everyone has experienced some kind of obscure media that changed their brain chemistry as a child. for me it was the club penguin fanfiction where the main character self insert OC was sentenced to death by electric chair

i guess it's safe to say that I'm one of your old readers in this fandom. 😅 I've been a reader since you drop Push and Pull out on that holiday night.
I read most of your fics too. there's only one or two fic that I haven't read in the past year because life is a bit hectic now.
this is not a subtle request btw, but I'm curious if you have a 'verse focused about coming-out or realizing one's sexual orientation. I don't exactly remember every detail but, iirc, most of your fics' characters have implied sexuality which are lesbians.
It will be cool to know how you guys write about the experiences of coming out from your time period. ( I don't mean to make you feel so old 😭 but I know you two are in your 30s and are wiser and more experienced than we are (early 20s) ) I remember reading a post that it was really a different social scene compared to now.
maybe I'm also curious how you two became friends, then roommates *cough* *coughhhhh* and then wives because tbh I'm surrounded by hetero couples irl that reading about you two fascinates me.
I'm sorry for this ramble. feel free to ignore it too if it's borderline invasive. and sorry if you'll see this on a Monday morning
first off, thank you dear reader for being with us for so long! time surely flies when you're having fun, because wdym push & pull is approaching its 3rd anniversary??? creating for this fandom has been such a joint delight for the both of us, and we're just happy to share the journey with friends like you :) take your time re the new fics, esp if they're wips! we're working on them relatively slower, because life has also been hella hectic hereabouts.
onto your second query: i think this question is very interesting, actually! to address it head on, for this particular fandom i don't think i've written a 'verse where the specific challenge for any of the characters is coming to terms with their sexuality. i quite like living in this fantasy world where people are simply as-is-where-is lesbians haha. for example in our childhood best friends to lovers stories, when someone realizes their attraction, the realization is not so much about falling in love with another woman, but about falling in love with this specific person.
this way, it's the characters' shared context and history that makes their dynamic compelling, instead of the much more global milieu of lgbt relationships existing alongside all these issues and history, etc. which i also think are interesting stories to tell! but for purposes of this fandom in particular, which i think exists in a sociopolitical context that is beyond my expertise--i leave those stories to better-positioned storytellers :) in the true spirit of creating in this era, i do not want to get anything so egregiously wrong it will detract from the reader's experience.
but seriously, i have been obsessed about writing coming out/ coming of age stories for the longest time, mostly for my original work, which are set locally with local OCs. they were all i wrote about back in the day, so i guess for fanfic i figured i could instead try all the other tropes that weren't so close to real life, where coming out can be fraught and complicated. it's for the same reason that i don't write compulsory heterosexuality (comphet) or i avoid writing men as third parties in general... i've already spent a significant chunk of my writing life writing /that/ story, or at least that’s how it felt like.
but you make a good point! i'd love to try revisiting that coming out/coming of age trope and give it some aged-up flavor. let's see about that :)
on a personal note, many times when i look at today's digital landscape, I often go, thank god [this or that] did not exist just yet back in the day [or at least not in this manner] when i was figuring my shit out, because oh boy. the clout i could have chased and cancellations i could have booked haha.
suffice it to say i'm happy the digital footprints of past egregious mistakes are now buried with the deaths of old platforms. we were very lucky to have lived and loved and lost in an age where the internet could still afford some measure of forgetting.
(i know there's probably no going back to that kind of landscape, but i hope it's not too late for us to be a little kinder to each other, and definitely more forgiving of ~youth and elderly~, given how fast information cycles around these days and how wide the age range of users concurrently using the same digital spaces right now can be. it's NUTS.)
that said, c would like to clarify she is still in her twenties! hahaha. i confirm this. i also confirm that you're right to say i (k) am already out of my twenties haha.
we actually became friends through fandom! we met on tumblr lmao because that's where you met other wlw back in the day (idk if that's still where people are, istg i would not survive the current dating landscape either!) so i would not be exaggerating when i say fandom brought us together, and we're still cycling through fandoms together, having been to various ones in the past handful of years. that said we look forward to more fandoms to add to our list lol.
thanks for this ask - it's actually the PERFECT thing to see on a monday morning, in fact. hope your week goes well!

"why do you have 20+ solo issues of the 2004 new avengers run if you're such a clint barton(hawkeye)/bucky barnes(winter soldier) fan?"
THANKS FOR ASKING
technically I only start when Clint comes in as ronin which I think is 2006? Bucky comes in around 2008 tho iirc and they TECHNICALLY meet for the first time in Captain America 2004 #37 (38?) but they interact much more in the avengers than in captain America which is why i have so many more of it
in this series clint isnt hawkeye and bucky isn't the winter soldier YOU'RE RIGHT but imo it's my favorite because they co-captain the avengers and it's shenanigans and fun!!! plus everyone literally piles into buckys apartment and lives there for like a good CHUNK of the series!!! it's literally tower fic but it's canon, do you see how that can make a dude lose his mind and scramble to collect all of them?
clint and bucky both have ridiculous amounts of character development despite it being a team run, and unfortunately at the end its dropped to shoe-horn steve back as captain america but i will forever be a fan bc of the potential there of both the characters
their dynamic as the left and right hand of the deceased steve rogers is unfailingly interesting and how they learn to cope together despite their differences and motivations??? delicious
anyways read 2008-2012 comics winterhawk

i was originally gonna ramble in the tags but that’s too many tags so here i am
tldr: i’m fucking upset about overwatch 2
overwatch, conceptually, is an incredible game. the world is complex and is built upon with every character, every character is complex and has their own aspirations and detriments, there’s diversity that was seldom seen in games that came out in 2016 (at least games i played)
the world added completely new concepts that fit into the world. tracer’s chrono-accelerator, sym and lifeweaver’s hard light, sigma’s hyperspheres, lucio’s sonic tech, echo as a whole - none of these things actively exist but given the time period of the game (2070s) they made futuristic tech but didn’t make it seem like it was too far-fetched. they also have people like reinhardt and even mauga, using “old fashioned” weapons like a hammer and miniguns respectively!
