a part of being with them.
It’s also important to think about where your secondary characters are going to end up, and if it feels like they’ve had an arc that needs resolving. Has there been another pairing with a bit of screen time or some background drama? Give them a chance to make out/make up. Has the bad guy done something that affected one of the other Avengers? Let them have a slice of revenge along the way.
For example, in my plan for Be All You Can Be, one of the original characters I introduced as other soldiers doing Basic Training, Havelka, didn’t turn up again after he’d been kicked back a level to another training unit. When I reread that, it became clear that he needed to prove himself somehow or his arc would be a depressing downward slope partially instigated by Clint and Bucky, so I brought him back at the end to do some First Aid and gave him a line or two to point to how his future was going to go, so the reader knew he was going to be okay.
You don’t have to completely resolve everything of course, and sometimes it is nice to leave a couple of things up to the reader’s imagination, but it’s nice for the reader if there’s a sense of things being tied up in a little bow.
Ending
So, you’ve resolved your plot, how are you going to handle the actual final ending?
Depending on how your story has gone, you might not need much after the resolution, or you may need several epilogue-y type scenes just to make sure everything is wrapped up.
Take a moment to think about what feeling you want the reader to take away from the fic. If it’s a romance, do you want to end with a warm fuzz of ‘aw cute’? If it’s been an angsty dig down into Clint or Bucky’s mental health issues, do you want a sense of optimism or catharsis? If there’s been a lot of action and drama, do you want a bit of peace and quiet for your characters to signal it’s all over with?
The best way to end any story is with a sense of hope, even if you’ve not gone for a completely happy ending, or have left yourself open for a sequel with some unresolved plot points. You want the reader to feel at least in some way uplifted. After all, regardless of whatever else has gone before, that’s the emotion they’ll have when they get faced with the Kudos button and the Comment box, so you need them in a good mood, right?
When you know what kind of feeling you want your ending to have, that will give you a major clue as to what the characters should be doing in the final scene.
One thing that can work well is bringing back something from the first scene or two and twisting it to be part of the ending. For example, at the beginning of Be All You Can Be Clint uses the song Make A Man Out Of You from Mulan as a way to torture Bucky, and then at the end, they watch the movie together while snuggling.
You do have to be careful not to be too heavy handed with that, and it doesn’t work in every fic, but I do like the feeling of ‘things coming full circle’ that you can get from doing it.
Afterglow vs. Too Much Ending
I always think that good stories come with a certain amount of ‘afterglow’: Just a scene or two to round things out and give a pointer towards the future.
For example, in general, I don’t like stories that end with a first kiss, which is one of several reasons I usually find Hollywood romcoms unsatisfying. It feels like too much of a beginning, and leaves too many questions open about how things are actually going to go for the couple in question. As part of a complete ending, it feels more satisfying to have an ‘epilogue’-y type scene afterwards that will give you a sense of how things went from there, even if it’s just a couple of paragraphs about them planning their first date.
I’m sure we can all think of other times we’ve read or watched something and had a moment of ‘oh, was that it?’ after the last sentence/when the credits rolled. Abrupt endings without a bit of afterglow can leave the reader blinking a little and wondering where their damn cuddles are.
That said, you also don’t want to go too far in the opposite direction. If the plot is over, there’s no need to keep going with multiple scenes of fluff or porn that doesn’t really add anything. We don’t need to see their whole lives mapped out, and it can get fairly dull once the tension of the plot is over. Ask yourself if the three chapters of them having sex on every flat surface in their apartment is actually necessary, or if some of them can be cut and used as one-shot sequel/missing scene fics.
In general if it’s not adding to either the narrative or emotional arcs, try to cap it at a scene or two. Just enough to feel like you’ve had a bit of post-climactic afterglow, but not so much that it’s starting to drag.
In Conclusion…
Ending a fic is, in so many ways, the most satisfying part of writing. You got right the way through your plot to the end! You did all the writing! Your characters made it through to their happy/sad/ambiguous endings! You deserve all the gold stars!
You just want your reader to feel the same way, by making sure the ending fits with what came before, ties up all the ends that need tying up, and leaves them with a deep glow of whatever feeling you want the overall story to convey.
And then you just need to do the editing, but that’s a workshop for another day...

Epidemic: Chapter One
The apocalypse was the last thing anyone had been expecting. No one was prepared. Governments all over the globe were in extreme panic as a mysterious virus had swept throughout all major cities. It started out with people simply being sick. Then people began to drop like flies. Reanimating into bloodthirsty creatures soon after.
A day after the apocalypse was when the survivor groups started. People looking for food, shelter, weapons, and water, basically all the things needed for survival in this new world. Shawn Flynn and Grant Cohen were originally part of one group. But a sudden zombie attack had caused multiple members of the group to seperate, including the two men. Sadly for them. Things were only going to get worse from here.
Hey guys.. I’m sorry I took so long to write the first chapter for the story I’m making for my new Spinoff AU. The BATIM Saudade Apocalypse AU. I had really horrible writer’s block for so long. I’m also sorry if this story isn’t worth the wait.. if you guys don’t like it I promise I’ll delete it. I don’t want to bother anyone. Maybe I’ll try re-writing this some time if writer’s block goes alway.
Anyway. I hope you guys like this story. It’s okay if you don’t. I know it’s not very good.. I’ll try harder next time. I’m sorry if I’ve disappointed anyone. I’ll try my best to fix any problems I find in it later..
————
[[MORE]]
It truly frightening to stumble upon those creatures. The infected, lumbering around like they’re puppets on strings. Bleeding faces and blood-stained teeth. Dark veins spreading all over their bodies, and eyes glowing with a yellow haze. He knew that they used to be people only a day before.. but there was nothing human in them now.
They traveled around in groups. Sometimes growing so big in numbers that survivors would refer to the dead as ‘hordes.’ Searching for people to infect. Eating never seemed enough for those monsters. Ripping into one body and then lunging for the next. Going for anything that moved, as long as it wasn’t another zombie.
Because of an oncoming horde, Shawn had briefly become separated from Grant. Naturally he was absolutely terrified. The kid was a ticking time-bomb of Anxiety. When the outbreak started the day before, he could barely get him to move. Grant was almost paralyzed in fear. If Shawn hadn’t found him in time he probably would’ve been eaten. How was the boy supposed to handle being in a zombie-infested city without anyone to protect him?!
Feeling like a complete idiot for having this happen in the first place, Shawn swore under his breath. Pulling out a box of ammunition from his backpack, and steadily re-loading his firearm. Hearing it click into place. He then proceeded to run out of the alley he was hiding in, like a maniac. Completely disregarding the safety rules put in place by most survivor groups.
Rule Number One: Always check if an area is clear.
“Grant?! Grant, where are you buddy?!” Shawn called out into the surprisingly empty street, save for broken down cars and burning debris. For a second, everything seemed fine. Until he heard a choked gurgling from behind a pile of rubble. Then Shawn tensed up. Knowing what was coming. Mentally scolding himself over his recklessness.
