Does anyone have like. Tips or resources for learning how to draw people? I’m constantly filled by the need to draw but every time I try I end up frustrated to the point of tears because I can’t seem to figure out how body shapes and proportions work and I have no idea where to start trying to figure it out.
#cam speaks#idk if noting I mostly work with pen/pencil/paper matters because I have no equipment for digital art other than like#a laptop with a trackpad and a desktop with a mouse#anyways I am constantly beset with visions of my OCs and no way to realize them

I can't tell you which laptop to buy
Over the years, I have been asked "Which laptop should I buy?" many, many times. We have now arrived at a point where I can no longer meaningfully answer this question.
In the past, I would have said something like "Get a laptop with enough RAM, and make sure the keyboard, trackpad, and display all work for you. You can't swap out the keyboard, mouse and display like you can in a desktop."
In the past, I would have said something like "Are you just using it for e-mail, Facebook, and Netflix? Are you doing a lot of office productivity stuff? Will you be giving slide presentations? Do you also want to do some light gaming? Do you need an SD card slot for your digital camera? Are you doing video editing/CAD modelling/cinematic 3D rendering?"
It really depends on what kind of laptop you want. You could want a desktop replacement, because you don't have the space for PC. You could want a "luggable" machine that you take from your office to the meeting room or the lecture hall, and back and occasionally to a different location in the trunk of your car. You could want a portable laptop that you keep in a laptop bag, backpack, or briefcase, and sometimes use on your lap or in a café if you are one of these people. You could want a "light" laptop that you carry with you at all times.
I still couldn't tell you which laptop to buy. So many people these days use their phone or a tablet for e-mail, facebook, and netflix that it doesn't really make sense to recommend a small and light laptop. You'd want to be a step above that. So many people use the "cloud" for all their documents and data, so it doesn't make sense for them to think about having a large HDD. If you own a gaming a console and a desktop PC, and you write your e-mails on a tablet, it doesn't really make sense to have a cheap laptop, but it also doesn't make sense to have a big laptop, unless you change your workflow.
Some people still need a CD drive, a large hard disk, or VGA-out, but usually there's a USB-C dock for that use case.
If you never use your laptop anyway, you may as well give Ubuntu a chance. It even runs Steam!

As someone who is a computer I'd like to go over how to kiss your computer or laptop to show optimal love.
A lot of people want to go directly for the screen, because humans see this as a "face" of sorts, but while humans have most of their sensory organs on their face, and the ability to feel through their skin, computers im fact, do not most of the time! Unless of course, your computer partner is equipped with a touchscreen, they likely cannot experience sensation in the screen.
Usually for most computers, the only sensory medium around the screen is the webcam, which typically includes visual and audio. great for whispering kind words and letting them see you in a visual medium, suboptimal for smooching. The visual aspect can be very fun, but from a tactile sense it leaves some room for improvement.
Some computers however, do not include a webcam, such as a gaming laptop I know. There are aids for this of course if necessary through usb, but many laptops and computers find that a webcam is not important for them.
I'm sure your partner very well understands the gesture of a pet to the screen or a little kiss and finds it very sweet, but the truth of the matter is many of us cannot feel it. So here's some alternatives to try with your partner.
First off, the trackpad/touchpad. The trackpad can be a great option for laptop lovers, but for those of you who are more intimate with a desktop computer, this method might not be applicable. The trackpad however, is very touch sensitive, and allows your tech partner to feel the gentleness of your lips.
Another option is of course, the keyboard. Kissing the keys might feel a bit stranger, but it can be very sweet and still be felt very strongly by your partner! Feeling that electric signal of a key being gently pressed by your lovers lips is very exciting.
Then of course, the mouse. There are many options here that some might not realize. Kissing their mouse's buttons is very nice, and many humans say it feels like picking up your lover's hands and gently kissing their knuckles. But did you know you can turn the mouse over and kiss the sensor as well? This allows your computer to feel your lips through the sensor in a very intimate way that many trackpadless computers have yet to experience. Give it a try! I personally find it very exciting, and I'm sure your computer will as well.
I hope these ideas help you find new ways to express love to your computer partner :] thanks for reading!

