Becky Botsford jr high version is such a coin toss because I could totally see her leaning HEARD into academics and wanting to be taken seriously.........but you also cannot tell me she isn't wearing an alicorn onesie to sleep each night.

I know people are still in school (or at work) right now BUT — to my Wordgirl mutuals and followers of the same content, I have some exciting news. I will share it later because this pup has things to do I’m afraid though I’ve literally been waiting for weeks just to have it up and running.
Please keep in mind you’re not obligated to join. Also I am an adult so if you’re a younger fan and not willing to be part of it - that is also completely fine! Though I am bouncing off the fucking walls!
Anyway, I will post it this afternoon!

Commemorating the Anniversary
Well, this blog was made just in time for the Wordgirl Anniversary - even if it was almost entirely by accident. The series premiered 17 years ago (excluding the shorts-) on September 3, 2007 and while I hardly remember the original shorts - let alone the first episodes, I returned to it just now and with the anniversary at the eyes of its adoring fans.
If anything, Wordgirl changed me in a way I can't describe. Everything started with Randy Cunningham, and the return to my beloved Secret Quartet but now Wordgirl has become a show dear to my heart. Not only is it an educational program with an amazing cast of characters - but because there's so much more it could be. Wordgirl has a lot of deeper episodes, shining brightly against its usual more comedic, lighthearted approach.
I can't thank enough how much being part of the community, being part of the fandom, has made me a lot happier. I've yet to see much toxicity and let's hope it stays that way but to move onto something fun for this post - I'm going to be posting headcanons and lore ideas here, the same way I did when I first joined Randy Cunningham.
I hope you enjoy the show!
WORDGIRL HEADCANONS
💫 Becky Botsford 'presents' herself as Afro-Latina, much like the rest of her adoptive family. Though she is alien, I have this distinct feeling there's some cloaking thing going on (because I am also very much for a separate headcanon I will talk about shortly-)
💫 She met Violet Heaslip when they were still in preschool and became inseparable ever since.
💫 Due to the connections with Superman, Becky can heal faster than the average human; she can still scar, of course but she won't easily be killed by normal means. What this means for when it comes to Lexonite - we'll get to that later!
💫 Her first crush wasn't Scoops! It was Violet, but Becky didn't seem to pick up on it - as she didn't have a concept of the word back then, at least not fully, and well - she dismissed it for something else. Personally, I don't think she cares about giving her sexuality a label. It just exists!
💫 She craves validation but she doesn't want to be arrogant. I know canon seems to treat this a little weirdly; though I like to see it as her wanting to be seen, as more than just Wordgirl and after all - heroes should get their recognition for protecting their city which is more than can be said for Fair City!
💫 I love the idea that the Botsford's always suspected there was something special about Becky, but they never brought it up - not wanting her to feel cornered.
💫 Becky and Violet are often partners in projects. Where Violet's more artistic, Becky works on making sure it's presentable and other notecards where her writing excels.
💫 Fair City cannot possibly be that dumb, but then again - it is an educational show. Even then, they make me mad though I can rant about that in a meta post; for now, here''s the headcanon: featured words have to happen in the episode, and so there's a bit of 'programming' where they need to ask in order for Wordgirl to define it!
💫 Divorced McAllister parents moment!
💫 Literally most of the cast is neurodivergent. I don't make the rules (except I do /lh-). This is canon now!
💫 You cannot sit here and tell me that Lexicon doesn't know Becky went missing from the planet. So either they know and don't care; or they know... and she's just too far away for them to reach her. (or there's the angstier approach where something happened to the planet, but that isn't supported by canon so-)
💫 Not all of the characters can break the fourth wall. This is something only attributed to Becky and some of the leads; others can talk with the Narrator, but they don't have direct communication with the viewers, or anything like that!
💫 Adoptive villain family supporter here-
I have a lot more, but these are the ones I'm starting with, because I am very lazy- and well, this post has gotten incredibly big. Also additional headcanon that since the series is educational, other planets exist based on school subjects! Loosely supported by the appearance of Kid Math, though honestly he should've had more episodes-
Lore thoughts will be posted separately as I realize this has gotten incredibly big, but I am just bouncing off of the walls - Wordgirl is my pride and joy right now, even if I love to angst anything I get my paws on! Without much further ado though, I leave you!
Happy Wordgirl anniversary, to the many years to come - and well, to the prosperity of this blog because I am very much not done yet!

helloo! I really love your art style it's so pretty and love the tobecky content <33
I wanted to ask, which episode that involves tobecky is your favorite?
OHH GOSH THANK YOU!! AHH MEANS a lot. (^.^)\(^_^)/❤️ (bites wall) and thx for the ask!
And what WG episode with Tobecky is my favorite? Hmm...toughie. There's some episodes, obviously, that have Tobey in them, but I don't consider Tobecky moments immediately (example: Field Day Fun with Robo-Tobey).
If I were to ever choose my top ones and narrow it down, though, it would go (no order just naming):
-Department Store Tobey
-Trustworthy Tobey
-It's your party and I cry if I want to
-By Jove, you've wrecked my robot
-Have you seen the remote
-Guess Who's coming to Thanksgiving Dinner
-The Robot problem
And to narrow it down... Okay damn it's tough again. Because I love their banter in By Jove and the hint that he's been getting a crush on Becky, but they have more sillier softer moments in season 1 episodes like Department and Seen The Remote. But Robot Problem has them actually team up, and it's the first episode where I started to ship them. BUT--Its My Party has them actually get ice cream after years of build-up and Tobey coming to his senses moments. And of course, Thanksgiving Dinner with them actually smiling at each other for one, HOWEVER, Trustworthy Tobey with being his last focus episode where he's strictly not being the worst and maybe turning reasoble along with it being Becky and Tobey conflict and not him and Wordgirl (PLUS THE NOTE UGHH)--
(Explodes) Ya see why this is tricky.
