I just knocked on Adelaide’s door to find her on a FaceTime with two girls from school — one a constant bestie and the other a girl she was estranged from this year. Which is big.
Adelaide and the estranged girl were thick as thieves last year and then a frenemy wedged herself between that girl and Adelaide’s usual group. I was very sorry to see that happen, especially since the frenemy came with getting in trouble at school and home. That girl had a hard year because of it.
I’m delighted to see she’s working her way back in, and I hope that continues.

Tumblr media
Spencer Reid x Teen Reader
Request: Maybe the teen (about 15 ish) daughter of an unsub who spencer is questioning about her unsub dad and there's clearly more that her dad is doing to her that she won't tell him about and maybe she gets a little clingy to spencer?
Third person pov...
Y/N walked into the police station, she had been called by thr sheriff to come in, they had some questions for her. They had been calling about her Dad all week.
Which of course made that his reason to beat her, accusing her of rating him out to the police, she promised him she never said anything of course he never listened.
Y/Ns father is the serial killer the police have been looking for, hes been kidnapping and murdering young girls who he finds annoying in some way for the past 6 months, a new one goes missing every week.
Y/N of course has witnessed every kill and kidnapping, the man was ruthless if he wasn't killing and making the girl watch, then he was abusing his daughter.
Still recovering from the beating she got jsut before she left the house the teen pulls at her clothes making sure her neck and wrists are covered.
Limping slightly she tells the receptionist who she is and they tell her the sheriff if waiting for her, giving the officer a smile she walks through the busy bullpen until she get to the sheriffs office.
Knocking on the door she walks in. "Hey there Y/N, glad you could come down" Says Sheriff Briest, he stands up and walks towards the teen, noticing how she steps back automatically.
The sheriff of course noticed, he had been called to the L/N residence alot over the years since Y/Ns Mum died, reports of crying and shouting coming from inside the house.
When questioned Mr L/N would tell them everything was okay and that Y/N was acting up, these lies continued all her life making the young girl seem like a troubled teenager who was rude and never listened to anyone.
Though the sheriff knew something was wrong he saw the signs and so did his officers but knowone was able to do anything about it as Y/N never told anyone not even when she was a kid.
Threat of death proved to be useful, Her Father would remind her what would happen should she tell anyone. "There's some people I want you to answer some questions for okay" Says the Sheriff.
Y/N freezes sightly as they walk into one of the briefing room that was usually unoccupied, but was now being used by a group of people. 'FBI' thought the girl instantly.
"Agent Hotchner, Y/N is here. Y/N these are the Behavioural Analysis Unit. They are here to help us find the killer" explained Sheriff Briest, Y/N doesn't look up at the people.
If she looked anyone in the eye she'd get beat again by her Father. She learnt that the hard way when she looked up at someone who was speaking to her Dad when she was 6. Since then she avoids eye contact.
"Hi" Says the teen looking at the shoes of the agents. "Hello Y/N, I'm Agent Hotchner these are Agents Jareau, Gideon, Morgan , Greenaway and Dr Reid" says polished black shoes.
"Nice to meet you" mutters Y/N, soon she is sitting in an interrogation room with Dr Reid. Nervously tapping her finger on the table she waits for the young Dr to walk in and ask her questions.
Minutes later the man walks in and sits down on the chair infront of her. After a few seconds of silence he speaks. "Hello Y/N, my names Spencer I work with the BAU, I'm going to ask you some questions okay?" He tells the girl.
Y/N nods her head. "Yes sir" she mutters wanting to go home and not be there. "Now can you tell me about your Father" Says the man, Y/N freezes her tapping increasing as she shakes slightly.
Trying desperately to stop shaking she answers the question. "I love my Dad, he doesn't do anything wrong he loves me" she says, her voice robotic as if it had been planted into her head as an automatic answer to that specific question.
Spencer takes notes of her behaviour, eyeing the two way glass he askes another question. "I'm sure he does, now, does your father leave for long periods of time, not telling you where he's going or why?"
Y/N hesitates before shaking her head. "He doesn't, Dad is always as home after work, dad loves me he doesn't do anything wrong" Spencer notes how the last part it connected to the answer from before.
"Okay, Y/N. Does your Dad hurt you?" Spencer knows asking that question would have a strong reaction but he didn’t expect the girl to slam her hand on the table and stand up and start pacing.
"No he doesn't hurt me! Dad loves me he doesn't hurt me" she yells almost crying, tears in her eyes but not falling yet, Spencer gasps at the raw emotion in the 15 year old eyes.
Desperation seeped into her voice, as she stared into the man's eyes, he noticed this was the first time he had seen her eyes. Suddenly the girl gasped and slammed her back into the wall.
Gripping her head she bring smacking her back against the wall. "Nonononono can't do that against the rules can't do that" she mumbles falling into hysterics, Spencer is soon joined by Derek and Elle.
The two had ran in when Y/N started repeating to herself. The three stand in shock not knowing what to do to help, Spencer is quick to notice the bruises on her neck and wrists. "Morgan" he whispers, the man nods his head he's seen the bruises on the girl.
Pulling out his phone, him and Elle leave Spencer alone with Y/N, the girl is still smacking her back on tjr wall as if she was punishing herself, the man slowly inches towards the grill.
"Y/N, Y/N its me Spencer remember" he whispers to the girl, holding out his hands non threateningly he speaks to the teenager desperate to calm her dow from her panic attack.
"Nonono broke the rules" muttered the girl. "Y/N you haven't broken any rules, your Father can't get you here okay, your safe your safe with me" he tells the girl, slowly Y/N pulls her hands awa from her hair and stopping smacking her back against the wall.
Smiling at the teen Spencer stays back. "I'm safe here" she whispers horsely, Spencer nods his head. "Yes that's right your safe here, I won't let anyone hurt you" he says.
Y/N slowly begins to inch closer to the man eagerly seeking comfort, soon the girl was throwing herself at him, Spencer hugs her tightly whispering that she was okay and he wouldn't hurt her.
An hour later the Team and swat had arrested Y/Ns Father for the abuse she suffered and 15 accounts of murder.
Over the next few days adter they had caught the killer, Y/N had grown close to Spencer, she wouldn't let him out of her sight scared her father would come and hurt her, Spencer stayed with the teen while she recovered in hospital from the abuse she suffered from her father.
The end!
Hope you liked this oneshot sorry for the wait, as usual sorry for any grammar and Spelling mistakes.
Request are open!

Question.
I have heard people assert that the current bearer of the heroic identy of the Guardian is a clone of the original. I have also seen photos of The Guardian working with the Titans, and...he's very clearly a Black man.
So, um. I have questions, because you would think the newspapers back in the '30s would have... mentioned this, especially given how he was reported to have campaigned hard to ease ethnic tensions in the poorer parts of Depression-era Metropolis, denouncing those who exploited or exacerbated those tensions as being friends of crime and enemies of America's ideals even before the War started?
Ok so, we're crossing a lot of streams here and I want to you to know that that's normal. These sorts of things are opaque and confusing and that is why we HAVE people like my in the first place. You are thinking of 3 different men right now. In order:
Guardian I, AKA James Jacob "Jim" Harper
Tumblr media
(Sketch of Harper and his wards the "Newsboy Legion" signed by the legendary pop artist and correspondent Jack Kirby)
Harper was indeed born and raised as an orphan in the Metropolis neighborhood known as Suicide Slum (the name has stuck but I can tell you, in the 21st century it's as clean and safe as the rest of Metropolis, mostly to Black Lightning's credit). During the depression it was infamous for a reason, flush with organized crime, poverty and corruption.
Harper originally attempted to serve his community as a police officer but found that the police department was half or more of what was wrong with the neighborhood in the first place. After being assaulted by some gangsters he cobbled a costume together from a nearby shop (which he still paid for, incidentally). Bursting into a nearby pool hall his attackers frequented, he actually ended up busting open a rather high profile kidnapping case.
Eventually he became the legal guardian of a group of young delinquents called the Newsboy Legion and helped to turn them toward the path of righteousness. He joined up with the All Star Squadron early, served with distinction during and after the war. (We have an exhibit here all about him, the costume and shield are reproductions of course because both are still in use more or less, even if they weren't they're rightfully in the hands of his next of kin)
He was cloned under vile circumstances by the equally vile Project Cadmus, who were up to all kinds of immoral and unethical genetic experiments. When Harper attempted to put a stop to it, he was killed by Cadmus' head of security.
The murder was uncovered and prosecuted through the combined work of Superboy, the clone of Harper and Cadmus' secretly enslaved workforce the Genomorphs. Who are a subject all of their own but, if any should be reading this, I hope you are thriving.
The cloned Harper is still active as a superhero in the modern day. One can assume under an assumed name but variants of "Jim Harper" wouldn't jump out at people even if he was going by it day to day. Out of respect for his privacy I'm not going to speculate any further into his personal life, one can assume he has been through MORE than enough.
Now the other man you spoke about is VERY mysterious indeed...
Tumblr media
(The 3rd Guardian alongside Bumblebee in battle against The Ant, unknown photographer, posted online) You are right in that he is very clearly a black man and that is basically ALL I can say about him. He seems to come and go, always in the company of the Teen Titans, is in some manner of romantic relationship to mainstay member Bumblebee and he just up and vanishes for long stretches of time. (This was put together by clips captured of them in combat. Referring to Bumblebee as "baby", "dear" or "my girl". And being referred to as "babe", "lover" and "man of mine")
Theories, of course, abound with the most popular one being that he is the romantic partner/husband/whatever of Bumblebee in their civilian identities and while not a superhero by trade he will take up this identity when needed. A "friend of the family" I guess you could say who hops in when the Titans need an extra pair of hands.
He's competent in combat and seems to be trusted implicitly by the Titans themselves so who the hell am I to judge?