the story being told is amazing. the new coming to recreate the old and the old either returning to help, cleaning up their messes, or stopping the new. the struggle between human and machine is nothing new but there’s so many sides to it, especially given characters like zenyatta and ramattra. and it’s not even the omnic crisis either, you have things to deal with like talon and vishkar and lumerico, and all that’s going up against them is a small force of heroes shunned by the world. there are so many layers and digging deep there’s no right or wrong faction, it’s all shades of gray - it’s fantastic.
and then overwatch 2 and corporate fucking greed happened.
with the introduction of “dlc heroes,” heroes you have to buy or unlock to play, casual players basically cease to exist in the overwatch 2 setting. iirc it’s 45 levels on the base battle pass to unlock a hero? i used to be on a competitive overwatch team for my college and you know how far on the base battle pass i got in one season? level 25. and that was from a player who went and practiced.
pve. i think that’s all i need to say about that.
from what i’ve seen the skin prices in the shop are ridiculous. especially in this year’s winter event, where a good chunk of the skins are just recoiled but “oh you have to pay $20 for it” or some bullshit. it also contributes to the loss of casual players - casual players aren’t gonna spend that much money just for cosmetics! even die-hard players might not! i’m not saying loot boxes were the best thing ever, but the state of overwatch 2 when it comes to money and corporate greed makes me sick.
blizzard (the higher ups, NOT THE PEOPLE WHO DEVELOP AND WORK ON THE GAME AND SPEND THEIR HARD WORK MAKING THIS GAME FORUS) took a game with, in my opinion, incredible potential and flushed it down the fucking toilet. i loved overwatch when i was younger. i was excited to see what the game would bring. i waited so eagerly for overwatch 2, as did many others, for the promise of more story and more things to do and a fuller, more fleshed out game. instead we got a ruined pay-to-win nightmare.
thank you for coming to my tedtalk
sometimes i just think about Overwatch and just get sad

I'm not very good at mmos but I love final fantasy, do you have any tips or advice? Your character is cute!
i don't actually know much about a good chunk of the game- i'm only at early heavensward context (the second expansion) so take my advice with a tiny pinch of salt.
having said that, sure, i can try to give advice! also please note that ffxiv is my first final fantasy game, but i'm experienced with mmos, so it's like... the opposite outlook.
if you look up literally anything about ffxiv, it'll be veterans saying that the current base game (a realm reborn) is slow and largely boring. i disagree for a number of reasons, but... it certainly does drag on for awhile. as i said, i don't know how this compares to other games in the franchise, but this one is a slowburn- well worth the payoff, but still slow as hell.
a single character can play all of the classes! this means, for example, rigel (my oc-turned-player-character) can be a black mage, white mage, warrior, dark knight, ninja... basically, alts (mmo-speak for alternate characters, basically any character you create and play outside of your "main") are effectively useless, but still fun to do if you don't mind a grind.
for the sake of all that is holy, when you unlock a job quest, drop everything and do it. these almost always give new abilities that become an essential part of your toolkit, and when they don't, they're leading up to one. i don't care if you're about to do a main story quest and think you can pass by without it, just do it and save yourself the trouble later.
you get your first mount at level 20, the grand company chocobo. however, due to the stupid amount of exp early quests give you/depending on if you're in a favored server or not, you'll likely be far above that when you finally get your bird. rigel was around 27 when he got bird-riding rights. said rights are tied to the main story quests, as is everything, so make sure to do those too.
red mage is really really fun i highly recommend it
at early levels the 2.5 second gcd (global cooldown, a timer where you can't use any abilities for a period of time) will seem agonizing. it gets better. by level 50 as a black mage i felt like it was too short.
i don't know how to navigate square enix's terrible site but be warned it is certainly something that needs mental preparation before attempting. buying this game is a nightmare.
so don't! the free trial goes up to level 60 and includes the entirety of the first and second expansions (first is actually the base game but that's a whole other can of worms) and lasts indefinitely. you can be a free trial player for years and never stop. just be warned that once you buy the game you can't return to free-trial status so once ur sins are committed, they're committed for good.
love yourself. don't play a healer class. or do, if you're into masochism.
housing is a fucking NIGHTMARE i haven't touched it with a ten foot pole
you can use FATES (open-world multiplayer events, basically) to grind extra classes in a pinch. it's not much, but you can do it.
you know that starting mount i mentioned? the grand company chocobo? you can nickname it. and dress it up. and change its colors. and eventually summon it to fight alongside you as a bird pet/companion/best friend and legitimately why would you use any other mount
seriously rigel's bird is named luhmel and i cherish him SO much i spent all my gil on outfits for him birb my BELOVED
i'd honestly recommend ignoring the gold/normal sidequests after the first few levels- they usually don't offer much, and don't give much back. it's only worth doing the blue "plus" quests (which always unlock something for you/your character) and the main story quests (which. are main story, lol. they're marked with a fire symbol around the edge of the icon)
oh hey whatcha know your job quests are blue plus quests maybe that means something
if you want to take Aesthetic Screenshots™ there's a thing called group pose (aka gpose) that you can use to loop an emote and modify lighting and everything to make some really nice pictures. i haven't used it much because i unironically discovered it two hours ago but i sure will use it in the future
once/if you hit levels 50/60/70, you should start hoarding poetics/tombestones! these can be used to buy fresh new gear that not only looks stylish but also will legitimately last you for half of the next expansion. i'm not joking. these are absolutely worth the investment.
if you play lalafell you WILL be pat on the head. it's normal. let it happen.
y'shtola best girl
new players are called sprouts, and are given a little sprout icon beside their name to represent that! this actually stays for a while- 168 total hours played and completion of stormblood (3rd expansion), iirc. i'm still a sprout. rigel's a little sprout boy.
once you unlock the waking sands, i highly recommend going into the side room and talking to all the npcs there! they have different/new dialogue every time the main story quests tell you to return there, and getting to know them all... well, let's just say that it'll make some parts hit harder, y'know? it pays off.
i haven't personally done them but i've heard the hildibrad sidequests are really funny i recommend those
there's a gambling cactus to gamble your life away and the parkour minigame infuriates me beyond reasonable definition
the community as a whole is super nice, and way better at giving advice on the spot than i am! for an anime game where i can play my depressed edgy angsty angel boy as a walking disaster gay catboy, it's really wholesome. not for everyone, but definitely a good time if it is your kinda thing.
okay but seriously do your class/job quests

Why did you not want to play the LGPE games? I have no opinion since I don't even know what LGPE is, but my curiosity is piqued
LGPE is the acronym commonly given to the Let’s Go games, Let’s Go: Pikachu and Let’s Go: Eevee. As for why I refused to buy them and don’t want to play them . . . that’s a bit of a story. I will keep this as concise as I can.