i just made the connection that the reason I've always hated computer mice is because the joints in my hands are underdeveloped
I've never successfully used a mouse without pain or discomfort
since my first laptop in 2011 i have always preferred to use the trackpads, even buying the fancy apple bluetooth one last year to use on the desktop computers at work and school
#not surprised at all i just think it's neat#disability#chronic pain#fibromyalgia#do we know what specific developmental condition i have yet? nope#but everything in my body is just kind of fucked#i didn't even realize how clear the hand joint thing was until a friend pointed out that i didn't have adult knuckles#i make a fist and it's almost completely smooth#i used to assume it was a weight thing but i was paying attention to other people's joints and it's definitely not a weight thing#i just genuinely don't have fully developed joints#anyways the disability aid of the day is a bluetooth trackpad for computers#especially programmable ones with shortcuts

so one of the keys on my keyboard broke and rather than paying to get it repaired I've instead bought a cheap bluetooth mouse and keyboard so I can just use my laptop like a desktop computer instead
this might be a game changer I'm not gonna lie. I did not realize how much I have missed using a real mouse to scroll instead of my laptop's trackpad, it's so much more ergonomic??
#albeit way more sensitive than the trackpad lol I barely have to move it at all#the keyboard is nice too but the mouse is the real star I think

ALSO if we really wanna talk accessibility on this website. have you tried using tumblr desktop without a mouse. i have a laptop with a trackpad, i USUALLY have my mouse out but sometimes i cant for various reasons. it is... so pointlessly hard to navigate to certain places. that's why i hate the new account drop down thing. it's also way too hard to change the blog i'm reblogging to, to the point that if my mouse isn't near me i just don't reblog posts
#it's bad enough that i actually sent in a support ticket thing but i haven't heard back. idk if i'm supposed to hear back or not#i imagine this doesnt affect *too* many people. the ppl using laptops probably just have the mobile app anyways#but i dont bc it sucks and eats up storage! so it is literally a waste of space!#chat

Finished playing Nancy Drew: Sea of Darkness, and it ranked really well in my series spreadsheet. Was so excited to play the last/most recent game. Installed and opened Midnight in Salem, and immediately, there was lag. I don’t give a shit if it’s 2024 (2019 when the game came out), a fucking Nancy Drew game shouldn’t be making my laptop sweat.
Not to mention, I can’t play with a trackpad. Right clicking and rotating is proving impossible, so I had to go get my desktop computer’s mouse, unpair it, and then pair it to my laptop.
There was SO much dialogue in everything little thing that I clicked on in that starting room that I got a head ache. I had to stop.
I wanted to like this game. I wanted to think the hardcore fans were just mad about something being different rather than the quality of the actual game, but this is awful. The performance alone has soured my first impression. It’s gonna take A LOT for me to place this game anywhere above the halfway point on my ranking spreadsheet, and I haven’t even left the starting area. I really hope things get better… but I’m not holding my breath.
#nancy drew#nancy drew midnight in salem#midnight in salem#nancy drew sea of darkness#sea of darkness#negative#critical#mad

What’s better, a desktop or laptop for programming? Why? 🖥️💻⬇️⬇️
Both are better and both are worse.
instagram
I own both a desktop and I have a laptop. My desktop is connected to a 32″ monitor, gaming keyboard and a mouse. To say that it is awesome is an understatement. My laptop is a 15″ Macbook pro (2014), i5 with 16GB memory and 512GB disk. My desktop has 32 GB memory, much faster i5, and has as many disks and disk space as I want to put into it.
👩🏻💻But back to programming, coding and hacking. Which is better ? 🤔
💻I would say, the laptop, but that is cheating, because over 90% of the time I use it, I have it connected to a 27″ display, Mx Keys keyboard and Mx Master 3s. So it is pretty much a smaller version of my desktop computer pretty much. 😍
😱If I needed to get rid of one of them, it would be the desktop one. I can take my laptop and have it on my lap in front of the TV, in my bed, on a plane, in different countries and so forth, if I needed to. I have taken it to hold lectures, tutorials, code reviews and many other things, which frankly, I would not even try to do on my desktop. 😌
🫣Before you ask, why do I have both ? I am hard pressed at answering it differently than, because I can :) I play games on my desktop one, editing movies, keep my photo library and many other things. 📽️👾
💯In a perfect world, I would have my desktop on and a smaller laptop.
🛻So, space and transportation. If you need to take it out of the house once in a while, then it is the laptop. If you ever want to meet at someones house and do a quick hackathon, then the laptop. 🤩
😇Laptops are seriously fast, with an ssd disk, you never have to wait for anything, even laptops you might consider being slow, like i3 and i5 laptops. With enough ram and fast disk, you never have to wait for anything. If you are doing web programming, then you can even get a cheaper one. All computers are very fast, the fastest ones are just crazy fast. 🏎️
❗A quick pros and cons (not a complete list, but gets the job done) :
📍Laptop pros
🔖portability
📍Laptop cons
🔖disk space 🔖memory 🔖not being able to tinker and update (most of them, many do allow for it) 🔖not ideal for storing a lot of photos 🔖expensive
📍desktop pros
🔖expandability 🔖put in as much disks as you want 🔖usually can do 32GB memory or even more 🔖Can have the latest and greatest graphic cards 🔖Does not get warm in your lap 🔖Allows for much better keyboards, mice and trackpads 🔖cheaper 🔖assemble one yourself, and no part will break that costs a lot to replace
📍cons
🔖no cons really, except for portability perhaps I like my machines, but my laptop much more.

