Black Clover Pacific Rim Au

Hi everyone I had this idea some time ago and talked to some people about. Few of us actually started writing something and it looked pretty good. This is still an open idea and very much a WIP, but I wanted to finally share it 💕 (took me 1.5 months to do so)

Some main information

Jeager pairings are the same as combo parings in BC mobile game (I'll go through them below)

This is the time, when the jesger program was at its peak, so there is a lot of them and they are well organised

Characters are stationed at the Clover base (which is in Japan) officially run by Augustus Kira (he's terrified of Kaiju and is there only to uphold his reputation and position)

The story starts with Asta and Yuno arriving at the Clover base as new junior pilots with their jeager

Just like in Pacific Rim, this story happens in real world and suit countries are bases

Jeager pairings at the beginning of the story:

Nozel & Fuegoleon

Pilot one of the best jeagers in the whole world and are an extraordinary team.

They usually lead missions as captains.

They are very popular and known for their merits.

Everyone looks up to them and they have big fanclubs.

They go way back, so their drift is very efficient, until recent problems

They come from high situated families associated with the jeager program.

Asta & Yuno

They come from an orphanage and everyone suspects, that their parents died because of a Kaiju attack

They participate in try outs for jeager pilots

It appears that their drift is exceptional so they get it in to the training program, despite no one actually believing in them

Asta wants to become a jeager pilot, to obviously protect the citizens and become the next commander, but he also wants to impress a nun that was taking care of the boys in the orphanage

Yami & Jack

They are a mess to say at least, but at least they are efficient

This team is being sent out, when they need some unconventional methods

Their jeager uses sharp plasma edged swords and fights mostly close distance

Noelle & Mimosa

Since they come from the Vermillon and Silva families they are expected to do great

Nozel doesn't want Noelle to pilot a jeager, he says that she's weak, but she ends up signing up anyway

Girls are in the same training group as Asta and Yuno when they arrive at the Clover Base

However since Noelle was badly treated by her siblings she has problems with trust and her drift is very shaky

Her and Mimosa even though being effective in training fail in the jeager while drifting

However after Noelle gets to know Asta better, she learns how to deal with her emotions and past

Magna & Luck

They are the "wild" team

Their jeager is smaller, but very agile

It shoots fire projectiles and is able to electrocute

Luck's mother pushed him into the jeager program

At first it was hard for Luck to open up to Magna through drift

However later they begin to ghost drift... (This is Tam's and @t-f-t's idea!!!)

Also they are CHRONIC drift junkies (another amazing idea of Tam and Alex!)

Finral & Vanessa

Finral was pushed away by his influential family and ended up in the jeager program wanting to prove himself

Vanessa on the other hand was running away from her abusive mother

They clicked in the barracks, when they were sneaking out to a bar, during their training and it appeared they were compatible

They are a support jeager

Charlotte & Sol

Charlotte took Sol under her wing

They have a female looking jeager

Nacht & Morgen (Not active anymore 😔)

They used to be one of the best teams there were

However an accident happened and Morgen was ripped out of the jeager by a kaiju

Nacht finished the fight on his own, but it took a tool on him

He hasn't drifted with anyone since Morgen

He hangs around the base, but is very closed of, he only talks to few people

Julius (is he really by himself..?)

Julius is the only one known to pilot a jeager by himself

He excels at everything he does and quickly takes the lead

Commander of the forces

He has a secret partner pilot he doesn't know about... (yes it's Lucius)

Some relationships that happen:

Asta & Noelle (I have a story idea for them)

At first Noelle is apprehensive of him, but later, when she sees his good heart she warms up

Asta helps her and inspires Noelle to become stronger

She obviously never admits that she cares for him...

