Nobody is asking Yona to sacrifice herself or stay with the dragons forever. That's not why ppl are upset with her imo. What's disappointing was that when the gods say Kouka would turn into hell, we didn't saw any hesitation in her. She could've argued w them or showed some determination like: "hey, I won't let you play with me or my country no matter how hard you try" something she did while zeno was trying to kill himself. But no she's like oh hell sounds fun as long as I'm with my family. She even hesitated when Hak's life seems at stake. So what does it mean? And there's is a difference between her running away from the gods vs Suwon not depending on the gods. She's ok to enjoy the blessings but when it comes to pay back, she's running away. Yona acted like a selfish brat like she used to be in the castle, which is disappointing if we consider her development in the past
I'm not gonna lie in this case I feel like people are just looking for something to be mad at her. Like, in chapter 257, I was more bothered by Yona not hesitating because the consequences of that decision were 100% assured and known : all the dragons of the past waiting and suffering in vain until the current generation. And the whole time paradox twist was a lot to process and swallow in a few pages, that Yona's reaction felt sudden too. I wanted to see her hesitate then because I was affected as a reader by the twist that it was technically Yona that made the cycle happen? Even if from her POV it was about not erasing the past like damn that's a lot.
But the circumstances are not the same at all here imo. Yona has been in this chalice for like an entire volume. She tried already to negociate with the gods. It didn't work. They went against their words. They hurt the dragons. She tried everything she could here. They're basically bullying her, they keep tormenting her, she's not getting through them at all. Yona is affected and upset when they tell her about the dragons' limbs. She came here to begin with to save them, she made a deal with the gods that made her stuck inside the chalice against her will but supposedly in exchange of the dragons being freed, and now she realizes that even that failed and that they lost body parts. It's devastating. And Yona looks sick of it. From this point, it's clear to me she realized it's useless trying to get anything from them, because she won't. They're only toying with her and her feelings. All she can do is leave with them and defuse. There's NOTHING she can do more from the heavens, she can't ask the gods to save the dragons and even less protect Kouka.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yona has been having nightmares about natural disasters and wars breaking out since chapter 257, she's already past hesitating about this too. So I don't mind she doesn't hesitate for it here. Yona in chapter 257 was scared of even falling asleep because she was scared of this future where she's all alone and it's hell everywhere. But she can only stop it by facing it and standing against it. It didn't happen yet, she has to keep her eyes open... She already learned this lesson. As we've seen with Yona protecting Hak from Zeno, her nightmares can be prevented, but this won't be if she stays still in heavens. Staying in a peaceful garden and shivering because intervening outside could cause more problems is much more like Yona of the beginning before her development, than Yona leaving to live in Kouka and fight against problems arising there. Yona was told her existence and actions were a pain that could create more problems at different occasions, and her conviction has always been to make her own place in the world anyways. Before she asks for the gods' divine protection, she should face her own fears and try to do something herself...that's how she always worked. She has always refused to rely on the gods alone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The motif of living outside and in not the most comfortable place but finding purpose in getting through struggles together has been a thing forever that Yona's reaction about life outside being preferable only seems natural to me. I don't know... Her hesitating here would have felt redundant and would have surprised me. Yona has long ago developed the conviction that she finds more purpose in life in the struggles and difficulties because of all the people reaching out their hand to help, than her peaceful and confined, lonely days in the palace. She always found more purpose in helping people on the ground than to take decisions from above. Even in the castle and south kai arcs it was visible how she wanted to go help prisoners herself, and the way she went to rescue Meinyan shows it well too. I don't want her to hesitate for this. She already said she'd rather live in the mud in chapter 263 too. That's the most Yona thing ever imo, it makes me happy personally. It doesn't need to be said she's concerned for others, and she will keep running to their help to do something with her own hands. I don't need her to hesitate because personally I have no conflicted feeling about the situation and I think Yona is 100% right, here. I have no doubt she is intelligent enough at this point to say this too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You could argue it would have been better if she had a speech like the one she had in chapter 43, and I can't argue about that (it's true it's very good!). I can understand, I just personally don't need it, because the fact chapter 43 exists is enough in itself to me and the present automatically resonates with it and everything before. I can't be mad at Yona not saying word for word "I'm going to save people struggling outside" because I already know that. I personally don't need that reassurance at this point.
The chapter shows her being concerned for Kouka and everyone on Earth when she flies on Ouryuu's back. Yona always planned to return from the chalice for everyone and everything she left behind on Earth. Of course she's concerned. She wants to bring her friends back from the chalice AND help everyone in Kouka. She promised Yun she would come back with everyone, she planned to return to Suwon too and not abandon her duties as Princess. All these things exist inside of her. Anyways, Yona doesn't need to tell the gods to stop toying with her country like she did with Zeno before too, because the ways things are presented, it seems like it's not like the gods cause this on purpose either? It's a consequence of everything going to shit, and it's also Ouryuu who is on her side talking to her before she says she prefers hell than here. So she doesn't reply angrily, she replies with hope. That's why that page is beautiful too, imo. The gods might not see and understand the value in such a world that Hiryuu and Yona are so fond of. But they can't help but love this messy, "hellish" world. Talking angrily to the gods didn't work in ch263/264 either, so I feel like it was also her trying a different approach when she told them she would live in Kouka maybe? Like she doesn't want to let herself be affected and be upset by them and she simply, intransigently voices her intentions to them?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You say you don't want her to sacrifice herself and stay with the gods forever, but also accuse her of "running away" from the gods and call her a selfish brat for her reactions in this chapter, so I really don't understand your point here. How on earth is Yona supposed to not depend on the gods in this situation but by not making a deal with them? Staying in Heavens, contract done to protect Kouka from doom and ending it at that (because she would be stuck there) would be truly the coward move imo. Yeah she's turning back and trying to get out of Heavens but... it's...good to stop moving forward and further if doing so brings you to extreme loneliness and/or death I think...? I think that's the point...Getting desperate, leaving everything behind and sacrificing more and more of your true wants and isolating yourself has been a pattern that never brought anything good to the characters that tried before. She struggles and things didn't happen as expected, many things are still unresolved, but she can only do so much in this situation. She tried. She tried discussing with the gods, asking them to free the dragons, to let her out. It didn't work, it was a blow on her when they forced her under a sea of flowers, when they tried torturing Zeno, and when she learned the dragons got injured. From that, she adapted and tried to leave. That's it.
