HELP WDYM IM PROBABLY THE FIRST PERSON TO WRITE A FIC ABOUT ZOEY AND HER MOM!? WHAT
uh, anyways, it’s under the cut like usual
Summary: Zoey has a sad yet soft moment with her mom
Additional Tags:
Zoey hating on hospitals. Inspired by a PJO edit. Sick Character, Hannah is in fact dying. Emotional Hurt/Comfort, this was going to end on a much sadder note, But then I saw happy Zoey and I couldn’t. Semi graphic description of a hospital, Zoey really just goes off about how much she hates them. Zoey being worried for her mom. Hannah’s name is never mentioned btw hope that doesn’t get confusing. No Beta We Die Like Hannah. Angst and Feels
Zoey wasn’t sure what she hated most about hospitals. The smell was definitely a top contender, the way it burned at her nostrils as it scrubbed away at everything trying its hardest to cover up the smell of death and bodily fluids. It was like the hospital was trying to hide the fact from itself that for every person that went through its doors and got healed just as many came in and never left. Of course that was just one thing, there was also the noises, the coughing and beeping and crying like some sort of line up to enter into the underworld, then there were all the people that made Zoey feel claustrophobic, and then there was overly smiley doctors and nurses, how could anyone be smiling like that after hearing about a kid who got a wii remote stuck in his throat?
Honestly Zoey could’ve kept listing things but out of all the reasons why she hated hospitals she supposed the main reason was because that’s where her mom had been bedridden for the last
had it already been a year?
“Come on Zoey,” the black haired woman at Zoey’s side gave Zoey a small nudge towards the open door that led into the room Zoey hated most in the hospital.
The woman was one of Zoey’s mom’s friends, Lanelle, and while she was friendly enough Zoey had gotten tired of staying at her house with her weird pet gecko, Senior Raindrop.
The gecko wasn’t the problem, it was the fact that her mom was still in the hospital, she was just taking her anger out on the gecko.
Zoey took a cautious step towards the room as Lanelle gave her another soft nudge.
She could do this, no different than any other time, right?
After about a minute of standing there Lanelle gave her yet another nudge.
“Zoey, are you alright?” Lanelle asked sweetly.
No. No of course she wasn’t, her mother was dying and the doctors still hadn’t fixed it. They said they could!
But they didn’t even know what Zoey’s mom was sick with so it only made sense they didn’t know how to fix her mom. They were just trying to spare Zoey’s feelings, to make her feel better. Why did so many of these medical professionals seem to try to be feelings doctors as well?
Zoey would never say all that to Lanelle though. Lanelle cared for her of course, she never judged when the only thing Zoey could do was let out all her emotions out in whatever way her emotion fueled brain chose. It was more about the other people, the doctors, the nurses, the complete and utter strangers that were also in the building. She didn’t want them to see her break down.
She didn’t want her mother to see her cry. She had to try and keep it together. For her mom.
“Zoey?” Lanelle tried again.
Zoey shook herself, inhaled slowly, held it, and let the breath back out.
“I’m ready,” Zoey responded, ignoring how weak her voice sounded to her ears.
“Alrighty then, do you want me to come in with you or wait out here?”
It was an automatic response, same as all the other times, “Just outside the doorway,”
“As usual,” but Lanelle waited for Zoey to move into the room before taking her spot waiting patiently just outside.
The hospital room that Zoey’s mother had been staying in was brightly lit, with warm sunlight streaming in through the half opened blinds over the windows but the flowers on the bedside table had begun to wilt.
Zoey’s mom sat under the covers of the bedding, propped up slightly and still hooked up to the heart monitor as she seemed to be dozing off slightly.
“Mom!” Zoey called, rushing forward.
Her mom let out a snort as she snapped awake, “Zoe-“ her mom was quickly cut off by a harsh coughing fit that had Zoey picking up her pace to get over to her mom faster.
“Mom! Mom, are you ok?” Zoey asked nervously, looking up at her mom with soft eyes.
Her mom continued to cough violently into her clenched fist for a upsetting moment too long before it died off to a degree that allowed Zoey’s mom to respond.
“I’m alright my little melody,” Zoey’s mom got out, though her voice was hoarse.
Zoey frowned at her mom, and then looked away, “You’re just saying that to make me feel better,”
There was a pause.
“Zoey, dear, look at me please,”
Zoey winced, she had to be strong. She couldn’t let her mom know she was hurting, her mom had to focus on herself, not Zoey.
