hey guys! after... a few months (lol) i am finally back with the finished piece of my gyaru fit check! i kinda kept it one theme per outfit. first one is more modern gyaru (im not super familiar with the name of each subfashion,,,,), second one is more school gyaru, and third one is beach gyaru!! i feel like beatriz (my oc's name hehe) would be more in the mamba/yamamba style with her makeup choices? im not super sure tbh since i am not an expert on gyaru, but i love it deeply!! its such a fun and beautiful subculture and fashion style.
anyway any gyarus out there please feel free to let me know how i did!! i mixed and matched a few refernce pictures but i hope i did it justice!!!

I feel like tiktok discourse on jfashion (or any alt style) is rooted in "conforming to the standard of the style/subculture" so often that they forget that alternative fashion is meant to be different.
Of course since these things originated from Japan, we should look towards their stance on these things more often, but I feel like there is such an extremist mindset when it comes to following rules of different styles/subcultures. For example, doing yamamba/ganguro makeup (or anything with a white undereye droop) apparently makes you "peak gyaru" on tiktok, but any other makeup style from diff substyles or the 2000s immediately sends the poser accusations your way.
Yet I see no one complaining when Japanese people want to get creative in these spaces...how strange!

Improving in Gyaru: Experimenting (•̃͡ε•̃͡)∫
Hey pumpkins~
Tumblr media
I’ve been busy lately with an anatomy quiz + anatomy project I had to do, but I’ve finally finished them\(*T▽T*)/ Anyways, today’s post will be slightly different from my normal diary type logs. I want to speak about about expirementing for those wanting tips on how to improve their gal style~ Also read to the end for some pictures (⌬̀⌄⌬́)
Tumblr media
Expirementing is a big part of gal but what is it? I would refer to it as trying different styles, whether it be with clothes, jewelry, or makeup. The reason why this is important is because you pick up more skills that’ll help you do a variety of looks. Eventually, this can help you create make that can be skillfully applied to fit your features and make co*des that look gyaru. Also, trying different styles will allow you to determine how you like to do your makeup/co*des, and you might even be able to develop your own distinct style!
Example: Dededoo Cyber Gal
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here’s one pretty famous example, the cyber gal we all love Dededoo! As you can see she started gyaru in 2019, it was noticeable gal (tanned skin dyed hair) but it pretty toned down. It’s the sort of gyaru that you can wear that can still be acceptable with current beauty trends.
As we go further into 2019, she begins expirementing with more extreme styling and tanning but her eye make is still thin and clean, the sort of gal style you see nowadays that’s popular with gyaru nowadays especially in Reiwa. It’s bold enough to be a distinct gal look and she begins to expirement with “cyber gal”.
I would say the last picture is the look she has curated after 2 years (that we can at least see) and it is a look that is very distinct and unique to her. Even when other people try her look, it’s quite obvious it inspired by Dededoo. However the point is that it took lots of time and patience (and money too (˃̴̀ᄇॢ˂̴́ ∗) ) to be able to achieve that level of gal.
This is not to say that y’all should give up if you aren’t that good yet, but that you should be patient and diligent in trying to improve your look, just like Dededoo. It takes time to become good at gyaru, even more so if you haven’t done any jfashion styles before.
Tumblr media
Now you don’t have to go full throttle into more extreme styles like ganguro or yamamba but trying it out and getting the technique down definitely helps!! And who knows, what you try out might even be something you end up liking 💕 Well that’s all for now. Thanks for reading❣️
