Hi friend! Hope your end of the year is going well, and that you're drinking enough water.

You said that your asks were open and empty, and yooo, do I have a few questions my ADHD brain forgot about. 😂

One, I remember seeing a couple posts from you about deities and entities, and I was curious about your general experience with how you connected with them. Don't want to pry, but curious about the process you went through. (It's my next subject of study after I finish a tarot project)

Two, what things (witchcraft related or not) do you like to do at the end of the year?

Three, what is your least favorite misconception about the witchcraft community, and why?

And four, favorite source (like a blog, yt channel, book) for spell, tips, etc?

This reads like more of a "get to know you" vs anything specific, doesn't it? 😅😂

Ooo, I'm gonna have a lot to stay here, so I'm gonna break out my fun post dividers that I make over on @jasper-graphics to help split things up!

How I connect with deities is interesting compared to all of the 101 posts I see about deity work. I build an altar, verbally introduce myself once, and then proceed as though they're definitely already there. I'll use divination such as tarot to interact with deities and interpret messages, because I fucking love tarot.

Other than that? As long as I feel like I'm getting a go-ahead, I'll just go ahead. If I don't, I'll thank them for their time and put things away - sometimes some of the stuff will go to other deities, but otherwise everything gets put in a box together in case I need to talk to or work with that deity in particular again.

I just fucking rest at the end of the year. I don't care about "preparing for the new year" or "saying good-bye to the old year" in any way. I just have to remind myself to use the right year for a good couple of months while I get used to the forward march of time.

Boring? Yes. Do I care? No.

I don't like any of the general ideas of the witchcraft community, even back when I was a witch. I don't care for people calling us all Wiccans, or all dark, or all "black magic users" (which is SUPER RACIST btw), or all soft and sweet, or that we all follow the Wheel of the Year...I just don't like stereotypes, even if they're "accurate" to myself or others.

That's why I'm a wizard, not a witch. I gave up on the whole thing because I was tired of having to scream not all witches at Generic Wicca Is Witchcraft Is Wicca Book #347.

🌟 I’m fairly certain that it’s widely accepted in the fandom that Jay’s a good cook.

I would imagine that he had to pick up the skill fairly early given the state of his childhood prior to the adoption.

Aside from having to feed himself, he also had to keep his ma fed, and dammit just because times were hard that didn’t mean that they couldn’t have small comforts.

He learned how to do the best he could with what little they had, and honestly? It was pretty damn good.

Between the errands that he ran for various folks in the neighborhood and his ahem—five-finger discount—he was usually able to put together an honest to goodness balanced meal at least once a week.

Grant it, a lot of it came out of boxes, bags, and cans, but a vegetable is a vegetable at the end of the day, right?

🌟 Once he moved into the Manor his skills only improved, what with having Alfie’s immense talent to glean from.

Definitely the type to be craving something at two in the am and make that shit regardless of how intricate it is. I mean, if he wants a rack of lamb and he’s got the means to make it then why the fuck not?

Though he’ll never admit to it aloud (unless he’s feeling especially soft), being the provider he is he’s always wanted to be able to give his family all the home cooked meals he never got, and he wants them to be good.

To that end he made sure to learn all that Alfred/Food Network/YT/dozens upon dozens of cookbooks had to teach him. If he doesn’t know how to make something just give him a few days and access to a recipe and I guaran-damn-tee you that he’ll have it mastered by the end of it all.

🌟 All that said, baking is probably his least favorite way to cook, meat-based dishes notwithstanding.

This mostly applies to desserts, tho a lot of breads are also on his side-eye list lol. And he hates most casseroles too, if he’s being completely honest. He finds them to be a bit too heavy/rich for his liking. But anyways…

🌟 In his opinion baked desserts are either too involved or not challenging enough.

For example: basic cookies/pies/cakes? Yeah, those are all delicious, but boring as hell to make.

But on the other hand if you make something a bit fancier like, say, ladyfingers, that takes way more precision than what he wants to put in tbh. And then you got shit like puff pastries where you gotta keep folding and freezing it and shit all just to get the right texture? Yeah—no.

And don’t even get him started on the decorating aspects. The intensity that he puts into gift wrapping manifests itself here too and honestly he doesn’t want to put himself through that esp. given the fact that he knows he’s not exactly the best at it.

I know this all sounds like it contradicts what I wrote above, but some people are just like that. They’ll make a whole ass seven course meal without batting an eye, but ask them what’s for dessert and they’ll tell you to go fuck yourself lmao.

🌟 Christmas, and more importantly you, are the exception to the rule, however.

If his doll wants to bake up some cookies then that’s damn well what the pair of you are going to do.

But don’t think he’s doing this solely to humor you and isn’t getting any enjoyment out of it. There are very few things that you do together that he doesn’t love by virtue of, well, your doing it together lol.

Between work/school/whatever other life things the pair of you got going on, domestic reprieves are few and far between. I personally canon Jay as being a big homebody, and shit like this? Yeah, he lives for it.

🌟 Luckily for you both he’s less far militant about this than the gift wrapping thing lol.