A middle-aged man appeared. Wearing a black suit, white shirt and blue tie. Clothes that probably were once spotless and clean were now covered in blood and dirt. A single bite-mark rested on his neck, oozing with foul black liquid. The very same substance that was leaking from the man’s eyes and mouth. It staggered forward on unsteady legs. Slowly it stumbled towards Shawn.
Rule Number 2: Never underestimate their speed.
Suddenly the zombified man snarled, breaking into a sprint and then a quick lunge. Just narrowly missing Shawn who had dodged, and slamming into a brick wall. Knowing the enemy’s weakness was crucial in the new world. Luckily Shawn had already figured a few of them out.
“Heh. That was a close one. Nearly got me.” Shawn laughed. The zombie was now lying on the ground. Stunned from the impact of its face accidentally smashing into a wall. Groaning weakly and trying poorly to get back up.
“Welp, sorry buddy. Looks like I’ve got to put you out of your misery.” The man said, before firing a bullet through the corpse’s skull. Splattering its blood all over the side-walk. Silently congratulating himself, Shawn took off running before any more of those creatures showed up. They tended to be attracted to loud noises and the blast of a shotgun was certainly going to be one of those sounds.
‘Gotta get inside somewhere. Grant has to be in one of these buildings..’ He thought to himself. Deciding to go to the one closest to where the two friends had been separated. Hopefully the boy chose this building as well. If not, then Shawn would be back to square one (desperately running down streets searching for him)
————
Rule Number Three: Find Shelter.
Blood dripped down his face from a wound on his forehead. Grant couldn’t remember how he got it. Neither did he remember where he was. It seemed to be some kind of office building, but the place was a mess. Everything was in complete disarray. Various papers piled up on the ground in a heap. One of them being a warning flyer about the outbreak of disease. Grant frowned at the sight of it. Chairs were knocked over, and broken glass scattered the floor. What was most disturbing was the bloody hand-print next to the undisturbed coffee-machine.
Wait. Where was Shawn? He was just with him a moment ago wasn’t he? Grant groaned and held his head in pain. No doubt that he must of sustained some kind of concussion. He knew that he should be worried, but his head felt dizzy. It was hard to think things through.
“S-Shawn? Are you in here?” Grant asked aloud to the empty room. Unsurprisingly there was no answer, but the young man decided to look for him anyway. As he did so, things started to come back to him a bit. The horde coming, the separation, and then crawling into this building for shelter before passing out.
That’s when the panic finally flared up. Realizing the horror of his situation. Shawn wasn’t with him. No Shawn equals no support. No support equals no protection, and no protection equals death! Who was going to help him if the zombies showed up? Grant was too afraid to shoot anything, and up-close combat was out of the question.
“Oh god.. oh god no..” Hands raised to his head, pulling at his hair in desperation. A panic attack was coming on. Starting to jump into hyperventilation. Grant could feel his heart throbbing in his ears. There had to be a way out of here! He needed to find Shawn.
Moans from somewhere close had him petrified. Was it upstairs on a higher floor? Downstairs? Grant didn’t know, and he was terrified to find out. Frantically the young man searched for something to bandage his head with. Worried that the undead might be able to smell blood. Fear rising in his heart when he failed to find anything.
Next he heard a predatory snarl. The noise sounding closer than the previous moans. Although he still couldn’t pin-point the location. Did they know he was here? Were they going to find him?
‘I’m not alone!’ Grant panicked and fumbled for his gun until he realized it was gone. He glanced at everything in the room, and yet there was nothing. Well actually not quite, there was a door that probably lead to some hallway, but that would be risky. There could be infected hiding out there, and the young man didn’t want to end up getting himself clawed to pieces. Hope for escape was seeming bleaker by the second. For now all he could do was stay hidden.
Rule Number Four: Keep Volume to a Minimum.
Grant tried to calm down from his panic attack, it was basically impossible to do that without Shawn.. he needed to be quiet. Too much noise will attract attention. From what he and Shawn had both witnessed several times before, the undead had some sort of heightened sense of hearing. Too loud, and they’ll come rushing to rip whatever made the noise apart.
Fortunately this ability proved to act as a double edged sword. Just as they can hear you, you’ll be able to hear them. Their bizarre blood-chilling shrieks. If he hears them scream he could try and run and hide, but this knowledge didn’t do much to comfort Grant. Only offering him slight hope in the chances of escaping alive. The boy managed to crawl into this building without getting mauled, maybe he still has a chance of escaping.
‘Right.. that’s it. I just need to be quiet..’ The boy thought to himself. He had to think about what Shawn would do if he were in this situation. He’d fight wouldn’t he? Well considering that Shawn was much stronger than him, going room to room shooting zombies wasn’t exactly a good option. That was Shawn’s strong suit. Not Grant’s. Plus he didn’t actually have his gun anymore.. Was he even capable of doing anything right?
“I-I.. I’m useless..” Tears began to stream down Grant’s face as he whispered to himself. He hugged his knees and sobbed. Wishing for everything to go back to normal. Two days ago life was fine. No bizarre sickness. No apocalypse, and no zombies. How did this all happen? It was a question that would probably never be answered.
Maybe he shouldn’t have survived at all.
————
Once again I’m sorry if this story is terrible.. I tried my best. I wish I was better at writing. I actually had much better ideas for this, but I got anxious and nervous and kept having to re-write it.. I’m sorry about that.
Anyway. If you guys don’t like it I’ll delete it. It’s okay. I just want to make you guys happy, and I don’t want this story to bother you guys.

Self rec fic tag
Rules: Post your fics you are most proud of! No limit on how many, just the ones you look at and just feel so pleased that you wrote something so great! Tag as many people as you like to get them to share their own fics! 2k19 is the year we love our own fics babes!
I was tagged by @ihni, so here we go with things that I wrote which bring me joy!
Iron-Hard Man (Tony/JARVIS, Tony/Bruce, MCU) - An AU where Tony chose to design sex toys instead of weapons, and became Iron Man to destroy his father’s legacy of death-dealing. I’d done AUs before, but I really got to dig deep into a “What if?” scenario of a young Tony who’d come to the realization that war is hell at age 14 instead of age 40. I got to make innuendos constantly, and figure out how the Avengers would deal with this version of Tony being brought on the team. Thor turned out to be the voice of wisdom and reason all around, and JARVIS is both an excellent butler/research partner and a sex machine!
Being Human series (Jarvis, Tony, Avengers team, MCU) - I started this “Jarvis gains a human body via Loki and basically is like Tony’s sudden son” from a prompt on avengerkink on LiveJournal. It started with one story, then I wrote more as I got inspired, tracking Jarvis’ journey through new human to fully-fledged member of the Avengers. It began with a drabble and ended with a big bang, and I was able to commission some really lovely artwork for a couple of the stories that captured some really powerful moments.
Cutting Both Ways (Sharp and Blunt) (Bucky, Jane, MCU) - Jane asked Bucky to help her cook, and doesn’t seem to mind that an ex-brainwashed assassin is next to her with a knife. I also wrote this for a prompt, and it garnered a lot of comments, and got unexpectedly deep into the feels.
