Yusaku for the character ask meme?

I watched Vrains as it aired, and I hooked onto Yusaku very quickly. It did not take long for me at all to look at Yusaku and see myself in him. Quickly my favorite character in Vrains, and remains so to this day. Before I was brainrotting about Yuga Ohdo, I was brainrotting about Yusaku Fujiki. I can still brainrot about Yusaku Fujiki like muscle memory if I put my mind to it; it's not that I'm brainrotting over him any less, I'm just very hyperfixated on the rush era rn.

Why I like them/why I don’t

What don't i like about Yusaku?

I love that he's a very...different yugioh hero. Sort of like how Yusei is, but with less racism and more cyberterrorism. Someone who the powers that be see as a threat, but the common guy comes to see as good. Someone who isn't doing this for fame, status, an image. He does what he does for himself and the people he cares about; he goes after Hanoi for revenge, goes after Lightning for Kusanagi (at least, initially, he does jump on the humans and AI can coexist train very quickly though), goes after Ai for, well, Ai. He's selfish, he's allowed to be, the narrative doesn't villainize him for it.

He also comes preloaded with trauma that we learn about very quickly, learn more about how it's even worse as time goes on, and then we get to watch him go through more trauma. We get to watch him give up because he feels he has nothing left and doesn't want to fight anymore. I love a guy in agony.

What I like about their appearance

His IRL appearance is everything to me. Look at his fucking hair. He's so Yugioh and I love it. Blue is my favorite color and he has so much blue going on. The pink is such a nice contrast and helped me appreciate pink and stop hating pink. He's got beautiful green eyes. His outfits are his school uniform, the uniform for Cafe Nagi, and a black hoodie (and pants, I don't remember what the pants for that looked like).

The outfit in Vrains? I really like it when the lines glow different colors based on what kind of monster he's summoning from his Extra Deck. That's a neat touch. Obviously I still like his eyes, same eyes. The rest of it? It's not a bad design, but doesn't appeal to me personally. I prefer IRL Yusaku.

OTP

Yusaku/Takeru. I am firestormshipping's strongest soldier (or at least, I used to be, back when it qualified as a rarepair...) Holds these two boys in my hands. It's about living through the same trauma but learning that not everything that came of it is bad and learning to heal together. Also the contrast between fire, something that creates light, and darkness, something that snuffs it out.

NOTP Datastormshipping unless it's done a specific way. Tala reminded me that when it's done a specific way, I do actually like it quite a bit, though.

Oh, he has so many good ones....

Firewall Dragon (sweet prince banned shortly after his debut), Linkuriboh, Cyberse Magician, and Update Jammer are all up there, though. If I had to pick one, I think Cyberse Magician is an unsung hero who deserves more praise. I cheered when Yusaku ritual summoned. I love ritual summons.

"There isn't enough of two guys just being friends!" Is such a weird take to me cuz like...

Yugi and Joey, Tristan and Joey, Judai and Manjome, Judai and Sho, Judai and Edo, Yusei and Jack and Crow, Yusei and Bruno (yeah I ship it but it's not canon), Yuma and Shark, Yuma and Bronk, Yuma and Kaito, Yuya and Sora, Yuya and Sawatari, Yuya and Gong, Yuto and Shun/Shay, Yusaku and Takeru, Yusaku and Kusanagi, Takeru and Flame (again I ship it but there's nothing canonical about it), Yuga and Luke, Yuga and Gakuto, Yuga and Roa, Yuga and Nail

And that's just within Yugioh. There are so fucking many. Even outside of Yugioh, I can name just tons and tons of male characters who are just friends and don't end up romantic.

Meanwhile, every single male/female relationship either has one of them (usually the girl) have a crush (Judai and Asuka, Yuma and Tori, Tristan and Miho) or they end up romantically involved in the end (this latter option is admittedly more of a problem in western media since most anime I watch don't like confirming relationships but I could still name so many).

So often I'll watch a movie or show that's not even a romance and they still manage to squeeze in some romantic subplot no matter how forced or pointless it seems. Edge of Tomorrow comes to mind immediately for me, what even was the point of pairing those two outside of "the lead two characters are a man and a woman"? Do we really want to set a precedent that men and women can never be friends? Because this happens. All the time. Indy gets a new girl in every single Indiana Jones movie. Leia was the only woman of the group in the OG Star Wars trilogy so she had to get paired with one of the guys and one of them was her brother so that can't happen. But it was happening romantically (even if only slightly) before they knew. What even was the point of the romantic sideplots in the Equestria Girls movies? Oh and Fox and the Hound introducing a female love interest just so she can be the female love interest. The boy and girl in Mr Peabody and Sherman are both like nine and the movie still insists on pushing a romantic angle between them when one of them tried to choke out the other. Nearly every Disney princess movie gives their lead a prince, with some being more pointless than others. Doppler and Amelia are implied like twice then randomly have children at the end of Treasure Planet. Don't even get me started on Warrior Cats. I could go on but I'll stop for now.

