When the newly appointed Azem is afraid of people and hates work and would much rather sit among all his flower creations and ignore his responsibilities and keeps clinging desperately to your thighs to beg for mercy and despite how annoying it is you're still not quite as heartless as he laments you to be when physically dragging him to meet the rest of the Convocation.

thinking about lottie desperately saying to nat “just because you don’t understand something doesn’t make it evil” when she’s been struggling to understand herself and her illness/abilities with and without her medication her entire life and being told by her parents for years that it’s shameful and a bad thing and… anyway I’m gonna go cry about lottie matthews again

Shauna being so sad that Callie is growing up because innately, she knows that it’s something she never really did despite physically aging. Shauna trying and thoroughly failing to reach out to her anyway, asking if she wants to go to the mall and just spend some time together, but the gesture falls flat because these normal mother-daughter things have historically been disingenuous to their relationship.
Callie wanting so desperately for her mother to be honest and open with her, wanting connection and resenting the fact that all she has ever gotten is Shauna’s compartmentalized self, which strained their relationship even before she was convinced that her parents were covering up something about Adam.
Shauna having such a horrifying, traumatic relationship with motherhood from the start, most assuredly carrying baggage from her first pregnancy into giving birth to and raising Callie.
And Callie???? For all of this, actually not being as fucked up as she could have been at the start of the series. We see in the first few episodes that her biggest problem is that she’s a bratty teenager, but she cares for her parents. She loves them.
Shauna accidentally raising Jackie in her own daughter. Because Jackie, too, was a bratty teenager, and that’s not a bad thing in a normal, civilized context. But because she couldn’t transcend that understanding in the wilderness, because she couldn’t let high school go, she died for her stagnation. She died and became the ghost, the sin, the greatest what if who haunts Shauna every single day.
Callie knowing that Jackie is that ghost who has always taken up precious oxygen in her family home. She can’t compete with her memory; she feels the utter guilt of having accidentally putting on that dead’s uniform and hurt her mom just one iota more.
Shauna never, ever admitting to that hurt, even though her daughter is one of the only people to have ever verbally identified that she is in fact hurting. She thinks she is a bad mother. And as of late, locked in a psychological battle of wills with her own daughter, she absolutely has been. She’s lied to her. She’s shut her out. She’s laid out the terms of their mutually assured destruction. She is actively traumatizing her kid.
Callie still stepping in to help her mom with Kevyn nonetheless. Because that’s love, fucked up though it is.
But Shauna can’t see it yet, how much she is loved by her daughter. She has always mistrusted the appearance of vulnerability in others and assumed that even the people she cares about most are prepared to greet her with a knife.