Way of the Eagle (Steve, Clint, MCU) - Where Steve remembers every martial arts move he sees, even the impossible ones. This one was straight comedy, with Steve earnestly perfecting more and more impossible martial arts movie moves, and Clint increasingly going “WTF?” in stronger and stronger ways. This was funny as hell to write, and I got to do a little bit of research to figure out what impossible maneuver Steve was going to master today...
I Lay Flowers On Your Grave (Original) - This is about zombies and gardens, for a prompt at zombie-fest on LiveJournal. I was intrigued by a few scenes in the movie the Land of the Dead, where zombies were distracted by fireworks. If fireworks could distract them, what about something else colorful, like flowers? I love it because it’s a sort of solarpunk take on the zombie apocalypse.
Iron Age (original characters, Tony, MCU) - Where Iron Man becomes a hereditary title passed down through generations. Also a prompt from avengerkink on LJ. This was one of those few occasions where a fic arrived fully-formed in my brain, complete with title, which is not always, or often, the case. I wrote this in August of 2012, and obviously it doesn’t follow comic-book canon or anything established in the films, but it was a really great way of seeing Tony’s family line down through the ages.
Woman of Steel (Pepper, MCU) - Where Pepper secretly learns to use a suit. I wrote this in July of 2012, with little knowledge of the comic-canon Rescue, from a prompt at avengerkink on LJ. I had a lot of fun thinking up Pepper’s training routine, and JARVIS was being a good partner with her.
Draw You As You Truly Are (Avengers team, MCU) - Where a pair of mutants from Xavier’s School for the Gifted reach into the past to see the meaning behind nude drawings of the Avengers. Also a prompt from avengerkink, this was a whole bundle of feels - Steve draws all of the Avengers in the nude to capture their essence and what they mean to him, stripped of all masks, personas, and glamour. This is probably my personal favorite of all my stories for the feeling of family and love in it.
Every Star in the Sky Knows Your Name (Sherlock BBC/Firefly) - A crossover where Sherlock was a prototype for the “school” where River Tam was rescued from, I started this story as a drabble for a short-form LJ writing competition. Then I expanded it into a big bang, where Sherlock and River could understand each other, and Simon and Watson could become friends and compares notes on the care and feeding of mad geniuses. Because these guys need support, damn it!
Rekindle All Your Dreams (Sylar/Luke, Heroes) - This was one of the more messed-up pairings in a fandom that was chock full of them, a serial killer with daddy issues with a punk with daddy & abandonment issues. I really felt like I got elbow-deep into the guts of what made both of these guys tick as they worked through their issues with attachment, bonding, and worth through treason, rebellion, and sexy knifeplay.
War and Peace In Mind (Warren Peace, Sky High) - I started this in 2006, and while I had written stories (even forms of fanfiction) before, this one was my full-bore dive into modern fandom and fanfiction. For a while I was putting out a 5k chapter every 10 days. (It helped that I was unmarried, my fiance lived out of the country, and I lived alone - lots of solitary writing time.) I got my first account at FanFiction.net to publish the story, though eventually co-posted it on LiveJournal, and put it on Ao3 when I got there many years later. The main story is nearly 335k long. If I add in the (much shorter) sequel and the 10 other ancillary stores in the series, the whole thing tops out at just over 392k. I finished the main story in 2008, and the sequel was published in 2012. It was my first major test of worldbuilding, long-term plotting, and seeing what I could do with a single movie as a jumping-off point. I made OCs, dabbled in songfic, and wrote the whole first story in first person POV, because that was how I worked at the time (the sequel and nearly everything since has been third-person). I have had some of the sweetest possible comments - people have told me they grew up with the story, that they re-read it, that it “ruined their life” as they stayed up to read it over a week. It has gotten recced to other people who have also loved it. And some beautiful, wonderful person immortalized it on the TV Tropes website, thusly achieving for me the pinnacle of tiny Internet fame!

Fanfiction: Why Is It So Popular?
As someone on tumblr, you probably know what fanfiction is and know why it is popular. My AP Literature teacher, however, wasn’t so informed.
My senior year, we were required to write a research paper about a trend. Some people did the rate of divorce, others did the increase of body modification and someone even did the death of Pokemon Go.
Our teacher recommended that we chose a topic that we were familiar with, and my first 2 thoughts were fanfiction and anime. I had already had a friend that had done anime the year the before, so I thought “why not?”
And thus, my senior paper was born:
March , 2018
Fanfiction: Why Is It So Popular?
INTRODUCTION:
Generally, the word “fanfiction” conjures an image of lonely hermits, obsessive fans, or even dangerous flirtation with copyrights, but lately, fanfiction has been given a new face―a face of validity, expression, and even publication. Since January 2012, the amount of fanfiction for just one fandom (a collection of fans supporting a certain medium) has increased an astonishing 1,154% (Pellegrini). Objectively, fanfiction is a fan-made story that contains strong elements of the original work, generally using the same characters, themes, and other various components. For example, there are numerous works based off Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, continuing on the story of Mr. and Mrs. Darcy; in fact, there has been a recent increase of published novels based on Pride and Prejudice of 32% since 2015 (“List of Literary Adaptations of Pride and Prejudice”). Why? Because fans were not satisfied with the original content; they wanted to see more of Elizabeth and Darcy’s relationship or they wondered what the characters would do in a zombie apocalypse or any other variation of “what if?” Fanfiction allows “amateur writers” to express their love for a book, tv show, game, etc., and whether it’s because of the lack of LGBT themes in most published works or the increasing ease of sharing their fiction, fanfiction writers are not likely to stop any time soon (Knorr).
BACKGROUND / HISTORY:
Although it might seem very unbelievable, fanfiction did not just start recently, or a couple decades ago, or in the 70s with that one Star Trek fanfiction. In fact, a good amount of older literature is fanfiction. If fanfiction is being defined as “any work of fiction that borrows major elements of another work of fiction,” then works such as Shakespeare’s Hamlet could technically count as fanfiction; Hamlet was originally an “ancient Scandinavian folk tale . . .[known as] ‘Vita Amlethi’ (‘The Life of Amleth’)” that Shakespeare not only re-wrote as a play, but inserted his own, personal experiences (Clark). The Iliad, The Odyssey, Oedipus Rex were all orally-told, Greek myths that someone decided needed to be written down. The only reason theses works are not recognized as “fanfiction” was because copyright was not as strict in that time and practically did not exist; after all, no one knows for sure who the real Shakespeare was because he did not officially claim his work.