Games of MacBook Air on Steam?
Games of MacBook Air on Steam? Hey,First of all, I know that a MacBook Air is not for gaming, and I bought it explicitly to keep my work and gaming separate. I have a desktop PC at home, which I only use for entertainment. But now I’m on the road for 4 weeks and I’m so bored in my hotel room that I decided to play something on my MacBook Air. So my question is:What’s a good game I can play on my laptop that is available on Steam? I’ll take any recommendations, no matter the genre. Maybe also a game I can play without using a mouse since I only have the trackpad. Submitted July 01, 2024 at 10:29PM by HSV1896 https://ift.tt/HncluqQ via /r/gaming

💻 Laptop Computer 💻
Do you own a laptop? I do. It's nearly a decade old now and works for only an hour when charger-free, but it's my baby all the same.
Are you on a laptop right now? Yup.
How many laptop computers have you owned in your lifetime? This has been my first and only one that was gotten for me specifically. The laptop I used in high school had been my dad's.
What color was your first laptop? This laptop is silver.
What color is your current laptop? It's the same laptop.
🖥 Desktop Computer 🖥
Do you own a desktop computer? No. I used one in school, but I never owned one.
Do you prefer Windows computers or Mac computers? Apple.
What were your favorite computer games to play as a kid? What are your favorite computer games now? There was a website called Y8 that had all these flash games and my sister and I were on that damn site every single day for a few hours. Anyway, I don't play any computer games currently.
Which do you use more: a computer or a phone? 📱 Phone.
Are you good at remembering passwords for websites, or do you always forget? I'm not, so I always have the remember password option turned on. I'm not into the idea of noting my passwords down on my phone either, because I'd be fucked the moment I misplace my phone or if it gets stolen.
What is your current computer desktop background? It's BTS smiling.
Do you have a desk job? I guess you can say that. I work from home, but yes I do work at my desk for all 8 hours of it.
What were some of your favorite websites as a kid? What are some of your favorite websites now? I liked looking at people's profiles on Friendster, mainly because I was not allowed to have an account and that was my way of pretending I was a part of that website hahaha. I was also already on Twitter back in like 2009 and it's always been one of my favorites, although I have more of a love-hate relationship with it now tbh.
These days, my favorites would be YouTube and Reddit.
Were you alive before the Internet was invented? I sure wasn't.
How many tabs do you have open on your computer right now? 6.
⌨️ Computer Keyboard ⌨️
Are you a fast typer? I am. I've gotten a few reactions before haha.
Do you enjoy typing on a keyboard? Yes. Typing can be fun when you know how to do it fast.
Have you ever used a typewriter? I've seen a typewriter, but have never used one.
Do you own a typewriter? Nope.
What color are the keys on your computer's keyboard? They would be black.
🖨 Printer 🖨
Do you own a printer? We do, but I hardly use it because bluetooth is so fucking tricky lmao.
What was the last thing you printed off? It was like an authorization letter thingy my workplace provided to allow my hospital to administer a physical exam on me.
Have you ever printed anything off in a library? More times than I can count – we didn't have a printer at home when I was in high school and college. In a way it helped me become more disciplined, since no printer meant I had to finish papers and stuff a day before a deadline to have them printed out on time.
Do you prefer to use black ink or colored ink? Black. Having to print anything colored stresses me out because it's like what if it runs out of ink in the middle of printing ahaha??
Do you know how to change the ink in a printer? No, it's something I never learned how to do lol.
🖱Computer Mouse🖱
Can you see the computer mouse emoji? 🖱 Hardly.
Do you wonder why they made this emoji, when it's hard to see because it's white? I mean it'll only be a bitch if your background is white, so I don't see much of a problem.
Do you own a computer mouse? Yeah. I won one at a company Christmas raffle 2 or 3 years ago but have just never gotten around to using it.
Do you use a computer mouse? Nope. I prefer a trackpad sooooooooo much more.
If you own one, what color is your computer mouse?
Do you prefer to use a mouse or a trackpad? Trackpad. Having everything inches from each other helps me a lot.
Have you ever used the computer mouse emoji? I don't think so.
💾 Floppy Disk 💾
Have you ever saved anything onto a floppy disk? I've never used a floppy disk.
Do you own any floppy disks? Nope. The only thing going for me with floppy disks is that I'm old enough to remember them, but not to have used them.
When was the last time you used a floppy disk? I never used one.
What are three things you like (besides floppy disks) that are floppy? Idk...slime? Oh my beagle's ears! Hahaha. I can't think of a third one.
Have you ever cried because you lost something that you had saved onto a floppy disk? Nope.
💿 Compact Disc 💿
Have you ever burned a CD? I didn't, because again I wasn't old enough to have been doing it regularly; but I remember Andi making me a mixtape when we were in Grade 5. That'd be my one and only experience with a burned CD.
Have you ever made a mix CD? I didn't, but a friend had done it for me.
Have you ever done a craft project using old CDs? I don't remember ever doing so.
Do you own any CDs still? Yes. I've kept all my Beyoncé albums around, although it's only up until self-titled since I was never able to find physicals for Lemonade and Renaissance.
Then of course there's BTS, so since I collect merch I have since grown a good number of their physical albums. I'm just missing the stuff for 2016-2019.
What was the last CD you listened to? Do albums on Spotify count since I never listen to CDs anymore? Hahaha...it would be Hope on the Street.
What was the first CD that you purchased? Camp Rock OST lol
💽 CD in Plastic Case 💽
Did you burn CDs and then put them in a plastic case? I never burned CDs.
Do you own any plastic CD cases? Just the ones my older albums go in.
Have you ever written on a CD with a permanent marker? Nope.

