Ashlyn Banner Headcanon time! (Plus the group at the end!)

I just thought of this one.

so basically! We all know she is the whitest looking person in the group right- like if you didn’t know her you’d totally think she had complete gringa vibes, esp when it comes to food.

you could not be more wrong.

Anyway, one time Taylor decided it would be a good idea to dare her to do a spice challenge w her after discussing Indian food (bc Ash said she loves the super spicy stuff, but Tay was like “does she like ‘spicy’ or does she like //SPICY//) thinking it would be an easy win.

(Backstory: Taylor and Tyler used to do spice competitions growing up, and they’ve got pretty high spice tolerances too, and Tay is pretty confident in her skills.)

Wrong! basically Taylor got her ass handed to her because Ashlyn (the freak of nature she is) can and will shotgun a bottle of the worlds hottest ghost pepper hot sauce in one go and feel nothing. Apparently, she has gods highest spice tolerance and eats (casually, like it’s not mouth fire from the 19th circle of hell) the spiciest Thai, Mexican, and Indian food that she can get her hands on. (The sheer proximity to the SMELL of how spicy her food is makes Aiden cry. Every time, without fail. It even makes Tay’s eyes water a bit, which is REALLY saying something.)

One time on a road trip through Atlanta, she actually won a shirt for it. When she was 9. After a dance competition. There’s a picture of her on the spice champion wall there even with her still in performance makeup (it looks like a mugshot). She broke the record there for youngest and only person ever to finish The Hot Plate. Mike and Emma also have proof of said occurrence in the family photo album, next to her recital pics taken on their shitty Polaroid camera. They saved the shirt, too.

oh also- in terms of spice tolerance, the group rankings go like this:

Ashlyn (Ultimate freak status from the hot sauce incident)

Tay (can give Ash a good run for her money, but even she can’t do the hot sauce thing)

Logan (everyone was hella surprised by this, but he and Tay are on pretty level ground.

Tyler (spice tolerance has decreased a bit with age, but he’s in reaching distance of where he used to be)

Ben (actually is tied with Tyler)

Aiden (no tolerance. Pepper makes him cry.)

random aidlyn (platonic or not wtv you take it as) headcanons mostly about activities they like and dislike

thoughtof these while staring at a wall and talking to myself so i wanted to write them down somewhere (probably tons of spelling mistakes please ignore them)

roller skating

i’ve always seen fics and stuff where either ashlyn or aiden don’t know how to skate but i honestly feel like they’d both be SHREDDING on that floor.

ashlyn is more graceful and elegant with it (perks of being a ballerina). she can go fast and spin around without looking dumb, but she chooses to go steadier cause she likes it that way. tyler can’t skate for the life of him so sometimes she rolls past him for fun while watching him flail towards the wall. she throws in balancing on one foot for funsies and it gets him fuming

aiden on the other hand is absolutely wild when he goes skating. always pulling some weird tricks and speeding like nobodies business. he can like do that thing where you crouch while skating idk how to describe it.

one thing is that he has barely any regard for the people skating around him and has nearly ran over people multiple times before quickly serving out of the way.

then there was this one time he nearly ran over a five year old but then ended up just?? picking them up?? mid skate?? like just imagine him hoisting them by the armpits. keep in the mind the kid is confused as hell and doesn’t know why tf they started levitating. and then he just puts them near the wall where they won’t fall. ashlyn thought she was gonna witness a child get murdered and told him to be more careful.

ice skating

they are both practically the same when ice skating. both pretty good at it, but aiden always gotta be doing some shit.

he attempted to pull one of his moves that he did at the roller skating rink but then found out it was a lot harder in skates. he ended up crashing and gashing his leg cause the bottom the skates were so sharp. ofc he laughed it off while the others were freaking out.

ashlyn scolded him really hard and now always makes sure he’s going at a steady pace when ice skating. if she finds him going faster than one mile per hour she has to manhandle him and aggressively grip him until he admits defeat and goes at a steady pace again

swimming

now here’s where it switches up, i whole heatedly believe that ashlyn is an AWFUL swimmer. she refuses to have her feet not touching solid ground and will not step foot in water that is taller than her. whenever she swims she ends up using her legs more than her arms and splashes everyone around her cause she can’t keep them underwater.

