Spoilers for the Yakuza Series
So, the Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth Bucket List Trailer dropped some really juicy reveals which longtime Yakuza fans will happily eat up, that being RETURNING CHARACTERS FROM PREVIOUS GAMES! Which is a big deal for the longtime Yakuza fans because, while Yakuza does bring back characters semi-consistently, the series also has a tendency to completely shelve and forget characters from game to game without even a mention (notable examples being the playable characters Tanimura from 4 and Shinada from 5 and longtime recurring character the Florist of Sai who after Yakuza 5 just disappears without any explanation). It’s also a big reason why fans disliked Yakuza 6, with it being touted and marketed as the ‘End of Kiryu’s Story’, it featured very little of Kiryu’s friends he met along his long journey and instead took place in a new city Onomichi and focused more on characters introduced in 6.
We got Kiryu returning to the classic Yakuza series location, the graves of Nishiki, Yumi and Kazama, where he of course meets Date.
Then we have Kiryu walk into Survive Bar and gets a blast from the past through finally meeting the bar’s bartender, Kashiwagi (he actually did go to Survive during Like a Dragon Gaiden but it was right when Kashiwagi was out).
Next, fresh off his surprise reappearance at the end of Like a Dragon Gaiden, Taichi surrounded by gaggle of hostesses. Gaiden reveals Taichi got a job as a firefighter, but it looks like he acquired some major money somehow. Maybe he achieved his childhood dream of becoming a pro-wrestler between 2019 and 2023/2024?
Next, we get Yuya, who RGG Studio has given an actual human-looking face to; after he had previously kept his weirdly-shaped uncanny PS2 modelled head that had his cheeks concaved in.
Then, of course, we have the man, the myth, the legend, Shun Akiyama of Sky Finance (don’t know about you guys, but I personally believe Nick Ogata in 7, who is a character I do like, was created as a fill-in character for Akiyama and Akiyama was originally written to do all the things Nick did in 7, being this enigmatic financier and sheltering Daigo, Majima and Saejima).
And, yet another major surprise, Kaoru Sayama who was major character in Yakuza 2 and famously unceremoniously leaving the series to move to America finally returns to the series after a 14/15 year absence; leaving fans especially flabbergasted considering she became Kiryu’s love interest in 2 and she never even gets talked about (in fact, I’m fairly sure the RGG team tried to pretend that their romance never happened as the recaps of Yakuza 2 put in the sequels to fill in first-time players never mention their romance and the Yakuza 3 character sheet on the start menu which denotes characters’ relationships with each other says “Just friends” with Kiryu and Kaoru). But, based on a teaser where Kiryu tells Ichiban he did in fact propose to someone before, it seems it might have been Kaoru. Plus, it seems that Kaoru is still single (I was thinking she might have been married with kids) and the dub trailer made Kaoru sound bitter about staying loyal to Kiryu.
An Ono Michio keychain. Wondering whose bag it’s on. I think maybe Haruka, Haruto or Hiromi (Kiyomi and Someya’s daughter from 6). Perhaps a hint that we might return to Onomichi and see the old Hirose Clan.
We even get a return of Yuki and Koyuki, who have seemingly kept Club Four Shine going, plus it looks like Saeko and Seong-hui are joining in. Sadly, the story hostesses from 0’s Cabaret Club Czar and Kiwami 2’s Cabaret Club Grand Prix don’t seem to be returning. Yeah, I think that characters that were played by AV actresses (i.e. almost all of the hostesses in the Yakuza series) will not come back; which I’m really disappointed by as I really liked each of the 0 hostess’ substorys. Also, that sadly means that Eri from 7 is probably not coming back as she was also played by an AV actress.
Kiryu also reunites with another old friend from all the way back since Yakuza 1, his old trainer Komaki. Infinite Wealth will stick to the RPG-style battles and job systems, and even before then the games have more-or-less moved past Komaki and other trainer characters teaching you new moves in favour of Kiryu just levelling up a skill tree on the menu, but Kiryu meeting his old master who he owes much of his acquired strength to is still great to see.
And, of course, 1 out of 4 of Kiryu oldest still living friends since 0 (the others being Daigo, Kashiwagi and Majima), Pocket Circuit Fighter; still having that photo of the two of them together that he pulls when singing Baka Mitai in Kiwami 1.
