Putting on my character analysis hat for Su-won lately. Spoilers for current official release, about volume 36 to be safe.
The fundamental conflict with him and what makes him such an interesting character is that he is kind, compassionate and loves his friends deeply. But he also won’t prioritise that love over what he sees as the greater good. This is how he can love Yona and Hak more than anyone and grieve their loss, grieve their pain and regret their parting, while still ruthlessly carrying out the plot that caused that pain. But I loosely recall a scene where Yona confronts him over what his father did to Xing, where he promised to release civilian prisoners but instead beheaded them by the hundreds and threw their heads over the walls. And Su-won dismissively says that such things often happen in war, or that they’re sometimes necessary, but when Yona presses him on this he seems shocked and angry.
Unfortunately I don’t have that particular volume with me but assuming my memory holds true... Isn’t that interesting? Why would he care what she thought? Surely as detached as he is from sentiment, he would recognise his father’s flaws while still loving him? I think Su-won is very aware of his father’s legacy. He abides by his words and his methods in ruling the country, trying to discard sentiment in order to take precise and direct action. But his father caused everything about the current predicament with Yona because of his love for lady Yon-hi. He couldn’t discard sentiment no matter how much he talked about doing what was needful.
His father impulsively slaughtered priests and the queen in order to protect his mother, without considering how King Il might take revenge or what position that would place their family in long-term. I think Su-won tells himself that he won’t act for personal interest or love when it comes to Yona and Hak precisely because he’s aware of that very thing being his father’s downfall.
But he hasn’t considered his own feelings for his father. Because his father is dead. He hasn’t yet considered that he’s being held back by his love for his father, that maybe his father wasn’t the perfect general he believed him to be. A mass slaughter of civilians and throwing their heads over the walls doesn’t match with ‘doing what is necessary’ and not being swayed by emotion, so there must have been a reason for it. Such things do happen in war time, there must have been context. It couldn’t possibly be because his father was a blood thirsty tyrant who wasn’t fit for the throne any more than Il was. There is definitely a lingering sense of that in his actions, in how he didn’t want to kill Il until he was sure he was unfit. But I don’t think he’s quite ready to grapple with it yet. Su-won is someone without faith. He’s dying from a disease inflicted by the gods as a result of their meddling in human affairs. He should have been king but was instead forced into the role of a usurper through duty and because apparently no one else is going to save this mess of a country, and he can’t even have the luxury of his loved ones by his side. No wonder he doesn’t want anything to do with the dragons. I also wonder how much he believes in Kei-suk. He’s a smart boy, but I do wonder if being so smart from such a young age was something of a detriment, as he was left to take all this on alone.
And if I can speculate for a bit, I think he might survive. Because Yona is coming to the end of her arc on revenge vs compassion, which leaves the lingering question of how she deals with Su-won long-term. He and Hak have a lot to sort out, so he needs to survive long enough for Hak to let go of revenge. Hak is being eaten alive right now, if Su-won dies, that won’t ever end. And Su-won needs to realise that he’s not alone. That he doesn’t have to be bound up in duty all alone. Yona’s strength is in compassion and relying on her friends. Su-won seems to be juggling a lot of allies who all want something from him other than himself.
If this story is about breaking cycles of revenge, it’s also about breaking the circle of suffering inflicted by the dragons and the chains of duty. A lot has been written about how generations of humans have died for nothing, waiting for the return of the king. And Su-won’s bloodline has been compared to the dragons, simply waiting for the return without even a true duty to sustain them. They have only an early death with none of the glory. And I think breaking the cycle is incomplete if it doesn’t break the illness too. You could cure that one other lady whose name I forget, but it wouldn’t have as much impact.

[PT: “Is it Yona's place to decide that their pain outweighed their happiness? and thus they should all be erased from existence?”. end PT.]
i can see the argument about the lack of reflection.. personally that didn’t bother me because we’ve seen repeatedly how quickly yona can asses a situation and act accordingly (without the readers necessarily being privy to her thoughts) so i just assumed that she did weigh the pros and cons in this case too because like. why wouldn’t she. also dreams can be fickle things and there’s no guarantee she would’ve had time to ponder, and she was already desperate, so i get why her response was so quick.
i’ve made the same point about moments of joy in another reblog on this post, but i also have the need to reiterate that everyone chose to live for as long as they could despite the pain, and the ability to have agency over anything is that much more valuable when there are so many things that u can’t control, so taking that away would be immeasurably cruel. zeno’s an exception here since he can’t die, and if the current conflict were Purely about zeno wanting to die vs yona wanting him to live, i might feel differently about yona’s actions but zeno’s totally disregarding the other dragon warriors’ thoughts and feelings on the matter—he didn’t even bother to ask them!—and regardless of how much i want him to finally experience peace, whether it’s through death or getting to grow old, i simply don’t think his wants take precedence over the other dragon warriors’, especially when throughout the series there’s been an emphasis on letting them make their own choices. and yona’s decision ultimately does let them have agency.
(brief tangent but i’ve seen some people bring up that everyone would still be alive if yona had made a different choice, just not connected to the dragon gods, but that’s a frankly ridiculous assumption to me. like i thought everyone knew about the butterfly effect lmao.)
anyway yeah exactly if yona had made a different choice people would be criticizing that too, and unduly harshly at that. because god forbid a teenage girl ever make a narratively compelling decision!
hm. i apparently have an unpopular opinion about yona’s decision during her conversation with hiryuu…… like. obviously she’s motivated by the desire to save her friends—she loves them and cares about them deeply and is scared of losing them—and there’s some selfishness in that (on a more facetious note though, god forbid teenage girls do anything i guess…). but the interpretation of her decision as selfish to the point of cruelty and/or naïveté just doesn’t sit right with me. like there is no solution to the conundrum she was presented with that doesn’t involve tragedy. and i’m never, ever letting anyone forget that jaeha, gija, and sinha were never given a choice regarding zeno’s whole murder-suicide plan, and they don’t regret being alive, so wouldn’t changing the past and effectively erasing them from existence (when they already have no agency atm!!!!) be so much more cruel? wouldn’t discarding two millennia worth of lives, regardless of how painful they’d been, be so much more cruel? does a life lived not matter because there was suffering?
and yona values life, even when it hurts, so she was never gonna make a different choice, and i just don't think that that's extremely selfish or naïve of her; the dragon warriors are not just vessels for the gods, they're people, and they don't deserve to be erased because the gods don't care about the pain they cause, and she can't confront the gods in the dream realm, she has to do it in her present which can't exist if she changes it! (also on a purely narrative level, any other choice would've basically rendered 40+ volumes of the story pointless.) and besides, it's more interesting to focus on trying to make things better rather than rewriting the past, and she'll have to sacrifice something to save everyone (the part of her that's a reincarnation of hiryuu, obviously, and possibly something more) which will even things out anyway.

