Big Mouth

This 16 episode long series had me at the edge of the seat from beginning to end. It kept me guessing and each plot twist made things more complicated. It was heart breaking in its injustice and there were things that were never really clarified. There were murderers that stayed unpunished and the mystery behind Chairman Kang was left in the air; but I still liked it. This is the kind of series that is best experienced without knowing much so I won't say anything else.

But if you like crime stories, i recommend this series.

Taxi Driver 2 Ep. 11 to 14 "Black Sun"

The series is based on real-life heinous crimes committed in Korea and has received praise from viewers for its performances and storylines.

The episodes 11 to 14 are based on the real-life case known as the "Burning Sun Scandal".

Burning Sun Scandal

The Burning Sun scandal, also known as Burning Sun gate, was a 2019 entertainment and sex scandal in Seoul. The scandal involved several celebrities, including Korean idols of popular K-Pop groups, and police officials. It was the largest scandal to hit the K-Pop industry. The allegations of sex crimes have added to the country's "molka" epidemic, which refers to the online distribution of nonconsensual sex videos taken of women. The scandal has become political fodder, with parties arguing over how to handle it.

On January 28, 2019, MBC Newsdesk reported an alleged assault of a male clubgoer by a staff member at Burning Sun, a prominent nightclub in Gangnam, in November 2018. The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency investigated the club for alleged involvement in prostitution, drug trafficking, and police corruption. On March 11, 2019, Seungri, one of the club's directors and member of the boy group Big Bang, resigned from the entertainment industry after being charged with sexual bribery. The scandal involved allegations of rape and spy cams. Singer and entertainer Jung Joon-Young confessed to secretly filming himself having sex with women and sharing the videos without their knowledge or consent in the Jung Joon-Young KakaoTalk chatrooms. He resigned from the entertainment industry on March 12, 2019.

SBS funE discovered videos and chat conversations related to the Burning Sun scandal. The videos and chats date back to 2015-2016 and involve Jung, Seungri, and acquaintances. The exposé of the chatroom immediately affected several celebrities, with more being affected as the case developed. Yong Jun-Hyung of Highlight and Choi Jong-Hoon of F.T.Island resigned from their positions on March 14. The agency for Lee Jong-Hyun of CNBLUE admitted his involvement on March 15 after allegations that he participated in the chatrooms.

Legal proceedings, related to the scandal continued into 2021. Some police officers were disciplined for their actions at the Burning Sun club. However, the two most high-profile cases resulted in acquittals.

During the trial, Burning Sun's CEO, Lee Sung-Hyun, testified that he had paid former police officer Kang to cover up an incident involving an underage clubgoer. Nevertheless, Kang's one-year prison sentence was overturned due to lack of evidence.

A senior police official, Yoon Gyu-Geun, was arrested for allegations of bribery and mediating favours for the Burning Sun club and others. However, he was found innocent at his first trial. This case was well-publicized.

Burning Sun's CEO, Lee Moon-Ho, was sentenced to one year in prison on habitual drug use, including ecstasy and ketamine in Gangnam clubs. Additionally, one of the club's promoters, MD Cho, was sentenced to four years and six months for drug use and smuggling.

Police conducted drug sweeps at entertainment venues due to public interest in the scandal. The sweeps yielded hundreds of drug-related arrests, with a large percentage involving ecstasy and GHB, a commong date rape drug. Cases of sexual assault and rape, as well as the filming of illegal videos during drug use, were also discovered.

Seungri's business associate, Yoo In-Seok, admitted to providing prostitutes to potential Japanese investors and received a suspended sentence of three years probation for embezzlement.

Yang Hyun-Suk, former CEO of YG Entertainment, admitted to illegal gambling and money transactions in Las Vegas casinos. He was fined, along with three associates from YG and YGX.

Seungri's case concluded in January 2022 in a military appeals court. He received a reduced prison sentence of one and a half years and a fine. The court found him guilty of nine charges, including habitual gambling overseas, illegal money transactions, prostitution mediation and purchase, instigation of violence, violation of the Specific Economic Crimes Act, embezzlement, sharing illicit photos, and a violation of business operations.

4 Years Later: Where are they now?

All of the convicted, except for one, have been released from prison.

Jung Joon-Young

Jung Joon-Young owned the main chatroom where illegally taken sex videos were shared. The scandal was discovered when Jung Joon-Young took his phone in for repair, and the chat was discovered.

He received a six-year prison sentence for gang sexual assault and for taking and sharing illegally obtained sex videos. However, his sentence was reduced to five years after he submitted documents expressing his regret. He is expected to be released in late 2025.