Yami & Charlotte

Their two teams usually don't work together and Charlotte seems to not be fond of Yami

However under the cold exterior she hides her crush on the rugged jeager pilot

They get to know each other while working at the same base

OCs

Briar (the meeting happens later in the story)

She is a modified human for a project Azure Queen

Azure-Queen was a scientific attempt to create and control their own Kaiju, made by the Diamond base

Azure queens are genetically modified women who can theoretically control the Kaiju

Each Queen has one Kaiju

Briar has Uroboros

Yuno & Neva

They met earlier in the Academy, previously to being assigned to the Clover base

Neva was adopted and taken care of by a famous pilot William Vangeance

She is closed of and at first they did not get along greatly

However with time they learned to lean on each other

Neva was transferred to the Clover base without a partner pilot

She was amazing at the simulators but was closed of and could not drift with anyone

Now she has six months to find a co pilot or she's out

Nacht & Josele

one of the reasons Nacht stayed at the base was Josele

Josele is a coach for the jaeger training program, she takes care of new recruits such as Asta and Yuno

she used to be with Morgen and his death hit her hard

Nacht experienced through drift the memories of Morgen and Josele, so even though he had feelings for her as well he pulled back

Now he can't leave, something urges him to stay and watch her back

Lisa & Julius

Julius saves Lisa during one of the Kaiju attacks

She is grateful and joins the fight against them

She becomes one of the military advisors and watches over the missions

Her and Julius's relationship develops and they become very close

Zora & Odette

Zora is the best on the simulator. He kicks ass of all of those who are "better fit" to be jeager pilots, but there's one problem. He can't find anyone to drift with.

He meets Odette a new trainee brought by Yami

And somehow they click

Now they need to go through training until getting their jeager

Nozel & Helena (obviously I have a more developed story here as well)

Helena is a doctor from Spain who wishes to help with the Kaiju war so she gets a job at the Clover base

Little does she know, that she will fall for a mysterious and cold jeager pilot

Nozel and Helena meet during a mandatory health check up for pilots, because she fills in for his previous doctor, with who Nozel parted on bad terms

Nozel is even more angry about the doctor change and they start off at the wrong foot

Additionally their personalities and views on how the jeager program is conducted differ

However with time something, maybe curiosity, mystery and definitely desire, draws them towards one another, but they keep their relationship secret

However that's not the only secret that Nozel hides...

The only one who knows about Nozelena is Fuegoleon, because he shares a drift with Nozel

Poor Fuego has to watch them be not necessarily proper 😂. However it's not like his attention is not completely swept by a foreign Drift specialist...

Fuegoleon & Solara

Solara is a specialist, when it comes to drift. She compares the memories to the flowing river and teaches the pilots how to navigate and let it flow, so they would more efficient

She was brought to the base by Mereolona, who normally doesn't pilot, but can join in when needed (she's a beast then)

Solara feels a special connection to a certain red headed pilot, who is one of those she's supposed to help with his recent drift problems

At first Fuego and Lara are shy and some misunderstandings slow down the pace of their relationship

However as time passes it develops into something deep and real

There are some problems, because other bases, especially the one she transferred from, need Solara, but the pair fights to be together

Some OC owners have more developed stories for their own OCs. I hope I didn't mix anything here in this summary.

I to be honest have some specific ideas only for two (Nozelena and Astelle).

Hi Laura! No need to be sheepish. 💖 Thank you so much for the ask and for indulging my ramblings. I think it's incredibly sweet that you've asked about @lyranova's pairings. They're lovely! I'm honestly a little feral about Zerilliam, and I rambled about that and about the pairings in general in this response to Lyra's ask. ^^

I would be thrilled to share my Fuelara thoughts with you here, especially since, at this point, I am so invested in this pairing that I have to constantly, consciously remind myself that Solara is not a canon character. She just exists in the world of Black Clover in my mind now, and whenever I imagine or think of Fue, she is right there by his side.