I think Yona wavering when they threaten to kill Hak and what it means is pretty simple and is no secret. Yona loves and cares about Hak. Hak is someone important, personal and intimate to her, so obviously she's not unaffected. Yona from the very beginning has been trying to get stronger and do all she could to protect Hak again and again. Losing people dear to her is what scares her more than anything, it always has been so, even if it coexists with her caring about the world around her too. And you know, even if Hak is special to her, I honestly think that if the gods had threatened the lives of the dragons and not only their limbs, Yona would have been affected too. She would have also faltered had they threatened the life of people she doesn't know in the same terms. It's just extra cruel to use Hak in particular against her. It shows again the gods atp are only interested in destroying everything that might be connecting Yona to Earth. It's the exact same form of abuse that Chagol used against Meinyan. It's about isolating her. It's also not really the same as claiming people will die without the gods' divine protection that is more like a potential consequence than a term of a contract like it is at the end of the chapter. She can stand against conflicts outside and protect people there, but what can she do against Hak just, being killed by divine intervention if she doesn't return to heavens (supposedly)? They fucking coerce her here. Maybe it's just bluff, and she should not give a fuck about Hak and still leave. After all, what is one person against the world and her freedom! But well, she cares. She never discarded her loved ones and never compromised Hak and her friends' life. She never compromised the life of anyone really (which is different from sparing and refusing to kill anyone). That's who Yona is. Yona doesn't sacrifice and compromise people's lives, That's why she wants to save everyone AND wants to go home. And that's why she's stuck now. Yona wants to live. But she can't sacrifice someone innocent either, especially not someone she loves. It's the perfect dilemma for her. And that she's forced into it is what is heartbreaking. She shouldn't have to choose. That's why she needs help now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bringing up payback like this rubs me a bit in the wrong way...This damn idea of paying back is what has been haunting the narrative for so many years i can't conceive repeating it for Yona too. To me it comes from the same mindset that asks for retribution, punishment and karma for every character that upset Yona in some way or should be grateful and kneel to her and Hak that has been so sickening for so long. I don't want anyone to be forced to pay anything back ever. Every character should get all the help and support they need for free at all times imo. I don't think Yona nor the dragons should have to pay such a harsh price either. Because that's what a blessing is. That's what love and kindness are. That's what wishes are. If the gods really cared for Hiryuu, they wouldn't ask her anything in return, they wouldn't torment her, they wouldn't punish the dragons either. It can just...stop. (Because yes this favor shouldn't be at all to begin with) Which is what Yona wants.
Aren't we so tired of all this "contracts" and "punishment" and "paying back" bullshit by now? I so am. It's exactly what has been ruining the lives of the characters forever and now (and my mental health as a reader lol). She's paying back right now by being in this situation already. And that's not a good thing at all. It's very good narratively though because yeah, they want her to pay back! They make this about contract when she was asking a favor! She's paying the price for her decision in ch257, for ever using the dragons, for entering the chalice as Hiryuu's reincarnation...But it's nothing but sad. There doesn't need to be this payback. That's what the story is exploring. Looking for the dragons to survive (whom she never forced, even if yes they were bound by their contract thing) and protect Hak is not a crime, not erasing the past to save her friends isn't so evil that she deserves to sacrifice herself. Making it end is enough. It may be selfish that yeah she enjoyed the good parts of it until it bothered her but honestly I think it's okay lol. As long as it ends. As long as no one has to pay back anything for doing their best to survive and struggling to protect something. Like Meinyan doesn't need to apologize or to pay back anyone for all she did and was done for her, just like Suwon doesn't need to be even and be punished, like Shinah doesn't need to executed for attacking Suwon, like Zeno doesn't need to be punished for betraying Yona and the ddhhb, etc... Because it's better to look at the bigger picture and at people's circumstances you know...That's how I interpret this arc, at least.
Tumblr media
Yona doesn't pay back by sacrificing things, she "pays back" by giving back out of gratitude. That's precisely what she does by doing all she can to save the dragons right now. The dragon warriors gave her so much without ever asking anything back, they saved her from danger and they saved her from despair, she's so grateful and loves them so deeply she wants to bring them happiness too. But Yona can't give the Gods what they want without sacrificing important things to her, and not when they're the way they are now. So she can only leave.
Tumblr media
Of course Yona/Hiryuu alone getting this treatment from the gods was always unfair and it shouldn't be at all, especially not at the cost of so many dragons suffering for so long. But well, she did. And when learning how this "favor" was hurting the people around her, she was affected, grieved it in ch253/254, and then she opposed it and tried to stop it in the present. (Also she's been concerned by the dragons' use of their powers for a very long time even if she doesn't go deeper) But the gods don't care. You can blame her for not questioning things more before, I'm critical of this too, I still conflicted about chapter 257 as well, plus everything irt the crimson illness etc but like, she says it, she doesn't want their powers if that's the price. She only wants the human them. She doesn't need the dragons' powers and she doesn't need the gods' protection. When she throws away Hiryuu's sword they give her, it's her rejecting that again. She doesn't want that special power and favor, that's not what she's asking. She wants agency and power, but not at the price of the agency and free will of others. She wants everyone to have normal lives where they can decide things for themselves, to live with their whole free will. That's her development in this arc. I like that she finally faces these things.
Maybe it's just a question of preference, and you might be affected by Yona's reactions in a way I can't relate. But personally I like the chapter this way and I like Yona in it. I don't think she's a selfish brat (god. it's...such a thing to call her honestly it irks me sorry, despite all criticisms I have of her character.) I don't think she doesn't care about Kouka and its people at all. Ive seen people say that too but...Even if yes Yona is still a 16 years old girl with struggles and feelings and still some immaturity which is important to take into account, I don't think she's as childish and inconsiderate as people make her either. People often seem to say her reactions and decisions are emotional and with no reason but I think they're emotional AND with reason, at least here. Yona doesn't say this about Kouka struck by disasters being preferable than Heavens from emotions alone (because yes, she just wants to go home and she genuinely loves the people in Kouka), but also from experience and conviction. They don't cancel each other out. It doesn't make her a hypocrite to have personal interests in it too.