Fanfiction didn’t really become a label until Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes in the 1880s and with the birth of the internet, the famous Star Trek fanfiction. Officially, “the actual term ‘fanfiction’ was coined in 1939” and was used as an insult towards crudely written sci-fi fiction (Reich). In the late 90s and early 00s, rather than the “all-purpose” fanfiction cites today, “fans carved out their own little homes on the burgeoning internet. Star Trek fans here, X-Files fans there, Frasier fans somewhere else” (Hill). Most of those sites, however, have since died and have been replaced with the “all-purpose” ones like fanfiction.net. One of the most infamous modern fanfictions is E.L. James’ Fifty Shades of Grey. Although it is technically a published novel, James has admitted that her novel was simply a Twilight fanfiction that she had written and aftered so that she wouldn’t break the copyright (Morrison). The largest development to the world of fanfiction, however, was the birth of Archiveofourown.org in 2007, a fanfiction website that “promised stronger resistance to legal challenges” to fanfiction writers unlike other, previous websites such as fanfiction.net (Burt). With the creation of this site, older ones have begun to die out just like the fandom-centric ones of the past.
#1 REASON:
Over the years, fanfiction has morphed from a shameful pass time to a socially acceptable medium of expression. Published authors have been, in fact, recommending fanfiction as a positive way to start writing. The author of the Princess Diaries Meg Cabot came out about her fanfiction writing, saying, “I myself used to write Star Wars fan fiction when I was tween. I think writing fanfiction is a good way for new writers to learn to tell a story” (Romano). And many other famous authors have made a contribution to the fanfiction community: Cassandra Clare, author of Mortal Instrument Series; Orson Scott Card, author of Ender’s Game; S. E. Hinton, author of The Outsiders; Neil Gaiman, author of The Sandman Series, and so many others (O’Brien, Kovach).
While visiting a Writing Workshop, the published author hosting it, Pamela Thibodeaux, encouraged me to begin writing and posting fanfiction in order to start a healthy fanbase, so that when I go to get a book published, the transition is much smoother. Writing fanfiction is just as stimulating as writing an original novel. In a CNN article about fanfiction, they explicitly stated that “even if the subject matter is a little blue [writing fanfiction] is a positive form of self-expression,” compelling parents to “encourage writing” (Knorr). In fact, the main difference between the two is that writing fanfiction “takes the pressure of world-building off” which allows the writer to explore their writing style without getting tangled up in creating something from scratch (McQuien). In a way, fanfiction is the box of cake mix in the literature world―it helps amateurs to take the first step of baking without getting too overwhelmed, but in the end, it can taste just as good.
#2 REASON:
As the overall acceptance and validity of fanfiction has increased, fanfiction has found its way into the publishing world, being branded as actual literature. Time-honored novels such as Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice have several published, fan-made additions and recreations of the original tale like Pride and Prejudice II: The Sequel by Victoria Park and Seth Grahame-Smith’s Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which was turned into a filmed phenomena in 2016 (“List of Literary Adaptations of Pride and Prejudice”). Although there have been many literary adaptations of this novel spanning as far back as 1932, there has been a 32% increase of published fanfictions just for this fandom (“List of Literary Adaptations of Pride and Prejudice”).
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle has also witnessed this movement with his iconic Sherlock Holmes series, especially with the popular television series Sherlock, a “modernization” (or modern au [alternate universe] in fanfiction jargon) of the classic cases between Sherlock Holmes and John Watson (“8 unconventional Sherlock Holmes adaptations”). These published fanfictions have been able to keep the trademarked names of their beloved characters, but many novels had to undergo extensive editing to cross the line of “fanfiction” into “literature.”
One of the most famous, or rather infamous, examples of this is how E. L. James’ 50 Shades of Grey was originally a Twilight fanfiction (Morrison). Another, perhaps not as well known, is L. Stoddard Hancock’s Cruel and Beautiful World, which was heavily based off of J. K. Rowling’s beloved Harry Potter; in fact, her novel indulges the ship [romantic pairing] of Hermione and Draco, fondly known as “Dramione” in the Harry Potter fandom (Sarner). While some fanfictions have to undergo a facelift in order to be published, their true identity still remains intact: they are still devoted extensions to the esteemed works of another author.
#3 REASON:
Fanfiction has evolved greatly throughout history, and how to post fanfictions and share them with the world is just getting easier and easier. As mentioned prior, the creation of Archive of Our Own revolutionized the world of fanfiction with its promise of legal support, but how? In 2002, there was a great purging of fanfictions on the original fanfiction posting website, fanfiction.net, shaking the fanfiction community and dissuading writers from posting their fanfics (Silver). It was this sort of mass-banning on works that encouraged the creation of Archive of Our Own and its legal branch the “Organization of Transformative works” where they “clarify the legality of fanfiction, champion fan-created works whenever they were legally challenged, and provide fans with legal resources in case they were targeted by copyright claims” (Silver). In short, Archive of Our Own gave fanfic writers a safe place to share their fanfictions.
Because of this difference with websites, despite the age difference and advantage Fanfiction.net may have with it, the increase of Harry Potter fanfictions on Archive of Our Own, for example, have increased 795% more than those on Fanfiction.net since 2010 (Pellegrini). Not only that, but Archive of Our Own has many other unique features that makes both writing fanfictions and reading fanfictions much more convenient such as tagging (Romano). Speaking from personal experience as a user of both Fanfiction.net and Archive of Our Own, although the first is not a bad place to read fanfiction, it is not nearly as user-friendly. For example, if I wanted to read a Harry Potter fanfiction, I could easily do so on both sites, but if I wanted to read a Harry Potter fanfiction that had the ship “Dramione” or had “zombies” or where Fred didn’t die, I can only specify those tags on Archive of Our Own to find that perfect fanfiction. And fanfiction sites are still continuing to expand, to shape, to mold themselves in order to fit the preferences of the ever-evolving writers that post on them.
#4 REASON:
The world of literature is a diverse melting pot of ideas and people, but even with this diversity, there are many minorities that are pushed to the side such as the LGBT community―in the world of fanfiction, however, they are the majority. Seeing LGBT often connotes inaccurate concepts, especially in literature, where one thinks “gay” when they see LGBT and then “the label of ‘gay’ often overshadows the important elements of the story/author, often tarnish[ing] the book before it can be read” (Guy). The LGBT community is so much more than just “gay,” and those different branches are very rarely explored in published literature, but in fanfiction, they florrish.
Although majority of fanfiction does involve romance and a good amount of it involves couples of the same sex, that is not the only layer as is with most “gay” literature. In fanfiction, everyone is represented―if you want to read a fanfiction where the main character is asexual, where the main character is genderfluid, where there’s a polyromantic relationship, where someone is aromantic, bisexual; no matter what it is you want, I can almost guarantee it’s out there somewhere. The fanfiction website Archive of Our Own found that only 38% of their users were heterosexual, meaning that at least 62% belong to the LGBT community and more people identified as genderqueer than as male (Hu). Everyone wants to be represented in media, to have someone to relate to.
The little gay literature that is there, is only just now being reprinted, falling out of print since the 80’s, and a good amount of it is being banned (Healey). For example, Amazon refused to sell a gay Victorian novel, claiming it was “pornagraphic,” yet they have an entire section for “erotic” fiction such as 50 Shades of Grey (Healey). With fanfiction, writers don’t have to worry about labels, whether a couple is straight or homosexual or genderqueer or whatever. Writers care about the stories, the chemistry between the characters that make them a dynamic duo, and with fanfiction, writers can share that.
