love mulling over how werewolves and lycanthropy would work in this particular universe to start out with. werewolves are demons who possess wolves, and lycanthropy is a particular kind of mashou that their bite can cause. hundreds of years ago, it used to twist and transform the body and warp the mind, but these days it can be managed with medicine as long as the patient begins treatment early. lycanthropes are rare, and there aren't many lycanthropes who can actually transform anymore. in fact, there shouldn't even be any werewolves in japan. there's no wolves.

except for the one the Illuminati brought in for their elixir research. that escaped.

the egin family never fell into ruin. yuri was never abandoned in a junkyard. she never had her fateful encounter with satan, and therefore satan never began to grow an ego. but god itself could not stop her from her true destiny: being a Weird Girl(tm), so she still grows up fascinated with demons and ends up becoming an exorcist and working for the true cross order anyways.

(she still meets shiro as a child, briefly running away from home after arguing with her parents. even after she's returned to her parents, she never forgets him.)

rin and yukio are still born. they actually get to be shiro's biological kids this time, because things end up working out between him and yuri in this universe. they get to have some happiness, I think.

(mephisto is just like. hm. well this timeline is already so weird that this might as well happen.)

things fall apart in section 13 on their own, and lucifer still abandons it, and forms the Illuminati. werewolves have high regenerative properties, so naturally, they're an enticing research subject. the escape was not part of the plan, nor was it fleeing into more populated territory. or: mephisto hears that an unfortunate child was bitten in the process of subduing the werewolf, and was therefore infected with lycanthropy.

it's okumura fujimoto rin.

(mephisto doesn't even try not to laugh. it figures that in the one timeline he's actually human, that doesn't end up lasting long. this is amusing! he has no idea how this timeline will turn out, but it's certainly intriguing enough to keep around!)

Shiro is a clone of Azazel, strengthened by elixir research, so Rin was already showing signs of being sturdier than the average human regardless of being. well. human. lycanthropy just kicked it up a significant notch.

local lycanthrope is incredibly bad at actually taking his medication, and that's really the crux of it all. local lycanthrope has ADHD. constantly forgets to take his meds once he's old enough to be expected to keep track of them himself.

rin is way more influenced by his lycanthropy than the average lycanthrope is supposed to be. he takes his medication well enough to avoid most negative effects of lycanthropy, but he's more than capable of transforming into a wolf, if he wants. which he does.

yuri voice: we can't just rely only on the medication anyways. he should make peace with his inner wolf. i'm going to teach him to meditate.

(shiro and shura are skeptical. but yuri's approach works. she's not one of the most talented Tamers of her generation for nothing.)

i feel like shura also lives with the four of them. she's part of the family. the cool big sister who teaches rin how to use a sword. it's a struggle because he keeps breaking every wooden sword she brings him for a hot minute there.

(shiro still teaches him to control his strength by teaching him to cook.)

yukio still begins to train as an exorcist early, but by that I mean, like. thirteen years old early and not single digits early. he's still a prodigy, but he's a lower ranked exorcist than he is in canon by the time he turns thirteen. he works as shiro's teacher's aide in cram school.

shiro still ends up being the paladin. no rest for you.

yuri homeschools rin until middle school. his middle school debut goes about as well as expected. he's only talked into attending high school because exorcism cram school is dangled in front of him.

incredibly funny mental image of rin having yuri's affinity for demons except he has absolutely zero talent as a tamer in spite of this. can't summon shit.

rin knows the name of his condition perfectly fine. but he's also afflicted by 'curse of biting his lip when he tries to say lycanthropy' and misspeaking a disproportionate amount of the time.

godaiin voice: my roommate is a delinquent who secretly brought his cat into the dorms with him. this is fine. i'm fine.

(he quickly learns rin isn't as scary as he seems at first glance.)

rin: (<----trying to keep the whole lycanthrope thing under wraps at cram school. not everyone's wild about that sort of thing. except he sucks at it, because he's never really tried to keep it under wraps. he is truly in refuge in audacity territory because no one expects to meet a lycanthrope in japan.)

He finishes his mission early in the afternoon. It’s only one thirty. When he crosses the street, he can feel the heat of the car engines lined up at the intersection.

Rin sent him a photo of spicy noodles from a Chinese restaurant that Konekomaru and Ryuuji bought him for lunch. Everyone keeps bringing him food. At least, he appears to be doing reasonably well. 

Rin has been reading the notes Father wrote on another investigation that could be related to Ishikawa’s case. The question is, how does that relate to the distortion? Why is Mephisto so adamant that he focuses on Ishikawa’s case at this time?

A taxi honks when it turns. As Yukio waits at the intersection, he receives a call. It’s from Shura. 

“Shura-san?” 

“Hey. I’m having lunch at headquarters. There’s some punk sitting out here in the front. You’re free, aren’t you?”

Yukio steps under the awning of a convenience store. The air conditioning is pleasantly cold, ruffling his hair when the automatic doors open. “Not necessarily.” He grabs a basket, looking over a pile of discount items. 

“Well, he said something about a missing person, but they kicked him out because he kept swearing.” Someone else’s voice filters through, not quite clear enough for him to decipher. “He’s been here all morning.” 

Yukio holds his phone with his shoulder as he sets three bottles of green tea into his basket. There are several guards in the confinement tower where Rin is being held. Since he’s been visiting often, it’s better to bring something. “Why can’t you talk to him?” 

“Huh? Delinquents love you. Also, you’re just a junior inspector. I outrank you.” 

Yukio’s eyelid twitches. “I’m not good with delinquents.” He doesn’t manage to smile as politely as he’d like when the cashier bags his tea and sodas. 

