on the topic of Hussie's racism translating into the comic itself: the origin of lil Cal's name came from a racist comic Hussie made in his TeamSpecialOlympics line It's titled "Rollin with lil Cal" and depicts a black character adopted by a white dad that just goes "Shit! I be 29 years old mutha-fucka!" he either re-used this character itself throughout these comics or was just lazy, but what appears to be the same og lil Cal was in his comic "Underground Funk Railroad", which ended with "Slaves Recaptured: funky swagger to blame" as well as mocking systematic racism and segregation with the racial slur negro (which, historically by white people in that time frame, was pronounced similar to the well-known n word [re-stating out of habit to keep clarification of why it's bad/an actual slur])
From my research, "Lil' Cal" as a name actually seems to extend a little farther back than that. Looks like the origin of Lil' Cal as a character- or at least as a name belonging to a Black character- dates back to around 2005-2006, with the creator being Andrew Hussie's brother, Byron Hussie, also known as Byrobot. You'll see that username a lot when poking around archives of Team Special Olympics comics. I give the estimate of 2005 or so, because Byrobot's Lil' Cal strips predate Hussie's, and not only was Hussie's edition of "Rollin' Wit Lil' Cal" posted in (late-ish) 2006, but Byrobot closed his website in around early 2006, which is where that strip was originally hosted. Plus, I've seen a couple anecdotes that it was around 2005 when that first started being a thing... Either way, though.
Unsurprisingly, Lil' Cal wasn't exactly illustrated with much... Class. Here's Byrobot's first Lil' Cal strip. This is the first iteration of Lil' Cal ever posted online.
Yikes. Yikes on bikes.
To fortify your points, though, I'll post the strips you're talking about here.
Here's Hussie's "Rollin' Wit Lil' Cal", which depicts exactly what you said. This was posted on 08/01/06, as a part of the "Scribblettes" series on the Team Special Olympics website.
And here's Hussie's "Underground Funk Railroad", once again depicting exactly what you said. This was posted on 11/02/06, but is the same story otherwise.
I understand the anxious urge to do it, but I don't think most people really need an explanation as to why any variant of the N-Word is bad. Though, since you brought it up...
Have this. 12/20/06. I needed to curse someone else with it. Same story again, this is still a part of the Scribblettes series.
Regarding the speculation on whether the reusage of Lil' Cal was an act of laziness or not: TSO's Scribblettes have many recurring characters and recurring bits, Lil' Cal just happens to be one of them. Now, applying that same train of thought to Lil Cal's appearance in Homestuck... Homestuck is chock full of references, both to random things/media, and to Hussie's older works- like Problem Sleuth, Humanimals, And It Don't Stop, et cetera. Lil Cal, the puppet, was named the way he was as another throwback for longtime fans. Lil' Cal, the TSO character, was reused during the runtime of Scribblettes just for fun.
I have nothing profound to say about any of this. This guy sucks, lol.

"Get that parkour!"
And that's saying a lot after watching this video montage from yesterday. This one I can give an applaud for, but also given a lil boost of music by “Point Lobo”. 👏
(Never heard of this artist nor planning to listen his/her other music album.)
(Also, no throwback post share to my closest friends today. ⬇️)

Also, is there any sort of archive for your old Undertale ask blog? It looked fun lol
O H GOD U FOUND THAT DGDGHDEBEEHSH UHHHHH no sadly I lowkey deleted it a while back. I thought i was hot shit when i made it, my goal was to answer every ask with a lil animated response made using a shitty art program on my mom's kindle fire
I then realized my 16 yr old hubris
but I do have some of the lil animated answers saved!!!
O Kay so get ready for a bunch of O L D art from back in 2016,
(Someone asked how many puns sans could fit into a sentence, this is one of my favorites from back then uwu)
(I have no idea what the context was for this one but it had something to do with ketchup)
(Sans was asked to pick between Paps and Toriel and as someone who is both an avid soriel shipper and a lover of well written sibling relationships I couldn't choose)
(I cOMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT THIS ONE SGSGSH LIL PAP DRAWING SANS A H)
(I have no idea what the context for this one was but goop gaster is always some good content 👌)
(These are from when I introduced the other aus into the ask blog. My portrayals of some of them were v influenced by the standard fandom take on their characters so im kinda ehhh about some of the answers I did for them back then, but that just shows that I've developed I guess.)
(This one is hella old but it was one of my first posts to kinda gain some traction so I might redo it someday who knows ¯\ _(ツ)_/¯)
Aaaand that's about it!! It's hella weird to look back on, since I'd like to think I've moved on to better characterizations of some of the characters (but idk at the v least im trying shdhsh)
I might have to do a couple redraws of some of them for old times sake :^)
But I hope u enjoyed this lil throwback to my youth
💕 it took me 4 years to openly admit that I simp for sans undertale💕
#asks#old art#old ask blog#i had to do some serious digging#im glad some people still think its kinda cute tho

Short version: A lil sketchy exploration of the Uluth, the psychic hivemind squidpeople who are part of the antagonistic regime in my ttrpg current game. Lelu & Zwyo are members of the resistance. Really this was just so I could draw Lelu w/ some context. Lelu is a cutthroat negotiator and interrogator that uses the fact that they look like an adorable vinyl toy to throw people off. Zwyo is 1/2 of a pair that creates a series of political protest art (she does typography) & is involved in her community’s music scene.
Long version (copied from my patreon) w/ some extra art:
“A little bit of sketchy nonsense that I decided to color as a warmup. "Uluth" have been part of The Road's TTRPG lore for awhile (tumblr archive says 3 years but I think longer than that) - the races on The Road and the setting were something my partner made before we met so a lot of the world was set in stone by the time it became a collaborative project, and like many custom fantasy settings, have 'classic' fantasy race parallels (halflings, dark elves/orcs/trolls, and liches, the latter of which we aren't coy about).
