on the one hand I think inner demons could stand to have a bit more romanced rook specific content, but on the other hand the underlying in-built implication that 'yours is the one true voice of comfort and safety in my inner world' is a sentiment and intimacy so way beyond the romantic or the platonic or any secret third thing you could care to name that it makes me lose my entire poor little mind a bit. it's so big and fundamental — near-existential — that in that exact moment at least the distinctions kind of seem irrelevant.
all the people lucanis' mind conjures up along the way are relationships he has that are unavoidably mixed and fraught in some ways even when they're also full of love (they are fraught BECAUSE they're full of love) — the good in them inseparable from things that hurt him at the same time. (it's about: the basic disorganized attachment patterns this poor guy is dragging around with him. careful with those, they're dellamorte heirlooms. what you love also inevitably hurts you and you won't be allowed to have one without the other, you have to surrender parts of your soul to hold on to what little you have left: this is the story up until now.) and the idea that rook isn't that to him — that beneath the fear of wanting them when romanced (which is more its own separate thing because within this psychology, actively wanting something and not just clinging on for dear life to even a meager status quo lest you lose it is in itself dangerous bordering on catastrophic), this is a relationship where there isn't resentment, or guilt, or shame, or dread, or rage, or self-hate, or any of the other emotions that keep him paralyzed, unable to move this way or that. no debts, nothing owed of yourself and your soul's substance except what you can freely and safely and happily give. love and freedom don't coexist — but, I mean, you're almost starting to make me think........... unless...👀👀👀. the unconditional and undramatic 'you are here and I am here with you, you can be exactly how you are right now with me and it's safe for us both even though you're afraid it won't be, I'm not going anywhere' acceptance rook shows him here that he returns to them in the big romance scene, when it's rook who needs it. the way he's just. standing there in the center of it all, like a child desperately helplessly waiting to be found, hiding in the place he hopes you'll know to look first. (rook does know. it's one of the first things they say in there.)
in short the most important room in his little mind palace for the romance is the very first room — the one where rook isn't. where, in fact, rook cannot be, because they disprove the entire structure of the place with their existence and presence in his life. with everyone else he's putting words in their mouths about what they think of him, and rook is the one who actually gets to come in to speak their own words to him — and have him listen. ('he'll listen to you, he always listens to you', 'your voice is a comfort'.) of course rook isn't present anywhere else in there — at the risk of stating the obvious to a tedious degree, they aren't one of the locks, they're bringing the key. in the very finest 'the messenger and the message' sort of way.
#dragon age#dragon age: the veilguard#dragon age: the veilguard spoilers#dragon age spoilers#lucanis dellamorte#rook x lucanis#rookanis#dragon age meta#rook is his first brush with actual safe attachment. and to me and because of who I am as a person#nothing could be more romantically devastating or impactful fhdsjkfhs that's literally the unreachable wistful dream the pie in the sky#the garrus romance echoes too. some of the same stuff going on under the hood here#you know who else he's sneakily like too actually? iron bull. the 'no matter where I turn I'll hurt someone I love' and dissociation stuff#there's that whole line about 'walking close to the edge or whatever'#which is masterful as a diversion b/c what this romance is really about is feeling truly safe with someone#in a sort of weirdly realistic way that makes it struggle with the conventions of video game romance but sure is Doing something!#and I unwittingly made a rook who also is on that specific arc so it's working out just devastating for me thanks for asking#the part in andrea gibson's 'prism' that's like. there is no shelter in the womb it's where you learn the cord that feeds you#could at any moment wrap around your neck. labour // leah williamson
a/n : i giggled a lot writing this.
warnings : none really, set in a hospital, reader being gobby
Leah was ready for anything. At least, that’s what she’d been telling herself for nine months. She’d read books, watched videos, and even gone to a birthing class where she’d accidentally fainted during the “miracle of life” video. But now, with you gripping her hand like you were trying to crush her metacarpals, she realized nothing could have prepared her for this.
“You’re doing amazing,” Leah said softly, her thumb brushing over the back of your hand.
“shut the fuck up you evil woman,” you growled, your head snapping toward her with the intensity of a woman possessed. “one more bloody ‘you’re doing amazing, and i’m going loose it”
Leah blinked. “Alright, cool, cool, cool. I’ll just… stop talking.”
“Good idea,” you hissed, then immediately let out a pained groan that shook the room.
The midwife, a chipper woman who apparently didn’t fear death, tried to help. “Let’s focus on breathing—”
“Don’t you start with the breathing! I AM BREATHING, AREN’T I?!”
Leah glanced at the midwife apologetically. “She’s normally lovely. I promise.”
“Don’t you dare apologize for me!” you barked. “You did this to me, you fucking cunt! You and your stupid, sexy smile!”
Leah couldn’t help but smirk. “You think my smile is sexy?”
“NOT THE TIME”
An hour later, you were in what the midwife called “active labor” and what you called “the seventh circle of hell.” Leah, to her credit, was trying to keep it together, but you weren’t making it easy.
“How about I go stand up front with the midwife?” she suggested, trying to be helpful. “You know, cheer you on from the sidelines—”
“ABSO-FUCKING-LUTELY NOT!” you yelled, grabbing her wrist then smacking her arm with surprising strength for someone in so much pain. “YOU ARE STAYING BACK HERE, WITH YOURE WIFE. I can feel my fanny ripping in half, ain’t no way in hell your seeing that”
Leah blinked, torn between amusement and terror. “Babe, that’s not—”
“NOT TAKING ANY BLOODY CHANCES!”
“Alright,” Leah muttered, holding her hands up. “I’ll just stay here then.”
“Good,” you snapped. Then, as another contraction hit, you added, “But you’re still not getting sex for a year. Minimum.”
Leah gasped in mock horror. “A YEAR?!”
“Maybe two! Depends on how long it takes me to forget THIS,” you shouted, gesturing wildly to your entire body before screaming in agony once again.
“Didn’t you say earlier that you’d forget everything once you saw the baby’s face?” Leah asked you.
You leveled her with a glare so sharp it could’ve sliced through steel. “FORGET WHAT I SAID EARLIER! one more word from you woman and i’m getting a divorce.”
By hour nine, the room had descended into chaos. You cussing out at everyone in sight, including the poor anesthesiologist who had tried to offer you an epidural.
“I don’t care if it’s late in the game!” you shouted. “Stick the bloody needle in my spine, you fucking COWARD!”
The anesthesiologist froze.
Leah quickly intervened. “She doesn’t mean that.”
“I MEAN EVERY WORD!”
“She’s in pain,” Leah added, patting his arm. “She called me a ‘stupid, gorgeous twat’ earlier. It’s just how she expresses love.”
The anesthesiologist looked unconvinced but did as you asked, and for the first time in hours, you seemed to relax.
“Thank God,” you muttered, leaning back against the pillows. Then, turning to Leah, you added, “Don’t get comfortable. I’m still mad at you.”
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the midwife smiled. “Alright, one more big push!”
“One more?” you snarled. “THAT’S WHAT YOU SAID THREE PUSHES AGO, JANET!”
“Her name is Emma,” Leah whispered.
“I DON’T CARE WHAT HER NAME IS!”
Leah bit her lip to keep from laughing.
“Alright,” the midwife—Emma—said patiently. “Let’s do this together. Big push!”
With a guttural scream that would’ve put banshees to shame, you gave one last push, and suddenly, the room was filled with the sound of a baby’s cry.
“She’s here!” Leah exclaimed, tears streaming down her face as the midwife placed the tiny, squirming bundle on your chest.
You stared down at your daughter, your entire world shifting in an instant. “Oh my God,” you whispered, tears pricking your eyes. “She’s perfect.”
“She is,” Leah agreed, leaning down to kiss your forehead.
“She’s also loud,” you added. “Definitely gets that from you.”
“Oi!” Leah protested, but her grin gave her away.
Later, as your daughter nursed contentedly, you looked at her with a soft smile. “You know,” you said, stroking her tiny hand, “your muma is going to be so jealous. You’ve stolen her favorite spot.”
Leah gasped, clutching her chest dramatically. “Innocent ears! Did you just tell our newborn daughter about—”
“Yes,” you interrupted. “And she’s got a right to know.”
Leah shook her head, feigning devastation. “I can’t believe you’d corrupt her like this. On her first day. What kind of example are you setting?”
From the corner of the room, Leah’s mum, who had been quietly observing the whole thing, finally spoke up.
“Right, well,” she said, smirking, “this has been the most entertaining day of my life.”
You groaned, burying your face in your free hand. “Oh, God. You’re still here.”
“Still here,” her mum confirmed, grinning. “And I can’t wait to tell this story at Christmas.”
Leah burst into laughter while you muttered something about filing for divorce.
That night, as you lay in bed with your daughter snuggled between you and Leah, you sighed.
“I guess I forgive you,” you murmured.
“For what?” Leah asked, her voice soft.
“For putting me through hell today.”
Leah grinned, brushing a strand of hair from your face. “Does this mean the sex ban is off?”
You shot her a look. “Don’t push your luck, Williamson.”