“That’s too bad. I’m busy chasing the airport demon. It’s a huge pain.” 

“Really?” Yukio shifts his phone to his other shoulder as he leaves the convenience store. “I thought its leg was injured.” 

“Yeah, but it’s still fast. We don’t know what it wants, so we’re just chasing it around the city.” 

“That sounds unfortunate.”

“So, anyway, go talk to that delinquent. Mina at the front desk said he shouted something about the airport. He probably doesn’t know anything, but you might as well go scare some respect into him.” 

Yukio sighs when she hangs up. 

The streets are full of people near the shopping center. He picks up his pace as he heads down a set of stairs beneath a flowering wisteria tree. Its pale blossoms have scattered along the cracks in the cement, fluttering when he passes by. 

Only a day has passed. A demon that strong shouldn’t be capable of leaving this town once it’s inside. True Cross had its wards checked only a month ago. There should be no weak points. 

The question is, how did it enter undetected in the first place?

If you happen to forget, Shiemi’s name is an extremely shortened version of the name ‘Shemihaza’.

Why does it matter?

Well! It’s cuz the name “Shemihaza” isn’t just some normal name.

Shemihaza is in actuality the EMPEROR OF CREATION, is one of the Sol and also one of the three FOUNDERS OF THE LITERAL ORDER. She was one of the three members of the GRIGORI which are also the supreme advisors of the True Cross Order.

In short, she’s basically one of the three cloaked people that you always see sitting upwards in the stands while people are getting judged by law underneath them.

After her body got crystallized, she became a tree and now currently overlooks the land of EI which is also known as the garden of Amahara.

So she basically turned into a holy sanctuary.

Now that we got reminded how much of a big deal she is, let’s get back to Shiemi.

THEIR FREAKING POWERS LOOK EXACTLY THE SAME AND THEY HAPPEN TO HAVE THE SAME NAME.

So I’ll ask anyone again.

How in the hell did none of her classmates know about this before or haven’t at least managed to make some kind of connection?????

You’re telling me that the most knowledgeable students which are Bon, Izumo, and Koneko haven’t noticed some kind of pattern with Shiemi??

He has known her far longer than anyone else and even HE hasn’t noticed any weird vibes she gives off????

I don’t know about you, but if I was in Yukio’s place, I would’ve actually found it sus that a blonde girl whose name sounds closely similar to Shemihaza, has summoning powers that look a lot like the Shemihaza’s, looks nothing like her mom, doesn’t have a dad, and lives in the official exorcist shop.

Like bruh.

The only people who I’m okay for not saying anything about Sheimi’s weird case with Shemihaza are Shima, Rin and Mephisto.

I’m fine with Shima not knowing anything about the Shiemi case because he deliberately wants to ignore any important things of the True Cross and just wants to have fun. So the thought of him knowing anything that might relate her and Shemihaza together would be thrown out of the window for this guy. However, if he got assigned to spy on Shiemi then yeah he would’ve probably found out about her.

I’m also okay with Rin not saying anything cuz he’s a dumbass when it comes to studying or knowing things about the Order in general. So he wouldn’t have been able to know what was up with her in the first place even if he tried really hard. Oh yeah and even if he miraculously suspected her to be something far more than she says she is, I bet he’d find no hint anywhere despite the fact that the literal answer (Shemihaza) would be right under his nose. He’s the type to ignore huge hints until someone points them out for him.

And it would be obvious for me to be fine with Mephisto not saying anything about the matter cuz that guy already knew and is not spilling the beans yet simply for the sake of waiting for the right moment to finally reveal to them.

Our iconic weeb just loves suspense.

The same thing could be said for Amaimon.

This guy already knew but had to be sure if she was the real deal (and by that, I mean if she was worthy to be related to Shemihaza or some shit like that).

As for anyone else, I’m not too sure.

People like Shura and the other teachers are hard to tell if they knew or not.

But like it’s pretty easy to believe that they should know about the prestige future that Shiemi would eventually have???

And yet not??

Cuz they seem to act like idiots when it comes to her safety??? And they treat her like a random girl studying at their school instead of you know…

LITERALLY BEING A PART OF SHEMIHAZA HERSELF.

You’re a random student of the True Cross Academy studying to become a full fledged exorcist.

Your class is composed of a weird looking kid (who is not a kid) with a puppet for a hand, two girls with one looking as bland as a potato and the other one looking like a breed between a fox and a dog, a guy with a rooster for a head, a pink haired dude, a baldy with glasses who gets all the ladies and a lazy disappointment whose twin brother is your literal teacher.

One day, you meet a new student in your class and she’s a girl who lives somewhere on the campus of the True Cross Academy and has been living with her mother who also happens to be the owner and shopkeeper at the Exorcist shop for exorcists.

She has a strangely strong spirit which can transform her tamer into a LITERAL GIANT

or a freaking FOREST to use as some kind of barrier to save her friends from Rin’s blue flames depending on when she wants to.

Her name also strangely resembles the name “Shemihaza” which you are aware that her name literally represents one of the Grigoris.

Like come on man. This is so stupid.

The exposed hints are all on the surface.

There is no layer to hide them.

At this point, Shiemi could literally be dangling a flyer on her forehead saying “hey look at me! I’m related to Shemihaza!” and no one would bat an eye at that cuz they’d be unable FOR SOME REASON to know what she means by that.

Like it has come to a point where even SHE has tried hiding that secret to everyone when she found out because of her mom telling her the truth. And we all know Shiemi sucks at hiding secrets but she’s surprisingly really good at keeping that one.

But all of a sudden, when she states that she gave up on being an exorcist suddenly everyone’s on her ass suspecting that something’s wrong and that she might have a secret she ain’t sharing???