I was running a very BPRD-esque game in a haunted hotel with some eldritch horror undertones when I conceived what I felt was my contribution to The Road's races (sort of, I'll elaborate later). The Uluth, a very loose homage to mindflayers, but turned on its head a bit to create a "good" (like, speaking alignment wise) version. I actually cribbed the leg design from the way I used to draw Mindflayers. A race of humanoid, psychic squid-ish people that were all linked up to pockets of collective consciousness that served as their gods/monarchs. An Uluth has a lifecycle that goes gelatinous egg -> larvae/tadpoles -> something that looks more like a baby -> fully ambulatory child with a large rudder like tail -> juvenile (starting to express adult characteristics like definition in their fins, tails are shrinking into pretty much a nub - think teenagers) and then adult, with no tail, their final colorations (if they didn't have em already) -> and then finally, when their physical body dies, their ""soul""/psionic self ascends into the Overmind to contribute to the collective consciousness. At the time I made them, in the prime timeline of our games, Uluth had immigrated to The Road several hundred years prior to the current age (1974) as a Roman-level civilization, but their naturally pacifist nature, frail bodies that were susceptible to stress, etc. led them to be killed off by another similarly developed species to the point of extinction.
Originally, I never intended to draw a living Uluth or think much about how they looked like normally - they were viewed solely through the lens of the ghostly, psionic selves that had slowly gone insane and created a mad, fractured overmind, the psionic abilities of which had caused strange labyrinthine passages and other weird shit to spontaneously form in the hotel (....I really liked "House of Leaves" as a teenager, ok). But my player was running a very mad scientist-y character at the time and managed to rehydrate Peklam's (second image) mummified body and shove his soul back inside it, so all of a sudden we had a walking talking Uluth. Peklam was then one of my PCs for a game we did later with the same group of characters! The image of Peklam was done during that time, but I still like it, it was done when my art style was loosening up.
When we started doing AU games, we did a setting ran by me called Mindrunner in which the Uluth not only survived the cull, but partnered up with another race to become the dominant culture on the planet, and by 2035 The Road is highly technologically advanced with a lot of progressive things regarding universal healthcare and public resources, but has suffered in other ways, mostly regarding the dehumanization of a "undead race" that most Uluth, as creatures that never REALLY die, treat with a lot of fear/disgust/disdain. This sentiment is shared by eh most people. I would explain it further but I feel like this is already kind of rambly and dense. But suffice it to say, this other species, the Annubi, which a lot of our other characters are, have a similarly complicated lifecycle where they are normal, gradually get more decrepit but more powerful (and mentally unstable) as they age with NO UPPER LIMIT, creating Liches, and all of the psionic pressure on the road from so many Uluth is accelerating the process. Not to mention the stress of being treated like shit. Not that the current regime would accept that maybe they should be helping these people instead of shooting them in the head and calling it a day.
Needless to say, we are playing the game from the POV of the insurgency, because the government sucks in the real world so it's cathartic to overthrow a fictional one, lol. Not all Uluth feel the same - the two named characters here, Zwyo and Lelu, are members of the resistance. Zwyo assists another character to create political protest art (Zwyo does typography and layout, the other guy, Mandrake, does the art) and Lelu uses their psionics to be a master interrogator, and utilizes the fact that they look positively adorable to catch people off guard. They are in fact quite cutthroat, and used to be a bit of a con artist before joining the resistance movement.
Funfact: Uluth are super into "athleisure" type clothing because it dries quickly and does not restrict their movement. Another fashion staple is transparent accessories, like sleeves, jackets, bags, etc. Zwyo is very into the underground music scene in her home, and is a little more into "human music" and fashion.
This is really all just because I wanted to draw this NPC Lelu, who I had no idea how to design, as I hadn't thought a lot about what "young" uluth look like. Lelu is an adult Uluth who's body never got larger or lost its tail, and retains many juvenile characteristics (big ol eyes and head, short muzzle). They mostly take it in stride and are a small bastard.
That's it! Back to more important matters. Uluth are not the most visually exciting things in the world, they aren't as "weird" as I prefer my alien races to be, but for the setting, I find them visually appropriate and think they're cute. They are a throwback to an alien race I made when I was, like, 15.

Welcome to Illustrated Tape’s favourite releases of 2018 that sounded and looked good, chosen by this year’s contributors. We’ve put together a playlist featuring one track from each of the releases featured so you can check out the sounds we were digging this year. Happy listening!
➔ spoti.fi/2LCgrQp Listening in order recommended
Delta Sleep - Ghost City Big Scary Monsters, 10 August Artwork: Owen Findley at Or8 Design Selected by Megan Reddi // IT014
This is my favourite music/artwork combo of 2018! The whole album is just amazing - it is beautifully arranged and has this lovely dreamy quality to it, with repeated musical motifs woven throughout to really pull the whole album together. Not only is Ghost City musically fantastic, but the artwork is beautiful and so fitting for the album. It is designed and screen printed by Owen Findley and the warm colours, imagery and textures are just spot on.
Definitely my favourite release of 2018. It is my go-to driving album and I will be blasting it while we’re driving around this Christmas!
➔ Listen to Illustrated Tapes 014: Nautical Dusk by Megan Reddi
Okay Kaya - Both Heavy Body, 1 June Artwork/design: Kaya Wilkins, Aaron Maine, Phillip Wong
Selected by Hannah Buckman // IT016
Okay Kaya’s Both as an album that came out this year which I enjoyed, and which I feel has a strong visual component to it. To me the album feels sickly (in a good way), gloomy but still pop. I think the mood is conveyed really well through the Adinah Dancyger directed music vids and the album art.
