While I love headcanons that state Nightmare and Dream speak 'X' language are good since we love some multi-lingual kings, I want to point out that Nightmare and Dream's home AU would've spoken a dead language. They were living 500 years in the past in what is often depicted as a fairly ancient looking village.

I love the idea that after the apple incident Dream and Nightmare were the only ones left speaking this language. But while Nightmare had a chance to develop and speak like an adult, Dream was only ever able to speak with a six year old's understanding.

And that at some point in the future Nightmare tries to taunt Dream in their mother tongue but Dream legitimately doesn't understand.

Or that Dream teaches some children (or even some ship kids) nursery rhymes in the dead language that Nightmare over hears which (although he'd never admit it) causes him to back down from whatever attack they'd been planning.

Master Fu still went out to choose people off the street to get miraculouses, but he just so happened to give the Ladybug to Adrien (otherwise it happened the same way), and the Cat to Claudia. A lack of any outside support from The Order (which doesn't know he exists) or Master Fu (who is, again, dead) is what leads Ozymandias to be so attached to the grimoire—He usually either has it around to take notes on akumas (which is fundamentally useless but he doesn't know that) or to translate it from Old Chinese to French using what knowledge he does know of Chinese.

Sabbath, of course, isn't all too interested in the "wide-spread implications of the responsibility thrust upon us" that Oz Is obsessing over (which he mostly does because he's never been given enough agency to be in charge of anything, especially not this), so Sabbath serves as a way to ground Ozymandias, in addition to being the one who does all of the actual fighting. She gets on his nerves often with her middle-school-boy flavor of crude humor, but regardless they still have that sort of early-Ladynoir-staple closeness that comes with being the only two superheroes in the city. It's not as if Ozymandias ever tries to keep any information from her, mostly because he tends to do his translations/fieldwork when they're together on patrol.

celebrates every holiday he can. wears reindeer antlers with tiny baubles on the tines in december. he wears an eye searing neon pink jumper with red love hearts during feburary. once smuggled a small flock of chickens into the garden centre around easter (the store manager hit the roof when he found out). sets up a 'display' paddling pool in the garden centre from may until the end of july filled with plastic toys and orange b&q buckets and lets all the children play in it. hosted an unofficial and unsanctioned barbecue for staff and customers on the august bank holiday and wore an apron emblazoned with "KISS THE COOK" with a white chef's toque perched at a jaunty angle (again, the store manager hit the roof until he realised it was GREAT publicity). once dressed up as baba yaga's dancing hut for halloween complete with chicken leg patterned leggings.

he's a whizz at fixing broken equipment and can be found tinkering with the guts of the WAVE machine when it's being finicky and cooing sweet nothings to it. ("she is she, not it. it is very rude. she is a beautiful temperamental lady who must be treated with respect").

you'll never catch him in work trousers, he's always wearing a pair of oil stained and dirt streaked blue jeans, complete with ripped out knees. yes, he has been told by the store manager that he needs to wear the appropriate uniform multiple times. nikolai ignores him every time.

if you need a spare anything, nikolai can source it for you. spare pen? take the one from behind his ear. spare roll of duct tape? out of one of the pouches of his apron. spare roll of receipt paper? let him fish that out of one of his secret stashes. just don't ask him where it came from.

what if i make nikolai the unhinged seasonal department manager in the retail hell universe? it would suit him i think. the seasonal department is an ungovernable land filled with some of the wildest people i've ever met
