Today, Tot posted a tweet about Wakfu on X. He shares his vision for the series and talks about the upcoming webtoon.

Hello everyone,

First of all, thank you very much for your support. The last episodes of Wakfu Season 4 are now available on Okoo, and I thank you for watching them in such large numbers. Our partner is very pleased with the results, which allows us to consider the future with peace of mind. Your feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and we are delighted about it. For us, it's the most beautiful reward.

However, some of you have expressed disappointment, particularly regarding the narrative arc of Flopin and his grandfather, Madagaskane. You also want to know more about what happened to the gods.

Allow me to explain the follow-up about that and our narrative intentions.

Firstly, as you know, the Krosmoz universe is constantly evolving. Nothing is ever completely over. Each of our creations always offers you an adventure that concludes but leaves other questions unanswered.

This is somewhat our trademark and is closely linked to the number of media we are dealing with simultaneously. Let's take, for example, the Dofus movie. Joris' story ends, and the entire adventure unfolds from our hero's point of view. Who trapped Julith? This information isn't provided, as we've kept it for potential follow-ups and connections with other projects. It was a "key" piece of information, but it didn't prevent you from focusing on the journey of our little hero.

For Wakfu, we operate in the same way. During writing, I choose one hero's perspective, and it's their storyline that I will favour. I don't want to neglect the others (because I love them just as much), and some narrative arcs may be started and then picked up in other media. I understand this may be frustrating when you prefer one character over another and feel they're not sufficiently highlighted. During this season, I clearly favoured the Eliatropes and their family dynamic.

We can never know if what we offer in animation will have a sequel. I've already explained the reasons why. Consequently, narrative choices have to be made. Some might say, "In that case, don't start anything new". Honestly, that would be really sad, and the whole thing would have less scope.

You have to imagine the Krosmoz as a living, gestating organism. Just because you don't have all your answers now doesn't mean they won't arrive soon or very soon.

In concrete terms, the webtoon/manga "The Great Wave" will allow you to reunite with Yugo and Amalia a few months after the end of Season 4.

Flopin and Madagaskane have a story in development. We've opened a door for these two characters with the idea of ​​creating a beautiful series focusing on the relationship between a grandfather and his grandson. We didn't "forget" them; on the contrary, we'll give them a lot of space.

The story of the Goddess, Rasha, and the gods is at the heart of Waven [t/n talking about the MMORG]. You'll learn more about them through the game. It's a topic we'll also address in a potential animated sequel. In fact, it's a storyline we've been working on for years and is one of the most important ones to come.

Regarding the Mechasms, however, there are no plans for them, for reasons I may explain in detail one day. This doesn't mean we won't see them again, but I'd like them to remain completely mysterious, with their intentions unfathomable.

I understand this may be frustrating for some because these projects take time to develop. But if you take a step back, you'll understand that it also allows us to position ourselves in the long term.

The dragon HAS to be Draconiros.

‼️ SPOILERS FOR THE GREAT WAVE ‼️

So a while ago, back when chapter 1 recently came out, a French YouTuber by the name of Zaki theorized that the dragon in Yugo’s nightmare might have been Draconiros.

For those who don’t know or don’t remember the dragon he was referencing, here is a short recap:

Draconiros is the dragon of dreams.

His job is to govern the dreams and nightmares of the Twelvians. People suspect he might have taken the form of Grougalorasalar while talking to Yugo.

Despite never meeting Yugo, he could have watched over the Twelvians through their dreams. This means that he might have seen Oropo's dreams, as well as Yugo's own, giving him insight into Yugo's future actions and indirectly caused consequences. If true, this theory would explain why he holds a grudge against Yugo. It currently stands as the most compelling theory among all others.

But why am I mentioning him all of a sudden?

Because the next chapter, which is chapter 4, will come out today late at night and the cover for the chapter shows an individual we have never seen before.

No matter how much we try to distinguish who is the person underneath the hood, there’s no one we know that fits the exact figure the cover is showing. But when we take a look at the Draconiros theory, we can see so many physical similarities to Draconiros’ form.

For a better idea of what I’m talking about, here’s Draconiros’ dragon form and human form placed side by side.