Gurl no, the time where her friends had to care was when she wasn’t hiding a secret.

When she wasn’t aware about her divine roots.

As soon as you see her you can immediately tell that she even LOOKS like the people who stay at the holy sanctuary made by Shemihaza. She has so many similar physical traits as them that you would just look really stupid if you were in the same class as hers and have NEVER noticed some kind of ressemblance between the two.

If there was one thing that would make me not admit that Bon, Koneko and Izumo were actually smart, then it would be this.

The fact that they haven’t ONCE suspected that Shiemi might have been something more than just their classmate/friend before even she realized it herself.

The only one who was ever good at hiding his power was Rin until he had to expose himself due to Amaimon being a pain in the ass.

RIN. That’s it. He’s the only one that made any sense. Unlike Shiemi, his fangs and pointed ears in his human form could have been explained since it’s not unusual for people to have pointed teeth or non-rounded ears. His immediate decision to fighting alone could be easily explained by the fact that he’s just a reckless stupid guy or because he prefers fighting alone.

Shiemi was normal from the start but slowly gave off weird suspicious vibes in class and during missions. (Also how come no one tried asking her about her dad? He’s clearly not in the picture. Izumo and her became close so why not just ask her about her father? She could’ve asked Shiemi when they had that sleepover that one time.)

This is a two year time skip, they are all fresh 18 year old adults, gods, they grow up so fast T.T, asghshss.

This chapter is a mess, so many things to discuss but dear goodness, I loved it!

Hey I'm the person who sent you the demon Yukio prompt! Anyway I just finished reading a short but cute manga called "Wolf in the Flower Shop" and I think how the male leads meet is hilarious. So basically ml A is on a late errand and ends up strolling through a park, admiring the flowers. Ml B, who had been drinking with friends and is drunk, was wandering through the same park to clear his head. B sudden sees A gazing at the flowers under the moonlight and is so awestruck that he runs up to A and just says "3000 for a night!". A is understandably confused and scared and just runs off. They meet again the next day cause their respective little brother/nephew go to the same daycare.

So here's what I'm imagining now: Liu is at True Cross to deal with some rampant demon and hears about the mysterious nephilim twins who somehow charmed evey lower level demon within a 20 mile radius. Liu is just "nephilim and getting along with demons . . . yuck". Then, after an assignment, Shura manages to drag him to a bar and he gets smashed cause he's such a lightweight. Shura thinks this is funny and doesn't notice when he wanders off. So Liu ends up in the same field where Rin, Yukio, and Shiemi released the trapped souls from the train. He instantly narrows his sight on Yukio majestically smiling under the moonlight with his mismatched eyes and pointy teeth and falls hard. Liu runs up to Yukio, grabs his hands, and just says "marry me". That's when Shura shows up, knocks Liu over the head, and walks off with him. Everyone else is confused. The next day, (Liu doesn't remember anything) he ends up officially meeting the twins and tries to half-heartedly taunt them (but can't cause he still thinks Yukio is too pretty) and Rin just responds by telling him what he did last night. Liu is shocked, embarrassed, and immediately onto Shura for not stopping/telling him. Yukio just laughs at this and Liu is just like "aw fuck". Cue ensuing love story between a twink exorcist and an emo nephilim

This sounds SO COOL and I need fanfic with it now?? I have so much more I want to say to this but I don't have the braincells for it right now?? BUT!!

My favorite thing about this idea is that this time YUKIO is the one to remember!

I think we need more of Shura and Liu being chaotic besties.... genereally. The world needs it.

I've seen this opinion pop up a lot recently, and I really need people to take another look at what was happening in that arc and afterwards.

Rin is powerful, yes. Rin has a lot of boom and NO IDEA HOW TO USE IT. Rin has gone toe to toe with his twin and been defeated by him time and time again. Rin is not smart and not analytical and Shiemi was able to keep him at bay when he was unsealed and she was exhausted with a single familiar.

Rin is powerful, but he is not a god in this universe and he is weaker because he is not learned and impulsive. Renzou knocks him on his ass without even throwing a lot of effort into it, and we know Renzou doesn't even really train. We haven't seen the others go out against him, but I imagine they could do a lot more than anticipated.

Furthermore on the Impure King thing, because I'm so tired of people not acknowledging this very important scene from chapter 39.

Rin can't handle even the lowest of the kings who has a portion of his power bound by Shemihaza. Rin is not hot stuff yet. He destroyed the Impure King with direct and necessary intervention from Ucchusma. He could not have done that alone. At the current point in the manga, probably, but even still I don't think he'd have the control to manage that extent of manipulation. None of the demons he has faced has he faced alone. He has defeated none of them but his own on his own.

We see Rin get possessed after the Impure Arc too. We see Rin get swallowed by zombies. We see Rin get the sword broken and be devoured by it. Rin gets his ass kicked by Yukio all the time. Rin gets his ass kicked by Shura. Rin drops like a fly so damn many times against Hachiro it's played as a ha ha.

Rin has the ability to be a nuclear bomb of power, but he does not have control and does not have a ton of knowledge on how to manipulate that until later in the manga, and even still he struggles.

That's not even touching on what other skills the exwires and exorcists are bringing. Shiemi and Izumo are really talented tamers and Rin has Kuro, but he can't summon demons and hasn't so far. Rin has, as far as we've seen, not managed any arias. Konekomaru and Ryuuji kick his ass all over the place with that. Yukio and his dragoon self has bested Rin multiple times. Renzou is the only knight his age we see, and even Renzou has beaten him. They are all immensely talented, usually in different ways from them, and comparing Rin's flames to their skill set is missing what weakness Rin has and what strengths they have.