So long as there isn’t anything on the line and-or these cookies aren’t meant to go on display he’s able to dial back the intensity. He doesn’t want this to be anything but fun for you both.

It should be said, however, that he’s really adamant about getting accurate measurements. There will be no putting liquids in dry cups or vice versa in his house, no sir. In fact he’s more apt to use a scale if you’re making anything larger than a single batch; it’s just easier that way.

Anything meant to be given as a gift will probably be something really basic that doesn’t require any decoration outside of nice packaging (think homemade slice-and-bake type deals).

🌟 His favorite cookies to both eat and decorate are gingerbread men. Yeah, he’s basic like that.

He’s a big fan of warm, heavily spiced things, especially in the colder months, and gingerbread hits all the right notes for him.

On the production end it helps that they’re a p. basic cookie to make, and even easier to make pretty thanks to the cookie cutter. Likewise decorating them is a straight forward endeavor, but you also have the option of doing something a bit more elaborate if you so choose.

And the scent… *chef’s kiss*

If you can abide by it, he’ll definitely keep a few gingerbread scented candles around the house and occasionally light them throughout the year.

🌟 In that same vein gingerbread houses are also a thing—a very big thing, in fact.

They’re not the most practical decoration—never mind the vermin that they’re basically begging to move right the hell in—but something about them just screams ‘Christmas’ to him.

He doesn’t go in for those store bought kits, not when there are so many cool templates to be found online, and that’s saying nothing of what the two of you can dream up together.

Has certainly initiated a few fun competitions between you to see who could make the best creation. These are never serious, naturally, with the prizes being sweet and-or flirty things like winner gets x-amount of cuddles and kisses and the like which means there are no real losers to be had.

Ahhhh~ it’s so cute, y’all are so cute, I cannot…

🌟 Overall it’s a p. chill time. Naturally things get a bit more involved if you’re making the houses, but even then the vibe’s very ‘lo-fi winter mix’ lol.

Things never get too messy because who the fuck wants to clean that shit up? And in between batches you’ll be snacking on the scraps while you decorate and chill and just generally enjoy each other’s company—and if that isn’t that the very thing we all need in these trying times idk wtf is…

The Short Second Life of Gregory the Gingerbread Man || WC: ~400

You look on in mock horror as your man liberates a smiling cookie being of one of its signature—nay, sacred—decorations.

“‘Noooo! Not the gumdrop button!’” Your impersonation of Gingy leaves a lot to be desired, you’re sure, but it gets your building buddy to laughing so it’s all good.

For his part Jay continues to chuckle as he affixes the sugar-crusted treat to the trimming that runs along the roof of his larger creation. To call the thing a ‘gingerbread house’ would be an insult to all parties involved; it’s a gingerbread McMansion at the very least, one complete with a Berry Blue Jell-O pool and Isomalt picture windows. The not-so-little house is nearly nicer than your actual home, though the same cannot be said for the state of its tenants.

“Poor Gregory. I can’t believe you’re gonna do my mans dirty like that,” you continue on as you look over the defaced cookie. “It’s not like he was wearing much to begin with. With the buttons gone he may as well be naked! At the very least he’s been disgraced. How’s he supposed to look the rest of his ginger-family in the face now?”

“…Good point.”

Jay picks Gregory up then, and for a moment you think he’s gonna set him back to rights, but–

“Wow. You really just did that, huh? The buttons weren’t enough, you had to go and eat his legs too.”

“And his stomach, that’s the most important bit,” he tells you around his bite. “The little dude was living foul. Out here all half-dressed—that shit ain’t decent. We gotta think of the ginger-children if nothing else, babe.”

You snort out half a laugh at that, though his solution ignores several others that would’ve allowed Greg to live to see another day (i.e. replacing his buttons), but you don’t bother with pointing that out, especially since it looks like he’s gonna be adding the little drops to his cross hatching as well. Jay’s really going all in on this and you’re positive that before it’s even halfway complete you’ll have made another store run or five.

And as for Gregory, well… Better eaten than locked away in some gingerbread cell until The Rot sets in, you suppose.

@stormears: (I don’t care if you answer this publicly, it might be interesting to other users anyway, so go ahead)

Since you seem knowledgeable about FF7 and even Crisis Core, I thought I would try out a Crisis Core question on you. One kinda silly aesthetic thing and one about a CC character in the fandom.

I have NOT played Crisis Core, or the OG game, but I am open to spoilers. I feel like no matter what I learn, if Remake Part 2 is anything like Remake Part 1, there will be fun and surprises even if I know the story front to back.

So, I have NOT played Crisis Core and was wondering a few things about it. I saw a YT vid summarizing it a while back. It probably has no significance, but is there a reason or even a point in time when Sephiroth and Genesis started wearing their unique black and red coats instead of soldier uniforms? I’ve seen fanart of them and Angeal all wearing SOLDIER uniforms and hanging out as friends. From what I remember in the video, it’s not clear/I just don’t remember, if the three are actual FRIENDS or just friendly coworkers so to speak, who hang around each other because they are so far beyond the abilities and influence of other military men around them that they don’t relate to or interact with them.