knock knock
he calls her name.
she rolls her eyes, brushing out the tangles in her hair. “i need to talk to you.” his voice comes sternly.
she cracks the door, continuing to detangle. the plan was to ignore him, yet she can’t help but seethe at the fact that she had to deal with claire again.
“go talk to your girlfriend” her retort comes sharply.
“can you not start this shit?” his face scrunches.
“i’m not starting anything,” she defends, “you’re the one who keeps inviting that girl over here.”
“she forgot her scarf,” he states, “she just came to pick it up. that’s it.”
the girl scoffs.
“i’m sure she wanted a lot more than her scarf from you, carm.”
“you-,” he rubs his forehead, sighing, “i told her that we’re together, okay?” his eyebrow twitches from the argument.
“you only told her that because she saw me in your shirt,” the girl argues stubbornly, “if i didn’t walk behind you, you wouldn’t have said anything.” she turns the shower on.
“yes i would have,” he contests, “and even if she didn’t see you, i’ve got these fuckin’ things all over my neck,” pointing to the dark purple hickeys that lay on his skin, “thanks for those, by the way. gotta go into work tomorrow like this.”
she bites her lip to hide a smirk.
he catches it and raises his eyebrows in response.
“payback.”
“what?” he stutters, shaking his head.
“those are nothing compared to what you gave me.”
he scoffs and crosses his arms. tries to push away how roused he becomes when they bicker like this.
“i didn’t hear any complaints while i was giving you them,” he counters.
she rolls her eyes.
“can you get out? i need to shower.”
“m’not done talking to you,” his eyes lock on her face.
she puts her hand on her hip and scoffs, staring at him for a moment, studying his features. cursing how her body tingled from the argument. deliberating.
“fine,” she concedes, threading her fingers under the hem of the borrowed shirt, lifting it up over her head to reveal her nudity. if he won’t leave, she’ll just shower anyways.
carmen fights a groan at the sight, instead forcefully exhaling through his nose.
she was right, the marks on his neck were nothing compared to the bruises littering her skin, trailing from her neck all the way down to her chest, ranging from red to purple to brown.
the girl turns to open the glass door of the shower, stepping in, watching as the man shamelessly admires her figure. she goes about her business as if he’s not there, submerging her head under the stream of water, carding her fingers through her hair to scrub her scalp.
he’s not done talking to her, yet he can’t seem to remember what he even wanted to say, transfixed by her nude, wet body just feet away. she begins to hum a tune and lather up her hair with shampoo.
carmen approaches the glass.
“hey,” he tries with a knock, eyebrow twitching. something else twitching, too.
she glances at him, suds dripping down the side of her face, sliding down her breasts. she smirks knowingly at the sight of his flustered face, pushing her chest out slightly before drenching her face underneath the water again.
he knocks on the glass door again, jaw tightly clenched. she rubs the water out of her eye and turns to him, cracking the door of the shower open.
“hm?” she questions, gazing up at him.
“we gonna finish talking?” he asks. he looks angry, but she knows better. the way his chest puffs out. the way his jaw clenches in that certain way. he looks hungry, and she’s tempted to keep pushing.
“i can’t. i’m in the shower,” she bites down on her lip to refrain from smirking.
“why-” a sigh, running his fingers through his hair, “why you being such a brat today, huh?” he strains, giving great effort to keep his gaze from trailing down.
“because i want you to myself,” she bites, “i’m tired of sharing with claire.”
“will you knock that shit off? y’not sharing me with anyone.”
“uh, i beg to differ,” her eyebrows scrunch, “you’ve been fucking around with her since i moved in.”
“fucking around?” he scoffs, “she was getting her scarf.”
“there was the other time, too, carm,” she reminds him.
“that’s because-” he lets out a sigh of exasperation, hand carding through his hair. “listen. she’s the last person i wanna be with. we just…weren't good together.”
“why not?” she presses
“there just wasn’t…i dunno, sparks? it was like dating a friend.”
“okay.” she’s still mad, but she likes the words that come from his mouth. because if she has one thing with carmen, it’s definitely sparks.
“yeah?” he tries, leaning to see her face, “you know i’m yours, right?”
“yeah. whatever.” she doesn’t want to concede, too fired up about claire coming back over. “you should’ve told me.”
“i knew it’d make you mad,” he defends.
“not as mad as it makes me thinking that you invited her,” she scoffs, “fucking hate seeing that girl bat her eyelashes at you.” she lathers shampoo between her hands and begins to wash her hair.
“yeah?” he raises his eyebrows, “feeling jealous?”
“shut up.” she can sense the stupid smirk on his face.
carmy’s concentration breaks, and his gaze flits down to her sudsy chest. fuck. he clears his throat before speaking.
“didn’t know girls like you could get jealous.”
“girls like m-what? what is that supposed to mean?” she cracks an eye open.
“means you’re too fuckin’ pretty to worry about that shit. so just lose the attitude.”
his answer catches her off guard. the pulsing between her legs catches her off guard too. so she just turns away from him, scrubbing her scalp with her soapy fingers and shutting her eyes tightly.
he chides her name and pushes the glass door open further.
she ignores him, soaking her hair under the stream of water, muffling his voice. her eyebrow twitches.
carmy steps partially in and turns off the water, getting his shirt wet in the process. the girl’s eyes shoot open and she whips around to face him.
“what the fuck, carmy?!”
“i need you to fuckin’ hear me.” his comes louder than he anticipated. “i don’t. want. claire.”
she doesn’t even care anymore. his lips look so inviting, she thinks. his white shirt clings to his chest in the spot that got wet.
she just looks at him for a moment. studies his frenetic expression. looks at his lips again.
“are you gonna keep fucking fighting with me or are you gonna take that wet shirt off?”
it takes him a half second of firm deliberation before he’s yanking his shirt over his head and pushing his sweatpants off. she grins as he roughly grabs her face and slams his lips against hers.
he kisses her with a hungry frenzy, like he has something to prove.
and they apologize to each other with their bodies yet again, as carmen lifts her against the cold tile and fucks her, coaxing and kissing and thrusting an orgasm out of her.
he fucks her until it feels like all the hurting is gone. until she gets lovey and desperate for him. until he gets so worked up he groans promises about finding her in california and giving her a ring.
by the time they finish, the water is cold and the girl begins to shiver. so the two quickly finish washing up and carmy wraps her in a towel.
he retrieves one of his sweatshirts for her to wear, smoothing his hands over her arms to help warm her up.
without many words exchanged, they decide to cuddle up on the couch and watch a movie together. she lays her head on his lap and he cards his fingers through her hair absentmindedly. exchanging tenderness to help mend the argument. forgetting feelings of jealousy and shortcoming and guilt.
they cozy up in carmen’s bed that night, taking a moment before falling asleep to just lay staring at each other. joking softly, touching each other sweetly.
he asks her about california, and watches with fascination as she lights up telling him about the beach she grew up next to. tells him about how when things would get bad at home she would sneak out her window and spend hours swimming in the salty water. letting the waves lap at her skin. letting the sun kiss her better. how it seems so dangerous looking back at it, but as kid nothing ever seemed that dangerous. it felt like nothing could hurt you.
carmy enthusiastically agrees with her. follows her memory with his own anecdote of when donna took him, mikey, and nat to lake michigan and little carmy got separated from everyone. how he would have otherwise panicked and ran around and made the situation worse, but it was such a beautiful evening. so he decided to just sit on a rock and watch the waves roll in.
a big smile grows on the girl's face as he recounts the moment when his mom found him. how she threw her arms around him and cried. how he was too young to understand why she was so scared when it was such a lovely evening.
she wraps her arms around his shoulders and their chests press flush together. she kisses his neck, and they stay quiet for a moment.
“i wish i didn’t have to go back,” she whispers her admission.
“me too.” he keeps playing with her hair.
it’s quiet for a moment. there’s a heaviness that fills the room.
“how long you gonna have to end up staying?” carmy asks softly, leaning away from her to study her eyes. her face. trying to memorize every detail. he doesn’t miss the way her expression falters at his question.
the girl doesn’t answer, and her eyes become glossy.
“shit,” he breathes. her eyes dart to his. “you’re not coming back, are you?”
“my whole family is there,” she whispers, “my friends. there’s nothing for me here.”
“really?” he scoffs, “nothing at all?”
“don’t start, carm.”
“y’know i fuckin’ love you,” he harshly whispers. she flinches slightly at the word. it feels so much heavier without the haze of lust.
“all we ever do is fuck and fight.”
“that’s not true,” he argues.
“it is.”
the man lets out a sigh of frustration, studying her eyes. her face. her lips.
“it just…it feels right with you,” his tone softens.
she doesn’t say anything for a moment, and fantasizes about leaving everything behind and building something in chicago, no matter how much she had grown to hate the weather. she fantasizes about the man in front of her. how she wants to build a life with him. how makes her feel like no other man ever has.
it’s hard to verbalize as her mind racks back and forth, so instead she just leans forward and kisses him softly, fingers threading through the hair at the nape of his neck.
carmy reciprocates hesitantly, mind racing with the things he wants to tell her. how he doesn’t care about the distance. how he’ll call her every night. how he’ll keep her room vacant incase she wants to come back. he softly groans into the kiss when she slips her tongue into his mouth, feeling her press her chest flush against his. it feels so good, but he knows it’s wrong to keep pushing the hard conversations away with more sex.
the girl finds his hand and softly guides it under the hem of her shirt. carmen lets her, fingertips finding the softness of her skin. but when she tries to pull his hand up to her breast, he stops the attempt, fingers firmly pressing against her ribs.
the girl whines against his lips, moving closer.
carmy indulges in the taste of her for only a moment more before pulling back and saying her name. she ignores him, chasing his lips, hand moving to grasp his strong bicep.
“hey,” he turns his head and her kisses land messily along his jaw, “c’mon.”
she ignores him, knowing he’ll want to keep talking about california, pressing herself closer, wanting to indulge in the feeling of him without thinking about the end.
he calls her name again, voice coming out strained. she can feel his erection pressing against her, and keeps peppering kisses along his jaw and face.
“just make me feel good,” she begs against his skin, “please.”
carmen feels himself throb against her, wanting nothing more than to give in. knowing it won’t fix anything. knowing it’ll only complicate things more.
“thought you said all we do is fuck and fight?” his fingers grip into her, jaw tightening, feeling his resolve begin to crumble beneath her lips.
“mhm,” she breathes into his skin, “so fuck me again,” trailing her hand down his bare abdomen.
he grips her wrist before she can move any further down. her eyes come up to meet his, taking in the stern look on his face.
“i know you wanna,” she breathes, a small smile tugging at the edge of her lips, “can feel you throbbing against me.”
carmen harshly exhales, trying to keep his mind focused. she’s completely right, he thinks, he’s stiff as wood. but he has to stay strong, prove to himself he has control around her.
“stop fucking around. i wanna talk to you.” his voice comes more sharply than he means.
the girl stiffens at his tone, pulling away to sit up and retreat. he doesn’t release her wrist.
“let me go,” she tells him.
“no. we’re gonna fuckin’ finish this,” his eyebrows furrow, “i didn’t even know you weren’t coming back until now.”
“i don’t wanna talk about it anymore.” her throat feels tight.
“no? just want me to make you feel better? that all this is to you?” he can’t help the harshness of his tone.
“carm, i-”
“y’know i’ve never fuckin’ felt this way about anyone? never said ‘i love you’ to anyone but you?” his nose scrunches, eyes appearing glossy.
“we’ve only known each other for a few weeks.” her tone comes hushed as her chest painfully tightens.
“yeah, well, i know you enough to know that this is real. that i don’t even-” a sigh, “ i don’t want anybody else but you.”
“everything you’re saying is just gonna make it harder when i leave.” her voice breaks.
his furrowed brows soften at the sound, releasing her wrist. she says seated on the bed, trying to take deep breaths and stave off the hot tears that threaten to form.
“fuck, i-” he pauses, harshly rubs his hand over his face, taking a moment before meeting her eyes again and saying her name. “i like you. a lot.”
“i know. i like you too, carm.” she rubs the tears away harshly.
“so why can’t we just…enjoy it? while you’re still here? go all out on this?”
she stares at him blankly for a second as a cue to elaborate.
the man exhales and shakes his head, trying to piece together what to say. he can’t seem to find the words. she thankfully cuts in.
“go all out on this?” she asks.
he nods.
“like, you wanna be my fuckin’…. boyfriend?”
carmen can’t help the small smile that flashes across his face at the title. he tries to turn his head to hide it but she catches it, playfully shoving his arm. his smile turns to a chuckle.
“shut up,” she grins, wiping the last stray tear away, “you so wanna be my boyfriend.”
he bring his arms to rest behind his head, staring up at the girl with a lazy smile. he studies her smile. her pretty face. they way in which she’s leaned in closer.
“fuck yeah, i do. you kidding me?”
her eyebrows raise at how assertively he says it. her head falls back, and she begins to laugh. partially out of joy and partially out of disbelief. the sound is hearty and sweet, and carmy finds himself wishing he’d make her laugh more.
the girl leans over him, smile still gracing her face, and she plants a tender kiss against his lips.
carmen gazes dreamily at her as she sits back up and tucks her hair behind her ears. her face is flushed, and she’s wearing an expression he can’t quite read. they keep staring at each other silently.
“this is gonna be a bad idea, huh?” she asks after a moment.
“why?”
“why wouldn’t it be?” her eyes take in his handsome face. she thinks about how hard it’s gonna be to leave.
“well…i like you,” he clears his throat, “a lot. actually i’m kind of fuckin’ crazy about you.”
her gaze softens at this. he continues.
“and i’m very attracted to you. and we, uh… we have great sex…”
“yeah, we do,” she concedes, “these are all good points.”
“so then, you’re my girlfriend.”
“carmy…” she sighs, pausing. thinking of what to say. “i don’t like it here. i’ve felt homesick for the past year. i’m really not coming back.” her voice is quiet.
“yeah.” he nods, clearing his throat, “i know you’re not.” he knows, but it’s still hard to be reminded of.
“so, you’re gonna be okay with that?”
“i mean…i’m not okay with it, but i’ll deal with it if it means we get to spend these next few weeks together.”
she thinks for a moment, studying his genuine expression.
“okay…but if we do this, we have to promise each other that we’re not gonna get too attached. i really don’t want this to be messy. i like you too much.”
“it won’t be,” he assures, although it feels more like a prayer than a fact.
“okay,” she whispers, “then you’re my boyfriend i guess.”
his eyes light up a bit at this, and a boyish grin breaks his face.
“nice.”
“you’re stupid.” she laughs at his response, lightly shoving his chest again.
he reaches up and shoves her shoulder back playfully.
“you are.”
she scoffs and goes to shove him again, harder this time. he catches her wrist and pulls her forward so she can’t. the girl lets out a yelp of surprise, splaying out over him, face inches from his.
the simple display of dominance makes her feel dizzy, placing her free hand on his firm chest to center herself.
“why you like fighting so much, hm?” he asks, his breath ghosting over her lips, “you’re always testing.”
she tries to pull her wrist away, but his grip is firm.
“cause you’re…sexy when you’re mad,” she admits, eyes drooping to his lips.
“i’m sexy when i’m mad?” he has a slight mocking tone.
“mhm.” she can’t keep her eyes off his lips. “if i worked at your restaurant, i’d probably mess shit up on purpose just so you’d yell at me.”
“jesus,” he lets out a laugh, rubbing his free hand over his face, “what, you like when i get a little rough you?”
“n-no,” she blurts out. the way she averts her eyes immediately reveals her lie.
“yeah, i think you do,” he grins.
she goes to defend herself again, but shuts her mouth when she can’t think of anything to say. it is kind of true, anyways.
“shut up,” she pushes his face away from her gently, “or else i’ll break up with you.”
this makes him fully laugh. it’s a really nice sound. she watches the way his face crinkles with the big smile. when his laugh fades, he reaches for her chin and pulls her into a gentle kiss. she sighs into the feeling, settling her body closer to his.
“m’tired,” she mutters into his lips, “you exhaust me.”
carmy rolls his eyes at this. “c’mere.” he says, pulling the sheets back for her.
the girl slips in next to him and presses her back against his chest, resting her head on his bicep.
carmy reaches behind him to turn off the lamp, then wraps his arm securely around her. he plants a kiss on her neck and nuzzles his nose into her hair.
boyfriend.
he could get used to the title.
-
carmen gets home late from work on a cold night, late into november, crashing down onto the couch and basking in the silence of the apartment.
it was a long day in the kitchen, followed by meeting with a contracting crew to update some structural components after hours.
he had finally taken off after being there for almost 12 hours straight, begrudgingly leaving the renovations to be overseen by richie after having snapped at the crew for the third time.
he hears soft footsteps padding down the hall, and opens his eyes to see his girlfriend. his sweet, perfect, sexy fucking girlfriend. and it’s like a breath of fresh air, especially after not having seen her the past few days. and she’s wearing a tiny pair of shorts with a crop top that barely covers the curve of her breasts.
it’s like a reward, he thinks to himself, for all the bullshit he put up with today at the restaurant.
“welcome home,” she greets, walking past the couch and into the kitchen.
“hey,” he returns, eyes following her, gaze raking down her backside as she gets herself a glass of water.
“how was work?” she’s oblivious to the way he’s hungrily looking at her, oblivious to how pent up he feels.
“long,” he responds, eyes trailing up the length of her legs.
she lets out a hum of acknowledgement, turning to face him and taking a long sip of water. she catches him watching her intently, his arm stretched out over the back of the couch and neck craned.
“enjoying the view?” comes her tease.
“y’look good,” he defends.
“yeah?”
“mhm.”
the girl sets her glass down and begins to saunter to the couch. carmen’s eyes follow her closely.
“how good?” she stops in front of him.
“good enough to eat.” a small smile twitches the edge of his lip.
“yeah? wanna taste?” her hands come to her hips, and she pushes her chest out slightly.
fuck. he shamelessly looks her up and down. this was getting to be dangerous territory.
“do you wanna go to out to dinner this week?” he changes course, watching her brain stutter for a second.
“wh-dinner?”
he nods, resting his head against his hand. she pauses for a moment, studying his face.
“where?”
“wherever you want.”
“like…a date?”
“mhm,” a smirk tugs at the edge of his lips, “cause you’re, uh…my girlfriend now.”
a grin breaks her face. she thinks for a moment.
“can we go to your restaurant?”
“uh…yeah, i guess we can.”
“you guess?” she asks.
“yeah, we can go. but you’re probably gonna get a lot of, uh…attention.” he admits hesitantly.
“from who? your staff?”
he nods. they would probably lose their shit seeing him bring in a girl to eat dinner with. not to mention a girl that looks like her.
“okay,” she nods, “i’ll dress cute. you can help me pick.”
“yeah?” he likes the sound of that.
“mhm. whatever you want.”
carmen rubs his hand over his face then locks his eyes on her again. this girl is going to be the death of him.
“c’mere,” he beckons.
the girl gently steps forward, standing in between his spread legs. his hand comes to the back of her thigh as he sits forward, gazing up at her with those big blue eyes. he looks so handsome, and she can’t help but place her hands on his face and lean in to kiss him.
it’s gentle and sweet, and it only makes him want more, tightening his grip on her leg as she pulls away.
“you taste minty,” she says softly, still leaning over him, stroking her thumb across his face.
“you sure?” he’s fixated on her lips, “might wanna check again.” he definitely is minty from the nicorette gum he’d been chewing. but it’s worth a shot.
this makes her smile. and she does check again. decides it’s spearmint she tastes.
before she can pull back, carmy pulls her forward to straddle him. she makes a sound of surprise, but leans into it, wrapping her arms around his neck and continuing to kiss him.
“missed you today,” he slips in between kisses.
“liar,” she smiles against his lips.
his hands come to her hips, pulling her against him.
“nah, it’s true,” another kiss, “couldn’t stop fuckin’ thinking about you.”
“prove it.” she grinds against his bulge, making him tighten his grip.
“lay down,” he growls, pulling away. there’s a dark gleam in his eyes.
“or else what?” she challenges
he grabs both sides of her thighs and stands up with her still straddling his waist, turning and dropping her back onto the couch.
okay, he’s not in the mood for arguing anymore. good to know.
carmen cages her with his arms and kisses her deeply before trailing his lips down her jaw, neck, collarbones, only being stopped by the neckline of her shirt. he glances up at her, and she eagerly takes it off. he smiles at the silent act of obedience and continues kissing down her body, barely giving any attention to her breasts before his lips come to her stomach. the girl huffs at this, and he pretends to not notice.
“what are you doing?” she strains, watching as his lips come to rest just above the waistband of her shorts.
“m’getting my taste,” he replies casually
“carmy,” she chides, face becoming red and hot.
“what?” his fingers hook her waistband, “you embarrassed or something?” another kiss on her hipbone.
she is, inexplicably. and vulnerable and exposed and horny all at the same time. she hides her face in her arms instead of responding, feeling him slide the shorts down her legs, left clad only in a thin pair of panties.
carmy hooks his arms around her legs and pulls her closer to his mouth, pressing slow, firm kisses to her covered mound.
the girl lets out a labored breath at the heat of his lips against her clit as he begins to place wet, open mouthed kisses on her covered pussy. her cotton underwear becomes damp with his tongue, and she arches into the feeling with a sharp breath in.
carmy nuzzles the fabric and deeply inhales, letting out a low groan.
“ah- don’t do that!” the girl tries to clamp her legs shut out of embarrassment, but he holds them firmly in place and presses his face closer to her core, continuing to kiss and suck her through the fabric.
“you smell good,” carmy defends. “and these are cute,” he snaps the band of her panties.
she can hardly even process the statement before he starts sliding them down her thighs, bunching up the fabric and putting it in his pocket.
“hey, you can’t have those,” she strains.
there’s a delay in carmen’s response—too busy studying her soft pussy up close, lips gleaming with wetness, bundle of nerves twitching under his gaze.
“i’ll, uh…make it up to you,” his eyes stay fixed on the glorious sight upon him.
he leans in, flattens his tongue against her clit, and begins to gently lick.
the girl gasps, and her hands fly down to grab his hair as she releases a whine of pleasure.
the tantalizing licks to her clit are gentle. almost not enough. she tugs on his hair and tries to scoot forward, so he eases his tongue back.
when his eyes flicker to her face. her skin is flushed, lip clamped between her teeth, and she’s looking at him hungrily.
“y’so pretty,” he presses a kiss to her clit, “taste so fuckin’ good.”
her head falls back and she breathes out sharply. it’s too much to keep making eye contact with him. the slow, teasing licks are the only thing she can concentrate on.
“you gonna say thank you?” it’s more of a demand than a question, as he glides his finger over her entrance, collecting her syrupy wetness.
“n-no,” she struggles, face hot and red.
thank you, really? how embarrassing.
his tongue flicks over her clit repeatedly, his finger dips inside of her opening ever so slightly.
“no?” his lips close around her clit and he sucks, cherishing the sound of the first moan she allows to slip out.
“mmm,” she whines in response, beginning to pant at the feeling of his mouth.
“c’mon, be a good girl for me?” unlikely, but he asks anyways
“i am,” she argues, pulling his head towards her needy heat. he scoffs at this and continues to swirl his tongue around her clit.
“then say thank you.”
“carm, i’m not saying-ah thank you!” she cuts herself off with a moan as he sinks his finger inside of her. “y’welcome” he replies lowly, a smirk fighting to break his face.
“shut up. i didn’t-mmh! …mean it like that.”
she sits up onto her forearms, watching him curl his digit upwards inside of her, trying to keep it together.
“you’re so fuckin’ cute.” he growls, then dives forward to taste her again. his fingers curl rhythmically, tongue lightly swirling her sensitive clit, giving her barely enough stimulation to get by.
“more,” she whines, bucking her hips up slightly. he gives her a disapproving glance, so she adds a “please”.
“yeah?” he kisses her clit.
she frantically nods her head, trying to scoot closer to the man, trying to buck her hips against his hand.
carmen speeds up the pace of his fingers, sucking her clit into his mouth, free hand gripping onto her thigh.
“yeah,” she moans, “fuck, you’re so good at that.”
he preens at the praise and swirls her clit with his tongue, beginning to lap at her pussy. when he adds a second finger she cries out his name.
the view above him in combination with how sweet she sounds leaves his cock pulsing beneath his denim. he reaches down with his free hand, undoing his belt buckle and unzipping his pants. he just needs a little something to keep him from fucking her into the couch.
as he goes to wrap his fingers around his cock, he’s interrupted by the harsh buzz of his phone on the table.
the girl startles at this, and both of their eyes dart to the contact tag.
fucking richie.
he doesn’t stop the movement of his fingers, and leans back in to taste her again, ignoring the loud vibrations. he begins to softly stroke himself, groaning into her pussy.
“do you need to-ah… to get that?
“no,” he replies sharply, “y’taste too fuckin’ good to stop.”
the girl whimpers at the sound of his voice. at how low and raspy and hungry it sounds.
“let me taste,” her plead comes breathily.
carmen nearly groans at her request, more than willing to happily oblige. he licks a long stripe up her pussy, collecting her slick on his tongue, then leans over for a kiss. the girl eagerly (and messily) accepts his lips, swirling her tongue around his own, tasting her juices. she tasted herself before off his fingers, but it’s so much better off his tongue. she moans appreciatively and holds the sides of his face, pulling him in for deeper, sloppier, wetter kisses. the vibration of the phone stops, and his fingers continue their pace, curling into her heat, beginning to produce a squelching sound from the slick of her arousal.
“yes!” she cries into his lips, eyes nearly rolling back into her head.
“so perfect, y’know that?” he punctuates his words with the thrust of his fingers, gently biting at the girl’s bottom lip.
she’s only able to muster a moan in response, trailing her hand down her stomach to circle her neglected clit, babbling out a string of “yes yes yes yes.”
the phone vibrates harshly atop the edge of the table again, falling to the floor with a loud thud.
“fuck!” carmen exclaims, ripping his hand out of his pants. he stops curling his fingers inside of her and leans down to angrily grab his phone. the girl lets out a cry of protest.
“carmy m’so close, please,” she begs pathetically. grabbing at his arm.
“be quiet,” he hushes her, scooting back down to his previous position between her legs, “can y’do that for me?”
she nods eagerly, biting down on her lip.
carmen answers the call with a harsh “what?” and rolls his eyes at the voice that blares through the other line.
his fingers remain engulfed in her heat, and he begins to slowly curl them again. the girl lets out a sharp breath and he shoots her a warning look, mouthing a stern “quiet.”
he puts the call on speakerphone, then places it on her stomach, leaning down to softly lick her clit. the girls eyes widen in surprise. a loud voice begins to come through the phone.
“-that he was going to do it anyways, but i said ‘no way, carmy would have a fuckin’ bitch fit if we didn’t ask!’ so don’t answer the phone all fuckin’ mad, it’s not my fault,” the voice at the other line loudly rambles. carmy lifts his mouth from her pussy to respond
“jesus, richie, just look at the fucking floor plan.”
“you don’t think we tried that? the vents aren’t lining up with the floor pla- what is that sound?”
carmy curls his fingers a bit faster, pressing his tongue flat against her clit instead of answering. the girl gasps, convinced her lip is going to start bleeding from how hard she’s biting down on it.
his eyes flicker up to her, and she mouths a “what the fuck?”
like an asshole, he just grins in response.
“hello?? earth to asshole,” richie’s voice cuts in loudly, “what the fuck are you doing over there?”
carmen pulls away from her pussy with wet lips. he looks pretty, she thinks, like he has lipgloss on or something.
“m’eating dessert,” he responds truthfully. the girl’s faces grows incredibly hot.
“you wh- dessert? what is it, is it good?”
“fuck, richie, you-” he sighs, “forget about the vents,” he begins to rub gentle circles around her clit, “just have them do the pipes and go home. and stop fucking calling me.”
“you think i wanted to call you, you fuckin’ baby? it’s gonna be an extra $200 for them to come back tomorrow and…” he continues to ramble on. meanwhile the girl holds onto carmy’s shoulder, digging her nails in, trying to anchor herself. the feeling of his fingers plunging into her is incredible, and there’s an unexpected rush at the risk of being listened to. of being caught.
carmen laps at her pussy, then closes his lips around her clit and sucks gently. he keeps doing this rhythmically, curling his fingers up into her core, continually switching between gentle licks and slurping and sucking. it’s a particularly deep thrust of his fingers that make her release her lip from her teeth and cry out loudly.
“ah-!”
carmy’s eyes dart upwards at the moan, watching as she claps a hand over her mouth in shock.
“what the fuck was that?” richie’s voice sounds after a pause.
carmen, without a care that they could be caught, continues eating the girl out, giving her a look that says “you are so getting it.”
“hello?? are you watching porn or something, you fuckin’ weirdo?”
he rolls his eyes at the accustation, why would he be watching porn while on the phone?
“no, i’m not watching fucking porn, richie. finish the vents tomorrow, i’m not arguing about this anymore. goodnight.” he grows increasingly impatient, and it reflects in the quickened pace of his fingers.
“wait, wait, one more thing-”
“fuck, what?!” carmen snaps.
the girl lets out a sound of exasperation, coming up on a perpetual orgasm then being denied every time he removes his mouth. the pressure is growing to be unbearable, and she softly whines a “carmyy.”
“i know, baby, i got you,” he whispers back, barely loud enough for her to hear. he brings his mouth to suck on her clit again while richie continues yapping about the fucking vents. fuck the vents.
carmy just watches the girl’s face, tuning out the voice from the phone. he studies how flushed she is—from her cheeks all the way down to her chest. how she seems like she’s barely holding on. how her legs begin to tremble. how she tries desperately to keep from making noise, pressing her lips together firmly, eyes screwed shut, breathing ragged.
the wet, squelching sound from her pussy begins to sound again, juices flooding down his fingers, soaking his hand. it feels unbelievable and she begins to lose patience.
“carm, hang up,” she cries, much louder than she means to. richie’s voice stops in its tracks.
“are you f-what the hell are you doing?” he asks, “who is that?”
“none of your fuckin’ buisness,” carmy snaps, “the central vent is the one that’s the most fucked up, so get it sealed and go the fuck home. and don’t fucking call me again.”
“yeah, yeah, whatever. you have fun over there, assh-” carmy hangs up the phone and tosses it onto the floor.
“what the fuck, carm?” she asks exasperatedly, face fully flushed.
“you’re not very good at staying quiet.”
“you were- ah!” she loses her sentence as he dips back down to swirl her clit with his tongue.
“i was what?” he mutters into her wetness, slipping his free hand back into his pants.
“you were doing that!” she cries, tangling her fingers in his curls.
“it feel good?” he laps at her cunt, rhythmically curling his fingers.
“yeah,” she cries, “please don’t stop again. please.”
a small smirk breaks on his face at how nicely she’s able to ask, even after being tormented with interruptions moments ago. he rewards her by continuing his steady pace, keeping everything constant, coaxing an orgasm out of her.
he squeezes the head of his cock, stroking the length of it faster now. she tastes so good, and the sounds she’s making are so pretty, it’s easy to lose himself in the pleasure.
she bucks her hips against his face, getting his nose wet. her grip on his hair tightens. her body feels hotter, hotter, hotter and-
“carm-!” she gasps, “fuck, baby, that’s so good. m’gonna cum. please keep doing that pleasepleasepleasebabyyesyesyes,” she babbles, grinding her hips against his face, practically riding his fingers which curl so deliciously inside of her. the man has to force himself to not stop and make a snarky comment about how cute she sounds when she’s all fucked out like this .
with a final few curls of his fingers and another swirl of his tongue, she’s coming completely undone. her head falls back and she rides out the orgasm shakily.
he bucks his hips into his hand with fervor, groaning into her pussy as he feels himself approaching an embarrassingly easy climax.
she clenches around his fingers, and he wriggles them as deeply as he can, swirling her clit with his tongue.
the girl lets out a cry, feeling herself be pushed far past her peak, hand flying down to grab his wrist.
“ah-carm, s’too much.”
“you can take it, yeah?” he growls, rutting into his hand. he’s so close. just needs to taste her for a little longer. there’s a hot pulse surging throughout his body.
the girl’s breathing becomes loud, a rapid inhale exhale inhale exhale.
at the labored sound, he takes some mercy on her and stops moving his fingers, focusing solely on lapping at her throbbing clit. his cock twitches in his hand, and with a few final frenzied pumps, he cums into his palm.
“fuck,” he groans, resting his head on her pelvis for a moment. the two of them bask in the post-orgasm high, catching their breaths. carmen’s jaw aches a bit. he plants one last kiss on her oversensitive clit, then pulls away, easing his fingers out slowly.
“kiss me,” she pleads breathily, feeling slightly dizzy from the orgasm.
“yeah? wanna taste yourself again?” his voice is low, kind of raspy.
she nods eagerly.
he leans over and, to her surprise, shoves his fingers in her mouth, swirling them around her tongue, making sure she gets every drop she left behind. the girl enthusiastically cleans his fingers, taking them deeply into her mouth.
the moment he eases them out, he dives into her lips hungrily, shoving his tongue in her mouth, tasting the heavenly mix of her saliva and arousal.
she grabs his face and licks her cum from the side of his lips, from his chin, gathering it before kissing him frantically again.
“mm, thank you,” she mutters against his lips sweetly.
“y’welcome.” he loves how she thanks him.
the taste is intoxicating, and he’s tempted to lick her pussy again just so the both of them can continue to indulge. but there’s a sticky mess on his hand and the inside of his boxers, so he pulls away from her lips, and grabs a tissue from the box on the coffee table.
the girl’s eyes widen in surprise as he eases his cum-covered hand out of his boxers.
“is that- did you..?”
he wipes the white substance off his hand, small small teasing the edge of his lips.
“uh…yeah. that was, um… that was really hot,” he admits.
“yeah, except the part where you put me on the phone with your employee.”
“nah…” he shakes his head, a smirk on his face, “i think you liked that.”
“wha-no i did not,” her eyes widen, “it was so embarrassing.” it was embarrassing, but it really turned her on—not that he needs to know that.
“embarrassing?”
“yes, embarrassing! get that dumb grin off your face, it was!”
this only makes him smile harder, beginning to laugh.
“yeah? that why you soaked my fuckin’ fingers?”
she sits up and reaches for her tank top, a bashful expression on her face.
“no. that’s just because it felt good.”
“you were squeezing me like crazy trying to stay quiet,” he continues to try and provoke her, liking how feisty she becomes.
“give me my panties back.” the girl rolls her eyes and ignores his statement.
“what panties?” he asks cluelessly.
“carmy.”
“yeah, baby?”
she scoffs and mutters a “whatever” before standing up and slipping on her shorts. pantiless. there’s a creeping blush on her face as she wonders what he even wants them for.
“so, tomorrow?” he asks before she can walk away, “for our date?”
she pauses, then nods.
“but we’re not going to your restaurant.”
“why not?” there’s a small smirk on his face.
she gives him a look that says, because you just ate me out on the phone with the guy that would probably be serving us, dumbass, but stays quiet, beginning to walk to the stairs
carmen lets out a chuckle, and stands to follow her after cleaning his hand off. he hooks the waistband of her shorts and pulls her back. hands coming to her hips to steady her, his chest flush against her back.
“c’mon, don’t be like that,” he leans down to kiss her neck. she can feel his smirk against her skin, “you hungry? y’eat yet?”
she shakes her head no, closing her eyes at the sensation of his kisses.
“no you didn’t eat or no you’re not hungry?” he asks, nipping the skin below her earlobe.
“both,” she exhales, leaning back against him, her hands coming overtop his. she suddenly notices how big they are splayed out over her hips.
“you haven’t eaten dinner yet?” he stops kissing her.
“m’not hungry,” she breathes, “keep kissing me there.”
he removes his hands from her hips and steps back. she lets out a noise of disappointment and turns to face him with a pout. he doesn’t see this, though, already walking to the kitchen and turning on the light to make her something.
“carmy,” she calls, following him, “it’s late. let’s just go to bed.”
he ignores her, opening their cabinets to retrieve a box of spaghetti.
“hey,” she grabs his arm, leaning to meet his eyes, “come on. i wanna cuddle.”
“we will. but i’m gonna make you dinner first.” his voice is firm. he pulls his arm away from her and reaches down to grab a pot.
he’s so demanding. but the gesture makes her feel incredibly affectionate towards the man, so it’s hard to be mad at.
as he fills the pot with water, the girl snakes her arms around his waist and hugs him from behind, pressing herself flush against his back.
“thank you,” she mumbles into his shirt, taking a deep breath of their shared laundry detergent. her hand sneaks under his shirt and she drags her fingers into the deep cut of his v line.
carmen reaches his hand behind him, caressing her hip without saying anything in response.
she pulls away after a moment and he puts the pot of water on to boil.
“you eating enough?”
his question catches her off guard.
“i- what?”
“you heard me.” he crosses his arms.
she stares at him for a moment, studying his tightly set jaw. the way it twitches a bit.
“yeah, i am.”
“yeah?” he looks like he doesn’t believe her.
and maybe she had been a bit forgetful lately, missing breakfast, oftentimes coming home too tired to make dinner and opting for a snack instead. she didn't think he had been so observant, though.
“yes.” her tone is quiet.
he just stares at the girl silently, striking blue eyes boring a hole into her. she crumbles under his gaze.
“i’ve just been…stressed. i don’t know. haven’t had much of an appetite.”
“what are you stressed about?”
“going back home i guess,” she admits quietly, shuffling on her feet.
he doesn’t respond, giving her the opportunity to elaborate without pressure.
“i just- it’s gonna be hard. y’know when i told you my mom and i have a complicated relationship?”
he nods, and she continues.
“yeah, that was like…understatement of the year.”
he nods, a knowing look on his face.
“yeah, no. i, uh…i know exactly what you mean.” he really does.
“and um, she’s sick. like, not entirely there,” she points to her head, “so she gets really mean. but then she can also be the nicest, most motherly person. its just…really unpredictable.”
it was almost uncanny, the way in which he pictures donna as she gives her description.
“i, uh…yeah. i get it,” he clears his throat, “i’ve dealt with someone like that my whole life.” he intently locks eyes with her, wishing he could say more to alleviate her dread.
“how did-how do you deal with it?” she asks quietly, after a moment.
“i, uh…i don’t really?” he rubs his neck, letting out a sardonic chuckle, “i haven’t talked to her in…months probably.”
“really?”
“yeah, i’ve, um…been kind of an asshole, actually. my sister is really the only one that deals with her.”
“you’re not an asshole,” she locks eyes with him, “well, sometimes you are. but not cause of that. that’s more like a…i dunno, a defense response.”
he laughs at her bluntness.
“so i am an asshole, just not for that?”
“correct.”
“how am i an asshole?”
“you’ve been trying to make me jealous since i got here.”
“not trying. it actually worked very well.” he has a stupid smile on his face when he says that.
“shut up!” she laughs, shoving her hands against his chest as hard as she can. he barely moves from it, grabbing both her wrists firmly with an amused look on his face. she struggles against his grip, trying to shake the feeling of arousal that comes with how easily he’s able to overpower her.
“why’re you so fiesty, huh?” he grins, pulling her closer.
“cause you’re a fucker, that’s why.” she tries again to pull her arms back, but to no avail. her face feels hot, and she becomes hyper aware of the fabric touching her skin, the hair on her neck, the tingle of the rough grip on her wrists. his face is much closer now, and she fights the urge to lean forward and indulge.
“yeah?”
“mhm,” her response overlaps his.
“what are you gonna do about it?” he mocks, “huh?”
her eyes flicker down his face. he has a stupid fucking smirk plastered on his lips. fuck, she wants to kiss him.
an idea pops into her head.
the girl leans forward, gently ghosting her lips over his own. her tongue darts out and she licks his bottom lip, then sucks it into her mouth and bites softly. then she gives him a soft and gentle barely there kiss.
she feels his grasp on her wrist loosen, so she splays her hand over his chest.
her lips hover over his for just a moment more, and then she shoves him.
carmy stumbles back slightly, less prepared that time, hands coming behind him to steady himself on the counter. when he meets her eyes again he has a dark glint in his eyes. almost like anger, but hungrier.
the next thing she knows, he yanks her into his chest, grabs her hip and roughly bends her over the countertop.
she just thinks to herself, finally.
carmen tugs her hips back until her forearms fall to the counter and she arches her spine. until she’s flush with his pelvis and he’s pressing his achingly hard cock against her ass.
“such a bratty fuckin’ girl,” his tone is rough, strained.  “you know that? fuckin’ had it with you.”
“i’m n-” she cuts herself off with a gasp as he harshly tugs the waistband of her shorts up, wedging the fabric between her cheeks and giving himself a nice view of the supple skin.
“you’re what?” he smooths his hand over her ass, watching her arch into his touch. watching as she opens her mouth to say something, then close, staying silent and shuffling her hips against his groin.
carmen lets out a groan—half frustration, half arousal, smoothing his hands over her hamstrings and firmly squeezing the soft flesh before trailing back up to her ass.
“you doing this on purpose?” both hands grab her ass, kneading, pulling her closer against his hardness.
no response. she can’t, not without moaning.
“hmm?” he shoves his hips forward into her, “you trying to get a reaction outta me tonight? or are y’really just that fucking bratty?” the hand gripping her flesh squeezes harder.
“i-mmh…that-…keep doing that.” she chooses to ignore his question.
“answer me.”
still nothing.
“you want me to spank you? cause that’s what’s gonna happen if you keep this shit up.”
his words make her stomach flip. of course she does. she hides her smile in her arms and stays quiet, pushing back into him. hoping he’ll stick to his words.
carmen raises his hand, and cracks it down on her right cheek, grabbing the flesh immediately after to ease some of the sting.
“ah-!” she grips the countertop, arching her spine. his hand leaves behind a hot, tingling sensation, flooding through her body like a wave.
“y’okay?” he tries to sound caring but his tone comes out rough, heavy with arousal.
“yeah.” better than okay. incredibly horny, actually.  “that hurt?” his hand smooths over the reddening skin.
“no,” she shakes her head, pushing back against him again, “thought you were gonna spank me.”
she cranes her neck trying to get a look at the man. his pupils are blown, face is rosy, and when she meets his eyes there’s a dangerous glint to them.
he wedges her shorts up higher, exposing more of her ass, then smacks her in the same spot without warning. harder this time.
“fuck-!” she gasps sharply. it hurts, but in a way that has her pressing her thighs together desperately to try and get some relief.
“can you take one more, pretty girl?”
“yeah,” she whines enthusiastically, shuffling her hips back against his groin.
“yeah? y’so tough, baby.” his voice has a slight mocking edge to it as he does everything in his power to not yank the shorts down her legs and fuck her into the counter.
“just…shut up and do it.” she tries to mask her eagerness, but it doesn’t work very well.
he scoffs, and rubs his large hand over her supple skin. when he feels her relax, he raises it and cracks down on her other cheek.
she partially muffles the loud cry by biting down on her forearm, feeling a few tears begin to form in her eyes.
“you have such a cute ass, y’know that?” he squeezes both of her cheeks in tandem, pulling them apart, pushing them together, “can already see the handprints forming.” his voice is low and rough.
“wh-really?” her brain feels fuzzy with desire as she tries to switch gears.
“you wanna see?”
she nods her head frantically, butterflies arising at the thought.
carmen pulls his phone out of his back pocket and holds it over her, snapping a picture with a low groan.
“look back at me,” he demands softly.
she does, peering over her right shoulder to see him holding the camera facing her. the embarrassment makes her face feel hot, but she lets him take the picture anyway, looking into the lense with a small pout on her face.
“so fucking pretty,” he growls, lowering the phone and clicking on the picture he took, admiring it for a moment before turning the phone so she could see.
it was quite the picture—cherry red handprints over her round ass, shorts wedged up so far they look like underwear, the curves of her body accentuated by the angle.
carmy swipes to the left and reveals the photo of her looking back at the camera, all flushed cheeks and pouty lips and misty eyes. she knows she should probably feel embarrassed, but seeing herself like that just makes the throbbing between her legs intensify.
carmen turns off the phone and puts it back in his pocket. he leans over and grabs her face, studying her with furrowed brows before leaning down kissing her firmly.
“you okay?” another kiss, “really?”
she nods, eagerly reciprocating the kiss, moaning a soft “mhm” against his lips.
“didn’t hurt too bad?” his brows are furrowed, their movements beginning to quicken. she slips her tongue into his mouth and she begins to kiss him faster, losing herself in his lips.
carmy reciprocates for a moment before muttering a gentle “hey,” pulling back a bit, “answer me.” his gaze flickers over the sheen on her cheeks, left behind from a few stray tears.
her eyes flutter open, fighting the urge to not chase his lips.
“it didn’t hurt,” she affirms hazily, “felt good. can you put it in? please?”
“jesus, christ” he groans, dipping back in for another kiss, “want me to fuck you? needy fuckin’ girl.”
she nods with a small, bashful smile and softly nips at his bottom lip, fighting the urge to bite harder.
carmen straightens to his previous position behind her and slips his fingers beneath the hem of her bunched up shorts. he pulls them to the side to reveal her glistening pussy, letting out a sharp exhale at the sight. he’s about to reach out and touch her when she gasps.
“carm, the water.”
it angrily bubbles and pours down the sides of the pot, sizzling when it splashes onto the flames.
“fuck,” he pulls away from her, quickly moving to turn off the burner. “stay right there.”
and she would’ve, had another fucking phone not started ringing.
the girl cries out his name frustratedly, just wanting him to come back over and fuck her brains out.
“it’s not mine this time,” carmy defends, adjusting the tent of his pants. he’s so hard it’s almost painful, increasingly eager to get back behind her.
she huffs and straightens, readjusting the uncomfortably wedged-up shorts as she follows the sound of the ringer. when she retrieves her phone from between the couch cushions, her heart drops at the contact name.
mom.
in a single moment it’s like the air gets sucked from her lungs. her skin stops tingling with that warm heat, body stops buzzing with pleasure—all the good feelings flood from her suddenly.
carmen wipes down the stove, drying the water that had boiled over before refilling the pot and turning the heat back on. his roommate talks in a hushed, urgent tone in the living room, and he tries to refrain from curiously moving closer and eavesdropping. curiosity almost gets the better of him, but a few more moments pass and he hears delicate footsteps approaching.
he looks up, and catches the sight of her tear-streaked face. her big, sad eyes. a pit forms in his stomach.
“everything okay?” he’s unable to hide the concern in his tone.
she doesn’t say anything. she can’t. so she just rushes forward and crashes into him, wrapping her arms around his neck and hugging him tightly.
“hey,” he soothes, tightly reciprocating the hug, “what happened?” he kisses the side of her head.
it takes her a minute before she’s able to verbalize, just wanting to nuzzle herself as far into his chest as she can, wishing she could just disappear into him completely.
he says her name, pulling away slightly to get a look at her sweet, sad face. “what’s goin’ on, huh?”
“i’m going back next week,” it’s hard to make eye contact with him, so she looks to the side with blurry vision.
“what?” it’s like a punch in the stomach.
“i-…my mom,” she sighs exasperatedly, “she’s just getting worse,” at this point the tears stream down her cheeks.
he cups her face with both hands, wiping them away with his thumbs. he just stares at her, not knowing exactly what to say to make this shitty situation better.
“i’m-….fuck, i’m sorry.” he puts his forehead on hers, “m’so so sorry.” he doesn’t know exactly what he’s apologizing for—the state of her mother or the dread of her sudden departure. either way, there’s this overwhelming feeling of loss trying to wrap his head around how soon next week really is.
“m’gonna go to bed,” she mutters, tightly closing her eyes to stop the flow of tears, nose brushing against his.
“you don’t wanna eat with me?”
she gives a small shake of her head, having lost her appetite at the news.
carmy wants to push it. but she just looks so tired and sad, he figures it’s better not to. his hand comes to the back of her neck, and he pulls her into a bear hug, kissing the side of her head.
“go wait in my bed for me,” another kiss, “i’ll be up in a bit.”
“i need a shower,” she mutters into his neck, “you made me all…sticky.”
he can’t help but let out a humorous exhale, finding a small bit of relief from her words.
“yeah? sorry about that.” he has a soft, barely there smile on his face.
“you know i love you, carmy?”
her quiet confession stops his train of thought. stops the noise of it all. it kind of feels like it even stops his heart, just for a second.
it was something she hadn’t yet said to him without the hazy high of lust. something she had been waiting on until it felt real.
carmen eases away from the tight hug, getting a good look at her face. she’s entirely genuine, brows furrowed and eyes glossy, searching his expression for reassurance. he dips forward and kisses her softly, hand caressing her cheek.
“i know,” his thumb traces along her jaw, “i love you too.”
she turns her head to the side and kisses his hand.
“you gonna come to california with me?” she softly bites his thumb.
“yeah, baby.” he nods. it’s a lie, and they both know that.
sometimes it’s easier to fantasize about what could be than accept what never will.
-
it’s far too late into the night by the time carmen has eaten and showered. he blearily trudges down the hall and pushes his door open. and like a breath of fresh air, there she was. cuddled up in his blankets, face buried in his pillow. it feels incredibly domestic, and he finds himself wishing he could come home to this every night of his life.
carmen eases into bed slowly as to not wake her, shuffling his body against hers. then he just watches her for a bit.
he watches her chest rise and fall. watches the way her lips slightly part with her heavy breaths. she looks so peaceful unconscious, like there isn’t a worry in the world.
he thinks about how selfishly he wants to keep that placating expression on her face. wants to keep her to himself. thinks about how selfishly he wishes she didn’t even have a family to return to—how fucked up is that?  it’s almost surreal, staring at her sleeping form, mourning her loss while she’s still in front of him. tangible and soft and beautiful and sleeping right there.
carmen reaches out and strokes her cheek at the thought, then leans in to press a gentle kiss to her resting lips. it doesn’t make him feel better like he thought it would.
he turns off the light and pulls her in close.