So. It all starts with the current head of Game Freak, Masuda Junichi.
Masuda has worked on the Pokémon games since the very beginning. In fact, he was one of the founders of Game Freak. For the first two gens his primary role was composer, but starting with Gen III he began to direct the games as well, and now he’s one of the top directors at Game Freak and responsible for many of the directions the Pokémon games have taken in recent years. And while there have been some good things to come out of the past decade, there have also been things that haven’t been so great (to put it lightly), and most of them have been Masuda’s doing.
For instance, the first big warning signs came with the release of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire in Gen VI. Don’t get me wrong, those were great games. I loved them. However, the Battle Frontier—a feature that premiered in Emerald—wasn’t included, much to the shock, confusion, and consternation of fans. When asked about this, Masuda said that he chose not to include it because kids only really like mobile games nowadays, so he didn’t think they’d have the attention span necessary for something like the Battle Frontier. Now, anyone who knows a child knows that’s absolute nonsense, but Masuda believed it and, as a result, the Battle Frontier was not included in the Gen III remakes.
Now, you could say that was just one bad decision, and I would agree. But Masuda’s bad decisions didn’t stop there. Gen VII as a whole has ended up being my least favorite gen of all the Pokémon games because there is not a single main series game in that gen that I can say I truly enjoy and would ever want to play again. Even Gen IV has HeartGold and SoulSilver, and Gen VI has the aforementioned Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, but Gen VII? Story aside (because I don’t think he actually wrote the story, though I could be wrong on that) the gameplay was atrocious, absolutely catering to Masuda’s beliefs that children don’t want challenges anymore and will give up very easily if presented with one. This is especially noticeable in the remakes, where the Battle Tree—the only challenge in the original Sun and Moon games—was reworked to be far, far easier than it was originally, thus making it boring, too. But as bad as the Alola games were, they were not the worst that Gen VII had to offer.
Enter the Let’s Go games.
Let’s Go: Pikachu and Let’s Go: Eevee were the first Pokémon games developed for the Nintendo Switch. They were “remakes” of Yellow (they had enough noticeable changes in the story to not be direct remakes), and if that was the only disappointing thing about them, I probably would have gotten them. After all, I had purchased every single core Pokémon title up until that point, and despite what so many wanted to claim, the Let’s Go titles were core titles. Masuda said it himself when the games were announced. But unfortunately, being yet another set of Kanto remakes was not the worst they had to offer.
You see, the Let’s Go games were made to bring the Pokémon Go gameplay into the core titles. This meant that there would be no battling against wild pokémon to capture them. You would need to shove candies down their throats in order to raise them. EV training was cut out. There was no breeding, so IV breeding was out as well. Only pokémon originally obtainable in the Kanto games would be available, even post-game, something no other game had done before (but which definitely foreshadowed the Dex cuts to come in Gen VIII). To cap it all off, it would be impossible to turn off motion controls and necessary to use them, so people with mobility issues would be unable to play—i.e., Game Freak made the game inaccessible to those with disabilities.
Now, a good chunk of these things made the game extremely unappealing to me already, and in fact have stopped me ever seeking out a used copy. I hate the candy system in Go, I hate having so many features removed, I hate having to rely on RNG to catch pokémon. I mean, there’s always an element of RNG, but you can tilt the RNG in your favor with battling in most of the games, and you can’t do that in Let’s Go. It’s like an entire game’s worth of the Safari Zone (which iirc was also cut in Let’s Go), and I don’t have the time nor the patience for that nonsense. So although the Let’s Go games had some features that appealed to me (following pokémon, riding pokémon), on the whole they were just really unappealing, and that was even before we got into the character changes that were really distasteful to me.
But the thing that I could not let rest and could not forgive—and the thing that caused me to urge everyone to not buy the Let’s Go games, to the point where I lost a friendship because he didn’t like that I criticized them on Facebook so much—was the fact that, on top of saying that the Let’s Go games were to be considered core titles, Masuda said that if they sold well, they would determine the next 20 years of the franchise. What this meant was that, if the Let’s Go games did well, the features implemented in the Let’s Go games—for example, not battling in wild encounters, not having EV training, etc—would be removed in future titles, and instead future games would play like Let’s Go plays. And that’s just something I can’t abide by. If they want to make quirky Kanto remakes like this, fine, but I don’t want brand new games going that route. It’s the exact opposite of what I wanted. So I did the only thing I could: I refused to give my money to Game Freak (which would show them I liked these changes), and urged everyone else to do the same, to buy used if they had to buy at all.
Well . . . pretty much no one listened. As expected, Let’s Go made bank, and I felt that was the end.
I don’t quite feel that way anymore. For the most part, Sword and Shield were unaffected. I’m not sure if this was due to production times not giving Game Freak enough time to implement Let’s Go’s features or not, but nonetheless, Sword and Shield still had wild battles, EV training, IV breeding, etc, so for the most part they were unaffected. There are EXP candies and raids (both similar to Go), but they’re bonuses, not something necessary to raise your pokémon. The only thing that seems consistent with Let’s Go was the Dex Cut (which, funnily enough, was another Masuda decision, casually slipped in by him during the Treehouse demo shortly after everyone was excited about the announcement at E3), but I strongly suspect that’s more to do with Game Freak not having more than a year to develop each game rather than the popularity of Let’s Go.
