"why hasn't stede told ed about his trauma yet" does he even know there's any trauma to tell him about at all should be the question.
that man's been so repressed and tightly wound his whole life that he wouldn't even know where to begin opening up. he knows ed loves him and he still runs off to hide alone in his room after he's killed a horrible man who poked at his insecurities and triggered his deepest trauma right after insulting the man he loves.
he doesn't turn to ed for comfort when he's upset, he doesn't even process that he's upset, he just sits in his room flashing back to his childhood and panicking. he gets comforted anyway because ed loves him, but where ed's offering conversation stede takes physical relief instead, makes himself feel better without processing anything he just went through.
he's aware that ed loves him, and he's getting better at loving ed because he's a good observer and a very fast learner, but does he even know what being loved looks like. does he even have an idea of the immensity of what ed is offering.
he says "i know" and he means it, but he still fishes desperately for compliments five minutes later because he's still that insecure, still worried that if he doesn't measure up (to the kind of pirate blackbeard and zheng are in this case), he's gonna get left behind.
i honestly don't know what it would take to convince him that he can share his past with ed, that he can tell him about his fears and his self doubt and ed won't leave him for it, won't think weak and soft and not good enough the way everyone else in his life has before.
#welcome to my mind right now this fic is shredding me apart#ofmd#stede bonnet#alex watches ofmd#i think one of these days ed's gonna make a casual comment about something completely random and it's gonna trigger the breakdown of the#century#and he's gonna have to spend a whole week comforting stede at regular intervals#it's gonna be great for them terrible for me who has to write it

sorry i said no more posting but i lied: anyone else feel fucking crazy about people acting like we've just regressed into some pre-antebellum pre-diluvial hellfire epoch the likes of which we've never seen before. because last i checked 2020 was literally all of 4 years ago. my blog header has been the same longer than Biden was president. not enough time has passed for me to need my ID card reissued, or to get a TB shot, or to wear through a pair of shoes. and cops with riot gear have been beating protestors the whole time. all these trump voters were here last week and six years ago and will be here tomorrow. the US Government commits war crimes by proxy the same way they have every day that ends in y.
what is genuinely new here? what giant switch has been flipped? "the administration will do evil things more/louder/faster" i hate to break it to you but they were going to do evil things anyway. and they have been doing them. constantly. whether by vitriolic action or simpering inaction the material results are the same.
#like ok be upset i sure don't feel great either. but c'mon.#i can imagine feeling like trump's first term was a century ago if you're like 16 but full adults? people way beyond their 20s? cmon#boggles the fucking mind i feel like I've genuinely woken up in backwardsland#i say stuff

HI IN LIGHT OF CHAPTER 1114 OF ONE PIECE I AM COMBINING SOME THEORIES A BIT
It might be safe to say that I can axe my theory (here) that the world is sinking due to natural phenomena lol. BUT I'm gonna keep the idea that the people of the Great Kingdom knew the event would happen sometime in the future, and add on the one that connects Lulusia and Enies Lobby (here).
To summarize the latter, the One Piece Wikia has a trivia note on the Lulusia page that points out that the crater formed after Lulusia was destroyed is similar to the circular falls that surround Enies Lobby. This had got me thinking that 800 years ago, the same or similar weapon was used on an island (possibly the Great Kingdom itself) and the World Govt placed their judicial island over the subsequent crater as a monument to their victory and an example of the lengths they'd go for their "justice."
And now from the new chapter, Vegapunk has directly connected the rising sea levels from the Mother Flame weapon to the Void Century. “In order to understand where the world is heading, we must first address the past, specifically what happened 900 to 800 years ago.” This likely means that the weapon Imu and the Five Elders used existed 800 years ago, if one would need to know the past to understand what's currently going on. A threat from the past is also threatening the future. And I feel like with every chapter, there are more hints that suggest this weapon could be Uranus, the final Ancient Weapon. We know next to nothing about Uranus, except that it's one of the three Ancient Weapons mentioned in the Poneglyphs. Since the other two relate to the gods they're named after, many fans have theorized that Uranus will relate to the sky somehow. And as the lasers that annihilated Lulusia came from the sky, it's likely that the weapon is somewhere above the clouds, which would fit in the theorized theme for Uranus. Also the amount of destruction it caused aligns with what we've been told about the Ancient Weapons' potential. An island-sized crater in the earth that causes global earthquakes and rising sea levels certainly counts as mass destruction!
I've been mulling in my head since the last chapter that the Elders have had this weapon at least since the end of the Void Century, but that it could only be used with the Ancient Energy (the same energy the Iron Giant had run on) of the Great Kingdom and that technology was lost after its fall. And then comes Vegapunk who was researching this energy to create his own everlasting energy source to better the world, thus developing the Mother Flame. On a side note, I wonder if the Elders were using Vegapunk this whole time in order to create something that Uranus could run on. Idk I get that York tipped them off, but it seems too coincidental that the Elders would get a sample of the Flame and a guaranteed loyalist that can create it, and then order Vegapunk's death soon after. Vegapunk just seems like too much of a wild card to have been kept alive for so long.
But back on topic!! When the Elders were "testing the Mother Flame" on Lulusia, what I think they were really doing was seeing if that energy would work with Uranus. And because it did, they are desperate to make sure the Flame stays intact on Egghead, as it's they're only way to use Uranus. They've already shown the extent they'll go to in order to keep the world under their feet, it would be just a minor inconvenience for the world's land to sink if it means they can continuously subjugate entire islands in an instant (they live on the Red Line, what does it matter to them if sea levels rise?)
And if the Elders, likely some of the original 20 allied monarchs, had similar views 800 years ago as they do now, then it probably wasn't hard to conclude how they would use Uranus when they got their hands on it. And that could be the reason why Noah was built. Those of the Great Kingdom, a highly advanced civilization, knew the ramifications of using Uranus and thus were preparing for the inevitability of a world with little land. As Doflamingo mentioned, just 5 more meters of rising sea level would swallow up most urban spaces, so it would only take at least 5 more times of using Uranus to sink the majority of land globally (if each use causes sea levels to rise 1 meter). The World Govt then erased records of the Ancient Weapons to make sure no one else could threaten them with the other two, but also to hide the fact they already had one in their possession. And as a counter, the shipwrights of Water 7 passed down Pluton’s blueprints in case the World Govt got hold of that weapon too, which I had brought up in one of my posts.
I feel like with every chapter I'm reforming and rerouting theories lmao. Let's see how this holds up in two weeks 😂
#once again i hope this all makes sense in the mornign ahaha#i have half a mind that the great kingdom had some oracle or soothsayer lmao#like how did they know the 'dawn of the world' would happen 800 yrs after the void century war#one piece 1114#one piece#one piece spoilers#vegapunk#five elders#one piece imu#egghead spoilers