I liked finding out more about Kaya’s thinking behind the project, like how the twin in the videos is like a physical manifestation of trauma... it’s something that once I read I couldn’t stop thinking about. The idea of something traumatic inducing this birth of a second self, a kind of split off part that is still attached in some way to the whole, but there being a kind of safety in acknowledging what might be a darker part of yourself, from a distance. Also the album art kind of conveys the idea of duality and how that relates to race/sexuality, but I didn’t feel like that was really explored as much. I think I like this album ‘cos it kind of ties in with things (mentioned above) I’m currently interested in, but maybe it feels a bit surface-y at times.
➔ Listen to Illustrated Tapes 016: Protect Your Extremities by Hannah Buckman
Quavo - Quavo Huncho Capitol / Mowtown / Quality Control, 12 October Artwork: Mihailo Andic
Selected by Conner Perry // IT020
I think my favourite music/design combo of this year has to be Quavo’s Quavo Huncho. Not only is it full of bangers, the cover by Mihailo Andic is just brilliant. It really sets itself apart from the Migo’s visuals and changes the way you listen to the record. Definitely check out the rest of his work, especially the stuff for Lil’ Yachty.
➔ Listen to Illustrated Tapes 020: Nice one bruva by Conner Perry
Parquet Courts - Wide Awake! Rough Trade, 18 May Artwork: A. Savage
Selected by Holly St Clair // IT021
I was really late to the Parquet Courts party, but actually both of my initial encounters with their two recent releases have been solid arguments for the importance of decent album artwork. For both Wide Awake! and Human Performance I ran into - literally - the artwork before the music. Twice, two years apart, whilst wandering around London I turned a corner and came face to face with Adam Savage’s superb cover work. He smacked me in the face with poppy colours and amorphous dancing forms and I loved every moment. Add in an anarchic use of type and you’ve got me shouting, “Oh shit! A new Parquet Courts album!” to no one in particular outside an old meat market in Shoreditch.
A. Savage is both front man and painter and that adds a special flavour to the whole affair. Album marketing can be a laboured, commercially driven affair, there’s something authentic - a little DIY flavour - about this relationship between artwork and music. It’s a nice parallel to the musical throwbacks typical of the bands style. Wide Awake! dropped earlier this year and it’s fab. (Although, I love the artwork so much even if it was god awful I’d still buy the record and hang it on my wall.)
➔ Listen to Illustrated Tapes 021: To: You, Love: Me by Holly St Clair
D.A.L.I - When Haro Met Sally Burning Witches, 23 May Artwork: Luke Insect
Selected by Thomas Hedger // IT017
According to my recently played, I’ve been stuck on a pre-'90s loop. I've crept slowly into 2018's releases picking out albums like books - by their covers - and it really paid off! I don’t often delve into electronic but I love this album, it’s a perfect blend of hopping on your bike and hitting the tracks, nailing the look of how the album feels in all its haze. A solid sunny day good time.
➔ Listen to Illustrated Tapes 017: Sink by Thomas Hedger
Young Fathers - Cocoa Sugar Ninja Tune, 9 March Artwork: Tom Hingston
Selected by Katie Chandler // IT003
This cover was immediately striking and memorable to me. Upon listening to the album, I found that the artwork resonated with this feeling of odd, unrestricted expression. It's a little unsettling, ultimately bold and intriguing. Much like the music, it feels hot and cool all at once, like a burst of energy that leaves you in a sweat. It's the exhilarating soundtrack to your runner's high, and you're not really sure why you're running or what you're running from.
➔ Listen to Illustrated Tapes 003: Porch Light by Katie Chandler
Gesu no Kiwami Otome (ゲスの極み乙女。) - Suki Nara Towanai (好きなら問わない) Taco Records, 29 August Selected by Greg Stasiw // IT009
Although it’s not the ambient and electronic fare I usually enjoy, Suki Nara Towanai (好きなら問わない) by Gesu no Kiwami Otome. (ゲスの極み乙女。) is a hoot. The artwork features a stylized neon pachinko machine. Or maybe it’s a console in a rad indie pop spaceship, which would also make sense for this funky fresh group! It feels somehow familiar, somehow alien, and altogether really, really cool.
The neon suggests something retro, and there are some retro leanings in their funkier tracks, but it's definitely neon as seen in 2018. Modern pop (and J-Pop) tropes emerge, but infectious basslines, tight drumming, and smart keys make this album something special. Some math rock even surfaces at times, and the remix included proves that this group goes for whatever feels fresh. One look at the artwork reminds me that this is one of the funnest albums I've listened to in a while. “Funnest” is definitely a word when you’re talking about this band!
➔ Listen to Illustrated Tapes 009: Atmospheres by Greg Stasiw
Aphex Twin - Collapse EP Warp, 14 September Artwork: Weirdcore
Selected by Alex Vissaridis // IT002
2018 was a great year if you grew up listening to the music I was into. Some of my all-time favourite artists released new stuff this year, and they didn’t disappoint. The artwork was pretty excellent too, but nothing grabbed my attention like the world created around Aphex Twin’s Collapse EP. Album art doesn’t seem to mean as much as it once did, so it’s always exciting when it appears outside of the little square on your screen in unexpected ways.
