here's my top ten recommendations, a lot of them are quite old because of my dad (i'll star my dad's favourites). also i think a lot of the classics go unnoticed sometimes outside of japan:

前川清の 「長崎は今日も雨だった」 — "nagasaki wa kyō mo ame datta" by maekawa kiyoshi. (it was raining again in nagasaki today)*

山崎ハコの 「さすらい」 — "sasurai" by yamasaki hako. (wandering)

BEGINの 「島人ぬ宝」 — "shimanchu nu takara" by BEGIN. (the islander's treasure, this is an okinawan song and i highly recommend it)*

オモイノタケの 「産声」 — "ubugoe" by omoinotake. (first cry, this is from a tv show)

石野真子の 「私のしあわせ」 — "watashi no shiawase" by ishino mako. (my happiness)*

坂本九の 「上を向いて歩こう」 — "ue o muite arukō" by sakamoto kyū. (i look up as i walk, in english i think this is sometimes known as 'sukiyaki', it's about looking up so that his tears won't fall)

坂本九の 「見上げてごらん夜の星を」 — "miagete goran yoru no hoshi o" also by sakamoto kyū. (look up at the stars in the night)*

松原みきの 「真夜中のドア〜Stay with Me」 — "mayonaka no doa / stay with me" by matsubara miki. (midnight's door / stay with me, honestly how could this absolutely banger not be on the list)*

菅田将暉の 「まちがいさがし」 — "machigai sagashi" by suda masaki. (spot the difference)

こっこ�� 「走る体」 — "hashiru karada" by cocco. (running body)

obligatory: sakamoto kyū's "ue o muite arukō" was the only japanese song to ever reach number one in the U.S, it stayed in number one for three weeks. his music isn't necessarily for everyone, he's a "crooner" but he wrote some really beautiful songs that i think everyone would like.

there's some modern enka in the list as well which is kind of "traditional". some kayōkyoku (the base of j-pop), "city pop" (シティ・ポップ). a bit of everything.

if you like city pop specifically then i'd say check out takeuchi mariya (plastic love is a good place to start and is one of my dad's favourites), matsubara miki (there's one in the list), and ohashi junko (telephone number), those are their most popular songs in the west and you can work your way down. there are so many more but they're the ones you'll probably know already.

in other news a bunch of episodes of sokosaku have been subbed! sokosaku is sakurazakas variety show, it comes out every week ofc but the people who do the english subtitles are like ten episodes behind, but like five episodes were subbed this week so maybe theyll catch up soon!

sorry for not writing for so long, somethings up idk. ive been really bad to like messaging/talking to people recently :/ i feel so bad cause i havent really messages my partners recently. ugh i hate this.

yesterday it was my grannys birthday. shes dead. i dont know if i miss her, but i miss getting to go to her house. she lived in the middle of nowhere in a tiny town, we would go for like a week or two every summer and just kinda play. it was so small everyone knew everyone else. there was a little lake that we would play in, sometimes me and my sister wold go fishing with one of grannys friends.

i miss having a house. like a proper house with stairs and a yard and shit. every time we go to like residential areas i get so sad. i miss living with my sister. she came over today, i stayed in my room the whole time. i miss her.