After a shaky inhale Zoey swiped at her face clearing it of any tears and turned back to her mom.
Her mom was quick to cup Zoey’s face in her hands. Her hands were so cold.
“Zoey,” tears had begun to form in her mom’s eyes, “My brave, beautiful, little melody I know you’re trying to be strong for me right now, but you don’t need to be. I know, I know you’re hurting so bad,”
Zoey’s lip trembled.
Whatever was left of the strong look on her mom’s face broke at that.
“Oh Zoey,” Her mom pulled her forward into a hug, wrapping her arms around Zoey and squeezing with whatever strength she had left. Zoey hugged her mom back but much more softly as she began to tear up.
Zoey was sure they could have hugged each other for next to an hour but eventually Zoey’s mom came down with another coughing fit and Zoey let go to give her mom room to breathe.
Zoey watched her mom with increasing concern until finally asking, “Should I go get you some water?” As she had no idea what else to do or say.
Her mom buried her head into the crook of her elbow and shook her head but that only ended up triggering more coughs.
After a number of deep wheezes and additional coughs her mom managed to get out, “No, no, I’m ok Zoey. I don’t
I don’t need any water. Tha-thank you though,”
Zoey could only nod.
Another cough.
Her mom then patted the mattress beside her, silently telling Zoey to sit beside her. Zoey obliged and slid up beside her mom who weakly wrapped an arm around her.
While it was weak her mom softly started to hum. It was the lullaby she always used to sing for Zoey. A warm, happy feeling started to swell in Zoey’s chest. She supposed that even if her mom did
did die Zoey would always have their song to hold close and remember her by.
A tears slid down Zoey’s face.
“Mom,” Zoey choked, “Save your energy.”
The humming went on for a short second, “I suppose you're right on that, I just want to sing for you again.”
Zoey sat up a little, “Mom, please be careful.”
A sigh, “Ok, but only because you want me too,”
Zoey suddenly felt guilty, “That’s not what I meant,”
Her mom reached up and ran her fingers through Zoey’s hair, “I know, I know. You’re just taking care of me.”
Zoey hummed back in agreement.
“You’re so strong Zoey, I’m sorry I haven’t been there,” her mom admitted softly before pressing a kiss to the top of Zoey’s head, “Please my little melody when I’m gone please don’t be afraid to show your feelings, I know you want to stay strong for me and that’s ok, but the storm of life is oh so treacherous. Showing your emotions is never a bad thing,”
A cough wracked through her mom but she went on, “You’ll meet people both good and
and bad that will try to break you but hold fast and don’t be afraid because I know that no matter what you are unbreakable.”
Her mom’s voice was very hoarse and barely above a whisper but Zoey caught every word as tears dripped down her face.
Zoey turned and buried her face into her mom’s side.
“I don’t want to lose you,”
Her mom patted her on the head, “And you won’t, I’ll always be with you, in here.” Zoey let go slightly and glanced up at her mom as she reached down a hand and touched above where Zoey’s heart would be.
Zoey couldn’t help the snort that came from her, “That’s so cliche,”
Her mom giggled, “It is, but it’s right.”
Zoey smiled up at her mom, “Yeah, maybe it is.”

Ok can i be completely honest right now? This fandom has a huge issue. A huge whitewashing issue.
Now before you say: "Oh but legos dont have races! Thats why theyre yellow!!" You dont only need skin color to imply a characters ethnic background. You can also do that with the characters other features like hair, eyes, lips or even stuff like their name. And thats exactly what dreamzzz does.
The most common characters i see whitewashed are Zoey and Logan. I absolutely NEVER see Zoey drawn black, even tho 1. She has twists (which some people draw them as just a side shave) and 2. Her last name is Okoro, indicating she could be igbo.
Tumblr media
As with Logan it goes a bit deeper than that. As the issue takes two forms: 1. When its him being drawn white and 2. When its him being drawn asian, but extremely pale.
First, him being drawn white is obviously an issue because he is canonically asian. His last name is Chan (a surname with chinese origin), he is voiced by Vincent Tong and he is designed to look visibly asian.
Tumblr media
(And before anyone says its eyeliner i found another character with the exact same eye print)
Tumblr media
People often draw him slightly tan with eurocentric features and call him asian. Who the fuck are you deceiving.