anyone know if bookbinding glue works on canvas? im thinking i want to add a shield to my halloween costume next year and am trying to figure out how to attach the front
#not silm#not art#halloween#first attempt w cardboard hot glue and canvas worked fairly well but the back is kind of lumpy from the glue and the corners arent great#so im thinking of doing painted canvas on book board with binding glue to adhere it#so itll be nice and sturdy#not sure how i would attach the straps though#unfortunately im too busy to do much in the way of costume upgrades rn but for next year i have a few things in mind#i definitely want to do a cloak- i saw this nice quilted fabric at joanns that could work as an insulating/lining layer to give it weight#i really want to do fake fur trim for the Fancy Himring Cloak but ill have to find something im not allergic to#idk how to do cloak clasps but the actual sewing part should be reasonably simple since its mostly one piece#just have to attach the outer layer and the lining layer and hem the thing#for the helmet im trying to find larger brads that might work to add a rotating visor#idk how to get it to stay shut though. will probably have to adjust the angle so it doesnt keep getting stuck on my nose#and so i can actually wear glasses with it and not fall down every single set of stairs like last time i wore it#anyone know if there are like. sewing patterns but for 14th century helmets?#armor wise i might actually go with the slipper top for pauldrons#would probably be decently padded#gambeson means i need to learn how to sew shirts#so maybe thatll be a few years down the line#for the shield i have one custom heraldry and one feanorian heraldry. maybe ill make two shields idk#the cuirass is going to be harder - maybe alternate a few layers of cardboard and quilted fabric? would that get too thick tho#ive tested cardboard + heavy waffle blanket gambeson and that works pretty well so maybe just go with that#maybe a cheap bookboard layer for the top?#idk how well you can paint book board though. will have to run some experiments

super fun to see all the people who have been saying for years that they can’t take a stand against ongoing genocide in palestine because their morals just won’t allow them to accept hamas’ retaliatory violence cheering on ukraine and laughing at putin. can’t imagine what the difference between these two situations is that would make people act this way
#for the record i think ukraine should do whatever they have to#and putin should shut up and lie in the bed he made#would be great if fewer civilians died on either side but i can’t stop a war with my mind so#but uhhhh y’all got me fucked up if you genuinely think this is somehow different from palestine#actually no sorry i’m wrong#it IS different#palestine has suffered under almost a century of ongoing displacement and genocide#so if anything they have more justification to fight back#but when brown people do it it’s terrorism right#i see you 😒

