Bollywood Movies Part CCXIII
Ibrahim (Roshan Mathew) has to decide whether to aid SI Sathyan (Murali Gopy) in transferring murderer Vishnu (Sagar Surya) into police custody or give him up to Laiq (Prithviraj Sukumaran), a fanatic who desires religious retribution.
Kuruthi is a great movie about how religious fanaticism of all colors is destructive. I especially enjoyed Mamukoyya as Moosa Khader who is the voice of reason, even though he's not often listened to. It was also fun to see Prithviraj stretch his villain acting muscles. Favorite songs are Mankoodil and Vetta Mrigam. Both songs have English subtitles.
Anshul Malhotra, code name Bell Bottom (Akshay Kumar), works to release hostages on a plane hijacked by Azaadi Dal, which Anshul believes is a front for Pakistan's intelligence service.
Bell Bottom is loosely based on various plane hijackings in the 1980s by Sikh Separtists but blames them on Pakistan which is historical revisionism to further the conflict between India and Pakistan. Also, I do not remember much about the movie and it blurs with all the other Akshay Kumar spy films. Favorite songs are Khair Mangde and Tum Aaogey. Neither song has subtitles.
Vibhu (Saif Ali Khan) and Chiku (Arjun Kapoor) are two brothers who run an exorcism business, even though Chiku believes in the supernatural while Vibhu does not. One day they meet Maya (Yami Gautam) who wants them to exorcise a kishkandi that their father famed exorcist Ullat Baba (Saurabh Sachadeva) had previously trapped.
Bhoot Police is very silly and an entertaining watch. You could tell the actors, especially Saif Ali Khan, were having fun during this film. Also the ending is quite wholesome. Favorite song is Aayi Aayi Bhoot Police (transliterated Hindi subtitles).

There was a moment a bit back, I don't remember exactly which movie I was watching when I had this thought, where it seemed like Abhishek Bachchan had finally found his own footing. For the longest time, and probably quite honestly forever, he'll always be in the shadow of his father. But while earlier it seemed like he got roles that people thought his father would have done well in back in his heyday, Abhishek has shown a willingness to break away and do unconventional sorts of roles. I mean, he's no Ayushmann Khurrana or anything, but he is definitely someone that has become much more enjoyable to watch in his roles.
The Big Bull, Bob Biswas, Dhoom (of course), Dostana, Housefull 3, Bol Bachchan - and now, without doubt, this one. This movie is a lot of fun almost immediately, and definitely once he gets in jail and once Yami Gautam shows up. And as things progress, you find yourself having a lot of fun with it. It sort of takes on the education system, maybe as Taare Zameen Par and 3 Idiots did, but without the emotional tugs of the former or the slightly overly-exaggerated delivery scene of the latter, and keeps things entertaining even as it sort of tells 2 simultaneous stories - his in the prison, his wife's as the CM.
I mean, obviously he also benefits from a very individualized study focus and plan - all his "teachers' gear their teachings to things he understands, which obviously cannot happen in an actual school setting where you have tons of students who all have different interests and different things that would make sense to them.
However, with that said - there's a lot to be said for the power of education, and that initial emphasis on 'history repeats itself' is brilliant. And while it won't do anything cuz politicians are asshats, it is nice to see the story. Maybe one day someone in power will actually give a damn.
It's also sad how this thing that has been so common their, especially in movies but even in real life, about corrupt politicians literally being treated like celebrities (the riots, the fanfare, etc.) is becoming a thing here too. Backwards.
'Absolute power corrupts absolutely' is such a brilliant statement to sum up his wife's transition in this movie - and while it is sad to see to corruption and power-hungry craze set in, it is nice to see how they portray it happening and, when threatened with the loss of this power, how she reacts. That is the problem with power, of course. And that is why there needs to be some limits on the power, and some requirements for whom can be in power - something about humanity and what-not. Because otherwise you end up in a backwards-moving condition.
All 3 of our leads in this movie are absolutely brilliant, and the interactions between all 3 of them are genuinely great (and, frequently, funny). The dialogues we get between Abhishek and Yami are a ton of fun - and his progression throughout the movie, even if he doesn't want to admit it, is very well portrayed.