And here is Draconiros in the Dofus game with the only things different about him are his clothes having different colors and patterns.

The image depicted on the cover of chapter 4 appears to be a humanoid figure. In order to gain a better understanding of Draconiros, let's focus our attention on his human form.

Upon examining the cover, it becomes apparent that the shadowed figure depicted is male, although some details remain undisclosed. We can also assume that he’s quite tall given how solid he seems. A closer look reveals that the man possesses a sturdy jaw and a broad neck. Upon comparison with Draconiros' physical features, it is evident that the two share a similar bone structure in these areas.

Based on the three main key points - the jaw, neck, and tall stature - I am absolutely confident that these two are the same person. There is no doubt in my mind that everything fits perfectly after noticing these major physical similarities. It's only makes me fully believe that Zaki was right.

But again, the reasons why I’m even bringing this all up are because 1) Chapter 4 is approaching and this figure will obviously make an entrance soon, and 2) I’m still so very confused about why Draconiros did not reveal his dragon form to Yugo.

If this is actually Draconiros, then why would he purposely show Grougalorasalar’s dragon form and not his?

No matter how good the Draconiros theory is, it doesn’t change the fact that Draconiros chose one of the primordial dragons’ forms instead of simply taking his.

Remember, he’s the dragon of dreams, he can invade a person’s mind and make up anything he wants including changing his appearance.

But why change his appearance in front of someone he loathes?

He had no problem telling Yugo TO HIS FACE that he absolutely despises him and will hunt him down. If he’s so bold with his words, why not just show himself completely to him? Because he assumed the form of Grougalorasalar, the attention was diverted from him whether this was a deliberate act or not.

I can't understand why he chose to conceal his true identity by taking the form of a dragon from the primordial era. I'm also curious why he picked Grougalorasalar, out of all the dragons available.

So because the theory has one decision that stands out as strange, the one being Draconiros choosing to take Grougalorasalar’s form instead of just using his own, it makes it difficult for me to fully accept it.

It just seems so unnecessary for him to use another dragon’s appearance for this. But then again, the only dragon, or any divinity really, capable of entering someone’s dreams like that is Draconiros.

Why I like them/why I don’t: god i like yuya So Much. him and jaden my fav protags as of rn. I love his deck to bits I love the dueltaining thing i love that he's kind of absolutely pathetic and not even good at dueling 🥴 his emotional projection is off the charts he's an unstable little funnyman he's like if a clown was also an atomic bomb. he's SO expressive and shit just keeps HAPPENING to him and i want to observe him under my big magnifying glass. he's such a fucked up kid and didnt DESERVE LIKE. What I like about their appearance: it's just such a good character design to me...the red/green color palette is delightful and his tomato hair is so cute. arc-v character design is my favorite serieswise i think

I went to the Arc V cafe

Hi guys. I recently went to Japan and while I was there, I went to the Arc V 10th anniversary collaboration at Cafe BLANC in Ikebukuro. It was a highly surreal experience and I haven't seen anyone else post about it on here so I figured I would share.

I signed up for a lottery reservation through the website, but it seemed like there were a lot of spots available even though it was a weekend. I lined up 10 minutes before my reservation time, showed them my ticket, and got seated. The process goes like: you order your food, then you can go up and pick out merch, then you pay for everything at the end. It's pretty simple, but not necessarily intuitive if you've never been to one of these before. You can miss your chance to buy merch if you don't realize you have to do it before paying for your food.

There were a bunch of framed posters of the characters on the walls. They seated me in front of my nemesis, Sylvio. There were a couple of TV screens with montages of the art playing as well, but there were signs saying not to photograph the screens specifically, so I didn't. The only other real decorations were these action cards plastered so sparingly around the cafe that I didn't notice them at first. You can sort of see one in the picture of the Sora poster. They were playing the music for the Arc V openings.

I ordered the Yuzu (Zuzu) crepes and the Declan drink I don't remember the name of, which was scalding hot. I think I like wasn't expecting it to be hot because it was in a glass so I drank it through my straw and burned my tongue badly. Thanks Declan.