Regardless, the TL;DR is: I refused to buy Let’s Go (new, at least) because I didn’t want to tell Game Freak that I wanted future games to play like Let’s Go, and I still won’t play it now because so much of it is unappealing to me that, even when I consider getting a used copy, I remember the aspects I don’t like (e.g. no wild battles, no EV training, character and story changes), grimace, and go play something else instead. No hate to anyone who likes them, there are some features in that I think would be fun, but they’re just really not for me.

Former Marshall's employee chiming in:
Marshall's/TJ Maxx alwaaays has OPI nail polish for like 4-5 bucks iirc, and they frequently get Essie polishes too that are cheaper than other stores.
They also have Kara Beauty eyeshadow palettes near constantly and they're great with plenty of colours and low prices too.
There's also tons of jewelry you can get for under $10 that you can enchant or utilize for colour magic, or both!
Their candle section is divine, and you can find so many amazing scents in there. I specifically recommend DW Home, since they're well-scented, burn nicely, and they're well-priced.
The home sections (and HomeGoods ofc) have amazing decor and in recent years will have chunks of crystals like rose quartz or selenite towers and really pretty agate bookends sometimes too.
They also sometimes have those little glass boxes that you can use to store your crystals.
The notebook sections are great, and you can grab many a grimoire here. They also have fantastic planners in the beginning of the year
Okay I'm about to teach y'all about the sales and such.
Because Marshalls and TJ Maxx are discount stores, they don't have regular sales throughout the year and they also don't have Black Friday deals. They're open on Black Friday, but they don't have lower prices or anything like that.
In my state at least (WV), they have a tax-free weekend before school starts where people can buy a bunch of school clothes completely tax-free. Other items are included in this, but I can't remember what exactly. Call your local store and ask them if they have a tax-free weekend!
ALSO about the pricetags: a red tag means something has been marked down. If it stays on the shelves/racks without being sold for a few weeks, they mark it down again. You can usually watch big appliances get marked down a couple times before they sell. This is a risky game to play because someone else might snatch up whatever it is that you're watching.
HOWEVER a YELLOW tag means that it's the lowest possible price, it will not get marked down more than that.
The BEST time to shop at these stores is the period right after Christmas and a little bit after new years (I think specifically December 25-Jan 5) because TONS of stuff will get yellow-tagged in order to make room for new stock. So basically, the whole damn store turns into the clearance section when they do this.
And here's some more insider info: employees get a 10% off discount that applies at every location. So even though I was employed by Marshall's, I still used my discount at TJ Maxx and HomeGoods. AND a few times a year, they have a 20% off weekend for employees. So if you were wondering about what perks you get working there, there ya go.
Also they will frequently discount stuff on the spot while you're buying it if you ask and have a valid reason. Like if the packaging of a product is really beat up/torn and maybe even broken (and yes, the product inside is still good), and you ask for it to be discounted, they'll most likely do it for you while you're checking out. Don't be afraid to ask because the worst they can do is say no!
I completely hijacked OP's post, I'm sorry! I just get really passionate about good deals 😭
So, you just realized you're a witch...
Well here's a guide to some things you might find helpful.
If it's something tangible, chances are you might already own some of these things, if not please don't stress about getting them. For some items I will include stores that you can find them as well as price points using the dollar symbol.
Candles
These can be in the form of chime candles, pillar, taper, glass, votive, tea light, etc.
You can get them in various colors but if you are trying to save money you can get white candles. And add your intention and herbs (or just your intention) to achieve your desired outcome.
They can be found at:
The Dollar Tree ($)- Best for votive, pillar, taper, tea light, jar, floating, and glass candles. They can often be found in multiple colors and scents.
Michael's craft store ($-$$) - Best for tall/large pillar and taper candles.
JoAnn Craft store ($-$$)- Best for the same candles as Michael's craft store.
Metaphysical shops ($-$$) - Chime candles and speciality candles such as glass candles with writing on them (exp: love, Orisha, justice candles) and figure candles.
Stores that sell scented candles ($$) - Examples of stores like this are Bath & Body Works and Yankee Candles. These are best for looking for candles that have scents that correspond with your particular spell. For instance, if you're doing a peace spell you may want to look for a candle that smells of lavender or a candle that puts you in a peaceful state of mind regardless of the scent name or ingredients.
Incense
Incense are excellent for air magick and you can often find them rather cheaply in most stores. I personally try to find them as toxin free as possible but you purchase what incense makes the most sense for you. Just as with candle scents, look for incense that either corresponds with your spell by the herb they are supposed to smell like or by feeling.
The Dollar Tree ($) - The ones I've been too have mainly been good for chakra incense.
Etsy ($) - There are multiple sellers with a lot of different scents and quite a few with free shipping!
Magick.com ($)
Amazon ($)
Metaphysical store ($)
Herbs
If you decide that you want to work with herbs you can usually get away with the ones you already have. However, I would caution against burning herbs that aren't organic but of course that is your decision to make. Some places to get herbs are:
The Dollar Tree (they don't have organic but they have a decent selection)
Your local grocery store
Target
Walmart
Metaphysical store
Note: If you can't find the herb you may want to consider using the essential oil instead. Only use a drip of the essential oil. You can also get a tea bag with the herb you need, rip it open, and use that.
Nail Polish
Color magick is the main thing here, but I have come across some scented nail polishes as well. Either way, you can choose a color and/or scent that corresponds to your spell. Here are some affordable brands (by that I mean the polishes from their main collection are not over $10.)
Wet n' Wild
Esssie
LA Colors
Revlon
Sally Hansen
L'Oreal
CoverGirl
L.A. Girl
Cosmetics
I know a lot of people typically include nail polish in this group but I tend to save this category for things such as lipstick, eyeshadow, eyeliner, and blush. Once again, the main purpose of this category is color magick but it can also be used for glamour magick. Some brands are:
elf cosmetics ($)
Wet n' Wild ($)
Revlon ($) - Mainly their lipsticks
Rimmel ($) - Lipstick and Blush
Nyx ($)
Revolution Beauty ($)
Essence Cosmetics ($)
Divination
If you are interested in divination there are so many types that you can easily find one that you connect with. Some forms of divination are:
Bibliomancy
Pyromancy
Tarot, oracle, and playing cards
Osteomancy
Water scrying
Crystal scrying
Mirror scrying
Automatic Writing
Tasseomancy
Pendulums
Types of Magick/Witches
It is not necessarily important that you pick a particular type of magick but I think some witches take being able to study multiple types of magick at once for granted. Not everyone is able to maintain focus while looking at magick as a whole, that's why I think separating magick and witches into types can be helpful. This is by no means a complete list but it's a start.
