Okay so I read the first chapter of "A Picture of Dorian Grey"... my goodness I didn't know it was so gay. Hehehehehe and I got an edition that references all of the edits that were made to make it less gay(If you care this is the exact edition.) LMFAOOO what a treat.
So far I understand that my guy Basil is in love, as a hopeful romantic is wont to do. Lord Henry is your typical lackadaisical, thot, bad influence and cynic. He's also super interesting, seems like he's trying hard to be(or seem) dumber than he is and, I assume, he's hot.

LITERATURE SERIES: Classic Horror
“The horror genre never dies. It just keeps getting reinvented and it always will. Horror is a universal language; we're all afraid. We're born afraid, we're all afraid of things: death, disfigurement, loss of a loved one. Everything that I'm afraid of, you're afraid of and vice versa. So everybody feels fear and suspense.” —John Carpenter

genuinely didn’t like every time men guffawed during the screening of the substance i went to… a gasp or a laugh of surprise at the body horror is one thing, but i genuinely don’t understand what was so funny about the ending :-/ it was absurd, to be certain, and shocking and gloriously over the top, but it was also agonizingly sad imo. also i really don’t understand the people saying the POV of the movie was unsympathetic toward elisabeth. i think the movie was Very sympathetic toward her, even as she continued to make terrible decision after terrible decision :(

The new Dorian Grey Netflix adaptation sounds like it's going to be the most terrible straightwashed overly aesthetic piece of shit ever
Making Basil and Dorian brothers? bro, if you read that book and that was your read on their vibe, I worry for you.
And setting it in the modern beauty industry is so surface level. like 'ooh well its a book about a guy who wants to be pretty forever so he sells his soul to the devil so the painting ages instead of him, so maybe Dorian can be a like the Patrick Bateman of beauty gurus with an evil selfie'.
like...no. it has literally been done on every specfic show out there.
If you're going to actually honour the spirit of the book in a modern adaptation, you set that shit in the London gay club scene with all the bitchy gays with peter pan syndrome, and Dorian is the naive newcomer pulled into a life of drugs and debauchery, secretly terrified of losing his status as a beautiful twink as his hard party life starts to take its toll

Aesthetics: Dark Academia
I have grown to love secrecy. It seems to be the one thing that can make modern life mysterious or marvelous to us. The commonest thing is delightful if only one hides it.

It’s so weird to me when people are like… in fandoms of stuff like Shakespeare, or Dracula, or Moby Dick, or stuff like that, because I feel like I have this notion that old things have to be looked at with… respect, I guess, and critical analysis, and then, people are making ship names for characters and calling Jonathan Harker their poor little meow meow, and writing fanfiction for Hamlet alongside Rusty Quill Gaming, like it’s so weird