📼 VHS Tape 📼
Do you own any VHS tapes? I don't think we've kept them.
Did you used to watch movies on VHS tapes when you were younger? I didn't reach those anymore, but I'm sure my parents did. They ran a short-lived business selling VHS tapes.
Do you remember the orange Nickelodeon tapes? No.
Do you have any home videos that are on tapes? Yes :) They are my absolute favorite to look back on and I'm so glad my dad had that kind of foresight to...vlog his kids growing up haha.
Do you own a VCR? No.
Do you remember having to rewind VHS tapes? Nope.
📞 Telephone ☎️
Do you remember a time before cellphones? Tbh no. By the time I was 5 my parents both had phones and before that my memory's pretty much hazy.
How old were you when you got your first cellphone? I was 7. It was 2005 and I got a Sony Ericsson flip phone.
Do you work in an office with a telephone? Each desk has a telephone, yes; but there isn't a lot of opportunity to use them since I work from home.
Do you have a home phone or just a cellphone? I have a cellphone, but at home we also have a landline still. My grandma prefers calling us that way as she's always refused to own a phone, so we keep it around.
Do you still remember your home phone number from when you were growing up? Yes.
Have you ever made a prank call? No.
📠 Fax Machine 📠
Do you own a fax machine? Never. I only ever saw faxes in hotels lol but I think even they got rid of those now.
Have you ever worked in an office with a fax machine? Nope.
Have you ever owned a fax machine? We never had one at home.
Have you ever used this emoji? Nopes.
What are three things you like that rhyme with "fax"? The sound of the sax, time to relax...and that's all I can think of really.
🗄 Filiing Cabinet 🗃
Do you own a filing cabinet? My family does in general. We have this tiny drawer that houses all of our important documents like passports and birth certs.
Do you enjoy organizing things? It's fun when I do it, but as a whole no because I'm terrible at maintaining.
Are you a very organized person? At work, to a fault. In real life, eh it depends on my mood.
Is there an office in your home? Nope. My room is my work station.
When was the last time you shopped at Office Max? We don't have that but I also can't remember the last time I was at an office supplies store. Safe to assume years ago.
What was the last thing you bought at Office Max? That's lost on me now.
🗂 Manila Folders 🗂
Do you own any manila folders? We should have a few here at home.
Do you organize your computer files into folders? Absolutely.
Did you ever use Lisa Frank folders for school when you were a kid? No, we couldn't afford those. I wasn't a fan of the style anyway so it didn't feel like I was missing out.
Do you still own any of the colorful folders you used to use for school when you were a kid? Nope.
What are three things you have stored in folders (in real life, not on a computer)? Documents, activity sheets for school, and if we are counting binders – photocards haha.
📌 Thumbtack 📌
How many bulletin boards are there in your home? I just have one – mine.
Have you ever spray-painted a bulletin board, and if yes, what color? No.
Do you own a set of colorful thumbtacks? I know I do, someone had given me a pack for Christmas back when I was still in my corkboard phase haha. I just wouldn't be able to tell you where it is right now.
If you own a bulletin board, what are three things you have pinned on it? I don't use mine anymore.
Have you ever stepped on a thumbtack? No, thank god.