But for the sake of answering this....I'll go with right now...AHHH, it's gonna go to Trustworthy Tobey. It's what I'm feeling right now. Mostly cause... I remember when I did my Wordgirl re-watch in late 2017 that got me into the fandom again and started this years long hyperfixation. I was dreading the last Tobey episode/last Tobecky moments we'll get. You see, I liked the season 7 and 8 Tobey episodes, but man, ever since season 1, it's been hard trying to justify this kid when he gets washed like every episode and so I was like "plss be good" or at least give me hope for his character cause I didn't want him to regress. And what do you know...hope! Sure, he's still an immature jerk that's still in character, but at least he wasn't extreme or not immediately dismissive. He actually kept up being truthful and Becky learned something, not to mention he doesn't get scott-free either and this time the most he does is just unleash a malfunctioning robot to a library and not like destroy buildings or attempt to kill people.
Plus, I find it extremely interesting the dialog and moments he has with Becky as Becky and not Wordgirl. Because call me silly but to me peak Tobecky is when he interacts with Becky as herself and not just Wordgirl--the ship name isn't Wordbey after all. Plus again the note YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH THAT SCREWED WITH ME WHEN I SAW IT. Because another factor to why I hold up this episode so highly...even though Robot Problem/Have you seen the Remote is what got me to officially ship them...this episode is what inspired me to make a lot of my Wordgirl and Tobecky content. Cause it filled my imagination in what their relationship and Tobey's character could go next and there was no new Tobey episode to contradict it tehe. It drove me to read fanfiction. Start drawing on my dingy phone with FlipaClip. Start drabbles that I never posted. Interact with others. It...kinda drove me crazy? Like it legit didn't make me okay, but hey it's why I consider it personally my favorite.

The Ripple Verse: !!BOY GENIUS!! CHAOS THEORY
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lil’ Miss Amour! AKA Amy LoveHeart
My first ever OC for volume 2: !!BOY GENIUS!! (and technically my first ever OC for the Wordgirl fandom in general)
Extra Doodles:
CW: a lot of no-no words ((one including the ‘C-Word’ since Tobey is British and in his Tweenage years))
Tumblr media
So to clarify:
No I’m not shipping my OC Amy LoveHeart with Tobey McCallister (she’s like 9 while he’s 13 and when he turns 18 she’ll be 14 so ew no thank you). I just wanted to make a villain oc that gets on Tobey’s and admittedly my own nerves
Info:
Amy/Lil’ Miss Amour is a 9-10 year old villain.
She moved into Fair City around the time Wordgirl left Earth when she was 7.
She became a Villain 2 years later around the time when 13 year old Tobey Mccallister took up the mantle as Fair City’s okayest “SOMEWHAT-A-hero” as a substitute for WordGirl’s Absence.
Amy gets a crush on any (cute) boy she sees IMMEDIATELY. She doesn’t have to know them, if they’re pretty, she likes them. And if she likes them, she forces them to like her back by using her powers. (Then forcing them to steal goods and treats she wants, uncaring if the boy is caught unless she doesn’t get what she wanted)
Tobey originally was safe from her (since she thought he was just ‘meh, not cute’). But then when he proved to be the only boy that couldn’t fall for her trance, magic, or potions, she fell for him. ((Now Tobey gets to feel what it’s like to be in WordGirl’s shoes when he was smitten with her when they were 10-11. Tobey hates the reminder of that time and he absolutely hates Lil’ Miss Amour with every FIBER OF HIS BEING—))
Her catchphrase is:
“Mon Amour LOVE BEAM!” (She’s Spanish but I misspelt her name Amor as Amour, so now there’s no going back, she’s bilingual now. And probably bisexual in the future—)
Her powers consist of:
Eyes that can manipulate others into falling in love with her/adoring her. Therefore, making them be under her every command (Alike to Mind Control but forcing the victim to love her)
Knowledge of alchemy (usually it’s just magic love potions)
Creating crystallized hearts by her magic wand (very fragile, looks like candy actually-)
Pink blasts that leaves her victims in a love struck daze/trance temporarily
Her powers grow stronger in later episodes, examples:
She can force people into or out of relationships
Emotional manipulation (I don’t mean the ‘abusive type of manipulation’, I mean she literally forces their emotions). Example: She can force people to feel anger, jealousy, hatred, etc.
I plan for her to be a recurring Villain in Season 2 for Tobey, and she’ll even make a few appearances in !!WORDGIRL!! Teen Spirit but she’s mostly around to ruin things when Becky tries to get closer to Tobey romantically, including one on one hangouts and attempted confessions (much to Becky’s frustration and Tobey’s growing hatred towards the little girl)
((The Ripple Verse is tagged so if you’re interested in my AU at all 👉👈 you can click it in the post tags and look more into it))
Reblogs and Replies/Comments are GREATLY appreciated!!

I actually have been meaning to make a compilation of Violet just saying things. Do you have any idea if WG has strict copyright? Like, if I make it and put it on YT, is it likely to get taken down?
when it comes to wordgirl being posted on youtube it's murky waters; @djsadbean created a video discussing fandom topics and the like while using clips from the show and it got smacked by copyright. HOWEVER, compilations of out of context clips, character appreciations and FULL EPISODES have been posted without trouble. so, i think it just depends on what you can get away with...

WordGirl Discord Server
Hello Worgs :D
I wanted to create a drama-free and chill WordGirl server where everyone can just hang out and talk about their blorbos.
If anyone would be interested, please feel free to use the link below to join!
However, before you sign up, please make sure you are 100% okay with the rules of this server, as this is meant to be a safe space for the fandom! Further, please don't join if drama is your thing, because that won't be tolerated here.
Thank you all so much 💕💕💕
Here's the rules list:
Rules ✅ ✅ ✅ This section is a tad bit intense, but please don't let the seriousness of it put you off. Hopefully the more the rules cover details, the less something negative will happen in our chill server 🙂
We are all worth more than drama. We Worgs deserve a safe haven from life's stressors - somewhere lighthearted to goof off and discuss the blorbos. So, in this server, our peace of mind and mental health is a major priority. That means no infighting, no nitpicking at each other, no bullying, nada.