How are you dealing with Tarlos being over? I’m seriously not good. It helps that Ronen said they are best friends off screen but knowing that we will never see them together again is really making me sad.
Hello! Thank you for this question. Firstly, a huge internet hug for you because I really feel your pain 💔❤️❤️❤️❤️ and this is a topic we're all grappling with I'm sure. In terms of Tarlos as characters, I'm trying not to look at it as them being totally 'over' because they and the other characters can live on through art and fanfic, just like they did during the hiatuses between seasons. We didn't need 'new' canon content to keep creating. We just...kept creating. Although this was perhaps fuelled by looking forward to the show’s return, I don't see why that has to be all that different now. There are fandoms that revolve around single books, single movies, and thrive on a lot less content than we have to work with.
However, I appreciate that you might not be a reader of fic, and indeed even if you are…..The show itself and the physical portrayal of these characters is certainly ending far too soon, and honestly I fucking hate that. I feel sad in my body. I'd go as far to say I'm actually bitter about it, and bitterness is a horrible, horrible feeling! I keep thinking – if we hadn't had a season 3, we'd have missed out on so many amazing moments on screen, culminating in the proposal. If we hadn't had a season 4, we'd have missed out on the soulmates scene and the wedding! No season 5, no seeing TK being flung onto a dresser, no dancing at the party, none of the Enzo/Jonah/Carlos' investigation stuff that I'm LOVING. Which leaves me with this strong ache as I wonder what we are missing out on with no season 6, 7, 8...
So, the silver lining is that the fandom will make the best out of a shit situation creatively, but it is a shit situation in reality. I think it's absolutely fine for us to mourn this loss and be there for each other, because those of us who profoundly love this show and Tarlos are all in it together and understand the magnitude. I am certainly in a weird state of grief not related to death but related to this different kind of loss, and there will always be part of me hurting over this thing I love so much. I only found the show after season 3 and it just doesn't feel like I've had enough time with it. I haven’t had enough fun!
I hope we do get to see Ronen and Rafa reunite again from time to time. They’ll be at the Paris convention in December, and maybe others along the way if their schedules allow. I was lucky enough to go to the one in June last year and Ronen, Rafa, Natacha and Sierra certainly did appear to be very close irl, so definitely do take heart in that – it’s a reason to believe we’ll get at least glimpses of them together going forward.
So yeah. I’m finding good things where I can in all this, but the headline is that I really am sad and struggling too, and I’m so sorry you are and I hope you’re able to fill your day with things that help you to feel a bit better. I hope everyone who reads this is able to do the same.