CONCLUSION:
Fanfiction has existed for centuries with Sophocles's Oedipus Rex and Shakespeare’s Hamlet and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes and Star Trek and it shows no sign of stopping now. In fact, the amount of fanfiction hasn’t just increased because of its acceptance or its publication or the ease of posting, but because of new and continuous material.
Before the release of BBC’s show Sherlock, there were fanfictions based on the original book, and the addition of the show allowed Sherlock Holmes and John Watson to become more familiar, and thus, more fanfictions to be added to the overall fandom. The same occured with the Harry Potter fandom. When Jack Thorne’s play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (a published fanfiction continuing J.K. Rowling’s original series Harry Potter), fanfiction writers exploded with new material, new ideas, and new fanfictions; a total of 1,682 fanfictions concerning Harry Potter and the Cursed Child have been posted on Archive of Our Own since the play’s release date in 2016 (Search Results for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child). Due to the recent release of Voltron: Legendary Defender in 2016, there has been a staggering 5,054% increase of fanfiction for the show originally from the 80’s (Search Results for Voltron).
With every reinstatement of a show, a new generation of potential fanfiction writers are exposed to it, adding on to the classic mediums other fanfiction writers wrote about before them such as Star Trek or Sex in the City, where there are still significant increases of 8,600% since 2005 and the show ended in 2004 (Kneale). Fanfiction increases because more and more people are being exposed to that world. Just as there will always be incoming literature and TV shows and movies, new fanfictions will be trailing in afterwards like a relentless shadow.

Janis GOOD LUCK with the writing! I've been a fan of your (and Bre's) writing for a while now. And though I love love love FiCON I am sure that I'll also love the original stuff. Can I ask about your original works - are you re purposing the FiCON characters in new context or creating character which are not yet recognisable to the FiCON crowd.
Thank you, Anon! My goal is to mostly repurpose the original characters into a wholly original story (or series, more likely). I have a solid half dozen ideas that range from remaining a superhero-based story to the zombie apocalypse to historical royalty AU. There’s a lot of options and we aren’t settled on (a first) one yet. But, for example, if we went royalty historical AU we’ve got Will as the bastard oldest prince, Jules as the rebellious oldest daughter, Ellie as the picture-perfect princess who’s in love with her best friend, Nate as the heir to the kingdom who would much, much rather study the kingdom’s trade policies and manage finances than ever be king. If it’s zombie apocalypse we’re looking at Will, the oldest, trying to keep his four younger half siblings alive (including Bethany) while attempting to find their parents. You’d have the same ships in either ‘verse. That said... I’m intending to do this with Bre and this is just my half of the input. She likes things dark and twisty (and I love her influence on storylines), so we’ll see how they wind up. But basically... yes, I want to reuse these characters. I love them far too much to let them go and the dynamic I’ve spent years building between them all feels very real to me and worth exploring in other contexts... especially Ameliam and Will’s relationship with Beth, which has so much to dive into yet.

List all the things you’re currently working on in as much or little detail as you’d like, then tag some friends to see what they’re working on. This can be writing, art, vids, gifsets - anything at all!
Iwas tagged by @effelants
this will be both writing and crocheting
crocheting first.
- there´s currently a mabari head waiting for a body
- I have an umbreon who has no ears
- and a gleaceon without a head, since the yarn in the right colour was unavaiable
- I have a Garrus doll who has a head and legs but nothing in between so far
now for the writing *hides behind a bush*
- Nobody expects the.... Warden? currently on hiatus because I suck
Summary: you wake up with the anchor, everyone is exceedingly nice to you, calling you warden and hero. you look into a mirror, your eyes are glowing. you´re in dragon age? Cassandra is respecting you? you´re expected to be the HoF? well..shit. or where a spirit possessed the warden during the explosion of the conclave and didn´t know how many problems this particular body would bring. MGiT fic
- Lost in Green, also unfinished, since it was basically a dream and it never continued and how do I write Tevinter and fenris and AAAAH!
Summary: Fenris gets captured while trying to free elfs from slavers at the tevinter border. A girl and her father also got captured. The girl is a mage, fenris wants to leave her there, but when she´s a mage, why doesn´t she have any powers? but when she touches him, she suddenly starts glowing and his markings stop hurting? what is going on? OR a mage girl who can suck mana and fade energy only from people she touches. MGiT fic
- Remarkable Woman, Flammable. only started writing this.
an AU where my warden Bella never turned into a warden and instead led group of mages out of the circle after it fell in dao and tried to keep her little chosen family full of mages who never lived outside together. All while her chosen little Sister MA´Serannas is planning her vengeance on the templars and the chantry for trying to kill them instead of helping. Switches POV between both char´s
and now two original works from me, both on hiatus.
- Queen of Scores: a dystopian YA novel like thing and a very bad wordplay on the trope of “the chosen one”

So I decided to make a large list of plots / faces / ships that I want, which you can find below the cut. It’s long. Check it out and message me/like this if you’re interested in any of them!
MOST WANTED
So I’ve got 3 ships that I want most of all: Niels Schneider x Xavier Dolan, Daniel Sharman x Frank Dillane, and Niels Schneider x Daniel Sharman. I’m completely open plot wise for any of these though for the Niels x Daniel one, I did make this post earlier and still 100% stand by it. I will love you forever if you do one of these with me.
CANONS
TEEN WOLF
I love this show too much and am so sad to see it go so why not do some 1x1s for it?
I love playing Isaac tbh and would love to have some ships for him. Allison x Isaac is like my OTP so if someone did that with me I would scream? I’ve also always been intrigued with the idea of Lydia x Isaac so I would totally love it if someone did that one too (and I’m cool with changing Holland’s face if you’re uncomfortable with her). Scott x Isaac, Stiles x Isaac, Jackson x Isaac are all some other suggestions. I’m intrigued with Boyd x Isaac as well so that’s a suggestion there too.
Also, sorry Thiam shippers, but I’m 100% forever on the Briam train so if someone would play Liam against my Brett, I’d be in heaven.
IN THE FLESH
Okay so, fun fact, this blog was re-purposed from an rp blog for a group that sadly died. It was an ITF inspired rp and I loved the character I played there and would love to bring him back. There was also a wanted connection I had for him that never got filled but that would be really great as a 1x1. You can read about my character Apollo Bellerose (Niels Schneider fc) here but here’s also a summary of the idea.
(Muse A is Apollo, Muse B would be your character.)