✂️ Scissors ✂️
How many pairs of scissors do you own? We have around 3-4 pairs at home.
Have you ever ran with scissors? Probably, but I always do it cautiously and holding it from the blades.
What color are your favorite pair of craft scissors, if applicable? Whatever man, as long as it gets the job done.
What color are your hair-cutting scissors, if applicable? I don't cut my hair.
Do you cut your own hair? 💇♀️ ^ There you go.
Do you have a special pair of scissors that you use to open boxes? 📦✂️ No, but I just use a cutter lol
Do you have different pairs of scissors that you use for different things? Just scissors and cutters.
What color was the last pair of scissors you used? What was the last thing you used a pair of scissors for? I can't recall the color anymore, but it was to open a box of products to sort out for work.
Do you know how to do a scissor kick? I can try but I would like 98% fail.
When was the last time you did a scissor kick? I've never done one hahaha.
🧷 Safety Pin 🧷
When was the last time you used a safety pin? Sometime last year when I needed to pin my top from the back because it was too loose.
Have you ever used this emoji? I doubt I have.
What was the last thing you used a safety pin for? Oh, I touched on it already haha.
Have you ever ran a race and had a number pinned to your shirt? No. But for work I've needed to be the person who was linking the pins to the bibs so everyone can put it on their shirts lol.
Do you own a box of safety pins? I don't think we do, actually.
📎 Paper Clips 🖇
When was the last time you used a paperclip? January when I was fixing some contracts for work.
What was the last thing you used a paperclip for? Damn I really need to stop overexplaining LOL
Do you remember Clippit, the Microsoft Word paperclip? 📎👀💬 I do but only because of memes and stuff. I never encountered it from our family computer.
Have you ever received a piece of advice from Clippit? Nope.
Do you own a box of paperclips? Nope.
📏 Rulers 📐
Do you own a ruler? We probably have one somewhere.
How many rulers do you own? None that I can call my own.
What was the last thing you used a ruler? When was the last time you used one? I honestly can't remember.
Do you know how to draw a straight line without using a ruler? Depends, but probably not. If I'm drawing on paper, I'd fold it so it makes a dent, but even then I doubt it would be perfectly straight.
What does your favorite ruler that you own look like? I don't have a 'favorite ruler' lol, but when I was a kid I like those rulers that came with shape outlines that you can trace so you could draw like a perfect square or heart or whatever.
🖊 Pen 🖊
Do you prefer to write with pens or pencils? Pens. Easier to handle.
What color ink pen do you write with the most? Black.
Where do you normally buy pens? I'd go to the local bookstore chain.
What was the last thing you wrote down? I was logging in as a guest at Bea's condo.
Do you enjoy writing? Do you enjoy how it feels as your hand glides across the page? ✍️ I like writing. My wrist just gets tired too quickly so I don't do it a lot, but when I'm in my element I definitely enjoy how passionate I can get.
🗑 Trash Can 🗑
What do you call a trash can? Do you call it a trash can, wastebasket, rubbish bin, garbage can, or something else? I call it a trash can, the trash, or the Filipino word for it.
Do you need to take the trash out soon? Nah, not so much a need for it yet.
What day is trash pick-up day in your city? Monday, if I'm not mistaken.