#akayona thoughts#any spoilers#yona#yona can care about her friends first my king will take care of the country#cousins of cleaning each other's mess...really i just feel sm peace in my heart when i think of the way they rely on eo and support eo now.#suwon who can also follow his heart more and return to kuuto bc he knows yona will come back oughhh...i care so much...#i have to confess i really see no difference between yona 'running away' from the gods and suwon not depending on them.#like suwon doesnt run away from them bc the gods arent...running after him and don't love him. so his refusal to use their powers is that#but for yona to not depend on them she has no choice but to run away. they keep chasing her now. and pushing her to depend on them#they hate suwon but at least suwon is free on this regard lol. for now at least. mom im scared#and when the narrative pushed and forced the dragons and yona on him he had to accept it too in the end. painfully.#it was part of the process...it's all part of the process....(head in hands)#and even when you had like dragon shinah suwon didnt avoid it and run. was that the good mature thing to do bc it was payback?#if it is i wish he was more of a selfish brat too then! i wish he had ran for it! it's not mature and selfless to me it's just...suicidal.#heartbreaking. painful. sad. tragic. makes me throw up everywhere.#so i'm glad yona is the way she is. one suwon is enough.#and no suwon is not enough at all. save me suwon#im not gonna lie having to like...break down yona's every thought word and action was tiring and not very enjoyable to me here.

Putting on my character analysis hat for Su-won lately. Spoilers for current official release, about volume 36 to be safe.
The fundamental conflict with him and what makes him such an interesting character is that he is kind, compassionate and loves his friends deeply. But he also won’t prioritise that love over what he sees as the greater good. This is how he can love Yona and Hak more than anyone and grieve their loss, grieve their pain and regret their parting, while still ruthlessly carrying out the plot that caused that pain. But I loosely recall a scene where Yona confronts him over what his father did to Xing, where he promised to release civilian prisoners but instead beheaded them by the hundreds and threw their heads over the walls. And Su-won dismissively says that such things often happen in war, or that they’re sometimes necessary, but when Yona presses him on this he seems shocked and angry.
Unfortunately I don’t have that particular volume with me but assuming my memory holds true... Isn’t that interesting? Why would he care what she thought? Surely as detached as he is from sentiment, he would recognise his father’s flaws while still loving him? I think Su-won is very aware of his father’s legacy. He abides by his words and his methods in ruling the country, trying to discard sentiment in order to take precise and direct action. But his father caused everything about the current predicament with Yona because of his love for lady Yon-hi. He couldn’t discard sentiment no matter how much he talked about doing what was needful.
His father impulsively slaughtered priests and the queen in order to protect his mother, without considering how King Il might take revenge or what position that would place their family in long-term. I think Su-won tells himself that he won’t act for personal interest or love when it comes to Yona and Hak precisely because he’s aware of that very thing being his father’s downfall.
But he hasn’t considered his own feelings for his father. Because his father is dead. He hasn’t yet considered that he’s being held back by his love for his father, that maybe his father wasn’t the perfect general he believed him to be. A mass slaughter of civilians and throwing their heads over the walls doesn’t match with ‘doing what is necessary’ and not being swayed by emotion, so there must have been a reason for it. Such things do happen in war time, there must have been context. It couldn’t possibly be because his father was a blood thirsty tyrant who wasn’t fit for the throne any more than Il was. There is definitely a lingering sense of that in his actions, in how he didn’t want to kill Il until he was sure he was unfit. But I don’t think he’s quite ready to grapple with it yet. Su-won is someone without faith. He’s dying from a disease inflicted by the gods as a result of their meddling in human affairs. He should have been king but was instead forced into the role of a usurper through duty and because apparently no one else is going to save this mess of a country, and he can’t even have the luxury of his loved ones by his side. No wonder he doesn’t want anything to do with the dragons. I also wonder how much he believes in Kei-suk. He’s a smart boy, but I do wonder if being so smart from such a young age was something of a detriment, as he was left to take all this on alone.
And if I can speculate for a bit, I think he might survive. Because Yona is coming to the end of her arc on revenge vs compassion, which leaves the lingering question of how she deals with Su-won long-term. He and Hak have a lot to sort out, so he needs to survive long enough for Hak to let go of revenge. Hak is being eaten alive right now, if Su-won dies, that won’t ever end. And Su-won needs to realise that he’s not alone. That he doesn’t have to be bound up in duty all alone. Yona’s strength is in compassion and relying on her friends. Su-won seems to be juggling a lot of allies who all want something from him other than himself.
If this story is about breaking cycles of revenge, it’s also about breaking the circle of suffering inflicted by the dragons and the chains of duty. A lot has been written about how generations of humans have died for nothing, waiting for the return of the king. And Su-won’s bloodline has been compared to the dragons, simply waiting for the return without even a true duty to sustain them. They have only an early death with none of the glory. And I think breaking the cycle is incomplete if it doesn’t break the illness too. You could cure that one other lady whose name I forget, but it wouldn’t have as much impact.

[PT: “Is it Yona's place to decide that their pain outweighed their happiness? and thus they should all be erased from existence?”. end PT.]
i can see the argument about the lack of reflection.. personally that didn’t bother me because we’ve seen repeatedly how quickly yona can asses a situation and act accordingly (without the readers necessarily being privy to her thoughts) so i just assumed that she did weigh the pros and cons in this case too because like. why wouldn’t she. also dreams can be fickle things and there’s no guarantee she would’ve had time to ponder, and she was already desperate, so i get why her response was so quick.
i’ve made the same point about moments of joy in another reblog on this post, but i also have the need to reiterate that everyone chose to live for as long as they could despite the pain, and the ability to have agency over anything is that much more valuable when there are so many things that u can’t control, so taking that away would be immeasurably cruel. zeno’s an exception here since he can’t die, and if the current conflict were Purely about zeno wanting to die vs yona wanting him to live, i might feel differently about yona’s actions but zeno’s totally disregarding the other dragon warriors’ thoughts and feelings on the matter—he didn’t even bother to ask them!—and regardless of how much i want him to finally experience peace, whether it’s through death or getting to grow old, i simply don’t think his wants take precedence over the other dragon warriors’, especially when throughout the series there’s been an emphasis on letting them make their own choices. and yona’s decision ultimately does let them have agency.