Be respectful to everyone. Respect differences in opinions, be kind to each other, speak to each other politely even if things get tense, and treat each other cordially. We're all friends here 💕
Handle conflicts according to the plan: Please, if a conflict comes up, handle it with grace and understanding. If the situation involves a simple disagreement, take it over to the "working it out" channel. Try and see the situation from all sides, have empathy, talk politely and constructively, etc. If you can't work it out, calmly let a mod know, and they'll help sort things. If it's just a difference of opinion where content is triggering to one party, it'll be kept up but spoilered. If it's something discriminating, bullying, or otherwise unacceptable, it'll be taken down ASAP and without drama.
No adult content in spaces meant for minors. Please be very aware of what you're putting in children's spaces. Any breach of this rule will not be tolerated.
Minors and adults may not DM each other using this server as a contacts list. Minors, if an adult contacts you via DMs from this server, please let a mod know.
No spam outside of spam channels.
No abusing roles. Don't claim to be an adult as a minor or a minor as an adult, etc. These rules are in place to keep everybody safe and sound 🙂
If that all sounds a-okay to you, please consider joining our lil server over at this link: https://discord.gg/EAPyqy4y
Have a lovely day!!!

After seeing the extreme attitudes regarding "acceptable" fandom content in the Wordgirl sphere... I'm so uncomfortable, so afraid to even interact with the community. I think I should cut my losses and leave, but at this point, I think my presence would be missed, and I would hate to have to answer questions about why I disappeared. Despite all this, I still love and care about the show, and will be utterly distraught to no longer be able to talk to anyone about it. What would you recommend I do?
If this is about the convo that happened last night in the Wordgirl server, firstly, I’m not trying to out you (cuz I don’t know who you are), but at the same time…
Yes, it can be a little frustrating with certain fandoms (depending on age demographic and such) to know what jokes can be said or not. You don’t know until someone gets in your face about saying they were offended over something you said. And with the Internet, it’s always 50/50.
HOWEVER, I don’t know exactly what you mean by “acceptable” because the reason that conversation started was because people were making (NSFW tw) gross sexual jokes with TOBEY of all characters (with a Wordgirl plush no less) and disturbing y4ndere-Tobey comments. Neither of which are acceptable nor should be publicly shown where very young minors are exposed to them. We were genuinely concerned about how minors were interacting with these concepts just recently.
The simplest thing is just don’t be a creep? Specially with child characters. I’d say everything else is free game and even encouraged. But sexualization of minors is an obvious no-no in any fandom.

this is a ‘not supporting spreading hate on ships that have nothing to do with you, don’t harm you or others, and are not generally wrong’ account. this is a ‘not being a petty bitch’ account.
i bet the only fucking reason yall don’t like bigslie or the cheesecake or the other twobrains ships is either cuz they 1. clash with your expensive cheese ship and 2. you’re a petty sad mfker who wants to get revenge on being kicked from the original wordgirl server because you’re a guilt tripping attention needy harasser on the internet with clearly nothing else better to do.
you feel powerful because you’re no longer the only expensive cheese shipper and now you’re spreading hate in a fandom where it does not belong. if you don’t like these ships, you can look away instead of attacking it. these are specific ships too, with specific people you most definitely thought of while making these claims. you know these ships mean a lot to these people. you aimed to bring them down. if that’s not pathetic, i don’t know what is.
this is a fandom for a goddamn children’s show, we don’t need people like you in it if THIS is what you plan on contributing.

Capture the Flag - A WordGirl Comic
1/??
Happy Pride Month, WordGirl fandom! (Hush, child. I’m well aware that it’s the last day of Pride Month. /lh) I’ve got another comic that I’d like to share with y’all! It’s a continuation of my previous comic Tobey Becomes Emo. If you haven’t read that comic already, feel free to do so at your leisure.
Now, without any further ado, I present to you... Capture the Flag!  🏳️‍🌈
Tumblr media
Narrator: It has been a month since Woodview Elementary’s Class of 2002 has graduated. Former 5th-grader, Victoria Best, has been using this time to reminisce about her elementary school days. Minus the drama and emotional neglect from her overbearing parents, the blonde-haired girl still enjoyed her time at Woodview. Due to being a social butterfly, Victoria was able to make friends quite easily. However, there was this one girl that stood out from the rest. She was compassionate, pulchritudinous, and not to mention intelligent. The girl never saw eye-to-eye with Victoria thanks to her boastful nature, but she never loathed her company. Phone calls from this girl have been becoming more and more frequent these past few days. And the blonde-haired girl cherishes every conversation. As a result, Victoria has started to listen to her heart.
Tumblr media
(Victoria clears her throat.)
Victoria: Dear Becky Botsford,
I’m putting my arrogance aside to write you this letter. Now, I’m not the best with words by any means (that’s your department), but I will say that you're the best person I’ve ever met. You’re ambitious, quick-witted, compassionate, and just downright-
(Victoria clears her throat yet again.)
Oh geez, my throat is parched. I shouldn’t snack on salty crackers anymore. I need to get a glass of water.
(Victoria exits her bedroom.)
Tumblr media
(Victoria’s letter reads, “Dear Becky Botsford, I’m putting my arrogance aside to write you this letter. Now, I’m not the best with words by any means (that’s your department), but I will say that you're the best person I’ve ever met. You’re ambitious, quick-witted, compassionate, and just downright beautiful. However, I still can’t shake the feeling that you weren’t born on this planet. Your flawless vocabulary makes you stand out from the rest. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I admire your immense lexicon. During our conversations over the phone, you would use words that I’d never even heard of before. And when I would ask you to define a word for me, you wouldn’t hesitate to do so. Now, before I finish writing this letter, I’d like to ask you a serious question. Would you like to go out on a date with me? It’s been a while since we’ve seen each other in person. Love, Victoria.”)
Tumblr media
Victor:  Heh heh… Oh, Vicky. So naive. You’re in for an odious awakening.
Tumblr media
Narrator: Meanwhile, at the Botsford residence, Becky “WordGirl” Botsford is currently working on a letter for a special someone.
Becky: Could you please pan the camera over to TJ? Having a camera in my face while I’m working on something is very cringe-inducing to me. Understood?
Narrator: Oh... okay.
TJ: What’s up with her?
Tumblr media
Narrator: Just... stick to the script.
