So I've mentionned wanting to do a list of weird music recs a while ago, and the idea hasn't left me so here it is!

I need to show off my country a little bit! P'tit Belliveau is an artist from Canada, singing in chiac. What is chiac? It's actually a variant form of canadian french, spoken in the east of the country. It's honestly pretty cool sounding, and sadly not valued enough. Anyway, his videos are very 80's/90's graphics inspired (with a lot of weird ass CGI lately hahaha) and he just seems really friendly I love him

Of course a lot of people here will know them, as they were selected for eurovision 2020 (I have been following them since like 2014 and I was HEARTBROKEN when esc 2020 was cancelled I wanted them to win so bad haha). They've started as a band that made music a lot heavier (still weird though), but they've mellowed down in the latest years. After the war, Ilya and Sonya moved to the USA.

I have to speak about him because he's the person who started me on this weird music journey all the way back in 2009 (my mom HATES him for that HAHAHA I haven't been normal since). DJ Ozma was the pop side project of rock band Kishidan's lead singer, Ayanocozey Show. It lasted only for 3 years but oh boy what incredible 3 years they were. He was mostly doing japanese covers of kpop songs, with some original ones from time to time.

Momoiro Clover started as a fairly standard jpop idol group back in 2008 (I've been following them since then, it has been a while lol). In the following years, one of their members decided to leave to pursue an acting career instead. They switched the group name to Momoiro Clover Z and all the videos took such a turn, it was quite the whiplash. And it was for the BEST, they're aliens in the idol world, including the fact that some members are pushing 30 now! Their style is mostly back to normal nowadays, but they've still produced gems

Bandai Namco has announced “hero chain action” game Kamen Rider: Memory of Heroez for PlayStation 4 and Switch. It will launch on October 29 in Japan and Southeast Asia with English subtitles. It will cost 7,600 yen in Japan.

Early purchases include three types of special motions for Kamen Rider W, OOO, and Zero-One, as well as four pieces of equipment that increases experience and stamina (“Memory of Heroez,” “No Life is Easily Saved,” “Count Up Your Sins,” and “The Only One Who Can Stop You”).

Kamen Rider: Memory of Heroez follows an original story and promises to be a “much more evolved Kamen Rider experience than previous console titles.” In it, the player must battle while cleverly operating form changes and utilizing gadgets that have appeared in the Kamen Rider series.

Here are some 1 volume BL reviews!

1. Ultras (Est Em)

Est Em’s work is amazing, the art is always such a pleasure to look at! This volume is divided in three stories. The first (and longest story) is set in Spain, and is about Al and Leon, part of two rival Ultras (extra-fans of soccer) teams. After a one night stand, Al feels quite invested and attracted to Leon and tries to tentatively start a relationship with him, but the fact that they support two different teams, and are Ultras, is the main obstacle (if you are not from a country that has Ultras... let me tell you, this is quite a realistic obstacle!). Al is clearly the more level headed between the two, and doesn’t think being part of different supporters should be an obstacle, but for Leon soccer is also deeply part of his family. Thankfully, we also have a very sweet scene between Leon and his father, where the man reminds Leon that there is more than soccer in life. Luckily, the story has a nice happy ending but I wish it had been a bit longer, and more focused on the actual relationship instead of these ultras problems. I am not a fan of soccer and I feel quite negatively towards Ultras because of personal reasons, not to mention that the story did not even try to touch on the highly homophobic world of soccer.

The rest of the volume has one chapters short stories, nothing I particularly enjoyed (a part from the art, as excellent as ever). But read the last chapter, because it is a short extra story about the Ultras’ guys. (Another nice point: the two characters are probably switches)

2.  Yokubou Shounen (Naono Bohra)

This volume has 5 independent stories. I skipped the first story because it is the kind of story I HATE WITH A PASSION, where an adult guy ends up with a young guy after having met the young guy when he was waaaay too young. It just feels like some kind of uncomfortable grooming situation and I hate it, so I didn’t read it. 

The second story is about two high school friends, hiding feelings. Nothing too special. It is an average kind of story.