M/M -- Muse A was a wild child, a feral animal of fire and rule-breaking. Hopes for him were dashed at an early age as he set himself up as the trouble-maker. Muse B was the opposite -- tempered and popular. The only reason their paths crossed was because they grew up in the same small town, in the same class. But that should’ve been it. It was a surprise to everyone when Muse B and Muse A started hanging out together, soon becoming inseparable. They were just children but they were attached at the hip, growing into adolescence and teenagers. Muse A was still wild, Muse B was still calm -- fire and water, red and blue. When they were sixteen, their friendship evolved into something more intimate. Though the relationship could be fraught at time -- Muse A to blame in almost every case -- their bond ran deep. Or it did, until Muse B died suddenly. It was an accident or heart failure or something similar, sudden and unexpected. Too soon. One might’ve expected Muse A to go off the deep-end but, rather, he was numb, going through the motions. That was until the Rising happened and the dead came back. The world ground to a halt but with the PDS sufferers in treatment centers, the world is returning to normal and Muse A is getting back on his self-destructive track. He refuses to acknowledge that overwhelming possibility that Muse B would be one of those PDS sufferers, going so far as to avoid Muse B’s grave. With the PDS sufferers returning to Roarton though, it’s only a matter of time before Muse A wouldn’t be able to deny to it. But will an apocalypse be enough to sever their bond? Probably not.
My main suggestion for B was Xavier Dolan though I also originally suggested Daniel Sharman and Keith Powers. Matt Daddario, Bob Morley, and Dominic Sherwood would also work though Xavier and Daniel would be preferred. This is, like, one I really, really want to do still.
XENA: WARRIOR PRINCESS
Campy 90s shows for the win (oh, and fuck you Looper -- it’s still perfectly watchable now). Anyways. I really want a Xena x Gabrielle plot, two bad-ass women travelling through the ancient world, kicking godly asses. As much as I love Lucy Lawless and Renee O’Connor, I realize that they’re not really usable so I’m totally down for changing the faces. Just... Please. Badass women and a canon that totally allows for AUs in all time periods -- it’d be awesome.
THE ORIGINALS
So um... I don’t want like a really super canon 1x1 here but like, after Koleb died, I got in my head this idea of what if, when Davina brought back Kol, Kaleb hitched a ride back. Kaleb’s bitter af but he was always kind of the way in my mind. The pairing would be Davina x Kaleb and we could also make this an OT3 if there was someone who’d like to play Kol as well but that’s not necessary for me.
LES AMOURS IMAGINAIRES
Uh... Indie French cinema for the win? Yeah, I know this won’t get any bites but I’m gonna try anyways. Basically a few years after the end of the movie, Francis and Nicolas meet again. There’s been some maturing, maybe Francis isn’t as close to Marie anymore (or maybe she got married or something). It’s slow-burn reconnecting and falling in love.
FEAR THE WALKING DEAD
So... I know Troy’s a POS person but I think there was potential for evolution in his character. He was isolated from a young age with an abusive father and alcoholic mother which didn’t give him much of a fighting chance in becoming a better person. Off the ranch though, I think he could have evolved. He also had a ton of useful information about walkers. Anyways, I’d like to give him that arc. Also I want to explore that mad chemistry between Nick and Troy so yeah. This masterlist might be good for some general plot ideas and tbh the “Who’s baby is this?” one just screams Trick to me.
GREEK MYTH
This can be like modern or actual myth -- either’s cool.
Zeus x Ganymede. Either historical like Zeus kidnaps him to be the wine-pourer and Zeus wants him but Ganymede is just perpetually pissed with him for KIDNAPPING him and Zeus has to win him over. Or maybe something modern that’s more sugary daddy/baby-ish?
Telemachus. I really love my baby Telemachus? Or Telemaque as the French would say. But, basically, there’s this suitor and he’s one of the younger ones, probably 25 or less, and not really in the running to win Penelope’s hand but eh. He doesn’t really care. He likes to tease Telemachus but as things get worse in Ithaca, he realizes he’s worried about Telemachus and starts teaching him how to fight and defending him and they start falling in love. He be all like ‘I’ll go with you’ when Telemachus goes to find his father (even though he doesn’t) and, when Odysseus returns, Telemachus has to defend him because he was technically one of the suitors and just... Please. (I’d play Telemachus.)
Odysseus x Penelope. Clever Odysseus and clever Penelope, dominating and tricking the world with their superior minds. A modern!AU.
HARRY POTTER
I love this universe so I’m super down for anything. I won’t do anything set at Hogwarts because I can never remain interested in that tbh but other stuff is cool. I highkey ship Remus x Sirius and would love to write them as long as the faces aren’t Andrew Garfield or Ben Barnes. I also love all the potential in the fucked up dynamic between Fenrir and Remus. I usually end up playing Fenrir but if someone wanted to let me play Remus in that, I’d adore you forever. A Regulus x Remus one would be awesome too. A Nymphadora x Remus ship would be cool too, as would a James x Lily or Lily x Marlene. Outside the Marauders era, someone needs to give me a Ginny x Cho ship. I also wrote a next gen son of Greyback (Lycus Greyback) once that I’d love to bring back. Maybe with Teddy? Or OCs -- OCs in the HP universe are totally okay with me.
PLOTS
So this tag has the plots I want but some I particularly want.
X. I’d like to be Muse B and maybe like have Tom Ellis as A? Or Jason Momoa? Idk. I’m open but I think it’d be super fun.
X. I’d be cool with playing either in this plot; I’d love to see Troye Sivan as A but again open but fun sounding.
“you’re supposed to be on a blind date with someone but you sat down at the wrong table and i haven’t been able to get a word in edgewise to tell you that and it’s been thirty minutes” from this post. I’ve no preferences on genders or faces just I think this could be cool.
Yo I’ve mentioned this multiple times not but THIS PLOT with Daniel Sharman as A and Niels Schneider as B -- let me play B and love. me.
“what is the ONE thing i asked you NOT to do tonight?” “raise the dead…” “AND WHAT DID YOU DO?!” “…raised the dead…” from this post. I really want to play a necromancer? Maybe we could do a Trick!AU where the walkers are because of necromancers and Troy has had to repress the fact he’s one his entire life and then Jeremiah and Jake are dead and yeah. But we could also do this as entirely OC. I’d still love it be necromancer-caused zombie apocalypse but I’m cool with other stuff.
“i’m a ghost and i’m trapped in the graveyard and i don’t normally talk to mortals but bro i have to ask wtf are you doing hanging around a graveyard is your life really this sad” from this post. open and fun again!
X. PLEASE. Any sort of serial killer plot would be awesome. Which is a weird fucking thing to say but okay.
“you and your friend always sit at the table a couple down from mine and gossip in [insert language here], which happens to be a language i’m currently learning. i’ve been eavesdropping to try and improve my listening comprehension and oh my god are you actually talking about how hot i am???” -- this please, from this post. maybe like a daniel sharman x tyler posey? or idk.
literally anything from this post but like i mention “who’s baby is this? au” for Trick in a canon divergent plot (ie. after they leave the ranch, before they get to the dam)
also this could also work for xavier dolan x niels schneider.
