Joking aside, if you have an uncongenial living space, you need this book.
(Also great for garden design.)
I hate the “open floor plan” that everyone is obsessed with in houses now. I want nooks and crannies and bizarre floor plans. I don’t need to be able to see what someone is doing on the other side of the house. I want places to hide and lurk and dwell in the shadows. I am the beast who awaits in the labyrinth

Novice sewing pattern: Cut out shapes. Line up the little triangles on the edges. Stitch edges together. We've also included step-by-step assembly instructions with illustrations.
Novice knitting pattern: yOU MUSt uNDerstANd thE SECret cOdE CO67 (73, 87, 93) BO44 (63, 76, 90) 28 (32, 34) slip first pw repeat 7x K to end *kl (pl) 42 * until 13" (13, 13, 15) join new at 30 pl for 17 rows ssk 27 k2tog mattress lengthwise BO and sacrifice a goat to the knitting gods. WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU WANT "INSTRUCTIONS," I JUST GAVE THEM TO YOU
#knitting#no it's not a real pattern but I can't write one that makes sense because I have no freaking clue what any of that means#How do you make things that aren't basic rectangles#Why has every knitter I've asked for help just said 'patterns are easy; you just have to know how to read them' & then refused to teach me#Where do I even find a goat to sacrifice#How do I join the pattern cult#I am so confused#I've been knitting for almost a decade but I can only make scarves and potholders#I learned one (1) stitch by watching a YouTube video and none of my friends or family knit so I have no IRL resources#And nobody I meet seems to want to take the time to explain the rest to me#I taught myself to sew through trial and error but that doesn't really work with knitting because error is pretty much just... Unraveling?#Anyway sorry for the tag rant I'm just frustrated that I see pretty things I want to make but the instructions are in an alien language#And the gap between 'absolute novice' and 'intermediate' seems to be about 20 years of experience and formal instruction

something i wish i'd see more in trigun fanarts is people having vash speak their native/non-english languages completely unprompted, ive seen folks have him speak french, which he canonically knows, but i really do believe he's a polyglot. mostly because of that one time in the desert when he saw the samurai and wanted to greet him in japanese but struggled to remember how to even say hello.
my headcanon is that rem had them learn as many languages as possible but with the big fall and so many people dying, which i think is what led english to became No man's land main (or even only?) language, means that vash (and knives!) both got horribly out of practice and are various sort of rusty in every others languages.
what im saying if there's any pun or joke you've been dying to write but just doesn't work in english vash (and knives!!) are right there!
#trigun#i LOVE saying 'that one time in the desert' when the whole planet is a desert it's so unhelpful its funny.#i love vash speaking french because im french and it is just. the stupidest language. the speech patterns can be so funny when overly#familiar or even rude. jveux dire imagine vash parler avec l'accent d'ta région natale ou autre. vash avec l'accent provençale jamais j'm'e#remettrais. encore pire si j'le fais parler avec mon vocabulaire du désastre. les possiblités quoi!! its also incredibly funny to me that#knives could also speak in any other languages. like what if he gets mad and decides to talk to the gung ho guns in idk finnish instead#OR WHAT IF KNIVES SOMTIME USE VERLAN PUTAIN ce serait génial. ive been thinking about it since ive read the manga. theres so many#hilarious tings we could do. real untapped potential. everyone you have the possibility to do the funniest thing pls.

Another bonus to learning a fiber art is being able to speak to others in a Lovecraftian language that nobody else understands...
...and also being able to read things like THIS:
#art#crochet#fiber art#described images#image description in alt#used a crochet pattern for this because it's just INSANE#see i can recognize some of these stitch markings but i haven't done them all yet#i actually kind of prefer the diagram pattern because it actually shows you the shape and the way stitches compliment the piece#with a 'normal' pattern (e.g. 1 dc in fifth ch from hook ch 2 4 dc) i understand it sure but. it isn't the same.#i was reading somebodys recommendations for tapestry yarn and understood all the abbreviations and what they mean#plus i feel like diagrams can be a great way to teach you not only how stitches look but how they contribute to the larger piece#one of my crochet proficiency goals is to be able to look at a piece and know instantly what made it#*cue me at the store analyzing a crochet piece so i can replicate it for 5× the cost*#if you're selling a crocheted piece for like $20 then it's my imperative to replicate it and not buy it 🫡#i think that has the same moral implication as like... 'proplifting'#did crochet as the example because thats what i do as a fiber art. if theres a similar thing for knit/weave/ect then DROP IT BELOW I BEG YO#i want to learn all the lovecraftian languages of the fiber artists <3#i feel like describing the image in exactly what stitch marking indicates what would have been too much so hopefully the explanation as to..#...what the diagram DOES and how it visually indicates a pattern was helpful <3

