Ok can i be completely honest right now? This fandom has a huge issue. A huge whitewashing issue.

Now before you say: "Oh but legos dont have races! Thats why theyre yellow!!" You dont only need skin color to imply a characters ethnic background. You can also do that with the characters other features like hair, eyes, lips or even stuff like their name. And thats exactly what dreamzzz does.

The most common characters i see whitewashed are Zoey and Logan. I absolutely NEVER see Zoey drawn black, even tho 1. She has twists (which some people draw them as just a side shave) and 2. Her last name is Okoro, indicating she could be igbo.

As with Logan it goes a bit deeper than that. As the issue takes two forms: 1. When its him being drawn white and 2. When its him being drawn asian, but extremely pale.

First, him being drawn white is obviously an issue because he is canonically asian. His last name is Chan (a surname with chinese origin), he is voiced by Vincent Tong and he is designed to look visibly asian.

(And before anyone says its eyeliner i found another character with the exact same eye print)

People often draw him slightly tan with eurocentric features and call him asian. Who the fuck are you deceiving.

Now with the pale issue: this is also an issue i see around in the ninjago fandom. East asian characters liked by the fandom are drawn to appeal to the beauty standards while the ones hated by the fandom are drawn like actual east asian people. Altough Logan is the only east asian character in the show that we currently know of, this does apply to him. And him being pale wouldnt even make sense! He is a soccer and baseball player! That kid plays in the sun for hours!

And Logan isnt even the only asian character that constantly gets whitewashed. Take a look at fanart of Nova! If i didnt tell you, you probaly wouldnt even know shes south asian! In her insomniac club shorts its revealed her last name is Patel, an indian surname btw, yet i dont see ANYONE give a fuck cause i only see white Nova everywhere.

And yes! Mateo and Izzy are also victims of this aswell! Mateo's locs are never drawn right and i see people draw him like 1 shade darker than the others and call him black 😭. Izzie is white washed aswell and sometimes, only her and NOT MATEO?? HUH??? They are siblings 😭😭

Anyways, the moment the fandom actually learns how to depict the characters, we will finally be free.

Wrong hairpiece even though lego literally has the right hairpiece. The hairpiece they have in the show exists irl but they have different hairpieces for their minifigs anyway. Lego wtf it's so much easier for you to give the minifigs the right hairpiece than it is for me to buy the right hairpiece and paint it the correct color >:(

Got inspired to draw her after I saw I post pointing out that she’s northern Indian, so I wanted to take a shot at giving her proper features (with a whole lot of advice from a friend who happens to be from that area of India on how to draw em)!

The karaoke is sooo real to me. I imagine they'd try to invite zoey too but theyd rather be caught dead than be caught singing k pop 😭 😭

Dallas gets into other fiber arts and crochets a small round sheep plushie for himself and hides it under his bed because he does not want to be found out as a kid who still sleeps with plushies. 🔥

For those who aren't side characters experts like me /j, the one with glasses is max, the shortest is Emil, in the middle there's nova and lastly the one looking maliciously who knows where is jayden

And lastly um nova still has a shit sleep schedule. She's just like me </3

Nova is so silly <333 I love her hair it’s soo yummyy (I’m not even joking her hair looks like raspberries and she’s so pretty) I haven’t got to the story where’s she’s relevant BUT I do think the whole insomniac thingy is interesting..

It has come to my attention that there are some characters in my Villain Mateo au I probably need to ramble about so: real quick post about vm Izzie, Nova, and Astrid

sequel to this post-

Izzie- I went over Izzie briefly in my other post but to sum it up: basically her and Mateo got separated during their parents divorce and so they didn’t get to grow up together. In fact Izzie grew up rather alone as she was bullied often for her interests and what not. Izzie did at least have one friend however in Nova but her and Nova grew apart as Nova found herself with other responsibilities thus she couldn’t spend as much time spending as much time with Izzie as before. It wasn’t until izzie began to reconnect with her brother’s old best friend that Izzie was able to be awakened to the dreaming world and reconnect with people/make new friends.

Nova- So what exactly were Nova’s “other responsibilities” that tore her away from Izzie? Well they were in fact the responsibilities that come with being a dream chaser. Being Mr. Oz’s favourite student she was quick to deduce what her favourite teacher was doing in his free time and managed to get herself involved with the Night Bureau and quickly got wrapped up in the war with the Nightmare King

Astrid- Astrid’s story is pretty close to canon, with her being Royce’s top student and what not, but after the Nightmare King attacked Castle Nocturnia and took it over Astrid found herself in charge of a rouge and surviving faction of the Night Bureau (that Nova is apart of) and with their help Astrid tries her best to hold off the Nightmare King and forces and keep as much of the Dream World safe as she can. If only Logan would stop getting in her way