(brief tangent but i’ve seen some people bring up that everyone would still be alive if yona had made a different choice, just not connected to the dragon gods, but that’s a frankly ridiculous assumption to me. like i thought everyone knew about the butterfly effect lmao.)
anyway yeah exactly if yona had made a different choice people would be criticizing that too, and unduly harshly at that. because god forbid a teenage girl ever make a narratively compelling decision!
hm. i apparently have an unpopular opinion about yona’s decision during her conversation with hiryuu…… like. obviously she’s motivated by the desire to save her friends—she loves them and cares about them deeply and is scared of losing them—and there’s some selfishness in that (on a more facetious note though, god forbid teenage girls do anything i guess…). but the interpretation of her decision as selfish to the point of cruelty and/or naïveté just doesn’t sit right with me. like there is no solution to the conundrum she was presented with that doesn’t involve tragedy. and i’m never, ever letting anyone forget that jaeha, gija, and sinha were never given a choice regarding zeno’s whole murder-suicide plan, and they don’t regret being alive, so wouldn’t changing the past and effectively erasing them from existence (when they already have no agency atm!!!!) be so much more cruel? wouldn’t discarding two millennia worth of lives, regardless of how painful they’d been, be so much more cruel? does a life lived not matter because there was suffering?
and yona values life, even when it hurts, so she was never gonna make a different choice, and i just don't think that that's extremely selfish or naïve of her; the dragon warriors are not just vessels for the gods, they're people, and they don't deserve to be erased because the gods don't care about the pain they cause, and she can't confront the gods in the dream realm, she has to do it in her present which can't exist if she changes it! (also on a purely narrative level, any other choice would've basically rendered 40+ volumes of the story pointless.) and besides, it's more interesting to focus on trying to make things better rather than rewriting the past, and she'll have to sacrifice something to save everyone (the part of her that's a reincarnation of hiryuu, obviously, and possibly something more) which will even things out anyway.

Akatsuki no Yona chapter 217
Loved seeing a bit of insight on Soo-Won's ways of dealing with feelings. Boxes and suppression. Yeah really got me convinced he genuinely loves them still, despite of what happened
Looking for Hak unconsciously ofc, despite his will
The fraction between Gods vs People theme still going strong
Yona and the bunch wanting to leave right after the war to look for Hak ofc. Ha Soo-Won I bet you miss her support already. Like he seemed so moved when she promised to be there for him if he fell ill?
Awww the feels. Idk it's all so complicated. The Hiryuu castle feels right for the dragons, Hak and Soo-Won feel right for each other as allies, the trio is still the closest bittersweet thing, torn part through things they didn't directly choose...can they ever make up?
This is leading to some kind of resolution and peace between them just so we can cry our eyes out when Soo-Won dies. Or what if it doesn't? What if fulfilling the legend means the end for the illness and the dragon suffering?
The manga is really excellent in keeping readers invested through mysteries and unresolved questions. And relationships.
I loved the part with Jea Ha realizing Yona was crying to Soo-Won while putting up a smile for the dragons. He is so cool and insightful!
Yeah she cares more about not hurting you. She doesn't worry about it that much with Soo-Won
Hak in the pile of corpses! So weak and battered he couldn't even walk! So hurt and vulnerable in enemy territory
Also how does someone so selfless as Hak exist?! Worry about the herbs, Yoon, not himself before the flood and now he was again worried about the pouch...😭
Who is this mother and her son? Why did she help Hak? Did she recognize him? From where?
What if this really will lead to some big reveal about Hak? What if he is a kid from South Kai? What if he is related to their scary generals?
What would it mean if Hak ended up being some kind of Kai nobility anyway? I don't think it would change how he would feel...what would be the effect thematically, explaining his exceptional power with lineage?
I'm worried about Hak being captured or used or something for the upcoming conflict 😭

hi anon!!
i definitely do!! i mean, im not sure what you’re into so ill give you a great long list with lot’s of different options!!! this will mostly be anime but at the end ill include a few manga. i tend to watch anime vs read manga.
violent/horror/gore/supernatural (& i mean it. skip this first set if you cant handle gore or graphic content)
berserk. both the 90s / new remake are great. there’s also movies that go through the entire story arc. but this one is VERY dark & very graphic.
attack on titan. AMAZING.
goblin slayer. so fucking good. 10/10. still waiting on the next season.
blood+ great story with a great love story.
elfen lied. creepy and fantastic.
another. i dont think this one was as graphic, but creepy. i havent seen it in a while though so i could be wrong.
re:zero. a thriller sort of anime with some graphic content.
boku dake ga inai machi / erased. HOLY SHIT SO GOOD. main character can reset 7min before accidents happen & he sets out to find out what happens to a childhood friend.
higurashi no naku koro ni kai. cute killer girls. kind of dated, but still worth the watch. has amazing music.
kiseijuu sei no kakuritsu
slice of life / chances are it will destroy your life & make you cry
koe no katachi / a silent voice. it’s about bullying & the aftermath of it.
kimi no na wa / your name. this one is a movie. boy and girl wake up in each other’s bodies.
ao haru ride. SOOOOOOO GOOD HOLY SHIT. incredible love story. incredible characters. fantastic all around
ano hi mita hana no namae wo bokutachi wa mada shiranai. be prepared to cry many tears. a story about friendship & ghosts.

