BLMHTX-TSU

Collisions, Connections, & Intersections A BLMHTX symposium of art, film and critical dialogue about creating communities where ALL black lives matter. The College of Liberal Arts and Behavioral Sciences (COLABS) at TxSU and the Center for Engaged Research and Collaborative Learning (CERCL) at Rice University invites the Houston community to join BLMHTX for another experience of art, creative imagination and critical dialogue. The issues that impact black people are not one-dimensional, but are varied and interconnected. Racism often collides with, connects to, and intersects with other forms of oppression and fear, such as classism, sexism, homophobia, and transphobia. This symposium will explore variousparts of what is a complex web of oppressions and highlight what weaves them together. The community will not only be able to reflect on the multilayered nature of the issues that face black communities, but also be given a space to imagine and consider broad approaches that will enable all of us to engage in the work of building communities where black lives matter. On November 1, 2015, Alonzo Smith called out for help from people he said were trying to kill him.When DC police arrived, they found two 'Special Police'Marbury Apartment security guards with the power to detain, standing over his body. But instead of arresting the guards and providing information to the family, DC police initially called it a 'justifiable homicide' and have not released information.