couples quiz
Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary: you and marcello are the featured guests on the upcoming episode of the GQ "couples quiz." requested by anonymous. marcello x female!singer reader. this ended up being quite long, but i hope you enjoy! <3
“and there we go! you look stunning.” your makeup artist said to you.
“thanks to you.” you smiled at them. you were on set with GQ, getting ready to film a video with them. they’d invited you and marcello you partake in one of their “couples quiz” videos, and the two of you jumped at the opportunities.
you were led to the set, taking your seat as you waited for marcello to join you. he smiled at you has he walked over to you, pressing a kiss to your cheek before taking his seat across from you.
“you guys ready?” the producer asked, and you both nodded.
“so ready.” you said with a smile, as some members from the crew handed you your question cards.
they counted down, and began rolling, you and marcello putting on your best faces and beginning the video.
“hey there, i’m y/n l/n,”
“and i’m marcello hernández,”
“and this is the GQ couples quiz.” you said in unison.
“alright, who wants to start?” you asked.
“ladies first.” marcello said with a smile.
“well then, alright.” you settled the question cards in your hands, reading him the first one. “okay, this is a simple one to get us started. what is my favorite nickname for you?” you asked.
“you call me cello a lot. or cellito, if you’re feeling flirtier than normal. but you’re also very heavy on the babe or baby. sometimes honey, which i personally love.”
“hmm, good to know.” you laughed before moving on to the next question. “oh, this is a good one. what was the first song i ever played for you?”
“i don’t want to give too much away, because as far as i know, it’s unreleased, yeah?” he asked, and you nodded.
“it is.”
“but, i can say that you wrote it shortly after we made it official. so, almost four years ago. and, it’s about me.” he said, with a smirk to the camera.
“that is correct. at this point, i’m not sure i wanna release it, and instead just keep it between the two of us.” you said to the camera. you then moved on to the next question. “what is my favorite date we’ve been on?”
“ooh, i know this one real well, because you tell this story all the time to people we meet.” he laughed, and you blushed. “it was when we were first dating, we were both in LA for work, and had coinciding days off. i took you to griffith park, we had a picnic, and we made friendship bracelets for each other with our initials on them. then, after lunch, we drove up mulholland, parked at one of the overlooks, and laid on the hood of our car while we watched the sunset over the city. it was very romantic. that was the night i asked you to be my girlfriend.”
“i never told you this, but i’m sure i was already falling in love with you at that point. it was only like, a month or so after we started hanging out and talking, but i was already locked in.”
“honestly, so was i.” marcello said, echoing your sentiment with a smile.
“next question; what is my favorite sketch of yours?”
“you always tell me you have multiple favorites, and they change like, every month.” he laughed before answering.
“that is true, but i do have one all time favorite. one that i, without question, would top tier marcello sketches. and we’re not talking update features, because i love all of those. just live sketches.” you explained.
“okay, that helps me a bit. i’m gonna go with either fusion scientist, or the age of discovery.” he said.
“it is fusion scientist, but i’m only gonna give you half a point because you hesitated.”
“aw man.” he laughed.
“although, i do also love the age of discovery. there’s something about fusion scientist  that just always gets me. i had genuine tears in my eyes the first time i watched it, and am still bitter it was cut for time.”  you clarified.
“that one was really fun to perform. it was so ridiculous and goofy, but i loved it.” he explained.
“and thats why i love it too.” you said. “alright, next question. oh, this is a good one; what is my favorite gift you’ve given me?” you finished the question, and watched his eyes flit to your hands, landing on your ring finger on your left hand. he reached out to you, and you placed your hand in his, smiling as he pressed a kiss to the ring.
“this right here.” he said as you held your hand out to the camera for a close up. “i got you that ring on our first anniversary. it’s our birthstones in a heart shaped setting.”
“not only is it my favorite gift you’ve given me, but i think it’s my favorite gift i’ve ever gotten, ever.” you said. you finished out your questions, tallying up marcello’s score. “alright, we are sitting at a nice round 20 points.” you said to the camera.
“well, good for me.” he said with a laugh. “alright, my turn. first up, what sports did i play growing up?” he asked you.
“soccer was your main sport, and you played it throughout high school and college. but you also played baseball, and dabbled in golf, and sometimes fishing?”
“wow. yes to all of those. um, i don’t think i want to play this game anymore.” he laughed.
“hey, we’re only one question in. don’t get too discouraged.”
“next question; who has been my favorite host to work with so far on snl?”
“either pedro or benito.” you answered, and he nodded. “those were really big episodes for you, and i know you had a good time getting to write and work on pretty good sketches during those episodes.”
“those were both really good, and i enjoyed them both a lot. but, if i had to pick, i would pick benito over pedro.”
“oh, tea.” you gasped through a laugh.
“only because of the age of discovery sketch. that sketch being entirely in spanish, and all the love we got on it, it made me really proud. pedro was also part of that episode, so that still counts.” he explained. “what is my favorite food?” he asked.
“anything cuban or dominican. chuletas, tostones, literally anything else. you’re very easy to please.” you answered immediately. “c’mon give me a challenge.”
“yeah i should’ve skipped that one.” he laughed. “next one. oh, here’s a good one. what was i wearing on our first date?”
“you were wearing a dark blue cardigan, over a white t-shirt, with blue jeans, and white sneakers.” you answered. “i had a picture of us from that night as my phone wallpaper for a long time, it’s practically burned into my brain at this point.” you said. “do you remember what i was wearing?” you asked him
“you were wearing a black, like, lacy top, with a white skirt and black platform loafers.”
“actually,”
“what?!” he said loudly, feigning offense.
“no, i’m just kidding. that was right.” you laughed.
“i was about to be so mad.” he laughed. “alright, next one; where was our first kiss?” he asked.
“our first kiss was on the beach in miami. you were home, visiting family and some friends. you asked if i wanted to come see you, and of course, being as down bad as i already was, i immediately jumped on a plane with zero hesitation. we had just finished lunch, and we were hanging out on the beach near where you grew up. we were sitting there in silence, listening to the waves crash on the shore, when we turned to each other, and we kissed. i remember it being really awkward, and us almost missing?”
“i do remember that as well.” he laughed. “but look at us now, so it must not have been too terrible.”
“it was a first kiss, so you kinda expect it to be awkward. but it was good in the long run.” you said, and marcello nodded, smiling at you. before continuing through the next couple of questions.
“alright, i think this is my last one.”
“and, not to brag, but i am only one point behind you.” you said, raising an eyebrow at him.
“well, then this will count for two points.” he said, clearing his throat. “which one of us made the first move?”
“you did.”
“wow, that was fast.”
“you did! we were at an snl after party, after dua lipa’s episode. which, i was invited to by her, by the way.” you said, matter-of-factly. “we were both at the bar, waiting for our drinks, and made small talk. we hung out for a bit, and by the end of the night, you were already asking for my number. barely two days later, you were asking me to go out.”
“and you accepted without hesitation.”
“well, yes, but this isn’t about me.” you teased, and marcello rolled his eyes at you.
“well, that was my last question. our final scores are 21 to 20, y/n only getting extra points because i played multiple sports growing up.”
“and for that, i thank you.” you laughed.
you filmed the outro for the video, saying good bye and thanking the future audience for watching. there was a loud “CUT!” from behind the camera, and the producers and crew were thanking you and marcello for such a fun episode.
“thanks for having us! this was a lot of fun.” marcello said, and you nodded in agreement. the two of you headed out to your car, making your way to a nearby restaurant for lunch. you got your food, and sat down at a table, replaying the events of the afternoon.
“we should do more things like that. i know we pride ourselves on having quite a private relationship, but it was a lot of fun.” marcello said to you.
“it was! but i feel like youre just suggesting that so you can redeem yourself and let the people know that you know me better than i know you.” you said to him.
“no, why would you ever think that?” he said sarcastically. you just laughed and shook your head. the two of you finished your lunch, enjoying your meal and being with each other. truthfully, marcello knew you better than you knew yourself, and vice versa. and that made you happier than you could ever put into words.

Love Espresso
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Chapter Three: Grand Opening
Synopsis: after her breakup with Rafe and him kicking her out. Her best friend offers her a new job and a place to stay. But when Rafe comes back from Morocco. He realizes he’d made a grave mistake. Will Sofia go back to him? Or will she decide that her new life means more to her than him?
Sofia helped Liliana carry the big sign to the front. It wasn’t too heavy but she wanted to help regardless. Once they set it down, they smiled at the sign.
The sign read:
That’s that me espresso
“Cute.” Sofia comments, Liliana turns her head towards Sofia and grins brightly.
“Thank you, thank you.” Liliana fake bows, “Thank you Sabrina Carpenter for the song espresso.” A disheveled Hector comes running out the coffee shop. He’s out of breath but manages a smile on his face.
“I need you guys to try the tiramisu cake slices I just made. I think I’m going to send people to heaven and back.” Hector excitedly says, Sofia and Liliana make it back inside.
On the counter waits two perfectly made tiramisu cakes. They approach the counter. They were used to Hector bringing in pastries when he worked with them at the country club. So they knew how much of an amazing baker he was. But when they sank their teeth in this cake. It felt like colors exploded. Like the world became much brighter.
"Did you put drugs in this?" Liliana asks, her eyes blown as she continues to scarf down the cake. It was half way gone.
"Christ, who do you think I am?" Hector says incredulously. Sofia let out a laugh. She hadn't spoken to blown away by the tiramisu cake to speak.
"This is amazing, Hector. You weren't wrong about heaven and back." Sofia says. Hector beams at her, standing proudly.
"Te lo dije!" Liliana is cheering as she says this. Sofia finishes the tiramisu cake. She wants to lick the plate; but refuses to do it in front of them.
"Oh, business is definitely going to be blooming after this. I will take my praise now, thank you." Hector says, smiling brightly.
"Don't push it, Hector." Sofia says, Hector frowns jokingly. Then returns to the back, probably to make more cakes.
"Told you, helped him discover his dreams." Liliana points out. Sofia shakes her head.
“Your mind.” Sofia says. She goes to the back, thinking about taking another one of Hector’s cakes.

Rafe decides to do the first thing he can think of. Trying to see if he can find Sofia at the country club. When he arrives, his heart sinks. She is no where to be found. A part of him feels guilty. He'd been the one to tell her to quit. That he'll provide for her now. No more pogue shit.
She probably lost her job for good. He walks to a random worker. He sees the brunette pouring a kook a drink.
"Hey, is uh Sofia working here?" He asks her, the girl scrunches up her nose. Then her eyes widen, does she know him?
"No, Sof-Sofia doesn't work here anymore." The girl says, Rafe frowns visibly. Shock can't begin to describe how she feels.
"D-did she ever try to get her job back?" Rafe asks, the girls face hardens.
“And why do you care? Do you know her or something?” The girl says angrily, Rafe tries to keep his emotions in check. He doesn’t know why she’s being rude. He sneers at her.
“She’s my fiancé.” He blinks a couple of times. “My ex fiancé.” He mumbles.
“She doesn’t work here anymore. Scram.”The girl says angrily. Rafe’s jaw ticks, he doesn’t like the way the girl talks to him. Rafe tries to compose himself. Trying to not get too angry.
“Okay, fine.” He begins to walk away but turns back. “What’s your name by the way. I think I’ll need to talk to your manager about your attitude.”
The girl rolls her eyes but gives him her name. “It’s Catalina.”
With that, Rafe huffs and walks away. Vaguely feeling like that name was familiar.
Tumblr media
After a few more days, the coffee shop was finally open. They had a lot more customers than anticipated. But they managed rather smoothly. Liliana hired two college students and one high school student. Sofia typically running the register as she did when she was in the country club. It was nice, it was busy enough for her to keep her mind off of things. Especially off of Rafe. And the fact that he was back from Morocco.
“Welcome to Cozy Corner Brews. What can I get you today?” Sofia says brightly, Sarah looks at Sofia in shock. Sofias face remains the same, but internally she’s shocked as well.
“Hey Sofia.” Sarah says awkwardly, her eyes scanning Sofia. Her eyes falling on her apron. Then back up again.
“Uh hi, hi Sarah.” Sofia says, she taps anxiously on the counter. She isn’t sure what else to say. She waits until Sarah orders something to drink or eat.
“I didn't know you worked here." Sarah says, still eyeing Sofia. Sofia nods her head, she presses her lips together.
"Uh yeah, it's my best friends shop." Sofia taps her fingers gently on the counter. "Can I get you anything to drink? Anything to eat, we have a bunch of pastries."
"Uh, yeah yeah. Can I just get a tiramisu cake?" Sarah asks, she rubs her belly as she asks. Sofia is shocked to see that Sarah is visibly pregnant. Sarah notices and smiles.
"I'm five months. It was a shock to me too." Sarah says, she looks down at her stomach and smiles. "But I'm happy, I get to have this baby with John B. I couldn't be happier."
Sofia goes into the display to grab one of the tiramisu cakes. She looks around to see a couple of people reading as they drink their food. Others are on laptops, a few with neither just enjoying a cake or coffee drink.
Sofia can't help to feel a wave of jealousy overcome her. Not that she would want to be pregnant. Not right now, anyway. But that she had someone. She hated to admit how much she missed Rafe.
"Don't worry by the way, I won't tell Rafe I saw you. I'll keep it to myself. I'll let him find out on his own."
Sofia hands over the tiramisu cake that Sarah wanted, "Thank you." Sofia says. Sarah nods, tapping her card. Sofia hands over the receipt. Once Sarah leaves, Sofia feels like she can breath again.
Tumblr media
Liliana slammed the door to her car, Sofia getting out of the passenger seat. Sofia bringing the straps of her purse back to her shoulders.
“I’m so excited to be shopping with you!” Liliana squeals. “Just like olden times.”
A wave of guilt comes over Sofia, realizing how much time she would spend with Rafe; over her friends.
"Tj maax, here we come!" Liliana says again, "I want to make a little bar cart for the living room.”
As they walk in, Sofia made wanders off. She’d remembered coming in here, looking for things to buy for Rafe and her. When he’d told her to move in with him. It sent a pang of hurt coursing through her body. She tried to think of the now, but her mind wouldn’t let her. Trapping her in the then.
“Anything you’re planning on picking up?” Liliana asks, her voice dragging Sofia back to the present. Ariana grande plays through the speakers.
“Uh, maybe some new socks. I’ve been losing a lot of pairs lately. Oh and I need new underwear.” Sofia laughs.
“Oh my god, thanks for reminding me. I need some too.” They make it to the intimate section, Sofia lets out a sigh. She knows she can’t keep her thoughts in anymore.
“Do you think he’ll ever forgive me? Like- like he’ll just see that I didn’t mean to hurt him.” Sofia asks. Liliana puts down a pair of pjs back on the rack. Her eyes scanning Sofias face.
“Well, do you think Rafes the forgiving type?” Liliana asks. Sofia looks down at the ground. Tugging her lips behind her teeth.
“He would always get upset; about the way the kooks at the club talked about him.” Sofia said, Liliana nodded her head. Waiting for Sofia to continue.
“But that’s different, no?” Sofia asks, Liliana regards her for a moment.
“It is, your relationship with him was more intimate. He cared about you. I think you just need to— I hate to say it this way. But just face the music. He doesn’t seem like he’ll forgive you.” Liliana says, not trying to be harsh but what she says comes out bluntly.
Sofia tries to mask the hurt she feels. “Yeah, you have a point.” They continue shopping, Sofia trying to mask her pain. She did this to herself. She had no room to be upset.

Note
I followed your blog from a search on chastity keyholders. I have not read everything (you answer a lot of questions!) but it looks like you keep your husband permanently chastitzed for years? has he ever asked to be unlocked? did you ever unlock him if he asked? and what would you do if he told you that he didn't want to be locked in chastity anymore? would you just unlock him?
I do get this question a lot... I think that a lot of men have a hard time understanding that for my husband and I, in our relationship him being locked stopped being a game a long time ago. That does not mean it's not still fun... it's amazing for the both of us! But him being locked up for me is part of a commitment that he has made, and that commitment is now very important to our relationship... in fact, it's now an essential part of our relationship in such a way that I do not think that it would be the same without it.
Many years ago after we had been playing with keeping him locked up I came to the realization that having the control over his sexuality was exciting to me. But it wasn't just exciting, it gave me confidence about myself and about our relationship. I told him that I wanted 100% control over that part of him. He agreed, knowing that I could keep him locked up for any length of time, from weeks to months, or even longer. He committed to that and has never once asked to go back on that. And even during times when he was not locked, I do not think that he broke that promise to me. That level of commitment and the strength he needs to continue is very sexy, but also very inspiring to me. How many men would voluntarily give up their orgasms because their wives asked them?
So... when men used to ask me this question I used to feel uneasy thinking about it. My husband is almost always attentive and affectionate with me, and he treats me like a queen. He is never too busy to give me some affection, or even to make me a cup of tea while I'm watching tv at night. I love how he has to keep his passion restrained (like he has a choice! 😂). I love how he will snuggle with me in bed every night so I can go to sleep, and how he wakes up in the morning to hold me, and I can feel his hot cage pressing against my ass. I never, ever wanted to think about that not happening. I used to think that if he did ask, I would do my best to talk him out of it. And in fact, I have honestly told him that if he could not wear his cage anymore I would probably still deny him intercourse because I can see how much positive it has brought to our relationship.
But now that we are coming up onto 7 whole years of this, I am more confident that my husband never would ask to end this. Not only does he know how happy this makes me, he also enjoys his role as my devoted knight. He has grown to love the feeling of arousal that he has for me every day. He literally thanks me for keeping him locked because of how it allows him to focus on me and my pleasure. And the longer this goes on... the longer he stays locked for me... the more sure I am that he would never want to go back to how things used to be.

you ever just think abt Them
the mall video, the way moon followed sun, the way he immediately decided the yellow yogurt dispenser was for sun because it had his colors, the way he gave him a coconut popsicle because he wanted sun to be able to try it as well.
the way he knew sun wanted to buy things, and immediately gave him all the coins he found in the mountain so he could buy whatever he wanted. ("Moon! I want to try everything, Moon."
"Okay.")
the laboratory video, with how excited he was to show the things he made off to sun, the way he allowed sun to use them on him in turn for the fact he used them on him.
("Moon, we can't just become a common crimina-- what's this?"
"A chocolate popsicle."
"A...chocolate popsicle?"
"I made it."
"Oh! Like a homemade popiscle? :0"
"Yep."
"Oh my goodness, thank you Moon- I knew you cared about me deep down!"
"Sure.")
-.-
("Don't worry. If you ask, I can make things for you, too.")
the video where they first met monty, where moon told sun that he'd be the one to lie for him, because sun wasn't comfortable doing so himself.
another thing i may note with this episode is that monty never once physically hit sun; he hit moon because he was in the way, but other than verbal threats, he never actually did anything. this carries on to later episodes, too, i believe.
("We can't lie to people, Moon!"
"Yes we can."
"Why?"
"I can. You don't have to; I will.")
he treats FREDDY better than he does SUN. which i find particularly strange because both sun and freddy have the same exact traits.
they're considered the dumb ones, too kind, a bit naive. but in the episode they upgraded freddy, moon was so soft towards him while threatening sun the moment before
("Your joints are connected by screws, I will take off your limbs."
"Freddy, help me! He's threatening to kill me!"
"Uhh..don't kill him, please."
"Freddy, you are a sweet baby boy, move out of the way.")
sometimes i think about how bewildered and offset sun seemed when moon was suddenly being nice to him, the way while happy about it he still chose to keep his distance because something was obviously wrong with moon.
("You're so good at this job."
"...I am?"
"Yeah! You're the best at it."
"..Okay! [nervous laughter] Let's just- now go downstairs!")
moon clearly holds sun in a bit of a higher care than he acts like he does. hell, he panicked when sun was 'missing', and told monty he'd do anything as long as monty gave him back (even if it turned out that monty had nothing to do with it, and that sun was just sleeping.)
("I don't have a ringer! I don't even know what a ringer is! Why are you hitting me?!"
"Because I just had to go get a necronomicon because I thought Monty kidnapped you!")
i will say that the demon and angel episode added a lot of insight on how moon does feel about sun. my only gripes is that it feels like NOTHING WAS DONE ABOUT IT.
("I don't think we should be yelling at him--"
"You're right! i shouldn't be yelling at him! I SHOULD BE BEATING HIM TO A BLOODY PULP!
"I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I just wanted to share my cool science with you.."
-.-
("It's not like you try to get along with me!"
"I don't try to get along with you becase the first thing you ever did was just saying 'Oh, you're so annoying and dumb and stupid!' What do you mean, try?!")
-.-
"I've been trying my best! That's why I've been bringing you along for my adventures!"
-.-
("I made your favorite..."
"I want you to tell me right now what my favorite is."
"Gingersnap.")
it feels like after they got foxy, it went downhill. or maybe it was after roxanne on her own. maybe that isn't fair to them, maybe it is. i don't know. but there was definitely a shift in moon's behavior, to me at least.
because it feels like foxy brought a surge of violence...
("Hey, by the way, Monty? Sun ran onto oncoming traffic."
"I'm not too surprised, the way you treat him.")
...which only seemed to spiral further once they got bonnie.
("You just- he just hit me with the bottom of his gun, Moon!"
"Let the Sheriff do what he needs to do."
-.-
("It doesn't matter anymore, no one likes me."
"If no one likes you, then you'd think you'd try and be a little different."
"Why- why should I at this point?! Screw you, Moon.")
moon considers sun one of his best friends, which we know from freddy of all people because sun's name is literally part of the password to their internet.
("It's the names of his three best friends! Himself, you, and me!"
"I- I don't think you can be friends with yourself."
"Moon's very self-oriented!"
"Yeah, I know that one...selfish guy."
"No, not selfish! Self-oriented.")
can i just say that it's a terrible fact it can even be part of a bar when this is one of the few episodes moon doesn't physically attack sun, and that's only because hes too focused on investigating?
("So you're saying that Sun's the problem because he keeps getting caught!"
"No, you are in fact still the problem, Moon."
"HA!")
that entire conversation with foxy and roxanne both in the video that sun finally, perhaps rightfully if not in the best way, snapped.
("Just drop the gun, Sun- just drop the gun and we'll be okay- this isn't you- this isn't you, dude-"
"This isn't me? YOU MADE ME LIKE THIS! I'm going to enjoy watching you dissipate to nothing.")
-.-
("Why do you want to kill Bonnie so bad?"
"He has done nothing except torture me ever since he has come here!")
i don't know what moon was expecting, when trying to confess to him. moon, bestie, i think the first sign that you fucked up should have been the very moment he assumed that it was a prank. that eclipse was messing with him.
("I'm in love with you-- what?
"So Eclipse is doing something to you, right?"
"What?"
"Eclipse is doing something to you?"
"…n- no?"
"Yeah, okay, I get it. Eclipse, this some kind of big prank trying to get me to say I like Moon in some romantic light because he treats me like garbage all the time? Eclipsee?-- oh.")
that something was wrong with you.
-.-
("...Because I like you?"
"That's not possible. Improbible!"
"I mean, you're a good person, you're nice, you're kind."
"YOU LITERALLY BEAT ME UP EVERY DAY!")
the fact monty was surprised that moon liked sun. which says a lot because it feels like monty's one of the few moon hangs out around, besides foxy and bonnie.
("Yeah, it's because he doesn't believe i'm in love with him."
"Pardon?"
"Byeee.")
the fact that freddy's been trying to talk to moon about it. been giving moon advice. and moon hasn't been taking it whatsoever.
("He's been talking to me about it. He didn't know how to go about it because he thought you would hate him."
"I do hate him!"
"Yeaahh…I know. But I wanted him to learn his own way."
"He literally started beating me for some trivial reason-- for no reason??"
"Yeeeahhh… I know. I wanted him to learn from his own mistakes.")
while roxanne was..close to being a friend to sun, she's also- as much as i hate to say it- more of an...observer? like she doesnt have the- yknow- courage to actually prevent it outside of words. she was on that route of "she has the spirit, but she's too weak-willed to actually do anything about it" i think. because she like,, she did try! but she never actually followed through. all she said was "maybe we shouldn't do that?" and then never actually tried to stop them
and freddy- while he isnt actively doing things...did turn a blind eye to bonnie's antics in the carnival video. he, too, has never once actually said anything about how sun was treated.
the only one who EVER said anything about it was monty, and that was offhand. that and the fact monty said he cheered when sun pulled the trigger on foxy and bonnie. which honestly might as well be the closest person to an almost-friend sun has! because while monty hasn't been particularly helpful, he hasn't outright hurt him either!
for all the times eclipse has tried to send people after sun and moon to kill them (which so has bonnie! so has moon!), at least he hasn't once went under the guise of actually caring for sun. he hasn't lied to him or anything. also!! that time on the roof, with him and bonnie? while eclipse didn't say anything, he didn't dismiss sun either as he ranted about all the things bonnie did to him. he never once interrupted, let him get it out of his system.
which maybe thats the bare minimum! but honestly? despite all his faults, i'd still think sun was better off with him. because at least he knows eclipse doesn't outright care, and so he can't get sucked in that continious cycle of mixed feelings.
this is all just mostly my opinion though so. feel free to disagree, this is just from what i noted, and honestly i might not have worded it the best but its the best i got rip
i dont even know what im trying to say with this tbh. they are just... idk. i miss what they used to be. i wish things were better for them.

