I know I've been gone for a while.

I apologize to anyone who was following any of my simmies' shenanigans.

I'm slowly updating my TS4 game, so I'll be able to play and hopefully start posting again. Considering I've ignored any updates since Growing Together....

We're thrilled to announce that we've wrapped principal development work on Slay the Princess — The Pristine Cut. We'll be releasing it this Fall (date TBD) so we can simultaneous ship the update with both the game's console release (surprise!) as well as official subtitling support for 11 new languages, all with the help of our wonderful new partners at Serenity Forge (who you might know from their publishing work on Doki Doki Literature Club Plus!)

There's a lot for us to share about The Pristine Cut, but before we get into the details, please check out our new trailer!

Here's what we've got coming for you: Content

For those of you who are just now hearing about The Pristine Cut, it's an entirely free director's cut of the game that adds about 35% more content on top of the initial release.

This includes massive expansions to The Den, The Apotheosis, and The Fury routes, each of which is over three times bigger than their release versions, with tons of variations to discover across multiple playthroughs.

On top of this, we're adding three brand new chapter three routes that will add even more depth to your stories with The Damsel, The Prisoner, and The Spectre.

And we're adding a new ending.

All in all, these additions come to over 2,500 new voice lines, over 1,200 new hand-drawn illustrations, and over 15 new tracks of music.

We're also adding an extensive CG gallery with over 400 unlocks to help all you completionists track your progress, complete with cryptic hints to help you discover some of the game's more obscure and buried interactions.

Languages

And all of this is coming with a giant wave of localization support, covering the following languages: Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Korean, Japanese, French, German, Russian, Spanish (Latin American), Brazilian Portuguese, Italian, and Polish. These localizations are just going to cover subtitles, so we can be as thorough as possible about maintaining the quality of Jonny and Nichole's performances.

Consoles, Physical Release and New Merch

With the help of Serenity Forge, we’re bringing Slay the Princess — The Pristine Cut to every major current console — Nintendo Switch, PS4 + 5, and Xbox.

And these won’t just be available as digital downloads. You’ll also be able to pick up a physical edition for the Switch and PS5, with an exclusive sticker sheet and a download code for the game’s soundtrack.

And if that’s not enough we’re also doing a Collector’s Edition, complete with a 7 inch statue of the Princess, a mirror with a lenticular lens, an acrylic standee, and more.

And finally (for now), we’re launching the first wave of new line of sticker sheets, featuring chibi art of the Princesses as seen in The Pristine Cut’s new gallery. Pre-order them now at Topatoco!

Alongside these developments, we've also launched a new website for the game: check out slaytheprincess.com where you can order the physical editions, check out merch, and more!

Also as a biromantic ace, but that's secondary.

Based on their conversation in mag 17 and some of Jon's comments in season 1 I'm convinced that Jon was a constant pain in Elias's ass from the minute he started at the institute. I also think that's a big part of why Elias chose Jon to be Archivist. Just...

The way they talk to eachother, Jon is, as always, unnecessary snippy and abrasive. Elias is patient but quietly exasperated. There's a definite familiarity there. They've had many conversations like this before. Then at the end of the episode Jon says

I like to imagine that Jon's been in Elias's office at least once a week since he started badgering him about whatever case he's working on. How many times has Elias had to give the old "record and study, not interfere or contain" speech?

Im just obsessed with Jon and Elias's comfortably antagonistic pre canon relationship. Like obviously Jon respects and maybe even looks up to Elias as an authority on his chosen field. But he's also comfortable enough with him to be his unadulterated bitchy self around him.

It's harder to tell what Elias thinks of Jon since at this point he is keeping his true nature under wraps. But I like to think he's got an exasperated affection for Jon. Kind of like a pet who's constantly getting into shit but is so cute you can't truely get mad at them.

Jon is an insufferable bastard and so is Elias even though he's (kind of) pretending not to be. Knowing Elias I bet he loves arguing with Jon, probably purposely riles him up because it amuses him. Of course Jon also enjoys arguing with Elias, it's like one of his main ways of communicating. They are have an ideal bastard for bastard relationship.

I bet the first time Jon came to Elias insisting they should do more with a case he was like, yes finally, this is exactly the obnoxious little guy I've been waiting for. Yes Elias chose Jon because he was marked by the spider but I think he also chose Jon because he liked him and was a little bit obsessed with him.

Thinking about a guest for Mr spider. How it so deeply changed Jon to his core. How it’s permanently marked him and no one would ever believe him.

How terrified he is of spiders.

How Martin tries to tell him spiders are just creatures trying to live life the same as all of them. But he didn’t see what they do behind those doors. He didn’t see them take away someone from him right infront of his eyes.

Do you think about how spiders also started the worm infestation? His first true fear started all this. I firmly believe he was a puppet even before the web touched him. He was made for this.

The infestation only starting because he startled from something so small.

Do you think about how a spider took someone away right infront front of him once more? Annabelle taking Martin- his Martin? And how he refused to let them get away with that despite being unable to see them? How determined he was? He hates spiders and yet he faced that all for him. Do you think Martin was able to hear some of the tapes one at a time, to hear Jon’s trembling voice as he speaks of the lietners? Suddenly it all made sense on why Jon believed those statements.

Why he was so firmly against the one statement about the one person being encased by spiders and webs. Because Jon feared that would be him. Or maybe the person he once knew.

I think about how spiders started the infestation a lot. I think about how terrified and utterly changed and scared an eight year old Jon was after that book a lot.

I don’t know if any of this makes sense but I hope it does.

I like to think Jon was forever doomed to be the Eyes pet. He was always going to be touched by the web no matter what, and Elias knew this. He was doomed to be nothing more but a puppet, and the panopticon tugged on his chains until he couldn’t resist its pull anymore without choking. He didn’t choose to go up there himself. He never would have. His hand was being forced time and time and time again.