We also hear Haruka in the trailer, who I’m fairly sure was also replaced from her original English voice actor from Yakuza 1 Debi Derryberry, the voice of Jimmy Neutron. I don’t want to get into the whole voice acting controversy but, considering that Bill Farmer reprised his role of Date from Yakuza 1, I feel a little sad that all the characters who first appeared from Yakuza 1 have gotten replaced (Kiryu: Darryl Kurlyo -> Yong Yea, Majima: Mark Hamill -> Matthew Mercer, Kashiwagi: John DiMaggio -> David Hayter and Gary Buster Holmes: Gary Anthony Williams -> Isaac C. Singleton Jr.)

yakuza tier list
S Rank - Games Firing On All Cylinders
Yakuza 5: melacholic, sprawling, hopeful, grounded. the best these games get. i could write an essay on the valorization of service workers in this
Lost Judgement: a compelling plot, great characters, and a full use of the larger playground offered by Ijincho
A Rank - Every Virtue Save One
Judgement: the best story RGG ever told, and the most punchable villain. every aspect is diagetically justified. just not quite as fun as LJ
Yakuza 0: majima's story is fantastic. kiryu's story is fine. yumi should have been in this
B Rank - Good But Not Great
Yakuza 3: Kiryu actually has a life for a change; the americans are the villains. ps3 jank galore, and the fishing minigame is solid bullshit
Yakuza 4: a much needed break from Kiryu Kazuma, the Dragon of Dojima. akiyama and hana are great, tanimura is an essential humanization of the non-japanese residents of little asia
Yakuza: Like A Dragon: so many ideas! such incredible cutscenes! such interminable battles! i could fix it. i want to fix it
LAD Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name: Kiryu's swan song. has the courage to really sit with what a terrible decision he made at the end of Y6. plays the hits. akame rules
C - I See What You Were Going For
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth: None of YLAD's weaknesses but few of its strengths, either
Yakuza Kiwami: the plot's a mess, but the Majima Everywhere System is the best leveling idea in the series
D: Your Ideas Are Bad And You Should Feel Bad
Yakuza 6: daigo is kiryu's son? daigo? onomichi is a fantastic location, but every decision kiryu makes is aggressively bad. back to the stale racism of earlier games, particularly—
F: Oh RGG No
Yakuza Kiwami 2: persistently racist. the castle bit at the end is the most looney tunes thing in the series. the romance with sayama and the return of the hostess minigame aren't enough to redeem things

Your meme involuntarily brought to mind a scenario: darling one is preparing dinner, and her child is sitting next to the yandere at the table, waiting to enjoying your delicious cooking, and a short dialogue ensues.
Child: Hey mister! You're smashing my mom, aren't you?
Yandere and Darling: (Frozen in place in surprise and began to sweat nervously).
Child: Don't worry, mister! I really don't mind you as a dad, you are very good!
Darling: (Places dinner on the table in awkward silence, trying not to look at anyone out of shame).
(I can’t help but get the impression that darling's child will be that troll and matchmaker who always smiles innocently after every awkward comment as if he/she didn’t create the awkward situation 🥴)
-ˋˏSINCERELY YOURS. . . ->
EHEHEHEHH I AM SO HAPPY SOMETHING LIKE THIS CAME TO MY ASK FHIW EHEHEHHE (✿◡‿◡)
Imagine if Darling's kid wants just both of you and Yandere to be together so they can have another parent/father figure and all I got to say is…was darling and Yandere a bit too loud….(yandere getting backshots from darling 🤨😔) (I JUST LOOST MY DOOOOG)
Yandere is about to give Darling's kid a sibling all right😈😈😈
They would be immediately flushed when they heard the kid say that, but deep inside are happy that the kiddo approves of them after they spend more time with their kid may it be spoiling them and giving gifts, or even helping them with their homework, they want 100% of the kid's approval.
Kiryu Kazuma, Taiga Saejima, Kashiwagi Osamu, Makoto Makimura, Tetsu Tachibana, Yeonsu Kim, Sawamura Yumi, Makoto Date, Dojima Daigo, Tanimura Masayoshi, Tatsuo Shinada, Ichiban Kasuga, Masaharu Kaito and who you ever think of!
Mf is SMUG, they're happy that your kid approves of them and they too would spoil the kid, but heck even if without the kid's approval they would still date their parent/mom, the kid approving them is just an extra bonus. (about to get that milf bagged 😈)
Ryuji Goda, Ryo Aoki, Goro Majima, Akiyama Shun, Joon-Gi Han, and who you ever think of!