Akatsuki no Yona chapter 217
Loved seeing a bit of insight on Soo-Won's ways of dealing with feelings. Boxes and suppression. Yeah really got me convinced he genuinely loves them still, despite of what happened
Looking for Hak unconsciously ofc, despite his will
The fraction between Gods vs People theme still going strong
Yona and the bunch wanting to leave right after the war to look for Hak ofc. Ha Soo-Won I bet you miss her support already. Like he seemed so moved when she promised to be there for him if he fell ill?
Awww the feels. Idk it's all so complicated. The Hiryuu castle feels right for the dragons, Hak and Soo-Won feel right for each other as allies, the trio is still the closest bittersweet thing, torn part through things they didn't directly choose...can they ever make up?
This is leading to some kind of resolution and peace between them just so we can cry our eyes out when Soo-Won dies. Or what if it doesn't? What if fulfilling the legend means the end for the illness and the dragon suffering?
The manga is really excellent in keeping readers invested through mysteries and unresolved questions. And relationships.
I loved the part with Jea Ha realizing Yona was crying to Soo-Won while putting up a smile for the dragons. He is so cool and insightful!
Yeah she cares more about not hurting you. She doesn't worry about it that much with Soo-Won
Hak in the pile of corpses! So weak and battered he couldn't even walk! So hurt and vulnerable in enemy territory
Also how does someone so selfless as Hak exist?! Worry about the herbs, Yoon, not himself before the flood and now he was again worried about the pouch...😭
Who is this mother and her son? Why did she help Hak? Did she recognize him? From where?
What if this really will lead to some big reveal about Hak? What if he is a kid from South Kai? What if he is related to their scary generals?
What would it mean if Hak ended up being some kind of Kai nobility anyway? I don't think it would change how he would feel...what would be the effect thematically, explaining his exceptional power with lineage?
I'm worried about Hak being captured or used or something for the upcoming conflict 😭

Hi, hope you’re having a great day! I want to ask if you have any anime/manga rec? I haven’t watched any for years, but your blog made me nostalgic
hi anon!!
i definitely do!! i mean, im not sure what you’re into so ill give you a great long list with lot’s of different options!!! this will mostly be anime but at the end ill include a few manga. i tend to watch anime vs read manga.
violent/horror/gore/supernatural (& i mean it. skip this first set if you cant handle gore or graphic content)
berserk. both the 90s / new remake are great. there’s also movies that go through the entire story arc. but this one is VERY dark & very graphic.
attack on titan. AMAZING.
goblin slayer. so fucking good. 10/10. still waiting on the next season.
blood+ great story with a great love story.
elfen lied. creepy and fantastic.
another. i dont think this one was as graphic, but creepy. i havent seen it in a while though so i could be wrong.
re:zero. a thriller sort of anime with some graphic content.
boku dake ga inai machi / erased. HOLY SHIT SO GOOD. main character can reset 7min before accidents happen & he sets out to find out what happens to a childhood friend.
higurashi no naku koro ni kai. cute killer girls. kind of dated, but still worth the watch. has amazing music.
kiseijuu sei no kakuritsu
slice of life / chances are it will destroy your life & make you cry
koe no katachi / a silent voice. it’s about bullying & the aftermath of it.
kimi no na wa / your name. this one is a movie. boy and girl wake up in each other’s bodies.
ao haru ride. SOOOOOOO GOOD HOLY SHIT. incredible love story. incredible characters. fantastic all around
ano hi mita hana no namae wo bokutachi wa mada shiranai. be prepared to cry many tears. a story about friendship & ghosts.
your lie in april. i wasn’t okay for hours after finishing this one. truly a beautiful story. also, lots of tears.
5 centimeters per second. story of friends who are forced apart due to family moves. fantastic.
kimi no suizou wo tabetai / i want to eat your pancreas. MANY TEARS, SOOO GOOOOOOOOD. also a movie.
nagi no asu kara. beautiful animation, wonderful story. about people who live under the sea and on land.
fruits basket 2019 reboot. this is my first time enjoying this series. i love it. cute animation, awesome story.
action anime (could have hints of violence but not like the first list)
akatsuki no yona / yona of the dawn. SO GOOD. I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH HOW GOOD THIS ONE IS. it only has one season, but the manga? read it if you enjoy the first season. it’s about a spoiled pampered princess & her forever loyal bodyguard + the loyal “dragons” that come to follow her. lots of action, romance, and amazing relationships between the entire cast of characters.
seirei no moribito. female lead character protecting a royal boy. fantastic.
the rising of the shield hero SOOOOO GOOD.
demon slayer. brother sets out to save his sister. it’s a nice story. great animation.
fate / zero. lots of seasons + a movie or two. has a touch of history.
sword art online. just the first two seasons.
is it wrong to try and pick up girls in a dungeon? on the side. this one is the same story as  this one  just from another point of view. both are good.
classic anime that everyone should watch just because
sailor moon / sailor moon crystal. crystal has done through infinity arc & the dream arc is coming next fall. it follows the manga a lot closer than the 90s anime ever did and even if a lot of people didn’t like the animation, i loved it. especially for the second season / r arc.
inuyasha. fantastic story, amazing love story. the characters are great. and despite being older, it doesnt feel dated. the final arc was fantastic & tugged at my heartstrings over and over again
trigun. i havent watched this one in YEARS but i always enjoyed it. probably a little dated by now.
yu yu hakusho. also a little dated, im here still hoping for a reboot someday.
chobits. really cute!!
naruto shippuden. literally no reason to watch naruto (220 episodes lmao) because a quick google search would explain the story. just watch shippuden but for the love of god skip the filler  there’s also a bunch of movies. dont bother with boruto. also has amazing openings/endings.
rurouni kenshin / samurai x. you can honestly jsut watch the movies. ESPECIALLY TRUST & BETRAYAL. that movie is one of my favorites. i actually rewatched this series… two summers ago? its held up well despite being older.
avatar the last airbender.
anything studio ghibli.
manga
sailor moon, the manga is so fucking good. ive read it so many times, it never gets old. it’s my favorite canon of the series.
akatsuki no yona. i cant even with this manga. again, 10/10. its one of my favorites. if the first season of the manga interested you, watch it and continue the manga. it’s still ongoing.
love so life. age difference romance. a high school student is the babysitter for two adorable twins that are being raised by their uncle. literally so good.
faster than a kiss. another age difference romance. a teen girl and her baby brother are orphaned and eventually alone. her teacher takes them in. another amazing story.
sorry this got kind of long, i hope you find something here you like!! let me know if you do!!!!