TJ: Alright. Now, what was my line again? Ah yes, I remember.
~
Greetings and salutations, folks! And welcome to the first episode of…
Cooking with TJ and Johnson
Volume Ⅰ: Sweet Treats
Episode Ⅰ: Rainbow Cupcakes
Tumblr media
TJ: Johnson? Where did you go?
Johnson: H-Here I am!
TJ: Hmm?
Tumblr media
Johnson: I’m so sorry for the hold-up, TJ. I was having trouble finding an apron. The rest of the aprons were in your laundry bin, so I had n-no choice but to dart back home to retrieve this apron I’m wearing now. D-Does it look bad on me?
...
Hey, man. Are you feeling okay?
TJ: Y-Yeah, I’m okay! No worries! Haha!
To be continued...
~
Application Used: ibis Paint X
Time Spent: 41h 33m
 Have a nice day/night! 💕 🏳️‍🌈

make a big ramble post about becky/wordgirl and how much you love her <3
hoooo boy lets go. The people are kind to me :D
Long rant below the break!
Okay like actually she is one of my absolute favorite kids show protagonists out there. I’ve talked about this before but Becky is SUCH a good character to base an educational superhero show around, the creators KNEW what they were doing.
First off I unironically find her one of the funniest characters in the show. Don’t get me wrong the writing for the villains is incredible (ftr I think Granny May is absolutely hilarious and we don’t acknowledge her enough) but the sheer concept of the main character of an educational show being an absolute know-it-all brat like a fourth of the time feels like something that should be in one of those kids-show parody videos.
Imagine if during an episode of a different show aimed at a similar age group was like “Hey kids! Where is the beach?” and the character was about to point at the beach to teach the lesson or whatever and Dora the explorer pops up out of goddamn NOWHERE to be like “UM ACTUALLY It’s right there! I can’t believe you didn’t see that, thank god I was here to help you ^-^” and then she punches them in the face
Becky lowkey having anger and ego issues too is just. So wonderful. I have a bias towards otherwise good characters with #problems and Becky is just the perfect example of that. I really like how it’s not treated like a comedy prop only though. The show portrays that Becky is allowed to be angry and that it’s normal and natural for her to react to things with anger, and it shows that she has every right to be confident and proud of herself, but if she lets it get the better of her and starts treating others badly the show condemns her immediately, and I think that’s a great lesson for kids to see. It shows the nuance of emotions and the appropriate ways of expressing them without turning the kids cartoon into a complicated, unfun mess.
Also I think tobecky is really cute, but I think that the way it is handled in canon was exactly how it needed to be handled and is a great subversion of the normal trope. There's more than enough media where the girl finally sees the good in the boy who does the bare minimum for her and loves him, or where the responsibility falls on the girl character to “fix” the guy character and it’s treated as incredibly romantic, and Wordgirl (the show) just actively making fun of Tobey trying to get WG to be that for him is great. It’s, again, a very important lesson for kids.
I like how Becky isn’t mean to Tobey though (we’ll get to miss power in a minute) but she’s not wholesome uwu nice to him, she acts like a kid. They have dynamic that many kids that age have, they get into bantering, sometimes they take it too far because they’re kids, at the end of the day though watching them interact, whether at school or at a battle, feels like watching two hothead have a playdate (Go Gadget Go is the exception to this, we all acknowledged that was weird and too far but we can chalk it up to Tobey being 10 and not fully understanding how bad it was)
Keep making tobecky fan content though pls I eat that shit up like candy
Okay I went on to talking about the actual show BACK TO BECKY SPECIFICALLY
It’s kinda sad how easily the villains, especially the adult villains, can just trick her into letting her guard down. Like she has this very clearly instilled respect for just adults, which is understandable of course she’s 10, but it gets her in trouble a lot. It’s never that big of a deal though I just wanted to make a note of it. And anyways ABOUT THAT-
I swear I won’t talk about it for too long just hear me out okay (if you’re following me we both know damn well this is why you followed me so you legally have to stay for this part)
Her relationship with DTB grabbed me and like at least a quarter of the fandom by the face and told us we had daddy issues, the whole Boxlietner thing is :( but I think it’s very sweet how parts of their relationship remained when he transformed. They’re just on the same mental level throughout the show. Other word-smart villains like Tobey she just doesn’t seem to click with as much, and I think while a big reason is because her and TB used to be friends, I also think that they just. Mesh well. Their personalities balance each other nicely, and maybe i’m just absolutely fucking bonkers but WG like imitates his posture and shit a lot of times whenever they’re in a scene together I just think thats cute. Every time I think i’m exaggerating how much of a gay brooklyn dad he is I see another clip of him parenting WG or his henchmen. Like this man oh my god. DTB is the most fruitcake ever
Also him and a couple other villains are the closest thing she has to parents when she’s being wordgirl, which is literally half of her life : D pain. No wonder that's who she reaches out to when she can’t talk to Sally and Tim
ALso also headcanon that she got her fear of spiders from Steven because of that one spider episode where they were both scared of spiders.
Becky being OBSESSED with pretty princess is wonderful and every time something interrupts her show the universe should compensate her with 1000 dollars.
She’s just absolutely adorable. She reminds me so much of the kids I work with at summer camp and it makes me happy. Witty little superhero pop off queen.
The way she’s comically horrible at art and anything related to art is a funny gag and her FINALLY understanding art and making a good painting in the second to last episode just because she realized that the reason Becky loves Violet’s art so much isn’t because it’s good, but because it’s Violet is the cutest thing in the world I am holding onto these two like they’re my children
And then rhyme and reason happens because this show is cruel
Also Becky should go apeshit. I'm embarrassed to say that during the entirety of Miss Power I was like “yessss be horrible yesss” just because I personally need all of my favorite characters to
a) suffer
b) do awful things
c) both
More fanfics where she either goes evil or goes vigilante please idc if it’s in character or not. My fatal flaw is being obsessed with trying to write in character to the point where I avoid things that could be fun, don’t be me kids. Make wordgirl evil just because.