There is a vast difference between having brute strength and having any idea how to use it. That is what Rin works on, and maintaining control of the flames and the demon so that they don't consume him. The others far out pace him on knowledge of their skills and obtaining their own mastery of their chosen subjects.

Hot Take time, Rin was able to solo his entire class by the time Kyoto got done and he had acceptable control over his flames. Yes, even Yukio. The only reason he seems "weaker" is because Rin just holds back most of his power 99% of the time.

Let’s talk about the return of Ao no Exorcist (ch133.1 & ch133.2)!

After a long hiatus, it came back last month! :D And I have some thoughts to share!

Rin as a diversion

To start with, it really struck me that Rin doesn’t seem emotionally involved in this fight. Not only does he see himself just as a diversion, but also, he doesn’t seem particularly invested in fighting against Satan, despite “kicking Satan’s butt” being his initial motivation back when the story started.

On the one hand, it shows his growth after he visited the path and realized that Satan’s madness, Yuri’s and Fujimoto’s deaths were more complicated than just being Satan’s fault. It also shows that he knows he’s now one part of the team designed to take Satan’s down and that he has to focus on his role. 

On the other hand, this detachment might hide how conflicted he is about his own demon self? A part of him that he recently managed to tame and cage (using this side of his when he decides to), whereas the answer probably lies more into these two natures within him learning to coexist peacefully. 

To be honest Rin kinda worries me in this fight, I hope he doesn’t pull a Yukio, now that Yukio’s doing better. Speaking of which...

Yukio’s openly trusting his allies

I AM SO HAPPY! I had predicted that Shura’s presence in the group was mostly so that Yukio would have someone he would accept to rely on and I’m even happier that Shura jokes around that he must be sick to admit he’s not 100% fine, all the while openly recognizing that mentally he’s doing better. 

I love how mature she’s being despite the scene being hilariously crafted and I’m glad they had this genuine moment of apologizing to each other when Yukio, in particular, used to be openly angry at Shura for sometimes messing with him. 

On top of relying on Shura, he also respected Neuhaus’ analysis of the situation, despite Neuhaus once being his enemy, which again shows that he’s doing a lot better, allowing himself to work with his allies instead of deciding to carry the burden solo (especially meaningful, considering that he thought Satan’s comeback was his fault, until Lightning refused to blame him). 

Keep it up, Yukio! Hopefully, you’re going to be fine, my boy. ^3^

Lucy, Shima and the black flame

First of all, can I just say that Lucy is a true icon, as the older badass female warrior having the loyalty of black flame’s dragon demon? 

TBH, I already addressed in the past that a lot of girl characters in Ao no Exorcist are given roles that would usually be given to guys in other Shonen series, which is a huge reason I’m so fond of Kato-sensei’s writing. 

Between Shiemi who was “the main girl” but who turned out to be the mysterious ace no one knows the truth about, Shura as the mentor, Yuri as an intelligent woman who defeated her abuser and now Lucy, an older lady, as the badass warrior in charge, I enjoy that we’re allowed to see women being considered as strong and skilled as men. 

I have no idea about the consequences of Satan’s attack on her...

...but hopefully she’s going to survive, because she’s way too awesome to pass away right now (also still want her at some point to say to the twins that they “truly are Yuri Egin’s kids”). 

That being said, now that she’s possibly injured and thus out of the fight...

...Maybe Shima will be forced to take over, wielding another strong demon kin of the black flame category, seeing how useful they are against the Illuminati?

Satan’s an ass who deserves to be sealed away

Though I would just like to point out that, since destroying everything but his vessel is “the greatest joy”, clearly it’s yet another proof that Satan never loved Yuri and only saw her as relevant as long as she could provide him with whatever he wanted. 

Again, that’s nothing new, but since there used to be some Satan/Yuri shippers in the fandom, I always love to point out that he’s a textbook abusive asshole who deserves to go down. :D

Finally, let’s talk about the greatest disaster to happen soon

AKA, "Shadow must bow before the strength of light”...

Truly, I loved Arthur’s incredible show of strength at the end of the chapter. However, if that doesn’t scream that he’s going to become a wonderful and strong vessel for Lucifer, at this point I don’t know what does. :/

I’d like to point out that for now the battle seems to be in favor of the True Cross’ Knights only because the first defeat is near, probably when Lucifer manages to possess Arthur and very probably beat the shit out of our dear King of Time who will then lose his vessel (how symbolic, when Arthur openly hates Mephisto). 

At this point, Shiemi will probably become unable to seal Satan away without Mephisto, leading to the True Cross Order failing for now as the Illuminati will stand strong with both Satan and Lucifer inhabiting almost invulnerable vessels. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Prepare for the worst, fellow AnE fans, it will come soon... (actually I can’t wait). :D

I'm curious, with your Love at Frost sight story I have a few questions (18+ish)

We all know that as soon as Yukio is gone for a overnight mission Ruuji and Rin are gonna take advantage of it and enjoy their alone time together.. Now we all know the boys are like soulmates and it would probably be very hard for them to not end up sporting a mating bite...

So my question is, how long do you think the boys could hide the fact they bonded? And who do you think finds out first and how?

I hope you know, the series of questions you sent me yesterday have made my entire day. I'm so happy you like my story enough to come up with all these scenarios/questions, and I shall attempt to answer them all (without any spoilers ;) )

Okay, for this sort of scenario, they manage it for:

Three days from Yukio. Missions make him tired and he blames that on not noticing it.

Ten minutes from Konekomaru. The sharp-eyed Aria notices everything, and really, the duo are somehow even more sappy after it happens.

Shima mentions it offhandedly at one point, and they're not sure when he figured it out.