Celestial/cosmic magick
Elemental magick
Green witch
Hedge witch
Water magick
Earth magick
Air magick
Fire magick
Draconic witch
Eclectic witch
Lunar magick
Solar magick
Fairy magick
Kitchen magick
Sea witch
Candle magick
Ceremonial magick
This is by no means a comprehensive list and I will likely add more things to it over time or create more lists similar to this one. But I hope this was at least somewhat helpful!

Uncommon questions for Flytterbab: 10, 20, 30, 31
10. What lie do they most frequently remember telling? Does it haunt them?
It wasn’t a lie at the time, but Flytter frequently thinks of how they told just One Friend that they were leaving to study history under recommendation of their family-friend-magic-tutor, but that they’d be back… and now their skin is mottled and their flesh aches and they are always or never hungry, and they consider the name and place they left behind and– well. There is no going back from ghoulification, so really, is there any going back at all? (Not anymore, not to them.)
20. If they were asked to explain the difference between romantic and platonic or familial love, how would they do so?
Romantic love is beautiful, in the way that a hymn to Andraste is beautiful, or a song of Ghilan'nain is beautiful, or a veneration to Paragons long past. Romantic love could start as a spark or a simmering flame, but true Love should keep you warm at night, even the nights that are hard. To so call someone your beloved should mean that even if you treasure many people in  your life, this person is different, they are yours, you are theirs, that the two (or more!) of you should form some sort of safe haven. Flytter’s ideals of romantic love are a bit more… idealistic, bright, abstract, because they haven’t felt it in a long, long time.
Platonic love can be more everyday. Platonic love is the people who smile when they see you, a bond that improves your life and theirs for its existence. If romance creates the beauty in the stars in the sky, platonic love is the ground that keeps you from falling, up or down, and getting lost where you should not be. Too many people don’t appreciate that they have solid earth to walk on, when it would be so easy to fall, or drown, and in some places even be lost in the Fade. … Some people take a running start off and wait to hit the ground, but that doesn’t mean they can’t try to appreciate what they had while they fall.
Familial love, while not universal or obligatory, is… is you. It’s your heart. It is the seed of the tree of life that fell to the earth and let you take form. Not everyone has it, it’s true, but so many of them still find ways to thrive, or they find themselves roots other ways and thrive nonetheless. And when it burns– when you lose it– you burn, too. As far as Flytter is concerned who they were before they lost their family died in that fire too, and now they pursue their goals single-mindedly, an ash wraith forced into existence by the flames.
30. Who do they most regret meeting?
That guy who told them that such-and-such at-home natural remedy was totally a valid substitute for the expensive ointments and lotions that moderate their chronic pain bc that guy was a fucking liar and their skin burned for hours.
Shockingly, not Tamaris, in that AU :P Tamaris…. basically crushed a good like 80% of their idealism, and at least 50-75% of their eager fannishness, and probably a good chunk of their optimism, but. Just because Tamaris sucked the majority of the wide-eyed hope and wistful daydreaming and eager admiration out of Flytter’s view of the Wardens doesn’t mean they regret it– how can they regret it? They got… maybe not the clearest, but certainly one of the most honest views of the past that anybody may ever have, and they have a preserved memory of the Fifth Blight by the time Tamaris leaves– Flytter will pull every wisp of a string at their disposal to find a way to preserve that, privately, as an utterly unique piece of history. How could they regret being the only person with such an opportunity to have such a glimpse of the past? Who would regret that? What would be the point of dwelling on regret? What would it gain them?
After all, studying history isn’t about what your heroes and idols would have thought of you (you who have chosen to become what most of them hated and vowed to destroy), but rather recording as faithful and true an archive of them and their history that you can, so :))))
31. Who are they the most glad to have met?
Not shockingly, probably still not Tamaris.
That would probably go to Ilaea– a fellow scholar who lives in a far more sensible location rather far away, but whom Flytter writes regularly, and they exchange gifts via post– and/or Varrel, who is a local-ish sentient genlock with an interest in dragons whom Flytter can physically visit from time to time and have company who enjoys theirs and makes them feel less like an outsider among the world. iirc Ilaea also lowkey keeps tabs on them and is the one to have quietly told at least some of their old friends that they’re still alive and well (for some definition of well) without completely betraying their privacy.

LP D&D: The Gang Experiences Some Personal Growth
Hey all. Here’s the first sessions’ worth of notes, for your amusement. Originally, it was in a vaguely orderly bulleted list, but I guess tumblr doesn’t like the way google docs formats shit like that, and it came out all messy. Hopefully this isn’t too messy to follow or anything. The notes aren’t perfect, and I’ve included some comments to explain minor things from previous sessions that weren’t in the plot synopsis. They’re marked with “//,” because bold and underlined text is ugly and I italicize stuff a lot already. Fuck you, programming is cool.
Anyway, content is under the break. Enjoy~
Rolen and Escrima clear up some details with Rocky about planescape and vampires.
Coy asks Rocky to hang on to the giant diamond, Rocky shows us his sick-ass vault. //Coy was able to extort a diamond the size of your head out of the child dragon we ran into back at Candlekeep.
The vault has everything of value in the multiverse
Narcovi reeeeally wants us to go to Sigil. There’s a portal in an abandoned warehouse. //For a couple sessions, Narcovi had been telepathically pestering Escrima from beyond the plane.
Coy looks around for the other dragonborn guy. He decides against being a cool guy on the chandelier.
Escrima wants to whisper something in Coy’s ears. Coy reminds him that he doesn’t have ears.
“But then how do you hear??”
“I DON’T KNOW!”
JP reminds the players to get their shit off the boat before it leaves. //I talk about over-the-table stuff a lot in the notes. JP is the name of the DM, “the players” refers to the people playing the game, and not the characters, and I listed the player names next to the characters they play in the intro post.