Second Army disorganization
Siege and Storm- Chapter 14
One of the most frustrating and famously nonsensical passages of Grisha trilogy, easily explained through doylist approach- the author's inability to write strategy or politics and demands of the genre, requiring a weak, unfit heroine to defeat immensely powerful opponent way out of her league:
Tumblr media
Alina: Oh no, they dare to oppose me again! :(
Isn't that why would you want to establish a council in the first place? So you get constructive criticism and suggestions to do things better?!
My objections to the notion Alina came up with representation of Grisha can't be more obvious:
Army is a structured organization. There are ranks and councils by default. No amount of ignorant teens will persuade me calling it "Second" makes it otherwise.
Any big organization has a structure. Even if Second Army were only about education, there would be councils and posts on different levels. Hell, school system works that way.
Tumblr media
Alina: I'm gonna have the useless ones represented, because we're not doing things like the Darkling, but that doesn't mean I'll respect them myself or abandon my prejudices. Fucking nerds. Weidos...
Another YA nonsense- you cannot put people into categories based on their physical predispositions, and expect the mental ones to fit accordingly. You can have a huge, muscled guy, skilled in delicate handiwork. You can have a tiny wisp of a girl beating the living shit out of you (popular trope by itself).
Now why should sensitivity to metals get you a spot in labs, if you're a strategic genius? Or incredibly skilled, witty rhetorician? Isn't it more likely you'd be required to complete basic training to stay healthy and prevent accidentally endangering others, while being assigned to whatever you're most useful at?
And what about those weak or less intelligent ones? Are they bringing coffee and arranging entertainment?!
It also fits this fan interpretation, that Materialki are often neuro-divegent, so they are tend to be kept away from battle for their own sake.
Tumblr media
Alina wasn't involved in practical running of Second Army before. Just because she doesn't know about something, it's not a totally fresh idea.
I'd be afraid of a girl, who almost murdered a bunch of people for asking questions, too.
Tumblr media
At this point, I'm gonna run with the idea that all the older Grisha are torn between face-palming and silently laughing their assess off (so Alina doesn't overhear and her clique doesn't resort to violence).
Tumblr media
“But what do they do in there?” I asked, not entirely sure I wanted to hear the answer. “Only the Corporalki know. But there are rumors that they’ve been working with the Fabrikators on new … experiments.”
Shadow and Bone- Chapter 8
... and that says nothing about the field, or the little groups in noble houses. People tend to stick together with their own, when in strange enviroment. I'm sure such bonds dissolve immediately after their return "home".
I've also delved a little into the sitting order here.
Tumblr media
A few lines earlier, Alina noted Materialki didn't show up to complain. Who is so horrified then?! Not them, for sure.
Ironically, this fits into Fabricator-brain theory linked above AND the most logical explanation- Materialki have basic self-defense training, but only those, who are able to, continue. Alina isn't particularly friendly with any of them, so how would she know no one had EVER bothered to teach them? Alright, there are none in her class, but as far as we know, it consists of a Squaller, an Inferni and a Heartrender. Not the most saying sample.
Having a third of all Grisha helpless doesn't fit into the picture of Aleksander's leadership:
“That’s what Botkin always says. ‘Not showy, just to make pain,’” I said, imitating the mercenary’s heavy accent. “Smart guy.” “The Darkling doesn’t think Grisha should rely on their powers for defense.”
Shadow and Bone- Chapter 17
You don't have to become another Bruce Lee, you only need a chance, when they drag you out of bed in the middle of the night.
Tumblr media
What tradition?
Tumblr media
This is rather well-written group of angry, disorganized people. It might start with a reasonable goal, but soon everyone talks about something else than others, and the message gets lost in the noise.
Tradition doesn't equal "the way things are done". Neither of them is the same as "the need for structure and people knowing their places". The third one is a legitimate concern, although one could argue it's exactly what Alina's attempting.
This whole scene very much reads like:
The author is desperate to prove the Heroine isn't quite useless- she has good ideas! Look! *whacks a hundreds of years old stategist and survivor par excellence with stupid stick*

“Remember, kids, if you’ve got a racist grandparent who espouses negative views toward an entire group of people, then you’d better listen to them because they’re right! Some entire groups of people are just collectively evil and can never be trusted!” - Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken
If there’s no discourse about this now, then I suspect there will be soon once more people see or hear about this movie because good lord. For those who don’t get it, the context is that in the film the main character Ruby discovers that she’s actually kraken royalty and this of course creates generational angst between her and her mother and grandmother because everything’s gotta have generational angst in it these days. She is told by her grandmother that mermaids, the long-time enemies of the krakens, are all evil and untrustworthy sirens who manipulate people and seek domination over humans. Ruby also befriends a mermaid named Chelsea, who specifically calls attention to this feud between the two species and specifically says that she wants to put a stop to it with Ruby’s help. And so Ruby naturally says “screw your bigotry, Grandma; I’m standing by my friend even if she’s a mermaid”.
......Which leads to the inevitable third act “reveal” that Chelsea was actually manipulating Ruby the whole time in order to acquire a source of power, doesn’t actually desire peace between the species, and just wants to assert domination over humans as is her kind’s wont.
Look, if the bullshit about krakens and mermaids was not present in the movie, then despite what a hackneyed obvious “twist villain” scenario this is I still would have accepted it because it would just be an isolated incident between two individuals. Without the species feud, you could just freely respect Ruby for having such an open heart and positive nature, and freely hate Chelsea for remorselessly taking advantage of that for her own self-serving agenda.
But because this occurs against this specific backdrop, the movie is flat-out saying that racism is justified and that the teen protagonist should’ve listened to her racist grandmother! All mermaids ARE evil, untrustworthy sirens who manipulate people and seek domination over humans, and Ruby was a total dumbass to dare to believe otherwise about Chelsea!
Imagine if in The Little Mermaid, Ariel is exposed as a mermaid, Prince Eric immediately reacts with disgust before he and his followers harpoon her to death before cooking and eating her bottom half. Guess King Triton was right, all humans are heartless barbarians!
Or imagine if in Luca, the townspeople accept all of the sea monsters at the end, only for the sea monsters to murder them all in their sleep and lay waste to the town. Guess all those fearful superstitions about sea monsters were accurate and should have been listened to!
Or imagine if in Zootopia....oh heck, do I even need to give this example?
If you think I’m overreacting here, then just swap everything said about mermaids in the movie and replace “mermaid” with “Jew”. Chelsea’s Jewish now. Ruby has the audacity to believe that her Jewish friend isn’t some heinous caricature made of her people, only to learn that actually that caricature is spot-on, so from now on she will never trust a Jew again and will accept her position defending humanity against the evil Jews. Sounds fucking horrible when I put it that way, doesn’t it? I recently said that it’s a good thing that kids have recently been getting more stories calling out how wrong prejudice is, so to see a movie aimed at kids that is actively justifying and encouraging prejudice is mind-blowing in the worst way possible. Who the Hell signed off on this? Did nobody stop to consider the unfortunate implications? Did they think making Chelsea a caricature of a pretty, popular, two-faced Mean Girl justified applying that characterization to her entire species? Or was this Jeffrey Katzenburg being a petty bitch (again) over the fact that The Little Mermaid was being remade without him and he just wanted to stick it to Disney? Whatever the case, I’d recommend giving this movie a pass.

Please please tell me your ideas I will be so normal about it I am not at all desparate for Broken Masquerade content
Boy I have so many ideas I actually need to put this in a draft to list all of the brainrot things I’ve had circling in my head!! This does include some negative things so feel free for me to ask to tag.
All of the colleges (Particularly Harvard) adding Thaumaturgy to their classes is extremely cool in the canon and I think there should be many more schools
Site-43 College beloved I want to go there so badly please be real c’mon :[
Those Facebook mom groups…oh boy there’s so much drama
Lord help all the poor kids with minor anomalous power
Segregation with schools, even restaurants
A lot of anomalies end up in homeless shelters because not many jobs are willing to take the backlash of anomalous employees
Shitty parents faking their kid having a dangerous anomaly so they can send them away
Because they think the foundation would just kill them because of all the propaganda
You know that the cults are gonna take advantage of this to try and grow their numbers
Chaos Insurgency propaganda against the foundation
A flag that shows your support for the foundation, GOC, anomalies hanging outside your home
New Genders from the tumblrinas like us
Twitter DNI’s are a genuine hell
‘DNI IF YOU SUPPORT SCP’S/THREAT ENTITIES/OBJECTS’
‘Block me if you call anomalies SCP’s that’s a slur’
Speaking of slurs there’s probably a lot more
COTBG members constantly calling the Nälkan’s Sarkics just to piss them off
And Maxwellium members getting real pressed over internet drama
Someone trying to make the nicknames the Serpents Hand has into a slur
Dr. Glass walking down the street and just has someone scream ‘JAILER’ at him and he is desperately trying to not commit a crime
Also Twitter being Twitter
‘Is it wrong to kin SCP-076-2? I’d murder too if I was under the ocean.’
Extremely dangerous TikTok trends involving anomalies that makes both the GOC and SCP have collective heart attacks
Some girl posts a video from a foundation site doing Macarena during a breach and is just immediately cancelled on every platform
You know there’s gonna be dumbass teenagers trying to find some real dangerous shit to seem cool
‘Oh a lake full of bodies that makes you enter through mind control??? Sounds cool and not totally dangerous I’m gonna find it and go swimming’
Gonna readmore this it’s getting long lol
Five missing teens later the foundations getting slandered even though they did nothing
Articles with the ‘How to tell if ‘X’ is an anomaly’
Of course they’re bullshit and usually offensive
Charities to support anomalies
An actual cult around 2662 that didn’t spawn anomalously
You fucking know that the Christian’s will either take 343 well or absolutely horrifically
There’s also two sides of people when it comes to Cain and Able
The ones who hate Cain and think Able is reasonable and the people who think the opposite
Cain’s also not allowed to leave site-17 for more than just the fact he’d kill plant life it’s for his own safety tbh
Meri does get chances to wander the woods! Just..not in public because they rampage that would happen with the amount of broken phones and cars would be horrible
Iris gets to go home because she deserves it
I feel like Gerald would become a meme in general and people pay his hospital bills for him lmao
Parents keeping their kids out of school and switching to online or homeschooling to keep them away from anomalies
Conversion camps to send your kid to so people can ‘release them from their curse’
Those got the serpents hand real heated
Speaking of them they have the snarkiest Twitter account ever and just roast the living hell out of every word that comes out of the foundations mouth
Podcasts
So many fucking podcasts
There already is a writing on the broken masquerade hub of the foundation making a video with outdated slang to appeal to kids
But I think Dr. Gears should just stare at a camera and say swag with a straight face it would be beautiful
Kondraki, Clef and Gears get called dilfs and not a single one of them knows what it means
‘Kain’s the goodest boy’ even though he’s morally corrupt as fuck is very common
But he will Fuckin run if you even try to touch him he does not need his fur messes up
Ok I don’t want this to be a mile long so I’ll stop here but!!!
If you want more dm me so we can talk 👀👀👀 I need SCP friends