This year, Aphex Twin logos appeared all over the world, from Elephant & Castle tube station to the side of a record store in Tokyo, designed in a way that made it look like the logo was collapsing into the environment around it. I’m a sucker for stuff like this; random cryptic messages that send internet detectives into a frenzy. It was eventually announced as marketing for the Collapse EP, but they kept the ‘collapsing logo’ visual going on the EP artwork, in the music video for the track ‘T69 collapse’, and even through to projection-mapped videos around London (again announced in typical smoke-and-mirrors fashion) and a collaboration with Crack magazine. Way more than just a collection of pixels.
➔ Listen to Illustrated Tapes 002: Tape Fuzz by Alex Vissaridis
Flohio - Wild Yout EP Alpha, 2 November Selected by Rachel Maughan // IT012
I got into Flohio after I saw her on COLORS in January with 'Band'. She's fucking explosive on that track, you can feel her spitting straight into your chest. She's been savvy with her producers and killed her work with God Colony - 'SE16' was my most played track of the year. Her 2018 EP, Wild Yout is a cocktail of perfection.
Mashing up genres it's a high energy listen with punchy, grimey hip-hop that is uniquely South London. The artwork is beautiful simplicity - her achingly slick androgynous aesthetic, the clean photographic composition, with a flowing chain to bring it tightly back to SE. Gorgeous.
➔ Listen to Illustrated Tapes 012: High Rise by Rachel Maughan
Sudan Archives - Sink EP Stones Throw, 25 May Photography: Jack McKain Design: Jeff Jank
Selected By Tom J Newell // IT004
Sink submerges the listener in flowing loops and beats, with splashes of violin and vocals floating above the sunken monolith, which stands tall on the deep blue cover art. The composition is reminiscent of two of Jank’s other iconic Stones Throw sleeves, Donuts and Madvillainy and continues his striking yet varied art direction for the label.
Check out the ‘Nont For Sale’ video from the EP too, which adds powerful choreography and styling to create another successful visual accompaniment to the music. Much love to Sudan Archives and hats off to Jeff Jank. I painted a tribute to the cover art on a 12x12” piece of wood.
➔ Listen to Illustrated Tapes 004: FEAR. by Tom J Newell
Drinks - Hippo Lite Drag City, 20 April Selected by Molly Fairhurst // IT015
Hazy, dazed, an album I hold dearly to 2018 (and many strangely lit walks in a then new, unknown city).
A collaboration between Cate Le Bon and White Fence’s Tim Presley, the pair took an (isolated) retreat to St Hippolyte-Du-Fort in the south of France to record, frankly, crudely, seemingly, whatever the fuck they wanted to. Hippo Lite is born, a joyful, playful, sometimes quiet, sometimes screaming object.
What senses like an eavesdrop through closed doors rightly has a cover that can’t be quite understood- a narrow column of, at the glance of the reader, ‘nonsense’ notes, which flank photos of Le Bon and Presley. Both are snapshots of an absurd holiday we have been invited along to, so long as we sit across the table. A tender and private piece.
➔ Listen to Illustrated Tapes 015: The Wilder Woman by Molly Fairhurst
Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs - King of Cowards Rocket, 28 September Artwork: Sophy Hollington
Selected by Drew Milward // IT010
First off, this album is wall to wall, solid gold bangers. Kind of like the lovechild of The Fall and Black Sabbath, who has been cautioned by the police for possession of a massive bag of skunk, a bong in the shape of a skull and a copy of ‘The Holy Mountain’ on DVD.
Aside from the fact it’s a full on riff-o-rama, the artwork by Sophy Hollington is absolutely incredible. It summons up the sound of the band, via folk horror infused wildness. It really captures the sonic landscape of the album, yet completely avoids any of the cliched imagery that could so easily have taken its place. It really is the whole package.
➔ Listen to Illustrated Tapes 010: BE GONE, YOU CREATIVE GREMLINS! by Drew Milward
Djrum - Portrait With Firewood R&S, 17 August Artwork: Michael Mitsas
Selected by Sam Ailey // IT001
Portrait With Firewood is one of those rare gems within the electronic genre - a true ‘album’. With holistic production, emotional range, and a captivating narrative, this really is a stunning listening experience from start to finish. Felix Manuel combines electronic and acoustic sounds seamlessly on this intimate record, with exceptional attention to detail in his sampling and tender piano sections played by Felix himself.
Michael Mistas’s cover art is a real departure from the typical design aesthetic of electronic albums and caught my attention straight away. I love its composition and rough, imperfect execution. To me these feels reflective of the range and depth of emotional states explored across the album, and the feeling that some things are easier to express through your craft than with words. Plus I’m a sucker for pink things.
➔ Listen to Illustrated Tapes 001: Quiet by Sam Ailey

When I was in high school from 1994-1997, I had the opportunity to create an ongoing weekly comic strip for a local weekly paper called the Adirondack Mountain Sun. The comic was called “THE PRIDE” and featured a team of superhero characters I had originally created at age 9 or so. Aside from some chunks of postings over the years on websites like ComicSpace and DeviantArt, the strip has never been presented online in its entirety, and still never in print. I’ve been archiving the pages on my Facebook art page (Facebook.com/johnnygoldenart), and as of today posted the final 7 pages. So here’s an image from page 81, October 1995, commemorating this humble lil’ milestone. I am collecting a slightly remastered version of this run in a Volume 0, to coincide with a brand new relaunch issue 1 picking up where I left off, but with my current writing and drawing skills. It’ll be a fast and fun 90s retro superhero romp, and I hope people are stoked to come along for the ride. Stay tuned for updates on all of that as they develop... - #WOLFPACT #FormerlyKnownAsThePride #WOLFBAIT #OC #originalcharacter #indiecomics #throwback #JAGarchives #superheroes #vigilantes #makemorecomics #nineties #90s (at Lowville, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/CaDiUM7PyX2/?utm_medium=tumblr

YALL I got Covid for a second time and came back to the land of the living Tumblr to even more new fics, imma be doing reaction reblogs till I die sksksks but well worth it bc you know how I love to scream in all caps.