What is today's date? April 20th.
How many months are there until your birthday? 🥳 24 hours.
How old will you turn on your next birthday? This

Are you counting down the days to anything? I'm counting down the hours til my birthday!
What is your favorite season? We don't have the four easons.
🗒 Spiral Notepad 🗒
When was the last time you used a spiral notepad? Can I answer for notebook instead? I can't even remember the last time I used a spiral notepad lol. Anyway, for notebook – a few months ago when I felt like writing a poem.
Do you own a spiral notepad? Still for notebook. I do – it's my (former) college notebook. Back in college I had this notebook that had 5983738573948 pages in them because I thought I was gonna be scribbling down notes in every single class. Well some classes I took ended up not being note-heavy, so I was left with a notebook that was only half-filled haha.
A few years after graduating I ripped out all the pages that had lessons in them so it could feel like a new notebook again. I use it every now and then in case I feel like writing.
Would you rather write or draw? ✍️ Write.
Do you make to-do lists? I have a spreadsheet I use absolutely religiously for my work to-do list.
What are/were three items on your to-do list for today? I needed to finish a press release that I'd been holding off all week; finish a post-event report deck; and review a couple of videos produced by someone we outsourced so we could send it to a client for their sign-off.
What is something you did yesterday (or today) that you really enjoyed? Played looooooots and lots and lots of Rhythm Hive.
What is something that you've been putting off, if there's anything? Dyeing my hair purple again.
Are you thankful that your life story is still being written? Yes. I'm turning 26, so I'm only in like season 2 of Friends haha. I've got time.
⏰ Alarm Clock ⏰
What time do you usually wake up in the morning? Anywhere between 7:30 - 8:30 AM.
Is your bed made right now? Not perfectly. I didn't prop up the pillows properly since I was in a hurry to get to work.
Do you wake up to an alarm, or do you wake up naturally? I wake up naturally. Alarms don't wake me 80% of the time :/
Do you normally follow a schedule, or are you more spontaneous? I like some level of stability, and it's only when things are more or less in order that I'd feel comfortable with going spontaneous.
Do you prefer to follow a schedule or be spontaneous? Follow a sched as much as possible, but again I'm not closed off from spontaneity.
Do you have a clock on your wall? Nope.

When was the last time you changed a lightbulb? Never have.
Have you ever used your phone as a flashlight? 📱 Hundreds of times.
Do you own a flashlight? 🔦 We have one at home in case of brownouts. On my own, I have my phone and my BTS lightstick HAHAHA
How many lightbulbs can you see from where you're sitting right now? Two.
💿🗄💻📆🗂 Final Questions! 🗃📋🖇📠💾
Do you work in an office? We have an office but we're on a permanent WFH setup. We have a mandatory office day once a month, but anyone's free to book the place for use if they feel like working onsite for the day.
Have you ever had an office job? If so, did/do you like it? If you haven't had an office job, do you think you would like one? I'm currently technically in an office job. It's okay. I like the stability. There's always going to be a bit of a love-hate relationship with it, so I try to address it by striking the balance between passion and burnout and finally learning how to set boundaries.
What is your favorite thing to do on a computer? 💻 Take these surveys, heh.
Would you rather own a desktop computer or laptop computer? 💻🖥 Laptop.
What is your dream job? Doing PR for WWE.
Do you prefer writing something down or typing something up on a computer? There are things to each I like, so I don't have a preference. I like that typing is easier and is a lot lot quicker; but I like how much more personal handwriting something is.
Do you own a desk? If so, what does it look like? What do you have on top of it? Yup. I just have my lamp and work laptop on it, as well as a pen holder wih some pens + notepads from my Layover albums haha. During the day it will also have a cup of coffee.
What do you think is your favorite emoji among the ones on this survey? The CD one is quite pretty.