Canary
It was forty years ago that the miners stood their ground To say "enough's enough" earning pennies to the pound And they held the line against the riot shields and the cops For the sake of what they needed, for what their living cost
It was dirty work but honest, or so the slogans said But the truth is all they needed was to earn their daily bread And they stood shoulder to shoulder, for all the world to see And I'm too young to know that kind of solidarity.
And I wonder after all this time If it makes it worse to know The canary in the coal mine Was when the coal mines closed
Now the cops wear body armour and they've opened up the shop They kettled kids in 2010 and now they lock them up And the armoured cars in '84 that got my mum afraid Are peanuts to the kit they bring out for the arms fairs and parades
They'll tell you Just Stop Oil and BLM are thugs Just like they did the pitsmen who were trying to keep their jobs And just like then they'll try a short, sharp shock And when it doesn't work they'll try an awful bloody lot
And I know it didn't start then But I can't quite shake the thought That the canary in the coal mine Was when the miners fought
And of course it wasn't perfect and they didn't bloody win The state that washed the lines away is the state we're living in But we should have seen it coming that it wouldn't end with strikes It was blackleg miners yesterday, today it's every fight.
We need it more than ever now, that strength of '84 To stand shoulder to shoulder for the hope of something more But we let it slip out past us in the spring of '85 And we're losing ground with every year, till protest can't survive
And I know it isn't hopeless I know the lines can hold But the canary in the coal mine Is still and dead and cold
And I wonder after all this time If there's any way to go The canary was the coal mine And the coal mines are all closed
#song#lyrics#day 5#because i haven't been to bed yet so in my mind it's still thursday#poetry#this is bad and i fully recognise and own that#but the point of this blog is to post half-finished and unpolished and generally not-great art as well as the good stuff so fuck it#i'm cringe but i'm free#and currently very depressed and angry politically#but. you know. nothing new there.#ukpol#one day i should learn to sing or play an instrument or do literally anything musical so i can see if my lyrics actually work as songs#i feel like probably no#anyway this is not a well-edited or coherent political thought don't give it too much weight#i'm just perpetually big mad about the consistent backsliding on human rights and workers' rights over the past half-century#and there's something deeply unsettling to me about how the police response in 84-85 would NOT be that abnormally brutal by today's standar#which does not mean it wasn't appalling! it does mean it's still appalling now.#THAT'S my coherent political thought basically#anyway fuck cops join a union have a great night

the reaction to pecco/casey comparison post made by motogp acc on insta is kinda funny bc so many ppl are like “how dare you compare pecco to casey when pecco has the best bike on the grid and casey rode that garbage ducati” . but what about casey’s 2007 title run guys and how in some ppl’s eyes it wasn’t that legit or something bc of the bike advantage. like obviously comparisons between eras are often pretty pointless and devolve into pointless arguments and circle jerking for your fave guy but…..
lol oh man. here is the post for context
world's most boring discourse generator. the most predictable replies imaginable. did you know that. casey stoner. was very good... and had a bike that was tough to ride? did you know that. did you know the aliens were all very talented? did you know that casey's stats are very impressive? wow. you're telling me now for the first time
when I first saw the tweet, I did immediately go. *sigh* why are you setting pecco up like this. it's obviously interaction bait and, well, it does work every time. the phrasing "has equalled or outscored most of" casey's achievements at ducati is a bit unnecessary but like... god. who cares!! the only place stats like this belong is in spreadsheets proper hardworking fans made themselves to compare random shit for their personal amusement. bring back real fandom
and yeah, listen, I don't even really have the energy to engage with the merits of comparing the two sets of stats... it was a different time. you can say that casey had on average a less dominant bike than pecco did, which would be true - and he only had the clear outright fastest bike in one of his ducati seasons. you can say the level of competition was higher or lower back then, depending on whatever agenda you're pursuing. you can make arguments about when it was easier to rack up wins, given only around six bikes back then were even capable of winning races - something which is only kinda becoming true again now with the superiority of the gp24. you can point to the ducati back then being a considerably harder bike to ride. you can point to pecco's more impressive internal competition, you can point to casey's era having some undeniably pretty decent riders in the mix. you can do all of that. and it's a complete and utter waste of time. the main point of it is to have another bout of wanking about how much worse today's riders are, which, I cannot stress this enough, who cares!! literally. why does it matter. quality of viewing experience isn't directly linked to some imaginary talent-o'-metre, that's just not how sport works. everyone knows casey is one of the biggest talents this sport has ever seen! it is perhaps the single least controversial take in the whole sport. nobody's erasing casey's achievements. thank you to the random instagram user for securing casey stoner's legacy by bashing pecco. we've solved the crisis, guys, wrap it up
anyway, look. pecco's a two time premier class champion. nobody will die if he's mentioned in the same name as casey. people used to try and discredit casey's achievements... eventually the consensus morphed to acknowledge that he was obviously extremely good. once pecco's retired, the same thing will presumably happen to him. nostalgia comes for us all
#all sports interaction bait is. bad.#*hugs knees and rocks back and forth* idc who the goat is idc idc idc idc you will never make me care who the goat is shut upppppp#it is kinda cute how similar their numbers are mind u#who cares which one of them is better. let's discuss to what extent their neuroses match up#'he was an amazing rider whether you agree or not' - valentino rossi in 2013#//#brr brr#batsplat responds#i just never really get the 'well back in the day the level was higher' stuff because... real talk. does it matter#it'd be a problem if you currently had one guy who was just on a different planet to everyone else. but you don't#also the two best eras for racing this century happened when that was the case so honestly even that bit might be negotiable#but as long as it's competitive... like. who cares...? who gives a shit about how objectively 'talented' these guys are#and you can say the racing isn't great. which yes. agreed!! but mate do I have news for you about 2007#admittedly the highs racing-wise were higher in 2007 but the lows were. well#the amount of revisionism you see with this stuff is crazy like the way people talk you'd think the gp7 was a donkey#god if the aliens hadn't averaged a crazy feud rate i'd hate them so much. worst type of sports fandom is wanking to the ueber talented#casey may be my number one girl but i might be the only person on the planet who is a fan of him in the objectively correct way idk#also not to be mean but a lot of the most annoying people defo haven't actually watched many of casey's races lol#current tag#heretic tag