Tin's Favorite Sterek Fics (Part 20)
Hello lovelies, and welcome back to Tin's Favorite Sterek Fics! It's been a while, and for that, I'm sorry. I've been (and still am) going through a bit of a depressive episode. November's typically a tough month for me for a couple of reasons, but it hit harder than usual this year. Still, I wanted to come back and bring you another installment of Tin's Favorite Sterek Fics, just in case anyone needs a little Sterek to get them by like I have.
Side note: I'm actually thinking of doing a some, like, "feature" posts where I rec a single fic at a time, regardless of whether or not I've already rec'd it through this series, and actually explain what I like about the fics. Give a little endorsement, if you will. As much as I love all of the fics I have recommended throughout this series, I definitely have some go-to staple fics that I re-read with far more frequency than others. I can think of at least 3 off of the top of my head right this second...
Idk. Would any of you be interested in that? I might do it no matter what, just to have something to engage my brain a bit, but I have also been nearly catatonic with brain fog and just a general exhaustion of life, so. We'll see.
Okay, enough of my yappin'!
As ever and always, thank you all so much for all of the love and support you've shown this series. It genuinely warms my heart when I get a notification for this series, and I appreciate you all so much. I hope you've all found some new favorites and/or got to dig back into an old favorite or two along the way. There won't be too many more parts, but I'm going to try to stretch this bitch out to 25 parts because it's a tasty number to my brain.
I hope you're all having a good day, if not a great one! Smoochies and squeezies, lovelies!
List and links to previous parts below the cut.
************************************************************************
DISCLAIMER: This is me warning you all that some of the fics I've included in this list may cover explicit, dark, and/or "taboo" subject matters. I cannot express enough how little I care what anyone thinks about any of that; all I want is for you to use caution when reading anything I've listed here and to please review and heed whatever tags the authors have provided in order to keep yourselves safe. Your experience from this point on is your own responsibility, not mine and not the authors'.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Horror of Our Love by Melpomene (Aconitehart) (E | 1/1 | 4,941)
"I'm not wearing a muzzle," Derek snaps.
"Look, if you wear this then we're golden! There's no way you can bite through this, Deaton said so."
"Oh well, if Deaton says," Derek says snidely. It's a silly argument. Sure, Deaton is shady and enjoys bending the truth on occasion, but unless it's a complex assassination plan he wouldn't lie about this. Something that Stiles knows that Derek is aware of.
"There's really no reason for him to lie," Stiles points out. "What's your real problem with it?"
"It's demeaning," Derek says through gritted teeth.
"What? No! Lots of werewolves have to wear one of these," Stiles says, waving the muzzle around. The leather and clasps jingle.
Derek sneers at him. "Wolves who can't control themselves."
"Pot and kettle, buddy. Wait, wait," Stiles says hurriedly when Derek turns to leave, "let's just... let's try it, okay? Come on, have I steered us wrong before?"
-
In which Derek can't control himself while having sex with Stiles and needs to be muzzled.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Burial Rituals by aurevell (G | 1/1 | 4,989)
The necromancer freezes halfway over the fence, stuttering to a halt the second Derek flashes his red eyes. It’s an awkward pose to hold: leg hiked up over the waist-high bars, hands gripping the rail for balance. The fence’s wrought-iron spears dig into his calf a bit as he settles, clearly caught off guard.
“Uh,” he says lamely, his face pale in the scant moonlight. “Shit.”
Derek guards an abandoned cemetery. Stiles is the necromancer trying to break in.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Devoured by Hedwig221b (E | 1/1 | 5,298)
Breathless, Stiles shifted his gaze up and went red from the knowing smirk on the deific face. The man’s red eyes sparkled in the moonlight, glowing like two fires on the tips of the candles. One of his thick eyebrows was lifted in amusement.
He was the most beautiful being Stiles had ever seen. As was probably expected, considering he was the god of sexual desire.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Satisfaction Brought It Back by Snare (E | 1/1 | 7,223)
Derek doesn't know how nobody else seems to notice the large, ever-present bulge in Stiles' jeans. He can't help but be curious about it, he just - he just wants.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lay Me Out by Melpomene (Aconitehart) (E | 2/2 | 8,967)
"This is weird," Stiles tells him. His hands are still on Derek's chest. "Is this weird? Are you even sentient enough to think things are weird?"
Derek's tail wags back and forth, brushing against his calves and stirring up the fallen leaves. And the licking? It doesn't stop. Derek keeps at it, licking Stiles' cheeks, his forehead, that sensitive spot behind his ears. Stiles tries to twist away, much braver now that he hasn't been mauled, but there's no escape.
"Okay," Stiles croaks out. He pushes at Derek's shoulders, his chest. "Let me up, big guy, come on."
When Derek doesn't move, Stiles arches up, trying to wriggle free, but then he feels something wet and sticky against his stomach where his shirt has ridden up. He cranes his neck down and sees Derek's dick. It's distinctly non-human; red, with a tapered tip. Clear fluid drips from it.
"Oh holy god," he says, horrified and fascinated. "Is that - oh fuck."
-
In which Derek has sex with Stiles while in the Alpha form
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
to be with those I like by sheafrotherdon (E | 1/1 | 9,323)
It's Deaton who tells Derek that Stiles is back in town, a broken marriage behind him, his daughter in tow.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How We Got Here by Areiton (E | 1/1 | 9,718)
Maybe if you fight the creatures of the night together like they did, if you bury enough friends and strangers and enemies, you don’t lose touch.
He thinks that’s why he and Derek are friends--because Derek understands his nightmares, understands the nights when he can’t talk, and the nights he can’t stand the dark.
OR: Against all odds and expectations, Stiles and Derek have become respectable adults ( WHY?) and friends.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lunches, Knitting and Definitely Not Dating by attackofthezee (noxlunate), noxlunate (T | 1/1 | 10,107)
“So, I uh, managed to get myself pregnant.”
“You what?!”
“Got myself pregnant. Y’know, up the duff, knocked up, a bun in the oven, in a family way, eating for two, with child. I could go on Dad, really, stop me before I exhaust the list of pregnancy euphemisms. There’s still caught an 18 year STD, my eggo is preggo, building a person-“
“Stiles.”
“Hosting a parasite, harboring a fugitive-“
(Just a weird mpreg fic with Derek and Stiles totally kinda dating without realizing it, and Stiles figuring out this whole having a baby thing.)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(they say) this should feel something like fire by dallisons (E | 1/1 | 11,163)
Drip. Drop. Drip. Drop. Drip.
"Turn it off." The pack looked up, stunned into silence by the first words they'd heard from him in weeks.
Stiles stood, trembling - his knees weak. He tried to run and collapsed, his bad leg failing him once again. Derek caught him. "Turn it off," he said, his voice unmistakably a growl.
The water continued leaking from the loose faucet, and all Stiles heard was Erica's blood against the concrete. Drip. Drop. Drip. Drop. Drip. Drop. Drip.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Whatever Our Souls Are Made Of by Lissadiane (NR | 1/1 | 14,953)
It's a cold, snowy night and Stiles is halfway through his shift at the campus coffee shop when a tall, dark and handsome stranger walks in, one who seems unaware that he's being haunted by a wolf.
In which Stiles Stilinski sees the ghosts of animals with unfinished business, and Derek Hale is unaware that his dearly departed sister left a few things unfinished.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Untouchable by Hedwig221b (E | 1/1 | 17,128)
The day Stiles Stilinski entered the Berkeley campus was the day all the alphas went absolutely fucking nuts.
See, omegas were rare, even more than redheads. Got to be extremely fucking lucky to even see one in a lifetime. They were supposed to be these ethereal creatures of beauty and elegance, irresistible and blinding.
And Stiles Stilinski was exactly that.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Camaro '68 by ZainClaw (E | 1/1 | 17,707)
Derek huffs, arching one eyebrow. "I'm not a fugitive." "You look like a fugitive," Stiles insists, practically beaming. "Maybe you should start wearing cardigans."
In which Stiles is a hitchhiker and Derek a runaway whose paths cross at a gas station in the California desert.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cross a Canyon (with a broken limb) by theroguesgambit (T | 1/1 | 18,010)
“You never graduated,” Stiles says, just to say it. To test it out in the open air. That's... huh.
--
Stiles spends his senior year battling troll-gremlins, taking on an unexpected tutoring job, and definitely not falling for a certain sourwolf (even though everyone else seems to think he is).
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Do You Wanna Date My Avatar? by Renmackree (T | 9/9 | 18,399)
Scott frowned, grabbing the game case and reading it out loud.
“Become the Hero you've always wanted to be. Battle monsters, witches, dragons, and all the mythical beasts of the World of Fantasy. Play as a Human, Elf, Dwarf and other special races included in the basic game. Stiles this so stupid. Who the hell would want to play as a Werewolf?” Scott threw the game back on the bed and leaned back in the chair.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We Only Get Better by Ninna_7 (T | 8/8 | 22,741)
Stiles doesn't call him these days. Not since he left Beacon Hills that last time. Not since Stiles left the FBI internship programme in favour of studying Forensic Psychology at NYU. Stiles has texted him a few times in the past, but he never called. Not anymore. Back then, however, whenever Derek received a call from Stiles or called Stiles in return, it was purely for survival's sake. So Derek doesn't know what to expect from this call. If he's being honest, he's scared of it.
x
Or: It's been years since Stiles and Derek last spoke, but a phone call from the human reconnects them. They have the chemistry, the history and the shared trauma. With time and each other, maybe they can have more.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
part-time soulmate, full-time problem by Renmackree (E | 1/1 | 27,111)
Stiles had seen it all in his five years of supernatural shenanigans, but never in his life would he have guessed returning to Derek's old stomping grounds in New York, especially under the guise of Derek's magical Mate.
It was going to be an exciting summer.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Light in the Woods series by DiscontentedWinter (5 works | G-M | 36,507)
1. The Lights in the Woods (T | 8/8 | 12,293) To honour a treaty with the people of a strange land, Derek Hale, prince of the kingdom of Triskelion, has to marry Stiles. 2. The Gift of the Trees (T | 1/1 | 4,780) Stiles is everything that Derek ever wanted... almost. 3. Moonflower (G | 1/1 | 3,331) Stiles and Derek's son finds his magic. 4. The Path of the Wolf (G | 1/1 | 5,206) Faolán has to find his own path. 5. The Heart of the Wolf (M | 4/4 | 10,897) Etienne Argent is rescued by a strange young man in the woods.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In Any Version of Reality by alisvolatpropiis (E | 7/7 | 39,853)
Standing next to not-Derek – whoa, holding not-Derek’s hand? – is someone who looks remarkably like Stiles. Is Stiles, a slightly-altered replica, just like this guy both is and isn't Derek.
It’s not like looking into a mirror – one, because looking into a mirror actually makes some kind of sense, and two, because not-Stiles looks older too, mid twenties maybe. And the tips of his short, spiky hair are dark purple, and he’s got a lip ring and he’s shirtless and covered in tattoos and what the holy hell?
“Time travel?" He's sufficiently freaked. Somewhere in the back of his mind, he hears his dad laughing.
“Not exactly,” not-Derek says, and shit, even his voice sounds exactly the same, disconcertingly gentle. He gestures behind him, and Stiles looks over his shoulder, where behind him, scattered across the porch and in the front yard, are more…Dereks and more Stileses.
Fourteen total, including the two at the door, he notes distantly, eyes feeling like they’re about to pop out of his head from bulging so hard.
Seven other Dereks. Seven other Stileses.
Seven Derek and Stiles pairs.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Moon Gave Me Permission by Melpomene (Aconitehart) (E | 9/9 | 57,572)
“I probably shouldn’t tell you this,” Scott says, eyeing Stiles’ fries. “But Derek Hale is back in town. I saw him at the gas station the other day.”
This piques Stiles’ interest. Oh yes it does. Like any good true crime aficionado, Stiles has his favourite case. His pet cold case. His hometown murder. The thing he brings up when he’s tired of small talk and just wants to get real.
The Hale Family Fire and the suicide of Katherine Argent.
Stiles knows this case inside and out. He’s racked up thousands of karma points on reddit for his thoughtful analysis, his pictures of the crime scene, and of his reporting of local gossip. Beacon Hills is a small town, small enough that Stiles is the only one on the Unresolved Mysteries subreddit to have actually seen the burnt out shell in person.
He’ll tell anyone who listens what he finds fascinating about the case. Absolutely no shame. He’s read all of the articles, he’s pestered his father’s deputies for more information, and he’s read every cold case compilation book that so much as mentions it.
No one knows this case like Stiles does.
-
In which Derek Hale is a man with a dark past, and Stiles is completely obsessed with him.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Soul Knows What the Heart Wants by isthatbloodonhisshirt (wasterella) (M | 9/9 | 163,779)
“Holy—shit,” Stiles breathed, Bacon stopping in what he was doing, still staring at him intently, as if begging him to understand, for someone to finally understand. Stiles felt like he’d been electrocuted and he leapt out of his chair, kneeling in front of Bacon and grabbing at his furry face. “Holy shit! Oh my God, are you—wait, holy—you’re not fucking with me, right?!”
Bacon let out two quick barks, which Stiles chose to interpret as ‘no.’
“Oh my God, are you a real person in there?!” Stiles shouted in the wolf’s face, staring him right in the eye. He was still holding the wolf’s head with both hands, but Bacon dipped his muzzle in confirmation and Stiles officially lost his mind.
“Oh my God!” he shouted again, releasing Bacon to clutch at his own hair. “Oh my God! Dude, for real?! You’re—holy shit! Holy shit!” He didn’t know how to react to this news. He had no fucking idea how to react. This was a person?! But how?! How was this a person?! People didn’t just turn into wolves!

Everyone say thank you to @artificialbreezy because ever since she texted me the other day with some Jesse Cash thots I haven't been able to shut my brain up. Also another huge thank you to @thefallennightmare because she also contributed to the Jesse Cash brain rot and now here I am.
Jesse Cash Christmas blurb below. Please enjoy & let me know your thoughts! This was my first time typing up one of these and I had a lot of fun!
18+ CW: Mostly just a ton of sweet fluff with soft Jesse. Kissing, making out, grinding, taunting/teasing, language.
Tumblr media
“How do you like your hot cocoa, with marshmallows or with whipped cream? Or both?”
You let out a light chuckle at Jesse’s question, “hmm surprise me!” You shouted back towards the kitchen where Jesse had been preparing two cups of hot chocolate for your Christmas movie marathon night.
Jesse had just gotten back from a three month tour with ERRA yesterday afternoon, and he had made a promise to you that once he was back home you both could have a night together watching all of your favorite christmas movies.
His tired eyes weighed heavy all day and you had told him multiple times that you could reschedule the movie night for another time but Jesse always kept his promises to you, no matter what.
You were cuddled up on the couch under an array of different blankets with both your knees brought up to your chest while you scrolled through different TV apps deciding on a movie.
Jesse emerged from the kitchen wearing a pair of plaid Christmas pj pants that matched yours which he had paired with his long sleeve cream colored shirt and the pair of long fuzzy Christmas socks you had given him earlier.
Coming to a halt in front of you, he extended his hand towards you holding out a snowman mug, “here you go beautiful, one cup of hot cocoa with whipped cream and marshmallows.” A matching snowman mug filled with hot cocoa rested in his other hand.
You reached out to grab the mug, wrapping both hands around it while letting the heat warm your skin. “I can see the mountain of whipped cream, but where are the marshmallows?” You teased while taking a small sip, unsure of just how hot the contents inside were.
Jesse sat down on the couch cushion next to you, “I put them under the whipped cream so that way you get a little marshmallow surprise in each sip.”
Finally deciding on the live action version of The Grinch, you hit play on the remote, and then leaned back against Jesse’s chest, resting your head against his shoulder blade. “Thank you for making us hot chocolate, babe.”
Jesse reached around you to pull the blankets back up over you both, “anything for you darling.” He took a sip of his cocoa and did his best to keep the mountain of whipped cream and all the extra chocolate drizzle he coated the top with from dripping down onto you.
You both sat there cuddled up & taking each other in while the glow from the TV screen casted against your faces, making up the time for having to be apart the last few months.
Jesse reached over to place his mug down onto the coffee table and when he leaned back into his original spot he wrapped both his arms around you, holding onto you as if you were to slip from his grasp any moment.
With your head resting against his shoulder you tilted your head up to look at him, “I missed you too.” You said while rubbing your thumb along the front of his hand.
“I’m glad I made this promise. Even if you did make me wear these fluffy socks that are making my feet sweat. Any moment spent with you is special, but nights like these always mean the most. Just you and me, Darlin.”
Jesse tilted his head down to lay a gentle kiss against your lips and you hummed in delight at the taste. As he pulled away you spotted a little bit of hot cocoa and whipped cream that was tucked away in the corner of his mouth.
You reached up to wipe it away with your thumb, “looks like you got a little bit of your whipped cream chocolate syrup mountain stuck over here.”
Jesse kept solid eye contact with you as you cleaned around his mouth and when you went to wipe the whip cream off on the paper towel that rested under Jesse’s mug, he gently grabbed your wrist to bring your finger back to his mouth so he could suck off the whipped cream.
“Sorry, I couldn’t help myself, you know I can never resist a sweet treat.” Jesse winked back at you.
You turned in his embrace to position yourself so you could properly face him, “you know, you look like a sweet treat yourself.”
“Oh yeah?”
“Yeah.” You whispered against his lips.
Jesse’s hand slid up under your shirt brushing along your back leaving goosebumps in its trail. With slight force, he pulled you into him leaving absolutely no space in between you two.
You brought your hand up and around his neck and dragged your fingers through his curls to pull him in for another kiss. This one being more passionate than the first.
Jesse glided his tongue along your bottom lip and you opened your mouth to let your tongue brush against his. He tasted of chocolate and marshmallows and you savored the taste as it filled your mouth.
The kiss was lazy and it was messy, both of your body temperatures rising from the body heat that was casting off of the both of you.
You pulled your head back to take in a breath, “we are getting distracted and we are going to have to rewind the movie.” You chuckled up against his lips.
“Shit you’re right, I’m sorry.” Once you adjusted yourself back down into his chest Jesse reached around you to grab the remote and started rewinding the movie back to the beginning. “Gotta be serious this time, no funny business.”
“It’s okay, part of that was my fault.” You said while leaving a kiss to the inside of his arm.
Your full attention was back on to the TV in front of you but Jesse couldn’t help himself from staring down at you, taking you in as the lights from the Christmas tree in the corner glistened across your face.
He leaned down to occasionally brush kisses along your forehead and a smile would creep across your face each time.
As your eyes started to slowly blink away the tiredness that fell down upon you Jesse leaned forward to place more kisses across your forehead, then down to your cheeks, coating your face in a kiss attack.
“Jesse!” You shouted through a fit of giggles, “You’re blocking the TV and I can’t see anything!”
“That’s the point, I want all of your attention on me, Darlin.”
“Jeesh, you’re so needy.” You joked.
“I can show you needy.” Jesse taunted back.
Unable to keep up the fight any longer, you threw the blankets off of you and climbed up into Jesse’s lap to straddle him. Your mouths meeting in another fiery make out session. One that lasted all throughout the night, leaving you and Jesse to reschedule your Christmas movie marathon for next week.