nagi no asu kara. beautiful animation, wonderful story. about people who live under the sea and on land.
fruits basket 2019 reboot. this is my first time enjoying this series. i love it. cute animation, awesome story.
action anime (could have hints of violence but not like the first list)
akatsuki no yona / yona of the dawn. SO GOOD. I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH HOW GOOD THIS ONE IS. it only has one season, but the manga? read it if you enjoy the first season. it’s about a spoiled pampered princess & her forever loyal bodyguard + the loyal “dragons” that come to follow her. lots of action, romance, and amazing relationships between the entire cast of characters.
seirei no moribito. female lead character protecting a royal boy. fantastic.
the rising of the shield hero SOOOOO GOOD.
demon slayer. brother sets out to save his sister. it’s a nice story. great animation.
fate / zero. lots of seasons + a movie or two. has a touch of history.
sword art online. just the first two seasons.
is it wrong to try and pick up girls in a dungeon? on the side. this one is the same story as  this one  just from another point of view. both are good.
classic anime that everyone should watch just because
sailor moon / sailor moon crystal. crystal has done through infinity arc & the dream arc is coming next fall. it follows the manga a lot closer than the 90s anime ever did and even if a lot of people didn’t like the animation, i loved it. especially for the second season / r arc.
inuyasha. fantastic story, amazing love story. the characters are great. and despite being older, it doesnt feel dated. the final arc was fantastic & tugged at my heartstrings over and over again
trigun. i havent watched this one in YEARS but i always enjoyed it. probably a little dated by now.
yu yu hakusho. also a little dated, im here still hoping for a reboot someday.
chobits. really cute!!
naruto shippuden. literally no reason to watch naruto (220 episodes lmao) because a quick google search would explain the story. just watch shippuden but for the love of god skip the filler  there’s also a bunch of movies. dont bother with boruto. also has amazing openings/endings.
rurouni kenshin / samurai x. you can honestly jsut watch the movies. ESPECIALLY TRUST & BETRAYAL. that movie is one of my favorites. i actually rewatched this series… two summers ago? its held up well despite being older.
avatar the last airbender.
anything studio ghibli.
manga
sailor moon, the manga is so fucking good. ive read it so many times, it never gets old. it’s my favorite canon of the series.
akatsuki no yona. i cant even with this manga. again, 10/10. its one of my favorites. if the first season of the manga interested you, watch it and continue the manga. it’s still ongoing.
love so life. age difference romance. a high school student is the babysitter for two adorable twins that are being raised by their uncle. literally so good.
faster than a kiss. another age difference romance. a teen girl and her baby brother are orphaned and eventually alone. her teacher takes them in. another amazing story.
sorry this got kind of long, i hope you find something here you like!! let me know if you do!!!!

OKAY BUT YONA THEORY TIME
Soo Won says Yona’s dad, Il, killed his dad, Yu Hon.
We know Il (and Yona’s mom!) were aware their child was a reincarnation of the crimson dragon king somehow.
We now know that Soo-won’s Mom was actually Dying of Crimson Dragon Disease and so is Soo Won
What if Yu-hon wanted to take out all the dragon descendants or something similarly rash to "cure” his family? Or something else dragon related that would put Yona in danger? What if the one time in his life Il turned to violence was to protect Yona, and he ended up killing his own brother? What if Yona’s mom was involved in all that somehow?
I don’t know what happened, but I think in the direction this arc is going and the shots of foreshadowing of how Il treated Soo-Won, the conflict between the two could have been something like Il wanting to preserve the protection of the four dragons and wanting some “destined/sanctioned by the gods” things to play out so his daughter would be okay vs Yu-hon being like “fuck the gods, look what its done to my family' and wanting to upend everything. How the rest of the nation would be involved with the gods plans vs without them could have been a point of conflict as well.
POSSIBLY.

Tumblr media
Really i swear it doesn't make any sense to me like that's literally Suwon's coronation speech too. And his speech to Kija in the sei forts arc that everyone love. I don't get it. The gods are literally what is standing in their way right now. Fuck the power of the gods really! Yona validates everything people have always said. She also rejected it when they gave her Hiryuu's sword to kill Zeno and then she threw it away. She doesn't want that power and authority over her friends' life either. And yeah not gonna lie it's very easy to imagine that if Yona had accepted to stay, people would have criticized her for it too, like when back in the day she was blamed for accepting Keishuk's alliance.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But I sometimes observe it's a bit like people are convinced that anything that is said and done in the present means that nothing before matter for some reason. Like, if there weren't 45 volumes before of Yona very much doing all she can to help people in all kind of tragedies and disasters, I would be conflicted too, but I don't think she needs to prove her good will on this regard at this point. It's more than obvious to me that the second she could leave the chalice she would do everything to help people like before. It doesn't even need to be said, really. That's what she ALWAYS does. She said that she wants to think of ways to end war in chapter 239, and wanting to save her friends now doesn't change that. It coexists.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wouldn't call accepting to make a new contract with the gods a reasonable solution in preventing wars anyways, like,,, wars have been happening even with their so called divine protection lol. It's true that Yona doesn't defend her decision in details like that, but these things can be infered from "even if Kouka is hell, it's still much better than a world of light with no one in it" really... She says this from experience. Even if she's been going through many painful things again and again, she still cherishes it far more than heavens. Things have been hard, but things have been resolved and turned for the best, too.
This hell/heavens metaphor has been used since the south kai arc. Meinyan says that in the depths of hell, she found the thing she yearned for her whole life. Chagol was also manipulating her, telling her to go back to Kai because Kouka is hell and only him will accept her. The final page of ch267 is even the exact same as when Chagol caught Meinyan in Kuuto! It's just. Everything is there. After all, Chagol was wrong, because Kuuto is still standing, and Kouka is not hell at all. It's not paradise either. It's just not black vs white / hell vs heavens. It's being isolated and kept prisoner by someone else abusing their power that is hell. It's the same.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yona was never a self sacrificial character to begin with. She gives a lot to others, puts her entire body and soul even if that hurts her to help people sure, but it's never at the cost of her own life. She will give her limbs, but not her entire life. Wasn't her whole plan in the south kai arc where she pretends to be a hostage and let herself be executed by Chagol to actually turn the situation around about this already? She's not like that, she doesn't make herself the martyr. She will take blows for others but she will still fight to survive. Yona giving up on her own life(which staying in heavens as been equated to by ouryuu in the previous chapter) and happiness would be the out of character and upsetting thing to me. Yona doesn't submit and sacrifice herself, she fights and faces everything head on, that's exactly what makes her the hero of Akatsuki no Yona.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But right now, Yona is struggling. She doesn't have the upper hand in this situation unlike with Chagol before. Even when Keishuk threatened Hak's life in the castle arc, she had more leeway, the dynamic was more balanced, the dragons were enough as an argument to stop Keishuk. But it doesn't work here, the dragons can't win against the gods. She tried to negociate the dragons turning back to normal human, and even that didn't work, on top of them losing their limbs in gruesome ways, and they are stuck with her outside fo Zeno too... She can't fairly negociate anything because Yona has no power if they decide to just not respect their terms, which they haven't so far. Why on earth would she make a deal with the gods again after all this? The sky had turned dark and earthquakes started before she talked about leaving too. That would be the exact same as what she pointed out to Zeno in ch261 about him asking her to kill him because he's desperate, even if that's not what he wants.