Soo Won says Yona’s dad, Il, killed his dad, Yu Hon.
We know Il (and Yona’s mom!) were aware their child was a reincarnation of the crimson dragon king somehow.
We now know that Soo-won’s Mom was actually Dying of Crimson Dragon Disease and so is Soo Won
What if Yu-hon wanted to take out all the dragon descendants or something similarly rash to "cure” his family? Or something else dragon related that would put Yona in danger? What if the one time in his life Il turned to violence was to protect Yona, and he ended up killing his own brother? What if Yona’s mom was involved in all that somehow?
I don’t know what happened, but I think in the direction this arc is going and the shots of foreshadowing of how Il treated Soo-Won, the conflict between the two could have been something like Il wanting to preserve the protection of the four dragons and wanting some “destined/sanctioned by the gods” things to play out so his daughter would be okay vs Yu-hon being like “fuck the gods, look what its done to my family' and wanting to upend everything. How the rest of the nation would be involved with the gods plans vs without them could have been a point of conflict as well.
POSSIBLY.

Unlisted Fandom Challenge - the Results
Signups are closed, and the FTH mods will spend the next couple weeks organizing the form responses into Dreamwidth posts and getting all the tags done so that browsers can search by fandom, fan creator, fanwork type offered, rating, and more. Browsing week starts 2/17, and when it comes around, bidders will have the opportunity to view all 748 (yes! seven hundred forty eight!) offerings in 298 (!!) fandoms. That’s ... staggering.
Of those 298 fandoms, 182 were ‘Other’ fandoms that were written in on the contributor’s sign up docs. Posted below is the whole list of all 182 fandoms. Topping the list is Mo Dao Zu Shi / The Untamed, with 9 contributors interested in creating fanworks for it. Just below that, with 7 contributors, is Yu Yu Hakusho. Tied for third place, with 6 write-ins each, are Bungou Stray Dogs, Kingdom Hearts, and Shadowhunters.
The rest of the list under the cut.

REYLO VS YONA OF THE DAWN
Post written by ME. The animated gifs present in this post AREN’T MINE and DON’T HAVE ANY WAY TO ME! Akatsuki no Yona ("Yona of the Dawn") is a 2009 historical/adventure/sentimental Manga, written and designed by Mizuho Kusanagi, of which Studio Pierrot produced Anime adaptation, formed by a total of 24 episodes and an OAV. In reality, story told in Yona and that told in Star Wars Episode VII and VIII, are totally different, however there are parallels between two stories make it possible to realize DIFFERENT stories from same narrative themes ... Orphaned of a mother, Yona is princess and heir to Kingdom of Kouka’s throne, daughter of King Il, head of Clan of Heaven and single ruler, recognized like King by other clans leaders: Wind, Earth, Water and Fire. In reality, King Il is considered weak and cowardly, because of his hatred of weapons and his policy of no violence. Unlike her father, Yona is lively, restless and adventurous. Since childhood she has shared her time with Son Hak, now head of the Wind clan and her faithful bodyguard, nicknamed "Lightning beast" for his superhuman strength and speed and devastating power of his blows, and his cousin Soo-won, cheerful, kind and carefree son of Ju-Hon, brother of King Il and undefeated general of army to protect Kouka’s kingdom. Everyone believed Ju-Hon should have become King, but when his father chose Il as sovereign, Ju-Hon left castle, promising to continue to defend the Kingdom and his brother from afar. Five days before her sixteenth birthday, Yona receives Soo-won’s visit to castle, returned to participate in her celebrations. Yona is determined to confess her love to Soo-won, unaware Hak has loved her in silence for years. Yona faces two painful obstacles: Soo-won claims to consider her like a younger sister and he said he can’t see her as a woman while, without explaining reason to her, King Il declares he will NEVER give Yona allowed to marry Soo-won. He will never have to become King, which would happen if he married Yona. Meanwhile, Hak notices climate has changed in castle, but his premonition is too vague and Hak fails to focus on it. One evening Yona is chased by someone who sneaks into castle, but she’s rescued by Soo-won and intruder seems to disappear. On birthday, Soo-won gives Yona a beautiful and precious hair clip. Unable to sleep that same night, Yona goes to her father's rooms to inform him that she will never forget Soo-won but as soon as she opens door she sees a chilling scene: Soo-won puts a sword in King Il's heart, killing him in front in her eyes. Noticing her presence, Soo-won is surprised and disappointed Yona was still awake and explains to girl that he had killed King Il for revenge. For some time, in fact, Soo-won had discovered his father hadn’t died from an accident like everyone else, including Yona, knew, but he had been killed with sword, by King Il immediately after he ascended the throne. Soo-won also claims that after killing King II, to honor his father's wishes, he would become King. Yona doesn’t believe a word, but she hasn’t time to assimilate news, ‘cause Kye - Sook, intruder who had threatened her night before and Soo-won's aide, seeing Yona was witness to King Il assassination, advised Soo-won to kill her. Yona runs away, but Soo-won's guards manage to capture her. Fortunately, Hak arrives to save Yona. Thanks to Min-Soo, faithful servant, Hak and Yona manage to escape from castle. Soo-won unleashes soldiers on their tracks, with order to capture them, while he is crowned new King of Kouka, declaring he will crush anyone who will oppose him. Yona and Hak hide in Capital Fuuga, Hak's hometown. Here Yona takes decision to fight for her life and prevent Hak from dying. Having heard of girl's decision, Son Mundok, adoptive father of Hak and former General of Wind’s clan, in King Il’s service, sent Hak and Yona in search of Ik-Soo, a monk capable of listening and reporting God’s voice, in past adviser to King, then chased from castle. Learning of Yona's will to fight, Ik-Soo advises her and Hak to look for four dragons from which kingdom and its tribes were born. Four boys who were infused with blood and powers of Dragons who reigned in sky, destined to protect the Red Dragon with every means, as soon as this was reincarnated ... YONA: Soo-won kills King Il, Yona's father, breaking Yona's heart, who loves him and wants to marry him. Until that moment, boy is considered sweet, cheerful, kind, educates by everyone

anime, book, and movie recommendations for everyone’s coronation
Hi, I thought that this would be a good time since everyone is off from school or quarantined I would make a list of some good books and anime and movies to help bide the time until everything is good again. also, I know animal crossing just came out so people will be playing that but I know some people can’t afford the game or even want to play it so.