I have to be honest that before I found your blog and we became friends, I really didn't think that much about Fuegoleon. I always liked him and had a lot of respect for him, but he wasn't really a character I just sat around and thought about too much. (His brotherly relationship with Leopold is just too functional. Let's blame that lol😂 I promise I'm only joking, and I adore them! Vermillion Bros for the win!!) But you write him with such depth and such nuance that it really gave me a new appreciation for his character. That one shot you wrote about his feelings of inadequacy after his injury has stuck with me to this day and remains one of my favorite fics I've ever read about anything in any fandom. You and your incredibly powerful writing made me love Fue, and as I was coming to really love him and becoming so much more invested in his character and his story, I found your absolutely incredible Solara who is truly (and this is probably intentional on your part but needs to be said) perfect for him.

Fuelara is everything a canon character x oc relationship should be in my opinion. I hope it goes without saying that Solara is such an incredibly strong and compelling character in her own right and I love that you've given her her own story beyond just being Fue's love interest, but even beyond that, she fits so seamlessly into the world of Black Clover (and I know you shared with me in the past that that was something that was really important to you while creating her, and I think you have succeeded in that in every possible way). Like I said in the beginning of this post, I really do genuinely have to remind myself she isn't canon. She just feels like she belongs there. I can't tell you how much the way you've meticulously crafted Fuelara and weaved them into the world of BC has been a personal inspiration for me. (Apologies in advance for the tangent but) my big passion project right now is a very ambitious multi-chapter fic for another fandom which I'm co-creating with a friend of mine, and it involves an OC x CC relationship (that I'm mostly in charge of 😅) so I actually find myself thinking about and talking about Fuelara as kind of this blueprint and inspiration for everything I can only hope my own ship will ultimately be. Even though the world of that story (late 90s/early 2000s suburban America) and the world of Black Clover couldn't possibly be more different, I'm sure Sprinkles could tell you that I have specifically mentioned Fuelara (specifically their relationship's seamless integration into the existing world and story) and what an inspiration it is for me personally, so many times while working on this project. It is truly so impressive, and I want to write like that. (Side note, I have definitely been using your tips and suggestions for OC integration throughout this process, so thank you again for that!)

Beyond just how well Solara perfectly fits into the world (which I've rambled about a lot), she also perfectly fits with Fuegoleon to the point that it's actually difficult for me to imagine him with anyone else at this point. I'm honestly really surprised I have made it through these ramblings without any random, unsolicited music references, but you're about to get one. There's a song called "We Go Well Together" by Goldheart (Spotify; YouTube) and here's a few lines, "We're just like kids up on a swing/Finger and a wedding ring/We go perfectly/It's so easy." That's just Fuelara to me: It's so easy. That's not to say that it's easy for them--they've certainly had their struggles and been through so much together, but their relationship dynamic, their love for each other, and their interactions are just so effortless. Of course Embers is fantastic, but I think I love your cozy little one shots about them most of all because I just adore how they interact with each other. They're so comfortable with each other, and it feels so real and so genuine. There's really no need for me to suspend belief or to try to create some buy in into their relationship. They just talk to each other and I'm immediately convinced they're deeply in love and just perfect for each other. One of my favorite things about them is how they are both such strong people, but they can be vulnerable together, and I love these really tender moments where they encourage each other that they don't have to carry the weight of the world alone. I just can't get over how supportive they are of each other, and I just adore that.

Gah, this ship is just so good. It's canon. It's honestly better than canon in a lot of cases, and I really can't get enough of it. I think I've said this before, but I'll say this again. Thank you for this pairing! I love it. ❤️‍🔥

Despite the fact that I am not an artist, I do like getting a sense of scale with characters. Because, well, height is part of character design and I think it's pretty important.

I have an especially odd fascination with height differences in ships. So I decided to take a look at my ships and ships from mutuals to see how varied and how large the differences can get.

Let's start by taking a look at the numbers alone.

Nacht x Josele: 180 cm vs 169 cm: 11 cm difference

Nozel x Helia: 177 cm vs 174 cm: 3 cm difference

Nozel x Adva (@cringeyvanillamilk): 177 cm vs 190 cm: 13 cm difference (This is the only pairing, among these m/f ships, where the female is taller than the male.)