And I suspect we're gonna see next how true all that is now that they use Hak against her. I'm not sure how she will react next to their irrational "contract" with Hak's life on the line, but either way, it's true hell, it's coercion, it's not what anyone but the gods wants. ( also honestly, if the gods had used the dragons' life instead of Hak, and not just their limbs, I'm sure Yona would have wavered too, it's just extra evil that it's Hak lol.) Yona is a bit in the same position as Meinyan was before, and that's why now she also needs outside help. She knows Suwon and Hak are looking for them outside, and she knows Zeno and ouryuu will be there too, so I'm not sure how much she will panic and how much she will be able to trust they can do something...but she did all she could here for now. It's Hak and Suwon's turn to act. Yona can't save the world and resolve everything alone and that's good storytelling. She needs a connection.
Basically the most important point imo is that Yona is in a position of weakness in front of the gods right now, so she can't just, take the right decision with them and get anything out of negociation with them? It doesn't exist, not with them. It would be like blaming Meinyan for staying with Chagol or not. Was she selfish when she escaped even if that meant killing Rantan, even if that meant letting Chagol abuse everyone around him and not shield Kaji like she did before for example? Maybe so, she escaped for herself, but there was nothing wrong in pursuing her own freedom and I'm glad she tried, and felt terrible for her when she gave up. When she submitted and returned to Chagol, it rejoiced no one. That's not what anyone wants. It shouldn't be like that at all. Staying with Chagol didn't stop him from hurting everyone else, and it's similar right now with the gods. I don't think they will just stop. They were already unfair and cruel before losing their powers and reason.
The best decision Yona could ever make is to not participate further with this gods/ divine bullshit and deal with things her own way like she always did so, good that she tried! I would even say that yes embracing her role as Hiryuu's reincarnation was doomed to fail and bring her to a place she can't turn back from to begin with. It was a bit reckless...I'm glad she tried, and it wasn't completely meaningless. But yeah... she needs to be freed from her own chains with the gods too, just like everyone else.
TLDR:
Tumblr media
Chapter 267 ramble
I said this about Suwon last time but I think we should all read akayona with more emotions sometimes maybe. like, in general. for everyone. I don't want Yona to be Suwon and to only think of the greater good. I want Suwon and Yona to coexist, like they've been working on for a while now. I don't like the theory that Suwon will die to save Hak and/or Yona, I don't think it's good and I don't think it makes sense with what the story has been exploring and conveying so far, and I would feel the same if it was Yona or anyone instead of Suwon. Anyone sacrificing themselves to appease/please the gods would be the lamest conclusion ever. The story hasn't been subtle about challenging the notions that sacrifices, punishments and now contracts are necessary. Like,, no they're not. They need everyone here.
I was more sceptical when Yona didn't hesitate at all in chapter 257, but here I don't think it's an issue. Like first, we see her be affected and waver when the gods use the dragons' limbs against her. She recovers her composure because dragons are here and tell her to not worry about this. But more importantly, Yona has known hell, and it's there that she met people reaching out their hands to others in need again and again, and this is what inspired her to fight and bring help to those in need back. It's in hell she met her friends, her family and was moved by people's kindness again and again. She has no reason to be scared of what the gods are warning her about, she has known wars, she has known disasters. She will just stand against everything the future throw at her like she said in ch257. She loves the mess that is Kouka Kingdom and its people. I don't think there was anything better she could have done in her situation. She doesn't have the means and power to do anything but either submit to the gods or escape, she needs outside help. Yona is not responsible for the dragons losing their limbs, nor for Kouka's current state. The gods are the only ones being unreasonable and irrational here, you just can't win against something irrational like that, she can only leave.
Moreover, I don't want Yona to decide the terms of Kouka's future for everyone like a god, and the best way to do that is again to leave, not make any deal with the gods, and face everything on Earth as a human like she always did, which she's exactly what she's trying to do in ch267. Yona already said she's resolved to find ways to bring an end to wars, we've seen her participate to help out tribes and countries and people again and again. That's what she does. Relying on a contract with the gods (even though we have seen how damaging and harmful it is on the long run! again and again! and they're not reliable! Don't we all want the gods to just stop with their vows and contracts and prophecy and rules already?) is the easy, coward way out. Humans don't need the powers of the gods. They don't need divine protection. They have accomplished everything by fighting as they are. Yona was helped by the gods' powers sure, but her development is about being strong enough to not depend on her friends' powers, and it's most of all the characters trying to help out others that truly accomplish things. The people on Earth are all working hard to help each other out and deal with each problem together, even now. They will manage, they will be fine. Let's believe in the power of people. All they need is the human Yona too, and the humans four dragons, and the humans Suwon and Hak. All of Kouka need to be freed from the gods' supervision.
Literally no one right now is asking for anything the gods have ever been doing, they only ever did this for themselves. The gods are fear mongering right now, and I don't think it's worth falling into the trap of believing all life is doomed without their protection like they want us to. I don't think they're objective. They always considered humans were stupid detestable creatures that are destined to destroy themselves without their intervention. I don't think they realize how resilient people on Earth are. (Lili alone would gag them!) Natural disasters are one thing, but how do they know wars will be break out? Wars are started and enacted by people, and are stopped by people as well. We have seen characters facing sort of natural disasters (even if it wasn't natural back then) by working out together during the flooding of Kin Province for example, or when Kuuto was burned down. People have infinite ressources when they work together. Suwon is resolved to find a way to bring back the sky knowing he can't influence the Gods too. It's their business. It's their country. Yona belongs to Earth and people in Kouka want her back because she is waited for, loved, and needed as the human Yona there. Like it is the case for every other character.
