A piece of Breath of the Wild music I don't see people talk about a lot is the Corrupted Dragon theme.
(Listen with HEADPHONES babes)
If you don't know, this music plays as you climb a lonely, frozen mountain. It starts subtle and grows in volume and intensity as you near the peak. At the top is Naydra the blue dragon, its body covered in corrupting malice.
Tumblr media
The thing that isn't included in the soundtrack is the breathing. The deep, eerie, almost pained breathing that Naydra is doing. It's chilling. The entire ascent is chilling (literally). The music itself is a warped version of the beautiful Dragon theme, altering its melodies into something somber and downright spooky (as I was making this post I realized it reminds of the Shadow Temple theme from Ocarina of Time).
This music and moment is a personal favorite of mine from Breath of the Wild. As far as I remember, nothing in the game guides you towards seeking out Naydra specifically. You usually discover it by just exploring. Stumbling into this secret boss fight is one of my fondest memories of my first playthrough.

A list of Zelda songs I’m hyperfixating on, and why
The Great Sea (Phantom Hourglass verison)
- The part where it goes Ab - G minor - C minor SLAPS so hard, Istg sometimes I listen to this song only for those 5 seconds
-Idk I just love that part, it makes it different from the WW version - more nostalgic, in a way? It feels like… traveling. Being on an adventure far from home, and having fun yet missing the way things used to be
Dragon Roost Island (Wind Waker)
- A rhythmical masterpiece
- This song stands out for being both energetic, catchy, nostalgic, wistful, a little sad, and happy all at once
- Obsessed with part where it goes G minor - F - Bb . Maybe it’s because it finally breaks free from the G minor - F that we’ve been hearing up until this point
- I don’t have the musical vocabulary to explain why I love this one lmao. Rhythm is energetic and bouncy, flute/melody is soft and based on long, soaring notes. They complement each other so well
Hytopia (Tri Force Heroes)
- Embarrassingly enough I heard this one for the first time just last week
- I particularly love the beginning, and I love the instrumentation! The accordion fits so well to the vibe of a cozy, medieval village/town (I’ve never played tri force heroes, idk anything about what hytopia is like 🤡)
- It stands out as a very original/easily recognizable village theme but maintains some important elements from the Kakariko village theme! The guitar plays a figure that’s similar to Kakariko
Eagle’s Tower (Link’s Awakening)
- I’m pretty sure my favorite dungeon theme from this game is the Face Shrine, but this one has been stuck in my head way more recently
- It’s so eerie! While Face Shrine is as well, Face Shrine is more sad and dramatic while this one is just plain creepy
- Maybe I’m biased because I enjoyed playing this dungeon very much (I’m p sure I jumped back and forth between floors waaay more than necessary though 🫠)
- It’s like Link is just going through the motions at this point
Lanayru Mining Facility (Skyward Sword)
- Mmm yummy musical texture
- I can’t tell you what instruments are playing but I can tell you that they’re really satisfying to listen to
- I don’t care for the horn that comes in a few seconds in, I just love the mallets (???) and melodic percussion

Something that makes me super stinkin' happy in eow is that they used the horse race song from oot/mm. I fell in love with this jaunty little yeehaw song after listening to the 2018 Zelda concert where they went HARD for no reason on a song that most people do not even remember. Highly recommend giving it a listen.
Anyway I screeched a little when I started a race and found out the composers brought it back.

I've spent basically the last month working almost non-stop on these drawings for my recital, and I'm really proud of how they all turned out! It was a challenge to do such detailed backgrounds 😱😱😱
(I did not draw the logo myself, that would've taken too long 😖)

I actually prefer BotW and TotK's more atmospheric music over the more "traditional" Zelda music. It doesn't get repetitive as quickly

Have I ever talked about how much I love the beast Ganon battle from Twilight Princess? First of all, the music is so primal. It's percussion heavy and its got this wild deep chanting and the melody itself is just...strange. It's the perfect accompaniment to the fight because all the decorum is thrown out the window. Forget honor and pride. Forget swords and sorcery. In this moment, Link and Ganondorf are just two beasts trying to literally tear each other apart. Ganon tries to gore Link with his tusks, and Link rips into Ganon's stomach wound with his fangs. It's so violent and animalistic and it makes me fucking feral.

I didn't think they'd be opening with Tears of the Kingdom. They had me crying in the first 30 seconds.

Zelda songs that make me unnecessarily irritated, and why
Inside Jabu Jabu’s Belly (Ocarina of Time)
- I hated playing this dungeon. I still hate it. -100/10
- Honestly it’s not the stomach noises that ruin this track for me, it’s the fucking trap beat
Great Fairy Fountain
- Ghaasgdhdg ANNOYING
- So. Fucking. Repetitive
- It’s weird bc I love Chopin’s Fantasie Impromptu, which has an almost identical part, but I think it’s the dynamics that makes it bearable
- Yeah. I think it’s the lack of dynamics that makes Fairy Fountain so jarring to me
Kakariko Village (A Link to the Past/Ocarina/etc.)
- Melody is annoying. Worst part is I can’t help but hum along whenever I hear it
- I assume it’s supposed to sound calming or something? I just find it a bit too… nagging, in a way
Key Cavern (Link’s Awakening)
- I know it’s intentional, but the way the synth is just a tiiiiny bit too fast compared to the rest of the instruments stresses me out so bad
- Also I don’t know how to describe it but there’s this odd break in the synth just before it loops and it makes me want to rip my ears off. Anyways