When you order, you get a drink coaster and a little mini print (photo print? bromide?), which are both random. I got a print of Yugo and a coaster of the Yuboys. You also get a somewhat larger print of your choosing if you spend at least ¥5,000.

After I got my food I went up to shop. There were these foam standees up by the front that you could take pictures with.

They had a display case by the cash register of all the character goods that were available. The prices aren't bad, but everything is in a blind bag except for the large standees. I got one of everything except the small standees and pulled Yuri twice which is a W for me. I also got the Yuri large standee.

Overall experience: Quite frankly the food was terrible, which shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone with a passing familiarity with themed cafes. The ambiance was also nothing terribly special. It's not like there were a ton of decorations or theming. Would I go to one of these again? I don't know. Maybe. Honestly probably. The novelty of being in a physical space dedicated to my favorite Yugioh spinoff and eating character-themed food is undeniably alluring. Even if the food is awful.

The cafe is running until May 12th, so if anyone else happens to be going to Tokyo over the next month and a half or so, I would be happy to share tips on making a reservation, what to do when you're there, etc. In exchange I only ask that you trade me or let me buy any Yuri merch you pull off of you. (Only half joking. Please bring him home I miss him.)

YUGO MY SWEET BOY YUGO

For anyone who hasn't been around a long time, Yugo used to be my Number One brainrot boy. I still love him dearly and get all giddy and squeaky over him, the fixation is just not turned up to the max anymore.

Why I like them/why I don’t I just love how.... easygoing he is? He takes being flown across dimensions by himself like he took a wrong turn somewhere. He's a smart boi who built a D-Wheel from scratch with his best friend as a pre-teen. He's introduced by crashing into a street lamp after another dimension jump and just Keeps Showing Up here and there, never knowing what's going on but always ready to throw hands or make friends. It's so funny. He's wears his heart on his sleeve and cries like he has nothing to be ashamed of. Yugo's just a joy to watch.

And despite being usually relegated to comedic relief, he's actually one of the strongest duelists in the show. Second ever time we see him he OTK's three Obelisk Force soldiers at once. And that contrast is v appealing to me.

What I like about their appearance His eyes.

Yugo has Such pretty eyes. Anyone who's read my Yugo-centric fanfiction knows I cannot keep myself from mentioning them. I love that his main colour is white! You don't see that very often for characters of his type. And his blue bang is v appealing, and I love taking snapshots when it moves. He's so expressive as well!

Also he's cute. You can't tell me he's not.

Do I prefer their dub names or original names? He got to keep his name, thankfully.... Not that he was safe from weird spellings regardless who's Hugo. don't know him

OTP Dimensionshipping! I think it's very fun, and great to build AU's around. Inside it I like all yuboy pairs with Yugo except for Pawn, which I'm lukewarm on. It's just not my thing.

NOTP Don't have one. If a fic for a Yugo ship I haven't thought of or isn't invested in seems well-written and appealing to me, then I'll read it.

Favourite card they use Clear Wing Synchro Dragon. One of my favourite yugioh dragons ever. I adore the crystalline wings, the long tail in place of legs, and the colour scheme is so appealing. It's also so pretty in the anime.

Favourite moment they were in I can't choose help-

Okay so, I do have one I can highlight, that I don't think many would pick. But it's all of episode 54, which shows what happened to Yuzu and Yugo after they were teleported away at the Maiami championship. I think this episode is a good showcase of the Full Yugo Personality Package. All that's missing is a scene where he cries.

We see him being concerned but not very thoughtful, hotheaded when he gets seriously annoyed over Yuzu getting his name wrong. He's willing to talk and answer any questions Yuzu has if he can, and even takes mistaking Yuto for Yuri rather easily. He's a bit too eager when he gets an idea in his head, and when Yuzu breaks down in tears, he's quickly apologetic for being pushy. Doesn't tell her to stop crying, just gives her a handkerchief to wipe her tears, aplogizes and that it was his fault, and just... talks to her.

And he's so gentle?? He tells her about Rin, and it's so obvious that he loves his best friend so much. And Yuzu quickly calms down. He's just a very sweet, caring guy who can get too passionate sometimes. It's big "too good for this world" energy with Yugo, with 'this world' being the synchro dimension. It makes you wonder how bad his interactions with the Resistance in the Xyz dimension must have been for Yugo to be hostile enough to be labelled their enemy and even get a nickname among them, even if it's from people misunderstanding his name.