The third story has supernatural elements. It starts with Tanaka getting drunk after having lost his job and praying to be taken away by the moon. A bunch of shapeshifting spirits listen to his prayers and he is teleported to a magical place where the lord of Tigers, Tigure. Tigure wants to marry him. There is also insta love, and I ended up skipping it because the story seemed so cliche.

The fourth story was kind of cute and adorable, about a writer and a diner’s worker (a diner that the writer often visits) falling in love.

The fifth story is about a new to be family, where a single father meets a neighbor and they fall in love. I have to admit that this volume by Bohra is not one of my favorite, none of the stories was particularly exciting or different, so the final score will probably be a 2/5.

Translator’s Notes:

 [1] This uses a phrase that basically means “cutting the steering wheel” (ハンドルきる/HANDORU kiru).

 [2] He switches back and forth (as do a few of the other guys) between singular 俺 ore / rough-sounding “I” and rough-sounding plural “we” (using ore with suffixes tachi or ra).  I did my best with the pronouns in a couple places, but it wasn’t obvious if he was saying “we” or “I” in this line.  He said “I” in the Tokyo power-spot line, and then “we” in the certified invincible line next so…

 [3] This seems to be a play on 無免許 mumenkyo, meaning unlicensed (driver).  無敵 muteki means “invincible, unrivaled, undefeatable,” so basically, a license that can’t be taken away or a license to be whatever they want to be without limits.

 [4] The Ninja H2R is a hypersport motorcycle produced by Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd.  It’s apparently only intended for closed-course racing and is not street-legal (so you can’t drive it on public roads or highways).  It’s hella fast, with a quoted max speed of 240mph/380kph, and since it doesn’t have to meet sound ordinances for public-street use, it’s also super loud.

 [5] Kawasaki has a yakuza presence and is the home grounds of the Yamakawa-ikka syndicate.  More info here, though the page is only in Japanese.

 [6] The word used is 目覚まし mezamashi meaning “alarm clock” or “keeping oneself awake.”

 [7] The word used is つぶやく tsubuyaku, which could mean either “to tweet (as in on Twitter)” or “to mutter/grumble.”

 [8] Ikegami is a city in the Kawasaki ward.

 [9] Gull-wing car doors hinge at the roof rather than on the sides, so they open upwards.  Some older-model cars (Mercedes Benz from the ‘50’s and ‘70’s) had gull-wing doors; as far as I know the only recent-ish model with them is the Tesla Model X.  This could also refer to the style of door on many Lamborghinis, which open on an angle rather than a real gull-wing (also called scissor doors or Lambo doors.)  [10] This seems to be a variation of the idiom 石橋を叩いて渡る / ishibashi tataite wataru which is literally translated as something like “inspecting the stone bridge [for damage] before crossing.”  The English equivalent is “look before you leap,” meaning, think about what you’re going to do and weigh the consequences before proceeding.  The way he’s phrased it (叩かねぇ石橋 / tataka nee ishibashi) has removed the verb for “crossing” but turned the verb for “inspecting” to a negative as well – so it’s literally something like, “I’m not even checking that bridge,” which in turn means he’s not being cautious or careful, but just doing what he wants without really thinking about it too much.  More info on the idiom here (in Japanese only).

 [11] Jenga is a game of physical skill where players take turns trying to remove and replace wooden bricks from a stack which becomes increasingly unstable as the game progresses.  More on Jenga here.

 [12] 昔カタギ mukashi katagi literally means “old-fashioned spirit, old-fashioned way of thinking,” which is the kind of thing you’d say about someone who is stuck in the past and doesn’t see what’s going on around them.

 [13] He says コルクメット KORUKU METTO, which is literally “cork helmet.”  Specifically, pith helmets are made of cloth-covered Indian cork, so I assume that’s what it’s meant to refer to.  More about pith helmets here.

 [14] This is a little loose.  The actual word is 浮浪者 furousha which means “vagrant, vagabond, tramp.”  