When you have a very strong one-sided grudge against a specific videogame franchise both your brothers are big fans of because it won't stop copying everything from different folklores and cultures and mythologies and history and stories of specific places
#Genshin. genshin when i catch#SUMERU WHEN I FUCKING CATCH YOU#i forgave the deal with Al-Heithem but now i slowly learns that over half the world building and lore of that place is directly copy pasted#told my brother the bit of stpry of Umroyaar.#and he immediately went ' uhhh appi. you're gonnq hate this but..'#guess what? oh yeah. the infamous Zambeel was also copied. great. that isn't even folklore . Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love ❤️
It’s so wild to think about that less than a year ago I only had six posted fics to choose from and now I have thirty-seven. So this was a hard choice… but in no particular order, here are my tentative top five!
Midnight Marauders - My longest fic, clocking in at more than 17k! It’s for The Great Ace Attorney, and chronicles how a young Herlock Sholmes met, befriended, and eventually moved in with a certain traumatized doctor, with a mixture of humor, drama, and warm-hearted pathos. I hadn’t read A Study in Scarlet when I started writing this, so the meeting is wholly original! (Perhaps Iris took some creative liberties.)
The Musgrave Ritual Sacrifice - My second-longest fic at more than 14k! It considers how the events of canon Sherlock Holmes story “The Adventure of the Musgrave Ritual” might have played out in the eldritch horror universe of Neil Gaiman’s “A Study in Emerald”. Follow the brilliant detective, his partner, and their quiet, fond romance through a world of terror, mystery, and doubt.
i’ve studied how to properly love - Did you ever watch Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century and think to yourself, “Jesus Christ, the deeper implications of this children’s cartoon are absolutely horrific”? Then this fic is for you! It manifests as a journal written not by Watson, but by his robot imitation, as he worries over the newly-resurrected Holmes (who has convinced himself the robot Watson is the real man he loved), the self-destructive, guilt-ridden Beth Lestrade, and his own feelings, sentience, and sense of self. One of my favorite things I’ve ever written, actually.
A Proper Celebration - A sequel to an adorable Jeeves-Holmes crossover ficlet by Loremaiden, this is a short little oneshot about Bertie getting published for the first time, and fellow author and lifelong supporter Watson coming from Sussex along with Holmes to congratulate him. By far the fluffiest entry on this list. (And I’m a bit proud of managing a decent Bertie Wooster POV voice that people seemed to like!)
To Taste Death Valiantly - I love the Raffles stories by E. W. Hornung. I also love the 1971 cult film They Might Be Giants, an odd romantic comedy about a man who thinks he’s Sherlock Holmes and the doctor named Mildred Watson who is assigned to look after him. So I thought to myself: what if there was a Raffles version of the same story - but this time they were both girls?? Thus, this is the tale of Sarah “Bunny” Mathers, failed writer and suicidal housewife, and how a chance meeting with a beautiful, delusional burglar gives her a new reason to live. Probably the nichest entry on this list, but I had a lot of fun writing it.
#red responses#the great ace attorney#a study in emerald#sherlock holmes in the 22nd century#jeeves and wooster#acd holmes#crime and cricket#they might be giants#sherlock holmes#it’s hard to pick favorites because I generally like all my writing lmao#but these are the ones that immediately came to mind#and even though all of them are Holmes adjacent somehow I tried to make sure I didn’t duplicate fandoms#so yeah! I hope you have as much fun reading these as I did writing them