Male/female friendships who stay purely platonic and aren't siblings (Luke and Leia) or different species (Nick and Judy from Zootopia) are so so much rarer than male/male or female/female friendships, which are basically everywhere. And what kind of message does that send? That a man and woman can never just be friends? I'd rather not go into how much this exact mindset ruined or just confused so many of my past friendships so just know that my frustration with this is partially personal.

I'm so tired of the most obligatory milk toast straight couples being shoved into every movie or show I watch, especially if it's said female character's only trait or purpose to the narrative. Meanwhile, LGBT pairings are still fighting for representation in media. Steven Universe and The Owl House were revolutionary in terms of representation and they both got canceled early.

It's one thing if the movie is about romance (ie: WALL-E and Elemental are two of my favourite Pixar movies) but it's another when the romance or one sided crush is just shoved in because "that's what men and women have to be doing." It's a stupid mindset and it needs to stop.

This is why Judai & Asuka, Yusaku & Aoi, and Yuga & Romin being purely platonic matter so much to me.

Yusei and Yusaku being friends within link vrains is godly. They'd get along really well, the high level of respect and bonding over cool dragons.

Then you have Jack and Kusanagi both looking after them. Jack knows squat about hacking or computers, but he looks after Yusei anyway.

Yusei can be rather reckless, to protect others he'll do dangerous things. Jack yells at him every single time he does something stupid. But it's worth it.

THEN! You've got Yusaku bonding with someone similar to him, he would really respect Yusei. Also Yusei does cool tricks on his d-board, cool spins or is able to use the wind to face backwards towards his opponent like he can on his d-wheel. Yusaku wants to learn that too.

Yusei and Yusaku, case in point are best dragon boys.

#168: Ring

It had been ages since Kusanagi had seen Yusaku. Right after the business with the Knights of Hanoi and Ignis had been dealt with, after things had calmed down and the horrors of the Lost Incident were finally laid to rest, Yusaku had just… left. Without really saying a word to anyone, he had just left, dropping out of school (some rumors said he transferred elsewhere, but no one really knew for sure) without a prior warning. He just… disappeared.

It had been a few years since then, now, and things were fine for everyone else. Jin had been released from the hospital and was living with him, helping him out at the hotdog truck and keeping up with his online studies. Takeru had gone back home for a while, before coming back for university with his girlfriend, Kiku. Aoi was still an idol in Link VRAINS. Emma hung out at the truck every now and then. Spectre had gone to therapy, and after long sessions, his mental health had become a lot better. Ryoken was living on his own, keeping the network safe as Revolver.

They were all doing fine, now. Kusanagi saw every one of them every now and then, when they came to the hotdog truck. Even though Yusaku wasn’t around, it was nice. Kusanagi would have felt calmer, though, if he knew anything about Yusaku’s whereabouts, anything at all. Even just how he was doing would have been good.

Today, they had all ended up at the plaza. Takeru and Kiku were out on a date, Akira, Aoi and Ryoken had a lunch break, Emma was there for the kicks and Spectre was there to hang out with Jin (those two had, unexpectedly, become rather good friends).

It was all well and good, until the new customer came. “Two coffees, please.”

“Coming…” Kusanagi trailed off, blinking down at the customer once he recognized the voice.

Everyone else, too, turned to stare at the newcomer. They stared, and blinked, until Takeru jumped up from his seat. “Yusaku!”

“Takeru.” Yusaku acknowledged his presence with a nod. “It’s been a while.”

“It’s been a while”, Aoi mumbled, disbelieving. “You just disappeared into thin air. Where have you been, Fujiki?”

Emma giggled. “I don’t think it’s Fujiki anymore. Or is it?”

They all looked at her in confusion. Then, much to their shock, Yusaku gave her a sly smile. “Yes, I suppose it’s not Fujiki anymore.”

“What?” Jin looked around, confused.

Ryoken was the first to notice it, after Emma. His eyes widened a little, before he turned to look at Yusaku. “You’re married?”

“EH?!”

“That’s right.” Yusaku brought up his hand, showing off the golden band with a single small, almost blueish diamond on it.

“Since when?” Jin asked, curious.