Fuegoleon x Koli (@cringeyvanillamilk): 188 cm vs 188 cm: 0 cm difference (If this were a competition, which it isn't, these two would win the award for the smallest height difference since there is none.)

Fuegoleon x Solara (@thoughtfullyrainynightmare): 188 cm vs 175 cm: 13 cm difference

Yuno x Rex (@cryo-visionary): 172 cm vs 165 cm: 7 cm difference

Yuno x Neva (@lyranova): 172 cm vs 157 cm: 15 cm difference

Julius x Aika (@simpingforthisonedeer): 180 cm vs. 170 cm: 10 cm height difference

Gordon x Deline (@ruffian-writings): 187 cm vs 167 cm: 20 cm difference (At least for now, this ship wins the award of having the greatest height difference.)

Now, for a visualization of those height differences! (The average height of females went up so now Solara and Tani are closest to the average.)

I personally think it's interesting looking cc x oc ships where the cc is the same and compare the difference in the partner. I mean, the gap between Helia and Adva is an entertaining 16 cm.

I'm not really sure what to do with this information. But I guess for other writers and the artists of the community, now you know just how much leaning is gonna have to happen whenever the couple goes in the for the kiss. Or maybe the taller party will pick up their short sweetheart.

This information could also be used for oc interaction scripting. Like, if Adva and Neva were to meet, Neva would hurt her neck looking up./j (I mean, it's a 33 cm difference, over a foot!) And I never realized how close in height Josele and Aika were until now.

Let me present to you:

YuNeva in Let's Puck out Limits

It was by the end of the preseason, few days before their first tournament game that Yuno was gliding from one goal to another with just his puck and stick as companions. He needed to practice, needed to be faster as if wind if his attacks were going to work against Asta. 

For that reason Yuno was greatly focusing on his footwork, making sure that his crossovers were immaculate and they probably looked this way from the outside, but he knew that he was wobbling. Just as with one swift movement he made a wrist shot lifting the puck of the ice and putting it in the right upper corner of the net he heard the ice rink’s door open. Another person set their blades on the cold ice surface. 

He turned around recognising her platinum blonde hair tied in a low braid, fair complexion and a purple training set. A figure skating one. Her name was Neva. Yuno knew that much. His captain William Vangeance seemed to be some sort of a guardian to the girl and she was allowed to work on her figure skating skills whenever the rink was free. 

They passed each other quite a few times, exchanged curious, shy looks, but none of them ever spoke up. Yuno was not the first one to start a conversation and Neva did not seem any better. She started circling on the opposite side of the rink warming up and starting with some little jumps.

Yuno skated over to pick up the puck with his stick, but he could not peel his eyes of the figure skater… there was just something in the way she moved. How beautifully she glided on the ice, shining as if she was a diamond and her footwork… it was amazing. 

Maybe..?

Yuno turned his head to the side. 

“Not a chance,” he muttered and started playing around with the puck. He kept to his side of the rink.

However as the practice progressed he subtly gazed at the girl much more often, admiring her balance and skills. Neva was no better than he was, Yuno could sense her eyes turning to him from time to time, before lifting into a jump and finishing a sequence. That crossover was immaculate…

Yuno furrowed his brows determined. He was going to ask. If asking Neva to give him some footwork tips was what he needed to do to get better, he was going to do so. He gripped on his stick and skated over towards the girl.

“Hi,” he raised his hand shyly, because openly asking the girl was not his strong suit. 

Neva wobbled, clearly surprised by him initiating contact. She halted catching herself. Her platinum hair slightly covered her face. Her lips were pressed together. Then Yuno felt his breath hitch… because she looked up. He had never seen such pretty eyes before. They were a light hue of purple and they shone like two precious diamonds.

He blinked, not sure how to start, completely thrown off. 

“Hi,” Neva’s eyes were narrowed. There was a question in her gaze, but strained with a drop of mistrust. 