Greg wants to wait behind for Lucas. //This session and the one where Lucas goes to meet Gandalf were supposed to happen simultaneously in the game world.
Akim thinks the displacer cub is the greatest thing since sliced bread. //Coy bought a displacer beast cub a couple sessions prior because ???
Sometimes he fails his roll to pet because he has disadvantage.
Escrima wants to take Akim to Sigil, presumably to kill off any competition for the role of “party child”
Coy struggles with his role as a teen parent. He gives Akim a bell to ring if he needs help
“You’re a cow now!” - Escrima
Escrima is amazed that fish don’t have ears, and apparently tongues.
Coy pushes Akim off the boa- I-I-I mean, onto the docks, obvs lol
Rolen feeds Lupe the Wyvern
He sees some guys enter the brothel. They’re probably Graham’s family, but we don’t know that, that’d be metagaming!
Construction is well underway on the roof
Lupe learns “Strike!” The dragon drumstick is consumed.
Coy milks the Wyvern.
COY DON’T PISS ON THE PORTAL
Coy is indignant about the implication. //I forget exactly what happened, but I think Coy had to take a leak on the portal we returned from Sigil through after our first journey there or something. I wasn’t there for most of that session, so whatever.
PVP occurs
Escrima gets a message from mother that makes him unbearably sad.
He uses Coy as a shoulder to cry on, but Coy pushes him away
Escrima latches on to Connie
Rolen casts “sanctuary,” requiring Escrima make a WIS saving throw.
NAT 20 HOLY SHIT
He now thinks Connie is Mother for a minute
Coy and Rolen bounce out
Much mumbling and sobbing occurs
“HAPPY MOTHERS’ DAY” //IIRC, this session took place on Mothers’ Day 2016
Once he’s finished, Connie cleans both of them
Coy and Rolen saw a glowing flash from outside the warehouse due to this.
The portal wants everyone to think of bunnies
Escrima thinks of an eldritch monster he believes is a rabbit. The portal thinks about it, but lets him through.
Coy fails to use the portal at first, causing a car outside Kim’s house to honk its horn. Then he goes through like normal.
Escrima still thinks Akim would like it in Sigil. A passing devil makes Coy think otherwise.
Coy has trouble adjusting to the geometry/civilians/architecture/LOP of Sigil. What a berk!
Escrima lets Narcovi know that Coy suffers from kleptomania. Narcovi is not pleased.
Connie enters the portal. Narcovi thinks her dress is hot.
The gang is out by the hall of speakers in the clerk’s ward.
Narcovi tells us we’re her last hope.
Crazy Eyes has evaded capture since the party engaged him.
She introduces her captive, Brektol. He’s here for a plea bargain.
He’s a member of the Keepers of the Source, the organization that spawned Crazy Eyes.
Crazy Eyes is hiding out in Ecstasy.
There’s a portal in the mess hall, near where the “””brothel””” was. //During the first Sigil trip, Rolen and Escrima went to a brothel. Being Sigil, it was not a brothel, but a place where people mind-melded for fun.
The portal will only last for about 16 hours.
Narcovi warns the party that nothing gets done in Ecstasy.
Rolen tries to twist Narcovi’s arm to get a more stable portal home.
...But she’s not having it.
Rolen strokes her ego with a crit.
She gives in.
Narcovi was accompanied by that one guy who the party saved from the muggers
Coy’s existential crisis continues
Rolen and Escrima attempt to demonstrate that gravity still works
But this doesn’t help.
The gang suggests that he carry Connie around as an anchor. Connie begrudgingly agrees.
Escrima tickles Coy to try and make him drop Connie because he’s a dick
But nothing happened
Coy realizes Connie is a tiefling. Who knew! //Connie can cast the spell “disguise self” at will, and basically always makes herself look like a human to avoid prejudice. ‘Course, being Sigil, nobody cares about that, so she dropped it.
He establishes dominance by reminding her that his tail is bigger.
The gang enters the portal to Ecstasy.
Everything is disturbingly serene.
They’re met by a halfling that’s probably stoned.
#personalgrowth //During his dialogue, he said the phrase “personal growth about 10 times
Ecstasy is on the outer plane. There’s a pretty good view of the spire & sigil behind the halfling.
The village is fairly small. Lots of plinths and fields.
Hey bruh, have you heard the good news about personal growth?
PROFILING START
Escrima asks the halfling about the murders in a roundabout way, and gets a roundabout answer.
The guy at the inn probably knows something
Coy walks through a portal to Elysium, derailing JP
Elysium is not!Mount Olympus.
He has all the dosh again.
Coy doesn’t wanna leave because Elysium.
#personalgrowth
Coy goes “looking for trouble,” as he is want to do.
Elysium is a pretty nice place, though, so there isn’t much trouble to be had
He calls over a passing CR 35 angel to chat
The angel throws his ass out at a speed of about C/11
Coy has an epiphany of life and his place in the universe.
Coy gains inspiration!
More PVP!
Coy rejoins the party.
Escrima mimics the voice JP used for the angel.
Coy attempts to clock him good
But he misses
The gang enters the inn, the impulsive dabus
It’s a gay bar, of course.
One of the patrons has some cool armor with runes on it.
Coy thinks the tiefling bartender is the hottest man alive
Barkeep has had too much personal growth for that, or so his ring finger shows.
The gang asks barkeep about the murders
The victims:
Baldod, cleric of Moradin and his merry band.
Probably on some kinda pilgrimage
Female Fraternity of order member
A Sigilese human man
The bodies had 7, 8, and 9 lacerations, probably the cause of death.
Apparently, there’s a festival involving plinths and #personalgrowth coming up
Barkeep gives us room keys
Ecstasy wine is pretty great
Bartender talks about the festival and the preparations thereof
A bard named Trolen used to bring a lot of business.
He went off with some crackpot Lady Of Pain worshipper, came back and built a temple to the LOP
And now he’s spreading the gospel to the nearby towns.