Now with the pale issue: this is also an issue i see around in the ninjago fandom. East asian characters liked by the fandom are drawn to appeal to the beauty standards while the ones hated by the fandom are drawn like actual east asian people. Altough Logan is the only east asian character in the show that we currently know of, this does apply to him. And him being pale wouldnt even make sense! He is a soccer and baseball player! That kid plays in the sun for hours!
And Logan isnt even the only asian character that constantly gets whitewashed. Take a look at fanart of Nova! If i didnt tell you, you probaly wouldnt even know shes south asian! In her insomniac club shorts its revealed her last name is Patel, an indian surname btw, yet i dont see ANYONE give a fuck cause i only see white Nova everywhere.
And yes! Mateo and Izzy are also victims of this aswell! Mateo's locs are never drawn right and i see people draw him like 1 shade darker than the others and call him black 😭. Izzie is white washed aswell and sometimes, only her and NOT MATEO?? HUH??? They are siblings 😭😭
Anyways, the moment the fandom actually learns how to depict the characters, we will finally be free.

Why yes I am procrastinating, under cut like always @fruity-legos
Summary:
Brain: hey so
we never see Cooper’s dad in the show and Beau/Night Hunter’s barely been around so don’t you think it’d be funny if he was also Cooper’s dad? Me: ok no, but they’d totally do that for a prank
Additional Tags:
Pye is only there for a few seconds. April Fools' Day, Pranking. Prankster Beau, headcanons. Cooper being silly. T for swearing and a quick suggestive mention. no beta we die like beau and cooper will after this. Family Shenanigans. Aunt Jenny is so done. Burritos used as projectiles, No one should ever prank Zoey and here’s why /lh. Crack.
Most of April first had come and gone and Zoey had yet to be pranked but she couldn’t shake the feeling someone was still planning something. So maybe when she returned home after her shift at Mrs. C’s to find her dad’s truck parked outside she was a little suspicious, especially since her dad and Aunt Jen were still on rockier terms.
Hopping off her vespa Zoey hurried inside and made a beeline for the kitchen.
“How do you suppose she’ll take the news?” Zoey stopped short as she heard her Aunt Jenny speak softly as if she was whispering.
“I don’t know,” her dad responded.
Take what news? Zoey wondered and without another thought she surged into the kitchen and headed over to the counter to place down her paper bag of leftover burritos Mrs. C had sent home with her.
“Hey Aunt Jenny, hey dad,” Zoey offhandedly greeted trying to act calm even though her heart was pounding at the thought that these two adults seemed to have some news they had yet to share with her. Were they even talking about her? They had to have been right? Why else would her dad and aunt be gossiping to each other about something?
“Oh, hey chum!” Her dad responded, offering her a polite smile.
Aunt Jen blinked in surprise at Zoey’s sudden arrival but she was quick to hide her shock and waved at Zoey, “Welcome back dearie.”
Zoey eyed her aunt and dad for a second as a wave of awkwardness settled over them. The two adults were sitting at the kitchen table, across from each other, and four cups of what looked like tea were set on the table in front of them. One cup for her aunt, the other for her dad, but why were there two others? One for herself maybe and one for
Pyewacket? No, cats didn’t drink tea.
Her dad coughed, disrupting the awkwardness. Her aunt hummed in return and picked up her cup to take a sip before setting it back down so she could reach across the table to punch her brother in the shoulder.
Her dad yelped and rubbed at his shoulder, “Ok, ok, I’ll tell her,”
Zoey narrowed her eyes, “Tell me what?”
Aunt Jen went back to sipping her tea which left her dad gapping for a few seconds to find the words, “So
Zoey, how would you feel about being an older sister?”
“Hu?”
All at once Zoey’s world seemed to come to a screeching halt and in an act of confusion she ended up knocking the paper bag off the counter where it dropped to the floor and spilled forth the burritos contained within.
“Oh dear,” her aunt muttered.
By the time Zoey had come back to her senses the five second rule had all but passed and Pyewacket had come out of his hiding spot to start poking at the burritos to see if they were edible or more of a play thing.
Zoey knelt down and shooed Pyewacket off. She then shoveled the burritos back in the bag. Once they were in she abruptly stood up and chucked the bag at her dad who barely reacted in time to catch it before it hit him in the face.
As her dad set the bag down, Zoey tried to restrain herself as she asked, “What do you mean older sister!?”
A million thoughts and questions swarmed around in her head so she almost missed it as her dad responded with, “So is it bad I brought him here?”
“What!? He’s here!? How old is he? Where did he come from?” Zoey stopped herself before she could overload her dad with questions but it didn’t stop her mind from spinning.