Because my pookie @jnephrite did this for her OC Morgan, I’m trying to do this for my OC Aqua!
Timeline of Aqua Charming!
year -2 — Aqua (11) meets Donna Troy (12) for the first time. The two become close friends and visit each other on their respective home islands.
Meanwhile, Dick Grayson’s (11) parents die and he is left with his Aunt Harriet (53) as his only surviving family member. He is adopted by Bruce Wayne (27).
year -1 — Aqua (12) starts “dating” Johnny Alto (12).
Dick Grayson (12) becomes Robin and meets Donna Troy (13).
year 0 — Aqua (13) and Johnny (13) sneak into the woods at night where Johnny gets turned into a vampire and aged to a 20 year old man. Aqua breaks up with him and he is thrown in prison after terrorizing Brooklinia and Aqua.
Dick Grayson (13) becomes best friends with Donna Troy (14) and Wally West (13).
year 1 — Aqua (14) travels to Gotham where she stays with Bruce Wayne (30), Harriet Cooper (56), Alfred Pennyworth (60), and Dick Grayson (14). She becomes Blue Comet the same year.
Later in the year, she has her first awakening of new powers. She goes back to Brooklinia after her parents catch the culprit trying to murder them. Before leaving, Dick Grayson kisses her on the cheek. The two exchange identities and promise to stay in touch.
year 2 — Aqua (15) returns to Gotham to ask for Dick’s (15) help in finding a friend of her’s named Garth (14). Dick recruits Wally (15) and Aqua recruits Donna (15) to help find him. Along the way, they meet Speedy (14) who helps their search.
When they find Garth, the group of six fight Orm (his captor). They would have been killed if Aqua didn’t have her second awakening while saving Dick Grayson, unlocking a new set of powers. They realize how well they work together, and Donna suggests they call themselves the Teen Titans.
Dick Grayson invites Aqua Charming to his school’s spring cotillion and the two exchange their first kiss.
year 3 — Aqua (16) and Dick (16) become an official couple. The Teen Titans move into Titans Tower and recruit more members. They go on many adventures together, and recruit more members.
Dick Grayson starts to think he should strike out as his own hero. Bruce Wayne and Silver St. Cloud have a son named Arian.
year 4 — Bruce Wayne (34) adopts Jason Todd (13). He becomes the new Robin. Dick Grayson (17) becomes Nightwing.
Bruce Wayne marries Silver St. Cloud (33). Silver is murdered at the alter.
Aqua Charming (17) takes the Titans to Brooklinia where they all witness the murder of her parents. Overcome with grief, Aqua unlocks her third set of powers.
year 5 — Dick Grayson (18) proposes to Aqua Charming (18). The two become engaged and take a leave of absence from the Team, leaving Wonder Girl (19) in charge.
Jason Todd (14) is murdered by the Joker, but is brought back to life rather quickly by his girlfriend Macy Cobblepot (13), who took him to Ra’s al Ghul. In exchange, the two work for him in the League of Shadows.
year 6 — Aqua Charming (19) and Dick Grayson (19) are married. Aqua gets pregnant during their honeymoon. Aqua is crowned Queen of Brooklinia the same year.
year 7 — Aqua Charming (20) gives birth to Richard John “Rickey” Grayson II on Dick Grayson’s (21) birthday. Rickey is born as a stillborn. Overcome with grief, Dick brings his son to the Lazarus Pit in Gotham where he finds Jason Todd (15), alive. Rickey is brought back with a white streak in his hair.
Tim Drake (13) becomes Robin. Bruce Wayne (37) has a relationship with Talia al Ghul (35) before breaking it off.
year 8 — Aqua Grayson (21) unlocks a new, and final, set of powers when Johnny Alto (20) nearly kills Dick Grayson (22). She later gives birth to Caroline and Conner Grayson.
Talia al Ghul (36) gives birth to Damian Wayne.

What the fuck is an animorphs and why are you going insane about it
OOOHHHKAY. WELL.
animorphs is a childrens sci fi book series most people know best from the fucked up covers that feature children turning into animals. like so:
Tumblr media
anyway behind these goofy late 90s-early 2000s covers is a devastating story about the horrors of war and the difficult moral decisions that the characters (who are like 13 at the beginning of the story, mind you) face while trying to save their planet from an invasion of brain-controlling slug aliens. and also goofy as hell things like instant maple oatmeal being a drug, god being an alien gamer, and an alien obsessed with cinnamon buns. there are 52 books in the main series each told from the pov of one of the six animorphs and several side books that provide more lore or supplementary adventures. featuring:
- jake, who is the leader and #1 killjoy ever and i always thought he was boring so i dont remember much about him
- rachel, gymnast shopping queen and ruthless murderer slash battle addict. absolute tragedy of a girl. imagine if sasha waybright was allowed to transform into a bear at will and commit murders on screen. if youre into oversimplification thats pretty close to rachel.
- cassie, animal lover and moral center of the group. people will gush about how animorphs makes you think about difficult moral quandaries and then call cassie annoying like shes not the reason we get that kind of introspection in the first place. girl is Literally always trying to do the right thing and Spoilers: she is right about A Lot. never trust a cassie hater
- marco, the platonic ideal of the sad clown. silly guy, full of jokery and stereotypical middle school boy-ness. also cynical and ruthless to the max and very interested in self preservation. where cassie is the voice of moral reason, marco is the voice of practical reason. his mom is dead so thats fun. hes also bi coded as hell
- tobias, loser bully magnet turned full-time bird boy. the trans animorphs fans have claimed him as our representative due to his perpetual identity struggles. he was my favorite as a kid alongside rachel hmmm i wonder why anyway i cant say much about him thats not spoilers but he's sad and trapped in this by destiny even more than the rest of them and i love him so goddamn much
- ax, blue scorpion tailed centaur stranded on earth who is the equivalent of a stereotypical elf. snobby and elitist bc of his species being composed of assholes but once the teen disillusionment sets in hes a good kid. and bc the andalites dont naturally have mouths, watching him play with word sounds and obsess over food is hilarious and kind of heartwarming in the best cheesy space-alien-meets-human-culture way
anyway the moral is u should read animorphs the pdfs are easy to find online there's a graphic novel series with a few books out now and im pretty sure theres also audiobooks (theres also a 1998 nickelodeon live action tv adaptation. dont watch it its bad and also it got cancelled before the books even finished coming out)

hi! i’m the anon who asked about your opinion on stancy and nancy’s selfishness a few days ago. thanks so much for your reply! i saw the tags your reblogged to that ask, and i actually wanted to add one something to the discussion.
i hope this doesn’t come across as trying to counter your answer. that’s not at all what i want to do. i actually completely agree that if nancy worked on some of here tendencies, stancy could be a pretty decent ship, and i also like the parallel of her presence wanting stve to be a beter person, and the opposite happening. i also agree that nancy’s relationships with other people have a lot of unexplored potential and that many of her issues are due to the writing.
i think the part where my opinion differs is because without the narrative supporting nancy, i have a hard time seeing stancy without steve’s anger, at least initially, about the way he was treated in their relationship. he knows nancy was using him, to an extent, when she called thier relationshp bullshit. she said they both murdered barb. steve may or may not know about the cheating, but he does know she got together with jonathan within a few days of their fight/break up, which would have raised some questions. and for me, i think this anger is as important as nancy’s grief over barb was, in that i can’t see stancy without it, in fandom or canon.
i guess robin is another example, although hostility, instead of anger, may be a better word. robin and nancy know each other as steve’s friend and steve’s ex. robn holds grudges; she was pissed at steve for eating a bagel wrong. it doesn’t make sense for her to follow around the girl who dumped him with starry eyes. i can’t really buy any of robin and nancy’s s4 friendship, because, for me, robin’s hostility should have been central to it. yes, nancy is a traumatized teen, but she's not the only traumatized teen the group.
again, i hope this doesn’t come across as me trying to counter your answer. i love your more positive takes on stancy, and i honestly think that having more positive views of characters can lead to a much better fandom experience.
i wanted to send this in more for discussion. i thought it was interesting how focusing on slightly different aspects of a character or their relationships (i.e. the potential for nancy and steve to grow vs focusing on steve's anger) could result in very different ideas on how we want their storyline to go. if you have any thoughts on this, i’d love to hear them!
thanks in advance :)
hey anon, that’s actually a really good point!!
i think when it comes to steve’s reaction to the break up at large (i’ll get into the cheating in a second), i can more forgive it than the way nancy’s actions are treated elsewhere because steve is just so totally in love with her. he can accept that he’s not the one she wants because he just wants her to be happy. which is why he steps aside. his love for nancy overrides any resentment he may feel.
i do however think as he gains distance from the relationship, he would kinda think… maybe i deserve better than that. maybe nancy shouldn’t have stuck by me if she thought we killed barb. maybe she should’ve just waited for jonathan. but i think with time and the two of them growing as people, this is totally something they can have a conversation about, and look back on more maturely etc.
but the cheating is slightly different. even if you only recognise it as more emotional cheating than physical, it’s still a major issue of steve’s. especially if the person cheating is someone he wants a long, serious relationship with. i don’t think steve would go nuclear like he did in s1, he’s grown a lot emotionally since then, and he cares a lot more for nancy, so i just don’t think he’d want to do that to her. but that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t affect him. at what point, and who he found out from would depend on how deeply he was wounded. i do think it’d probably make him take a step back, and reevaluate the relationship. and i think if it wasn’t nancy that told him, that could really have a bad impact on stancy. i kinda waver on whether i think nancy telling him in s2 vs s4 would be better. in s2 it’s a lot more raw, but at least he would know immediately. and in s4, he’s healed more from the relationship, but it’s been kept from him for so long.
but regardless (if it was one of better reveal options), i do ultimately think it’s something they could come back from. they’re young, and they’ve both made mistakes, and i think if nancy totally admitted she fucked up with the cheating, their relationship could recover. though i do think if we allowed steve to truly feel betrayed and angry, stancy wouldn’t be getting together anytime soon. at least until steve’s gotten over his mommy and daddy’s issues lmao.
and i think you’re totally right about robin too. it would make so much sense for her to hold a little grudge against nancy. for a couple reasons: 1. stancy shit. 2. nancy not knowing her at starcourt despite being in the same grade. 3. the barb shit (if we go by the books, which i wish we did!!!! makes them so much more interesting). i just think friction between robin and nancy could elicit so much growth for nancy. less so for robin i suppose, because i think a lot of her friendship with steve did that kind of work, but it would still have impact!
and don’t worry! i do really love discussions like these! focusing on characters in a more positive light is really enjoyable, but it can still be fun to pick apart the more fucked up things they’ve done. and i’m a hater at heart so ❤️ lmao