Shura learns it a day after Yukio and gives them both a punch in the shoulder. (Right over the sore shoulders.)

Lewin finds out half an hour after Ryuuji shows up, and he is endlessly curious because he's never got to investigate one up close.

Tatsuma and Torako find out from Konekomaru, but it would take them less than hour if they were around the couple.

Mephisto is the reason Yukio was on the mission, so of course he knows, lol.

a/n: i apologize for Luci’s hc being kinda written in general! as i’ve said, i tried to write it not too long, but after amaimon i went overboard, especially with Yukio xD also, regarding Shiro’s hc: the timeline is set when the twins are 3-4 years old, so he’s quite young there. under “read more” due to the length!

Lucifer:

suspicious. VERY suspicious. resists the urge to squint at his "son", so he just keeps staring at him without saying a word and blinks occasionally. even if he looks similar to him or you, he still doesn’t trust it; he might be as well a clone that’s pretending to be his child.

actually thinks it’s a prank pulled by Mephisto, since his child mentioned time traveling.

he believes it’s his actual child once he mentions something that only Lucifer and you know - for example, the initial names you planned to give to your child.

very interested in his son’s own interests - he’d ask a lot of questions and smile proudly if he announced he helps his father reach his goal; when his child doesn’t follow his steps, he just nods and asks how his studies are going (because, quite frankly, I don't think he’d force his child to join Illuminati and do stuff related to it)

as the conversation goes, he starts to notice the features he’s inherited from his mother - both in his personality and looks. it makes him feel excited to be a parent, knowing his strong genes allowed his beloved to also create a beautiful child together.

Amaimon:

confused, a lot, but he won’t question it. he just does his thing, and to be honest, doesn’t care much.

that being said, he starts to care when he realizes his so-called “child” is following him everywhere and trying to eat chips from his bag. for some reason, he lets his son take a handful of chips, staring at him and squinting menacingly.

when his son is done eating, they both just look at each other with the same blank expression.

it clicks in his head once his kid mentions your favorite brand of sweets like it’s nothing; Amaimon looks shocked for a minute, then his usual, bored expression returns.

unlike Luci, he doesn’t ask much questions, but enjoys hanging out with him as long as possible. Amai notices his son’s personality is like his, but his appearance is exactly like yours.

he’s honestly more open to the idea of having a child; In a way that he doesn’t actually mind them existing, but when they grow up, he’ll have another person to do his shenanigans with. once he gets past the diaper stage, he’s fine.

Shiro:

literally he just

when he looks back at his son, he sees him lighting a cigarette.

“well, shit.”

Shiro looks at the exact same copy of him. both in personality, and appearance as well. and it terrifies him. yet, the only reaction he lets out is a loud laugh. (thank god that “copy” has been made naturally..)

again, like Luci, thinks that Mephisto is making fun of him.

his son, on the other hand, isn’t laughing. he looks quite unsure and almost sad; that’s when he says, “it’s good to see you, old man. it’s been a while.” he doesn’t end the sentence though, wanting to say he’s glad to see his father after a few years of seeing his name only on a gravestone.

Shiro, despite being quite some time away from death, understands what his son meant to say nonetheless; he then decides to spend some time with him, asking how things are going in the future. His son isn’t very willing to talk, but he tells him in a calm voice, “there have been some bumps here and there. but I’m fine now. they’re fine, too. so you don't have to worry about that two devils, either.” and smiles genuinely; it makes Shiro’s heart melt completely because he recognizes that smile - the smile he gets to see on your beautiful face every day.

when his son was gone, he still yelled at Mephisto. Poor demon, it wasn’t his fault this time, actually.

Rin:

opens the door and screams. the person on the other side also screams. Rin’s so shocked and confused he might pass out; he manages to stay on his feet, though. (even though,, he doesn’t know why he screamed in the first place)

when he calms down a bit, he immediately notices that the person standing in the doorway looks kinda similar to him - he’s almost as tall as he is, but his eyes and hair differ a little.

the person greets themselves with the same last name, then breaks the news - “i’m your son! nice to meet you, dad! you can call me by my name or Shiro, that’s a nickname I’ve received from my friends!” he says happily, scratching nervously the back of his neck.

Rin’s expression softens a little; he sees the way he acts and is almost sure the kid is telling the truth. He invites him inside and softly closes the door.

Meanwhile Rin tried to ask if he wants a drink, his son interrupted him whilst taking a photo frame in his hands and yelling excitedly, “oh man! that’s mom?! you have a good taste, dad!” Rin just blinked at him, mumbling a slight “thanks?”.

after the initial shock has passed, his son told him a little about himself and generally, they shared some good time together. that is, until his son asked if he knows what happened to auntie Shura.

Rin tilted his head to the side, his white locks tickling his eyes; he said a confused “no..? is it... bad...?” his worry has started to risen.

“well... she got pregnant with triplets! or.. will... get...?”

Rin choked on his spit, to say the least.

Yukio:

Yukio’s been silently enjoying his coffee, quite early in the morning. After all, that’s what he deserves after that entire bullshit with satan and his eye.

Since the order allowed him to take some time off, he decided he’s gonna dedicate it for healing - both mentally and physically.

As the clock showed 8am, the sun rays hit his face harshly through the curtains - he decided to go to a store to buy some of the products you’ll use to make breakfast later.

He felt uneasy going to the store. He felt something was not right... but he ignored it, thinking it’s probably still because of the previous events. Going through the aisles and taking his sweet time, he grew even more confused, seeing that most of the products he was gonna buy is missing - they couldn’t have bought everything. Sure, lots of people left the store when he walked in, but it’s barely 8.30am.