There was a major misfire a bit back with Sanam Re, but between her roles in Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga and this movie, Yami Gautam is definitely doing a great job at picking her roles lately (even A Thursday, which I haven't seen, is supposed to be pretty dang good).
The song Macha Macha Re is a lot of fun, and will definitely be playing on repeat at work tomorrow.
Yeah, this is an excellent movie.

Oh My God – Part 2 (2023): What A Disaster!
Har Har Mahadev! A sequel to the 2012 Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal-starrer OMG (Oh My God) has finally released on the Bollywood big screens after 11 years on August 11, 2023. Titled OMG 2 (Oh My God – Part 2), this comical family drama has been written and directed by Amit Rai and stars Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi. “Oh My God!” That’s what you will exclaim after watching this disastrous sequel. OMG 2 (2023): Presenting Akshay Kumar As Lord Shiva! HAR HAR MAHADEV! https://youtu.be/TrVaKSCUttU?si=j-JZjJ8hTEFCVj_B OMG 2 (Oh My God – Part 2) tells the story of a Lord Shiva devotee named Kanti Sharan Mudgal (Pankaj Tripathi) whose son’s self-pleasuring video went viral when he was caught in the act at school. His son got rusticated from school and now, Kanti Sharan Mudgal must fight a case in court against the school authorities to admit his son back to school. And who do you think comes to his help? It’s none other than Lord Shiva as Akshay Kumar or Akshay Kumar as Lord Shiva. Excuse me for the joke! Watch the movie to find out what happens next. Presenting Akshay Kumar And Pankaj Tripathi In OMG 2! https://youtu.be/xZ1FXdIGf9Q?si=fsHuV6m_Uj2t3icA OMG 2 (2023) Official Trailer: https://youtu.be/Y6ZKXqM7HNQ?si=jaBFJR4C2pLQwYyB The Good: The cinematography and visuals in OMG 2 were pleasing and the songs too are good, but nothing extraordinary. Apart from these, there is hardly any “Good” about this sequel. If you would like to watch Akshay Kumar in yet another of his series of flop films, you are most welcome to watch this one! https://youtu.be/s1j9Z01McSg?si=46vWpTs6w0uLf-jY The Bad: If you compare OMG 2 with its 2012 prequel which featured Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal, it doesn’t seem to match up to it. In OMG, Akshay played Lord Vishnu and in OMG 2, he plays Lord Shiva. The fact is that the prequel was an entertaining comical family-drama but talking about this sequel, its plot and theme are completely based on a sensitive and bold topic! That is masturbation and sex education in schools. And I must tell you that this sequel got delayed a lot by the Indian Censor Board and 20 cuts were advised by the Censor Board in its screenplay, after which it was allowed to be released. Some of the scenes were so bold that they were not appropriate to be shown to the conservative Indian society. The argument-laden courtroom drama of OMG 2 lacks humor, is not convincing, and doesn’t instill a sense of belonging to the audience. The screenplay of OMG was exciting and this sequel lacks that thrill. Certain scenes in the screenplay are direly unconvincing as here you would see the prosecutor (Yami Gautam) delivering weird dialogues as if she doesn’t know how sex education is given at schools. She can be seen questioning the judge, “How can sex education be delivered at schools?” This was not appropriate for the character of a senior lawyer that she plays. As a senior lawyer, she has no idea how sex education is delivered at schools? You must be kidding me! She can also be seen asking Kanti's son at the climax, “Where’s your shameless dad?” Here I object because I agree that the boy was caught in the act of masturbating at school, but does that mean his dad is shameless, just because he is fighting a case for his son? https://youtu.be/XNMyasqlvew?si=lQxDaNizIb4-pTJ7 By the screenplay of OMG 2 not instilling a sense of belonging, I meant that it lacked emotions and also got confusing at times. As the screenplay proceeds, you will feel that Kanti Sharan Mudgal was fighting the case for his son’s readmission at the school, and in other instances, you will start feeling that he was actually fighting to make the school authorities feel sorry for what they did to his son. So, this change in attitude of the character of Kanti Sharan Mudgal (played by Pankaj Tripathi) creates a lot of confusion. If you ask me, his character does not stand up to the character that was played by Paresh Rawal in OMG. Talking about Akshay Kumar, seeing him as Lord Shiva was equally disappointing. I feel Akshay needs to decide what he actually