Annabelle is a private detective with some particularly questionable clientele--namely the Solanum family. When the family head is murdered, it was a natural conclusion for his son and successor to ask her to help solve the case. Annabelle might have thought the case was a good bit of fun, if only the primary suspects weren't leading somewhere a little too personal.
There isn't too much here at the moment, since I haven't spent much time on the one recently, but I have a cover and a few full pages posted!

Missing
Under: #Missing Ghosts
In the ruins of an earthquake ravaged mall, a group of teens find an unconscious young girl. At the hospital she claims to be Katie Easton--a girl who went missing alongside her twin sister ten years ago. But if she really was Katie Easton, then how had she seemingly not aged a day? And what had happened to her sister?

AC Odyssey:
And finally, the one I think most of my followers have at least stumbled across!
Under #ChildrenoftheMountain au
When Alexios had staggered to his feet after being thrown from Mount Taygetos, he believed himself to be the only one to survive. But stepping over the priest's corpse towards the bundle of blankets beyond him proved him wrong.  Nearly a decade and a half later, the relative safety they had found in Kephallonia was quickly vanishing. With Kausos burned to the ground and the cult having found them once again, the list of reasons to stay was quickly dwindling. When the opportunity to board the Adrestia and never look back presents itself, Alexios, with Kassandra and Phoibe in tow, takes the chance.
(I swear I'm working on the next chapter, alas it's been fighting me.)

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a trans teenager was stabbed 14 times in a “shocking and violent” attack in London.
The victim, an 18-year-old trans woman, was rushed to hospital after police were called to Masons Avenue in Wealdstone, northwest London at around 7pm GMT on Saturday (10 January).
19-year-old Summer Betts-Ramsey has been charged with attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon in public. She will remain in custody until March 12, when a plea hearing is set to take place at the Old Bailey, the London Evening Standard reports.
Willesden Magistrates Court heard on Tuesday (13 February) that the victim had arranged to attend a roller-skating party with friends in Harrow Leisure Centre on the day of the alleged attack.
She was allegedly attacked by a group and was subjected to transphobic slurs before being stabbed 14 times. She was rushed to hospital for treatment and subsequently discharged.
Four people have been arrested in connection with the alleged stabbing.
Detective Inspector Nicola Hannant, who is leading the investigation, said in a statement: “This was a shocking and violent attack and we continue to support the victim and her family as she recovers from her injuries.
“We have already arrested four people however we continue to appeal for anyone who may have been in the area or who believes they have further information to come forward and speak to us.
“We have increased police patrols in the area and would encourage people to approach these officers with any information or concerns.”
The attack came just one day before a vigil marking the one-year anniversary of Brianna Ghey’s murder took place over the weekend. The trans teenager was stabbed to death in Warrington last February by two teenagers, Scarlett Jenkinson and Eddie Ratcliffe, who were both handed life sentences earlier this month.
Laura Mackay, CEO of LGBTQ+ youth charity Just Like Us, said: “We are horrified to hear that yet another trans girl has been stabbed in the UK this past weekend. No one should ever have to fear for their safety because they are part of the LGBT+ community.
“Just one year on from the murder of Brianna Ghey, we are still witnessing anti-trans jokes in Parliament, shocking comments across social media platforms, and newspaper headlines that seek to mock and vilify.  It is clear that transphobia, in any guise and at any level, leads to devastating hate crimes.
“Trans young people deserve to feel safe at home, at school, or while out roller-skating with their friends – the violence must stop.”
Anyone with information about the incident should call 101 with reference 6306/10Feb or contact independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Book Blurb:
Knives Out meets The Inheritance Games with magic in this standalone supernatural thriller by Sarah Henning: thirteen witches, a locked-room murder, and two non-magical sisters trapped in a deadly whodunit.
Ruby and her sister, Wren, are normal, middle-class Colorado high school students working a summer job at the local Renaissance Fest to supplement their meager college savings.
So when an eccentric old lady asks them to impersonate her long-absent grandchildren at a fancy dinner party at the jaw-dropping rate of two grand—each—for a single night… Wren insists it’s a no-brainer. Make some cash, have some fun, do a good deed.
But less than an hour into the evening at the mysterious Hegemony Manor, Ruby is sure she must have lost her mind to have agreed to this.
The hostess is dead, the gates are locked, and a magical curse ensures no one can leave until they solve both her murder and the riddles she left behind—in just three days. Because everyone else at this party is a powerful witch. And if the witches realize Ruby and Wren are imposters? The sisters won’t make it out of Hegemony Manor alive.
Review:
Knives out meets magical locked room murder mystery when two sisters take up the job of pretending to be other people at a party only for bodies to start dropping... and did I mention this was a gathering of witches? Ruby is a seventeen year old girl and her sixteen year old sister Wren both are middle class working students who get an unexpected job opportunity while working at the local Renaissance festival. Ruby desperately has been saving money for college so when a stranger offers her and her sister $4000 to pretend to be her granddaughters at a family party, it should be easy money right? Ruby is weary but needs the money while Wren is absolutely on board. The job is simple: one night, pretend to be her granddaughters, deflect conversations, and that's it.... or is it? During the party the hostess ends up murdered and the gates are locked... and surprise surprise it turns out the gathering was for 13 witches from different families and with the hostess dead a magical curse is placed that ensures no one can leave until they both solve her murder and the riddles she's left behind.... in thre days or be forever trapped on the grounds. Ruby and Wren are completely over their heads now, they are regular humans now stuck in a house with witches who have magical abilities... and the person who hired them has abandoned them. Now they'll have to find a way to keep the act up and survive the weekend, catch the real killer, and absolutely avoid falling for the cute guys who are determined to find out the killer. With all the suspects trapped in one house, the clock ticking, and a murderer amongst them.... can Ruby save herself and her sister before it's too late? This started off really interesting but the pacing got a bit slow and the mystery itself felt a bit muddled in the middle. I previously read a book called These Deadly Prophecies that absolutely nailed the "Knives out meets magical murder mystery with a dash of romance" and felt that that book did it better. This one wasn't bad it just wasn't as great. I didn't like the characters as much and honestly, Wren got on my nerves so much. Ruby was a fine protagonist and the romance was light, the mystery was my main focus but it just didn't feel all that well laid out and paced. Overall it's a fine mystery magical read for YA readers who want a bit of knives out with witches and a touch of romance.