This is because I cannot afford other means to watch anime and the last time I watched anime on kiss anime my computer got a virus. also, a lot of the anime that I get recommended is mainstream. My cousin watches as well so I tend to watch with them a lot. I try and watch other anime as well but just because someone considers an anime mainstream doesn't mean it is bad.
anime: kill la kill, children of the whales, Durarara!!, sword art online (the Japanese version), Gurren Lagann, Jojo's bizarre adventure, haikyu!!, blue exorcist, full metal alchemist brotherhood, cells at work, death note, Ouran highschool host club, the disastrous life of Saiki k., one punch man, black butler, aggretsuko, neon genesis Evangelion, devilman crybaby, anohana, beastars, carol and Tuesday, rilakkuma and Kaoru (I know this isn’t anime), the devil is a part-timer, amagi brilliant park, black butler: book of circus, blue exorcist Kyoto saga, danganronpa: the animation, demon slayer, Durarara!!x2, fire force, future diary, high school of the dead, school live, love live, monster Musume, my hero academia, the promised neverland, sailor moon, sailor moon crystal, seraph of the end, terror in resonance, tiger and bunny, double decker Doug and Kirill, Tokyo Ghoul, Tokyo magnitude 8.0, another, and yona of the dawn, robihachi

Ending of Akasuki no Yona
Beware, it is long but good content! :)
Recently I have been seeing some posts all around different social media platforms about the ending of Akatsuki no Yona on its way. I am here to disagree, although I do understand why people are saying that because we are closer to the ending than we were last year and the year before and the year before that.
Now, Kusanagi might not even reveal some of the stuff that I think should be revealed. However, if I was her, I would write about all of the things/topics I am going list. So here we go (these are not in order)!
1. The current arc — the war is not over, Soowon is nowhere to be seen, Hak and Yona need to be reunited, the dragons, Yoon, Hak and Yona need to be reunited and this whole mess with Kueblo needs to end.
2. The relationship between Hak and Yona — it’s been 172 chapters we have gotten a few... eh? kisses from Hak and one kiss from Yona. Hak has confessed. Yona tried but completely failed and left us disappointed smh, but it’s okay because we blame Yoon.
3. Freaking Gobi — the mothertrucker no one likes!
4. One Dragon God Thingy — That dragon that protected Yona in the war Xing vs Gobi’s people, remember that? Well I’m pretty freaking sure that something similar might happen. Key word: similar. That’s the one thing Gobi and I agree on... well he wants it to happen with dark intentions, that I don’t agree on but he thinks it’s gonna happen again and me too.
Tumblr media
5. Dragon Warriors Part 1 — Everyone is worried about how much older Jea-ha is compared to the rest of the dragons (other than Zeno), which I understand why, he is getting up there in age and according to the previous dragons lifespans, people should be concerned. However did you ever think that this could possibly be the last generation of the dragons? The whole reason why the dragon warriors exist is for the reincarnation of King Hiryuu (and of course King Hiryuu himself). We’re all pretty confident that Yona is the reincarnation of him, soooo what does that mean? The only reason why the dragons stayed alive all these years is for the reincarnation of King Hiryuu. Anyways, Jea-ha and the others might live as long as the first generation if a new one doesn’t coming popping out.
6. Dragon Warriors Part 2 — Zeno is the one we worry over most for obvious reasons. However, Kusanagi could take this two ways. Keep Zeno alive or send him to the heavens. Like I said before, this could be the last generation of the dragon warriors so why would Zeno need to be alive anymore? Unless the gods want the dragon warriors to remain alive. But, I don’t think so. So, I think that once this whole entire thing is over, Zeno could be stripped of his immortality and finally go to the heavens. King Hiryuu didn’t seem happy when he found out Zeno was immortal. Why keep him immortal once his job on earth is done?
Tumblr media
7. Soowon and Yona — They have talked, yes. But not about the thing we really want them to talk about. Yona did say that they needed to sit down and talk but they never really did speak about her father, they spoke about Xing and Kouka.
Tumblr media
8. Soowon and Hak — They have seen each other, they have... umm spoken? More like Hak screamed at him but yeah. I don’t know if this will happen but I feel like it might. I don’t know if Hak will even be able to hold a conversation with Soowon but I know Hak wants to know why Soowon betrayed him and Yona. The true reason.
9. Reasoning behind Ill’s Death — this could go with number 7 and 8 but I want to put it separate. Soowon said that he killed Ill because Ill killed his father, Ill’s brother, Yuhon. However, people thought Yuhon died in an accident. Sooo what the heck? I bet there is a story behind it. I don’t think it was an accident, but I also am not sure if Ill killed his brother in cold blood but wait... as I write/type this what if Yuhon KILLED Kashi!?!??! And then Ill wanted revenge?!? Oh my lord, I need to stop, different topic and not much information. But I’m pretty sure (hoping) that this topic will be touched on.
Tumblr media
10. Queen Kashi — Another topic I’m not quite sure if it will be focused a lot on. We know very little about her but we know Yona cares about her quite a bit, and wants to know more. She also now knows that Lady Iguni knew her mother fairly well. I really hope that this will be touched on because I’m very interested in Yona’s mother. And the theory I just came up with a number 9, I have to only assume that if that theory is true then she has to be brought up again.
11. The Throne — it’s kind of like Game of Thrones up in there. People want to Soowon on the throne but other people want Yona on the throne. Who will sit on the throne in the end? Yona is gathering up her army with allies and her dragons. Soowon is a good king with good(?) intentions but citizens like the Fire Tribe and Wind Tribe have showed their loyalty to Yona. And both General Joodoh and Advisor Kye-Sook have expressed their worry over this.
12. Hak — I still can’t get over this, I’m sorry! I know now that Hak’s parents died when he was 2 in the war against Xing 16 years ago, along with Mundok’s family. Even so, I just have a feeling that something, anything will be revealed in the actual manga (more like hoping but you get what I mean). Already ranted on all of this so I’m not gonna say much here but I really think that Hak being adopted needs to discussed at some point.