you know. just like with specific terms and nicknames like clanker or shinie, clones must've come up with unique meanings for their armor paint. like with different meanings assigned to colors of mandalorian armor except since the choice of color is out of their control, all the importance lies in shapes and placement
#this is obviously based on fanon as well as personal speculation but knowing that clones are such a tight-knit society#plus knowing the circumstances of their “upbringing” it wouldn't be surprising#there must be a code to everything#if we take into the account the idea of clones developing their own dialect together with incorporating combat sign language into it#i just think for clones everything matters. the words they use the body language their ranks etc and that everything would include paintjob#so like that would mean that there are specific ways you could paint ur armor that have their own meaning#like with some types of traditional embroidery or other textile arts#like an outsider would look at a clone in full armor and see a collection of geometric shapes and simple designs#but another clone would see so much more#clones could incorporate some personal designs together with more well known “universal” symbols#a stripe across the pauldron for luck. another stripe down the chestplate to signify bravery on the battlefield so on so forth#doylist: they didn't want to make adjustments to their clone models and used copy and paste#watsonian: a group of clones would collectively decide on armor pattern that would best represent their battalion#star wars

In portuguese there are no neutral pronouns at all... Even objects, species and verbs have gender!
Some random examples: Tree, house, lamp, wall, clothing, capybara, walk... all female
Paper, floor, soap, dog, cat, shoe, smell... all male
This confused me a lot as a kid when in translated media the animal characters that were referred to as one gender due to the species was actually another. Some words can be slightly altered to be the opposite gender though.
.
#see ever since I learned that some languages function like this I've been just a tiniest bit unnerved#I'm sure it works splendidly for you but I just get heartburn and tremors when I try to wrap my head around it#I feel like that's the polar opposite of Finnish where basically nothing has gender#how do you know? how do you know how to determine the gender of any given thing?#are there rules and patterns or is it more about memorization?#is it common to just go and misgender everything around you when you're learning Portuguese as a second language?#answered#anonymous

some of the architecture of zinder, niger. zinder rose from a small hausa village into an important center of trans-saharan trade during the 18th century, culmunating in it becoming the capital of the sultanate of damagaram in 1736.
#niger#hausa#architecture#my posts#in case you didn't know: hausa is a part of the afroasiatic language family (same family semitic langs are in)#there's a lot of theories about how exactly afroasiatic speakers spread & there isn't a consistent cultural/migration pattern#like w/ indo-euro languages#but hasua is probably to arabic/hebrew/syriac what english is to bengali or assamese (except even less similar)#i can pick out some hausa words myself ('sama' is 'heaven') but tbh im not sure how many are loadwords from arabic (since they use#'dunya' for 'world' for example). most hausa are muslim so itd make sense if they took some arabic words

Witness my creature purr huge style
#takostrations#umei#the process by which umei purrs#is due to there being a piece of backwards-facing cartilage in the roof of their mouth#its a universal part of the species#the purpose of it is supposed to be to ensure prey doesnt escape easily#but by running the radula against this inner-tooth#will produce a clicking or rumble sound#its a common sound in the language from umeis region#but sees less usage in other regions languages#purring is just a more human-centric way to refer to that specific noise pattern#since its done when happy/content#its like how humans will sigh contently without it really meaning anything in a language

#Trektober Day 9, "Dress Uniform". Julian's missing his dress uniform in 'Move Along Home', but since the one we eventually see him in is pretty unflattering I choose to believe that Garak did a night visit months before 'Cardassians' and got too distracted to actually wake him up.
#trek#trektober#trektober2023#julian bashir#jadzia dax#garak#ds9#deep space nine#fashion stuff is more important than spy stuff#garak's love language is acts of service but his approach is maybe a problem#seriously that uniform was not a good Julian look#bad fit the shirt and jacket don't work together they just need a kindly lizard to redesign the thing#this starts a pattern of Julian missing clothes and assuming it's his ADHD but actually it's nighttime lizard visits to purge the wardrobe#and yet he keeps acquiring horrible clothes from somewhere so I'm assuming that Dax knows and thinks it's funny to keep going