But then when the situation turns bad and they're discovered by Tops in an area they're not allowed in, he's immediately locked in and focused on Getting The Hell Out Of There with Yuzu. He knows when to get serious, and he doesn't mess around when it comes to the law enforcment of his world.

Least favourite moment Don't think I will ever forgive Arc V for destroying Yugo and Rin's D-Wheel. And for having Rin be the cause of it.

We Are Family, Chapter 9: Group Project

The quadruplets and their new friends hurried into their class, ready to start a day of learning. Or at least to try to learn, in Yuya and Yugo’s case. Neither of them liked going to school, at least not academic school, and they both got very bored very easily.

But to their surprise, the teacher gave an assignment that piqued their interest. “Alright, class, today you’re going to be doing a group project,” he said. “You’ll be in groups of four, and you can choose your partners.”

Yuto, Yuri, Yugo, and Yuya’s quadruplet telepathy hivemind immediately kicked in, and they all knew that the four of them would be in their group together. The project was a Social Studies project about an important historical battle, and the four boys immediately knew what project they wanted to do together.

“You can now quietly pick your partners and discuss ideas for your projects,” the teacher said. A couple of students turned to ask the quadruplets if any of them wanted to partner up with them, but the four brothers immediately turned to look at each other and said in unison, “Reenactment!”

The students who had wanted to ask the quadruplets to be their partners realized that they had already picked each other. Disappointment set in, but they watched the Sakakis in intrigued silence, realizing from their unison decision that they might actually have quadruplet telepathy after all.

“Ok, Yuya, you’re our resident performer,” Yuri said. “You help us rehearse and practice, and come up with the storyline. Yuto, you’re the best at writing, you write the script. Yugo, you’re good at making things out of wood and metal, you make the weapons. And I’ll make the costumes.”

“Sounds good to me,” Yuto said. Yuya and Yugo both nodded in agreement. They pushed their desks together and huddled close, talking quietly together.

The teacher was surprised by how quickly the Sakaki boys had come to an agreement. After all, just the other day they were fighting over who got to sit next to Yuya! But then again, they definitely knew each other better than anyone else did. It did make sense for them to know each other’s strengths and weaknesses, and apply them to a project together. Perhaps their project would be better than any project they could do with other people.

1)  Favourite Yu-Gi-Oh! series

This is like asking me which out of my six children should survive while the other five die XD. I love all the series since they all have both pros and cons, and they all have interesting characters and stories, but I guess ARC V will always have a special place in my heart since it got me back in Yugioh fandom (I stopped after 5Ds for a while several years ago). VRAINS is currently my favourite series plotwise since it continues to surprise me and keeps me hyped every single week.

5)  Favourite opening/ending

For the opening, it’s a tie between second and fifth ARC V opening. “Burn” has an incredibly upbeat melody that makes me smile every time I listen to it. “Light of Hope” on the other hand tells a story of how there is despair but smiles will be there to make it go away. I’m rather torn between choosing either of them since they are both really nice endings. As for ending - “Close to You”, 4th ending from 5Ds. I first started watching 5Ds in English dub but once I caught up with it, I was too curious what is going to happen next so I started watching Japanese dub from that point on and that was probably the smartest decision ever. I got to see “Close to You” not only as the first Yugioh Japanese ending but the very first anime ending ever. I loved every single moment of it, of all the characters just chilling around the city, then meeting up, watching the sunrise and then riding D-Wheels with their dragons! It is an ending that is beyond perfect and really emphasises the bonds and friendship between all Signers. 

