I have! I haven't yet sat down and read through the entire thing yet, but, of course, I went through all the monsters. I'm most happy to see THIS guy:

The Yeongno, eater of the rich and abusive. They claim to be former celestial dragons who fell to greed, who must either consume or redeem 100 other destructively greedy mortals in order to shed their broken and condemned forms and return to Heaven.

My friend is developing a Pokemon fan game, so I sometimes help out with fakemon designs. This design was rejected right away. I know, my friend wasn't trying to make Pokemon Clover.

But when I found out on Reddit that Yeongno(Legendary Creatures of Korea) was being mistranslated into English and was being mistaken for a communist revolutionary, I couldn't stand it💀

A webtoon called How To Become a Dragon wrapped up recently, and then a spinoff started.

If I got to pick the subject of that spinoff, it would be the post-epilogue life of Huon, Sun, and Yeongno. Yeongno was an androgynous imoogi (snake that tried to become dragon but failed at the last step), Sun is a human whose ancestors were cursed by him, and the two of them developed an interesting relationship. Huon (whose ancestors were cursed by a different imoogi) gets a pretty straightforward crush on Yeongno.

Near the end of the pre-epilogue part of the series, for reasons too complicated to explain here, Yeongno reverts back to a snake egg, so Sun and Huon decide to raise him when he hatches.

And the bits of the epilogue focusing on that are nice! (Well, the joke about how Huon freaked out when he finally learned Yeongno was a guy all along was kinda dumb.) It's a very unorthodox family, and not just because of the weird supernatural circumstances, but everyone involved clearly cares about each other. And of course, there's the whole rest of the cast, who Huon, Sun, and Yeongno have history and chemistry with.

(Also, I wanted an excuse to share this panel.)

But the spin-off isn't about them. Instead, it's set in the distant past, and focuses on a love story between one of the other imoogis and a human. And it...eh. Yishmi didn't seem very interesting to me when he showed up in the main story, and nothing I've read in the prequel/spinoff/thing has changed my mind. It's not even an interesting romance. It's just a powerful supernatural dude coming across a suicidal lady and deciding he doesn't want her to die.

hi! we're actually opening in mid july but we decided to push our buzz and opening to the end of july (or early august?) the reason why we decided to push our dates back and have been letting this ask sit for so long in our inbox is because we have been thinking and want to tread very carefully so as not to misappropriate asian culture (despite one of the admins being chinese southeast asian herself!). we realized that in the middle of research, many of the supernatural creatures that we plan to make canon come from closed culture/religion/indegeneous practices, or that there's simply not much information about them on the internet that may prove to be useful for our members that would allow them to portray them in a way that is respectful of the source material. but one thing for sure is that being said, deities from closed religions/practices or any major religions are absolutely off the limits. moving on, some canon supernatural creatures that we have fully fleshed out are:

dokkaebi (grim reaper)

bunian (malay folklore beings, similar to european elves)

baku (japanese mythical creature with the ability to devour nightmares)

qilin (a benevolent chinese chimerical creature)
