Prompt: After becoming a spectral, Max is watching on of his old favorite movies with Zoey and notices something very distracting… There is a background character in the movie that he is super duper sure wasn’t there the last dozen times he’s watched this movie. After getting Zoey’s opinion on this mystery extra, his fears were confirmed. That person, was in-fact, a ghost.
Bonus: Mr. Spender shares a list of unwatchable shows/movies a couple of very dedicated spectrals (part of The Consortium’s Research Division) are compiling and trying their darnest to edit/create a filter to make possible to watch these shows/movies again.

Thoughts on junepetershirke
Canon. Canon to me. It's canon.
I wish. I wish. That Shrike had ended up with June and Peter instead of Davy. Or that at the very least she had left him for June and Peter. Would it have ended in tragedy anyway? Yeah of course, the plot demands that June dies and Shrike becomes a werewolf. Would it have made things a bit harder in the meantime? Hard to say. Do I wish it had happened anyway? ABSOLUTELY. It would have meant Cody would have been Max and Zoey's brother, but whatever, that's a small price to pay, and it's even kind of sweet. I mean, I'd hope to GOD that Shrike would have custody in that particular divorce. Because wow. What a mess.
Peter and his two badass headstrong wives. What's better than a relationship dynamic where the woman is undoubtedly cooler and more rough around the edges than her special guy? A relationship dynamic where that happens TWICE. If this ship were canon it would mean Peter would have such an obvious and specific type, and I think that's awesome.
But it's also pretty tragic. Peter loses both lovers in the end, one to a very mortal death and one to the suspended animation of monsterhood. Would the same fate have befallen Shrike, if she'd left Mayview with Peter and June? Could polyamory have truly saved her? Again, I don't know. But I love thinking about it. Also, there's no way June wasn't some flavor of queer. Same with Peter. Them being poly with Shrike involved doesn't strike me as out of character at all.

June had secrets. He’s not afraid to admit it, even if only to himself. She wasn’t just a freelancing scrap metal artist. That kind of thing doesn’t pull in as much money as it did for her. It shouldn’t, at least. But even if it was pulling in more money than it should have, it wasn’t pulling in enough for a family of four in the middle of the city. Peter had been busy working, too. He was more willing to let her secrets slide. Mostly. But June had just asked him to trust her. And despite his better judgment, or perhaps because of it, Peter did.
read here or on ao3!
June Puckett never made good on her promises.
Sorry, that—that makes it sound like it was intentional. Like it was cruel, purposeful, deceitful. The truth is more that something always got in the way. Taking care of the kids, or just being too tired, or the dreaded hydra that would rear its head called work.
Peter would always try to be… forgiving. About it. He loved her. He really, truly loved her. Still does, even. It’s just…
June had secrets. Mostly.
The nights she would leave without much explanation, then come back bandaged or tired or sometimes not for days… he’d asked, plenty of times, what she was doing. Where she was going. It was an argument that plagued Max’s first two years.
But June had just asked him to trust her. And despite his better judgment, or perhaps because of it, Peter did.
One night, lying in bed, running his fingers over the tattooed dragon scales on her hands that sometimes felt more scale than tattoo, Peter had asked her to tell him whatever she’d been up to that morning, when she’d had to run and left him to take Max and Zoey to daycare. She’d turned her face against the pillows, looking at him with eyes unreadable.
“I had to go fight a ghost,” she’d said, eyes crinkling in the corners, “that was terrorizing people in the park.”
Peter had chuckled, tapping his thumb against her wrist. She was not going to tell him. “How brave of you, then.”
For a moment, they’d just been quiet. Then, he’d said: “Promise me,” and he’d felt her every muscle tense.
“Pete,” she’d said, head rolling back against the pillows, eyes flicking up to the ceiling.
Peter guided her face back toward him. “If you have to promise me just one thing,” he’d said, “let it be this.”
Maybe she was feeling charitable. Maybe it was the look in his eyes, the uncharacteristically serious turn to his mouth. Whatever it was, June had looked at him, and just nodded, once—eyes widened, lips slightly parted in what he thought might be surprise.
“Promise you’ll tell me,” he’d said, eyes dropping to their entwined hands, “if whatever you do, whatever it is you don’t want to tell me about—tell me if it ever gets dangerous. If it ever gets dangerous for Max and Zoey.”
June had stared at him for a moment, before a sad smile curved across her face. “Okay,” she’d said, “I promise.”
It was the one she kept least of all.
She was a metalworker. The number of things she could be doing… Peter didn’t know if she was, what, making weapons? Melting down contraband? Whatever it was, it—it seemed dangerous, if she couldn’t talk about it, but she still would do it, even with her family waiting at home. So then, was it that bad? It couldn’t have been. June—June was not that kind of woman, or so he thought. Peter knew her.
Or… so he thought.
Then there had been the fire, and—and the worst day of his life. Then the worst year. Then the worst couple of years. He did everything he ever could, to keep these kids safe, to do everything for them, to push down the grief and keep moving forward. Moving had been a fresh start, after a few years, a way to distance themselves from the wound. To let it work on healing.
Now, though, it feels like Bayview is just picking at the scab.
Max is getting distant. From him and Zoey. It has only been a few days, sure, but Peter recognizes a lot of June in their son. And he’s been… melancholy, and moody, and it could just be chalked up to being the new kid in an unfamiliar place, but it doesn’t feel like it. Max is making friends so quickly it’s a little astonishing. He’s never been this, er… magnetic.
But within one week he’s gone out late at night (twice! Well, he supposes the first time he hadn’t actually gone out, as seen as the security camera on the door in the morning, but he’d met friends outside, one of which had been riding a horse?) and Peter is starting to think that second trip wasn’t actually a study session, because he got that same shifty little look in his eye that his mother used to. And then he’d broken his arm in gym class, of all things, during—during a game of dodgeball, apparently, which just doesn’t sound true, and…
Peter worries. Max is a bright kid. A funny kid, an independent one, taking after his mom in so many ways. But he doesn’t want… he doesn’t want Max to end up entirely like his mother.
June was the love of his life. She was also a deeply troubled woman, and Peter knows, he knows, if she had just… just shared whatever burden this was, he could have helped her. Couldn’t he? Maybe then, she wouldn’t have…
He doesn’t want to lose Max to whatever he lost June to.
The isolation. The… frightening struggle with what he’s pretty sure is… mental health? The late nights getting involved with something shady, something that can’t be legal—not that he thinks Max is becoming a, a delinquent! Anything is possible. But Max has always been a good kid, at his core, even if he… runs around in places he shouldn’t to do “sick tricks,” or starts fights at school (or at least participates in them? He’s still not clear on that one). It’s just… Max is like his mother in the way that he does not tell Peter anything.
He’s a little sick of people not telling him things.
But children are wont to do as they do, and he expects nothing less from a boy like Max. So he’ll don the silly, unaware dad persona he’s gotten so comfortable in, and he’ll let Max snipe and snark and hide things, because he hopes—he has to have hope—that when the chips are down?
Max will not be like his mother, and he will let Peter in.

