why are you so insistent on making Patrochilles so toxic...?????

This has been in my asks for a while

Disclaimer: I am NOT a psychology student nor am I an expert in this field. These are purely based on my observations (I am just a nerd yapping)😔😭

I see them as somewhat toxic (I'm using this term loosely) because they aren't as healthy as you perceive them to be if you take a look at their relationship in a psychological perspective which also explains their actions in the iliad.

Patroclus, as far as I know, has no relatives, children, or loved ones to live for aside from Achilles - his friend/companion/lover/etc. Of course he'd be devoted to him. They've slept with women and they had lovers of their own, but none of them seemed as significant or that important in their life - making it seem that the person they prioritize the most is each other.

Achilles was raised by his father and mother, but he was eventually sent off again and again from Phthia, to Pelion, to Scyros. Patroclus was believed to be with him from his time in Phthia until the Trojan war so it is no doubt he would treasure Patroclus like he did in the Iliad. He was the closest companion he had and was there for him from childhood to adulthood.

Now, the "toxic" part comes in their co-dependecy. Understandably, Achilles is devastated when he found out that Patroclus was dead. Undoubtedly, Pat would feel the same if Achilles had died first. The difference is that Achilles made Patroclus prepare for his passing (assigning him with his supposed funeral, taking Neo from Scyros to Phthia on his behalf, raising his son, etc.) while Achilles never even considered the thought of Pat dying in the war. This explains his immediate suicidal actions.

Achilles was prepared to leave (book 9) and take the other end of the bargain if his prophecy. If he hadn't seen Machaon on book 11, he wouldn't have sent out Patroclus and left Troy with him the next day.

Now, Patroclus is also co-dependent in that relationship because before his pleading with Achilles, he was also ignorant of the deaths of the Greeks (although it may or may not be under Achilles' orders, remember, Achilles is technically his prince), only acting when Nestor reminded him that he is older than Achilles and should help him in making the right choice (and seeing the battlefield/injured men up close).

They are not the "perfect" couple, but it's this complex relationship that they have that makes them so interesting.

Tldr: Achilles is super attached to Patroclus to the point he literally couldn't live without him; and Patroclus is utterly devoted to Achilles that he would go against his morals and try to ignore the deaths caused by the prince

There’s this one section of the game “Thank Goodness You’re Here!” where the salesman is sent off by Jasper to fetch some “spirit level bubbles” for him and his crew. I always found this part of the game to contrast the rest of the game pretty heavily, because for the majority of the game you never have any quarrels with townfolk, nor do they ever try to trick you; they only ever ask for help.

You can clearly tell that Florence and presumably Jasper are setting up the salesman for some sort of prank, which is odd to just suddenly happen out of nowhere. But what I think is more important is the outcome of this all.

If you’ve played the game—or at least watched a playthrough—you know that the spirit level bubbles really are in the back, and then the salesman catches one and flies through the roof into the sky. What I want to focus on is his expression as he floats up, away from the town.

There’s this sparkle in his eyes that has never appeared before in any previous scenes. This may just be me looking too deep into the game, but I think this highlights exactly the conflict that the salesman truly has with Barnsworth. From everything before this, he’s always been seen smiling, though lacking that little speck of light.

This moment in the sky, the moment where he is finally away from Barnsworth, away from the folks who never seem to have enough help, is where he finally shows happiness; it all builds up to this almost unusually beautiful moment in the game, accompanied by a one-time track that steadily settles in: This is peace.

That joy is soon eclipsed, though, when he falls back down and once again is dragged into another situation with the town. Bootleg Bill, assumed to be captured for good by the salesman, slowly escapes as the salesman watches him from a sea of cheering people.

The only time this glint of light is ever seen again is when he finally shuts the door on the town and severs himself from their world.

Now, I know, this may just be a lot of speculation. But I just wanted to talk about something ok

Quick little yap for today. It really bugs me when people talk about Joe and Booker having a friendly rilvary banter. They don't. Period!

In every interaction Joe and Booker have it's the most dude-bro friendship that doesn't border on homoerotic (although this is highly debated). Even Andy, who has the deepest connection with Booker (but that's another story), slaps him at one point and jokes about his explosion. There's a reason why Joe reacts in anger to Booker's betrayal, it's because he held so much trust with Booker and thought they had a close enough relationship to talk about this stuff.

there’s so much to unpack for this episode…

1. this panel is so fucking cute i love them i hope they explode the besties ever

5. a little birdy told me that tyler and aiden were gonna have some angst during the separation… could possibly be tyler totally breaking down because of his separation from taylor (red has confirmed they have separation anxiety) and then aiden has to awkwardly comfort him. OR it’s the other way around and tyler has to awkwardly comfort. i feel like tyler’s good at comforting but when it comes to aiden it’s a bit weird cause their relationship is more bickering than actually talking about feelings