I might add on to this later but it’s already over two pages anyways I love becky wordgirl botsford

The Crossover No One Asked For
Alright so,
This became a little pet project to indulge on both of my active fixations. It has turned into a secret ploy to keep RC9GN from completely leaving as a hyperfixation because the series and its fandom changed everything for me- I'd hate to leave it behind, but here we go...
This is mostly for me to toss out ideas; if I keep going back and forth between subjects, I am deeply sorry pfft. Also keep in mind this may be a fanfic so I won’t be sharing everything!
Wordgirl x RC9GN Crossover
Timeline
~ This is set post-canon when it comes to RC9GN! McFist and Viceroy are still active as villains, but have gradually calmed down since the Sorcerer's defeat. Randy is 15 at the moment
~ He's also a sophomore or borderline close to entering junior year because of when I decided his birthday was
~ This also takes place post-canon for Wordgirl unless I decide to change my mind about it! Currently, the idea is that she's 12 or so when the crossover starts! She's at the cusp of reaching high school
Now onto the main order of things!
~ As a result of it being summer, the Botsford's (including Huggy) take a trip to Norrisville, OK. Granted, the history of the Ninja isn't shared across other cities - due to ahems certain reasons which will be disclosed later
~ the Ninja is going through a period of inactivity, but of course this won't last forever. Unfortunately, it does mean Randy's a bit paranoid about an attack happening unexpectedly
~ The Botsford's are staying at one of the hotels owned by McFist on the pretense of I said so and well, a lot is sponsored by McFist anyway so-
~ Things happen when Becky sees the Ninja swinging by in front of her window. Not having the slightest clue what's going on, she takes off - under the pretense that she's going sightseeing - and follows the Ninja
~ After a brief moment of mistaken identity and misunderstandings, Wordgirl and the Ninja reluctantly become as close to allies as it can get but as per usual - it seems something's happening behind closed doors
~ McFist appears to be in cohorts with... [REDACTED]. I can't very well share everything in one go, now can I?
~ The Ninja and his newfound ally decide to take on McFist, but unfortunately... things happen to go south after that. With the CEO's claims he has managed a way to rid of the Ninja permanently, among other things - who knows what might happen from this?
Headcanons and Ramblings
Becky/Wordgirl is not fond of the slang used in Norrisville. She gradually learns to put up with it since Randy uses it every other sentence
They do not have the perfect alliance at first! The Ninja sees Wordgirl as condescending while Wordgirl thinks the Ninja can come off as arrogant. Needless to say, it’s going to be interesting!
At some point, they meet as Becky and Randy and somehow manage to get along better. Neither seem to have discovered their hero counterparts
This doesn’t happen in this specific part of the crossover, but Debbie and Scoops would not get along. It’s even worse when it’s Scoops and Heidi. I think they could reach a point of being friends but it’ll take time
McFist and Mr. Big would NOT get along. They would hate each other but undisclosed things happen in this universe that fuel it even more and I will not say anything more
Becky and Theresa would be the best of fucking friends
I don’t remember who first headcanoned this but Becky would understand the Nomicon lessons a lot better than Randy. The Narrator and the Nomicon’s essence joke about how much it takes Randy to get the message
Well. This is all you’re getting for the time being! I’m hoping to transform my idea into a fanfiction so be on the lookout for that- though for now, I wish you a fantastic evening! Or any other timezone you might be a part of~

Falling into the WordGirl fandom for me is like getting beaten up by my childhood heroes ‘cause it’s like “oh my god I know these guys! They’re so funny and great!” and then there’s the sucker punch of really angsty fics and fan art that make me re-think everything I thought I knew about them.
Like fics showing how Tobey basically needs validation was obviously not what I was paying attention to when I was like 7. I mean, that’s just what happens with aging, you see things differently, but it’s more upsetting that I’m coming to this realisation about a decade later only because of fanfiction.

Halo heloo!! Popping in to say if you have any more Wordgirl hot takes? I'm new to the fandom and I saw your post about the opinion meme. (Btww my favorite character is Lady Redundant Woman and I ship Tobecky-- I wonder if you also have unpopular opinions on those mostly cause im curious)
Hi!! Thanks for the ask.
Kinda funny that I'm asked fandom/character questions considering my activity and obscurity, but I have been in the Wordgirl space for 7 years and observed it back in the early 2010s.
As for hot takes...hmm, I could give some since I was watching through the series again, and I recently had some discussions with a friend about Wordgirl stuff. (The Disclaimer, aside from one of the takes I have, these aren't that serious, or do I want to come across as confrontational, just my thoughts and opinions):
Scoops is not a jerk. Random, I know, but it's also connected to the idea of Scoops being this secretly selfish boy and why he's the least liked kid character in the fandom next to idk Eileen. Yes, Scoops is a bit of dunce and can often say or do stuff because he gets carried away or his ego--but he wouldn't straight up be malicious. He's a kid. And idk, I think it's pretty funny how oblivious or callouse he can be to others. But no Tobecky fans, Scoops wouldn't just straight up hate or stop being Becky's friend if she either confessed to him or started seeing Tobey. (I agree that he's such a dummy at times and could say the wrong things, but come on, look at Scoops and tell me he would treat his friends terribly.)
Granny May is funny. I know a lot of people don't like her or her episodes because they hate the gaslight or turn on Wordgirl schemes, but idc I think it's hilarious that this 75 year old is beefing with a child and gets away with manipulating people for the 100th time. Plus, I think it's interesting that her episodes could bring out a Becky that makes us question if she's doing good deeds bc it's the right thing or doing them because it gives her purpose and adoration. Either way, I'm like the only Wordgirl fan who is interested in Granny May character lore, and what exactly is her relationship to her own kids and grandkids. And that's cause she makes me laugh.
