Another tiresome night. another hour in front of an open laptop, surrounded with scattered pens, markers, and papers. You read the same sentence over and over again, trying to somehow remember the point that’s right before your eyes before you deemed it impossible. Burying your head into two soft palms and sighing out loud, you tried to suppress the silent sob that broke out from your slightly parted lips.

Immediately, two warm arms wrapped themselves around your waist, a familiar face coming into view as your boyfriend!Seungyoun rested his head on your shoulder.

“Baby, it’s time for you to rest” he whispered, even breathing sending shivers down your spine. Seungyoun moved to kiss your shoulder, soft skin exposed due to his shirt being too big on you. 

“Younnie this presentation is important and-” before any more words could be said, the hands were unlatched from your waist and already rotating the chair in another direction. Seungyoun crouched down and looked at you with the most endearing eyes, hands coming up to cup both of your cheeks.

“And we’re going to prepare for it together tomorrow. There's still time. You’ve worked hard and enough today, i’m proud of you” at that, Seungyoun smiled, eyes turning into thin splits and making you fall in love all over again. Still, there was a pinch of hesitation in you, fear of not being able to prepare everything as your gaze fell onto the pile of papers still scattered all around.

Seungyoun turned your face in his direction and booped your nose, earning an honest smile in return. 

“That’s what I love to see, no being sad, okay? It’s going to be okay” the male held one of your wrists and pulled you up from the uncomfortable chair, noticing the way his shirt hung off from your body once again. Seungyoun led you towards the shared bed, tucking you in before turning the lights off and climbing in beside you.

That night, all the worries disappeared, as you fell asleep in your boyfriend’s warm embrace, listening to his beautiful whispers of sweet nothings.

Sorry I promised you an entry a couple days ago, but better late than never? Hehe :) Perfect for NYE +15HRS, yeah? ;) Game? (Yup definitely more fob already).

Let me talk about this year since holy balls... Let’s reflect, shall we? Okay lezdewitttt!

I’m going to admit, that 2017 has been the shittiest year I’ve ever lived in my life - mentally. Like shittiest. In all fairness. I’m so sorry you got to know me more as your girl in that way. Not ‘I’m sorry’ cuz I’m taking fault, but ‘sorry’ that you had to go through what you had to go through on your end.

Let’s get cheesy, yeah? We like cheese! No matter how mofo-ing stormy the rain was, even when you wanted to give up... you’ve still chosen to stay by my side. This is why I always ask,  “Why?”  Because in my head I tell myself that  there’s always better, there’s prettier, there’s younger. So I hope you don’t get annoyed of me asking. One day I’ll get used to your answer and it’ll just become automatic when my own mind wanders. I know it’s been hard. So I would like to personally thank you. For staying strong. For keeping your head up when you’re drowning. Thank you for saving yourself to be stronger for us. If you don’t wanna be compared, then I’ll just talk about you. UNESCO:Reaching a Milestone to Revive the Spirit of Mosul

The first phase of the restoration of Al Nouri Mosque and its historic minaret in Mosul, Iraq is complete. UNESCO has taken on the delicate task of reconstructing the mosque after it was destroyed by ISIL in 2017.

UNESCO’s flagship initiative, Revive the Spirit of Mosul, has reached an important milestone towards the full restoration of Al Nouri Mosque and its historic minaret in Mosul, Iraq. Just a few days ago, work was completed on the stabilization of the mosque and the Al-Hadba minaret, both nearly destroyed by ISIL/Daesh in 2017.

UNESCO has undertaken the delicate task of reconstruction from amidst the ruins, while ensuring strict adherence to the historic integrity of the structures.

Here is What We Did to Reach the End of this Phase:

In October 2019, UNESCO started working on removing landmines from the site and stabilizing the fragile remaining structure of the historic leaning 45-meter minaret, built more than 840 years ago.

By mid-November, , the grounds around the minaret and the Al-Nouri Mosque had been completely cleared of rubble and the mosque’s dome stabilized with straps around the base of the dome and its pillars.

The process of clearing the grounds was more than just the removal of old stones. In fact, amidst the rubble were valuable pieces of the mosque and minaret that could be reused during reconstruction. This is another example of UNESCO’s commitment to restoring the structures with every effort taken to preserve their historic integrity.

Additional work reinforcing the arches of the Al-Nouri Mosque arcade was completed last month bringing this first phase of activity to a close.

The work at the Al-Nouri Mosque site is made possible with the generous support of the United Arab Emirates and coordinated work with the Government of Iraq, local partners and international experts. It is being undertaken as a major part of UNESCO’s flagship initiative to Revive the Spirit of Mosul, launched in February 2018. This initiative includes three main strategic areas: education, cultural life and heritage.

Mosul is the living symbol of Iraqi’s pluralistic identity. For centuries, it has been a crossroad of culture in the Middle East. From the Sumerian cities to Babylon, from the walls of Nineveh to the Silk Road, the region has been a melting pot of people and ideas. Between 2014 and 2017, this story of peace – the true spirit of Mosul – has been overshadowed by another story of hatred and violence.

The occupation of Mosul left the City destroyed. Not a single structure is unscathed. Not a single pane of glass is unbroken. The archeological site of Nimrud, the Museum of Mosul, the Nabi Younnis Shrine, the Al Hadba Minaret and many other sites and landmarks lie in ruins.

Thousands of homes are heaps of rubble. Many residents are slowly returning, the camps near the City are full. The entire education sector from pre-primary to higher education is devastated while students and teachers are struggling with the physical as well as the physiological sequels of the war. In February 2018, the International Conference on the Reconstruction of Iraq (Kuwait City) focused on the importance of the human dimension at the heart of sustainable recovery and reconstruction. This is why the Director-General of UNESCO launched a flagship initiative “Revive the Spirit of Mosul”, focusing on the human dimension of reconstruction. With the full support of the Government of Iraq and of the UN Secretary-General, UNESCO will coordinate international efforts in two main areas: the restoration and rehabilitation of cultural heritage and the revival of educational and cultural institutions.

UNESCO has a longstanding cooperation with Iraq. It has been present in Iraq since early 2003 and has successfully accomplished a number of major cultural heritage projects, such as the restoration of the Al-Askari Shrine in Samarra, and the Revitalization of Erbil Citadel. In 2017, UNESCO, in cooperation with the Iraqi Ministry of Culture, launched the Response Plan for the Safeguarding of Cultural Heritage in the Liberated Areas of Iraq (2017-2019). "Revive the Spirit of Mosul” is a UNESCO priority for the next years. It is the most important reconstruction campaign undertaken by UNESCO in recent times. Since February, UNESCO is fully mobilized for the Mosul initiative, at its Headquarter and in its Field Offices in Bagdad and the region. The initiative is in line with the Plan for “Reconstruction and Development in Iraq” of the Iraqi Government and the Program for Recovery and Resilience in Iraq (RRP) initiated by the UN Secretary-General.