6)  Favourite character

If you had asked me this question before Takeru showed up, I would’ve probably blurted out the names of several characters and say how I love them all, but Takeru is a special case. You see, he is a character that I loved before he even officially appeared XD. I’m following the news, cast lists and summaries, so when Takeru showed up for the first time in an anime magazine (like a month before his official anime appearance), I fell in love with everything about him. Both his human self and avatar had all the right colours and designs that fit his personality well, his backstory was intriguing, I was already looking forward to seeing another Lost Child and out of all possible voices, he got to be voiced by one and only Kaji Yuuki (who is among my Top 3 anime voice actors!). Then he showed up in the new opening and ending and him being friendly and cosy with Yusaku was just plain adorable! I had no idea what his role was going to be but from that point it was clear - Yusaku is getting a new friend! And was his entrance perfect - lightning, fire tornado and then him! 10/10 Burner of Souls! Not only was he righteously hyped up, but he also continues to be amazing and I have a feeling his character will get even more development!    

10)  Favourite Duel Monster

It’s hard to pick a single monster, but I love every single card in Johan’s deck aka. Crystal/Gem Beast archetype. The designs are simple but so well executed and out of all of them, it’s hard to pick just one. I love their story, the legend and just the fact how much they all care about Johan, trying to reach out to him when Yubel possessed him. A big plus is also the fact how much personality they all have and they are always there to help up Johan.

17)  Have you ever cried over YGO and why?

You should’ve rather ask me when I didn’t lol. But yeah in every spinoff there was a moment that I actually cried. In original series there were two moments, when Yugi duelled Atem in the fourth season, letting him defeat him and then fading away in his arms and the Ceremonial duel when Yugi stumbled on his knees and cried, I cried with him cuz I also didn’t want Atem to go. Then in GX, it was basically whenever Judai would show vulnerability, cuz really, I hated his guts and his goofy overpowered persona. But then when he lost Johan, when he was afraid of Yubel, when he succumbed to the power of Supreme King and the entire season 4 when he was battling with depression - to see someone so cheerful becoming a mere shell of himself was so darn sad. 5Ds started darker but nothing could prepare me for two scenes, Yusei nearly dying, being afraid to duel and then watching his friend die in his arms and then losing another friend for real (Bruno! :’( ). Zexal made me cry a weird mixture of happy and sad tears whenever Yuma and Astral did something. When Astral sacrificed himself for Yuma I don’t know when I cried more - when Yuma watched Astral die or Yuma suffering from major depression for the next few episodes. But that scene when he got reunited with Astral was that more powerful because of it and their relationship is truly the purest of them all. ARC V, spinoff all about smiles was probably one of the saddest series, not just because of many sad moments throughout the whole thing aka. Yuto dying in Yuya’s arms for real, Yugo losing Rin, Yuya losing Yuzu, the fate of other Bracelet Girls and Yu-Boys and the overall ending, but also how inconclusive the ending felt. I kinda get the point was to show the realism of war, how not everyone can get a happy ending but it could still be executed better. Then there’s VRAINS…. *sighs* where do I even start with this….

VRAINS truly took the plotline seriously and doesn’t seem like it’s going to back down. It is like the writing staff put together a medley of the saddest moments in Yu-Gi-Oh! and were like, “Let’s make it sadder!”. From the fact that mere six-year-old children were tortured so badly, that Ryoken was so messed up by his father, that all Lost Children are still suffering in one way or another, that SOL practically killed a living being and all the drama that it’s going on between Yusaku and Kusanagi right now. Last week’s episode had me nearly tear up and for tomorrow I will most definitely cry. It’s just so painful to see someone so desperate to save their own family, to attack someone they were all set to protect just a few episodes ago… And VRAINS isn’t even over yet. I thought nothing could top Earth’s death scene, but from the looks of it, tomorrow will be getting a dose of the most painful feels.

19)  Least favourite series

It’s a tie between GX and the first series if I had to choose one. GX has a rather monotone first half when there is some stuff going on, but it’s really episodic and easily forgotten. While there were some interesting episodes, the rest was just one giant filler that tried to deliver too much nostalgia from the first series instead of developing on its own. And speaking of the first series - I know the card game wasn’t as developed at the time so tons of duels made absolutely no sense. Then it was only Yugi, Kaiba and Joey having the development and extremely long duels that were starting to feel off and annoying to watch. But overall - I know that was the very first series and the spinoff, so it was obvious it wouldn’t be perfect. What I truly love about Yu-Gi-Oh! is that it’s a franchise that continues to grow with every single spin-off, even if they’re becoming less relevant they are still getting stronger storywise.