That Ursula K Leguin post reminded me, I've actually had a question about your fantasy au for awhile but you were (understandably) not around to ask! Is Prince Max's mom still around as queen? Is she like a cool knight queen? Sorry if you went over this and I missed it.
Referenced AU | 2 | 3
Hi kassie!! I haven’t thought about my fantasy au in a while for obvious reasons but yeah I can go into this :) Forewarning, I’m a little rusty haha.
Maxes mom is dead. I make a conscious effort to not make this AU an easily translatable 1:1 to canon that requires no actual thought on behalf of the writer; but June Puckett being dead is so interwoven with the Max, Zoey, and Peter that we know that changing that would be like taking away core aspects of who they are as characters. June Puckett will always be dead.
She died around the same time as in canon, which I think was when Max was around 7? I COULD ask some serious questions like ‘if I rely on JP’s death, what would it mean if she Didn’t die and how would that change the characters we know and love’, as that’s always what FAU has been about: examining the pnat characters through dramatized roles. But after giving it some time and thought, June’s role always Has been Dead. (If someone has a different opinion on this and would like to challenge me about it please do, I would LOVE to hear your thoughts) So where do we go from there?
Dead queen. The country only starts to wobble after she passes, since Peter doesn’t know much about ruling, so if it was stable when she was alive she must be smart and knowledgeable enough to run a kingdom well. But how well is it, really, if kids like Johnny are still running around stealing for a living? So let’s develop june into something more complex and layered. A knight queen would be cool and maybe hint at her not taking her Queen duties seriously - but we’ve already established that Francisco’s family runs the nations military. Maybe her parents were stricter. Maybe she wasn’t allowed to do much of anything she wanted to. Maybe that’s why she fell so deeply in love with lower class Peter: he was free and unburdened and had the irresponsibility to be silly. Maybe she had never met anyone like that before. Maybe it was beautiful. (This would tie back into the central story’s romance question. June chose to marry for love, and she was happy. But look where it got her. Look where it put everyone around her.)
I haven’t really given much thought to June as she existed as a person as much as I have to June as she exists as consequences everyone else must now live with. June Puckett is the Rose Quartz of fantasy AU. Hell, maybe she did like to ride horses as a girl and pretend to be a knight. Maybe she was perfectly trained for her role as the Queen (not as a broodmaid for the King - FAU is a matriarchy. If anything it’s the other way around.): diplomatic, peaceful, experienced in logistics and agriculture and trade routes. A perfect young professional. But as a person? How much can you grow if you’ve lived in one place your entire life? She must have been horribly sheltered. Maybe lonely? Or maybe boisterous and loud, always sneaking out?
This has made me think about a lot of questions I hadn’t considered before. And I think I’d like to answer them by saying…. I don’t know! I think I’ll leave them open to interpretation. Anyone can speculate.
Because, again, June only exists as her consequences. Whoever she was before that doesn’t exist anymore, so we don’t get to know. We only see her as things have degraded in her absence. Since this story is a romance and she isn’t one of those three central characters, we don’t get to have that insight into her inner world. Only the anxiety from whether choosing the wrong person will doom one of the three to her mistakes.

Prompt: It's laundry day in the Puckett household. Peter has a whole ritual to "Prevent our left socks from being eaten by the dryer gods." Zoey & Max find it silly, but do it for their dad as per tradition.
BONUS: Turns out dad was onto something about there being a sock stealing dryer being. It can be a spirit or mythical monster of your choice.
Alternative: Their mom, June, was the one to start this laundry ritual tradition.