Sorry for the thirty minute yap sessions guys this is the last one, I just wanted to talk about how David acts like he’s so smart but he’s actually really fucking stupid. Like he contributes nothing, not during the first trial, and not the second one either. “Teruko we know you killed Xan—“ please shut the fuck up sir. Also, he acts like he was being slick, like we’ve BEEN knowing that your ass was fake, bro didn’t even try to hide it. Like in the prologue, when he thought that nobody was around he was like “heh….this is so fucking stupid…” and then he got jumpscared by Teruko. HOW THE FUCK DID HE NOT SEE HER ANYWAY HELP? And then in the chapter two trial he’s really shit at lying, like motherfucker if you’re going to pretend you’re the murderer at least do it right 💀 or take a page out of Teruko’s book and defend yourself without just saying “I’m not the murderer” bcs obviously no one’s going to believe you if that’s your only defense. Look at this panel of Ego from chapter 8

Now look at Barou's shirt number. He has a 10 but...

Reading it from right to left is 01! Just like in Ego's panel!! (Keep this in mind while reading now, please)

Now, for context, in chapter 7, team X (Barous team) had to play against team Z (Isagi's team), a match that Ego called as "The battle to rebuild football from zero".

Barou's and Isagi's team were a complete mess because they all wanted to score, which made them all start stealing the ball from their own teammates.

This messy state stops the moment Barou scores, turning the score from 0 to 1, rebuilding his team order, and taking control over the game.

Barou was the "1" of team X. Barou was the cornerstone of the team around which they'd developed their strategies to win against Isagi.

*

(Doesn't sound familiar? Kaiser has a 10 on his uniform, and BM had him as his cornerstone too. Noa practically trained them while having Kaiser in mind as the focal point of their strategies to scores goals 0.0)

Now, after that, Bachira and Isagi decide that if their going to lose (which happened at the end), they must at least score one goal. Isagi was going to be the one to score until Kunigami asked Isagi for the ball, and Isagi passed it to him, letting him have the opportunity to score instead.

Now let's take a look at Kunigami's dorsal number!

It's a 9! He scored a goal so... 9+1=10!

10! just like Barou's dorsal number! and remember the first panel I showed of Ego and the one of Barou! Read 10 from right to left -> 01. Kunigami became the "1" of team Z turning when he turned the score from 0 to 1!

Now... why is this "becoming the 1" so relevant in these chapters? Let's look at chap.6 title:

"1 = Individual"

In other official translations, like the Spanish one, instead of individual they translated it to "individuality" and I find it more correct than individual. Although both could work depending on the context so I'll use both.

(If anybody has the Japanese translation, please tell me or correct me. I don't know how to find them :'D)

Back to the meaning of the "1", if the title of chap.6 is stating a fact in Blue Lock's world (that 1 = individual/individuality) then characters that have a 10 as their dorsal number could mean or represent that those characters are the embodiment of individuality / their own individual.

I believe this is true because Isagi's lesson in these chapters was to be his own individual, to reject that initial idea he had of always passing the ball to his teammates instead of being him the one to score. To "embrace" his individual desire of scoring a goal and "have his moment."

Barou tells him that in his own way and Isagi also notices that he hadn't changed that habit yet:

The fact that Barou was the one who told him this was no coincidence!!

He's the "1" of the team, the cornerstone. The only footballer that embodies his own individual and this individuality is one of a king. His own teammates recognise him as such.

Isagi himself says that Barou doesn't start from zero like the rest. He's straight up the 1!

* (Look at the panels above. The ones with a red asterisk on top. In those panels, Isagi says that Barou was the "1" right away. Tumblr image limit doesn't let me put more images, sorry😔)

Now... What I'm trying to prove with all this is 2 things about the meaning of the number on their dorsals:

the number 10 has something to do with the concepts of individuality / individual (1 = individual / individuality). It could mean the character embodies his own concept of individuality or has a clear idea of themselves as an individual, like Barou in these first chapters* seeing himself as "The King".

*he later on gets his ideals crushed by Isagi but that doesn't take away the fact that he had a clear perception of his individuality before so i think the point still stands.

the number 9 could represent a character who's potentially going to develop a sense of individuality or that they're evolving their previous idea of individuality. Like I showed before with Kunigami, who had a 9 in his dorsal, and after scoring, he turned the 0 into a 1 for the team, making him become the "1" *

*it wasn't as relevant to the plot or for Kunigami's character because they lost the match but I think, and if my point is right, the author still gave him the opportunity to score for 2 possible reasons:

to establish this dynamic of individuality and on the process to achieve individuality and

as a trigger for Isagi's seach for his own individuality.*

My gosh, how many times have I written "individual" and "individuality" already😭

* BTW, I think Isagi is still struggling with this thing of finding his individual self on the field despite having grown a lot from chap.1 to current chapters, and I think chap.281 proves this:

* The difference now is that he's now competing against the best of the best players what I think is a correct path for him since he's been thinking that he's one of them for a long time now... and that's definitely not the case. He still needs a lot to learn (this gives me hopes because the author might give his character more depth, but maybe I'm delusional).