On the topic of Flight Rising (as a fellow FR enjoyer) I'm curious what flight(s) you've been in? If you dont want to share thats fair but it's interesting to hear peoples reasonings. I joined in the early days of sign up windows, didn't have internet and got put in Lightning by a friend who made the account for me. It has been years and years, don't even know that friend anymore and am still a die hard Spark.
I was actually a Light flight to begin with! Which is another thing that must be an Absolute Shocker, I'm sure. Girlboything who likes writing was in the flight well known for being full of weird writers.
My move was to the Wind flight because minty green is my favorite color. I do love the aesthetic of the wind, the kites, and the traveling, but I'm actually saving up gems to go to Earth next. I think I vibe the most with its lore, even though its scenery is a little uggo. I love how many cities are there, I love the idea of the crypts and the hidden treasures, preserving and documenting history.
I kinda wish you got a free flight change every like... 5 years. That's more than long enough to be fair I think. I've been playing since 2016 which is actually 8 years so... idk give me free flight change. let me out. im literally from the travel guys let me travel
#I kinda resent how uggo Earth's scenery is because rocks are gorgeous if you don't pick that dull dusty brown color#IF YOU NEED TO RELY ON GEMSTONES TO MAKE YOUR ROCKS LOOK GOOD YOU DID IT WRONG#(things i can equally yell at fr and an ugly diamond-block build in mincraft)#like to tie it back to the cats. Have you seen the GORGEOUS red sandstone formations in those parts of the modeled region?#ThunderClan's camp is a quarry and it was probably a sandstone quarry specifically#Because the sandstone in that region is a GORGEOUS shade of vibrant red#With white snow static that makes a breathtaking but subtle pattern to its banding#And like. The idea you can literally see layers of history in sedimentary rocks#ppl say rocks are boring but that's because they don't speak the language of the earth#It's a whole record of everything that happened in that geographic period of time#You can see where the world was covered in chixulub's ash#You can tell when a spot was a river and when it was a desert#And that's even without fossils which are EXTRA cool as shit#And they're NOT usually that ugly desaturated dusty brown#im going to go to earth flight and Edit Hue Shift the scenery it's gonna be great#pet site talk

Somewhat related to your Komaeda autism post, but did you know that FTD can often be mistaken for mental disorders like depression, bipolar, OCD, autism, etc.? And vice versa? I always thought it was interesting and I like playing with the idea that Komaeda got misdiagnosed with FTD because of that overlap. Idk it's just fun to think about (also because a lot of typical FTD symptoms really don't match with him imo so it could be a fun explanation idk)
Disclaimer: I have zero expertise in this.
I was actually just discussing that with someone! I'm not sure that's possible, though? Because of his age I feel like it would have taken a lot of red flags (or a lucky coincidence) for doctors to consider dementia at all, and there's no way they wouldn't have confirmed it with brain scans. @cry-stars recently told me about a case in Japan where a guy in his 20s had dementia mistaken for depression for aaageees, so I could see him being the same.
So I could see him being misdiagnosed as something else- or correctly diagnosed with something he has on top of the FTD, attributing FTD symptoms to that- for years before having it corrected to FTD, or luck leading to brain scans/cognitive tests getting him diagnosed out of nowhere, but not the reverse of the former.
I still really love reading meta on potential comorbidities, though! On top of the post-traumatic stress there's no way he doesn't have. I've read some neat perspectives on him from people with OCD and BPD, but I don't have them myself so I can't add anything to those discussions.
#@ cry-stars pinged you in case you have more insight on this :0#imo bvFTD (combined with extreme post traumatic stress) tracks more for him than autism too after going through that icd list#part of the reason i did that was to look at the autism interpretation with the same strictness we usually apply to the FTD#like- he has FTD's social impairment/lack of filter/etc and rigid thinking patterns#without necessarily needing to have noticeable language or memory issues at this stage#and the latter is something he could be quietly compensating for#but i'll wait for the dementia metas and defer to those#anyway ty for the ask :D#kaoikentimesten#lyre gets interrogated#danganronpa#komaeda#komaedology