Penelope Garcia x Autistic Victim teen reader
Just thought of this idea and I had to write it.
Summary: A murder of two people happens in Virginia, the only witness is their 14 year old Autistic teen, the girl wont speak to anyone so the team send Penelope in to calm her.
Third person pov...
The Sheriff and two squad cars belongimg to the Virginia police deparment are parked outside a house, in a well known neighbourhood a third  murder happend, this time the victims were Mr and Mrs L/N.
The only one left alive was there 14 year old daughter Y/N and jsut like before she witnessed everything. The killer wanted her to see them kill her parents, the poor girl was traumatised by the experience and hasn't spoken since.
Currently the girl is at the Police headquarters as she kept having panic attacks and Meltdowns when she saw the bodies and the living room where everything happend.
The police also called in the FBI specifically the Behavioural analyst unit as it's in the same state as their HQ and hopefully get some information on the Insubs behaviour from the witness to help find the killer.
With the BAU...
As the team get in JJ calls them to the round table with a case, as they all take their seats Penelope included JJ begins the briefing.
"Okay this time it happend right here in Virginia, two days ago the murder of Mr and Mrs L/N happend, they were killed in the living room of their own home, their daughter Y/N witnessed it happen" JJs vocie wobbles as she reads about the daughter.
Gasps are hears from around the table, Penelope is barely holding back tears. "That poor child, knowone should have to watch that happen" she says as Derek rubs her shoulder.
JJ nods agreeing. "That's not all, so far this is the third murder that happened in this same neighbourhood, but this time he left a witness." Finishes JJ she sits down as everyone thinks about the case.
"That poor girl, witnessing all thus, not wonder she isn't talking" Says Emily, "if this is thw third murder then why are we only being called in now?" Asks Rossi.
"Because the police didn't think they were connected until the killer struck again." Hotches then stands from his chair the others doing the same. "Rossi and Prentiss You go to the recent crime scene, Reid and Morgan you go to the MEs office, JJ you and I will set up at the Police station."He commands the team nod and all leave in their groups.
The man waits until Penelope is the last one. "Garcia" he calls and she turns around. " I'm going to need you to talk to the witness, I believe you are the only one who can talk to her" he says
Penelope is shocked, she's never spoken to a witness before but she is determined. "Yes sir" she said before leaving with the others.
Time skip...
When the team get to the police station they are greeted by the Sheriff, who was a close friend of the L/Ns. "Thank you for coming" he says shaking Hotches hand. "Of course Sheriff" Says the man.
The sheriff then brings them to the empty office that Y/N had taken over. The team watch from the window at the traumatised girl rocking back and worth on thr sofa as if she was in a trance.
"She hasn't left this room since she was brought here from her house, the poor kid. I knew her Family, great people can't believe someone did this to 'em" sighs the sheriff, the man then leads them to an empty conference room ready for them to use.
"You can use this, just please catch this barstard before any more kids loose their parents" he says before leaving them alone. The team the split up into their pairs and head off to the crime scene and ME office.
Penelope and Hotch arw the last ones in the room before Penelope makes her way to the room where Y/N was, the woman knocks softly before walking in.
The girl doesn't seem to notice her, the brightly coloured woman grabs a chair and sits infront of Y/N not to close but close enough to tlak.
The 14 year old continues rocking herself and not making eye contact, her hand fidget with a toy bunny in her arms, as Penelope works up to speak. "Hi Y/N, I'm Penelope I'm with the FBI, if it's okay I'd like to ask you some questions" she says to the girl
Y/N doesn't stop rocking but nods her head slightly, Penelope smiles "Okay, well I was wondering if you could tell me what happened two night ago?" She asks knowing how horrible if was to remember.
Y/N stills completely as if she was frozen her E/C eyes widen with fear as she relives that horrible day over and over again. Her hand reach into her H/C hair and pulls hard snapping herself back to reality.
Flashback...
It had been a normal morning fir the L/N family Y/N was getting ready for school while her parents were getting ready for work. "Arw you ready yet Y/N/N!" Yells her Dad from the stairs.
Y/N grabs her bag and her favourite fidget also her headphones before running down stairs. She stand proudly in front of her dad smiling. "Done!" She exclaims as her Dad shakes his head smiling.
He then turns to the living room where his wife would be. "Now taking y/N to school Honey" he yells, but gets no answer confused he and Y/N walk into the living room only to see a man holding a gun to his wife's back her hair gripped in his hand.
Y/Ns Dad stands protectively infront of his daughter as his wife yells at them to leave, which only get a yank on her hair from the man behind. The unsub takes the gun away from her and points it at her husband as Daughter.
"Do as I say or you both die" he says glee in his voice, Y/Ns parents hesitate before complying knowing it was better to go along than not too.
End of flashback...
As the girl comes back from the flashback she realises she is on the floor and smacking her head hard on the floor tears rolling down her face as she realises that horrible day, As she cries Penelope manages to put a pillow to protect her head.
Y/N watches her like a hawk before she tries to speak her voice nothing but a whisper. "It was a man...he..he had a gun to mums head...dad had to go along...he tortured them...he..he" she can't continue as sobbs rank her frame.
Y/n let's the blonde woman pull her in for a tight hug. "I'm sorry you had to realive that horrible moment Y/N, but you have help us, my ream came find the perosn responsible because of you" she whispers to the girl as she calms down.
Penelope continues to hold the girl as she cries.
The end!