Now, back to what i was saying. To prove my point properly I'd have to look for every relevant character on the manga that has these numbers on their dorsals and argue how they are depictions of this dynamic (I could do it in multiple parts while I'm now rereading the manga but I'd take me time since I've got a long way until I reach current chapters.)

I mainly wrote this because I feel like it works with Kaiser and Noa's dynamic, or it could be related somehow (I'll make it relate, idc, this has gotten longer than i thought)

The reason I believe this it's because of these panels of them:

Noa has the number 9

Kaiser has the number 10

Noa states that he's constantly evolving, that the title of the best was not something he was looking forward to. This puts Noa in a constant state of potentially achieving a new sense of individuality... Like he's constantly creating and destroying every new individual he reaches.

The thing with Noa is that he does not care about him being perceived by the rest as an specific "individual", he doesn'tcare about titles.

The world gave him the title of Number 1 (of the "1" I've been yapping about this whole time) but he doesn't recognise it. He actually believes that the real threat is MBappe- Loki (AND LOKI DOES HAVE THE NUMBER 10 ON HIS DORSAL!!1!1!1)

Now my glorious blue eyed king Kaiser has always been the "1" of BM (and of my heart) but it was because of Noa's plan.

Now Kaiser has rejected Noa's plan, creating his new story, hence, creating his own individual / acknowledging his own individuality. Kaiser is turning the 0 to a 1, his "zero self" into a goal (however it was blocked by Loki, another individual just like Kaiser. They basically clash because they're both the "1" of their respective teams).

If I'm right, this could possibly mean that if BM wins this match, it will due to Kaiser's goal, making him be the "1" of his team and proving, through soccer to Noa, that he is his own individual.

Armada/Micron Legend starscream is not the same person as Cybertron/Galaxy force starscream (Duh)

i mean obviously.....I know Galaxy Force/Cybertron was retconned to be a sequel to Superlink/Energon (in the dub? specifically i think?? i watched everything in sub so. whatever it got retconned regardless) but honestly i thought that was utterly stupid and i get a little sad when people see those two starscreams as the same person. please. I mean i giggled when i first found out about the retconning thing bcs shit don't add up at all whyd they even do that😭stupid as hell

Honestly i didn't like whatever nightscream was supposed to be (I know overall what happens with him, i read instead of watching the show. Superlink is the only show from the unicron trilogy i didn't watch. i got bored lmfao) but just the idea of starscream coming back just undermines his sacrifice in armada/Micron legend idk why people talk about that less but more about op getting revived in rid2015😭💀 also i heard that he was supposed to be thrust? man whatever fuck Superlink this is about Galaxy force

theyre like polar opposites LMFAO they couldn't be more far apart... despite being opposites though i like both of them for what they are. Micron Legend screamers like, anything but a starscream but thats fine (the original version of the anime was giving random ass names to characters on top of that. why is demolisher named ironhide😭🙏). Galaxy force screamer on the other hand, is an unapologetically EVIL HOE who only cares about himself. Personally i think we should put them in a little cage and watch them kill eachother

introducing weather & warfare, a fanmade splatoon idol group!! :)

lester and shelly form a primitive variant of the more modern idol groups that host the news sections in inkopolis and splatsville. under management of coastcast corporate, they hosted the show “weather & warfare” which was aired throughout all of inkadia from the years 11964 to 11972, announcing primarily weather conditions and stage updates. during their time on air they were the faces of various splatfests due to coastcast sponsoring the events.

lester grew up in the splatlands, a secluded and deeply cultured region at the time, before moving to inkopolis to host weather & warfare with her counterpart shelly. she was raised with a labor-oriented and positive mindset with which she continuously strives upwards on the social ladder. her energetic and passionate demeanor makes her come across as pompous, but she has a big heart.

“i love what i do, and i’m happy to have shelly by my side. brilliant woman, comes from the very top drawer, you can tell by ‘er comportment. ‘course getting to this point, it’s not been a cakewalk… but whatever life throws at you, y’oughta roll with the punches. i stood by that, and look where i’m now!”

shelly, while being of octarian origin and residence, stems from a bloodline that is financially powerful and highly respected by inkling folk. with this leverage, her family was able to move far away from inkadia independent of the army as the great turf war broke out, before she moved to inkopolis to host weather & warfare along with lester. despite growing up in a vastly different environment than most octolings, she retains the stoic, collected mannerisms that are idealized by octarian society.

“i pursued this job supposing that showbusiness will suffice. it turned out to be much more than i bargained for, and not at all in a bad sense. lester, although i incipiently held her for a dunce, showed me another perspective, a new incentive i’d been blind to. before i knew it, i caught myself riding along the versatile waves of inkopolis.”
