i get such a sense of primal envy when looking at edwin’s clothes up close because god you can just tell his coat is real wool and made to last and not cheap flimsy mass produced garbage and auggagghhhh that was just STANDARD in his time. by no means am i saying i was #borninthewronggeneration because i like having vaccines and household appliances but. man. to have a personally-tailored coat like that that’d last for years and years……. and fabrics of fine thread-dense quality………. if only

once again thinking about that post that’s something like “it’s one thing to have a song written about you but infinitely worse to have a love song that used to be about you now be sung to somebody she loves wayyy more”

as many others i also cannot help but be weak towards the thought of neuvillette developing more “beast-like” (dragon-like) traits with the return of his primordial powers. he’s still the firm, gentle, righteous iudex his country has known him for these past 400 years, but people close to him notice some subtle changes — it has gotten easier to notice an irked expression, or how his fingers curl around his cane a bit tighter during a particularly hard trial, or the fact that sometimes when it rains, it pours.

he seems to be especially invested with matters concerning furina. it started right during his meeting with focalors, when she sacrificed herself right in front of his helpless eyes. and what remains, what has always been by his side— furina, is human. mortal. fragile in a way he never expected her to be. so it doesn’t come as a surprise when he gets spotted quite a few times near her apartment, or in her company, drinking some tea (water for him) and eating expensive cakes he knows she adores. and if his hand starts itching when it’s close enough for her to touch it, or if his heart squeezes inside of his chest when he can finally hear her laugh again, or if he learns how anger tastes in his mouth when he hears ignorant citizens bash the former hydro archon… then it should just be a normal display of his renewed powers, shouldn’t it?

i feel like occasionally i have to post valangel like rent-lowering gunshots just so everybody knows what kind of neighborhood they're in

It's important to note that extended use of Lyrium in Templars ( and yes, I'd consider Cullen to be at the 'extended' level shortly before Inquisition starts ) causes permanent memory loss, and delirium. Short term memories are the first to go, forgetting what you did just a moment ago and going to do it again, to forgetting events, people, and even words.

For Cullen, this means that a large chunk of his memories from both the circle in Ferelden and Kirkwall are missing. There are bright spots of course, memories of training, of relief and something close to excitement when the mages in his charge succeeded in their harrowing. But the strongest memories he has from the Circle are the horrific events before, during, and shortly after the fall. He still has brief instances of believing people important to him are illusions, thoughts that he can usually talk himself through quickly. He still has moments where he can feel the scratching of blood magic on the inside of his skull, digging for any and everything to use against him.

Kirkwall is clearer. In fact, it's when he started to have difficulties remembering the earlier days in Kirkwall that he realized he couldn't quite recall Ferelden either, and explaining away the memory loss as just trauma quickly became understanding that his use of Lyrium had reached a tipping point. Continued use would lead into powerful delirium, stronger pangs of need and anger, as well as the increasing likelihood that he would never be able to cut off the use of it without dying.

Despite that, he continued to take the Lyrium he needed until the end of the Kirkwall disaster, and only after he arrived back in Ferelden and he was off that cursed boat did he stop.

Through the withdrawal, both immediate and long lasting, there are moments when he has difficulties differentiating between dream, memory, and waking. Hallucinations of auditory, visual and physical varieties, superimposed over the day to day activities of the inquisition, occasionally only abated by using his abilities to strengthen the veil around him and fully define the reality of the moment.

These are not things he'll talk about, and for the most part they are very difficult to notice. If he's asked about it, he will answer honestly but the topic will not come up otherwise.