is. Is he Lord Shiva or is he Lord Vishnu? Maybe in OMG 3, we will see him playing Lord Brahma. The editing of OMG 2 dragged the film for a good 2 hours and 35 minutes. To be precise, there are lots of loose patches. A sex education-based courtroom drama need not go on for so long. Things get boring! https://youtu.be/D3mUdwTM_sE?si=lrDxT06IhBHDdiFd The Verdict: The main reason OMG 2 will fail at the box office is because it has clashed with Gadar 2. Gadar 2 is a road-roller action film in Hindi Cinema and if a sex education-based courtroom drama clashes with it, then that dull and mediocre courtroom drama is bound to get demolished by the immense wrath of the legendary Tara Singh! Jokes apart, this is a big mistake that the filmmakers of OMG 2 have made. They could have released OMG 2 when the craze of Gadar 2 would have been over. Read the full article

Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga Movie Review (2023)
Sunny Kaushal and Yami Gautam's starrer movie 'Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga' has been released on Netflix. Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga is the story of Ankit and Neha. Businessman Ankit Sethi flies from here to there like a rich man, and Neha is there on almost every flight. Ankit starts flirting with Neha, and the two eventually fall in love with each other after bumping into each other.
Despite having a solid central idea of the story of Chance Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga, its writing is weak. If we talk about the direction of Ajay Singh, then he has tried to connect the audience with his story and direction. Although loopholes are also seen in some places in the movie, if we ignore them, then you can watch this movie once.
The movie's casting is excellent; the pair of Sunny Kaushal and Yami left no stone unturned to rock. The story has been woven around Sunny and Yami, so no scope is left for anyone else. Sharad Kelkar won everyone's hearts with his character, and he looks pretty impressive in the movie.
Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga is a new-age cinema with a power-packed mix of romance, thrill, action, and suspense. There was scope in the movie for romantic songs and music with the romance between Yami and Sunny, but the director could not capitalize on it. The cinematography in the movie is remarkable. Most of the movie was shot inside the plane, so there isn't much to see on the location.

'Article 370' starring Yami Gautam and Priya Mani in the lead roles was released in theaters on 23 February. Is the movie worth watching?
'Article 370' was released in theaters today on 23rd February…It stars Yami Gautam and Priya Mani in the lead roles. Read the reviews before you decide to watch… Thin Film. Addressing an event, PM Narendra Modi said, "I don't know what the film is about, but yesterday I heard on TV that a film is coming on 'Article 370'. It is good, it is about giving correct information to the people. "Will be useful." Rally in Jammu earlier this week. If after listening to them, you planned to pack your notebook and pen to take notes while watching this movie starring Yami Gautam, you will be disappointed. As the film begins, the makers claim that the film is 'inspired by', and is not a 'documentary', with creative liberties taken while describing the series of events.
Directed by Aditya Suhas Jambhale, 'Article 370' is a well-made film, but with a run-time of 2 hours and 40 minutes it will test your patience. The filmmaker could have easily cut the first half which was wasted on setting up the premise. Crawling slower than a tortoise, the film wakes up only in the latter half and races like a rabbit towards the finish line with fast-paced drama but predictable twists.
Credit given where due, the makers did hold themselves from doing the obvious - bashing Pakistan or the Muslims - which most films have been doing recently. Also, there are no cliche dialogues or overtly desh bhakti songs to prove one's patriotism. The film is high on production value, which producer Aditya Dhar had earlier also managed in ‘Uri’ (2019). Even though not jingoistic, 'Article 370' is tuned to the propaganda value as it tries to put the BJP government in the spotlight, ahead of the general elections.
Arun Govil and Kiran Karmarkar in shoddy avatars of PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah respectively, seem to be the only ministers with a heart in the film. Jawaharlal Nehru too hasn't been spared as the Ajay Devgn-narrated introduction tries to blame the first prime minister for the 'blunder' in Kashmir.