᪥
⭆ “One of our guys has seen some things that could be a real problem for you. For us."
“Oh, so you’re having me followed, great. Good job picking someone who blends in.”
Skskskksksk I LOVE THIS THROWBACK. So Jones really *does* hear enough through Reader’s scathing sarcasm to learn something every once in a while
⭆ “Tell your little spy not to believe everything they see.”
⭆ Ramon was handsy. PDA was a constant with him. It’s not like you could ask him not to touch you at Roxanne.
Savvy Reader. So fucking savvy … bc I’m sorry RAMON HANDS OFF?? Mon hears the phrase hands off like, “sorry gorl, we don’t know her?”
⭆ … when he says your real name it almost startles you. It feels weird to your ears. You’re so used to the fake name that your birth name feels - foreign.
WOOF okay, god. In between the like funny shit there are always some goddamn silver bullets that just.. man. God. They just really detonate on impact. Like this just makes so much sense but it’s something I neeeever would’ve thought of myself
⭆ Sure the sex is exciting and soft in the right moments, wild and passionate in others but it's so much more than that …
SCREAMIN SJSJSJJSJS bc look, Reader. Gorl. If it is just the sex.... no one would blame you 😂
⭆ And why doesn’t a bigger part of you feel bad? The old you, she would feel way worse about this. Whoever you’re becoming, you don’t recognize her, but you like her - the thought sends a chill down your spine.
OH BUT I LOOOVE THIS DEVELOPMENT. This makes me suuuuper fucking intrigued to see how this ends like I thought I kinda knew which way the wind was blowing but now, I honestly cannot tell which way Reader’s gonna go, like they could fully jailbreak and go Bonnie and Clyde with it, or follow through on their original mission??? Yo no sé una chinga nada ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
⭆ Movie night became one of the sweet soft things you and Ramon did ... Though, toward the end he’d get antsy; you never really got to see the end of movies with Ramon next to you in bed.
Skskskskksksksks love each and every one of these references to our neurodivergent little adhd king 😂😂😂😂
⭆ Ramon talks with full cheeks, “Min's birthday party is going to be best fucking birthday party …”
I mean, look. We all fucking know I wasn’t disappointed sksksksks largely due to the lethal sexual magnetism coming from mi espososa Barroncito but considering Min and Reader were buried under bodies, I think our opinions of the evening are slightly different
⭆ You pick up a photo of Ramon, smooth-faced, with no beard holding a guitar, and amp behind him.
“Oh Mon had a rockstar phase,” they look at each other and laugh.
SKSKSKSKSKSKNOOOOO BUT THE FUCKING WAAAAY THIS MADE ME THINK OF THE TUNA SCENE BC HES JAMMING TO THE EAGLES AND CARRYING THAT PINSHE CASE AROUND AND THE ENTIRE FUCKING TIME, I WAS LIKE OFC IT’S A GUITAR. THE EAGLES + MULLET = GUITAR don’t even ask me to explain that math Needless to say, I can see it. I can FULLY see this in my mind’s eye
⭆ “It was so hard getting him to sit for those,” his mom said as she walked by, toward the kitchen, “never sat still.”
Here we go again sksksks pinshe neurodivergent lil prince
⭆ “Hey, thanks for the ride but I need to be alone now, and for the next few days for - reasons.” Doesn’t fly here, it doesn’t work.
HOWWWLING tho because I need the behind the scenes of the first and only time Reader tried this tactic and what exactly Moncito’s response was. Reader didn’t even get through the “I need to be alone now” part before Mon was like “what was that? You wanted me to come up and watch movies with you and screw your brains out why thank you, I think I will”
⭆ … this man whose hand is resting on your thigh as he excitingly tells you about party planning, this man you know is also a ruthless killer - you ask yourself, if this man could kill you too if he had to.
And you know that answer.
BROOOOOO ...... I did such a mental, emotional, spiritual 180 here bc like cackling about neurodivergent little Mon, too antsy to watch tv, too clingy to give you space, and then like this got me just 🧍♂️🧍♂️🧍♂️🧍♂️ speechless, fully without speech as you can see that lasted mere nanoseconds bc like you never think about the fact that like actually yes, if you were an informant, you’d be dead no matter how much they love you. Like in the narco world, it’s such a huge betrayal
⭆ Another thing you learned about Ramon is he fucking loves it when you take over; when you push him into a wall, when you pull him close and kiss him...
*STANDS UP, FLIPS TABLE OVER, KICKS CHAIR ACROSS ROOM, LITS HAIR ON FIRE, RUNS AROUND SCREAMING*
⭆ Scary, charming, leader of the wolf pack Ramon dissolves into a submissive, needy, desperate mess for you to use and he loves it, you love it.
OKAY NO. EVERYONE SHUT THE FUCK UP yes, I am aware I’m literally just screaming at me BC I HAVE THOUGHT THIS FOR👏🏼FUCKING👏🏼EVER👏🏼 THIS BBY BOI IS SUCH A SWITCH. IM SORRY. A MAN WHO IS OWNED BY THE WOMEN IN HIS FAMILY WOULD BE AT LEAST A PART TIME SIMP FOR HIS NENA. AT LEAST. YA LO SÉ ES LA NETA, NO DIGAME LO CONTRARIO
⭆ When you near the living room, you see Claudio and Enedina sitting together, holding hands. The sight makes you smile. You love seeing her happy.