22)  Least favourite character

This little brat is a perfect representation of how to create the most annoying character. Everything about him screams “annoying, useless and awful”. It would be completely fine if he was an episodic villain, but noooo for some reason writing staff was like, “hey let’s make this dude into Yuma’s friend”. I get it, Yuma can make friends easily, but for the love of God, why him?! Yuma has enough friends already, why bring this brat into his group? Tokunosuke has literally no purpose to be here but to cause trouble or be a plot device to bring Yuma trouble. Okay, I was fine with that one time that he got Yuma into trouble and Yuma still forgave him, but why the hell did they have a need to repeat that three more times? I feel the same way about Kotori - she has no basic purpose but to be moral support or act as a damsel in distress.ZEXAL had way too many characters and out of them all, they picked the most useless ones for major roles.

Canon datastormshipping. I think I made it clear why I dislike it in two posts already, but I guess I could sum it up for the third time. In canon verse they are two unstable people who bring out the worst of each other. They rarely interact, their ideologies are vastly different and they are in a way obsessed with each other in a very unhealthy way. If the two of them dated it would most likely result in a very toxic relationship which would only worsen up their already broken mental states. Again, I greatly dislike this ship in canon verse (in anime up to episode 92) and my opinion could change by the end of VRAINS. I still like the fanfics and fanarts that depict “what if” scenarios where their relationship could work (I’m actually writing one at the moment and I have plans to write one where I focus on their relationship in detail), but canon shipping just feels off and dysfunctional.

34)  If you met Kazuki Takahashi, what would you say to him?

First of all, I would thank him for coming up with those amazing characters and plotlines. I still love the original manga and season 0 the most since it had so much creativity with different games, but I can see it keep getting included more with new summoning methods and unique stories. Then I would most likely present him my idea for the 7th series and its protagonist. From the start of the series, there wasn’t much about card game production or who designs them. We got some info on how Pegasus discovered Millenium Items and the tablet with Egyptian Gods and in GX it showed Hayato working as a card game designer. I would love to see a protagonist who loves games just like Yugi and wishes to create more, so he strives to become the best card game designer. He is not that keen on playing the game since he prefers to make the cards more, but when he creates a particular card(kinda like how Takato created Guilmon in Digimon Tamers) he is pulled into an adventure where he must find other cards that contain powerful Duel Monsters spirits and he has to lock them back into their cards. I would also love to have a protagonist that can talk with spirits again since while Judai had adorable interactions with Winged Kuriboh and Neo Spacians, it was still largely brushed aside and not that much explored. So yeah please make the next protagonist into a card game designer, it will be unique and open to so many interesting plotlines and potentials.

I’m so excited for the Judai figure to be released in five...or six months...that I have decided to list the other YGO figures I would sell an organ for!

So first, I have to say Johan/Jesse. If we could get him with Ruby on his shoulders, or with seven gems floating around him. Or both.

Then, as much as I love Zexal...I gotta have some Arc-V figures. I’m not holding out hope for anything fancy. The Arc-V characters aren’t known for parading around in fancy clothing. We’ll probably get the characters in their typical clothes. 

So my first pick for a figure would be Serena, quickly followed by my trash baby, Yuri. The likelihood of getting figures of ANYONE besides Yuya is, I know, slim to none, never mind getting a figure for a female character. If they did release a Yuya figure I would probably get it, but if they release a Yuzu figure, well, sorry Yuya but I’m going to get her first. 

If they did Serena, Yuri, Yuzu and Yuya, I would hold out hope we’d get figures of the other four as well. If I could I would LOVE to collect all eight of them. But if I had to rank the order in which I want them, I would pick Ruri first. We see her like, the least in the series but if we got a high quality figure of her, my GOD her hair would be amazing!! Then I would say Rin would follow, and sorry Yuto & Yugo, but you tie for last. That doesn’t mean I want them any less!! But again, money is a thing so if I gotta choose, that’s the order I choose.