An Old Comrade
This is a mix of a dream and the song born without a heart
The last thing I remember was the sound of the scrap metal Bomb and bright lights. I told that idiot Jake Sully to stay out of the enemy bunkers. But of course he didn’t listen, he never does. So as his captain I had to save his dumb ass again. I should have had him discharged but he had his moments. I know that I was only 19 and he 20, but I was quick to climb the ranks once I joined the army at 17 and 1/2. I was his captain I had given the orders to take a specific route to the target but he thought he knew better. I normally never make promises but I promised that knucklehead’s brother that I would bring him home and I don’t break my promises. That promise I made to a scared, desperate brother… a smart brother who reminded me of my own older brother… one who was murdered. He was why I joined the army. So I dumbly promised to bring him home and I got killed because of it.
I was dead until I wasn’t. I woke in this blue body with some guy talking about revenge for me if I helped them with their vendetta, something I never wanted… but something told me that I had to play along. So I did passively until we came across some what they called Navi that were fucking children and the group were actively threatening them. When Quartreidge hummed, “Ah you’re his.”
Not only were they threatening children but his… I gritted my teeth but tried to stay calm. I was able to brush off the lady man handling the youngest fairy easily without setting off any suspicions. I leaned forward and hoped to whatever power there is that the idiot taught her the codes from our squad as I whispered, “Let the sand settle.” I was trying to tell her to settle and wait. And she did and then a voice called out and was going back with Quartreidge. Then a voice that I recognized chimed in and I piped up “Don’t let the hair on your neck stand up Jake, like in the sand pit!”
Aka be quick, we’re doing the same thing we did in the sand pit. I tossed the child behind me knocked out one holding on the teen girl and went to shoot the others as they had now caught on and luckily an Adult man and the woman were able to help push out the other. The woman didn’t make a move to harm me but she kept her bow armed and the male gestured for her to lower the weapon, “Captain?”
It was Jake’s voice, my eyebrows shot up,“knuckle head? Damn look at you!”
Jake came over to me and crushed me in a bear hug, “Neytiri come meet my old squad leader and Captain, (y/n). (Y/n) was a great leader and saved my behind more than once.”
“I wouldn’t have had to if you had the capability to follow a simple order and I also wouldn’t have been blown up if you had just listened just once.”
Whispers from the boy with his sides shaved, “Dad didn’t fallow orders? He got someone killed?”
Neytriri chuckled, “She’s feisty, I like her. But forgive me, but you don’t look much older than our oldest son. How could you have been to war with my husband? I hope you don’t mind me asking.”
“I was 19 when I died…. They… those people… put me in this body… I don’t know how… they thought I would be angry with what happened… enough to want Jake dead… but clearly they didn’t do their research on me because even if I was…”
“You never allowed the children to be harmed if you could help it. (Y/N) wasn’t like anyone I had ever met before on earth… well maybe Tommy but just different.” Jake finished.
The boy with the full head of braids stepped up, “Dad? You know her? She was with them. What is happening?”
“I will explain later, and you will also have to explain yourself, but right now we need to get to safety. (Y/n), if you like you can come with us. I know it’s not like anything we ever knew before…”
“Thanks Jake… but I don’t know the first thing about this place.”
“That’s okay, neither did I at first. But you haven’t just saved my life repeatedly but now my children. We will teach you to be one of the people.”
Neytiri came up to me and hugged me. I stiffened as this kind of affection from strangers was a foreign concept for me. “Come, if Jake trusts you, so will the clan.”
… after a briefing on the structure of the clan and its culture
“You can barrow some of my clothes until we can teach you how to make your own.” Neytiri says as we stepped into a large hut.
“It’s the best way to fit in.” Jake says standing next to me, “we can help get it on.”
“I am comfortable in what I have on. Well if I cropped the pants into shorts and just wear my undershirt I will be good.”
“It’s definitely something that takes getting used to. I remember when Jake switched to our clothing, he wouldn’t stop picking at it.” Neytiri chuckled at the memory.
“It will be good for you to fit in.” Jake coaxed.
“And I am good with what I have. I have enough to get used to, like being brought back from the dead after my dumbass corporal got me blown up. Not to mention I am in a body that’s not my own… I am good with my clothes. But I am okay with the bare feet thing. I never liked shoes anyway.”
Jake wrapped an arm around me and squeezed, “Alright for now. But can we agree to at least make the traditional clothing so when you are ready, you will already know how to do it?”
“I have no objections to that… I can’t believe you learned another language and culture… I am proud of you. I’m sure Tommy is too.”
Jake had a sad look in his eyes as he says, “I think he would be too… Tommy was murdered, but if he could see me now I think he would be proud too. So how about we get some sleep and in the morning I will take you out to hunt. That will be the most important thing for you to learn… while we do that we will try to help you learn the language.”
… the language was difficult and Jake was the leader of the clan so he was a busy man. He always tried to be there for all the beginnings of any training but he couldn’t be there for all of it so his oldest son eagerly volunteered. Neteyam was only a year younger and quite the charmer and eager to hear stories about his father. I followed behind Neteyam as he spoke slowly in his native tongue, he was careful to keep a pace I could keep up with. We were practicing my comprehension and language skills today. Today the topic seemed to be on my upcoming initiation and pick of an Ikran. I can’t say I was enthusiastic about the Ikran thing… I barely am able to walk through the trees without freaking out about the height. Neteyam stepped into a clearing and seeing where we were, I realized he wasn’t talking in future tense but rather present tense. I tried to pivot on my heels and there was Jake. I glared and muttered, “you ass.”
“I know you don’t like heights but the captain I knew would forget her fear of heights when called upon. I know you can do it. The first time is the scariest part. You will be a natural. Neteyam told me that you have really been excelling with everything else. You got this.” Jake says planting a hand on either side of my shoulders.
“He’s being too kind. I thought we said we would do this next week… this is why he brought this topic up in Navi.”
“It worked you understood enough to know what he was talking about but not enough to get worked up.” Jake leaned over, “Don’t think about it, it’s always worse in your head than it actually is.”
“If I die because of this I am adding this to your tally.”
“Sure, now go get ‘em captain.” He chuckled.
And that is when I found Daisy, my Ikran.
“(Y/n), I think we need to leave for the safety of the clan… which means we need you to fully adapt including the clothes.” Jake says sitting me down.
I groaned, “fine but can you please help me with the tail… I have already tried before and I can’t figure out if I am doing it wrong or just not used to it.”
He agreed and he helped me tie the loin cloth and then handed me something like an infinity scarf. “Here, I know you like to be a little more covered, so I made you this… it goes around your body twist it over your neck to secure it… finish dressing and then start packing. We will meet for dinner and then call for our Ikrans and go.”
“Thank you Jake.”
….
The flight was long and tiring. It was so long that the giddy feeling that I get from flying left my body and left me numb. I was too drained to care about the voice when we arrived and the way they spoke with a cutting edge. I just stood close to Jake and let him do the talking. This Jake is much more put together than he was before.
Neteyam stood to my right and was shoulder to shoulder with me. I could see him mimicking his father’s stance. Even in tense situations he wanted nothing more than to be like his father. I found it sweet, the father he knows now is someone to admire. Neteyam has already surpassed his father when I had known him in the army so I predicted he would do the same for this Jake too. Neteyam doesn’t believe that is possible but I told him every father’s dream is for their son to surpass them one day. After all if the child surpasses the parent then they have done their job.
We were allowed in and I was more worried than ever. I barely knew the language and if they were to find out I was more of an outsider than they knew. Will I ever learn their ways? I sat alone amongst the stars and watched them sparkle from the beach. Jake, and his family came to sit with me. Tuk was the first to speak, “Dad said today is your birthday! Happy birthday!”
I looked at Jake and shrugged, “Is it really? I suppose it’s been about three months since I have been in this body I only had three months till my birthday when I died… I guess it is… strange how time is almost nonexistent here. What a whirlwind of a day for a birthday.” I hummed.
Tuk leaned against me and I pulled her close. She seemed so pure. She pointed to Neteyam “in two more months Neteyam will be 19. Your birthdays are close together.”
I chuckled, “Yeah? Back home you would finally be done with school… if you didn’t drop out or skip ahead by taking the GED test like I did and would be expected to become a contributing member of society.”
“Same here. If we were back home he would have been allowed to start courting for a mate. But given time he will earn his place here too. You will find someone too. You are too amazing to be left alone Captain, the boys will be swarming just like back home.” Jake teased bumping his shoulder into mine playfully.
I accidentally let a loud laugh escape my lips, “I don’t know about that… I’m okay alone. I got too many demons running in my head.”
“I think that you are great.” Neteyam piped up.
I give him a soft smirk, “Thanks kid.”
There was the smallest fleck of hurt in his eyes but I brushed it off as him not liking me calling him kid as technically we are just a little over a year apart if we go by consciousness time.
The next morning I was walking with Lo’ak down for the lessons we were to attend. Lo’ak was definitely like the Jake I once knew. Fiery and a little rash like he was. I was snacking on some berries that I had gathered earlier when Lo’ak says something that has me choking on little berries. “You know he likes you, you know, don’t you?”
“What? Who?”
Lo’ak rolls his eyes, “Neteyam.”
“No, you’re brother just idolizes your father and I’m just someone close to him from his past.”
Lo’ak stopped, “after you guys went back to the canopy, Neteyam and I stayed back and…he just lost it. He thinks the world of you.”
“Not me the idea of what your father sees in me. Your brother is seeking out your father’s approval and I clearly have that and so he has misplaced those feelings.” I shrugged.
Lo’ak growled, “No, you’re not listening! He likes you. You’re all he talks about. The day you came into our lives he would tell me how pretty, sweet, brave and smart you are.”
“I saved you guys the day I met you … it’s transference.”
Lo’ak did that hiss his mother does when she is frustrated with Jake and walks off. I let it go.
When the boys got into a fight with Aonung and his friends I barked out with my best Navi language and old Captains voice that demanded attention. “Enough! Line up now!” They did, “Stand up straight! Now someone care to explain why the fuck you are rolling around on the ground, fighting like little girls?”
Lo’ak practically jumped forward to explain. I sauntered over to stand in front of Aonung, “Well boy is it true?”
“Well…”
“Yes or no boy! It’s not that hard!” I barked.
“Yes.”
“Not a good look for the future chief of the clan. Bullying someone so much smaller than you. Does the little lady scare you, boy?”
“No!” Aonung replied indignantly.
“Well you sure fooled me. Perhaps you owe Kiri an apology… don’t you agree?”
He nodded, “I am sorry for my behavior Kiri.”
Jake didn’t like how I handled it and made Lo’ak apologize and when Aonung sent him into a sticky situation I told Jake it was his fault.
….
When Kiri had her seizure I had rushed to the family canopy to find Jake’s friends from his time in the science building. Luckily Ronal had already saved Kiri by the time I had heard what had happened and came back. I was out on my own because I was feeling the tension of the boys and me and thought we needed space. But we clearly had issues here “Jake? How are they here?”
“I radioed them.”
“You idiot! Why don’t you just radio RDA and surrender yourself while you’re at it.” I growled. When he tried to act confused I clarified, “Radio waves can be tracked to a degree!”
The realization hit and he started to panic, “I… I just wanted to help Kiri.”
“Well did they fix her?”
“No Ronal did.”
I absolutely lost it, “You couldn’t have started there? Jake I thought you changed! I thought you started to think things through! You are just repeating the same stupid shit you did when you got me blown up!”
“Kiri was sick!”
“And there are clearly healers here! We need a plan. We need to get ahead of this!”
… four months later we for now have resolved the issue and things were rocky. I now often find myself staying to myself and sleeping on the beach. Neteyam came out and sat next to me on the beach. “Hey… will you be coming back home? Dad is really sorry and he misses you.”
“I don’t know… a lot has happened… I just… feel so frustrated. I have all these conflicting feelings and until I get them sorted I think it’s best I keep my distance.”
Neteyam scooted closer to me as I gazed at the sky. “Wouldn’t it be easier to talk to him?”
I chuckled, “I suppose but you know as well as I do that is a lot easier said than done.”
“Well what if I go with you? I could help you talk it out.”
That was the first time I saw Neteyam as more of a man than as my comrades kid. He was mature when I was feeling juvenile. Earth never allowed for me to have any time to develop emotionally like I have seen here. Sure they still have to learn to survive but there’s a softness to it. “Neteyam… you have become quite the grown man.”
He chuckled, “I have been for a while now. You just haven’t been paying attention.”
“Oh and what else did I miss?” I teased.
Leaning forward so that he was just a breath away, “How about how much I adore you. How much of a good mate I would be for you…”
I pulled back as I stiffened up. I don’t know why I even asked that. Lo’ak had told me Neteyam had feelings but I couldn’t of imagined this. The word mate here is like earths married couple but they are permanent here. He was talking about it like a lifetime decision was nothing… a no brainer. Something you just jump into… sure we have spent time training but that’s nothing to compare to being with someone. I felt the need to run so I took the only thing I could think of. “I think you are right, I should talk things out with Jake… but by myself.” I quickly got up and walked away to find Jake.
I pulled him to a secluded area and my face must’ve said everything because he asked, “is everything okay?”
“No yes… I don’t know too many things are happening at once. I don’t know it’s all so much and I just need my friend so I guess this part has been made easier in a way.. Jake…I’m sorry I got so mad at you I don’t know what came over me… but it was like I was back in that war… when you were so careless. I know that you didn’t intend to do anything so stupid.”
“It’s okay, I get it… I was really an idiot and even more so back then. I can see that it brought you back… back when I got you blown up… now what do you need your friend for?”
“Well… started with your son asking for me to come talk things through with you.”
“But that’s not what got you all freaked out… is it?”
“No… let’s just skip to the end Neteyam made a comment about him being a good mate for me. Back on earth I probably wouldn’t have batted an eye. Marriage was never something that it is here… and he is your kid and I don’t know how he got to wanting that level of commitment. We have never been around each other outside the trainings and your family stuff. So where is that coming from? I don’t understand… that’s such a big thing for you guys and he barely knows me.”
Jake thought for a moment, “Tell me… what exactly has you so freaked out about him wanting to be your mate?”
“I… I don’t know… I guess it’s just that I don’t know if I am someone who can be loved…or love the way that he or anyone really deserves…”
Jake nodded, “You don’t feel like you deserve to be loved?”
“Don’t you think that your son deserves better?”
“Captain, you know I think you’re amazing and clearly so does he.” Jake says with a gentleness to his voice.
I shifted and fidgeted as I tried to gather my thoughts, “But how can he know with so little… why me? I don’t know if I could ever reciprocate such feelings.”
Jake nods, “Well some just know…. Others learn to love the mate that was chosen for them.”
I cocked my head to the side, “What are you saying Jake?”
“Would it be so bad to be mated to him?”
My jaw dropped, “Jake! Don’t you want him to have someone who adores him?”
“I want someone who clearly cares for him and you do.
I groaned, “I care for you and Lo’ak and Kiri and Neytiri are going to say that I should be your mates?”
“No… I am saying… that you over think…and here you need a mate… you care enough about his happiness that maybe that is enough… I know what you went through growing up and I am sorry I brought it up and I won’t do it again… but because of that you don’t know what is out there… maybe take the jump and let him catch you. You deserve to be loved.”
“What about him?” I whispered.
“Let him decide if he’s alright with whatever you have to offer. If you can’t give more… would it be so bad to be mated to him? You at the very least know that you care for him… whether it’s because he’s my son or because he’s someone in your life…. That could be enough. I’m saying I support it, you’re a good person. ”
“So I should just agree to be … his?”
“It is the way of the people… to create Tsaheylu it brings you so much closer. It is a powerful bond and I think it will help you find your own place here. Maybe heal some wounds… and if it doesn’t would it be so bad for you to be bonded to Neteyam?”
“No… but he deserves better.”
“That’s how I know that he’s picked the right one… you want him to be happy and have all the love that he deserves.”
I followed him home and we both got into our hammocks and fell asleep. In the morning we sat together for breakfast. Neteyam gave me a soft smile, “I am glad that you have patched things up.”
“So am I… thank you for pushing me…” I whispered.
He nodded, “of course… about last night… I wanted to apologize.”
“Don’t apologize for speaking your truth… we should talk later.”
He nods…
We walked down the sandy beach and I stopped, “I don’t know if I am capable of the kind of love you claim to have for me… I don’t know if I can adore you… I don’t think I am capable of it.”
He tucked a piece of hair behind my ear, “I have enough for the both of us.”
“You deserve better.”
“I don’t want better, I want you. Come to Eywa with me.”
He took my hand in his and squeezed. I agreed and we decided rather than going to the water we would fly out to the nearest tree of voices. It was a long flight but it was closer to what he grew up with.
He led me deep amongst the trees and the knelt down. I followed suit unsure of what exactly to expect. I knew this was heavily spiritual for them, but I don’t know what exactly it involves. He ran a hand down my neck, then arm taking my hand in his bringing my fingers to his lips, “Ma Yawne, (my love) I promise to be a good mate to you… to be there for you when ever you need me and give you space when you need it. I will always support you and I know you’re unsure but I will be patient and help you in anyway you need me to.”
I nodded and he reached back and pulled over his shoulder his queue, so I did the same. He closes the distance and the tendrils enter twine. I am filled with this feeling that I can not explain. It was overwhelming and tears began to flow down my face. Then an emotion I was familiar with mixed in… worry he was worried. He took my face in his searching for answers. “What is wrong? What is happening?”
I couldn’t speak as the gasps and sobs were racking through me I braced myself by placing my hands on his shoulders. My eyes widened and my mouth hung open as I explored the feeling. As I found myself able to pull myself together I squeezed my eyes closed. What was this feeling that made my skin feel electric? Was it just the feeling of our nerves being connected? Yes that had to be it… our nervous systems were connected and it must be over stimulating. I focused on that thought and was able to control my breathing enough to compose myself. I looked up at him panting, “I am okay.”
His look of concern only softened, “Yawne, please… tell me what is going on?”
“Neteyam what does Yawne mean?” I asked focusing on the foreign word in hopes of distracting him.
“Yawne means love. You are my love.”
I looked at him confused, “love me, you don’t even know me. Even if you did, what’s there to love?”
Neteyam reached out and stroked my cheek, “I love how when I speak you look at me like I’m telling you the most interesting things. I love how when you talk with dad the two of you laugh like your two kids. I love how you and Kiri just talk when ever she’s frustrated. I love how you let Tuk teach you things even if you already know how. I love how you can goof off with Lo’ak but when needed get him to be serious. I love how you look out for us no matter what. You are so kind and caring. I meant it when I said that I think you are amazing. Now do you want to tell me what is going on?”
I licked my lips, and took a breath, “when we created the Tsaheylu, I was filled with this overwhelming feeling and I have no idea of what it is. I have never felt this feeling before.”
“Oh? I see well… how are you feeling now? Do you want to stop?” He asked gently.
“No… no I’m okay.” I breathed as I reached down to untie my loin cloth knowing that part of mating was to have sex. Reached out and untied his as well. I placed my hand on his chest and tell him, “lay back, baby boy.”
He does and as he lays down he keeps his eyes on me. I take a deep breath and leaned forward to kiss his cock before taking it into my mouth. He bucked his hips instinctively, pushing his member down my throat. I just relaxed my throat as I sucked on him, looking up watching him scrunching his face in pleasure. I sucked and bobbed my head up and down chasing his high.
Before he cummed, he reached down and pulled me off. “I want to cum inside you… can I?”
I nodded and allowed him to flip us to give him more control. I spread my legs open to allow him access to my most intimate parts. He pushes forward and sinks deep inside of me. I groaned loudly bucking my hips searching for a release. I cried out his name as he threw my legs over his shoulders and leaned forward so that my legs were pressed against my chest. I reached around his neck to pull him closer, entangling my fingers into his hair. He laid sloppy wet kisses over my lips, twirling his tongue with mine.
His hips began grinding into mine. I could tell that he was close. “Come on baby, cum inside of me.” I cooed.
He growled, squeezing his eyes shut and shot his seed deep inside of me. The feeling of his ecstasy through the bond triggered my own orgasm. I let out a scream of ecstasy. This feeling was the most erotic feeling I’ve ever experienced in my life. He bit my shoulder as he pumped the last of his essence into me. He collapsed on top of me, still inside me as he panted “Yawne, that was amazing. You are amazing.”
I hummed pulling his hair back as I stroked his hair. “I am glad that you are feeling good. Rest easy sweet boy.”
He kissed my neck, “Sweet dreams Yawne.”
In the morning I woke up before Neteyam. I wriggle out from under him fixed my clothes. I found my bag and dug out something to drink. I pulled out my water bladder and brought it over to Neteyam. I gently woke up and pressed it to his lips, “Here drink this.”
He takes a few big gulps before pulling back, “Thank you Yawne.”
I take a drink myself, “We should get going.”
He looks at me solemnly, “I thought we could stay and listen to the voices… I haven’t been able to do it much since we moved here…”
“Oh… sure we can do that… um… but what exactly do you mean?” I questioned.
He smiled, “Has no one taught you to listen to the voices?”
I smirked playfully, “Well, you were my main teacher so I guess you could say that you really dropped the ball there.”
He chuckled, “Come, let me show you.”
Hearing the voices was beautiful. I wasn’t good enough to be able sort through the intermixed voices and understand but it was something else. “Wow… this is amazing!” He smiled brightly and it was a moment of simple bonding.
When the sun was highest in the sky, I pulled out a couple of large fruits and peeled them before handing one to him and finished peeling my own. He eats his fruit and though I am focused on my own fruit, I could feel his eyes. “You are staring.”
“I can’t help it, you are gorgeous even when you have bed head.”
My immediately one of my hands flew into my hair. Despite going for a flight, I had forgotten to French braid my hair. My hair wasn’t braided like the Sully’s hair is. I like my whispy hair and on days where I have to dive. I put it in a French braid. If I fly out to gather fruits I just tie it back. If I am fixing nets or helping with the sick, I leave it down. Normally I don’t care if I braid it for bed but with where we were going to spend the night and what we were going to be doing I had planned on braiding my hair. “Oh man! It feels all knotted!”
He chuckled, “You really should let me braid your hair.”
“No, I like my hair like this… but can you help me untangle this mess?”
He gestured for me to sit down between his legs and he began to thread his fingers through my hair working the knots out. Once done without being asked, Neteyam braided my hair into two French braids. “There, all done. Beautiful as ever.” He hummed kissing the crown of my head.
I smiled softly and we both flew home where he had a surprise. He walked me to one of the empty, unused canopies. “Tada! I talked to Ronal and she said that we could have this one to start our family!”
Start a family? “I will not be having children.” I said bluntly.
He paused for a moment, “You don’t want kids? Why?”
“I already told you I’m not capable to love. Children need love and I can’t give that.”
He stepped closer, “But…what if you can love?… Dad told me about what you went through…”
“He told you? That’s not his story to tell!” I snapped.
Neteyam placed his hands on my shoulders, “Yawne, I am your husband. He only told me to make sure that I knew what I was getting into.”
“Then it really shouldn’t come as a surprise then that I don’t want children.” I snipped.
“You let me cum inside you last night.”
“Birth control Neteyam. I take birth control, religiously. I don’t want children.”
He nodded, “I understand but can we come back to this in maybe a year?”
“Fine. We can reevaluate in a year but I promise nothing.”
We started living in our own space. It was difficult at first but I began to make repairs to our space and built various things for our living space. This lead to it be my responsibility to do this sort of thing for the whole clan, so now I didn’t have to dive. I loved it, I keep my hair however I wanted and I found it relaxing. One of the men would bring us some of their catch. This bothered Neteyam. “Sweet boy, you know that you aren’t able to fish all the time. Now you can go gather other things. Maybe go hunting like you did back home or gather fruit. Or you can give some to your family. Lo’ak eats more than an Ikran.”
“He is flirting with you. Why is he bringing you fish?”
I rolled my eyes, “because now that I am helping maintain the structure of the clan buildings and other little jobs, I can’t help provide for the family in the food department. He is just giving back. You can go gather fruits we like or go hunt like back home. I know you miss it. He knows that I am your mate. Relax, you can have fun now, relax.”
He did that hiss his mother does, “Naaahaaa, I provide for you! I am your mate, I am your husband! He is looking at you like he wants you!”
“He knows I am yours, relax. I found my place and just like your clan back home, this clan helps take care of one another.”
Neteyam scowled but stopped arguing. He just got to work on making dinner, while I worked on putting together a little tub for us. He placed the finished dishes on the small table. I set aside what I had left and joined him at the table. “Thank you for making dinner, Ma Neteyam.” I hummed.
He nodded solemnly but again said nothing. We had been together now for maybe a month or maybe it was two or three … no four! and we had only had sex when we mated, perhaps that was why he was so on edge. Once I finished my food I got up and shut the privacy curtain. “What are you doing?” He asked.
I smiled, “I’m going to go down on you baby, take off your clothes.”
He took his last bite before he quickly wriggled out of his loincloth. He leaned back giving me access to his already hardening cock. I slipped it into my mouth and sucked on it hard. His hands flew to my head pushing me down as he bucked his hips. I whimpered but relaxed my throat to accommodate more of him. His moans of pleasure as he fucked my face had me needing my own release. So I slipped a hand down to untie my own loincloth. I fingered myself which he found hot. His groans grew louder and his length stayed buried deep into my throat until he released his load inside my throat.
He pulled me off him and threw me on our bed. “Legs open, I’m still hungry.”
I threw my head back as I felt tongue swipe up my folds. He eagerly ate me out. I screamed his name each time he made me orgasm, four times in total. Each better than I have ever had before. I laid limp. He kissed up my body until he was hovering above me. I could feel his hard on rubbing against my thigh. I shook my head, “Too much, too much. I can’t please too much.”
He kissed my jaw, “shh, one more time.” With that he pushed into me. I whined, as I clawed at his back. I was seeing stars as he worked my body. He bit my shoulder as he shots his seed into me. He rolled off me and pulled me close. “That felt amazing Ma Yawne.”
….
Neteyam watched me work on the walk way. “Teyam, could you please help me tie this?”
“Of course, Ma Yawne.”
As we begin to spend more time together, the more I found myself feeling more comfortable with him. We were having sex more often and not just for the pleasure but for the intimate connection of it. I even allowed for the bond be made again.
“Teyam…. I… um… I think we need to talk.”
“Oh? What’s up?” He hummed sitting next to me.
“How do you know that you love me?”
He raised his eyebrows, “how do I know that I love you? Uh well you are the first person I want to see when I wake up and the last person I want to see before I go to sleep. Your smile lights up my whole world. You make me feel like sunshine, like warm sand against your skin. When I am without you, you are all I can think about. I crave your touch… I just love you.”
I nodded, “I see… Teyam…. I think I love you. I think this is what I am feeling but I find this feeling confusing.”
He chuckled smiling brightly, “love can be confusing… it’s not like anything else. It’s not easy to identify when you have never had it before… I understand why you were hesitant about it. I am glad that I am the one you chose to love… I love you. I see you.”
I smiled and pressed my forehead to his, “I see you too.”
He laughed, “now can we have a baby?”
I rolled my eyes. “Okay, okay. But I don’t know anything about babies.”