she CAN float on her back but dislikes it cause water easily gets into her ears and obviously they’re sensitive. so she will only step foot in a pool if she has a floaty or twelve noodles to hold onto.

does she have the ability to learn to swim? yeah. does she want to learn? nah. her parents, just like with ballet, wanted to sign her up for swimming classes when she was a kid. and you know how ashlyn learned a bit of self-defense before quitting? it ended up just like that and she stopped learning after like two days.

now aiden is a pretty good swimmer but he ALWAYS splashes. like in all directions. no one can tell if he does it on purpose to piss them off or if he genuinely only knows how to swim like that. either way he finds it funny.

he likes going underwater and grabbing peoples legs. not to pull them down or anything but just to scare them enough to THINK they’re being pulled down. he doesn’t do it to ashlyn though cause she already can’t swim and doesn’t wanna make an attempt to scare her (also her reflexes are fast as hell she would definitely kick him in the face before he could swim out of the way)

roller coasters

ashlyn isn’t afraid of rollercoasters she just doesn’t like them. she doesn’t find them that enjoyable and it bothers her ears when the ride gets too high and there’s a lot of air pressure. she’ll mostly have a stone face after the ride is over which they thought was because she was frozen with fear. it was actually cause she didn’t gaf about it.

but like she isn’t going to ruin everyone’s fun. if they’re all going on the ride, she will too. sometimes someone offers to stay behind with her but she refuses and doesn’t wanna be a burden (trauma from the phantom dimension unfortunately, she doesn’t want to be responsible for someone else’s displeasure after thinking she got them all stuck there)

now aiden over here loveeessss living up to his name as “mr. durable.” he will go on any ride no matter how horrifying it looks. “12 people died on that ride in the past year? i wonder if ill die too!” that’s his entire thought process. he doesn’t gaf he’s in it for the thrill.

once said something along the lines of “imagine if the tracks just ended as we were heading down lol.” he nearly made someone on the ride puke from nerves after saying that and got pinched really hard by tyler.

guys hear me out (not in a sensual but in a “this would be fucking cool” type of way) but imagine aiden and tyler having longer hair next season

aiden puts his hair in a ponytail and tyler just hangs his down to look more like taylor (his hair isn’t hellishly long but its long enough where you can visually tell it changed)

aiden lowkeyyyy considers dying his hair some crazy color and tyler’s like “absolutely fucking not” with aiden saying “but i’ll be more unrecognizable!!” safe to say it was because his black roots were growing out a LOT and he didn’t wanna see them. he also wanted to try something new

eventually he loses the contacts too and ends up being blind as a bat next season (cause his vision is canonically shit)

anyways they’re both suffering with each other but are *slowly* starting to tolerate each other more after being stuck together for who knows how long

+ bonus

ashlyn cuts and dyes her hair black so she can’t be recognized, but doesn’t cut it too short cause she doesn’t want to look similar to herself in the phantom dimension

ben keeps cutting his hair so he’ll probably look the same (he’s cursed this way sorry guys) but he looks like ur average jo so no one really suspects him on the streets

logan’s hair will have either grown out a lot at the facility or they gave him a buzz cut. let’s hope it’s the first option.

taylor badly cuts her hair to look like tyler and ends up looking like she’s balding. she looks HORRENDOUS.

just wanna say that when i first heard about sbg and saw an ad for it YEARRSSSS ago, i thought the plot was completely different from what it was now.

i thought it was a zombie apocalypse that takes place at a school, seeing as it was called “school bus GRAVEYARD” i thought they were the last survivors and had to work together while zombies infested the school or something

i mean i guess i wasn’t TOO far off but it’s funny

the ad was actually of that scene where ashlyn was asking her parents if her shadow look ed weird and it was on instagram

i’ve seen someone say that this fandom is “allergic to queer ships” just because they like… prefer aidlyn… which is the most implied…

like i don’t really care for taylyn, tyden, ashler, tayden, etc but if i were to say that to someone they’d only listen to the “i dislike taylyn and tyden” and say im homophobic?? like hello did u not hear me list the other two straight ships that i clearly dislike 😭