Leaving the store with just a few products, it was hard to say he wasn’t annoyed. That’s when he felt someone tapping his shoulder, making him ultra-aware of his surroundings.

“Are ya lookin’ for this?” another male voice asked, smirking, “Sheesh, you probably look really annoyed, and I haven’t even seen your face!”

Yukio turned around, facing a male that quite resembled him - the same height, build, the only thing he was missing was glasses. Yukio, being annoyed as it is, wanted to politely brush him off, but he was interrupted mid-sentence.

“I’m Okumura. Your son, to be exact,” his features softened, eyes gazing at the pavement he stood on, “I got this stuff for you. This is what mom always needs for breakfast, right?” the male smiled gently, handing him the grocery bag. Yukio took it hesitantly.

“I know it’s all so weird, but, do you wanna maybe go on a walk with me? I like the weather today,” he fixed his [hair color]-colored locks, smiling brightly, “and I like spending time with you, dad.”

Well, Yukio’s walk to the store’s certainly gotten more interesting than he originally thought.

“Hey. Rin. Get up!” 

Rin bats the hand ruffling his hair aside as he burrows into his pillow. 

“Rin! Hey. Come on, they’re letting you out. It’s already ten in the morning.” 

Rin squints his eyes open. “What?” 

Shura is standing over him, holding a clipboard in one hand. “Last night, we saw the airport demon use flames. That means you didn’t lose control. Somehow, it can use Satan’s flames too.” She crosses her arms as she looks over his pile of snacks. “Then, there’s no point in keeping you locked up here anymore.” 

“Oh.” Rin yawns, blinking as Kuro crawls over his stomach to greet Shura. “What happened, then? Is the Legion still looking for it?” 

“Yeah.” Shura tosses him a trash bag and a yakisoba bun. “We’re doing twelve-hour shifts. I have to head back soon.” She pats Kuro on the head twice and walks off. “Clean this up and get back to work. I saw Yukio come in this morning, but he’s sick or something. He told me to buy you food.” 

Rin sits straight up just as the door shuts. “What?” 

He crams all of his things into the trash bag, signs a bunch of forms, and jogs over to headquarters. One of the new inspectors, Takeda, briefs him on what was done yesterday on a case tracking a phantom taxi. Rin really doesn’t remember anything about that. 

“What about that case with Ishikawa Fumi?” Rin asks as they head upstairs. 

Takeda flips a few pages on her clipboard. “I’m not sure. I believe it’s been assigned to someone else.” 

“Okay. Yeah, don’t worry about it,” Rin says. “I’ll go check in with my other teams. Thanks for briefing me.” 

Takeda smiles and nods. 

Still, the day goes on, and no one comes to talk to him about Ishikawa’s case. He’s busy trying to supervise two teams cleaning up the airport, the phantom taxi, and something about a mansion infested with coal tars that the owner refuses to get cleaned. 

It kind of sucks. When he was working mostly out of the Vatican, he got to go on cool missions. Being the only Arc Knight based in Japan leaves him with all these supervising tasks. The only good thing about it is that he can stay close to home. 

Rin. Rin? Kuro winds circles around his legs as Rin reads a report. Let’s eat lunch. Isn’t it lunchtime?

“Oh, okay.” Rin smiles, reaching down to pick him up. It’s already past noon. He hadn’t even realized. 

The cafeteria is crowded, so he hunches at his desk as he eats and manages to look into what has been going on with Ishikawa’s case. 

For some reason, the page for exorcists assigned to the case is blank. Maybe they haven’t updated it yet. If nothing changes by the end of today, he’ll check with the admin staff.

The last report says they asked the family a few more questions about who knew they were going to the charity concert. The police have been running background checks and things. None of the traffic cameras in the area showed Ishikawa leaving the hall. 

Also, a lady went missing at the airport, like those victims in the portal case. Somehow, Yukio was the one who ended up interviewing the witness, even though today is his first official day back. Weird.

Rin should probably be doing a better job supervising who is working on the case and when, but he was locked up for a whole day and a half, so it’s been messy.

Still, somehow, that lady who went missing at the airport wasn’t an exorcist. That has to be important. 

Where is Yukio anyway? Rin hasn’t seen or heard from him all day.

You were trying to fend for yourself as you noticed demons coming from every which way. You knew the cram school did their best to have everyone prepared for situations like and you couldn’t lie, you were a lot stronger than you looked but one of the demons had grabbed when you weren’t paying attention and held you captive. 

“Rin, RIN!” You screamed as you tried get his attention. It was a call to Rin but you were trying to see if anyone was paying attention. “YUKIO! BON!” Once Yukio turned around, it was too late, you were too far gone for them to catch you. They needed assistance and fast. 

Rin was the last one to realize that you were taken but once he realized that his omega was taken, it was a sight that no one had seen before. His face contorted to anger, sadness, confusion, and every other heightened emotion. 

“Relax-” Yukio started to say as he noticed his brother turn to him like he was ready to pounce him. Yukio knew he just needed Shura to defeat the demons before it was too late and they found you dead somewhere. “I’ll contact Shura and I’m leaving it up to all of you to watch Rin while I’m gone.” 

Bon knew that it was really up to him and Nemu to try and calm Rin down. It was useless nonetheless because they knew that Rin was your alpha and you stuck to his side at all times. You were strong, no one doubted that, but they had never seen how angry an alpha got when separated from their omega.

You entered the cram school a two months after classes started. Yukio knew of you enrolling a few weeks ago but what got him up in arms was the fact that you were one of the only two omegas in the class. Konekomaru being the other. The rest of the class were betas and alphas so it wasn’t too much of a struggle until you came.