“Hi,” he repeated himself flatly, suddenly brought down to earth.

“Yuno, right?” The girl asked. 

“Yes and you’re Neva.”

This was awkward. Why was she looking at him this way? He had no ulterior motives for approaching her, there was no reason to feel this way. Yet for some reason his breath got stuck in his throat.

“Do you need something?” she crossed her arms over her chest. 

“Your crossover,” he pointed at her skates. 

Neva looked up at him for the first time curious, not suspicious. 

“It was really good,” Yuno would brush through his hair if not for the helmet on his head. He finally raised his eyes at her. “I want to learn.”

“Learn..?” Neva blinked, not really following. 

“How to skate like you do… graciously,” he muttered.

“It’s not easy,” Neva straightened up, but she gripped her wrist with her hand. “Figure skating requires you to commit… sacrifice.”

“Will you teach me?” Yuno blurted out. 

He had no idea why he did it, but as silence prolonged he started to realize it was a bad idea. A very very bad one. After all, none of his teammates did not become friends with Neva for a reason right? He never understood it, but maybe she did not need friends. A perfect diamond, all on her own.

He turned away, gripping his stick. 

“Not a chance,” he muttered under his breath as he pushed away from the ice.

“Okay…” he heard a whisper. 

Yuno froze on the spot. He blinked surprised, before once again facing Neva. Her head now raised high and there seemed to be a challenge in her gaze. Purple eyes glittered beautifully. 

“I will teach you,” her voice was confident.

For some reason its sound made Yuno’s heart beat faster.

Blades of grass swayed in the wind along with the wild flowers of the field. Yellow, purple, and white.

Yellow, perhaps even gold, like his amber eyes that sparkled in the light of the sun.

Purple, like the jewels that were her amethyst eyes glittering like gems of the earth.

White, like the clouds that floated by high above in the clear blue sky.

A couple of birds flied through the scenery, carried by a breeze while making a few loops, higher and higher before taking a dive down and then back up again, as if without a care in the world. And maybe they didn’t. After all, the wind carried them. The ground supplied them with food and a place to land when they were tired. So, they were free to fly. They were free to play.

They were free, simple as that.

Perhaps that was why Yuno had gotten lost in thought while looking at them as he and Neva walked through the field. His feet kept moving forward, but his eyes looked at the birds. For something about them made him feel the faintest of senses of recollection. As if he had seen the birds, or a flight, just like that. Perhaps a memory of something in the past. He wasn’t sure.

And yet, he watched, imagining that he knew how the birds felt.

Which was a silly notion. He wasn’t a bird.

He might have been a wind mage, or, he might have been partly a wind mage, who enjoyed soaring high above in the sky, but he wasn’t a bird. He couldn’t fly off into the wide, wide world, just like that. But still, there was no envy in what he felt.

However…

“What are you thinking?” Neva asked, through the silence.

“Hm?” He uttered, awakened from his thoughts.

“What are you thinking about?” She repeated while glancing at him from the corner of her eye.

“Nothing… in particular,” he added as his eyes flickered to her for a moment, but was followed a small shrug, because it wasn’t, really, anything particular that he was indeed thinking about.

She hummed and looked to the sky where the bird still danced.

“They look happy,” he said while stopping at their usual spot on the field, overlooking a valley, under an apple tree.

“Maybe they are,” she only commented, not thinking about it.

There was something about it, the whole situation that was … odd. Not the picnic. Not the day. The date. None of it. But the conversation must’ve sounded like idle talk. Small talk. Something, past of which they were.

It wasn’t silence that made either of the uncomfortable. There was no need for awkward words, just to fill the silence. And in a strange way, it was as if the words weren’t idle. There wasn’t anything awkward about the whole situation. But still, it was as if they were… onlookers to the whole moment, as if in a dream.

Maybe it was disbelief. Disbelief that they were there, after everything that had happened to them. As if against all odds.