13. Ending — how will this story end, ya know?
- Disclaimer: Don’t take my word for any of this! Im just assuming and hoping. It’s all up to Kusanagi. Also, these obviously won’t have their own arc. I hope these will all be addressed but I’m not demanding it at all, it’s not my story.
- Now, I read somewhere that somebody thinks that the series is going to end in August and I’ve also heard that the series probably won’t go up past 250 chapters, which it’s probably not because this isn’t Fairytail with 500 chapters buuut, there is still quite a bit that should/needs to be revealed.
Kusanagi updates bi-monthly and sometimes once a month. So that means up to 24 chapters at most, however there have already been months where she only updated once so I don’t think we will be getting 24 chapters this year. I know a lot can happen in 24 chapters but Kusanagi likes to take her time and make it good (bless her). She’s also been working on this for about a decade, I don’t think she’ll rush the ending. If you do that math, 172+24=196. Not even 200 (I know it’s stupid, only 4 chapters off but still). Like I said earlier, we’re most not likely getting 24 chapters this year. So no, I don’t think the series will end in August and not this year either.
I could keep going but this is getting lengthy.
Again, this is all assumption. Please don’t take my word for it. Thank you for reading. :)

Links in a Chain
The complete story for the Dragons Week 2019.  Prompts in order: Kija, Shin-ah, Jae-ha, Zeno, Family Bonds, Old Gen vs new Gen, Future.  ~~ breaks left in because Tumblr posts weird
AU story, Canon divergence. Each of them came from different backgrounds, but there was something that tied their lives together and, in the end, they learn how family meant much more than just by blood.
Don’t get it wrong, Kija had a good life, great family, anything he possibly could need, but he was so… lonely.  Toy’s weren’t much fun if you didn’t have anyone to play with.  School was miserable when all the other kids were, well, stuck up. Sometimes he wished his parents would just send him to the local public school.  Whenever they passed by it, the kids in the playground looked like they were having so much fun!  And then he would arrive by chauffeured car to his private school, where all the kids had their noses in the air and were more interested in one-upping each other in who had the most of, whatever was the item of that day.  Kija wasn’t like them at all.  Oh, he could act a bit on the spoiled side but, let’s just say, his personality was much more naïve and preferred simpler things.
Their neighborhood wasn’t much help in this regard, the other families with children around his age either attended his school or the matching girls one.  Yeah…. Life for Kija were days often spent with nanny’s trying to keep him entertained.  But he did have one saving grace.  Mr. Mundok down the street had taken in his grandson Hak just over a year ago and they were only one year apart in age.  Kija had heard his parents whispering about it at the time.  Father died while serving in the military overseas… mother couldn’t handle the loss and took off leaving her son behind. That boy was sure lucky to have a grandfather to take him in.
Kija knew old mister Mundok because their families were acquainted and of course the idea that another little girl was always over at that house caught the boy’s attention too. At first Kija thought little Yona was the man’s granddaughter but turns out her father is an old business colleague. Not that young Kija cared about such details for the only thing that mattered was the blooming of hope and maybe friendship for a lonely child.  And Yona was a total darling.  There was just something special about her and she was turning into the little sister that Kija’s parents never gave him.
But Hak, now there was a kid that wasn’t the easiest to be around.  If he wasn’t being moody or sarcastic with Kija, the boy would sometimes not talk at all preferring to tinker around with his grandfather’s martial arts stuff rather than deal with people.  Mr. Mundok explained once that his grandson was still dealing with some of the things that happened and hopefully, he’d get better with people soon. By far, the best times was when Yona was visiting and the three of them hung out.  That girl had a knack for getting Hak to play with them no matter if he whined, he’d still do as she asked.  Yeah, the three of them was still a whole lot more fun than none and things were about to get even better…
~~
In another section of their vast metropolis, a young boy had glued himself into the corner of a closet.  For all of his short life, the shy but astute child knew nothing of warmth or affection, just the bitter darkness that was his world.  The few interactions he had with adults were mostly formalities, they fed and clothed him, taught him basic language skills but that was all, he didn’t even know who he was for they only referred to him in pronouns.  It was a strange life to say the least.  They never harmed him, at least not physically laid a hand on him, but it was as if they didn’t really want to touch him or get too close.
The sparsely furnished room was all he really knew about the world aside from the few storybooks that gave him a fantasy view of what might exist. 23 hours a day locked in with only a bed, a lamp, a desk with a chair and a handful of toys like a small bouncy ball that he had to play with quietly or risk getting yelled at.  Even at such a young age, he realized something was very odd about his circumstances, but he was too shy or scared to say anything like now as he huddled in the closet.  The weird chanting and sounds coming from the other room.  He could hear many adults talking… about him.
Look at his eyes, they are not normal.  Evil.  We have told you, he will grow up and bring anger from our Gods.  We will not tolerate this blasphemy any longer, either you get rid of the spawn or you must leave our sanctity!
“Shin-ah, Shin-ah wake up…”
In a start, the young boy shrieks, scrambling over the bed and pressing himself against the wall with his eyes screwed shut.  He feels the bed shifting and a warm hand coming to rest on his knee.  A sweet girls voice breaking through his panicked mind…. It was so soothing…
“Shin-ah it’s okay, was it that bad dream again?  You’re safe now remember, here at grandpa Mundok’s.”
Shin-ah…. That’s the name she gave me when I got here.  He flashes back again to the river and tries to shake the memories out of his head.  That was 3 months ago.  He’d been so scared when the adults yanked him out of the closet and left him near a river with nothing more than the clothes on his back.  After a day, starved and cold a passerby found him and took him to the authorities but with no way of identifying who he was, they placed him in this home for boys.  That’s where I am now.
He peaked out with one eye, and sure enough the angels voice belonged to Yona.  Seeing him coming around she smiles and moves her hands to take hold of his.  “It’s gonna be okay Shin-ah, no one will hurt you anymore, I promise.”  There was still a lingering fear but so far, she had spoken the truth.  It was all so different for him to go from a lonely existence to one where the people actually talk to him and make him feel wanted.  He nods his head slowly and after Yona scoots off his bed, crawls back under his blanket.  “Goodnight Shin-ah!”
As much as he didn’t want to get his hopes up, the peace that little girl could always bring him began to lull him to sleep once more.  Maybe… maybe it will be okay…
~~
“Get back here kid!”