Hi, I was wondering if I can ask a request for Eddie Diaz x Female Paramedic Reader smut, where they both can't keep their hands of each other and in means of finding a private place end up in the back seat of Eddie's pick up truck and do some 'things'. I am just dying for some soft Dom! Eddie Diaz smut, thank you.
Yes, yes! Thursday’s episode, I could keep my eyes off him! What a beautiful man!
cw: MDNI (18+) smut (p in v) slight dom!eddie
“You’re so pretty,” Eddie tells you as he lies on top of you in the back seat of his truck. His hand travels up your thigh and gives it a soft squeeze as his lips find yours once again.
This has become something you've done almost every single night after your shifts. Since you want to keep what's going on between the two of you a secret, you always end up meeting in a random parking lot when you always find yourselves in the back seat of Eddie's truck.
"No I think that's you," you argue as your hands slide into his hair as his lips find their way to your neck. You gasp as he gives it a rough suck and he chuckles against your skin in response.
"How about we both be pretty then?" He asks before nipping the spot right under your ear as his hands move to undo your bra.
"W-works for me."
"I think this is where you look the prettiest, though," he says, as he tosses your bra into the passenger seat before moving down to your chest, kissing all the way down your torso. "When you're underneath me."
He always knows exactly what to say to get you wet and he knows how good he is at it. You can see it in the look in his eyes. His hand unbutton your pants and he pulls them down, not missing the wet patch on your panties. He's quick to take them off along with your socks and shoes and he spreads your legs wide to get a good look at what he's working with.
"Is this for me? Honey, you shouldn't have."
The teasing was funny at first, but now you're getting desperate. You need him to do something now or you're gonna finish the job yourself.
"Eddie, please," you whine.
"Please what, honey?" He knows exactly what you want, but he wants to hear you say it. He wants you to beg for him, to whine, to cry and then he'll give you what you so desperately want.
"Please fuck me. I need you." Your whining always does something to him and now he's tenting in his pants. He's so hard that it's starting to hurt. He needs to get inside soon or he thinks he might explode.
"Well that was all you had to say. Now relax. I'm gonna take care of you."
You watch him retrieve an condom from his pocket and he sets it to the side as he gets himself undressed as quick as possible before rolling the condom onto his cock. Once he's ready, he doesn't hesitate to fully sink himself inside you just how he knows you like, watching your face the entire time.
It seems that no matter how many times you've fucked, he has to stretch you out every time. He can tell that it's still a lot for you to take in and he can see that you're already crying. He asks if you want to stop because of your obvious discomfort, but you just say not, shaking your head furiously. You're not going to be fully satisfied until you can feel every inch of him.
Once he's fully in, Eddie stays there, seeing just long you can hold out and when you ask him to keep going, he pumps in and out, fucking you fast and hard and deep as his hands pin your wrists to the seat, nothing but filthy words coming from his mouth as he does so.
Your moans are nothing but delicious as they fall from your lips, and mixed with your labored breaths, the windows are fogging up pretty quickly. Eddie has barely even done anything, but you already feel so tired from it all.
"You're starting to slur, hon. Already fucked out, huh? Does my big cock wear you out, baby?" All you can do is nod in response. "Alright, well, give me one more and then I'll take you home. Just one more, baby. You can do it."
Eddie gives you a few more thrusts and you're orgasming, your back arching as you do so. His hands slide underneath you as he talks you through it, encouraging you the entire time. And once you come down, Eddie lays you down on the seat and then he cleans you up with what he has in his glove compartment before he helps you get dressed. He then helps you into the passenger seat before he takes you home where he cuddled you until the both of you fell asleep, wrapped up each other's arms.

I hope you start feeling better (mentally) soon. You deserve good things. I hope the comjng new year is kind to you, and that this year gets a little easier in the last few weeks.
I know it might not mean much from an internet stranger, but I’m proud of you and I hope it gets better.
thank you. in all honesty. im proud of myself this year. for a short list i had my first ‘big deal’ art project (working on an installation for a well known museum in my area that’s been up for over six months), survived a hostile living situation and got out okay, struggled with housing but ended up in the best living situation ive ever had, tried edibles, had my first kiss and my first relationship (and now my first breakup, which i’m handling fairly well all things considered), got two jobs that i love and am successful at, got elected in a student government position, met one of the most important musicans to me (who said i was adorable and that we should be friends), got an internship i love, secured a few friends in my life that i love more than anything- and so on and so on. it’s been a. lot! theres been bad and theres been horrific but its been. a lot of good also and i will keep on moving as long as i can i think.
my mental state lately has mostly been due to uncertinty and my uncomfortablity with not knowing the future. but i am now more solid on a few things and i can move forward, leaving them far behind me. im going to try and make this another big year.