Choi Jonghoon

Choi Jonghoon, a former member of F.T.Island, was sentenced to five years in prison for participating in two different gang rapes. However, his sentence was later reduced to two years and six months after reaching a settlement with his victims.

The former idol was released from prison in November 2021. In January 2022, news agency "The Fact" shared footage of Choi attending a church service with his mother. The encounter quickly turned physical. Choi did not answer any questions about returning to the entertainment industry.

Seungri

Seungri participated actively in Jung Jonn-Young's chat rooms, where they shared illegal sex videos and rated the women they had sex with. He was investigated only for his participation in the chat room and reportedly shared only one photo he found online.

Seungri received a three-year sentence for nine charges, including prostitution, prostitution mediation, embezzlement, violating food safety laws, habitual gambling, and violating the foreign exchange law. Netizens were surprised when he was released after serving only 18 months.

Yong Jun-Hyung

Similarties between Burning Sun and Black Sun

There are certain parallels between Burning Sun and Black Sun. Let's examine eight parallels between Black Sun Taxi Driver 2 and Burning Sun.

Names and information about the offenders to the victims

There isn't much of a difference between Burning Sun and Black Sun's given names. Just that, even though the characters' surnames or designations differ slightly, they are similar.

Bir kısım yaşım büyük olduğu için bana hitap etmedi derken, bir kısım bende üniversite öğrencisi olduğum için çok beğendim şeklinde yorumlar yapmışlar. Ben iki kesime de maalesef katılmıyorum. Diziye objektif olarak yaklaşırsanız, bir hikayeyi oldukça kibar ve eğlenceli bir şekilde anlattığını fark edeceksiniz. En nihayetinde İzleyici olarak kimse yalnızca kendi yaş aralığının hikâyesini izlemiyor. Kaldı ki, Kore dizilerinde oyuncuları ilk okula da koysan oynuyorlar, 45 yaşın bunalımını anlatan bir diziye de koysan oynuyorlar. Bu durumun oyunculardan da kaynaklandığını düşünmüyorum. Dizinin Kore'nin Milli Haltercisi olan Jang Mi Ran'ın hayatından esinlenildiği yönünde bilgiler mevcut.

Dizi; halterci bir kızın aşkı keşfetmesini konu alıyor. Yaptığı spor dalı nedeni ile kilosunu muhafaza etmesi gerekirken, bir zayıflama merkezinde doktor olarak çalışan kendinden yaşça büyük Jung Jae-Yi (Lee Jae-Yoon)’ye ilgi duymaya başlıyor. Jung Jae-Yi’nin kardeşi Jung Joon-Hyung(Nam Joo-Hyuk) ise halterci kızımızın ilk okuldan arkadaşı çıkıyor. Aynı zamanda aynı üniversitede yüzücü olarak eğitim alıyor. Kulağa bir aşk üçgeni gibi gelse de dizinin kesinlikle öyle bir havası yok. Halterci kızımız Kim Bok Joo (Lee Sung-Kyung), erkek gibi büyümüş, romantik duyguları tatmamış bir genç kız olduğu için ona iyi davranan yetişkin bir erkek gördüğünde hayranlık ile aşkı karıştırıyor. Dizideki genel insan ilişkileri, sevgi dozları, iş ilişkileri her şey çok dozunda ayarlanmış. Yüzücü gencimiz Jung Joon-Hyung ile aralarındaki diyalog ve arkadaşlıklarının gelişimi ise diziyi izlemeye değer kılıyor.

Oyuncu olarak Nam Joo-Hyuk ile sanırım ilk kez burada tanıştık. Açıkçası sonrasında izlediğim rolleri dahil kendisini hiç sevemedim. Bu dizide izlerken evet yakışmıştı ama bana hep bir şekilde itici geldi. Kendi adıma elektrik alamadım diyebilirim. Öte yandan Lee Sung-Kyung da ilk defa bu dizide karşıma çıkmasına rağmen kesinlikle rolün hakkını vermiş son derece sempatik bir oyuncuydu. Karakteri tam anlamı ile yaşıyordu. Koreli minyon kızlar için bir halterciyi oynamak oldukça zor olsa gerek.