I think the theory of Suwon dying and sacrificing himself has no solid basis either. Like, I don't know, he might consider it, but I just don't think it will happen and if it goes there, it will be prevented. I may be naive, but to me the story is conveying that it's not something wishable? Suwon doesn't need to die and wait for punishment (or """redemption""" like I've seen some call it) to be "even". Suwon can live, and find the best path where no one has to be sacrified and punished, himself included. Isn't it what chapter 262 ends on? It's not about equivalent exchange and balance, it's about love and hope for the future. Characters in akatsuki no yona have been giving without expecting anything in return again and again, even if they were hurt before, this is the crux of it to me. This is the nature of Hiryuu's actions in the past too. So no ending can be satisfying if the Gods don't do the same. (Or else just vanish forever.) Without mentioning that it has been established Suwon wants to live. Like, even with what looks like passive suicidal ideation, Suwon wants to live. He can't help being curious about what will happen next. He simply needs help to believe a better future for him is possible too.
And this help can still come. The story isn't over yet. Zeno is still immortal, the dragons have lost their limbs, are not even truly back to normal and are stuck in the chalice, Yona is stuck too, the crimson illness is still a thing etc.. Let's not rush things, and let's look at the bigger picture and find a better solution than just sending anyone that pleases the gods to heavens so they're happy and give everything else ppl want in exchange.

Signups are closed, and the FTH mods will spend the next couple weeks organizing the form responses into Dreamwidth posts and getting all the tags done so that browsers can search by fandom, fan creator, fanwork type offered, rating, and more. Browsing week starts 2/17, and when it comes around, bidders will have the opportunity to view all 748 (yes! seven hundred forty eight!) offerings in 298 (!!) fandoms. That’s ... staggering.
Of those 298 fandoms, 182 were ‘Other’ fandoms that were written in on the contributor’s sign up docs. Posted below is the whole list of all 182 fandoms. Topping the list is Mo Dao Zu Shi / The Untamed, with 9 contributors interested in creating fanworks for it. Just below that, with 7 contributors, is Yu Yu Hakusho. Tied for third place, with 6 write-ins each, are Bungou Stray Dogs, Kingdom Hearts, and Shadowhunters.
The rest of the list under the cut.

REYLO VS YONA OF THE DAWN
Post written by ME. The animated gifs present in this post AREN’T MINE and DON’T HAVE ANY WAY TO ME! Akatsuki no Yona ("Yona of the Dawn") is a 2009 historical/adventure/sentimental Manga, written and designed by Mizuho Kusanagi, of which Studio Pierrot produced Anime adaptation, formed by a total of 24 episodes and an OAV. In reality, story told in Yona and that told in Star Wars Episode VII and VIII, are totally different, however there are parallels between two stories make it possible to realize DIFFERENT stories from same narrative themes ... Orphaned of a mother, Yona is princess and heir to Kingdom of Kouka’s throne, daughter of King Il, head of Clan of Heaven and single ruler, recognized like King by other clans leaders: Wind, Earth, Water and Fire. In reality, King Il is considered weak and cowardly, because of his hatred of weapons and his policy of no violence. Unlike her father, Yona is lively, restless and adventurous. Since childhood she has shared her time with Son Hak, now head of the Wind clan and her faithful bodyguard, nicknamed "Lightning beast" for his superhuman strength and speed and devastating power of his blows, and his cousin Soo-won, cheerful, kind and carefree son of Ju-Hon, brother of King Il and undefeated general of army to protect Kouka’s kingdom. Everyone believed Ju-Hon should have become King, but when his father chose Il as sovereign, Ju-Hon left castle, promising to continue to defend the Kingdom and his brother from afar. Five days before her sixteenth birthday, Yona receives Soo-won’s visit to castle, returned to participate in her celebrations. Yona is determined to confess her love to Soo-won, unaware Hak has loved her in silence for years. Yona faces two painful obstacles: Soo-won claims to consider her like a younger sister and he said he can’t see her as a woman while, without explaining reason to her, King Il declares he will NEVER give Yona allowed to marry Soo-won. He will never have to become King, which would happen if he married Yona. Meanwhile, Hak notices climate has changed in castle, but his premonition is too vague and Hak fails to focus on it. One evening Yona is chased by someone who sneaks into castle, but she’s rescued by Soo-won and intruder seems to disappear. On birthday, Soo-won gives Yona a beautiful and precious hair clip. Unable to sleep that same night, Yona goes to her father's rooms to inform him that she will never forget Soo-won but as soon as she opens door she sees a chilling scene: Soo-won puts a sword in King Il's heart, killing him in front in her eyes. Noticing her presence, Soo-won is surprised and disappointed Yona was still awake and explains to girl that he had killed King Il for revenge. For some time, in fact, Soo-won had discovered his father hadn’t died from an accident like everyone else, including Yona, knew, but he had been killed with sword, by King Il immediately after he ascended the throne. Soo-won also claims that after killing King II, to honor his father's wishes, he would become King. Yona doesn’t believe a word, but she hasn’t time to assimilate news, ‘cause Kye - Sook, intruder who had threatened her night before and Soo-won's aide, seeing Yona was witness to King Il assassination, advised Soo-won to kill her. Yona runs away, but Soo-won's guards manage to capture her. Fortunately, Hak arrives to save Yona. Thanks to Min-Soo, faithful servant, Hak and Yona manage to escape from castle. Soo-won unleashes soldiers on their tracks, with order to capture them, while he is crowned new King of Kouka, declaring he will crush anyone who will oppose him. Yona and Hak hide in Capital Fuuga, Hak's hometown. Here Yona takes decision to fight for her life and prevent Hak from dying. Having heard of girl's decision, Son Mundok, adoptive father of Hak and former General of Wind’s clan, in King Il’s service, sent Hak and Yona in search of Ik-Soo, a monk capable of listening and reporting God’s voice, in past adviser to King, then chased from castle. Learning of Yona's will to fight, Ik-Soo advises her and Hak to look for four dragons from which kingdom and its tribes were born. Four boys who were infused with blood and powers of Dragons who reigned in sky, destined to protect the Red Dragon with every means, as soon as this was reincarnated ... YONA: Soo-won kills King Il, Yona's father, breaking Yona's heart, who loves him and wants to marry him. Until that moment, boy is considered sweet, cheerful, kind, educates by everyone

This is because I cannot afford other means to watch anime and the last time I watched anime on kiss anime my computer got a virus. also, a lot of the anime that I get recommended is mainstream. My cousin watches as well so I tend to watch with them a lot. I try and watch other anime as well but just because someone considers an anime mainstream doesn't mean it is bad.