Cool armor guy interjects
Trolan is in Xaos (pronounced Chaos), preaching to the people in Sigil
There’s a portal there in the Hive “district” in Sigil
The gang investigates the rooms of the victims
There’s partially used spell components all over
Crazy eyes is bad at magic, apparently.
There’s a pamphlet advertising the church of Trolan
There’s some blood on it, crossing out Trolan’s face
Crazy Eyes really hates Trolan’s guts
Trolan was in an asylum with Crazy Eyes. they escaped at the same time
The party visits Trolan’s LOP temple
Marble statues of Trolan and LOP adorn the main hall.
A priest is giving a sermon on how great Trolan and the LOP are
Crazy eyes is in the building
The party tries to approach him carefully
Rolen’s double nat 20 saves us
Crazy eyes is hovering over a cleric
He starts yelling at her to worship him instead of the LOP
MURDER
Battle versus Sougad Lawshredder, Believer of the Source!
Crazy Eyes calls the party out, attacks the cleric
She survives, barely.
Connie uses sending to contact Narcovi
Coy polymorphs into a bat and charges. //Coy has a magic item called the cloak of the bat. it lets the user fly or turn into a bat, but only in dim light
Coy realizes the building is on fire!
The upper floors are all on fire
Cleric manages to get some distance from Crazy Eyes
Rolen uses the ebony fly to move to the cleric //Another magic item. It’s basically a flying mount that shrinks down to pocket-size when not in use
Sougad is rolling poorly today, and is unable to to kill the cleric
The ceiling is collapsing! Chunks of flaming debris fall on the combatants!
The cleric is crushed by the rubble, dead
Rolen tries to pin Sougad, but fails.
Sougad performs a ritual on the cleric.
He carves 10 cuts into her body.
Crushes some spell components.
Absorbs her soul.
Strikes a pose. //Crazy Eyes is basically a Jojo villain.
As Sougad flaunts his new arcane power, a giant boulder falls from the roof onto his head, crushing him.
The temple collapses into a pile of dust and debris.
The gang tries to talk to some of the surviving worshippers
Trolan wants his followers to go to his church in Sigil
Coy warns against this, saying something about being an avatar of a god or something, but his pleas lead to no avail.
Escrima realizes that the worshippers are under some kind of spell.
Apparently a bard spell.
Narcovi asks for the party to return to Sigil when Sougad is dead
He’s probably dead, but there’s no time to clear out the “cubic shitton” of rubble to confirm.
INTERMISSION
JP has some kind of french junk food that’s like a turkey nugget with cheese in it
Also potato wedges
Narcovi arrives on the scene, wondering about why the building is destroyed
#personalgrowth, obviously
Narcovi wants us to investigate the godsmen. They may have sprung Trolan and Sougad.
The gang returns to Sigil, having grown a lot personally.
Coy is terrified of the geometry still, hugging against constanza.
Minor PVP
Rolen lies about someone flipping Sigil over at dawn
Coy is not amused
Spits a bit of acid at Rolen
Coy cringes as he didn’t actually mean to hit him
Shopping ensues
Escrima wants a tattoo real bad
The artist is a mind flayer, because Sigil
Coy considers something for a second and then decides not to.
Escrima wants an “I love mom” tattoo
In gradient
Comic sans
Tramp stamp
In celestial
Coy’s sense of design philosophy is crushed.
Coy wants to go to a “Body Sculptor”
A tiefling named Amasha runs a true polymorph shop.
HEY GRAHAM
-1500 gp from the party funds.
Coy is MTF, and has a bit (read: metric tonne) of work done.
She can probably use the broom now.
Armor doesn’t fit great anymore, and thus she is left completely naked.
She borrows a towel from Amasha
#personalgrowth4real
Escrima wants his pinky toes to be ~10x larger
...but everyone sandbags him.
Escrima takes a moment to show off his new tattoo to some passers-by
Some are intrigued, and touch his butt. Some even pay him for showing it.
The Dabuses are still malfunctioning, and the city is in disrepair
The gang returns to the Amarak embassy to check on US
Inexplicably, the building seems to have been restored.
US are very busy rats
...But they still have time for their old friends
US’s room is a goddamn rat metropolis
Coy is a bit disturbed by US
Everyone else greets them like an old friend
They’re preparing a massive amount of goods for export to the material plane
US is very good with both numbers and words
They like Escrima’s tattoo, think everyone else should get one too.
Narcovi enters the embassy, is confused in a general sense
It’ll be about a week before the rubble gets excavated.
She thinks we’re cool guys.
The gang enters a trinket shop looking for anti-vampire weapons
Coy finds a garlic necklace, but is told it won’t do anything.
Coy tries to be intimidating, but she’s barely tall enough to peek over the counter
Rolen buys a shady trinket that probably doesn’t work
“We’ll be back if it doesn’t work.”
Coy leaves half as much money as she wanted, and bolts
There’s 15 goddamn minutes before the portal closes, and all Coy can think about is clothes //”AS SHE IS CLUTCHING A TOWEL, RUNNING THROUGH THE STREETS” -Max, justifying wasting time
Shopkeeper's name is Gilmore //”copyright Matthew Mercer I steal things shamelessly” -JP
While comparing her options and showing them to Rolen she drops her towel accidently and shows Rolen ‘everything’. //futa
Rolen doesn’t really respond, other than saying ‘I dunno they um, both look ok’
Coy asks if he thinks the Trinity style would be a bit tight.
Rolen again says “Um, yeah sure”
Coy gets a flowing gown because--
GUYS THERE ISN’T TIME FOR THIS
The gang tries to find a tacky tourist shop, but comes up dry //I want a shirt that says “I a🚪 Sigil” both in and out of character
The portal home requires the party to think of the inverse of a bunny
Coy thinks about wolves
Connie thinks about crocodiles
Escrima can’t think of anything
Rolen thinks “tibbar” while holding Escrima, and they both get through.
Everyone gets a level
#personalgrowth

1- What’s the last wip you opened? That would probably be HFHL, my huuuge ongoing longfic that's part of too large a universe to post all of it.
2- Do you name your wip before, during, or after writing? Depends, usually oneshots get named after, though sometimes I think of something awesome while writing. Nothing ever gets named before I have at least a good chunk down though.