NO UR SO RIGHT CAUSE IVE SAID THIS BEFOREEEE. taylor was literally on the promo poster for season two but she barely had a character arc this season and it pissed me off. she yelled at aiden’s mom like??? one time??? and that was it???

i try to include her everytime i talk about what happened to their dad and it’s so annoying when people think tyler’s the only one who suffered. i wanna see more of her perspective after he passed.

one of my least favourite things about some of the SBG fandom is that when talking about the Hernandez family they'll talk about Tyler but not Taylor? As if she also didn't have a father who passed away at a young age and had a mother who became unable to take care of them? When talking about characters who put on a façade It's all about Aiden, again, what about Taylor? In all flashbacks she looks so empty but now she's bubbly and the nice, of course I do think she is genuinely nice but I also think she puts a front for her family so that things looks fine at home.

Personally I think that whilst Tyler was balancing taking care of the house and baseball, Taylor was the one taking care of her mom and in turn saw a lot of what losing Ethan did to her. You can see her try to change the topic at Lily's birthday when Mariana brought up Ethan into the conversation. Dealing with a mentally unwell parent and trying to care for them can do immense damage to a young child already grieving. She probably thought she wasn't doing enough for her family when in fact nor Tyler or Taylor should've dealt with the responsibility of taking care of the family

Her trauma is probably the MOST overlooked out of all of the main six and it's honestly sad.

taylor thought it would be a cute idea for them to have a shared spotify playlist. any of them could add whatever songs they wanted and then they’d play it when they’re driving together.

tyler’s opposed to this idea cause he know aiden’s gonna put some dumb shit on the playlist to mess with them

aiden proved tylers point by putting like 100 different covers of party rockers on it.

ashlyn eventually got fed up with this and deleted them all but let him keep the original song

logan doesn’t really add to the playlist cause he feels like no one’s going to like his music taste. they assure him that they realllyyy don’t gaf what he puts on and it CANT be worse than aiden’s (it really wasn’t worse)

i feel like it would be kinda funny if logan listened to heavy metal so whenever one of those songs come up on they’re like “WHO ADDED THIS.” they all assume it’s aiden despite his protests

aiden listens to EVERY GENRE. he has the mindset of “if it sounds good i’ll listen to it” there’s not really a specific genre he likes.

ashlyn likes to listen to the playlist by herself cause she likes being reminded of them. she loves her friends a lot but doesn’t like expressing it cause she doesn’t know how to and is kinda embarrassed. so she shows it in private. sometimes she just puts it on as a fun game to guess who added which one

aiden considered adding louder songs for fun but remembered ashlyn’s hearing and decided to just forget about it. he’d rather not take the chance of making her uncomfortable for a stupid prank

taylor also listens to the playlist by herself. one time she was sad and put on the playlist to feel better. unfortunately for her the playlist conveniently put on all sad songs and she ran out of skips….. thennnn the lorax came on.

also to make it worse tyler walked in on her when this happened and got creeped out when he saw taylor’s sobs immediately switch up to laughter. safe to say he slowly backed out of the room..

random headcanon thingy i thought of

i think ashlyn is going to be EXTREMELYYYY cautious around adults that aren’t her or her friends parents. ever since the incident with jasmine and mr. thomas she gained a shit ton of trust issues.

mr. thomas did most of the damage, considering they thought they could confide in him and he stabbed them in the backs (or in the arm, quite literally) AND was revealed to be a whole different person 😭

ofc the others are probably going to have trust issues as well, but ashlyn feeling like she’s the cause of everything, is definitely going to be more wary cause she doesn’t wanna “cause” another incident. her stranger danger and fight or flight responses are going to be acting up a LOT.

like, if she dropped something and someone picked it up trying to give it back to her, she wouldn’t even look back once they call her. she’d just keep walking along. cause the LAST time they stopped to listen to some random woman they got trapped in another dimension…

and she hates those people that follow you around trying to get you to buy stuff. she nearly twisted someone’s wrist once. (aiden is struggling trying to keep ashlyn in check ALONG with ben, though his anger issues are getting better)

“hey… let’s calm down..” as ashlyn’s giving him the dirtiest glare. she eventually simmers down and he buys her icecream or something idk