Her dad smiled sheepishly, “Oh, it’ll make sense in a sec,” he then tipped back in his chair, while holding the table with one hand, so he could glance around Zoey and at the pantry behind her.
“You can come out now,”
Zoey turned, half expecting a smaller version of her dad to come waltzing out but instead as the door swung open she took in one of the last people she ever would have suspected.
“C-Cooper!?”
The blond haired teen Zoey had slowly grown fond of winced as Zoey yelled out his name but other than that he seemed very calm for the current situation, in fact he even had a baggie of flaky dried fruit in one hand and was snacking on it.
“‘Sup Zoey,” Cooper said, stuffing a handful of dried cherries in his mouth.
Zoey stared at him, her confusion growing.
Cooper swallowed and forced a smile, “So siblings? That’s cool,”
“You have parents-“ Zoey couldn’t keep herself from blurting out.
“So about that,” Cooper started, chuckling slightly, “So you know how my dad is like
a total deadbeat and I barely see him?”
Zoey nodded.
“Ok so it turns out there’s a reason for that,” Cooper mentioned, tilting himself to the side so he could frown at Zoey’s, wait no, their dad.
Zoey turned slightly so she could see their dad too, who simply gave an amused half shrug and smile.
“Had a suspicion when I first saw him, emotionally distant white man and all, finally got the DNA test results back and surprise, we’re half siblings!” Cooper explained.
“Half? So
” Zoey trailed off, not able to finish her question.
Cooper tapped Zoey’s elbow and gestured towards the table, silently seeing if she needed to sit down as he continued to explain, “My mom and Beau, they had a threesome with your mom,”
Aunt Jen choked on her tea as Zoey slumped down into one of the chairs while Cooper stayed standing. Her dad hid a laugh behind his hand.
Cooper stuffed another handful of dried fruit into his mouth as her, their? dad started to snicker.
Oh god, she had a brother. Cooper was her brother! Did that mean his annoying asshole brothers were her half siblings too?
Zoey stared down in dismay at her empty tea cup, what the fuck.
Aunt Jen reached over and patted her on the shoulder, “Dearie
I feel like now would be a good time to remind you that my brother was quite the prankster as a child.”
Zoey looked up, “What?”
Aunt Jen nodded in her dad and Cooper’s direction and Zoey turned to see the both of them struggling to hold back laughter.
“Happy April Fool’s kiddo,” her dad got out around a number of chuckles.
Cooper finally caved too and bent over clutching his stomach in a fit of laughter.
“I told them not too,” Her aunt Jen muttered with a small snort as she herself behind her tea cup.
It took Zoey a second to find the words but eventually she did, “IT WAS A PRANK!?”
Her dad wheezed, “Once upon a time I was the prank master at my school, I’ve been waiting months for us to finally be comfortable enough with each other for me to be able to pull a big one on ya kiddo,”
A plan of revenge was already starting to form in Zoey’s mind.
“But seriously you got Cooper in on it? He can’t even lie,”
“I’ve been rehearsing this for months,” he admitted, smiling cheekily.
“But you still agreed to it?” Zoey asked in bewilderment, “I thought you hated my dad,”
Cooper chuckled, “I do, but I needed a gift for Izzie’s birthday so I agreed on the terms that your dad would voice act some lines for me as Macaque,”
“I still can’t believe you voice act for a kids cartoon,” Zoey heard her aunt mutter.
Her dad shrugged, “Just fits my personality I guess,”
Zoey shook her head, her mind finally starting to stop reeling which allowed an idea to fully form. She grabbed the bag of burritos and stood.
Her dad leaned back, “Kiddo what are you-“
Zoey opened the bag and turned towards the two, as she plunged her hand inside she blankly stated, “Start running,”
Cooper was already halfway to the front door by the time Zoey threw the first burrito.

I also finished Dreamzzz season 2 yesterday, and I can't believe we actually had kissing Legos.
THEY KISSED AT LEAST 3 TIMES IN THE EPISODE.
IN A LEGO SHOW.
Good for them though. Beau and Hannah are a power couple, even if Beau became the night hunter and ended fighting (and hunting) his own daughter and her friends around in the dreamworld. At least he admitted to being a deadbeat father himself 👌. I do wonder why he became evil... ish. If it was just the use of the sword, or some additional factors. Though I think it's implied that he wanted to do the right thing, but used the wrong methods and eventually ended up on the wrong side.