But anyway, all three wearing the uniform may just be a fun fanon thing and perhaps Genesis and Sephiroth were never portrayed wearing it in canon, ever. The answer could simply be that the black coat is how Sephiroth was designed in the mid 90s so that’s all he ever wore, and the red coat is what they designed Genesis with in the mid 00’s so that’s all HE ever wore, and that’s that! But I’d be interested to know if my assumption is wrong, and they canonically were dismissing the standard uniform, and got away with wearing what they wanted because no one around them had the authority or balls to tell them what clothes to wear.

Next, if you played CC around the time it was new, do you think you can describe the fandom perception of Genesis? Because I first found a vague description of who he was, saw some cool fanart of him, and THEN came across YT comments about his poetry-reading and how he was a copy-paste design of a celebrity at the time who PAID to have his freaking face in an FF game and like…I get the impression people are annoyed by him or hate him or find him cringe-worthy and am afraid to dig deeper. Yes I will form my own opinion but I definitely feel some secondhand embarrassment for liking this guy okay and then getting this vibe that he’s hated on.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read my lengthy, non-shallow questions of “did Sephiroth wear a tanktop” and “do people besides me like the hot, poetry-spewing fire wizard” :)

Goodness, what a question! Hmm… It’s been a while for me with Crisis Core, but I believe in the actual game, all we know for sure is that Angeal and Genesis grew up in the same town. So we can assume they’re fairly close, but whether or not the two are actually friends with Sephiroth or just friendly co-workers I think is up for interpretation. With the focus so firmly on Zack’s POV, we don’t really see too much of their dynamic in-game.

Re: the costumes: There’s never a point where we see Sephiroth wearing the SOLDIER-issue tanktop and shoulder pauldrons (though his coat has pauldrons) but you can probably assume he wore one once upon a time, since he still wears the harness under the coat. I always headcanoned that the coat became his uniform as the General/war hero during the Wutai war, and the leather was so hot he took off the tanktop and never bothered to put it back on. (Definitely the actual reason is because Nomura designed his costume way back in 1997, and it’s become so iconic they didn’t want to change it for the prequel.)

I’m not sure if there’s a canon story behind Genesis’ coat. Since he’s got a rivalry with Sephiroth, it wouldn’t surprise me if he was designed with it to hint at that rivalry between them. Under the coat, though, he’s wearing a typical SOLDIER First’s uniform without the pauldrons. The cross-strapped harness and higher boots seem to be an alternate provided option for the SOLDIER First uniform; both he and Sephiroth wear the same.

As for the fandom perception of Genesis: Genesis first showed up as a cameo in a secret ending in Dirge of Cerberus, presumably to either tease a sequel game or be a cute in-joke between folks who knew Gackt had composed Dirge of Cerberus’ ending song. They used Gackt’s likeness for the in-joke. One of the producers really liked the character design, though, so when they decided to make Crisis Core instead of a Before Crisis port for the PSP, they asked Gackt if he’d be up for acting out Genesis in the prequel story. Gackt was all about it, and contributed a lot of creative ideas to the character.

A lot of FF fans dislike Genesis for the same reason any new prequel character gets hate: he’s not who they want to see. It’s like if you made a prequel series to Star Wars, introduced Anakin Skywalker, and then spent most of the story talking about a trade war until the last five minutes where suddenly Darth Vader happens. Genesis’ story copies a lot from Sephiroth’s, and the focus the game puts on him means we don’t get more time on things we really want to see: like Sephiroth’s descent into madness, or Zack and Cloud’s friendship both before and after Hojo. And he shows up during *scary music* Nibelheim, which is just blasphemy. We know how Nibelheim goes, and no poetry-spouting dramatic french man was at that party. ;) (People were pissed about Last Order changing things up, and that anime didn’t even have any new characters.)

(And yeah, some folks don’t like the poetry.)

Genesis has definitely got his share of fans, though. There are plenty of folks out there who find him just as hot and likable as you do – and you should never be embarrassed about what you like! Feel free to squee and gush over him as much as you want. You’ve got plenty of company!

fast forward to a 15-16 year old kennedy getting into their first relationship. this individual was older and exciting and for once in their #yung life, kennedy was being paid attention

felt important and pretty!

felt POWERFUL!

but they were being groomed and as soon as this boyf had kennedy wrapped around their finger with his charm and his wit, things turned toxic

it was hard for kennedy to piece together what was going on. they hadn’t really a stable relationship to base their own experience off of and it was so nice to be wanted. it didn’t occur to them that a) they were too young to be in this serious a relationship and b) this person was a total jackass

lots of verbal put downs, possessiveness, pressure to be perfect and always available, essentially treated as an accessory to him instead of a person of their own

their boyfriend kind of stifled the self expression they’d been starting to explore through fashion and makeup so they felt like they had to keep it a secret? stealing highlighters and lippies from the local drug store, that kinda thing.

they were willing to put themselves on the backburner if it meant staying in this “great” relationship but something felt wrong about it. it knocked their self esteem back a few pegs.