update on the stranger things watch the show (Byler) Fanfic I'm writing:
I feel like i've been neglecting those of you that follow the fic, so here's a scene from the next chapter to hold you over. so sorry. :(
_______________________
spoiler below
The screen changes again to Hawkins high school. Barbara and Nancy are walking together.
Nancy sighed at the sight of her friend. She loved seeing her again but she couldn’t help wondering how much longer she would get to. Not to mention that the sight of Barb was usually paired with her past self acting like a bitch. Guiltily, she was beginning to be less thankful for the ability to see her friend.
Barb, reading from a flashcard: “When alpha particles go through gold foil, they become…”
Nancy: Unoccupied space.
Barb, picking up the next card: “A molecule that can–”
Steve comes from the side of them and steals her notecards, as Barb quietly says “hey!” in annoyance Tommy gives her a wet-willie.
Steve frowned. ‘Great, another thing of me being an ass…’ He hated these types of scenes. He felt selfish considering this was the only time Nancy could see her best friend again, but he hated seeing himself like this.
Steve: I think you’ve studied enough, Nance.
Nancy: Steve-
Steve: I’m telling you, you know, you got this. Don’t worry. Now, on to more pressing matters. My dad has left town on a conference and my mom’s gone with him, ‘cause, you know, she doesn’t trust him.
Hopper frowned; he honestly couldn’t remember the last time the elder Harringtons were in town for more than the occasional weekend.
Tommy: Good call.
Steve: So are you in?
Nancy: In for what?
Carol: No parents, big house…
Nancy rolled her eyes.
Nancy: A... party?
Carol: ding, ding, ding.
Steve and Tommy laugh slightly.
Steve rolled his eyes at the screen. That wasn’t even funny.
Nancy: It’s tuesday?
Tommy, mocking: “It’s tuesday!”
Carol laughs with him.
Steve: Come on, It’ll be low key. It’ll just be us. What do you say? Are you in or are you out?
Nancy looks like she’s about to say no when Carol cuts her off.
Nancy sighed, she wished she just said no.
Carol: Oh, God. Look.
They turn towards the front of the school.
Steve: Oh god, that’s depressing.
Jonathan is shown putting up missing person posters for Will.
Jonathan was about to say something snarky, annoyed at Steve’s words when he looked over at the other teen and saw him looking regretful and angry. He decided to say nothing.
Nancy, softly: Should we say something?
Jonathan felt a smile threaten his face. He loves his girlfriend. Nancy often tried to hide it for some reason but she really cared about those around her. It was one of his favorite things about her.
Carol: I don’t think he speaks.
Will and Joyce glared at the screen. If looks could kill Carol would have been dust.
Tommy: How much you want to bet he killed him?
Several people gasped aloud while others glared even more at the two teens on the screen.
Steve wondered why he was ever friends with those two.
Joyce was considering murder. She hated how so many of the kids Jonathan's age were so mean. He was such a sweet kid.
Steve, pushes Tommy as he whispers: Shut up.
Murray rolls his eyes. 'little late for that kid.'
Nancy watches all this as she looks back over at Jonathan. Making a decision she walks away from the group over to Jonathan.
Nancy: Hey…
Jonathan: Oh, hey.
He turns away from where he was putting up the sign to look at her.
Joyce smiled a small amount. Nancy Wheeler was such a sweet girl.
Nancy: I just… I wanted to say, you know, um… I’m sorry about everything.
Jonathan looks over at the group still waiting for her by the wall, she looks with him. Then turns back.
Nancy: Everyone’s thinking about you.
Jonathan looks down.
Nancy: -it sucks.
Jonathan: yeah.
Nancy: I’m sure he’s fine. He’s a smart kid.
Will didn't know what to think of this interaction. It was just so weird. He hated watching his brother trying to cope with his disappearance. Though, he couldn't help feeling awkward seeing people talk about him like this.
The bell rings.
She chuckles: I have to go. Chemistry test.
Jonathan smiles: yeah.
Nancy, walking away: Good luck.
Jonathan: Thanks.
Jonathan watches the group leave, turning back to the poster as he’s the last one left in the hallway.
The intercom screeches as he leaves the school: "Attention everyone, tonight there will be an assembly on the football field in support of Will Byers and his family. All are encouraged to attend. Volunteer sign-ups for the search parties are still available in the office.”
Yeah, Will thought. This is weird.
Then Jonathan turns and walks out of the school.
Joyce frowned slightly. Where was he going?
Jim got a bad feeling. He really hoped that kid wasn't doing what he thought he was.