From Goth to Ghost (part 2)
Here's part 2 to my @ecto-implosion fic for @blonchie's incredible art! Check out both of their pieces HERE!
Characters: Sam, Danny, Tucker Tags/warnings: No Warnings, Halfa!Sam (temporarily) Summary: The last thing Sam expected to wake up to was her body frozen on her bed. But unfortunately, thanks to a certain jock's midnight ponderings and the interference of one wish-granting ghost, that was exactly how she started off her morning.
[read on ao3]
[part 1]
****
Somehow, through sheer force of luck, and—well, actually, no, it was all luck—she managed to survive the school day with little more than a bruised knee.
But at least no one saw her fall!
Is what she would have thought if that were true. Unfortunately, everyone in her history class had seen her spectacular tumble to the floor. And yes, most of them had also laughed.
Which was the icing on the cake.
But, she supposed it could have been worse. She could have been like Danny who'd infamously dropped forty-two beakers and cost the school so much in damaged equipment that he was banned from ever handling fragile objects again.
Unlike Danny, however, she actually had a brain. And some impulse control. So perhaps that was why, unlike him, she managed to stay mostly on her feet.
She had to be nice to him, she reminded herself. He was the one who was going to teach her how to use these powers. She wasn't allowed to make fun of him for being a butterfingers—she wasn't going to say a word.
Of course, that promise lasted all of a minute after the final bell rang.
Actually, she wasn't sure she'd even made it off the property before she was smugly rubbing it in Danny's scrawny face that unlike him, she actually managed to keep her shit (mostly) together during school. That it was obvious that in this competition of who could be the better halfa she'd only just invented, she was winning by a mile.
And no, his protesting and whining didn't change a thing.
"Face it, Danny, I'm just better at being dead. What can I say? It's the goth in me."
"No way! I'm so much better at being dead. Skulker even wants to skin me and turn me into his rug because of how good I am at being dead!"
"Please! Skulker will turn anything that moves into a rug. You're not that special."
"You both are fantastic at being dead. Happy?" Tucker asked.
"Only after I get all this energy out!" Sam looked around, confirming that they were alone in the treeline of the park. Her heart pounded slightly, but her excitement won out. She barely contained her grin as she turned to Danny and asked, "Here?"
"Sure," Danny said.
"How often do you come here again?" Tucker asked. Beside him was a tree with marks running along the bark that suspiciously resembled ecto-burns.
"Now? Almost never. But especially when I first got my ice powers, I was here a lot. The sudden shift in my core energy was pretty intense at first. You guys remember."
Tucker snorted and leaned back against the trunk, folding his arms. "Oh yeah. You nearly froze half the city over!"
"It wasn't pretty," Sam agreed, then faced a tree. "So what, I'm just supposed to blast it? I don't wanna hurt the plant!"
"Yeah, Danny, plants have feelings too!" Tucker agreed with a shit-eating grin.
One that Sam definitely knew wasn't sincere. "Oh, shut up, Tucker."
Danny face-palmed. "You won't hurt the tree. I've done this plenty of times." Then, he paused, adopting that aloof expression that so-often had Sam throwing her combat boot at his head. It was an agonizing pause before he finally opened his mouth and forced Sam and Tucker to listen to him say, "Or, I guess you could say I've done it plant-y of times."
Sam had never felt so disappointed in him in her life. But he didn't seem to notice, instead facing them with a proud chuckle as he continued the torture, saying, "Hah, get it? Plant-y? Get it? Like plenty but with plants?"
He bent over, clutching his knees with his hands as weak chuckles forced their way up his throat and desecrated the natural air around them.
"My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined," Tucker responded.
"I agree," Sam said.
"Well I could leaf you two right here!"
It took two full, long, painful minutes before Danny could stand upright without bursting into another fit of giggles. By the end of it, Sam was pretty sure that if he laughed over his awful puns one more time, she was going to use him for target practice instead of the tree.
"Okay, okay. I'm good now, I promise," Danny said. "I'm not going to branch out into a new—"
It was with Sam's deepest regrets that the last of her restraint failed her and she ended up blasting the ground at Danny's feet, causing him to leap into the air with a yelp and reflexively throw his hands out as if to defend himself. Except, what he'd forgotten, was that he didn't have a ghost core anymore, and thus couldn't do things like fly or blast Sam back, and he ended up with his ass on the ground.
Of course, Sam apologized from the bottom of her heart. It was incredibly convincing, which she knew because Danny totally didn't roll his eyes and "yeah yeah" her when she was done.
Once everyone got back on their feet, the real work could begin. Except...
Sam crossed her arms. "I'm still not blasting a tree. We need trees for the environment, Danny."
"I told you! They're fine. They like being blasted!"
Sam glared.
"I don't know, you're the tree whisperer! Do any of these trees look like they're dying?" Danny asked.
Other than the minor, surface-level burn marks she saw on a few trees, she couldn't see any significant damage.
"Fine, but only because there's literally nowhere else for us to practice in Amity Park," Sam conceded. "So, how exactly do I do this?"
Danny’s face lit up. "So you feel that cold spot in your chest?"
Sam touched her chest. She could feel it, and with the growing anticipation of being used, it had began silently humming like a songbird. It was gentle, but excited all the same. "Yeah, I do feel it."
"Grab it. That should trigger your transformation. From there, it's just a matter of taking the energy and directing it. The more electric feeling ones are the blasts, and ice is colder."
Sam mentally poked at the core, and it almost jumped back at her, desperate to be brought to the forefront. She took a deep breath, steeled herself, and this time when she mentally poked it, she didn't back away.
The transformation felt like being dunked in the Arctic Sea. Cold energy zapped through her spine as bright light overtook her vision. The rings split and traveled apart, and she shivered as she felt the energy course through her body like a charged magnet. It was spiky and tangy, and yet strangely smooth and right.
She closed her eyes as the rings washed over her face and sizzled into her aura. Her body lightened, and her feet left the ground. She threw her arms out to the side and took a moment, feeling every sense heighten—her ears, her nose. It was as if she could hear every rustling leaf and smell each blade of grass. When her eyes opened, the world had sharpened, and she could see tiny details in the distance with more clarity than she thought possible.
"Whoa," was all she could think to say.
"I know, right?" Danny smiled.
"Wow. I had no idea this is what your vision was like." Sam glanced down at him. "It's like putting on glasses or something. That's insane."
Tucker whistled. "You pull off the goth-ghost look pretty well! A little too much Danny, though. Too bad!"
Sam had nearly forgotten that her appearance had changed. She swiveled around—a little clumsily, she wasn't used to this whole flying thing—to face Tucker who had his phone already prepped and raised on camera mode. Leaning forward, she saw herself. Her previously black hair, like Danny's, had turned white, and her hair elastic holding up her half-ponytail glowed ectoplasmic green. Her eyes too had taken on that acid green color from their previous violet. Her suit was very much the classic Phantom suit with its black body, white gloves and boots, and the white DP logo on her chest. The only minor difference was unlike Danny's straight-lined white loop at the waist, hers was shaped like a V.
She backed away from the phone camera slightly, twirling so she could see more of herself. Sam had never particularly been one for appearances, and she certainly always scoffed at the way the A-Listers like Paulina liked to make their appearance the center of the Universe, but even she had to admit that yeah, she really did pull off the ghost look well.
Well, if that wasn't an extremely goth thing to think, Sam didn't know what was.
"I'm stealing your look, Danny," she joked.
He returned her grin. "Careful, and I might have to steal yours right back."
Tucker laughed. "Yeah, I'd love to see you in a skater skirt."
Sam rolled her eyes. Boys.
"So, what, I just direct the energy into my hands and then that's how I blast things?" she asked.
"Yup! Try it out."
"Just don't hit me!" Tucker called, retreating back to his tree trunk where he settled down on the grass and leaned back to return his attention to his phone.
"Just for that, I'll hit you twice!"
"Go for it!" Danny encouraged.
"Shut up!"
Sam steeled herself, facing off against the tree. Even if logically the ectoplasmic blast wasn't going to hurt it, the thought of blasting a tree was a little much for her. So, gathering her energy, she decided to get a little creative.
The chill covered her body like a blizzard, and she'd seen Danny do this enough times to know that her eyes were glowing blue. It surged forth, propelling down her arms and through the tips of her fingers until there was nowhere for it to go but out.
Ice billowed into the open air with more force than she was expecting. Like a blizzard, it wanted to commandeer the woods and fill every inch of the ground with spikes. She strained her fingers, forcing them to flex toward her palm. The ice followed her direction, collecting in one singular mound rather than fanning out. It wasn't smooth or delicate like she'd envisioned, but it worked.
Eons later, but it was likely only a few seconds, she finally let go and the last of the power dwindled from her fingertips. She'd been pushed back slightly, and she drifted back toward Danny and Tucker.
"Not bad!" Danny said, bringing his hands down from their position shielding his face. "A little rough around the edges, but overall that's pretty damn good!"
Sam looked to her creation, the mound of ice that didn't really have much of a shape, but it existed and she'd made it. Pride surged through her, and she raised her fists in the air with a triumphant cry. "Fuck yeah!"
"An ice show? Now she's really stealing your style, dude," Tucker said.
Invigorated by her small win, Sam whirled around and tried again, this time picturing a shape. Something simple, she thought, like a box.
Actually making her vision come to life was more difficult than she'd anticipated, and she wasn't exactly perfect. It resembled more of a rectangular shape than the cube she'd been picturing, and one of the corners was definitely jutting out—not to mention that big ice spike sticking out right in the center—but once again, she'd done it!
And then, now with a target that wasn't a living plant, she switched her core over, tapping into the icy hot, tingly acid that dominated her senses. Like the ice, it was more than happy to respond, lighting her body with what she could only describe as pure and unfiltered energy. Her hair stood on its ends, and she could see her aura’s glow intensify as she raised her green palms and let out a singular blast.
The whiplash was intense, and she flew back, her spine hitting a branch behind her. The blast hit its target—not perfectly, of course, but with all her practicing with the ecto-gun, she had been at least confident that she wouldn't miss.
The semi-cube splintered, and the jutting corner that she'd hit fell into the ground and shattered to pieces.
Sam pushed herself off the tree, a giggle of adrenaline crawling up her throat. "Holy shit!"
Danny stared at her, mouth agape.
"Guys!" She lowered herself, her feet touching down on the now-frosted ground. "Did you see that? How cool was that?"
"That was fucking awesome!" Danny said, nearly jumping over to Sam with bright eyes.
"Right? It was so insane! How do you control the power level? It all came out in a giant flood, I could barely see! And you can make low-powered ones? How the hell do you do that?"
"Ah, yeah." Danny rubbed the back of his neck, looking sheepish. "I'm not sure? I just kind of dial the power level down. Like, in my core, I mean."
"Wow, Danny, you're so helpful!" Despite her excitement, she managed to get the sarcasm across.
"Hey, don't look at me! I haven't had these powers for that long, you know."
"Like over a year! And you haven't even sat down to study them at all?"
"Has it really been a year?" Danny asked.
"Yes, space-case!"
"Superpowers, ice blasting, blah, blah! You know what else is cool?" Tucker cut into their bantering, tapping away at his phone. He paused to wave it in the air. "Yo, lovebirds! Ember was spotted downtown!"
Sam and Danny froze, eyes glancing between each other and Tucker's phone.
Sam was the one to first break the silence. "Alright, let's go!"
Danny reeled back. "What do you mean, let's go?"
"I mean exactly what it sounds like. Let's go! Ember's downtown and is probably hypnotizing a bunch of people right now, so we have to go save them! Let's go!"
"Wait, wait, back up," Tucker said, holding his hand out. "You're gonna fight her? Ember?"
Sam huffed. "Well, duh! Who else? Danny? The one without ghost powers right now?"
"Well, I do have more experience—"
"Fighting with ghost powers, you do!" Sam retorted.
"Hey, I have some experience fighting in human form too, you know! Vlad's shorted out my powers plenty of times..." He broke off, grumbling.
"Okay, well, I'm the one with the firepower right now, unless you forgot. So let's go! Seriously, I'm not gonna wait around for you two if you want to stay here thinking about it. The sooner we get there, the easier it'll be to take Ember down."
Danny stood here, brow furrowed and hand rubbing the back of his neck for another beat until he finally relented with a sigh. "Fine," he said, holding out his arm for flight. "Go on!"
Actually figuring out how to get the three of them into the air invisibly was harder than Danny had been making it look. In her defense, he didn't start flying the three of them together until over a month after he'd first acquired his ghost powers, and Sam was out here trying to do it on day one.
Especially since she found that unless she was constantly paying attention to the invisibility, it had a bad habit of shortening out.
Which it did. Twice.
And that was where the phone call came from.
It was her mom, of course, who'd been watching the news and had seen flickers of Danny and Tucker being "kidnapped"—as she'd so elegantly called it—by Phantom. Now, her mom was entirely convinced that the three of them had been kidnapped or brainwashed or both by Phantom, and would not let Sam explain that she was safe and sound.
Especially since Ember was currently downtown. Where Phantom had been spotted with his equally captive audience.
"Shit," Sam swore, hanging up her phone and stuffing it into her backpack that Danny was now holding. "I don't know what to do! My mom is on her way down here to come rescue me!"
"Then turn back into yourself?" Tucker said.
Sam heard a scuffle, and she peeked around the dumpster to glance down the alley they were hiding in, but fortunately, the source of the sound was only a squirrel.
She turned back to her friends. "I can't! I have to go stop Ember. You saw the crowd she'd already amassed! That busking performance is going to turn into a mob before we know it."
"Sam's right," Danny conceded, surprising Sam. He held her gaze, and his eyes were steel. It was an expression she'd only seen come out when Phantom was involved. "She can't go home. As much as I hate to admit it, I don't think I can stop Ember in human form. Sam has to be the one to fight her."
"Okay, then who's fighting Mrs. Manson?" Tucker asked. "Because that woman can be a freaking force when she wants to be."
"Easy!" Danny snapped his fingers. "We’ll just do the old switcheroo!"
Sam and Tucker looked at him blankly.
"The what?" Tucker blurted.
"You know! Like you guys did for me!" Danny opened the small front pocket of Sam’s backpack, and before she could protest, he brought out a little black hairband like it was some sort of prize. To her utter confusion, he began pulling the longer strands of his hair back and forming something of a messy half-ponytail. "Ta da! How do I look?"
"Danny, what the hell?" Sam asked deadpan.
"I told you, didn't I? You steal my Phantom style, and I'm going to steal yours."
Tucker guffawed. "Oh man, I was joking before, but are you really about to put on a skater skirt?"
"Not unless you want to. But something tells me Mrs. Manson won't be convinced if you try to be Sam."
"It's my eyes, I know," Tucker bantered. “They’re just too beautiful to be Sam’s.”
"Definitely your eyes," Sam agreed, then turned back to Danny. "You're being for real right now? You're cool with pretending to be me and letting my mom chase you around town while I deal with Ember?"
"Listen, my stamina's gotten pretty good fighting ghosts."
"My mom does crossfit."
"I thought she did pilates?" Tucker asked.
"She does that too."
Tucker tsked his tongue. "Oh shit, Danny, you're screwed. You can still back out, you know."
Danny rolled his eyes. "I'll be fine! Being chased by ghosts all the time has built me some endurance, you know."
“Some?” Tucker asked.
“More than you have, anyway.”
"Alright, let's do this," Sam agreed.
Her boldness only lasted so long, unfortunately. The clothing swap was just as awkward to do as it sounded. Tucker, laughing maniacally, was forced to stand guard facing away from them as Sam transformed back into human form, they swapped outfits, and uncomfortably redressed behind the smelly dumpster. Only when they'd both given the verbal consent that they were decent again did they turn around and survey each other.
Sam felt as ridiculous in her new attire as she was sure Danny did in his. While she was normally used to her tighter, dark clothing, she felt like she was swimming in his baggy, bright white T-shirt and blue jeans.
"You guys are good?" Tucker yelled.
"Yup!" Danny called back.
"Hang on!" Tucker said, rushing over to them with a speed he hadn’t even reserved for gym class. As soon as he caught sight of them, he burst into laughter. "Oh, man! Oh my god, I gotta get a picture of this!"
"Tucker!" Sam stomped her floppy red feet. "Danny's doing me a solid right now!"
Tucker ignored her, pulling out his phone and not being subtle about the way he'd begun pointing it directly at the two of them. "I know I said I wanted to see you in a skater skirt, dude, but I never thought it'd actually come true!"
Danny took it in stride, putting one hand on the back of his hair and the other on his hip to strike a model pose. "As I said: Sam steals my style, I'm taking hers!"
That sent Tucker into another fit of giggles.
"You're sure about this?" Sam asked, watching as Danny bent down to lace his combat boots.
"Totally!" He gave her a cheesy smile from his crouched position. "I got this! You go get Ember!"
"Right!" Sam touched her core, and this time the transformation washed over her with easy familiarity. At once, her body felt light as gravity became optional, and she levitated into the air, inhaling a deep breath despite being keenly aware that she didn't really need to anymore.
Her aura settled around her skin as her veins became rich with ectoplasmic power, and when she opened her eyes to give one last look to her friends, she did so with determination in her eyes.
"Okay, I'm ready."
"Hell yeah, you are," Tucker agreed.
"You got this!" Danny said.
She nodded to them both once more and then took off, shooting down the alley and swooping up into the sky. She climbed the air high until she spotted Ember's rapidly growing crowd, and then with acrobatic ease, dived down in the direction of Ember's glowing figure.
As she approached, the crowd that hadn't seemed too large from the sky suddenly looked much more intimidating up close. She stopped above them, surveying the sea of chanting faces.
"Ember! Ember!"
No one had noticed Sam yet, too entranced by Ember’s spell. And there was Ember herself at the center of the crowd, twirling to wave to the crowds all around her.
"Thank you, everyone! Thank you!"
"Ember! Ember!"
This wasn't good. If they fought here, Ember would have a never-ending energy supply from the crowd's chanting. Like most ghosts, fighting Ember was a battle of endurance, and here, Ember could endure for hours. Meanwhile, Sam...had no idea what her limits were.
She probably couldn't last that long, based on Danny's early fights.
So, Sam needed to get Ember away from her adoring fans. But how?
The first time Danny had to fight Ember, they used Tucker's ear-bleeding singing voice to snap the crowd out of their hypnosis. And...she'd left Tucker in the alley.
Shit!
Okay, so she couldn't use Tucker. Turning invisible, she flew lower, scanning the crowd to see if there was anyone else she recognized who probably had an equally terrible singing voice.
And...there! Perfect.
Ember's back was still to Sam, and she was still too distracted by her narcissism to notice Sam creeping forward, at first slowly, closer and closer until she was just fifteen feet away from Ember.
And that's when Sam saw it—Ember's shoulders stiffened. She'd noticed the chill of Sam's aura, and so before Sam could think, she shot forward, ripping the microphone from its stand at the same time as Ember whirled around.
Sam regained visibility and darted back triumphantly, a whoop at her lips.
"You—" Ember stopped, her fierce brows melting into an expression of pure confusion. "Wait, you're not the dipstick!"
Sam didn't respond, instead flying down to greet her future savior: Kwan.
"Do you love Ember?" she yelled into the mic and then held it to Kwan's face.
"Yeah I do!" Kwan answered.
Behind him, the crowd roared in approval.
Ember's face pinched in confusion.
"So why don't you show us how much you love her by singing one of her songs?"
Kwan snatched the microphone from Sam's fingers, his eagerness overtaking all sense of reason. At the same time, still in the center of the crowd was Ember, who—based on her shifting facial expression—was just now catching up to Sam's master plan.
But she was too late. Because as soon as Kwan opened his mouth, Sam had already won.
"Ember! You will remember!"
If Sam Googled the definition of tone-deaf, she was pretty sure Kwan's name would appear as the first entry. For as athletically inclined and blessed with powerlifting genetics as the teenager was, his musical skills were....well, not even lacking, they were nonexistent. It was as if Kwan had never tried to sing before in his life. But, either through Ember's spell, his general affinity to being a total airhead, or a combination of both, he was so invested in belting out every approximation to a note that he could muster that he didn't notice the instantly dulled crowd around him as people began snapping out of their hypnosis.
"What happened?" a girl muttered nearby.
"Why does my head hurt?" a boy said.
"Ugh, what's that awful sound?"
"Ember! One thing remains!"
“I think that boy is dying.”
“Should someone call an ambulance?”
"No!" Ember screeched, her legs disappearing into a ghost tail as she abandoned all pretense of acting human and clawed at Kwan.
Sam raised a hand and blasted her away.
Ember recovered swiftly, pulling up midair and grabbing her guitar off her back. "You!" she bellowed, and then strummed a note, sending shockwaves crashing into the crowd that Sam couldn't dodge.
"Ah!" Sam was forced to kneel under the pressure of the soundwaves. Around her, people screamed.
She activated her ice and used it to push her body upright. Gripping onto one ice tower for support, she raised her other hand and sent a blast of ice Ember's way.
Ember dodged smoothly, but the movement had taken her hand off her guitar, and thus interrupted her torturous playing.
Sam steadied herself with the reprieve. Beside her, Kwan groaned, now waking up too after Ember’s attack.
"Ugh…where am I?"
"Don't worry about it," Sam hissed. Then she spun around, grabbing the microphone from Kwan's hand to address the crowd. "Attention everyone! The ghost Ember is targeting this area! Go home or run to a safe zone!"
"You little twerp!" Ember screeched from above.
Meanwhile, the crowd was looking at her blankly.
"Wait...since when is Phantom a girl?" Kwan asked.
Ah. That would be why.
Sighing, she raised the microphone back to her lips. "Yes, everyone, I'm Phantom's...sister. Yup, I'm his sister! He's, uh, on vacation right now and asked me to cover for him! Hello, nice to meet you all. Now please RUN!"
And with that, the crowd took off, running in every which direction. It was chaos, but the people were leaving and that's what Sam wanted.
She dropped the microphone and turned around to face her foe. "Hey, Ember!" she called, her voice catty.
"You're not Phantom's sister. Who the hell are you?"
Sam floated into the air until she was at eye-level with the rocker ghost. "I'm Sam! Remember me? I'm Danny's best friend."
"I thought the geeky weirdo nerd was his best friend."
"I'm the other best friend!"
It took a moment before recognition dawned on her features. Her green eyes widened, and the blue flames on her hair somehow sharpened as she leaned forward, eyes narrowing and lips curving into a smile as she said, "Ooh, I remember you. You were the one who ruined my debut!"
Sensing the challenge, Sam flared her aura in kind. "That's right! Now I've returned."
“Since when were you a ghost?”
“Don’t worry about it!”
"I’m not. I'm gonna make you pay, dipstick number two!"
Ember raised her purple pick to strum just as Sam hoisted her glowing hand up. The two released their powers simultaneously and their energies clashed in midair, sending ectoplasm and sonic booms crashing all around.
Below them, people screamed and ducked down, cowering as the blasts showered over them.
Sam blanched, but barely had time to take in the damage before she saw Ember's hand raised again, her guitar poised for another attack.
"Shit!" Sam raised both hands this time, pushing more energy into the countering blast. But she missed, and Ember's wave hit her like a semi truck.
She was catapulted down, slamming onto the pavement which cracked under her. Pain blossomed on her head, and she thought her vision may have flickered for a second.
But while this kind of injury would have certainly sent her to the emergency room as a human, as a ghost, all she could feel was the adrenaline pumping through her veins. She rolled over and shot out to the side, narrowly dodging Ember's next attack. The edges of the sonic blast still hit her, but she was able to push through the pressure and climb back into the air.
She couldn't fight Ember here. Not so close to all these people.
When Ember raised her hand again, grinning wickedly, Sam shot a blast of ice over to her. Though this time, aiming for the strings of her guitar.
It was a risk, but it paid off. The ice met its mark milliseconds before Ember's pick landed, and at once, the guitar strings were covered in a layer of ice.
Sam laughed. "It's my first day as a ghost, did I forget to mention that? How does it feel to be beaten by a newbie?"
Ember's face darkened, cheeks flushing with green. "Why you little asshole!"
"Oh yeah?" Sam goaded. "Why don't you say that to my face?"
Without waiting for a reply, Sam took off in the other direction. She had the thermos, but Ember wasn't weak enough yet for it to trap her inside. Sam had to wear her down first.
"Get back here!" Ember shouted, but Sam paid no heed, racing down the street and twisting between buildings.
The wind whipped across her body, stinging her exposed cheeks. Cold tears welled at the corners of her eyes, but she made no move to wipe them away. Ember was gaining on her. She needed to fly faster, fly faster.
She pushed her core more until it was at its limits. Street signs, LED lights, and the shapes of people blurred into one. She'd never moved this fast in her life, and like driving down an icy road, she could feel her control slowly slipping away. Panicked, she called forth her intangibility.
Fatigue was beginning to bubble in her chest, but she batted it away. It was too early. She couldn't give up yet.
Ember screamed behind her, hurling fire from her hair. It licked Sam's spectral tail, and she yelped, rolling sideways and narrowly avoiding the brunt of the attack.
She shot down an alley and out the other side into a residential neighborhood. Looking around, she didn't see anyone out and about nearby.
Perfect.
She stopped in the air and whipped around just in time to see Ember throw another fire blast her way.
Sam raised her hands, forming an ice shield. The fire melted it instantly, and she tried to form another, but she wasn't quick enough.
"Shit!" Sam yelled, ducking down as the fire sailed over her head. She could feel the heat singe the tip of her ponytail. Too close.
"That's right! Cower, dipstick! Just lie down and give up!"
Sam straightened, firing another ectoblast back at Ember, who dodged it by a hair's breadth. "The only person cowering here is you, hiding behind all those fake fans!"
Ember glared, her eyes burning with rage. "They're my fans and you took them from me!"
"You hypnotized them! They were never your fans to begin with!" Then she paused. "Well, Tucker might have been your fan anyway, but still!"
That didn't seem to quell Ember's rage, who sent a gust of fire that Sam only barely had time to counter with a blast of ice.
"Just admit it! You've lost!" Sam said. "So why don't you pack up and go home?"
"I can still get them back!"
Sam had to refrain from rolling her eyes hard enough to send them flying off her skull. "No, you can't. I won't let you!"
"Like you're the boss of me!" Ember geared up to shoot more fire at Sam, but then out of seemingly nowhere, a blast of green nailed her shoulder.
Sam spun around, the question dying from her lips the moment she saw who was behind her.
Tucker stumbled out from between two houses. He coughed, half hunched over from panting so hard, half cheering with a single-raised fist. "Booya!" he gasped, sucking in air in between each word. "And that's...what I...like...to call...a sneak attack."
And with that, he collapsed on the ground in a sweating heap of gaudy orange and yellow clothing.
"Tucker!" Sam shouted, reaching out as if to save him.
"Who?" Ember asked.
"Sam!" came another voice from Tucker's hiding place, this one filling her with relief.
Well, until he stepped out into view and she remembered how entirely ridiculous he looked in her black skater skirt, purple leggings, and black crop top.
She grinned. "Danny!"
"I'm all good!" Tucker craned his head up from the sidewalk. "Don't...don't worry about me! I'm gucci here!"
"I'm so glad my mom didn't kidnap and murder you!" Sam said.
Danny smiled mischievously. "Your mom spotted me as planned, and then I ran in the other direction. Managed to shake her off somewhere between Elmer's Park and the Nasty Burger. As far as she's aware, we got out of downtown safely! Though, she might ground you later for ignoring her when she was following you."
"She was....so fast..."
"And persistent," Danny added.
"That...too..."
Sam face-palmed. "Oh man, I'm so grounded later."
"Yup! You are." Danny said, seeming far too cheery for the torturous news he'd just delivered to Sam.
"Okay, okay. Pause." Ember held up her hands in the universal time-out gesture. "What the fuck is going on here, exactly?"
"Oh, hey, Ember!" Danny said as if noticing her for the first time. "How's it hanging?"
"How's it hanging?" Ember guffawed. She pointed to Sam. "Well, your sister just ruined my evening, so pretty shit, actually."
Danny didn't look at all remorseful as he responded, "Oh, bummer! Well, I'll just have to let this supposed-sister handle the rest of it. As you can tell, I'm really not dressed for the ghost-fighting occasion!"
He turned to Sam, offering her a thumbs-up as he said, "You got this!"
Sam smirked, folded her arms, and turned back to Ember.  "Yeah, I do got this."
"For sure!" Tucker added, though he still sounded far too on the verge of passing out to offer any sort of confidence.
"So, Ember, you wanna go for round two?" Sam asked.
Ember blinked, gaze swiveling between Sam and Danny, and then again, before she threw her hands up and cried, "No, seriously, what the fuck?"
"I ask myself that same question every day," Tucker said.
"It's called an outfit swap!" Danny said, sweeping his hands over his outfit. "It's all the rage with us teens nowadays."
"You look fucking insane, you know," Ember said.
"You mean I look gorgeous."
"I didn't."
"I think Sam pulls off the ghost look pretty well, though. Don't you think?" Danny asked.
"It's totally goth," Sam agreed, flipping her hair over her shoulder. Then, summoning some ectoplasmic energy to her palms, she added, "I think the green really suits me, too."
"It does!" Danny said.
"I'm so confused."
"Aren't we all?" Tucker said.
"You know what? No." Ember threw her hands up. "Nope! Fuck this shit. Listen, I don't know what the hell is going on, but I refused to be sucked into your weirdo shenanigans tonight. I'm out of here!"
Sam's brows raised in shock. Was confusing Ember really all it took to get her to go back to the Ghost Zone? "You're being for real?" she asked.
"Yup!" Ember pivoted around until her back was to the trio. "I'm going back to the Zone. I'm tired. See ya!"
And with that, she disappeared.
The three of them waited a heartbeat, and then another. But then, Sam felt it: the telltale coolness of her chest receding as her ghost sense ceased detecting Ember around her.
Tucker struggled to his feet. "Are we sure she's actually going to the Ghost Zone?"
"Yeah, she will," Danny said, unconcerned. "When she gives you that look, you know she's over it."
"Wow, congrats then, Sam. You beat Ember!"
Celebratory giddiness washed over her, and she didn't try to fight the smile that overtook her lips. "Wow. Yeah, guys, I did it! I beat Ember!"
Above them, a window slid open. Then, a voice boomed out into the open air, filling the street with a cry so insane, that Sam could have sworn her head exploded right then and there.
"WHOA! PHANTOM! IS THAT YOU?"
Danny cringed, ducking down into his hands while Sam plastered a smile on her face and turned around to meet who could easily turn into her greatest foe of the evening: Dash Baxter.
"Uh, hi," Sam said.
He gasped and leaned so far, he nearly fell out his window. "IT IS YOU! MY WISH CAME TRUE!"
"Your...wish?" Sam asked.
"YEAH! I WISHED PHANTOM WAS A HOT CHICK INSTEAD OF BEING A DUDE, AND THEN BA-BAM! YOU TURNED INTO A HOT CHICK!"
Below them, Tucker guffawed. Thankfully, Dash seemed too preoccupied in his fanboying to notice.
"I CAN'T BELIEVE MY WISH CAME TRUE! THANK GOD! IT WAS TOO WEIRD CRUSHING ON A DUDE, YOU KNOW?"
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Danny slowly make his way back between the houses and, thankfully, out of Dash's eyeline.
For as exhausted as Tucker was, he quickly followed suit.
"Well...um...thanks? I guess?" Sam looked around as if to plan her escape. But unfortunately, she couldn't see one. It would have been so much easier if Ember had lied and instead of returning to the Ghost Zone, tried to attack her right here and now. That might have been preferable to whatever the hell was happening in front of her.
When the silence turned from awkward to entirely painful, Sam jabbed her thumb over her shoulder and said, "Uh, I'm gonna go now."
"WAIT!"
"What?" Sam asked, internally admonishing herself for responding.
"WILL YOU BE MY GHOST GIRLFRIEND?"
She heard a choke of laughter sound from behind the house, and she shot a glare to the two idiots in hiding.
"Thanks for asking, but...sorry, I have to say no. I'm very busy fighting ghosts, you know."
Dash nodded with more empathy in his eyes than Sam had ever seen him display in his life. "I UNDERSTAND. THANKS ANYWAY AND ENJOY THE TITS!"
Sam would have loved to say that she maintained Phantom's pristine people-pleasing image by giving grace to every single citizen no matter what.
But, of course, Dash was a fucking moron. And as far as Sam was concerned, morons like him deserved to have their face punched in every once in a while.
So, shaking the bruise from her knuckles, she rejoined her friends. Danny's face was beet red, while Tucker, on the other hand, was wheezing laughing so hard, his airy gasps of, "I'm going to piss myself" took about five tries to sound intelligible.
"No funny, Tucker!" Sam glared.
"Are you kidding?" His eyes were wet with tears. "That was hilarious! Dash has a crush on both of you! Oh my god, that was the single greatest thing to ever happen in my life!"
Danny fell to his knees and raked his fingers over his face. "I'm never living this down, am I?"
"Never!" Tucker howled.
"I want to go back to a time where I never had to hear Dash speak," Sam mourned, then she flexed her fists, brightening slightly. "Though, punching him felt pretty cathartic!"
"Wish that were me," Danny bemoaned.
"He'll probably blame you for it anyway, so consider it done."
Tucker doubled over, rasping in uncontrollable laughter all over again. "Oh man, and you punched him! You actually punched him!"
"Hell yeah I did." Her eyes glinted over to Danny, who was still growing redder by the second. "Call that payback for getting me grounded."
"Fair," he said.
"I can't fucking believe you punched him, and that he has the hots for y'all—this is the greatest day of my LIFE"
"Yeah, yeah, laugh it up!"
"You know," Sam said, cutting the boys off, "at least we learned something."
"Yeah, we did," Tucker giggled, clearly not thinking along the same lines as her.
Sam zapped him with her finger and ignored his subsequent yelp, continuing, "We learned that he wished for you to change! I bet you anything Desiree was the cause of this."
Danny perked up. "Wait, you're right! If Dash wished this, that definitely means Desiree was involved."
"So, what? We just find her and wish ourselves back to normal again?" Tucker asked.
That was, in fact, exactly what it meant.
The trio searched high and low for any unusual wishes that had come to light, but unfortunately for them, it seemed that Desiree had practiced laying on the down-low since her last escapade into the Human Realm. That also meant she was incredibly difficult to find.
So difficult, in fact, that despite searching for her for another two hours and Sam receiving a text from her mom stating that if Sam didn't get her ass home right now, missy, then the cops were going to be called, they didn't actually find a single wisp of Desiree at all.
Well, not until in a moment of complete and utter exasperation, did Tucker throw in the metaphorical towel and shout into the air, "Ugh! Where is she? I wish Desiree would just show herself already so we could finally go home!"
The wind picked up, and a transcendental feminine voice graced the air, saying, "And so you have wished it, and so it shall be...."
Danny—now back in his normal attire—stared dumbstruck at Tucker. "I can't believe none of us thought of that earlier."
"Oh my god, guys, we're idiots," he agreed.
Sam could do little more than nod numbly as stray leaves and twigs gathered gently in the air, spiraling until the graceful form of Desiree, dressed in her blue and purple Persian attire, appeared before them. Her thick, black hair flowed down her back, fading at the ends midway down her spectral tail. She raised a silver-bangled hand, her glowing green skin standing out in the night air, and said, "Hello, you three. I had a feeling I would be seeing you soon."
"Yeah, you think?" Danny asked. "What gives?"
"I was merely granting a wish." Her red eyes trailed over to Sam, hovering at the ready just in case. "Though, it seems that you've already caught on."
"You could say that," Sam answered.
Desiree clasped her hands together, looking almost like a ballerina as she did so. "I'm assuming you would like me to set you right again?"
"Yes," Danny said readily.
"Please. I'm so tired," Tucker agreed.
Sam tilted her head. Despite the rocky start to her day, she'd done pretty damn well as a halfa if she did say so herself. And now that she was starting to get the hang of these ghost powers, they were very fun.
But in fairness, they weren't really her ghost powers to begin with. As fun as they were to borrow for the day, she knew she had to return them to their rightful owner. Even if it pained her to do so.
"Alright," she relented. "You can take them back. It's not like I'm going to be able to use them with how grounded I'm about to be, anyway."
"I'd be surprised if your mom didn't put surveillance in your room after this," Tucker said.
Yeah, she'd be surprised too.
Danny stepped forward, head held high as he commanded, "I wish my ghost core was back in my body!"
"So you have wished it, so it shall be!"
The air picked up around them, and Sam felt her body rise as an invisible blanket gently wrapped itself around her and hoisted her into the air. Her aura glowed like a thousand lightning bugs illuminating at once, and she shut her eyes, letting it take over. The core in her chest stirred, and her body was plunged into a snowstorm as it seemed to expand, growing stronger, stronger, until Sam was sure it would burst. But just before it became unbearable, like a marionette on a string, it was gently guided from her chest.
She gasped, her breath freezing in her lungs as the glowing orb of pure ectoplasmic energy exited her body. Her eyes flew open, and she watched as it slowly drifted to Danny who was floating across the way.
As soon as it entered his body, she felt the liquid ice that had been a constant in her veins since she'd woken up begin to recede as her enshrouding aura began to pull toward Danny. As the last strands of it left her fingertips, she was tenderly lowered to the ground.
Heat rushed into Sam’s body, filling in the gaps where the chill had abandoned her. A shiver crawled up her spine, and then her body settled, the heat dispersing around her torso, spreading out to the tips of her fingers and toes. It felt…strangely right, somehow, even as her chest was missing that persistent core.
There was a moment of silence where the world seemed to hold its breath, and then Danny raised a timid hand to his chest, and a grin spread across his lips. “I’m back.”
“Thank fuck!” Tucker cheered. “Now I can finally go home and sleep!”
“Congrats, Danny.” Sam offered a small smile, flexing her now-human fingers. Without the cold, all her bruises were beginning to hurt. At least the one on her knuckles was for a good cause.
“Thanks for keeping this safe for me,” Danny said.
“No problem.”
Desiree brushed the invisible dirt off her clothing. “Well, now that my work is done, I assume I’ll be off.”
“To the Ghost Zone, right?” Danny flashed his eyes at her.
It was a challenge, of course, that she picked up on instantly, giving a wry smile in return. “But of course.”
Danny insisted on accompanying her to the portal, which while he claimed was only because he wanted to be polite, Sam knew fully well was because he didn't trust her as far as he could throw her, even if their relationship had improved since their first few encounters. But true to her word, Desiree took the directive with grace, going through the portal to the Ghost Zone with little more than the tilt of her head Sam's way.
They watched the swirling green fizzle out from where Desiree had left them, and with a final sigh, Danny closed the portal doors behind her.
Tucker nearly slumped over his chair. "Oh, thank god. I thought this day was never going to end."
"Right?" Sam yawned, fatigue washing over her. "I'm beat."
"Well, at least you don't have to worry about not having the ghost powers anymore. 'Cause after this, your mom is definitely going to kill you."
Her stomach dropped. "Oh, fuck. I'd forgotten about that."
"At least you won't have to feel Dash's disappointment at being punched by his hero tomorrow." Danny slumped over.
"You could punch him too, you know. There's nothing stopping you," Sam pointed out.
Where she thought he would argue with her, he just tilted his head, as if weighing the options. "You know," he started, speaking slow. "I guess...yeah, I mean, I could punch him. It's not like I haven't already gotten enough detentions. One more wouldn't hurt. Or, do you think they'd suspend me?"
"Are you kidding?" Tucker snorted. "Dale and Austin were swinging at each other last week and they were sent back to class an hour later."
"Fair point."
"Alright, I better go home before my mom calls SWAT. Danny?"
"On it!" Danny sauntered over to them both, transforming. "Let’s get you guys back home."
"I've never heard such sweet words come out of your mouth before," Tucker said.
"Oh, shut up."
Sam wrapped her arm around his cold body, and instead of the ominous chill she normally felt around ghosts—even Danny, though she'd never tell him—this time, it felt oddly familiar. Comforting, even.
"I did pretty good today, admit it." She smirked at him.
"Don't get cocky now." He returned the grin and took off into the air. This time when he turned invisible and intangible to shoot through the basement, it was almost nostalgic to her skin. And when the air rushed over her face, she felt herself preen like a peacock in its gusts.
"But yes," Danny said, leaning into her once they leveled out over the air. "You did awesome."
She already knew she had, but the validation still made her feel warm all the same.
Well, until she had to step through her front door, at which point the click of a high heel and a screeching "SAMANTHA EMILY MANSON" pierced her ears.
And thus, her second death of the day commenced.