3- Longest word count on an abandon wip I refuse to admit that anything I've ever written is abandoned.
4- Last sentence written? "I can," he said softly before leaving the office in silence, leaving Erin Strauss to gather what little peace she could find for herself.
5- Last sentence on an angst wip Black’s eyes were fixed on the pizzas, his hand once again pressing the towel into his side. Reid opened his mouth to say something about possible infections, but decided against it. I'll give you two sentences, just for some clarity.
6- Last sentence on a fluff wip I don't really do fluff, so I'll give you crack instead:
Rossi chuckled again as he opened the door to the bullpen, “The more you know…!”
7- When are you most likely to kill a character? I've only killed off two, in one oneshot. Because I decided I was going to. I generally don't kill people off?
8- Name one wip you’ve revived from death I'mma go with a oneshot called 'The first cut is the deepest'.
9- A wip you regret (you can vague this) One that I think I won't be able to write/do justice because it centers around a way of life I cannot begin to imagine.
10- A wip 12 year old you wrote Eh... I had an original story going about Rosa the Robin? She had one brother, iirc, and they helped the other animals out whenever they needed something. I don't remember the details and unfortunately that notebook has been lost to the ages.
11- 1st person or 3rd person? Ooof! This is a hard one, either has their use! Third person is easier in a way, but man do I love first. I love both. Can I just have both, please?
12- Favourite wip? Like, this has to be anything connected to my longfic (which has several side pieces. But I'm also kind of in love with this House/Wilson smut I'm writing?
13- A wip that’s self indulgent? (you can vague this) ALL OF THEM.
14- Post the last sentence on a wip open in your tabs right now Which one? I have like... 8 stories open rn, and that's just because I decluttered earlier. Okay, fine. I'll give you the House/Wilson I was talking about earlier.
“You left so soon!” Wilson steeled his nerves and kept walking. “I’d have given you a ride…!” House called after him, but Wilson pretended he didn’t hear him, didn’t see the second motorcycle helmet House awkwardly carried with him.
15- Describe a wip of yours in 20 words Damn, this is hard. Okay. It's gonna sound so bad lol
Wilson wakes up in House's bed and spends all day trying to forget about what happened last night, only to fail.
16- Post a plot twist to a wip of your choice, but don’t say what wip it’s in He won't end up with the one everyone is going to be rooting for, after cumulative bad experiences. Instead he'll find true love with the one who comes running when he's been kicked down.
17- Beta or self-proofer? Bit of both, really. Some stuff gets eyed by writer friends of mine. But I've stopped torturing beta's with my update schedule for my longfic. Oneshots almost always get looked at tho.
18- Have you ever co-written a wip with someone before? Doing that for the first time ever as we speak!
19- Do you still use the words ‘lemon’ or ‘lime’? I don't, actually. Though I can't tell you when that changed. I think smut just sounds better, it rolls off the tongue easier too.
20- Are you more likely to write fanfiction or do you prefer original stories? Fanfic. All my original stories turn to dust once I start typing them up.
21- What is a word you use too much? Suddenly.
23- Do you make your own wip covers? Nope.
24- What platform do you post your work on, given the chance you finish the work? AO3 & FFN
25- Oneshots or multi-chapter? Bit of both, but the majority are probaby oneshots because I don't have the spoons to juggle multiple longfics and any chaptered fic seems to always turn into a longfic.
26- Google docs, word doc, or neither? Gdocs
27- Hardest wip you’ve written? I think I'm still writing it. I dunno why, but the words just aren't flowing
28- When was the last time you used pen and paper to write down a wip? A week or two ago. It was 4 am and I didn't feel like booting up my computer or grabbing my phone.
29- Music or no music? Usually none. If I do have music on it's either instrumental or in a language I do not understand lest I start typing the song lyrics.
30- Have you ever done a self insert? In a way, yes. But they're not obvious.
31- Are you doing this instead of actually working on your wip? Shhhh
32- Without counting, how many wips do you think you have? At least 20. That I remember.
33- Write a 1 paragraph wip and post it My footsteps sound hollow on the old pavers, my step a little more unsteady than I care to admit. After all, there are no alcoholics working at such a prestigious place as this psychiatric hospital. Therefore, I am not a drunk. I am merely a connoisseur of fine whiskey, thank-you-very-much, and I know perfectly well when it's time to put my glass down and head home. Where my beautiful wife no longer waits for me, and the crib we purchased sits bare. And no, I don't want to talk about it. My footsteps falter as the shadows around me darken. I am unsure whether my environment is actually darkening or if it's really just my thoughts. It doesn't matter anymore. Nothing matters anymore. Sitting down on the cold pavers I take another swig of my whiskey. It's crappy and cheap but I'm at that point where I hardly notice anymore. My head rolls to the side, the weight of memories too painful to bear dragging it down, pulling it towards the street. My body falls sideways, crashing against the hard pavers. I barely feel it. The pavers are wet. I hadn't noticed that before. But I don't care. Darkness settles in around me, stiffling my memories in a thick blanket. Soon, I know. Soon I won't have to feel anymore. I almost smile. But there is no consiousness here.
34- How many prompts are in your inbox right now? None. No one's sent me any.
35- Are you more likely to make grammatical errors or spelling errors? Spelling. Though my grammar isn't anywhere near perfect either.
36- Have you ever coloured your docs for your wips? I color-code the folders.
37- Name a series you’ve abandoned writing I have not abandoned anything! Though, Three Clans Unite and Dear Diary both haven't been touched in ages lol.
38- A wip you did for a friend A pack of only two. If I ever manage to finish it I think I need to throw a party.
39- When you write numbers, do you say ‘3’ or ‘three’? Three. It looks weird and awkward to me otherwise. I pretty much always spell it out.
40- What should you be writing right now that you’re excited about? Fledgling Memories of You Fool's Gold My DoMAYstic prompts HFHL Take your pick, really.
Ask Game for Writing-Wip hoarders
I’m made this when I should be writing
1- What’s the last wip you opened?
2- Do you name your wip before, during, or after writing?
3- Longest word count on an abandon wip