i dont really write posts like these because usually i figure no one cares, and because it's pride month i wanted to keep things mostly controversy free, but every now and then i find myself thinking a lot about specific things about this site's culture
a lot of people attribute the (relative) peace on this site (compared to how it was some 6ish years ago) to the Great Porn Exodus and while i do agree that was a turning point in tumblr culture, i feel like a lot of the mellowing out can be attributed to the fact that people on here literally just grew up. most of us were teens or preteens in 2014-2016, now most of us are early 20s-early 30s
still though, there are some things i've noticed in the way people here act that haven't really changed since then that's kind of...disturbing? for example, there's this pervasive lack of interest in other people's experiences besides your own---if you can't relate it to yourself somehow, it doesn't matter. people will pretend to care about other groups, because that's what a Good Person does, but they won't do any outside reading or research into other cultures, or issues, outside of what's dropped into their lap on tumblr
i remember some time ago when people were discussing the possibility of anne frank being bisexual, someone said that the possibility of her being lgbt made it easier for them to empathize with her. but shouldn't you be able to feel compassion for her anyway, because she was a teenage girl who was hunted down and murdered by a fascist regime in one of the worst atrocities in human history?
i occasionally see this article spread around, and for good reason, i genuinely think everyone on the planet should read it at least once and then maybe a couple dozen more times for good measure. and then every time you remember it, you should drop whatever it is you're doing and read it again. when i see people talk about this, they talk about how this is essentially required reading in understanding trans people. in spite of that, i constantly see people parroting the same exact sentiments the author calls out as bioessentialist and transphobic. this makes me think most of you just reblog the article without reading it because someone told you it was the Good Person thing to do.
i think a lot of the politics on here, and on places like twitter, are predicated on being a Good Person. you want to be a Good Person desperately, and of course being a Good Person means that you care about other people, especially people who aren't like you. so you reblog, you retweet, you share posts about the life experiences of people who aren't like you. this is the most you do. you don't read books, or essays, or articles written by people about their lives and their experiences, you don't look at studies about issues affecting these populations, you don't read literature written by these people.
this sort of thinking results in a menagerie of different behaviors, one of which is something i call "fandom as praxis" which probably deserves its own post at some point. but above all, predicating your beliefs on being a Good Person leaves you wide open to indoctrination, and ultimately, radicalization. this can happen to you literally no matter who you are as long as this is your mentality. the reason why this can happen is because:
there isn't a single person on earth who truly believes they're a bad person or what they believe is wrong. even the most vile of people, whether they be nazis, a terf, otherwise fascist, or any other strain of evil, believe wholeheartedly that they are good people and what they are doing is right. the only people who truly, genuinely believe they are bad people have probably killed themselves.
you don't have any actual understanding or conviction in your beliefs, so you're just going along with what other people have deemed are the beliefs and behaviors of a Good Person. when what determines a Good Person is changed, you change your behavior accordingly.
when put together, you have someone who is especially susceptible to brainwashing.
some time ago, i had a mutual who seemed like she became a terf overnight. it probably wasn't literally overnight, but it was very sudden. this was in spite of the fact that one of her close friends was transfeminine, and that many others in her circle were trans as well, people i assume would consider her a friend and were probably in close and frequent contact with her. i think the reason for this sudden shift is because of both the reasons i listed, in addition to the fact that the person who indoctrinated her was apparently her girlfriend.
i think i should mention that i don't think just anyone can become a nazi or terf; even with the two reasons i listed, what happens usually is that people start spreading harmful beliefs without thinking too hard about what those beliefs actually imply---this happens on tumblr/twitter literally daily---and the people spreading these beliefs are decidedly not reactionary fascists. i think in order to become a True Believer in genocidal fascism of any kind you have to be a very particular kind of evil, but discussing that sort of thing isn't the point, the point is that average, otherwise "good" people can still adopt these beliefs and patterns of thinking without becoming a fullblown fascist.
as i said in the beginning of this post, i wanted to avoid posting something like this during pride because i think we could all really use some moments of levity in times like these, and so i wanted to keep things lighthearted on my blog for the most part.
but i've also had this sitting in my drafts for some time now, and in a time where fascist and reactionary thinking gets more and more inflamed on the daily, i thought it would be appropriate to post this because i think in our fight against fascism, as leftists and marginalized people we shouldn't start thinking that we're immune to this kind of thinking by virtue of being leftist and/or marginalized, and we can't do anyone or anything justice if we refuse to expand our breadth of knowledge.
(please feel free to reblog and comment on this post if you want, or in the tags, i would love to hear what other people have to say on this)