Still, he hummed as a reply to her while placing the picnic basket down and spreading the blanket onto the ground with the aid of his wind magic.

One might’ve thought that it was a bit of showmanship, though she had seen him do things that would muck better have fit under the wording of ‘showmanship’, than that. But still the chance to note it to him, was far too sweet to pass.

“Showing off?” She asked with an amused smile that bore a hint of a smirk.

“Not really,” he smirked, as if to himself, but more to her words.

“Yeah, right,” she mused while sitting down and taking the drinks and snacks out of the basket as he stood there, looking into the distance. “But you are thinking about something,” she still continued.

And she wasn’t entirely wrong. He had to admit. But the thing was: he wasn’t entirely sure about what it was that he was thinking about either.

“Not sure,” he said while sitting down himself.

“What does that mean?” Neva asked with a curious look.

“I mean…” he had to think about it for a while, but instead he closed his eyes with a sigh, or perhaps a mere deep exhale, and laid down on the blanket on the ground. “A lot has happened.”

And she couldn’t argue against. They really had been through a lot. Not alone though. Everyone they knew, their friends and families, had been through a lot, but… it didn’t make it feel any less.

“Yeah…” she agreed with a silent tone, almost as if a thought that had come out with a sound, and laid down next to him.

The branches of the tree reached over them, but still sunlight flickered from amidst the foliage. The singing of the birds, the happy chirping, flowed through the air, carried by the wind.

And they did sound happy.

“Carefree,” Yuno said, with a muffled tone.

“Hm?” She hummed, looking at him, and saw his eyes close again, right before he rolled onto his stomach, closer to her.

His face was close to hers, so very close. His hair was almost touching her skin, and she could feel his breathing flowing over her forehead. It was enough to make her feel warmth rising to her cheeks.

Her eyes widened for a while, as his studied her face; wandering over her, complexion, her expression, as if trying to imprint it into his mind. A sacred treasure, like a jewel.

“Carefree,” he whispered.

Her eyes flickered, looking at him in return.

“The birds. They are so…” he swayed his head as his hand found its way to her hair, and twirled a lock around his finger. “Carefree. The birds are carefree. Happy.”

“And?” The word came out before she could think about it. It just flowed from her, but it was something she wanted to hear. After all, he was going somewhere with this.

“And…” he uttered, looking up to where the birds still flied, even if he couldn’t see them. “I think… I understand them.”

He wasn’t usually this talkative, so it must’ve been something that he had really been thinking about for some time.

“There have been times when… flying away, like those birds… Seemed nice. To be able to just soar to the sky and feel free,” it was nothing more than a quite thought, one that he was, perhaps, only now admitting to himself, too. “I wasn’t going to give up on becoming the Wizard King,” he added with a serious tone, glancing at her. “But sometimes I…”

“You just wanted to feel free. What it’d be like,” she spoke in his stead, because she understood it; the curiosity of what it’d feel like to be free. Truly free. Like going anywhere and doing anything, was an option, was like.

At the end of the day, neither of them would have seriously considered it, going away, or ‘flying away’, but the feeling was a curiosity.

“But I am… free,” he said. “Now, I am free.”

She frowned, not quite sure about what he meant with it as his fingers still played with her hair.

“I feel… free,” he admitted, as if a secret. “When I’m with you, Neva.”

“I…” she uttered, unsure of how to reply. But it didn’t mean that she wouldn’t have understood the feeling in her heart. So, that’s what her soul spoke in her mind’s stead. “I feel free with you too, Yuno. Carefree. Like everything will be alright.”

“Everything will be alright,” he told her, and he meant it. He was sure, that everything would be alright. It had been alright until then.

They were there, after all. Not because things had been easy, but because they had managed to get through it all.

“We’ll be alright,” he whispered before placing a kiss onto her forehead.

She closed her eyes, and took in the moment. The promise and the notion she knew to be true.

They’d be alright.

She knew it.