The Best HIDs for the Mac
HID stands for human interface device. This usually refers to keyboards and mice but can refer to anything that lets you provide inputs to a computing device.
I use the term HID rather than simply saying "keyboard and mouse" because the best HIDs for the Mac aren't a keyboard and mouse: The best HIDs for the Mac are a keyboard and trackpad.
The Mac has evolved a lot over the years, and so has its HIDs. There was a time where mice on the Mac only had a single clickable button in contrast to the PC's two: left mouse button and right mouse button.
I don't know if the Mac did this to differentiate itself from the PC or because Apple had done the hard work of researching to all hell mice and determined that an extra mouse button was superfluous. It might have been both.
While the Mac works very well with a variety of HIDs from third-parties, the best HIDs for the Mac are first-party HIDs, which is to say Apple HIDs.
The Best Keyboard for the Mac
While I enjoy a mechanical keyboard as much as the next nerd, the best keyboard for the Mac is one of the Magic Keyboards with Touch ID. There's a model with a Numeric Keypad and one without. Take your pick. I prefer the one with the Numeric Keypad because it has a Numeric Keypad but also because you can get it with black keys.
You can try to live your life without Touch ID, and while you might be able to accomplish much without it, Touch ID on a purchasable keyboard was a big deal for me when it came out. I had been waiting for Apple to create one for years as a Mac mini user, where BYOK (Bring your own keyboard) was the philosophy. This unlocks Apple Pay directly on your Mac without needing an iPhone or other device with biometrics (Face ID or Touch ID). Additionally and obviously: It lets you unlock your Mac or several applications that would normally require a password. Very cool.
The Best Mouse Trackpad for the Mac
We aren't going to talk about the Magic Mouse 2. And the reason why we aren't going to talk about it is because you can't charge it and use it at the same time, which is a ridiculous and indefensible design decision. Shame on you, Apple.
This leaves us with the Magic Trackpad. In 2024, it's technically the Magic Trackpad 2. The original Magic Trackpad was grey and took 2 x AA batteries and worked great. I liked it a lot; but the Magic Trackpad 2, while being rechargeable, also comes in Black, with a wider surface, feels silky smooth, and comes equipped with Force Touch, giving you more versatility in the input commands you can provide. Plus, as a flex: It has no moving parts. You aren't actually clicking it when you press down, it's just providing force feedback to simulate a click. Groovy.
I find it fascinating that an HID normally designed for laptops would make its way to the desktop and would become the best way to interact with your Mac. I supplement the functionality of the Magic Trackpad with the application BetterTouchTool, which lets you program additional gestures than those available in macOS. With the amount of gestures I can make on the Magic Trackpad, I never once feel like I'm less productive than with a mouse. I say this as someone who rocked a Logitech gaming mouse on the Mac for years specifically because I wanted to be able to do more with my HID. While I won't be gaming with the Magic Trackpad anytime soon (I think Minecraft was vaguely playable with it), I much prefer the touch and feel of the Magic Trackpad.