Bc Dinarrón is my lifeblood and the air that I breathe, cue me not at all thinking about Barrón soothing his broken heart in a corner somewhere sjsjsjsjs
⭆ They don't stop their conversation at the sight of you ... and this kind of talk usually came to a halt when you, Barron, or any other non-family member walked in. It kind of made you feel bad, not for yourself ... but for Barron. He's protecting the family and plays an important role; they could at least cut the guy some slack.
BUT THEN YOU DO THIS SHIT TO ME SKSKSKSK LIKE ME THINKING BARRÓN AND THEN YOU WENT THERE. I have never fully known the meaning of “ask and ye shall receive” until this moment sjsjsjsjsjsjjsjsjsjsjsj
⭆ Besides, you didn’t know it at the time, but someone else was already digging into this aspect of the family dealing, a reporter. The same who was outside that night at the wedding when Rayo met his end.
Yeeeeeessssssss Andrea, mah GORL! Pls tell me Reader has some kind of encounter with her before this shit ends bc te lo juro i would scream
⭆ But it was too late, they were both shot dead by flying bullets and you fell down with the weight of their bodies.
Bc I’ve seen this scene 2000 times for fic/tribute vid purposes, like bodies start dropping, shits flying all over the place, mad desmadre. But then the look on Min’s face when he gets toppled by one, like it’s hoooooorrible but makes me cackle every time sksk pobre is just so fucking stupefied
⭆ For a brief moment, you were separated from the group and Barron and pulled you up, from under the bodies.
SORRY I KNOW THIS ISNT JUST FOR ME SKSKSKSKSK BUT LIKE THE WAY I AM CLUTCHING MY PEARLS ALL, “THIS SHIT IS FOR MEE”
⭆ The way Barron’s already stoic expression turned dead serious as he noticed something across the way.
Oh I’m so sorry, did you mean like what his face is doing here.....
⭆ Barron’s strong grip as he pulled you up from the ground. The look of worry and fear in Ramon's eyes when he thought he lost you.
I have fully lost the plot. The mere presence of Barrón has made me fully lose the plot, like I can’t rn.
⭆ Then you hear, Enedina's pain laced voice as she clutches Claudio's suitcase.
“I want their heads.”
Quiero.............. sus cabezas. YAAAS ESA ELLA ES MI PINSHE MUJER
᪥
Literally me awaiting chap 6: fully fucking just

Throwback fashion: Sridevi stunned in a maroon Benarasi silk saree, Janhvi shines in green - fashion and trends
https://www.liveindiatimes.com/throwback-fashion-sridevi-stunned-in-a-maroon-benarasi-silk-saree-janhvi-shines-in-green-fashion-and-trends/
The novel coronavirus has forced India into a mandatory lockdown in order to flatten the curve of the spread of Covid-19. This has forced people of all sections of society, except the frontline workers of Covid-19 who continue to do their noble jobs, inside their homes. And people are considerably bored, celebrities included. And one such celebrity is Bollywood’s favourite fashion photographer Dabboo Ratnani who has been posting interesting and fun videos of himself getting “bored in his house”. Dabboo has also been sharing photos from the archives of his famous annual calendars for which the who’s-who of Bollywood pose. Celebrating ‘25 years of Dabboo Ratnani, the photographer most recently posted a picture of King Khan, Shah Rukh Khan. SRK is shirtless in the black and white picture, slick with ‘sweat’ (most definitely water) from what seems to be a wrestle. Shah Rukh can be seen sporting wrestling bands on his fisted hands and his low-rise track pants seem to be uncomfortably holding onto dear life, nonetheless making for a gorgeous photograph.
However, it was a previous photo of legendary Bollywood icon, the late actor Sridevi along with her producer husband Boney Kapoor and their two daughters, Khushi and Janhvi Kapoor. Captioning the Instagram post, “ A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words, But The Memories Are Priceless ❣️ #25yearsofdabbooratnani”, the photo shows the entire Kapoor clan dressed in traditional attire. Sridevi looks stunning as ever in a beautiful Benarasi maroon saree, while a much younger Janhvi can be seen sporting a green and pink one, while a pre-teen looking Khushi wears a deep orange colour-ed saree with a blouse matching her mother’s. Both the girl’s are seen wearing gajras. While Boney Kapoor is seen in a traditional black kurta with a multi- coloured shawl draped over his shoulders.
Dabboo Ratnani was last in the news for all the wrong reasons. He was called out by social media users who couldn’t help but notice too much of a similarity between a shot that Dabboo took of Kabir Singh actor, Kiara Advani, for his 2020 calendar.
The Kiara shot was eerily similar to a picture of model Steph Taylor taken by photographer Marie Bärsch last year. However, Dabboo held his ground and denied any plagiarism claims the internet had, claiming that the photograph of Kiara was inspired by a picture he took of Tabu for his 2002 calendar.
Sharing a picture of Tabu from the 2002 calendar, Dabboo wrote in an Instagram post, “Beautiful @tabutiful for #dabbooratnanicalendar 2002. #lovenature This timeless & mesmerising shot of Tabu was taken in the year 2001 and it featured in my calendar in the year 2002. There’s been a lil noise about @kiaraaliaadvani ‘s breathtaking 2020 calendar shot with leaf! Guess if I can reuse my camera, I can definitely repeat my own concept!”
“If at all that doesn’t go well with trolls, then I admit to plagiarising MY OWN SELF #loveandpeace @dabbooratnani @manishadratnani Huge Thanks to my friends who trust me ! That’s all that matters,” he added.