“For a while now”, Yusaku admitted, humming. He seemed to look around the plaza, perhaps for someone.

“You didn’t invite us.” Emma pouted.

“I was meant to, but… things came up.”

“Things came up?” Akira asked, just as Kusanagi began pouring the two cups of coffee.

“The news of the engagement got leaked to the public, and it became a huge thing.” Yusaku shrugged his shoulders. “The mayor insisted we get married as soon as possible, and so… Well, by the end of the week, we were married.”

Spectre raised an eyebrow. “Oh? Are you, perhaps, married to some celebrity?”

Everyone’s interest was piqued at that. As Yusaku turned to pay to Kusanagi for the coffee, he hummed. It wasn’t in agreement or denial, though, more a thoughtful hum.

Before he could answer, though, a loud cheer came from the screens set up on the plaza. They turned to look at them, only to see that a Riding Duel that had been shown had come to an end, with the winner being announced. The blond clad in white, named Jack Atlas, raised his hand into the air and shouted. “There can only be one King! And for that title, I will challenge Fudo Yusei into a duel!”

Cheers followed the man’s declaration. But the lot of them didn’t really get what the big deal was.

Someone came over to the truck. Yusaku, who had paid for the drinks, took them and turned to them. They all watched, mystified, as Yusaku smiled to the other person and gave him the other cup. “So? What are you going to do?”

The man chuckled, glancing back at the screens. “Well, it’s Jack. It’s not like I can ignore his challenge or anything.”

“So you’ll duel”, Yusaku hummed, taking a sip of his coffee.

“Yeah.” The man nodded, sipping his own coffee. “Besides, I think it’s about time he got his title back. It just brings trouble and unwanted attention to me.”

“Are you referring to our impromptu wedding?” Yusaku raised an eyebrow, looking amused. He sipped his coffee to hide a smirk.

The man laughed. “Yes. Yes, I am.”

The others looked at the man, a little closer this time. His hair was black, with golden highlights. His eyes were royal blue, and there was a yellow mark on the left side of his face. Some of them recognized it for what it was – a criminal mark.

This was Yusaku’s husband?

“Anyways, we should go.” Yusaku took a look at his wristwatch. “You have a presentation at the university in an hour. It would not do to be late.”

“Martha would kill me”, the man admitted.

“The mayor and Ushio would kill you, Yusei, the mayor and Ushio”, Yusaku corrected.

“No.” The man, Yusei, shook his head as he turned around, taking Yusaku’s hand into his own. “They can try, but they can’t. Martha? She doesn’t even need to try. You know just how scary she can be when she’s angry.”

They could hear Yusaku laugh, and in the end, wasn’t that the most important thing? That Yusaku was happy, that he was able to smile and laugh and act like any other normal person out there? Even though they weren’t exactly sure about who this man was… he was good for Yusaku, at least.

The two matching rings glittered under the sunlight, when the two walked forward, to their future… hand in hand.

Pokemon sword and shield x Vrains - Similairity

since I was too hyped for both vrains and pokemon (yet lack of passion for drawing ; w ; I do it slow ) so, I draw little comic of them ^w^

- I notice that Leon , the galar Champion really look like Kusanagi Shoichi (hotdog guy of vrains) so here, have some of Kusanagi family with him

- Gossifluer , the new grass type pokemon , really look like Playmaker/Yusaku!! so many pokemon trainer mistake him for it! (Leon take Yusaku to his world without permisson from Shoichi lololololololol)  

- So Yusaku finally got a pokemon which look like him , He could finally join the other protags who already have look alike pokemon!! 

- There are more Yu-gi-oh characters who look like Pokemon (That I could think of right now)  which are IV (zexal) and Furfrou , team ragnarok (5d’s) and trio bird legendaries , Jack atlas (5d’s) and Manectric..... please suggest me if you know more, ok? :D

Did you catch Ai's line about contacting someone named Yusei? My mind immediately went to Yusei Fudo, the 5D's protagonist...I don't think he'll make an appearance, but given the context (they were talking about Jin's Ignis), I wonder if Yusei is referring to the Wind Ignis and that's the one that belongs to Jin. It could be Wind because Yusei Fudo's ace monster, Stardust Dragon, was a WIND monster. Also, Shoichi later detected an anomaly related to the Wind Ignis after Jin's data was delivered.

Ooo that’s a very likely possibility that there’s a connection between the Wind Ignis and Jin. I never would have thought of it (I more suspected he had the Light Ignis and Spectre the Wind Ignis bc it green but maybe Spectre has orange then if this is true because Earth -> trees? hmm….). It’s a very interesting hypothesis though~