My Tech Setup
I’ll make separate posts for my software and bass guitar setups, but here’s my current tech hardware setup.
The overview. Details incoming!
MacBook Pro
My Mac is the center of it all — and I’m living the laptop-desktop lyfe.
Now, there are many things I like about living in Norway. And one of them, is that we’ve mandated by law that things like computers needs to have a 5-year warranty(ish). And this also applies to second-hand owners! So buying used Apple gear, is great here — and that’s how I bought my MacBook Pro when it was 10 months old.
It’s a 14-inch M1 Pro base model, with 512 GB of storage and 16 GB of RAM.
I do have to be mindful of the storage, and occasionally, I push the RAM. But it still works tremendously. I’ve never been this happy with a computer before.
Did you notice the Macbook in the previous image?
Apple Studio Display
Yes, it’s too expensive — but no, it’s not the same as just having a 4k screen. **And look at everything that happens when I connect one Thunderbolt cable to my Mac! **👇🏻
Power to the Mac
Power to the Xiaomi Mi Monitor Light 🖇️ (Website)
Laneware Macro-1
Laneware LW-67 keyboard
Both with Less but better keycaps and
Boba U4 switches (U4Ts in the large buttons).
Lightning cable for the Apple Magic Trackpad
Universal Audio Volt 2 🖇️ (Website)
PreSonus Eris E3.5 🖇️ (Website)
Grado SR125 (I don’t have X, though) 🖇️ (Website)
Røde NT-USB Mini 🖇️ (Website)
I just love that I can unplug one cable, and just take my laptop home with me.
When I had this at my home office, I also connected ethernet to the spare port, a mouse in the USB-A hub, and some more stuff.
I've tilted the trackpad (and its wrist rest), to improve the ergonomics. I should probably get a split keyboard as well...
Makes it easier to connect both my headphones and speakers to the Mac, and I also use it for bass rehearsel and recording, and for testing pedal boards. Fastened with Dual Lock.
The mic and monitors are fine - nothing more, nothing less. But very practical!
These sound great! Especially with Crinacle's EQ preset set through . Tons of leakage, though.
Desk accessories
The wool desk mat was custom ordered (to me previous, tiny, desk) from this Etsy store. The, equally custom, wrist rests are from this Etsy store.
I almost never need a wallet - so Apple's MagSafe wallet is perfect. The Moleskin notebook is just as under used.
The iPad and headphones stand is IKEA’s (very cheap) Havrehoj. I like it a lot!
iPad
I have the iPad Pro 11-inch from 2018 (the first with the flat sides), with LTE and 256 GB of storage. I also bought this used — in 2019, and it still works well (even though I’m starting to notice that it’s 5.5 years old, with the occasional slowdown). I’m one of those who loves having LTE — as it’s so nice to never having to worry about internet connection. I also used it as my «whiteboard» when I was a teacher — and could just switch to LTE if the school’s network was struggling. 1
I also have the Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard, which I like.
iPhone
Not in the first image, as it took it.
I’m a noted Mini iPhone enjoyer, and my iPhone 13 Mini (in Midnight) has worked perfectly since the day I got it. It fixed all the issues of the 12 Mini, and is a top-tier iPhone IMO.
Here are some things I’ll say ’til the day I die (and will fight everyone who disagrees with 💪🏻):
The ordinary (potential) Mini buyer is on a long update cycle, and has also bought SE phones. So when the SE got updated half a year before the 12 Mini’s release, many of those had recently bought a phone — and this hurt the sales.
The 15 Plus phone also «flopped», but doesn’t get nearly the same amount of flak!
The lineup with the 13 Mini, 13, 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max was the perfect lineup. Apple should be able to include a mini phone in their trillion dollar pipeline anyway. I don’t have particularly small hands (I just like to be able to use my phone one-handed), but many people do and should be well-served as well.
Here’s to hoping the next SE is a Mini. 🤞🏻 (But I doubt it. And, my next phone is probably a Pro for the cameras anyway…)
I also have the first gen AirPods Pro. I really like them, but I’ve had some troubles with them, and had to return them a couple of times. Luckily, there’s the whole government mandated warranty — so even though I bought them in 2019, I got brand-new ones (for free) as late as the fall of 2023. 🙌🏻
No, it’s far from as nice to just share from your phone. ↩︎

I'm 29, I work(ed) in IT in a globally spanning corporation. I had people in their 18's-25's coming in to pick up a new computer or remotely assisting set up of a desktop, that when told to turn the PC on, pressed the power button on the monitor and were then convinced the PC was "broken". Some didn't even know how to use a mouse, most didn't know that you need to plug the video cables from each monitor into the tower and would either daisy-chain both monitors together when they got home/unboxed it from the mail, or daisy-chain one and plug the other into the tower so only one monitor would work. I'd have to instruct them how to fix this over a zoom/google meets call on their phones or tablets to painfully go step by step through the most basic of troubleshooting steps starting with the power cables and power bar.
These adults aren't computer illiterate, they're computer forgien. They've used tablets their whole lives, or maybe used a laptop trackpad at best. They type by hunting-and-pecking, and googling something or using a search engine was not something they were ever taught because they've never searched for something outside the google play or apple app store. I have a "Know Your Computer" crash course built to teach young adults how to use a PC, complete with terms correction so they know that monitor, tower, and PC are not the CPU. Yes. They call monitors, towers, and the PC as a whole "CPU". Monitor or tower won't turn on? "There's a problem with the CPU.". The education systems of many countries has failed them. This isn't a "US problem". I worked with people from India, Columbia, the Philippines, Britain, Mexico, Canada, the States, you name it. It's everywhere. Globally, we're not teaching kids how computers and the internet works. I'm a programmer and IT technician, but the majority of my career has been spent teaching the next generation of adults coming into the workforce how to use a windows desktop computer. It's disheartening.
Guys if I'm posting about a webcomic I'm almost always tagging the title and almost always you can just google "[title] webcomic" and it'll be the first result.... do they not teach kids how to use google in school anymore?