(Oh boy, serious time) Okay, so this is a very recent observation and discussion I had with a friend who is more educated on this matter over the entire fandom perception of Two-brains|squeaky. And I'm gonna say it on mine and on their behalf... I don't like the usage of squeaky as this ultimate evil or an overt metaphor for the difficult/bad side effects of mental illness. Like, okay, I know this is touchy for people since Two-brains is the favorite--but I don't like the constant fandom aesthetic sticking to making Two-brains the ONLY character with either DID or any number of serious mental conditions just because he fused with the brain of a evil mouse, especially when their depiction of it is worse than Detroit Become Human with racism. At worst, it could be ablelist and ignorant to people with those actual diagnoses. What do I mean by this? Well, it's mostly for people who think that Steven is still inside Two-brains or that Two-brains could be fixed. I'm one of the Steven is gone believers, but regardless--it's kinda ehh to try and make Two-brains represent someone with mental illness or addiction and just say "dw he can be cured if we kill this other part of himself". Even worse than when he does get "fixed," it's only squeaky's influence that encourages his bad behavior and that others would care for him more if only he got rid of the "problem" and went back to being "normal". Like...that's not how a mental illness/condition works. I should know. And this idea kinda makes me uncomfortable because idk, it's like the equivalent of when TOH was still airing and some ppl going: "Why doesn't eda just isolate or destroy the owl beast?" Or the audacity to say that she should have been fully healed at the end when no, she was a good example of the metaphor, and it would completely ruin the purpose. (Plus, I don't get the Jekyll and Hyde comparisons if you try to apply the mental illness metaphor).
As for the other parts of your question. Hmm do i have unpopular ideas/takes of Lrw or Tobecky?
For LRW, um, not really? She's one of my favorite villains, so I'm good, not really any complaints with her or how she's done in fandom tropes. All I know is that fandom actually makes her cooler somehow, and I get mad about that bc shes so awesome/lhj
For Tobecky...yeah I know, another discussion about them, lol, can't help it. But for unpopular ideas/takes...I guess one is that I don't think Wordgirl was completely terrible during the Miss Power scene with him. Like obviously it hurted Tobey's feelings and Wordgirl shouldn't be so mean, BUT you can't lie to say that if not then...Wordgirl would have blown up at him one day and it's good that Tobey at least knows what she deep down thought of him. I know a lot of people who like Tobey don't think he should be treated badly ever, but no, the kid kinda needs the humbling (the stuff of his appearance was uncalled for though. Like who cares about his drip Wordgirl--he destroys buildings and belittles others 😭 thats the least of his issues.)
Another one is that I don't think Wordgirl/Becky owes him anything just because he likes her and is secretly lonely. Like you can have Tobey as your favorite and want him to be happy, but, to me, it's like don't just make Tobey the one who only gets Becky because he like deserves it after getting mega sad or he "won" her (im saying this as a tobey fan). What's Becky thoughts? Or make her the one to realize why she would be with Tobey? How does Tobey make her happy? And that it's okay that Becky rejects Tobey in a fic or art. It doesn't make her the bad one in the scene or that she's treating him unfairly. (Something I realized in my own fic).

the robot problem: a critical look at tobecky, 5 years late
hello wordgirl fandom i am back :) and i have a lot of thoughts that i never got around to expressing before i moved on from the show. so be aware that everything i'm saying is based on my experiences during the 2012-2016 era of the fandom & state of tumblr in general, and i am not familiar with more recent fan content.
it's been over five years since the show ended, and @ifbrd reminded me (along with some great analysis) that while tobecky was super popular since before the show technically started (thanks to the play date shorts), it's pretty unhealthy in a lot of ways that tend to be excused or flat out ignored in fanworks. i'd like to reflect on that a bit (a lot); specifically, how both the show and the fandom approached this enemies-to-lovers ship, and how easily this ship can slip into uncomfortable territory if we're careless about how we interpret the ship and create fan content of it.
i will admit, i'm mostly writing this as a response to past me and my old creations - though i moved on from the show as a whole years ago, i do like taking the time to reflect on old interests once in a while, and reevaluating my thoughts on them. and this ship is probably the biggest one that still lurks in the corners of my mind once in a while, so let's go.
cherish is the word: a short positive note before a much longer negative one
i wanted to start this essay off with some positivity, because i am going to be very negative after this. tobecky was, in some ways, cute. it's obvious from the very beginning that these two characters are on pretty equal ground, even if one of them isn't aware of it. and that's part of the fun - the irony of how unaware tobey is that his nemesis/crush/person that pretty much always wins against him is someone that he completely dismisses as incompetent. i want to point this out because honestly, in general i don't like enemies-to-lovers because a lot of them use a power imbalance within the dynamic, and i hate power imbalances, especially when it comes to actual life-or-death scenarios (at least, as much as cartoons can do that). in most episodes, becky is never actually forced to go along with his wishes. she's not held in a 'date' against her will, nor is she ever really outwitted by him. i bring this up because there is one huge, uncomfortable exception, which i will get to later.
another big plus to the ship is the fact that they just... get along? even when fighting? of course we get brief moments where they just hang out and talk about paintings or whatever, but i'm talking about how much they get each other, even if they don't realize it. like the word banter, for example. been there since day one. becky loves words, and while most other people in her life don't really care (ranging from 'eh, that's cool i guess' to her brother calling it annoying), tobey gives her a chance to show off and thus treats her as a worthy adversary as herself, not because of her more generic superpowers - something that we've seen in canon that she feels self-conscious about (see: her motivation in patch game). one of the less noticed examples, to me, is "it's your party and i'll cry if I want to", because it's just - okay. they both are excluded from a social event, and while it's obvious that tobey deals with it by destroying the city, it's also pretty obvious that becky also deals with her frustration by fighting in that battle. like, yes, realistically it's just objectively bad that he's destroying buildings. but they're also providing each other with a way to work through their frustrations, first by fighting and then by talking things out, and finally by hanging out together instead of dwelling on being excluded from the party.
so it makes a lot of sense to me that many tobecky fans gravitated towards writing far-in-the-future fic, usually by implying that some growth had taken place before starting to write the ship. (there are, as far as i'm aware, 2... maybe 3 exceptions, that take the time to attempt a real redemption for him, at least when i left the fandom.) because if you take away his worst moments, either by reasoning out that he was 10 years old and a mess, or that he was a cartoon character in a cartoon world where everyone's actions are over-the-top, or by just flat-out pretending that certain episodes never happened, there's some pretty solid ground to start a ship on.