When your first day at the cram school came, it was nerve wracking to say the least. You felt the auras of the alphas in the class and you took a deep breath before you opened the door. 

All eyes immediately fell on you and while you were nervous, the alpha energy seemed to calm down a bit. It wasn’t threatening and if you were being honest, it was comforting in a way. 

“Everyone, this is ( your name ). She’s the new student in the cram school and while she did enroll a little late, welcome her warmly.” Yukio said as he ushered you to your seat. “I’ll have one of the students catch you up on work after class and yes it will be extra credit for whoever volunteers.” 

They all perked up at the news but the one that caught everyone off guard was Rin who immediately volunteered. “Dude, are you sure you’re even smart enough to give her lessons?” Shima taunted. Rin jumped which caused Yukio to smack his desk with a ruler. “Rin if you’re interested, I’ll look over your notes and go from there.” The class snickered as Yukio began his lesson. 

Rin couldn’t help but continue to look over at you. He felt attraction like this one time before this and it was with Shiemi. When he realized that she wasn’t interested, he gave up and now you showed up and flipped his alpha instincts upside down again. 

“Hey, I’m Rin.” He wrote down in a note. He slid it next to you and you quietly opened it. You smiled and wrote back. “I’m ( your name ), it’s nice to meet you Rin.”

Throughout the entire lecture, the both of you were passing notes. He would crack a joke every so often and he was glad that it was just passing notes. Rin knew that if he had to actually speak to you, he would be a flustered mess.

Once class finished for the lunch break, you grabbed your wallet from the book bag and walked out. Rin immediately ran after you and managed to grab your shoulder before you turned the corner. 

“Hey!” You said as he gave you a sheepish smile. “What’s up?” 

He rubbed the back of his neck nervously. “I was wondering if you wanted to eat lunch together?” He held his breath as you nodded yes. Rin smiled as he took you to his favorite spot. 

From that day forward, Rin would be by your side and whenever someone from the non-cram school was around you, especially if they were an alpha, he would try to make them scram. It usually worked and Yukio knew this was another thing he had to worry about with Rin. 

It took Rin a few months to finally ask you out but once he did, he immediately scented you. He knew it was a huge step to take but he couldn’t take it anymore. The two of you didn’t have the same non-cram school classes and he didn’t know what was going when you weren’t around him. 

During your heats and Rin’s ruts, it was tough. You wanted nothing more than to welcome Rin into your nest but you were nervous so when the day finally came, Rin was happy beyond belief. He couldn’t believe you were finally letting him into your most intimate space.

Rin watched as Shura and a few others walked into the scene and Yukio gave them the rundown. He was pacing back and forth but he couldn’t help but notice that they kept looking over at him. It looked like Shura was holding something and Rin wanted nothing more than to tell them to hurry the hell up and get the plan going. 

He noticed Shura give Yukio the thing she was holding. Once Yukio got closer to Rin, he tackled him to the ground. “YUKIO, WHAT THE FUCK, LET ME GO!” Yukio held him down as he handcuffed his own brother while Shura put a muzzle over him. 

“Rin, we need to save her quickly and safely. With your emotions at an all time high, we don’t need her coming back even more injured or you getting hurt during the process.” Rin screamed as Yukio tried bringing him to the truck that Shura provided but he couldn’t get too far as Rin was thrashing around and screaming so he could be released. It took Shura, Yukio, Bon, and even Shima to get him loaded into the truck and buckled into the belts. 

“It’s for the safety of everyone involved that you don’t come on this mission.” 

Yukio couldn’t help but feel for his twin brother. While he had never felt the connection between an alpha and an omega, he could feel the heartbreaking feeling from Rin. 

They had someone watch the truck as they went to retrieve you. Rin continued thrash around the truck and the person watching over Rin felt like he was going to explode at any second. Any alpha in a ten mile radius heard his scream. It was the scream that made any alpha feel for him. He was separated from his omega and that was a position no alpha wanted to be in. Any omega within the radius of your presence heard your whimpers and cries. 

Rin couldn’t even fathom to think what those sickening demons were doing to you. He need to be next to you and cover you in his scent. He was on the verge of releasing his flames and he knew that if he did that, Rin feared that he wouldn’t be able to come back from it. 

Even though people knew the connection between an alpha and an omega, they didn’t know the dangers that came from it. An alpha could go into a state of insanity if he didn’t have his omega and Rin was on the brink of getting there. 

Just as Rin was about to break from the chains, what felt like years later, the doors of the truck opened. Yukio looked at his brother and felt like crying right there. He never seen his own twin brother this lost in his life. Sweat, tears, and even spots of blood were running down his arms and face. 

“She’s safe.” Yukio managed to say as he noticed Rin finally break free from the chains and belts. He ran out of the truck and Yukio plus Bon and Shura tackled him down to the floor. “She needs to be evaluated before you can even think of seeing her.” 

Rin with all the power in his body broke through everyone and sprinted to where he thought he could find you. Yukio and Bon chased after him but by the time they tackled him to the ground again, Rin seen you. 

“RIN CALM DOWN!” Bon screamed as he felt like if he pulled Rin’s arms back anymore, he was going to actually break them. “Rin, you’ll see her in a few minutes. Calm the hell down before Shura gets the chance to sedate you and then you for sure won’t see her.” 

For the first time all day, Rin actually listened. Bon and Yukio continued to hold him to the ground as they waited for the people working on you to give them the cue to let Rin go. 

Again, it felt like Rin waited for hours to finally see you but when they screamed to Yukio that Rin was free to go, they didn’t even get the chance to finish the sentence before Rin ran towards you at full speed. He knew that he should’ve been more careful with you considering he didn’t know the full extent of your injuries but as soon as he got into arms reach, he tackled you into a hug. He immediately started scenting you as he noticed everyone leaving the small tent. 