There was no way Jae-ha was gonna let them catch him and take him back to that hell hole of a home. No thank you!  He truly thought that no one would believe the stories of how he was beat and starved, shackled by a long chain to the wall heater so he couldn’t escape.  Freedom was what he craved for and it fueled his drive to break free.
Too bad freedom didn’t come with a meal.
It had been a week now of playing cat-and-mouse with the authorities.  But as his stomach growled, he stopped to looked around and realized he had wandered onto a street of affluent homes.  Thievery was not something Jae-ha wanted to resort to, but what other options did he have?  All the darkened homes, quiet while their occupants slept peacefully in beds. Jae-ha scoffed, lucky bastards.  These were the kinds of people that could afford to share their food, right?
Picking the simple lock was the easy part and luck have it that the back door had led straight into the kitchen!  Hallelujah! It was like sun rays shining down upon him as he opened the fully stocked refrigerator!
“Shin-ah is that you raiding the fridge again?”  The young boy freezes in place, slowly turning around to see another boy, slightly younger, rubbing his eyes and staring at him.  “You’re not Shin-ah, what are you doing with our fridge?”
“Yoon, what’s going on down there?”
Shit!  It’s an adult’s voice!  Jae-ha glances at the back door.  He could out run the kid, no problem and takes a step in that direction.
“Are you hungry?”  The kitchen light snapping on causing Jae-ha to flinch again.  He was busted, the older male was standing near the door now.  Jae-ha presses himself against the counter afraid to say a word, studying the situation and looking for his way out.  But again, the older gentleman asks the same question and this time Jae-ha is starting to notice the softness in the man’s tone. “Boy, I can see you must be starving. Yoon will you make him a sandwich?”
“Sure, thing grandpa!” the other child ignores the fact that there is a stranger in the room and simply goes around focused on his task.
“My name is Mundok, gramps to these boys.”  He stays his ground near the door for now watching the frightened child.  “I’m not gonna hurt you.”
Jae-ha was sure this was just a ploy to catch him so they could call the police.  Since when are people so kind?  He continues to watch the old man until the other child walks up and sticks the plate out to him.  “Here, you should eat.  It hurts when your stomach is empty, I know.”  Jae-ha looks at the plate, it did look so tempting….  “Gramps isn’t lying,” Yoon cut through the young boy’s thoughts. “He ain’t my real grandpa, just the guy that took me in.  There’s two other boys that live here too.”
“I can help ya boy, but you need to talk.  If you ran away from home it was for a good reason, I’m sure, cause no one runs away unless they got a dang good one.”  He moves away from the door and takes a seat on the opposite side of the island counter. Yoon places the plate on the counter and fixes a glass of water too.  “Yoon, you should get to bed it’s late, but could you grab one of Hak’s outfits and bring it to me first, I think it would fit this young man.”  Yoon nods and leaves the room on his task.  Mundok chuckles, “Yoon is such a great kid,” turning to look at Jae-ha who still hasn’t moved a muscle, “his family was too poor to care for him, so he had resorted to dumpster diving.  I convinced the family to let me adopt him and brought him here.”
Yoon returns a few minutes later and places the shirt, shorts, and underwear on the counter before waving and skipping back upstairs.  “Tell ya what son,” the old man stands up slowly, keeping his hands resting on the counter, “I’m old and tired so I’m gonna go back to sleep.  You should eat so ya ain’t starving tonight, take the clothes too and if you want,” he points to a utility room, “there’s even a shower if you wanna use it.”  Standing straight now, “stay, go, the choice is up to you, I won’t stop ya if you wanna leave.”  Mundok starts to walk away, still talking as he does.  He points to another room, “living rooms got a couch if you’re tired,” waving without turning around, “night kid.”
Was it really possible that this old guy was for real?  Jae-ha stares at the food, the clothes…. He glances around the room as tears slowly trickle down his face…
~~
It was a little weird when he first moved in.  You’d think he’d be used to living in a house full of boys, but these weren’t his relations. The old man that took him in, told him to call him gramps and think of this as his new family.  Could he really do that?  They were all younger than he was.  The two oldest Jae-ha and Hak didn’t seem very interested in getting to know him.  Shin-ah, well that boy was just eerily quiet, but Yoon at least said hello.
Zeno knew that they often wondered about him, this aloof kid, how the hell could he smile after what happened to him?  To be honest, he wasn’t sure either.  To the world, Zeno practically radiated sunshine but inside the nightmares still plagued with him, toying with his sanity.  Mundok had sat all the kids down, including Kija and Yona, like he always did when a new child joined the household and told them.  But the old man only gave them the info they needed… a lone survivor of a horrific car crash with no living relatives.  That was how the 11-year-old came to live with them.
But Yoon knew the truth. The roommate heard the quiet sobbing or witnessed the sleepless nights and did his best to comfort his new friend. Both boys assumed gramps had designed it that way, pairing them up while putting Jae-ha and Shin-ah in the other room. That old man had a knack for tactical strategies and a gift for the human condition.  Somehow, he just knew the young boy would provide a comforting shoulder without being laced with judgment.  It came-in handy when once, after a pretty terrible nightmare Zeno confided that he felt bad for out living his other siblings or parents, that he couldn’t understand what had made him special enough to survive.
That had to be tough to live with.
“There must be a reason,” Yoon had pointed out that night, “look at how much you make people smile around you Zeno, that’s a pretty cool thing, I think.  There’s so much bad stuff in this world, it needs people who can still be so happy.”
“How are you so smart for an 8-year-old?”  Zeno had sat back in his bed and laughed from the young boy’s serious expression.
Yoon had just shrugged,“the library is free, so I spent a lot of time there.”
Zeno had settled under the covers at that point, “Thanks, it’s nice having someone to talk to, makes me feel less lonely.”
“Same,” the boy smiled, “good night Zeno.”
After a few months the nightmares fizzled away and while he still thought about his family, Zeno realized that he had been blessed with a new one.  Three brothers had been lost, but even more gained plus a sister, and that made Zeno smile.  He loved them all, even the sarcastic Hak.  With Yona, it was absolutely wonderful having her around and while Kija didn’t live there, he visited so frequently it was as if he was part of this mixed family unit.  Zeno had gone from being the baby of the family to the eldest sibling.
As he looked around the dining table one evening, watching everyone laughing and talking about their day, he couldn’t help but smile and believe it…  Maybe there was a reason after all.