go gadget go: we all do not see it, we simply close our eyes (review of canon)
when the show began, i was the same age as the characters. a lot of other people were, too - at least in my cohort of the fandom. i think it's pretty safe to say that many of us have fond memories of the show's earlier seasons, and held on to that interest as we got older, for whatever reasons. so like, not to be all 'as an OG fan...', but i remember seeing the shorts air for the first time in 2006. i have a diary entry in july of 2009 about how i, a 12yo with no concept of the idea of 'shipping', was disappointed in the new tobey episode because i wanted more tobecky interactions. (that was robo-camping, btw, lol.) and so i remember how exciting their rivalry felt, watching them as someone literally their exact same age, and then watching that again as a nostalgic 17yo, and then uh... growing up, to put it frankly, and realizing just how unhealthy most of their interactions were.
okay what i meant to say was, this section is an overview of the relationship's canon portrayal throughout the years.
first, we have early tobecky: this includes the shorts and the first few seasons. this is their classic relationship: he likes her and takes robots on rampages to get her attention, she majorly disapproves and has fun taking him down. we've all seen the show, you know what i'm talking about. his backhanded ways of trying to find out her identity often feature prominently in the episodes, which - sigh, i've mentioned this whole issue before, but it's kind of a grey area in the whole uncomfortable-factor thing, because while trying to find out her identity is VERY invasive, it's something that like... everyone in the show tries to do, even her canon crush (scoops). on the one hand, it's really not a great look, but on the other hand, this is a cartoon meant to parody a genre in which this trope is extremely common. so i just wanna say that i have Issues and Thoughts on this aspect of their relationship, but there are other things i find more important to discuss here.
second, we have late tobecky: this is seasons 7-8. this is... a very strange and huge shift from the previous dynamic, though it's not necessarily obvious. what i mean by that is that for some reason, the show writers made it so that half of tobey’s rampages have nothing to do with his crush on wordgirl, even though that used to be the sole reason for his villainy. seriously. we have the birthday episode, where he's upset because he feels left out; wg vs tobey vs the dentist, where he's mad that he has a cavity; and trustworthy tobey, where his robot goes on a rampage... after becky accidentally makes it malfunction. the two outliers are ‘guess who’s coming to thanksgiving dinner’ and ‘patch game’, but they still differ from previous seasons because 1) his destruction is isolated to a forest far away from the city, and 2) his motive is still to impress wordgirl, but his methods are relatively tame. also he completely gives up on the secret identity thing??? i may have missed some things but i think he straight up tells her 'yeah there's no way you're wordgirl, lol' and the subject is just dropped for the rest of the show.
i also want to include 'the robot problem' here, because it's one of two season 6 tobey episodes, and follows the 'doesn't destroy buildings to get her attention' pattern: in fact, he teams up with her to try and stop someone else from going on a rampage (even if his reasons are selfish, lol).
and finally. the other season 6 episode. we have go gadget go, the bane of my time spent in the fandom. because GGG is the single episode where tobey truly manages to take away her autonomy, and proceeds to abuse that power for an extended period of time, for his own amusement. it's bad. it's Very Bad. put in the context that it's a white boy doing this to an (ambiguously) brown girl, it's REALLY REALLY BAD. and the more i look back on it, tbh, the more weirded out i am that the show not only made it seem like she wasn't affected at all within the episode, it just... forgot about it (which is not unusual for shows and especially children’s shows, but WG does make some efforts to either retain continuity or create canon reasons for why things are forgotten about). it's the kind of thing that you can't excuse and honestly you can't redeem (like at this point, you gotta ask yourself why you're spending so much effort trying to redeem this guy when becky has several other possible ships that are nowhere near this unhealthy - violet, scoops, honestly even victoria if you want another hero/villain ship, my absolute fave rarepair rose, etc).
so if you want to still ship it you have to just pretend that it never happened. (i remember trying for weeks to write something exploring the aftermath of this episode, to try and make myself feel better about it, but the more i wrote the more i realized just how traumatic this event should've been, so i eventually just dropped it.) and i brought up my own timeline of experiences earlier to point out that this episode aired eight whole years after the show started. which means that when i saw it, even though i was a huge stickler for canon at the time, i'd built up my own idea of the show and characters strongly enough to go 'yeah, no, this episode sucks and i am going to pretend that it doesn't exist'. and i think a lot of other people did too, because i really saw like... no one mention it, ever, except for some rogue fanfics over on ff dot net that already liked dynamics like that.
because here's the thing, and i don't know if people nowadays are aware of it? but i'm 80% sure (cannot find a source, so the other 20% is that it was just a rumor) that the show was originally supposed to end after season 6. and even if it's a rumor, it makes a ton of sense, because we get 1) an 'ending' to tobecky, which is a bad one, 2) a permanent wordgirl identity reveal that significantly changes one of the major dynamics in the show, 3) an episode where TJ gets to work with wordgirl and get a nice potential ending for their sibling dynamic, 4) an episode where we see Two-Brains explore life without his henchmen... the list goes on, and idk how many of these are just major stretches. but the point is. if the show had ended there, that would've been a pretty solid ending for many things, including their relationship: aka, it would prove that it was only ever heading somewhere bad, and when tobey finally has his moment of triumph, he is truly evil about it. and this provides us fans who HATE go gadget go with an easy reason to dismiss it - we can say that it was an attempt to conclude things in a way that wouldn't have happened if the writers had known they'd get more time. but despite that... it is still a canon episode.
it is odd to me how dramatically the dynamic shifts after that, though, because we seriously go from 'worst case ever, tobecky is toxic, your ship is dead' to 'no actually they get along and hang out and get ice cream together and tobey isn't even pressuring her into it, she's happy to go along with it :)' like, immediately. i never knew much about the show writers, so i don't know if the writers changed in between these seasons, but i would absolutely not be surprised if they did.
the earlier episodes are definitely problematic as well (though they pale in comparison to GGG) but i think everyone who ships it is aware considering that tobey is, yknow, a villain. from memory, he destroys buildings to get her attention, lies to her about the level of danger that people are in to trick her into spending more time with him, blackmails her into reading his poetry, and he creates a robot based on her that’s supposed to be devoted to him (but of course, all of these things backfire). not great stuff of course, but like... he’s a villain, that’s the point of his character. and considering that he’s a child these are things that can be redeemed, if done thoughtfully.
