*sigh* thoughts on Nintendo's botw/totk timeline shenanigans and tomfoolery?

tbh. my maybe-unpopular opinion is that the timeline is only important when a game's place on the timeline seriously informs the way their narrative progresses. the problem is that before botw we almost NEVER got games where it didn't matter. it matters for skyward sword because it's the beginning, and it matters for tp/ww/alttp (and their respective sequels) because the choices the hero of time makes explicitly inform the narrative of those games in one way or another. it matters which timeline we're in for those games because these cycles we're seeing are close enough to oot's cycle that they're still feeling the effects of his choices. botw, however, takes place at minimum 10 thousand years after oot, so its place on the timeline actually functionally means nothing. botw is completely divorced from the hero of time & his story, so what he does is a nonissue in the context of botw link and zelda's story. thus, which timeline botw happens in is a nonissue. honestly I kind of liked the idea that it happened in all of them. i think there's a cool idea of inevitability that can be played with there. but the point is that the timeline exists to enhance and fill in the lore of games that need it, and botw/totk don't really need it because the devs finally realized they could make a game without the hero of time in it.

Listened to J. Smith-Cameron’s interview on the podcast The Back Room with Andy Ostroy and there were a few RomanGerri bits in about the last 10 minutes, transcribed below!

JSC: “And then I remember [Jesse Armstrong, at the start of filming season four] saying in terms of the arc of the Roman/Gerri story that he makes this sort of spectacle of himself in his grief at the funeral and that then, though, Gerri and he have a poignant scene where Gerri tries to be nice to him, and that scene didn’t make it into the cut.”

the fact that this was literally the big thing jesse armstrong told her about roman and gerri’s arc at the start of the season .......... and then it got cut out ............ cool cool cool ... my supervillain origin story grows ever deeper ....... (i feel grimly validated in my season-long sense that the scene in 4.03 where she refused to comfort him was always supposed to eventually be bookended with a scene where she did, tho. 🥲😢)

and then this bit was in a lightning round where he asked her about how she thinks various facets of the show would go after the ending!

Andy Ostroy: “Do Gerri and Roman have any kind of sexual interaction again?” JSC: (pause; then, firmly) “Yes. I think so.” Andy Ostroy: “Good answer.”

Riot was in his own thoughts when he felt a hand touch his face. He blinked back into the present, and looked down at Rachael; she was reaching up to brush his bangs out of his face, uncovering the two long scars and glass eye that lay hidden beneath. There were chunks of scales that had been chipped, and patches of his eyebrow where the hair no longer grew in quite right.

"Pretty sick lookin', innit?" He half smirked. "I never told ye how I got it, did I? It was back when I was still trainin' under my dad t'be a knight--think I was 14 or so. We were taught how t'deal with attempted kidnappin's an' assassination attempts on the people we were meant to protect--so it came as a real shock when this guy showed up an' comin' at me personally, as a kid no less. My guess is that he was either tryin' t' get rid o' the knights before they could stand in his way, or he was someone workin' for the revolutionaries who wanted to disband the oligarchy. I never found out fer sure.

He came packin' with these guantlet things, with two blades stickin' out over the top of 'is hand. He got me pretty good in the face with 'em, right over my eye. I still managed t'subdue the fucker an' keep myself conscious while half blind an' bleedin' all over the place long enough 'til my dad showed up. There was no way of savin' my eye - it was a big adjustment re-learnin' t' fight with half my vision gone an' my depth perception fucked, but I got the hang of it. Still passed the test on track a lil after my 18th birthday." He flashed a rocker sign with his hand. 🤟

"Normally, I don' like folks touchin' me on that side o' my face. Makes me anxious, not bein' able to see it comin'. But..."

Riot leaned into Rachael's hand. Her skin was always cool in comparison to his. It felt nice--soothing, in a way. His eyes closed a little, and he let out a soft sight through his nose.

"Fer you, I'll make an exception. Yer allowed."

once I had a dream that azul gave me his credit card to use for some reason and I bought something really small (like worth 8 bucks or so) and ended up calling him on my phone and being super adamant that I would pay him back and how I really didn't want to spend anything in the first place. I remember he sounded really distracted and kind of hushed, so I asked if I called at a bad time or if he was busy to which he replied "....no, of course not. I'm completely free" turns out he was most definitely not free, and I called him while he was in a business meeting. and being the simp he is, he picked it up right away in front of everyone before leaving the room lmao

I wish I had more blorbo dreams esp romantic ones like you had with scara but my brain would rather it show me getting chased endlessly instead 👉👈

Aaaa that's so cute!!!! Azul will always be a simp no matter where he is. (*꒦ິ꒳꒦ີ) How generous of him to lend his credit card!!!! He is a sweetheart when he truly cares hehe!! I like that he will always choose you even when he's in a business meeting. Business is not nearly as important as answering a phone call from his crush. >:D

I wish I could have more romantic dreams as well! Although speaking of being chased, I do remember I had a dream where Floyd kept chasing me down and confessing over and over. I'm pretty sure that dream ended with lots of kisses lol. I am not immune to the love language of eels. There was also a vivid dream I had in which I pulled Halloween Jade back when I was fighting for my life trying to summon him, and when I logged into twst that morning (fully expecting to see Halloween Jade) I was disheartened to realize it had only happened in the dream. T_T

Part of my dream last night included being a part of some kind of love experiment where you get like 9 tries at finding love after you die? And it involved sitting in a train station where this empty car would come by with little personals ads for 2 different men and women and if you liked one you got to scan this little spoon thing and go try your luck at a relationship.

I got so excited at one point bc one of the people had a dog and she was cute and seemed good, albeit a little young (32 maybe?) and I was gonna scan my spoon but wanted to read all the ads first. BUT they were blurry, and I was squinting, and then before I could scan they were whooshed away :((((

Anyway I'm pretty sure it's bc I listened to a podcast that was talking about finding love and they gave some satisfaction formula where basically SURE you can keep searching after this point but you've probably found someone who's gonna be a pretty decent partner. (I think it's like-- 37% of the year range between when you start dating and when you'd ideally like to be partnered? So if you start dating at 20 and want to be settled by 30, after 3.7 years of dating you'd look to stay with the next person who's better than anyone you've dated previously).

Anywayyyyyy needless to say that any window I might've imagined passed a LONG time ago, oopsie kitty! Hence that train zipping off when maybe woman, 31, with a dog was my ideal, like WHO KNOWS!

One thing that's true though is that I think this could be a fun short film idea. Something to ponder.

I've actually been scrounging for an ending to Ellenville, because it's hard to actually 'end' a tragedy with something that feels complete, and that last post hit me with yeah, that's right. Because we live in a world where blood is protection and the cost of safety; and it fits in so neatly with the themes of death as stasis and longevity.

The 'end' is the regulations in place. Not even watching it happen, but success. This is The Pushcart War but epic fantasy.