Happy New Year! Here are some of WMUA staff's favorite albums from 2019:
PR Director - Ariya Sonethavy
House of Sugar by (Sandy) Alex G and Anak Ko by Jay Som -- I think I overplayed these records in the second half of the year. House of Sugar is magnificent every time and I absolutely love how different each song is, though listening to it in order always feels like something new. The way he produces and manipulates instruments/vox is insane. Anak Ko is my go-to comfort record for the last few months and I've become very attached to it. I love the layers Melina Duterte produces with tracks that are sunny and warm but also moody. I'm also obsessed with the fact that both Alex G and Melina Duterte write and produce all their own tracks -- their songs fill me with big ultralight beams!
General Manager - Toby Cashook
When I first listened to Digital Shades Volume II, it's as if I had finished a surreal sci-fi Dungeons and Dragons adventure narrated by Panos Cosmatos. Having only known M83 as their electric-pop, “Midnight City”selves, this was a total vibe check. Anthony Gonzalez, the lead on this project, reminisced that this was an album that, for him, brought back a feeling of childlike adventure. Inspired by early-age videogames and similar source material, DSVII echoes those mediums that are so endearing and so close to our hearts. For me it was 'Oh Yes You're There, Everyday' and 'Feelings' that reminded me of that naive experience when exploring classic RPG and fantasy games like Bethesda's Skyrim or Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time open worlds for the first time. In a way, my naive sense of childlike wonder was restored. It was like old friends reuniting after seeing hadn't seen each other in quite some time. Similar in nature to Ben Prunty's Curious Merchandise, each song plays like a series of short stories, each describing a unique setting or situation that plays itself out in a satisfying way.
DSVII leaves you wanting more. Within the chaos of our society, DSVII is a nostalgic album. It's a call to remember the simplicity in our lives that we once let go. It can be tiresome to imagine those moments, and yet listening to DSVII feels as though they've always been by your side. It's a throwback for sure, and I'm sure all of us could use that reminder.
Programmer - Taylor Cassidy
I think my staff pick for 2019 is Better Oblivion Community Center by.... Better Oblivion Community Center, better known as Conor Oberst and Phoebe Bridgers. This release is from the earlier part of 2019, but it's one of the few albums of this year where I dove in and listened to more than just one or two tracks, and I enjoyed it all. Oberst's emo vocals and punk sensibilities complement Bridgers' songwriting and deeper voice, and they just really come together perfectly in this bizarre concept album about joining a cult. It's folk rock for people who had an emo phase and hate the word "folk" - a label which I guess suits me. Many of the songs are catchy despite being weird, creepy, or depressing and songs like "Dylan Thomas" have a really anthemic, singable feel. It was a release I was really anticipating and wasn't disappointed when I added it to my library.
Finance Director - John Matraia
Bandana by Freddie Gibbs & Madlib is the rap album of the year. Five years removed from their last collaborative album Piñata, it seemed improbable that the duo could top the 2014 classic. And while it’s hard to pick one over the other, it’s clear that both of these guys only get better with time. And more dynamic, too. Just look at "Palmolive” (with an incredible guest verse from Pusha T) or the heartfelt "Practice." On every track here, Freddie and Madlib are fighting to outdo each other, and the greatness that both artists strive for puts this tape over the top. Sure, maybe on a song like “Crime Pays”, Madlib’s mesmerizing instrumental just edges out Freddie’s greatness, and maybe Freddie steals the show on “Education.” But it’s tracks like “Fake Names” and “Cataracts” where both connect at the top of their game and prove that they’re the best in their respective lanes. Freddie claimed that this album was his “baby”, and this sentiment bleeds through on the uplifting intro track “Freestyle Sh*t”, where he reflects on everything he’s been through to reach this point. What follows this are thirteen tracks that serve as a victory lap for both artists, with Freddie making a case for the best rapper alive, and Madlib proving why he’s the best producer of all time.
Communications Music Director - Alex MacLean
It’s so hard to pick just one record from this year, the amount of plainly great music that has come out this year is absurd. However, I’d like to make the case for one people might not have heard much about. Foam by Diviño Niño is a wiggly, catchy, summery bit of psychedelic pop, with lyrics in English and Spanish that are equally evocative and lovelorn in both languages. The Chicago-via-Colombia band runs through a wide array of sounds and styles with ease. It’s easy to put on and let it breeze tunefully by, but if you pay closer attention, the record’s clever songwriting and wonderfully quirky and detailed instrumentation begin to take hold on you, worming their way into your head. The beachy title track grooves with funky guitars and auxiliary percussion like Speaking in Tongues-era Talking Heads, and second track “Quiero”’s half-time chorus stops the song’s midtempo momentum in its tracks to let singer Camilo Medina make important declaration: “I don’t ever wanna change your mind / I wanna be with you the way that you are.” Elsewhere, “Maria” is an all-Spanish language breakup song about having your heart ripped from your chest and spit out by a girl named Maria (figuratively, of course), after which the singer decides to drink a lot and smoke 7 joints: “Chaqueta de liquor / Siete porros y un adios.” It’s an example of evocative lyricism that cuts to the emotional core despite its economy. There are lots more I enjoyed this year, but Foam is an underappreciated record that stuck with me.
Archival Music Director - Jamie Daitch
For me, 2019 has been the year of embracing country music, and no album pulled me closer in than the self-titled debut of the Highwomen, a supergroup composed of Brandi Carlile, Natalie Hemby, Maren Morris, and Amanda Shires. This is the best sort of collaboration, where every artist is giving their absolute best to the project to make an incredibly compelling whole. This album captures a large swath of feminine life experience, with sharp, detailed, emotionally complex writing that will give you new little details every listen. And you'll want to listen over and over again, with melodies that are just so catchy and song structures that hook you along for every ride. I can't think of an album I listened to more this year. If the closest you've come to country as of late is Kacey Musgraves's "Golden Hour" and Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road," then this is an album to try. The Highwomen demonstrates the unique strengths of country music better than anything else this year. Check it out!