Ending of Akasuki no Yona
Beware, it is long but good content! :)
Recently I have been seeing some posts all around different social media platforms about the ending of Akatsuki no Yona on its way. I am here to disagree, although I do understand why people are saying that because we are closer to the ending than we were last year and the year before and the year before that.
Now, Kusanagi might not even reveal some of the stuff that I think should be revealed. However, if I was her, I would write about all of the things/topics I am going list. So here we go (these are not in order)!
1. The current arc — the war is not over, Soowon is nowhere to be seen, Hak and Yona need to be reunited, the dragons, Yoon, Hak and Yona need to be reunited and this whole mess with Kueblo needs to end.
2. The relationship between Hak and Yona — it’s been 172 chapters we have gotten a few... eh? kisses from Hak and one kiss from Yona. Hak has confessed. Yona tried but completely failed and left us disappointed smh, but it’s okay because we blame Yoon.
3. Freaking Gobi — the mothertrucker no one likes!
4. One Dragon God Thingy — That dragon that protected Yona in the war Xing vs Gobi’s people, remember that? Well I’m pretty freaking sure that something similar might happen. Key word: similar. That’s the one thing Gobi and I agree on... well he wants it to happen with dark intentions, that I don’t agree on but he thinks it’s gonna happen again and me too.
Tumblr media
5. Dragon Warriors Part 1 — Everyone is worried about how much older Jea-ha is compared to the rest of the dragons (other than Zeno), which I understand why, he is getting up there in age and according to the previous dragons lifespans, people should be concerned. However did you ever think that this could possibly be the last generation of the dragons? The whole reason why the dragon warriors exist is for the reincarnation of King Hiryuu (and of course King Hiryuu himself). We’re all pretty confident that Yona is the reincarnation of him, soooo what does that mean? The only reason why the dragons stayed alive all these years is for the reincarnation of King Hiryuu. Anyways, Jea-ha and the others might live as long as the first generation if a new one doesn’t coming popping out.
6. Dragon Warriors Part 2 — Zeno is the one we worry over most for obvious reasons. However, Kusanagi could take this two ways. Keep Zeno alive or send him to the heavens. Like I said before, this could be the last generation of the dragon warriors so why would Zeno need to be alive anymore? Unless the gods want the dragon warriors to remain alive. But, I don’t think so. So, I think that once this whole entire thing is over, Zeno could be stripped of his immortality and finally go to the heavens. King Hiryuu didn’t seem happy when he found out Zeno was immortal. Why keep him immortal once his job on earth is done?
Tumblr media
7. Soowon and Yona — They have talked, yes. But not about the thing we really want them to talk about. Yona did say that they needed to sit down and talk but they never really did speak about her father, they spoke about Xing and Kouka.
Tumblr media
8. Soowon and Hak — They have seen each other, they have... umm spoken? More like Hak screamed at him but yeah. I don’t know if this will happen but I feel like it might. I don’t know if Hak will even be able to hold a conversation with Soowon but I know Hak wants to know why Soowon betrayed him and Yona. The true reason.
9. Reasoning behind Ill’s Death — this could go with number 7 and 8 but I want to put it separate. Soowon said that he killed Ill because Ill killed his father, Ill’s brother, Yuhon. However, people thought Yuhon died in an accident. Sooo what the heck? I bet there is a story behind it. I don’t think it was an accident, but I also am not sure if Ill killed his brother in cold blood but wait... as I write/type this what if Yuhon KILLED Kashi!?!??! And then Ill wanted revenge?!? Oh my lord, I need to stop, different topic and not much information. But I’m pretty sure (hoping) that this topic will be touched on.
Tumblr media
10. Queen Kashi — Another topic I’m not quite sure if it will be focused a lot on. We know very little about her but we know Yona cares about her quite a bit, and wants to know more. She also now knows that Lady Iguni knew her mother fairly well. I really hope that this will be touched on because I’m very interested in Yona’s mother. And the theory I just came up with a number 9, I have to only assume that if that theory is true then she has to be brought up again.
11. The Throne — it’s kind of like Game of Thrones up in there. People want to Soowon on the throne but other people want Yona on the throne. Who will sit on the throne in the end? Yona is gathering up her army with allies and her dragons. Soowon is a good king with good(?) intentions but citizens like the Fire Tribe and Wind Tribe have showed their loyalty to Yona. And both General Joodoh and Advisor Kye-Sook have expressed their worry over this.
12. Hak — I still can’t get over this, I’m sorry! I know now that Hak’s parents died when he was 2 in the war against Xing 16 years ago, along with Mundok’s family. Even so, I just have a feeling that something, anything will be revealed in the actual manga (more like hoping but you get what I mean). Already ranted on all of this so I’m not gonna say much here but I really think that Hak being adopted needs to discussed at some point.
13. Ending — how will this story end, ya know?
- Disclaimer: Don’t take my word for any of this! Im just assuming and hoping. It’s all up to Kusanagi. Also, these obviously won’t have their own arc. I hope these will all be addressed but I’m not demanding it at all, it’s not my story.
- Now, I read somewhere that somebody thinks that the series is going to end in August and I’ve also heard that the series probably won’t go up past 250 chapters, which it’s probably not because this isn’t Fairytail with 500 chapters buuut, there is still quite a bit that should/needs to be revealed.
Kusanagi updates bi-monthly and sometimes once a month. So that means up to 24 chapters at most, however there have already been months where she only updated once so I don’t think we will be getting 24 chapters this year. I know a lot can happen in 24 chapters but Kusanagi likes to take her time and make it good (bless her). She’s also been working on this for about a decade, I don’t think she’ll rush the ending. If you do that math, 172+24=196. Not even 200 (I know it’s stupid, only 4 chapters off but still). Like I said earlier, we’re most not likely getting 24 chapters this year. So no, I don’t think the series will end in August and not this year either.
I could keep going but this is getting lengthy.
Again, this is all assumption. Please don’t take my word for it. Thank you for reading. :)