~~
All the previous years had barely prepared them for this moment.  They were better now and now it was their turn to be the strong ones.  The six young men huddle around the young teenage girl as she stares at her father’s casket.   Mundok places a hand upon her shoulder, “it’s gonna be okay Yona, we’ll help you get through this.  I’ll make sure your father’s business and legacy continues, I promise.”
Yona could only stare forward in disbelief.  Her hands hung at her sides, “But I still don’t understand w--why….  How could he hurt my dad like that when he was just trying to do the right thing?”  She looks up at her best friend Hak who just stood to her side.  The whites of his knuckles, the scowl and narrowed expression… her dad had treated him like a son, so his anger made sense.  Yona tugged gently at his sleeve, “Hak?”  He was so focused on the casket that it took a couple of pulls to gain his attention.
When he finally turns and looks, to see her riddled with pain and eyes misted over, his heart clenches tighter along with his fists.  Yona didn’t deserve this, that bastard!  How could he hurt his cousin like that!  Her eyes crinkle at the corners causing the tears to pool in them.  She’d held back the tears but there was no stopping them now and in a surprising move she launches into his chest, buries her face into the fabric and hands gripping. It takes a couple seconds to register in the young man but when it does, he wraps his arms around the girl.  His anger swept away by the need to console her instead.
Each of the other five boys immediately moves in to embrace Yona until she was buried beneath a sea of arms and bodies.  She was their little sister and big brothers protect little sisters.  If she was in pain, they would be there for her, just like she had been for them years ago.  Her sobbing continued but at a milder pace, tucked away in Hak’s arms and soothed by the rest of them.  Kija, Yoon and Zeno, Shin-ah and Jae-ha all cooing and whispering their consolations.
There wasn’t a dry eye to be seen.
Mundok simply stood back and watched it unfold.  He never imagined all those years ago when he’d taken the first child in, that this would be where his life would end up.  It warmed his aging heart, and in that moment, he knew they truly would be okay. All of those boys with heartbreaking stories of their own had come so far…. They will be great men, he mused, no, they were already amazing young men. Bonded through adversity, they would stare down the future together in a way that was yet to be seen, but Mundok was certain, they would be victorious in wherever their paths led them to.
After a few minutes, they untangle themselves and lead Yona to the seats that were set up for the family so the funeral could commence.  As she sat between them, Yoon held her hand on one side, Hak kept his arm around her from the other, and the other four sat behind like guardians. Mundok took a seat next to Hak and closed his eyes, “She’ll be okay Il, you rest in peace old friend…”
A couple of weeks later the lot of them were busy at the Il family home, “Hey gramps,” Hak points at the faded scroll painting hanging on the wall, “do you know what that’s from, even Yona had no idea about it.”
“It’s a cool painting,” adds Yoon, “it like one of those fairy tale fantasy stories or something.”
Mundok walks over, “ah the Legend of the Five Dragons, it’s an old tale that supposedly took place over two thousand years ago here in Kouka.  I’m surprised you kids didn’t learn about it in history class.”  Taking the painting off the wall.  “Tell ya what, were almost done packing up this house, so when we get home, I’ll tell you guys the tale.”
It took them about a week to pack everything up, and six strapping young men sure made the move a lot quicker.  Mundok made sure that anything of real value or sentiment was kept for Yona in the future, but he had made the difficult decision as executor to sell her family home and for her to move in with them instead.  She understood, a house was just a house, but being with a family unit meant more.  Mundok’s home was already bursting at the seams but in a couple of months a new room would be finished and until then she could stay in Hak’s room.
Once the final moving process was complete and they are hanging out after dinner, Mundok pulls out the scroll, laying it out on the table.  “You guys ready to hear the story?”  The group nods, some leaning forward, others relaxing back in their chairs.  “Kija, you sure you can stay longer for this?”
“Yeah, I told them I’d be staying through dinner.”
Mundok sits back and crosses his arms, “Over two thousand years ago this place we now call Kouka was nothing more than a land filled with warring tribes consumed with taking control and ruling over the peoples.  There was much bloodshed and chaos.  From the heavens the Hiryuu dragon watched all of these events unfolding and it began to break his heart because he loved humans and wanted there to be peace.  So, against the wishes of the other dragons he descended and took human form, even forgoing his powers to do what he could. Unfortunately, he was eventually caught and just before he was to be executed, the Hakuryuu, Seiryuu, Ryokuryuu, and Ouryuu dragons stepped in.  They didn’t want to see their beloved friend die so they made deals with four warriors to take their blood and a part of their powers on condition to protect Hiryuu for all time.”
He takes a drink of water before continuing.  “With the four dragon warriors at his side, Hiryuu was able to sweep through the lands and finally after many hard-won battles, united the peoples into one and Kouka was born.  So, what do you guys think so far?  Crazy or maybe it really happened?”
Hak scoffs, “these were probably just skilled warriors that the people called divine because they couldn’t explain how they were so good at what they did.”
“That could be true,” the old man nods, “it is often a human trait to attach such supernatural powers to those that seem inhuman.”
“Well I think it’s still cool to learn about the past,” Yoon smiles, “please continue gramps.”
Mundok grins, “I shall describe these dragons first starting with King Hiryuu.  They say he had purple eyes that shone bright with kindness and a personality to match, and yet his wavy red hair was seen as a raging inferno to his enemies ready to burn them to the ground…”  Suddenly the room fell silent as all head turned to young Yona.
“Whoa!” Zeno sits straight up in his chair, “you match the guy in the story Yona!”
“…Hakuryuu was physically strong with the power to crush his foes with his bare hands.  But his hair was softer, like the white snows from the mountains and eyes as blue as a glacier’s ice reflecting the sky….”  Now all eyes switched to Kija.
“…Seiryuu’s powers were the most dangerous of all for he could prey on people’s minds and drive them crazy.  One look from his serpentine yellow eyes and the last thing they may remember is his blue hair swaying in the breeze…”  By this point, the coincidences were starting to become quite eerie and Shin-ah shrank in his chair from the extra attention.
“…Ryokuryuu,” Mundok chuckles, “they say he was quite a character always sarcastic but very caring. He loved keeping his green hair up in a pony tail and legend has it his purple eyes were fond with the ladies…”
Jae-ha smirks and crosses his arms, “sound like a charmer to me.”
“…And finally, Ouryuu, the yellow dragon warrior with golden hair and a sunny disposition.  He was beloved by his fellow warriors and Hiryuu for he kept their spirits up even under the harshest of times.”
Unable to take the similarities anymore, “oh, this is some crap,” Hak waves an arm at the others in a fit, “how come they get to look like some ancient warriors of heaven! Did you just make it all up?”