anyway, to sum up this section, the show starts off with a pretty standard 'enemies with an unrequited crush' setup, takes a really dark turn for a single episode, and then for the rest of the show takes their dynamic in a direction that makes it much, much easier to ship. as long as you ignore a lot of previous content.
wordbot: where's becky's autonomy in all of this? (misogyny)
we've finally gotten to the fandom. i recognize that a lot of this is going to come across as hypocritical considering how active i used to be re: this ship, but like... i'm a very different person now. anyway. disclaimer i guess - i don't write this to accuse all tobecky shippers of being like this - i know a lot of us aren't/weren't! but boy do i have things to point out, so without further ado:
it is very hard to ship this without allowing some bit of misogyny to slip into it. very, very hard. the entire premise of the ship involves a girl falling in love with a boy that repeatedly pressures her to date him via threats to the safety of herself and people she cares about, which... it's 2020, i shouldn't have to explain why that's terrible & a terrible example to set for children (which is why i am glad they never made it canon, tbh). best-case fan content has tobey stop pressuring her and start working to redeem himself out of an actual change of heart, which leads to becky seeing him in a new light. worst-case fan content treats his incessant pressuring and sometimes outright threats as something romantic - and even worse, romantic to the point where he deserves her attention and love as a reward for not giving up or whatever. i did see this pretty frequently for a while, especially in the earlier 2010s (didn't read much, Not My Thing At All), but i don't feel like going into detail here because of how obviously problematic it is. one medium (but still bad) case is where the fan content makes him start his redemption, but treats her liking him back as a reward for not knocking buildings over anymore. another not great case is where she tries to fix him with her love, which is a very common and very dangerous romantic trope. both are just... so incredibly unfair to her.
in content where she tries to 'fix him'... yeah i feel like it's really obvious how misogynistic that is. girls and women should not feel responsible for the evil actions of men, plain and simple. idk what else to say here i just really hate that trope and hated it back then and it just sucks! so can we not do that anymore, thanks.
in content that treats her like a reward for good behavior, there really isn't much of an explanation for what she sees in him. if she just goes 'oh wow, you're good now, i am going to fall in love with you for it' the whole thing falls flat because it makes NO sense whatsoever. we get to hear so much about tobey and his feelings and why he likes her and how he feels about it, but where is that energy for becky? why does she choose to trust him, to spend time around him, what does she enjoy about his presence? where is her getting over scoops in the process of falling for tobey? where is her telling her friends about this, confiding in them, asking them for advice? where is her choice in the matter?
win a day with wordgirl: do you guys even like becky or do you just like the idea of her (misogyny... 2!)
it was pretty standard for all fandoms the early-mid 2010s, but that's still not a good excuse for why so many tobecky fanfictions centered specifically around tobey's feelings while refusing to give becky the same level of empathy and nuance. it is true that to ship them comfortably you have to redeem him to some degree, which means spending time figuring him out and trying to find ways to pull him to the light without feeling super OOC. but ships take two people??? and there was so much potential for fanfics to explore becky's complex feelings on the matter - because she is! complex! she's heroic and kind but she's petty and has a competitive streak, she easily befriends villains but also doesn't trust them and doesn't believe they can ever really change, she's the savior of an entire planet but has feelings of inadequacy as her civilian identity and struggles with feeling like she can be successful without superpowers, she's great at the straightforward meanings and uses of words and loves reading but struggles to write passages that aren't dry as hell, it can be easily headcannoned that she's neurodivergent (special interests, issues with fitting in with her peers, taking things very literally, etc)... seriously there is SO MUCH to explore about her character, and a lot of it comes into play when you add tobey into the mix (literally ALL of the things i mentioned are explored at some point using tobey as a parallel or foil), but i rarely saw fanfiction that explored her thoughts on things further than 'he's evil but... maybe good?' or 'he's evil but... i kind of like him anyway?'.
if you want her to fall for him while being a villain, explore it!! why does she go against her morals? does she lie to herself about it to feel better? does she feel like she has to 'fix him' as part of her superhero duties to the city, and if so, how does that affect her as she tries and fails to help him? does she fall for him when she believes that he's turning good, only to feel betrayed when he starts acting worse because he feels like he can get away with it? it's such a shame that fanworks spend so little time even considering these questions, and it is absolutely a product of how deeply misogyny is/was baked into how we approach media (especially back then).
tobey goes good: but wait, i thought this show was progressive (a conclusion, i guess)
ifbrd wrote a great meta recently about how the show is a bit misogynist, despite being progressive in several ways. honestly i don't have much to add, but i'd really recommend reading through this; it makes a lot of great observations about the ways that male and female characters are presented differently through the show
i have little to add, so i'd just like to conclude with a reflection on the ship from my current viewpoint. i do think part of the reason so many of us latched onto the ship, despite how obviously problematic it was, is that the show treats a lot of things that would be serious in real life as normal or even comedic - which is fine lol, i'm not going to pretend that it's not a show for little kids, so they have to keep the tone light.
but if we, as teens/adults, decide to engage with this content in a more realistic manner, we have to be prepared to confront how messed up so many of the things going on really are. and if you still want to ship it, there's nothing inherently wrong with that! there's a lot of interesting things to explore in this ship, no matter what stage of enemies-to-friends-to-lovers you write them at, and it can be really helpful to have a space where you can explore a dynamic such as this in fiction. (speaking from experience here tbh, writing some fic for them helped me deal with complicated feelings about some ex-longtime friends.)
so to write this ship at all means that there are canon issues that you need to deal with if you want to have them end up in a healthy relationship in any manner that makes sense (unless you create an AU where none of that is applicable, which, power to you then). and i’m not saying ‘write them with a healthy endgame or you’re Bad’, not at all lol. but at least please, please take a step back once in a while to examine the dynamic that you’re writing, and please be careful about whether you mean to be romanticizing whatever behaviors you end up portraying as good.