“Taylor? Are you listening to a word I said?”
I jumped, nearly knocking my water bottle over. “N-No. I’m sorry. What were you saying?” I asked sheepishly.
Rachel smiled sympathetically. “Still worried about the break-in?” she asked. I nodded, as I had told everyone that that was the reason why I was so jumpy.
I liked Rachel. Despite being almost twenty years older than me, she was sort of my only friend outside the circle of misfits and monsters I had embedded myself in. She also didn’t live in New Hope, thankfully. She was a transfer from a bigger town, since our library desperately needed one after one of our librarians “mysteriously disappeared” last August.
Said librarian’s assistant had also “mysteriously vanished” as well, leaving a job wide open for me to fill. I didn’t mind it, being Rachel’s assistant. I might have to do grunt work a lot of the time, but at least she helped instead of just dumping it all on me.
“Anyways, as I was saying, I’m pretty sure no one has gone through the donation bin this decade, if you want to make a dent in it.”
Sitting on my ass while I sort for the next two hours? “Don’t threaten me with a good time,” I said, earning a chuckle from her as I stood up and left the front desk.
There were several boxes. She wasn’t kidding. This was going to take longer than I thought. Setting my phone off to the side, I pressed play on one of my safe-for-work playlists and started humming along to some Chappell Roan.
It had been a few days since the incident with the pale creature that had come onto my porch. There had been no repeat occurrences at our place, but someone had said something about seeing a sick-looking coyote at the edge of their yard. I hadn’t mentioned that to Nick, since I wasn’t even sure that it was the same thing that I had seen.
And Nick was… I couldn’t burden him with any more problems. Between his time at the new tattoo place, townspeople coming to him for remedies to their ailments, and not being able to sleep very well, he was exhausted. I had woken up to him passed out on his couch this morning, Lydia loafing on his back. If I could make him sleep for an entire day, I would do it in a heartbeat.
I pulled the next box towards me and dug through the dusty contents. I was sure now that most of these donations were just from older ladies dumping the contents of their attics off on us just to free up some space. Several of these books so far were the same cookbook in different states of decay.
I was just about to ask Rachel for a mask since I was tired of sneezing out dust when my hand pulled out a book that was different from all the others. A quick flip through revealed it was a journal. Either their handwriting was terrible or it was written in a different language, because I couldn’t make heads or tails of what it was saying. But some of the drawings in it intrigued me, so I set it in the Keep Pile, with the intention to ask Rachel what to do with it. If someone donated it without knowing, they might want it back.
By the end of my shift, my back and lungs didn’t appreciate what work I had gotten done. “Being in your thirties must be rough,” Rachel laughed as I tried popping my back several times. “Maybe you could get that cute boyfriend of yours to help you out later tonight.”
I felt a brief flush rise to the surface of my skin as I thought about Nick’s skilled fingers. “Quit it,” I mumbled, earning a cackle from her that would normally get someone in a library in trouble.
“What’s that?” she asked, pointing to the journal in my hands.
“Oh, I found it in one of the boxes. It looks like somebody might’ve accidentally put it in the donation box. Should we ask if they want it back?” I said.
Rachel shook her head. “Sorry buttercup,” she said, using her nickname for me. “Those were anonymous, and who knows how long ago it was donated. There’s no way we’d be able to trace it back to its owner. Unless it has historic value, we’re supposed to throw it out.”
Something in my face must’ve changed her mind. “Well, if you don’t want to, I could conveniently look the other way when you leave,” she said.
I was about to say that no, that it was fine, that I didn’t need another written book in my house when Nick was still combing through Granny’s hex books, but the words caught in my throat and I thanked her instead. Maybe if I could find its owner, that would be one good deed I’d done for this town, since they were still wary of me several months after I had moved in.
The library closed at seven, but I didn’t get to go to my car until half an hour later. Late April still meant that it was dark out when I left work, but the building was in the middle of New Hope, the forest a ways off. I dashed to my car through the rain, the water from the puddles splashing up as my feet crashed down in them.
My fingers were wrapped around the car’s door handle when  a cold rush of air blew through my denim jacket, and the hair on the back of my neck stood up. I froze as the door automatically unlocked, the sound as loud as a gunshot despite the sound of the rain. Something in the reflection of the car window caught my eye.
Someone was behind me.
I slowly turned around, trying not to startle it. Meanwhile, my mind was racing in confusion and fear. Nothing came out of the woods. The town was safe.
The boys couldn’t help me if something were to happen to me out here.
So what was the shadowy figure doing in the middle of a parking lot?
It didn’t move as I stared at it. It was almost formless; I could just make out the thin, vaguely humanoid shape of it. Even if I wanted to say something, my throat had closed shut. The chill of the night increased, the wind picking up and sending some bits of trash skittering across the asphalt. But it didn’t disturb the shadow.
I opened my mouth to say… something? Shout at it to scare it away? But another voice startled me into screaming. I whipped around.
“Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, Taylor!” Rachel swore, hand on her heart. She was standing a few feet away under her umbrella. “What’re you still doing here? Are you okay?”
“Uhh… yeah. Just thought I saw something,” I said. I turned back around.
Other than us, the parking lot was empty.

The smell of food coming through a cracked window greeted me as I stepped onto the front porch. My knees felt weak at the thought of Nick cooking after the heart attack I had had. I took a moment to compose myself, exhaling as I turned the doorknob and stepped into our home.
It was indeed Nick cooking, as he stood in front of the stove. His long black hair was tied up in a bun, and he was wearing his thick-rimmed glasses. “Hiya,” he said, not even turning around.
I dropped my backpack onto one of the chairs at the kitchen table, immediately walking over and hugging him from behind. “Woah, hey. Everything alright?” He asked. His hand moved down to cover both of mine.
I should tell him; I need to tell him. Instead, I nodded into the space between his shoulders. Even though a part of me knew that the creepiness of the town's legends were true, I still couldn't believe that something would come out of the woods and into the safeness of the streets.
So what I said instead was, “I missed you,” into his shirt.
“Missed you more,” he said in return, despite seeing each other this morning.
“What are you making?” I asked, peering over his shoulder.
“Just some hamburger pasta. Thought it would be good for an easy night, since it's just the two of us until later tonight.”
“Really? Not even Folio?” I asked.
Without looking up, Nick pointed over at the kitchen calendar with the spoon in his free hand. A little black circle was drawn on today's date and the next two days. The New Moons meant that Folio was stuck in his Grim form until the first sliver of the moon shined. Kind of like a werewolf but opposite.
“It'll be done in a few. Go get comfortable and I'll put on a movie,” he said, his own way of shooing me out of the kitchen. As I parted with him, I saw that he hadn't done the same with Lydia, who was watching from the floor with her hungry eyes.
As I changed into some lounge pants and an old sweater of Nick's, I tried to think of a way to bring up the encounter with the shadow person. There was no way that he wouldn't get upset about it, that was a fact. Maybe after we ate.
When I came back out into the front room, Nick had helped himself to making my plate and putting it on the coffee table. I sat down next to him, I pulled my plate onto my lap. He had pulled up Rise of Skywalker for us to watch.
“So who’s coming later?” I asked as he started the movie.
“Noah,” Nick mumbled. There was an undercurrent of something in his voice, so I guess Noah had transferred something to his mind that annoyed him.
“That's fine,” I said, squeezing his thigh.
After eating, I curled up into Nick, and he wrapped an arm around my shoulders. “We should dress up as Kylo and Rey for Halloween again,” he said.
“Your hair’s getting too long for you to be Kylo,” I said, poking the side of his head.
“Yeah, because Rey is totally a blonde.”
“It was last minute!”
We kept up the light commentary for most of the film. I was fine up until the part when Rey sacrificed herself to kill the Emperor. As Ben Solo sacrificed himself to resurrect her, I threaded my fingers through his. A moment passed, and then Nick squeezed my hand.
When the credits rolled, I tried to get up to take our dishes back to the kitchen sink. Nick pulled me back down. “And where do you think you’re going?” he asked, pulling me onto his lap. He wrapped his arms around me.
“Was gonna do the dishes, since you made dinner,” I said.
He pulled my head gently to rest on his shoulder. “Just stay here. With me,” he said, quietly. He would do this if he thought I was about to have one of my moments.
He started playing with my hair, making my eyes flutter shut. “Okay,” I said.
He kissed my forehead, but as he was pulling away, I reached up to cup his face and direct him further down. His lips brushed mine before pressing down once, soft and tender, but then he tried pulling away again. “Are you su–”
“Nick,” I pleaded, his name coming out in a rush. If he had any resolve before, it came crumbling down within milliseconds.
He was still a bit hesitant, flicking his tongue against my lips. But I wasn’t made of glass, so I pushed his chest until his back was pressed onto the couch cushions. I crawled up him until I was straddling his hips, my knees pressing into the sides of his waist. The kiss never broke.
It didn’t take long for him to harden beneath me, and I couldn’t help the small, satisfactory grin that rose to my lips. I ran my hand down his chest, down his stomach to the waistband of his shorts. When I finally parted with Nick, his hand shot up to curl around the back of my head. “Bun–”
“Can I touch you?” I asked.
“Oh, fuck yes. Please,” he pleaded.
I lifted myself a little bit, just enough to give me some room to slip my hand underneath the waistband of his boxer-briefs. The angle might’ve been a little bit awkward, but it didn’t really matter when I wrapped my fingers around the considerable size of him.
“Fuck,” he groaned, throwing his head back against the pillows. The movement caused him to bare the pretty tan skin over his throat, and I practically descended upon it. The minute I mouthed over his pulse point, his hips rolled up, rutting into my hand. On the upstroke I rubbed my thumb over the tip, and he made my favorite sound of–
Click.
We both froze, my hand down his pants. I quickly raised my head and our eyes locked on each other at the sound of the door unlocking. As the front door opened, I quickly rose up to stand on my knees. Noah stopped dead in his tracks, confusion written on his face.
“Am I interrupting something?” he asked.
“Yes,” I said immediately, Nick echoing my words from below me.
Noah’s eyes roamed over me for a second, and his face hardened. “Please, continue. I don’t want to interrupt you guys making out in–”
Nick sat up, crawling out from underneath me. If he stood up, Noah could easily see that we were doing more than making out. “When we agreed on later, I mean late.”
“It’s after eleven. I think that’s late enough,” Noah said, striding across the kitchen to the fridge, where he took out a beer.
As Nick straightened himself, I caught the look on his face that said he was communicating with Noah through the bond that he had with everyone. Was there something agreed upon that didn’t require me knowing about?
My thought was all but confirmed when Nick put his hand on my waist. “You wanna go to bed, Bun?” he asked, looking up at me with big green eyes. In this lighting, they were dark as the evergreens outside.
“No, I’m not tired,” I said. I fixed him with a look that said that I wasn’t going to be kept in the dark. Again.
He sighed. “Hang on, I gotta get the hex book,” he said, standing up. He then walked to the spare bedroom.
I looked over at Noah, who was leaning back against the fridge. He perked an eyebrow. “How was work?” he asked before taking a sip of his beer.
I narrowed my eyes at him. “I was gonna tell him.”
“But you got distracted, didn’t you?”
“Fuck off, Bambi.”
“Oh, I’m about to do worse than that.”
I tilted my head. “What the fuck is that supposed to mean?”
Nick came back with a small, leatherbound notebook. He tossed it onto the kitchen table, as if it personally offended him. “We’ve been doing this all wrong,” he said. He practically collapsed into one of the chairs.
“Doing what wrong? What is ‘this’?” I asked.
“There’s a reason why the Valley has been getting worse these past few years. More things showing up, resurfacing, growing bolder enough to where people can catch glimpses of them. Pale Things showing up shouldn’t be a surprise, really.” He was babbling, practically. But then he took in a deep breath and closed his eyes.
“Those sacrifices weren’t just for Vessels. They were also to keep the Woods from getting worse.”
Noah’s lips thinned. “I told you, I’m not killing any more innocent people.”
“Yeah, I know, and I think I found a way around that, but…” Nick trailed off. He then silently opened the hex book and flipped to a page he had marked. He then held it out towards me.
“Why me?” I asked.
“I’ve already seen it,” Noah said.
I took the book and glanced at the pages. It wasn’t in any readable context: Granny wrote in some kind of “language” that had been passed down through her family as to keep their practice a secret from others. Nick had been slowly translating them over the past few months into his own notebooks.
“What is this?” I finally asked.
“It's a… Fertility Ritual.” Nick swallowed thickly. “My ancestors would send someone into the forest so the Forest would be… sated.”
“A sacrifice. Like what happened with you guys.” I waved a hand over Noah.
“No! Well… sort of,” Nick said. He bit his lip.
“That was more the Black Stag's version. Though it wanted sacrifices so it could take a mortal form.” Noah folded his arms over his chest. “This is a… less bloody version.”
I skimmed over the page again, and it finally clicked. “When you say ‘fertility’, you mean… Noah's got to knock someone up?”
“No!” The two shouted at the same time. “God, fuck no,” Nick sighed. “But the baby making process is the main part.”
“He has to have sex with someone?” I asked incredulously.
“Not just someone…” Nick lowered his voice to a mumble. “Someone with a… someone of the opposite sex.”
“Well how the fuck is he gonna do that?” I asked. “Everyone around here will recognize him, and then you got the antlers to deal with.”
The two were quiet suddenly. Nick put his head in his hands. “Bun…”
“What?”
“He's talking about you,” Noah put bluntly.

Note
I just wanted to say a few things.
#1 you are an amazing writer, and your work gave me a reason to pick up a book again.
#2 If Bill can disasozeate (pardon my spelling) for millions of years, why does he simply not do that in The Void? Perhaps it is the feeling of control. He cannot leave the void unless he is let out and that is terrifying to him. Perhaps it is that he is waiting on nothing. I remember it was stated in that same chapter that he feels as if he is waiting on nothing.
#3 how to I view your older chapters on this fic? I am extremely new to Tumblr and I just got here from your A03. Do I simply have to keep scrolling? Thank you very much and please have a truly wonderful day! :D

'Ight so nvm, I am dumb and did not read your pinned comment.
I cannot wait to read more of your fantastic work!
:D
hey, you found it and that's what's important lol. God it would be such a dick move if i forced people to even just scroll back through all the posts I've tagged about this fic, considering uh,
Tumblr media
... that's a lot of tagged posts.
Re: #2: I think you asked me the same question on AO3, but as far as I know AO3 doesn't send email notifications to guest accounts, so you probably didn't see my reply over there! So I'll copy-paste it here. (If you DID see my reply... lol sorry for copy/pasting at you.)
Humans can meditate for hours on end with no serious long-term psychological effects. But total sensory deprivation can make it impossible to tell whether your eyes are open or shut within 10 minutes and can induce hallucinations within 15 minutes. There's a huuuge difference between not much stimulation and NO stimulation.
And I don't think Bill ever once in his life experienced a pure void before Theraprism. OUTSIDE the Nightmare Realm, realities come and go, and his options are limited when there's no nearby dimensions for him to contact; but the Nightmare Realm is always, always there, never empty, and Bill's always in it.
Even if Bill HAD been in total voids before—voluntarily dissociating vs being locked in the solitary wellness void is like the difference between swimming underwater and being held underwater by your throat. Sure, you could just hold your breath to cope with being held underwater—after all, you can probably hold your breath for 30-60 seconds! Why would you panic in under 5 seconds?
But in reality you probably WOULD panic in under 5 seconds. You wouldn't simply calmly hold your breath and wait to be let up. Not unless you agreed to be held underwater, knew how long you'd be held under, and trusted that you'd be let up—and even then, you'd probably have to consciously suppress the instinct to struggle. If you had NONE of those reassurances? You'd panic, flail, and fight. Even though you COULD "simply" hold your breath.
Bill did not agree to go in the water, and he has no way of knowing when or if they'll let him up for air.

Well, I wanna be working on a novel right now, but apparently it's time to make a certain kind of post again, as is periodically necessary, because young queer folk keep trying to reinvent the Hayes Code for a variety of misguided reasons. So you know what? Let me lead with the TLDR, and then give my reasoning. If you DNI stuff like incest, I am not just going to unfollow you, I am going to block you.
Now, if you're the type to make assumptions, you might be surprised to hear that I'm not into incest. Sorry to disappoint. Well, unless you count selfcest, but people don't usually lump those together except by technicality. But incest is really not my thing.
That said, I have mutuals who are into it, and harmless about it. Whether it's fictional, RP, or consensual, it's not my business and it hurts nobody. Get used to those words, they're gonna be a mantra here. Further, I've seen how Hayes Queers (hey, I needed a term for them) talk about harmless members of their own community who give them The Ick. The post I'm writing here is a direct reaction to seeing a Hayes Queer post from someone I followed! Reading that, and the comments on it. And lemme tell you: y'all are very quick to throw your peers under the bus with the exact same logic (respectability politics, personal disgust, "making a bad name for us as a larger group", lurking threat to our moral purity) that the conservatives are using to argue for the mass extermination of queer folk. You are bringing pitchforks and tiki torches to the party. So no, I am not going to give you access to my vulnerable mutuals. That's the heart of it. You are a danger to your community, and I'm going to limit the scope of harm you can do. The broader queer/kink communities have worked hard to define harm more carefully than "well I just personally think it's gross." Scat and piss are gross to me, but my mutuals who are into those things do still deserve love and safety, not to be sacrificed on an altar of conservative family values for imaginary "one of the good ones" points. I have a responsibility to look out for my people. So do you, FYI.
So here's the recipe for living online with people whose kinks aren't your business and hurt nobody: learn to scroll past those posts or block those tags, or even block that person. Be an adult. The world does not exist to be personally palatable to you. You are not being harmed, you're being inconvenienced. If you can't handle that, you're the one bringing real-world (rather than imagined) danger to your community. Fuck's sake.
This also finally convinced me to look up what "proshipper" means after seeing it in discourse for years, these dreaded dangerous devils who apparently must be purged from the internet, and... holy fuck, how is this contentious? It literally just means you can disagree about fandom pairings without harassing people? That's just mature behavior in a shared space. That's what the argument is about? Oh my god. If you're arguing about this in 2024, your Aunt Maddie is fully ashamed of you for real.
The dumbest part is that people get doxxed for saying the stuff I'm saying, and maybe it'll happen to me. Guess I'll roll the dice. Which comes full circle: if you're looking at this post and trying to decide how to punish me for it IRL, you are literally being the danger. Stop and think for 30 milliseconds. Maybe I have a point that you are a bigger threat than two trans girls who like to pretend to be sisters for sex reasons. And I don't wanna hear no trauma excuses from any of you little monkeys, fetishes come from trauma a decent percentage of the time, so a lot of the people you're persecuting are victims of the same kind of assault as you.
This is more words than I ever should have to write about a self-evident topic. I know if you're young enough and still figuring out a lot of life stuff from scratch, it may not be self-evident to you. But hopefully it is now before you fucking hurt somebody. Thanks.