SHIPS
So how about a Xavier Dolan x Daniel Sharman? Or Jenna Thiam x Niels Schneider? Also Jack Falahee, Crystal Reed, Kat McNamara, Conrad Ricamora x Daniel Sharman. Other ones that don’t include Daniel, Xavier, or Niels: Eva Green x Caitlin Stasey (I’d also be cool with playing Eva if we used them for Xena and Gabrielle), Riz Ahmed x Fawad Khan (Fawad as a multi-billionaire playboy and Riz as a devoted grad student, maybe?), Charlie Hunnam x Jason Momoa, Marlon Teixeira x Willy Cartier, Andreja Pejic x Hari Nef, Andrew Garfield x Ben Barnes (but not as Remus and Sirius), Sofia Boutella x Charlize Theron.
FACES
It’s very clear that I love Daniel Sharman and Niels Schneider so they will always be most wanted, with Xavier Dolan as a close third. I feel most comfortable with them tbh and have the most muse for them (also I’ve made like 400 gifs of Niels). If you want to make me happy, let me play one of them and play one of the others against me. I would like to branch out at some point though so some others. There are honestly too many for me to list in their entirety so I’ll list only ones I have mentioned already. Bold are ones I want to play, italics I want used against me, plain are the ones I have no preference about (though I’d be open on most of the bold ones too).
Alycia Debnam-Carey, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Samuel Larsen, Adrianne Palicki, Laith Ashley, Elliot Fletcher, Iskra Lawrence, Lisa Teige, Iman Meskini, Hale Appleman, Tarjei Sandvik Moe, Adelaide Kane, Alexandra Daddario, Amber Heard, Josh Holloway, Angelina Jolie, Arden Cho, Barbara Palvin, Alex Saxon, Alexander Koch, Bianca Santos, Caity Lotz, Camila Quieroz, Cara Delevigne, Blake Michael, Avan Jogia, Austin Butler, Diego Barrueco, Bill Skarsgard, Booboo Stewart, Chloe Bridges, Byun Baek-Hyun, Diane Guerrero, Carlos Valdes, Josh Thomas, Dichen Lachman, Christopher Larkin, Eddie Redmayne, Ezra Miller, Gaspard Ulliel, Emeraude Toubia, Emilia Clarke, Famke Janssen, Gabriella Wilde, Halston Sage, Dev Patel, Douglas Booth, Godfrey Gao, Harry Shum Jr., Karen Fukuhara, Kiowa Gordon, Landon Liboiron, Matt Hitt, Matthew Gray Gubler, Keira Knightley, Kiana Lede, Lana Condor, Liza Soberano, Maira Walsh, Jamie Blackley, Jordan Fisher, Jamie Campbell-Bower, Megan Fox, Naomi Scott, Max Irons, Reece King, Richard Harmon, Natalia Dyer, Phoebe Tonkin, Priyanka Chopra, Madelaine Petsch, Seo Kang-Joon, Steven R. McQueen, Steven Yeun, Seychelle Gabriel, Shelley Hennig, Skyler Samuels, Haruma Miura, Lee Hyun-Jae, Thomas McDonell, Toby Regbo, Tom Holland, Tyler Blackburn, Joe Manganiello, Tyler Hoechlin, Cengiz Al, Froy Gutierrez, Tanya Beatty, Victoria Moroles, Zoe Kravtiz, Yoon Jeonghan.
This is not all-encompassing. There are plenty more faces. In fact, I’d love to use model faces without any resources -- just some old-fashioned writing, maybe some static icons if we feel like it.

WIP meme
Do This: List all the things you’re currently working on in as much or as little detail as you’d like, then tag some friends to see what they’re working on: writing, art, gifsets, whatever.
I was tagged by @thenewleeland - thank you very much!
And, ahem, you asked for it...
(I will add a read-more after a bit, since there is rather a lot of this. Don’t panic...).
Fan fic – all Rogue One at the present time
In a dark time, the eye begins to see
AU in which Cassian is an artist and Jyn is sent by Saw Gerrera to model for him as a cover to get into the Imperial Archives on Corellia. Angst, feels, smut, action and drama. WIP – currently writing chapter 38 in draft, with the published text on AO3 now up to chapter 35.
Keeping faith
AU in which Cassian and Jyn survived Scarif and are still with the Alliance, but are separated during the battle of Hoth. Jyn is taken prisoner and then discovers she is pregnant, and angst and many feels ensue. WIP – currently on just over 9,000 words in draft with the published text on AO3 standing at just over 6,000.
Hot and wet
Rebelcaptain one-shot that won’t behave; primarily feels, not as smutty as the title suggests!
In your eyes
Rebelcaptain one-shot, a follow-up to A little more information (which was itself a follow-up to one of the Paths of hurt and darkness stories, On attachment elsewhere). Cassian is hospitalised following a suicide attempt, post-battle of Endor. Serious angst and feels.
The Hope of Lyonesse
Only just got started on this, basically it’s still at the planning stage, and it may be a monster as there’s a lot of material to work with. Rogue One/Arthurian legend/other Celtic legends mash-up AU. Cassian is Tristan, Jyn is Isolde, Draven is Mark of Cornwall, Chirrut and Baze are the last two acolytes of the Order of Merlin, Bodhi Rook is a character who fuses the roles of Bedwyr and Brangäne. Mon Mothma is King Arthur, and is a rather more active figure than usual. The Rebel Alliance is the seven Celtic nations, Albion, Cornwall, Wales, Ireland, Scotland, Lyonesse and Galicia; they have a system of loose alliances and treaties cemented by dynastic marriages, and are trying to work together to fight off invasion on two fronts. The Empire is an unholy alliance between the Saxon invaders coming from the east and the magic-wielding Formorians of Hy-Braseal invading by sea from the west. Tarkin and Krennic are Saxons, Vader is the Lord of the Isle of the Torrent. Other SW characters being slotted in gradually. Warning: Do not expect a happy ending.
Captain Andor lives for a day
Only just got started on this, too! Total contrast to the above. A Rogue One/Miss Pettigrew AU. Late 1930’s setting, with jazz music, cocktails and romance for all. Expect fluff and feels with just an undertone of angst (because some of the protagonists are not stupid and are aware of politics).
Original fiction
The Bargain of Liberty (working title)
Just got started on this, so don’t look for it anytime soon! Especially as, being original fic, it won’t be going on AO3.
Historical fantasy set in a sixteenth century AU in which the Spanish did not succeed in conquering the native kingdoms of Central and South America. Consequently the balance of power across the world is totally different. In London, Dr John Dee has worked a great act of magic, the eponymous Bargain of Liberty, to ensure the freedom of his beloved sovereign, Elizabeth of England, and her people, and to enable her to marry her true love, her cousin Mary Stewart, Queen of Scots. A work of magic which has had unexpected ramifications. As our story begins, two British spies, Emilia Tanqueray and Kit Marlowe, and a mestizo Aztec sleeper agent, Javián Cuauhtémoc Sanchez, set out together to thwart the plans of the Inquisition. The Inquisition’s goals are to overthrow the Emperor Axayacatl the second of Mexico, and to send an Armada to invade the island of Britain…
Also sitting in my Dropbox, Pt 1: Uncompleted original fiction
The taker of daughters
This is a rewrite and expansion of an earlier Hansel and Gretel: Witch-hunters fan-fic. Significant character changes and hefty filling-in of background. A steampunk historical fantasy using characters from various ballet versions of folk tales, set in the aftermath of a great war between the High and Low Kingdoms of Faerie and the Middle World of Humankind. Main character is now Klara Stahlbaum (from The Nutcracker), other characters are her brother, who I’ve named Anton because I don’t like the name Fritz, a Firebird, an OFC who is a human/Firebird mongrel, the Lilac Fairy, and a pregnant giantess. The main antagonist, the Taker of Daughters, is Kostschei the Terrible. Currently at just over 77.000 words. I’m not sure if this is working, though. I’m having what I can only call tonal problems and struggling to find a balance between the darker and the less-dark elements of the story. So it may end up being abandoned altogether.