#✧- ‘YAKUZA’ ☆#yandere yakuza#yakuza x reader#yandere yakuza game#yandere x reader#yandere#x reader#too much too tag💀💀#I JUST LOST MY DAWGGGG🐺🐺🐺‼️‼️🔥🔥#every one of my darling is the one that gives all the back shots😈😈#that’s why they call me king. Yandere: Yes king😩😫

Did some real plot progression! Finished Tanimura's section ^^
The first and only thing I wanna say above the read more is F U C K that boat chase sequence. That was TERRIBLE. Had to switch to easy difficulty. I don't usually get motion sick, but that shit made me queasy. Controls were weird too. Or at least I thought they were.
Maybe I just suck - wouldn't be surprised. You see, I suck at those types of tasks in these games in general - the car/helicopter/truck shooting chase sequences in previous installments also had me tearing my hair out.
Corruption??? In law enforcement??? NO WAYYYY *pretends to be shocked* . Nah but fr. Wish I could say I'm surprised.
Okay I really wanna see how this was pulled off. I'm VERY curious. But also I feel SO bad for Saejima. He lost 25 YEARS of his life to murders he didn't actually commit. Obviously he would have done some time for attempting the whole thing, but I doubt it would have been anywhere close to that long.
IT'S ALL STARTING TO COME TOGETHER. I've been waiting for this!! Can't wait to see all the boys working towards solving this mess. I was worried for a second that this would be kind of like Y0 and they'd always be so close to each other but never cross paths.
I'm happy I actually managed to get this part right in my first impressions-based character analysis. Maybe it was obvious, I don't know. Always fun to see what I get right or wrong. Gosh, Akiyama is such an intriguing character. So, SO rich, yet still so kind.
Also I'm sorry but I still don't buy this Akiyama-Falling-For-Yasuko thing. Like sure!! I've heard love can be quite unpredictable and some people fall fast. Hell, maybe Akiyama is that type of person. But... I feel like they barely interacted in my opinion. I remember there was the whole "looks like my ex whom I still miss" thing and I guess that's... valid? But gahhh. I just don't feel this one.
In fact, if there's one thing I don't like about the games too much this far, it's how these "romances" are handled. It often feels like they either:
A) come out of nowhere (current example and Kiryu and Yumi imo) OR
B) they're there for a very small amount of time and then they're kind of... pushed aside and not explored (Kiryu & Kaoru).
Only exceptions I can come up with are... OBVIOUSLY Majima and Makoto and, while it wasn't a romance, I also liked the thing with Reina and Nishiki in Kiwami. Yes, despite how that one ended. Dunno know if that's a hot take or not.
Looking back, there were some visible flags for this that I probably should've picked up on. But to be honest, I don't tend to pick up on things on first playthroughs in general, AND it had been a while since I played Akiyama's part. This one was a surprise.
I liked this warehouse scene a lot in general. Sugiuchi's power play of "What are you gonna do? Shoot me? Japanese police don't shoot!" was rad and it really showcased how much of a veteran he is in terms of knowing how the police operate.
Also enjoyed the display of Tanimura's almost tunnel vision-type of determination for finding the truth. Consequences be damned; this man will shoot and fight if it keeps Sugiuchi there and gets him closer to his goal.
Sugiuchi being an undercover Yakuza member came out of left field for me. Gosh, I kind of wanna see more of this guy's life and how he operated back in the day. His backstory was cool enough to fit a protagonist character in my opinion.
Uh-
Huh. Okay. Umm... lemme just... Process.
I can kinda sorta see it. Maybe. Still, a very risky plan. This relied on:
-all the men actually getting knocked out from the bullets (especially those that didn't hit their heads) after they were hit and not waking up right after
-Saejima not noticing the relatively significant lack of blood from the bullet wounds and on the floor at any point
-Saejima not checking for signs of life on Ueno Yoshiharu after the shot like a proper assassin would
-AND, glaringly, two yakuza not noticing the bullets not being proper bullets while inspecting them before the hit.
Clearly it worked, but... gosh. So many risks. Also can I just say... Munakata is SCARY sharp. I know he's trained to notice discrepancies in crime scenes, but the way he utterly DISMANTLED Sugiuchi's report was kind of terrifying.
The amount of sloppiness on Katsuragi's part makes me wonder if it was all purposeful, though. It was almost like he knew Munakata was sus and would wanna contact him.