 [15] This is the noun ガキ gaki, which is a kind of derogatory word for kids.  It’s usually “brats, urchins, little devils” and the like, not typically well-behaved children.  The kids in the tough neighborhoods where they grew up want to be successful like them; they’re not necessarily saying the kids themselves are bad, but the area they’re from is not the greatest, so they’re all kind of assumed (by people who don’t know them) to be punks and hoods.

 [16] This isn’t family in the traditional sense – 繋がれる tsunagareru is defined as “to be tied together, to be connected to, to be related to” but not necessarily in a blood-relative kind of way.  This is like, “We understand where you’re from because we’re from there, too.”

 [17] So, 泥水 doromizu can mean either “muddy water” or “red light district.”  I’m going with water, because these lines are saying “We used to be on the bottom, now we’re on top,” or “We went from rags to riches.”

 [18] The only real references to 少年A / Shounen A I found online were in relation to the Kobe child murders (the murderer was given the nickname Shounen A since he was too young to have his name released in the media) – but I think this is just meant to mean, “I went from being from some no-name kid nobody knew to being a superstar.”

 [19] ラジコン / RAJIKON is short for radio-controlled, often abbreviated R/C.  This is usually a toy (typically a car or other vehicle) that you can control with a joystick or buttons to drive it around.  From the “Ninja” reference, and the references to the Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle earlier, I’m guessing he’s talking about a radio-controlled motorcycle toy.

 [20] 任天堂ファミコン Nintendou FAMIKON was the original Nintendo “Family Computer” platform that was remarketed and exported as the Famicom or simply N.E.S. in the US.  It was one of the best-selling game platforms of all time.  More info here.

 [21] Al Capone (also nicknamed “Scarface”) was a notorious American mafia gangster. Al Pacino is an American actor who plays a lot of gangster-type characters in movies (including a few loosely based on Al Capone), but is not, in fact, an actual gangster.  So one is (was) way more dangerous than the other, who is only acting like a gangster.

KonoSuba New Game From Mages Announced on PS4, Switch

First story details, screenshots, preorders bonuses for the new KonoSuba Adventure game developed by Mages, coming to PS4 and Switch.

Mages announced on June 18 a brand new KonoSuba game, titled Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! -Kono Yokubou no Ishou ni Chouai wo!. it’ll launch in Japan on September 24, 2020, on PS4 and Switch.

The game is an ADV, meaning an adventure game akin to what most people outside Japan call a visual novel. Full-voice was confirmed.

The story of Kono Yokubou no Ishou ni Chouai wo  features the KonoSuba party, who during one of their usual quests, find a cursed tablet that lets its user freely generate clothes. The cast all get cursed with personality-reverse. Darkness turns into a sadistic queen, Megumin turns into a lolita and starts a Lolita Alliance, and Aqua turns into an actual goddess-like person. The characters will need to make and wear specific clothes with the tablet to break the curse. It’s a game where you can enjoy typical comedy situations of KonoSuba along with the cast acting out of character and wearing different costumes. Hence the Japanese subtitle, which can be translated to “Love For the Costumes of Desires”.

Like in a typical ADV or dating sim, players need to manage their schedule and money, to try to lift the curse from the characters before a time limit. You can also move around between locations via a menu. Everything seems text-based.

KonoSuba Kono Yokubou no Ishou ni Chouai wo will have a normal edition for 7800 yen (tax excluded) and a limited edition for 10800 (tax excluded). The limited edition will include a game OST CD and SD figures of Aqua and Megumin wearing special costumes. The Aqua one will be in the Switch limited edition. The Megumin one in the PS4 limited edition.

First print copies of the game will include a DLC code for a bonus shmup game.

This new game is a follow-up to Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! -Kono Yokubukai Game ni Shinpan wo!-, released by Mages on September 7, 2017, on PS4 and PS Vita. The game had a similar story, where protagonist Kazuma Satou was cursed to forcefully steal panties.

There are shop-specific preorder bonuses as well. As usual with these they are pretty raunchy, so scroll down to the gallery below at your own risk. KonoSuba is a series targeting a male teen audience, so the preorder goods focus on sexual fanservice of its female characters.