The Smiling Assassin
This was a NaNoWriMo project from 2014; a thriller about a retired MI6 agent working for a small London charity, who gets pulled back into his old world when a friend from the past asks him for a favour. It backfired at around 36,000 words when I realised the plot was not only derivative as all hell but also really sucked!
Fortitude
A Sci-Fi story about first contact with a telepathic alien species; needs re-writing a lot, but the basic storyline is still good.
A dream of death
My “no-zombies zombie apocalypse” story. Yeah, that.
Midnight in the Café Tana
An urban fantasy about a local government employee who is a practising witch, and her attempts to help her ex who has fallen victim to a psychic vampire.
Nohomer
A Sci-Fi piece mixing a love story inspired by Pelleas et Melisande with a background of social conflict between rich and poor in a far-off future of Rampant Intergalactic Capitalism.
The war is over
A Sci-Fi story inspired by the core ideas from my very first ever fan-fic, which was a sequel to Return of the Jedi written when I was a teenager. Key plot points are A) the Emperor is dead and the beleaguered Evil Empire is on the verge of losing the galactic civil war, looking for ways to fight back and sabotage their enemies, and B) any Emperor worth his salt is bound to have a son-and-heir tucked away somewhere.
Also sitting in my Dropbox, Pt 2: Completed original fiction
The Healers
A magic realist historical fantasy Western; a faith healer who really can heal rescues a member of the Jesse James gang from certain death and hires him to ride shotgun with her. They travel through 1880’s Missouri having assorted adventures, healing various people and one another and trying not to get killed by various other people who want to bring him to justice, while falling in love. Features lots of gritty local colour, dirt, violence, whores, blood, sex, angst and feels. I had a ball writing this and it’s probably my best piece of full-length original fic so far.
The Secret Country
Urban fantasy with people who have real magical powers/superpowers trying desperately not to get found out and caught by a government agency determined to make use of them as weapons. Flawed as a piece of writing, but quite an exciting read if you can get past a few sticky patches.
The eternal love of Gabriel Yeats
A slightly bonkers magic realist historical fantasy, featuring time travel, reincarnation, doomed romance and a lot of major character death. Very fond of this one too though it has its issues as a piece of novel writing – it’s much too episodic and has a big structural flaw which I never managed to solve successfully.
Ramundi’s sisters
A historical romance about an artist and his three sisters in early C20th rural Sicily. Very angsty and feels-y, with thwarted love and lots of unhappiness for everyone. This was my first full-length novel and although I think I’ve improved a lot since as a writer then I’m still fond of it because I remember the thrill of writing it and having it flow.

my f*cking WIPs
(Actually, it should be WsIP, but you know what I mean.)
Behold, the WIPs in my google docs:
Fandom: The Walking Dead Darlenn ofc
Scholarship - I don't want to talk about it. If by 'it' you mean 'when I'm going to finish this.' But if you want to talk about the story, then yes, hmu!
Daryl Dixon, Airline Pilot - continuing in my 'TWD character, awesome career' AU "series" lol. This is the fic that got eaten by my computer when it was 75% done. I have been slowly rewriting it but gotta say, it's agonizing. It's about 60% done now.
Currently Unnamed Christmas AU - okay, at one point I had called it The Temp Job - I started this mofo LAST CHRISTMAS GDI! 2015!! Daryl gets a Christmas temp job at the office where Glenn works. 50% done. *Crosses fingers for 2017*
The Marketplace - Zombie Apocalypse AU (I forget what you call them when the setting is still the same but the storyline is different? Canon adjacent?) Daryl sees Glenn in the Marketplace, his bright, sharp eyes assessing the surrounding scene before moving quickly with a purpose. He follows him into a dark tent. Daryl knows what type of transactions probably go on there. Prostitution or the like. Didn't think the kid would be into that sort of stuff, but then the end of civilization pretty much made people say ‘fuck it’ to their inhibitions and morals. Maybe 50% done? I only have a vague idea of the climax and resolution so this is stalled.
Currently Unnamed Firefly AU - Daryl and Merle are mercs and sign on to the Chieftan, a Transport/Salvage/Jobs-for-hire crew led by Rick Grimes. 30% done. Plot bunny has left me so I'm trying to scrape together some sort of story for this.
Currently Unnamed Hogwarts AU - When Daryl gets into Hogwarts the revelation of the wizarding world is a huge shock to him. Eventually he figures out how to get along, learns magic, makes friends, and is doing okay. Great, even. Then Glenn transfers to Hogwarts. 60% done, maybe. This is more just a quickfic so not very much plot.
Fandom: Harry Potter
Nisi Membra - Drarry. My first written fanfic in the HP verse (though I've had other ideas.) Two words: Wizard Porn. This is so fucking close to done.
Pensieve Dreams - Dramione. Draco is having a recurring dream about Herm- Grainger. He puts the dream-memory into his pensieve to study it from a different perspective. I only just started writing but I have the general idea all in my head.
Fandom: Teen Wolf
Sterek
sb242 - 95% done. Inspired by the state bill in Texas that would require schools to disclose personal information about students if the parents request it, including sexual orientation or gender identity records. Stiles gets outed to the Sheriff by the school.
Currently Unnamed Dollhouse AU - 40% done. Stiles and Derek are like Sierra and Victor in Joss Whedon's Dollhouse. Their love can't be erased.
Nuts - 25% done. Derek is a minor league ball player. The Sheriff offers to be his host family when Parrish, his original host, gets injured in the line of duty. The best part of Stiles's day is seeing Derek walking out of their shared bathroom, towel wrapped around his waist, water beading on his naked chest.
Derek Hale, Master Gardener - 10% done. Derek has a landscaping business. Lydia's parents hire him to re-landscape their yard. Stiles spends his summer at the Martin's pool oogling the hot gardener.
Alydira
Roommates - 30% I started this for femslash February 2016 yo. Kira and Allison are roommates. Allison and Lydia are together. Kira does't know what the scarf on the doorknob means. *fingers crossed for femslash February 2017*
Fandom: Check, Please!
Sexual Discourse Part II - 50% done. Shitty is worried he's fetishizing Lardo
AAARRRRHRHHHHHGHGGGGGGH. Holy shit that’s a lot. Why can’t I finish anything? I feel like there’s a life lesson in here somewhere.