NAHHH NO WAY😭😭 There was only one gunshot, though!!!! Someone survived, it has to be true!! (delusional) 🥺

i just found you blog and omg 😭😭😭 thats honestly what i needed in my life! I recently started playing the games and ive been looking for a page like yours !!
Could i pls request some headcanons of a female s/o calming Nishiki (Kiwami 1) down after a fit of rage, where they endup cuddling and falling asleep together.
I've been reading your stuff so TYSM for writting for Tanimura and Shinada 🙏🙏 my underrated babies
Omg yes I'd love to do some content for our special koi boy Nishiki. Also yessss Tanimura fans rise up (Haven't gotten to Shinada in 5 yet but I stg as soon as I do it's so over, I am posting him). Mild spoilers for this one, specifically for Kiwami 1. Headcanons below da cut as per usual, have a great day anon!
Nishiki is the type of guy who wants to hide his imperfections from others, especially during Kiwami 1. He's under the most pressure that he's ever felt in his whole life and it's taking every fiber of his being to just stay afloat. He feels showing emotion about it is showing weakness and now is the worst time for him to appear weak. Despite any reassurances you may give him, he's still going to try to fight against these feelings, for better or worse.
It's hard enough to keep his family together, who clearly does not want to listen to a word he says and does not see him as an authority. Losing his sister was the last straw, especially after he tried so hard for her. It breaks your heart to see him so distraught but offering help just makes him rescind even further away.
You both know he won't be able to keep these feelings inside for much longer and the wrong comment from one of his low ranking family members is what makes him finally snap. He's beyond a pot boiling over. At this moment, Nishiki is more akin to a grease fire: sudden, intense, difficult to put out.
Before any of you can even realize what's going on, Nishiki is just absolutely raging. Even he never realized he was capable of such anger; everything until now was done out of love, for Kiryu, for Yumi, for his sister. Is there even any love left in his body to give, he wonders.
Quick to act, you hold him back before his fist can land, but Nishiki will resist, spitting out obscenities and holding back tears. The man who just narrowly escaped Nishiki's rage slinks away and the others in the room follow suit, but it isn't out of fear. You can hear them chuckling down the hallway about how Nishiki can't even actually get mad, that he's just at the beck and call of his lover and can't do anything by himself.
You hope Nishiki didn't hear any of that but the way he just completely slumps in your arms tells you everything you need to know. He heard it, all right, and to make matters worse, he thinks they might be right. He couldn't stop anything: not Kiryu going to jail, not Yumi going missing, not the death of his sister, not even his own feelings.
Nishiki just slumps to the floor, silent and tired. You kneel next to him and for once the both of you are completely silent. No more words trying to soothe his pain. No more excuses from him, no more "I'm fine, I can handle it". You both know the truth. It's too apparent now. Instead, you simply wrap your arms around him, pulling him close.
This gesture does so much more than words ever could for him. Immediately, he reciprocates, pulling you into a grasp so tight that it almost shocks you. Instead, you gently lay your head on top of his, which is currently buried against your chest and failing to hold back tears that have been bubbling below the surface for so long.
Nishiki sniffles, tries to find the words. His mind is racing for a reason, an excuse, an apology. You shush him with a simple "I know." and Nishiki just melts in your arms. Not sobbing outright, just quietly whimpering, finally feeling safe enough to actually feel all of these feelings that he's ignored for so long.
Eventually, you coax him to stand. His eyes still won't meet yours but he also won't let you go as if you're the very thing keeping him afloat right now. You gently usher him out and bring him back to your place, far away from the prying eyes of his family and the Tojo Clan and the cruel whispers of the city that you both learned to love and hate equally.
The second Nishiki sees the bed, he collapses on it as if his body finally recognized that it needed some rest. You can't help but crack a smile as you crawl into bed next to him. Deep down, he knows that you know who he really is, flaws and all, perhaps the only one truly he can trust right now.
Nishiki gently flops over, wrapping himself around you almost like a koala. You chuckle a little, gently joking at him, saying "Comfortable?" to which you only receive a soft grunt of approval. You reply with a kiss on his forehead, to which he finally meets your gaze. His eyes are filled with so many different things: hurt, anger, sadness, pain, and yet behind it all is still that faint glimmer of love, the Nishiki that only you really know. He manages a quiet but sincere "Thank you" before once again nuzzling his face against yours before the two of you fall into a gentle and much deserved deep sleep.