The Cincinnati Enquirer wrote an audience-driven article using Instagram Stories (and it wasn't even about a hippo)

The Cincinnati Enquirer wrote an audience-driven article using Instagram Stories (and it wasn't even about a hippo)
If you follow news organizations on Instagram, you probably see a dozen news quizzes or “things to know” every week on your Instagram Stories. Now, there’s nothing necessarily wrong about testing followers on current events and sharing roundups. But on a platform that lets users vote, rate something’s emoji-level, ask questions directly, and more — there might just be opportunity for a little more engagement.
If you follow the Cincinnati Enquirer, though, you might get the chance to decorate some digital coloring book pages of Fiona the Hippo, or even sound off on the city’s public transit problems — and have the newsroom hear you out.
hello it’s #nationalcoloringbookday and @NyergesMike helped a weird idea of mine come to life and now it’s on the @Enquirer’s instagram story!!

“People think of Instagram as food pictures and [being] really extravagant,” said Mallorie Sullivan, the Enquirer’s social media manager, who also has an Instagram for her dog. “I never thought people would really care about real life issues on here and they do.”
Remember, Instagram Stories are the fun lil circles-at-the-top-of-your-feed format the platform “borrowed” from Snapchat; in our previous coverage of the format, we had the discussion about what to call the “annotated mix of photos and videos, arranged in time order, vertically formatted, designed for mobile, navigated via tap, often (though not always!) meant to disappear after a certain period of time.” That was in reference to the framework from Google that allowed news developers to build their own Story-esque tool for their sites, but it’s important to remember that Stories — using it as a proper noun here, in a nod to the Snapchat Stories format that Instagram/Facebook/Messenger ran with, and because these are legitimately Instagram Stories we are talking about here — are a new playground for publishers.
A report from INMA by Yusuf and Sumaiya Omar provides a solid description of each platform’s Stories and how publishers can use them smartly. “Nearly a billion Snapchat, Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook, and Messenger accounts now create and watch Stories. It’s no longer a sidebar to social media,” they wrote in the report, with highlights shared by Journalism.co.uk. (Mark Zuckerberg agrees, saying in February that “Stories are on track to overtake posts and feeds as the most common way that people share across all social apps.”)
News organizations have tried highly produced shows on Snapchat and mobile video on Instagram’s IGTV, not to mention just posting to the permanent feed itself. But Instagram has rolled out several new features lately that add toys to the social sandbox, and the Enquirer has been smartly playing with some of them.
Sullivan leads the social media strategy for the paper’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram (they’ve stepped back from Snapchat because of low engagement). Those three channels have three distinct audiences — notably, their older followers on Facebook tend to berate the Enquirer’s page for sharing pop culture jokes or getting too creative. “We don’t use a lot of memes on Facebook because people get mad at us because ‘we’re a legacy newspaper and we shouldn’t be acting that way’,” Sullivan told me, though I imagined the air quotes through our phone call. Sullivan is part of a four-person digital team (the others are producers).
The Stories, though, are her “testing ground for my dumb ideas.” A Facebook Journalism Project event in Cincinnati encouraged her to think about how to focus on the interactive component of Stories. In the past few weeks, Sullivan has experimented with stories celebrating national “holidays” for hot dogs and coloring books (don’t worry, this isn’t all about food). For the former occasion, Sullivan used a Story to ask readers to build their ultimate hot dog via polls and the recently-released Q&A feature — and then she went home and concocted the hot dog toppings herself to end the Story, bacon, jalapeño, and all).

She drew on the newspaper’s coloring contest for children in the fall as inspiration behind black-and-white graphics of local zoo animals, like Cincinnati celebrity (and children’s book star) Fiona the Hippo. Users could screenshot the images and add their own flair with stickers, different brushes, and more, and Sullivan uploaded them to the Enquirer’s Story to keep the artistry going.
But the biggest splash came from using the Q&A feature to ask readers for their thoughts on the city’s public transit problems. The Story was meant to get followers reading a multi-phase, year-long project the Enquirer had embarked on; earlier in the week, Sullivan had asked people via polls if they got around on bus, bike, or car, and then invited them to join a Facebook group created for the project. But the replies ended up sparking a conversation of their own. With this Story, she reminded them of that interaction and shared some tidbits from the published project and asked followers what changes they want to see in Cincinnati’s public transportation. Within a half hour, the 33,000-follower account had 15 to 20 responses.
Sullivan checked with the reporter leading the project to see if she could compile a complementary article based on the responses. The answer: “Go for it. The more people we can get talking about transit in Cincinnati, the better,” Sullivan said. She wrote up a list of five things that Cincinnatians want to see changed in public transportation, which, coincidentally, isn’t too far off from the list by the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority and accounting firm EY shared in the main story. More than 100 people swiped up on the crowdsourced article in the Story to read it.
“To get more than 50 swipes up was really surprising to me. It showed me that this wasn’t a dumb idea. This is really important and people value this and want their voices heard even if you don’t think they do,” Sullivan said.
In addition to Stories, she’s toyed with newsletter-style roundups in regular Instagram posts. She assembles a few newsworthy local happenings into a multi-slide post with a numbered caption, so followers can swipe through and see the corresponding images, and it’s apparently one of the most popular items on the Enquirer’s Instagram. Their throwback Thursday posts also do well, drawing from the Enquirer’s archives.