“WHAT HAPPENED? DID THEY TOUCH YOU? WHERE? ARE YOU SERIOUSLY INJURED?” Rin didn’t even give you the chance to respond as he continued to scent you. “YOU’RE OKAY, YOU’RE WITH ME NOW.” 

You nodded as you let him continue to scent you. You knew it was a rough few hours with for the both of you and you just let him do whatever he needed to do as you silently wiped your tears from relief. 

“I’m glad you’re okay.” You whispered to Rin as you managed to get him to calm down for a second. “We’re both fine and we can try to get back to normal.” 

Rin nodded as he wiped the final tear that ran down your face. “Okay, as long as you’re okay, I’ll be fine.” The rest of the night was the both of you wrapped in a blanket and no one dared to disturb the both of you. They had seen Rin angry before but never like this and if everyone was being honest, they never wanted to see Rin like that again.

it feels like everyday post-reveal that the cram school class learns something new about lycanthropes, only to have it followed up by the asterisk of *only applies to rin actually.

yuri is the one who helped rin unlock partial transformation.

in the early days of rin attending high school, it's not an uncommon sight to find him skipping class in the demon farm. he goes to find a sunny spot to sleep in and just passes out.

rin's knowledge of demons comes entirely from yuri, so it's very eclectic in what he actually knows. fatal verses? nah, he doesn't know any of those. but he can tell you about their eating habits in depth! did you know there's a type of a demon that possesses dung beetles whose poop makes for a great fertilizer?

yukio makes an offhand joke about visiting kyoto tower being an 'enrichment activity' for rin. it catches on.

rin: hey, do you guys want to go to ponchan after school?

konekomaru: hm. i suppose it would be an important enrichment activity for you.

rin: are we still doing that joke!?

todo: (trying to influence rin by remarking about the tragedy of wolves in the zoo living in cages their whole lives)

rin: are you stupid? they fucking love it there.

todo: hm. we may have to try a different tactic.

(local lycanthrope can understand wolves. and dogs. foxes confused and befuddle him, however.)

rin, after the umpteenth cat runs away from him: at least I have kuro and konekomaru....

yuri and shiro have never actually told the twins about shura's contract with hachiro. they've always planned to, but they've never gotten around to it.

in the aftermath of that arc, rin starts hiding his tail and ears again. when questioned, he laughs it off with the explanation that there might be more people who can randomly see them like godaiin. he has to be careful!

(he's really hiding them so they can't betray his thoughts.)

(it's only after the fact that they realize rin started hiding them right after the wild beast attacks began.)

annoying as hell things about your twin brother being a lycanthrope: sleep schedule? what's that? it's four AM and rin's wide awake. yukio is secretly grateful when they move into the dorms and rin's eccentric sleep schedule is now somebody else's problem.

meanwhile, godaiin, the deepest sleeper on earth, does not even notice if his roommate leaves via the window at 2 AM in the morning. god himself could not wake this man.

(the exwire training camp is just the other cram school students encountering rin repeatedly in the middle of the night. fujimoto-sensei. does rin ever sleep.

Here’s one I dug up from a forum post I made long ago! It’s a great little story, lol

The story is set around the time the Angelic Legion is formed. Shura is enjoying her day off when Angel calls her and says they have an urgent meeting she has to come to. She grudgingly goes. The "urgent" meeting is actually Angel treating Shura and Lightning to dinner/drinks at a fancy restaurant so they can discuss the VERY IMPORTANT BUSINESS of naming the new team that they've all just joined. Shura immediately regrets coming. Angel thinks that "Angelic Legion" would be a fantastic name. Shura thinks that'll happen over her dead body. She starts trying to think of ways to gently persuade Angel to come up with something less embarrassingly stupid. She looks to Lightning, the only other intelligent life in the room, for help. But Lightning gives, like, negative one million f**ks about the issue, and he even starts egging Angel on sarcastically. So you have a few pages that boil down to: Angel: *talks about how important it is to have a flashy name that will raise morale* Lightning: *"compliments" Angel's name ("That's just like you. So chuunibyou.")* Angel: What does "chuunibyou" mean? Lightning: It's basically slang for awesome. Shura: *slams back another drink to drown out the suffering* Shura manages to escape from this conversation when Yukio calls about something and she steps out of the room to answer. She goes YUKIO I HAVE A SERIOUS PROBLEM and tells him the whole story. When he's done trying not to laugh at her, he's like "why don't you just get him drunk and convince him to change it to some name you come up with?" and suggests that she move the party to some bar/izakaya where there's cheap hard liquor. She is kind of in awe of how matter-of-factly he says all this. So Shura's like okay as long as *I* stay sober I can fix this. YOU KNOW HOW THIS STORY ENDS. It ends with Shura waking up on the floor of her room with a terrible hangover and no memory of the previous night, looking over to see Lightning and Angel ALSO sleeping on the floor a little ways away surrounded by empty bottles, and getting Lightning's dramatic retelling of how she totally started fighting FOR the "Angelic Legion" name after they moved from the izakaya to her place and brought more booze. (Things started to go downhill at the izakaya after Lightning got his [very alcoholic] drink switched with Shura's drink [which was water in a sake cup, because Shura knows the staff of the bar and can ask for favors]. This may or may not have been an accident. FORGET MEPHISTO BEING LOKI, LIGHTNING IS THE REAL TRICKSTER GOD HERE) Shura tells all this to Yukio and Yukio does not stop laughing. (He also starts taking every chance he gets to say "Angelic Legion", much to Shura's dismay.)
