Mini-review:

As I mentioned in a previous post, Mr. Plankton was my most anticipated k-drama of the year. And, while I liked quite a few things about it, I can't help but feel slightly disappointed. For starters, both the plot and the tone are kind of all over the place. There was a lot of potential in this story, but I think the writer didn't know where to put the main focus. Also, the male lead is rather unlikeable, to the point that not even Woo Do Hwan's immense charisma can fully save him; he's definitely an interesting character, but sometimes it gets hard to root for him, especially during the first half. Still, the entire cast delivers powerful performances and the show's sense of humor is pretty funny, so the whole thing ends up being a highly entertaining experience. It wasn't the life-changing drama I expected it to be, but I enjoyed going on this crazy trip with these characters.

DRAMA REVIEW | Perfect Marriage Revenge (2023)

There’s an argument to be made about how Perfect Marriage Revenge had a perfect execution because it was a 12 episodes long drama and didn’t waste time for unnecessary conflicts. Everything took its right time and was resolved in a cohesive way with the characters development.

Both leads were compelling and had amazing chemistry, but the secondary characters were equally interesting to watch. All the performances outstanding and you can tell the actors are enjoying themselves in their respective roles.

On a story about a woman looking for revenge against her own family, this kdrama had a perfect balance between makjang and romcom. Making it an easy and fun watch. I highly recommend it!

see this is what happens when you post sh*t that you wrote at ungodly hours of the morning (unfinished sh*t, i should add) bc of a show that drove you feral during the last two eps, drop it in the fandom tag half coherent and expect it to be seen by two mutuals max. obviously that did not happen, hence it's been less than 24 hours and you are already in my inbox anon sksksksk (and for the uninitiated, the snippet in question)

now. will i finish that sh*t? i want to say yes bc it keeps getting longer so there's a better chance of that happening than, let's say, it languishing in my drafts (at least i f*cking hope so. the RyangHyun fic for My Dearest is past 2500 words and it's still unfinished, writer's block is kicking my ass rip). will i write longer sh*t? maybe? depends on if i finish the first fic, tbh, bc then i can gauge and see how far the brainrot has its roots in me and whether writing a single one-shot and calling it a day will fix it. (knowing my history for queer coded k-dramas/films/international cinema in general, i doubt it will fix it)

if i do end up posting anything, though, i'll link it here too as well bc yk. i'm not that cruel to leave people hanging like that when i've actually finished the fic in question tyvm. i hope all of that made sense somehow i'm still not coherent anyway

Perfect Marriage Revenge

This series is based on the webtoon with the same name. I read the webtoon before watching the series and I must say that I liked the adaptation. It didn't drag the situations, the changes they made worked and I liked the story line.

I liked this series.

Full disclosure: I'm not a huge fan of BL dramas. They rarely work for me tbh, for a wide variety of reasons that I won't go into right now. From time to time I fall for people's raves about one of these shows, only to end up disappointed. And, while this one is better than average, it didn't impress me that much anyway. There's clearly a strong emotional core at the center of the story, but the episodes are too short and everything feels rushed. The thing that saves it is Lee Tae Vin's performance and his fantastic chemistry with Cha Joo Wan; it's thanks to them that the last two episodes hit a lot better than what comes before. But yeah, it's clear that BLs in general just aren't my thing.