Yona places a hand on her friend’s shoulder, “it’s just a coincidence Hak, you don’t need to get so upset over it.”
“Yeah it’s just a story,” Yoon chimes in, “I ain’t in it either but I’m not mad.  You can see five characters on the scroll too.”
But of course, the jokester of the group couldn’t stay quiet.  “Awww, poor Hak.  Maybe you’re the Prince who sweeps in and steals one of Hiryuu’s daughters,” Jae-ha grins and gestures at Yona.  “We can call you the black dragon, since you’re always so moody.”
Mundok shifts in his seat expecting a fight to break out between the two boys.  But Hak’s face switches from anger to contemplation. Bringing a hand up to rub his chin, “I kinda like that… black…. Maybe the darkness dragon,” turning and smirking at Yona, “yeah… the one who wins the Princess’s heart.”  Groan erupt around the table while poor Yona is turning bright red.
“Okay, okay,” Mundok cuts in, “so basically, after uniting the kingdom, peace reigns, everyone lives happily ever after, the end.”
“Wait that’s it?” Kija questions.
“Well considering there wasn’t anything of significance to happen since then, what else is there to tell?” Mundok counters.  “The rest seems even more farfetched.”
“We’re listening,” Hak retorts.
“Okay fine, they say that the warriors had lived on, that their blood would be passed down along the generations and that one day a reincarnation of Hiryuu would bring them together once more.”
“Tch,” Hak leans in, “old man what do you think this is?” Gesturing around him, “reincarnation,” he points at Yona, “four warriors,” he points at the other boys, “you think this is a farfetched?”
~~
How many seasons have come and gone before this moment?  While never forgotten, the years since the accident have become a distant memory and so many wonderful new ones have taken their place.
“Next we have our Philosophy majors…”
Zeno stood from his seat and followed behind the other students waiting in line for their diplomas. One by one their names are read as they stepped onto the stage and as his was called, shouts rang out from the stands.
“ZENO!!!! ZENO!!!!!  ZENO!!!”
His brothers and sister screaming and waving with banners.  Zeno chuckles when he sees gramps flashing away with a camera as he accepts his degree.  He shifts the tassel over and raises the diploma case above his head.  It was a proud moment for not just him but his family, all of them.  For the brothers and parents, he lost, and the siblings and father he gained…
“First of us to graduate!” Jae-ha claps Zeno on the back.  “How does it feel old man?”
With tears streaming down his face and a babbling wreck, “My boy!” Mundok hugs Zeno tight.  “I’m so proud of you!”
Hak rolls his eyes, “Geez gramps the water works, you gonna do this every single time one of us walks the line?”
“Damn straight I am!” Mundok wipes away the tears.
Zeno smiles, “Thanks!” his eyes crinkling at the corners.  “I’m glad I have you all here to share this moment with.”
“Last of us guys to move in, first of us to move on huh,” Jae-ha quips.
“We’ll miss you when you leave,” adds Kija.
“Nope,” Zeno hugs the diploma to his chest, “I’m a homebody, so I’m not leaving anytime soon, I’d miss you guys too much.”
“Aww, you’re such a dork Zeno,” Jae-ha rubs his head, messing up his hair.
For the next few minutes the boys joke around and chatter together sharing in some hugs, and a few more tears.  Mundok hangs back with the widest grin still plastered on his face. He knew it was only a matter of time before one by one they will move on in their lives but that was okay.  Yoon came starved and now look at him healthy and fit.  Kija was such a lonely child and yet here he was laughing with life-long friends.
Shin-ah, sweet Shin-ah was still quiet, but he’s come so far from the emotionally bereft child he once was to one who could now be in the middle of a crowd without running away. Jae-ha, the problem child who swore to never be tied down.  Mundok had a feeling he might end up being the last to leave the house.  Then there was Hak and Yona and a knowing smile crosses his lips.  Those two still hid their feelings, but as anyone watched them, like now, he stood with his arm around her shoulders as she leaned in to him.  One day they would provide the next generation of the Son family.
Mundok thinks back to the dragon lore, wouldn’t it be crazy if it had come true?  Laughter rings in his head.  And why not?  They were like a modern-day version, he mused.
“Hey boys,” gathering them back together, “let’s get a picture then we can head on home for a small party.”
“Whoo hoo! Food!”  Shin-ah starts to sneak away.
“Oh no you don’t,” Jae-ha grabs his brother and pulls him to his side as the others bunch together in front of the camera.
“3…  2…  1…”
Within the month a new canvas painting hangs prominently next to the scroll in Mundoks living room…

I can’t help but feel you’re overestimating the “superpowers” part. Only Kija and Jaeha really use their powers when fighting, Shinah and Zeno’s are a big draw back on them so they rarely use them, and Hak was a former general so he trained his ass off to be that strong. But if they are as “overpowered” as you say, then how come there have been MULTIPLE situations where they all almost died and been separated. They’re not unstoppable gods, they have limits too bc they’re still human
Hi anon
Yes, they have a limit, but still their limit is far more ahead than that of an ordinary person. Their abilities far greater than that of an ordinary person.
They were caught in Xing because they didn’t want to start a war. In Sei arc they went willingly to the castles built in the middle of nowhere to look for Yona. In the Tully Tribe they got caught again, but in many of this situation, they could have freed themselves if they wanted. They got into some life-threatening situations, but not much in comparison to what would be threatening if they were 100% ordinary.
Most of the time if they face a villain, it is a quick job for them because they have superpowers.
I think it was said in Tully tribe arc that the dragons are equivalent of 10 000 soldier. This is a big advantage to Yona. I mean just try to feed, clothe or arm 10 000 soldiers vs 4 people (in the dragons case you don’t even have to give them any weapons) and this doesn’t even exhaust the list of things that would make a huge difference in Yona’s favour.
Really it does not matter if ultimately there is some limit to their supernatural power if absolutely no antagonists have superpower and can even compare with them or fight on equal footing with them.
As for Hak, he is overpowered, falling from the cliff and surviving or still fighting when many soldiers would be lying on their backs hoping for someone who knows medicine to take care of them like in the Tully Tribe arc.
I suppose that part of it is him being the main love interest and making him appealing to the audience - the handsome, strong guy who is head over heals in the main heroine, part of his feats are probably typical clichés for manga for teenagers which are often power fantasies for teenagers, so where you see the main character against a whole group of people, it is of course the main character who is going to win.