Diğer tarafa geçecek olursak, ben yan karakterleri çok sevdim. Her biri kendi içinde çok keyifli, gerçekten yardımcı karakterlerdi. Ana karakterlerin hikayesini anlatmak için içi boş görüntü olsun diye yazılmamışlardı. Bok joo’nun amcasını daha önce Oh my Ghost da izlemiştim. Rahatsız edici ama aynı zamanda şeytan tüyü olan bir oyuncuydu. Burada da görmek hoşuma gitti. Keza arkadaşlarını ve onların hikayelerini izlemekte tatmin edici oldu. Aynı zamanda konuk oyuncu olarak kısacık görünen Park Seo-Joon ve Lee Jong-Suk da göz doldurdular.

Sonuç olarak sadece bir aşk hikayesi izlemedik. Bir grup insanın hayatlarına kısa süreliğine ortak olduk. Yaşadıkları kaygılara, sorunlara, hayallere, hedeflere tanıklık ettik. Genel olarak bütün konular izleyici sıkmadan küstürmeden kısa sürede çözümlendi, bağlandı. Dizi finali ise üzmedi. Son bölümlerde saçmalayıp, gereksiz final yapma çabasına girmedi. Tatlı tatlı, olması gerektiği dozda ve sakinlikte tamamladılar. Efsane bir final olduğunu söyleyemem ama kesinlikle normal bir finaldi.

I think I will be including “My Expectations” of the show now as I personally feel like the expectations I have regarding a show would set how well I would receive it. Also, TL;DR at the bottom of the post.

My Expectation of Hospital Playlist

I started watching Hospital Playlist when it was only 2 episodes in. It was a Friday night and I was tired from work and decided to watch Hospital Playlist on Netflix. It was a new show that came out around the same time as Eternal Monarch which I was looking forward to (yikes). The only thing I knew about the show was the Netflix synopsis, and TL;DR -- follow a group of doctor-friends in their every day lives, and admittedly, the show started off with setting the tone well. 

I was initially expecting it to be a typical medical hospital drama, who to save first, upper management expectations versus the reality -- the usual. Despite the show starting off at the ER and introducing the main cast, it did a really good job of not being a typical medical drama, and honestly, I was hooked. I found myself looking forward to Hospital Playlist more than Eternal Monarch (before things got really confusing).

“Episodes feel longer than it is, but in a good way”

It’s a really good show to wind down to, especially if it’s a stay-in Friday, or even a Saturday morning show. There is no intense action, not too much fluffy romance, no back-stabbing politics. In fact, there’s no one big or overarching story plot that the show uses to drive the story, just the small arcs here and there. Simply a group of friends who are doctors, and watching them live their lives and all the highs and lows that come with it, and how they shared those moments with each other.

I love how the show doesn’t put the spotlight on the main cast alone, even the supporting characters have an impact in the show as a nurse, a med student, a resident, or just parents and the patients themselves—there really is no traditional “lead”. Character interactions are just so entertaining and/or engaging, and seeing the backstory(ies) of the main gang and seeing their inner-workings is just a treat.

Though some of the script and conversation is mindless chatter, it really helps with pacing out the show. Often, I tend to put pause on a show after something major happens to absorb what just happened or take a breather, and I realise that the episode is coming to an end. But this show’s different. When I pause to absorb something or catch my breath, the show is only a third or half way through, and boy, that is honestly the best feeling I could get all week, and by no means is the show draggy or slow.

There’s nothing more to say except for “Can’t wait to season 2″.

TL;DR: Show about watching this group of friends and the people in their lives living their day-to-day. A simple no frills show that keeps you entertained, a solid recommendation.

I felt like forever watching this drama. Every episode is like 2 hours so I'm like budgeting my hours per day lol. However, I learned a lot from these gals. Though my weakness is memorization, I think I can do it too if I focus in my dreams. Dreams seemingly attainable because people surround them were supportive and friends are family to them. In this drama, you'll learn to know the value of life, the life of doctors, the life of being saved by them. My bias here is Lee Ik-Jun! Hands down to the director!!! I can say that he's such brilliant. I've already watched Reply 1988 and so many references remind me of the guys and how their friendship were just like in Hospital Playlist. Amazing and worth the watch❣❣❣ The soundtracks will make you sing on the top of your lungs!

TV CHOSUN's weekend mini-series 'Red Balloon' is exploding 'empathy firepower' with realistic narration and a vivid reality story.

'Red Balloon' (script Moon Yeong-nam/director Jin Hyung-wook/producer Green Snake Media, Highground) tells the thrilling and thrilling story of relative deprivation, the thirst for stomach-ache, and our struggles to quench that thirst. We looked at three special reasons why 'Red Balloon' was well-received by maximizing viewers' empathy.