And if I could have Zexal figures, Of course I would love a Yuma and Astral figure. I mean a pair. On the same base. Maybe back to back as they shout “IT’S TIME TO FORM ZEXAL” or something. Or Yuma looking at his cards and Astral hovering behind them. Two separate figures is okay, thought. And I would love to have figures of Ryoga and Rio!!! They would be super cute. I could see Yuma’s figure wearing his street clothes rather than his uniform, same for Ryoga and Rio. We all know what Astral would wear.

If we could get a Vector figure I would love it, I’d display him with Yuri and my trash babies could be together. I would like to have him in his leather jacket, but I would take the uniform he wears as Rei, too. I’m not sure if I’d buy a Barian-state figure. Barian form kind of freaks me out. 

I also really want an Aki figure. Not sure if I would buy a Yusei figure. I love him but again, we don’t exactly get fancy YGO characters and I don’t love Yusei enough to splurge for a figure of him in his street clothes. Aki in her normal every day clothes though, I mean she’s still a work of art. 

AND VRAINS!!! ....Sorry Yusaku, I’m just here for Blue Angel/Aoi. Even if we just get Aoi in her real-world state I’d buy that, she is an angel no matter what reality she’s in.

fanfic update! (help me choose my next project)

SOaccording to my very scientific calculations...since my backlog for Where Demons Go To Die is completely finished, it will definitely conclude early March. I will be writing several extra mini stories/chapters set in the same AU surrounding the back stories and after stories of several characters, but those likely won’t begin posting until late March/early April. In the meantime, Demons’ conclusion will result in me having four open posting slots again, and I kinda like having a nice filled in update schedule.  Which means this is about the time I want to start thinking about what should start posting in at least one of the newly opened slots, so that I have time to plot, outline, and start up a backlog. I’m highly indecisive, however, and have too many ideas...so i’ve narrowed it down to 4 options, and thought maybe my readers might be interested in having a say in what they’d like to see from me next. so here is a poll for which multichapter i should start writing next

Whatever is chosen will not start posting until late March (I will likely put a brief week’s pause on all posting, even backlogged works, for about a week after Demons concludes), so whatever you choose you won’t see for a while, but I appreciate the help in deciding the next project I work on <3

Ruri remembers little, but all evidence points to her having been murdered.  She and Rin work together to solve the mystery of her own death, while learning more about each other and themselves in the process.

to fall in love with unicorns: the last unicorn AU.  After losing his father, sister, and the unicorn she fell in love with, Reiji is left alone and picking up the pieces of the kingdom he never expected to rule. HIs whole world changes when he finds the half-unicorn foundling Reira in the woods, and adopts him as his little brother. Reira straddles the line between the mundane and magic, and as it becomes clear that the world is evolving faster than expected after the return of the unicorns, Reiji and Reira will need to trust and rely on each other in order to bring the magic back into balance.

Jewelry Swap [not the final title].  AU. Yuya owns a very strange bracelet, and Yuzu a magical pendulum.  When Yuya disappears and appears to have been kidnapped during a tournament, swept away to another dimension, Yuzu has to join the Lancers and journey to save him.

Ice Queen Rin [not the final title].  Rin and Yugo were at the forefront of the rebellion that took down the cruel emperor, and no one objected when Rin declared herself ruler in his place.  Years have passed, however, and Rin has grown strange, cold, and cruel.  Yugo believes in her, no matter what--but can he stay by her side even through her darkest moments?

soundtracks for visual media are always important to me because i’m a longtime musician myself, and while arc v isn’t my favorite yugioh ost it still has a lot of gems and tracks that i’ve bookmarked and listen to regularly.

for anyone that hasn’t listened to the soundtrack i’ll tell you that it greatly enhances the arc v experience because the show is lazy in its musical execution and draws from very little of the soundtrack Nakagawa scored for the series. don’t let his work go to waste! it provides great entertainment.

all of the following are from the Japanese OST composed by Kotaro Nakagawa. for links to the audio click the numerals/titles!

also i’m not including any of the op/ends (because all of them are gorgeous within their own right and have their own rankings).

i’ll include sound duel 4 tracks using their unofficial titles because a certain multinational corporation hasn’t released it yet 👀 #marvelouslyhackkonami

also i’m including hella honorable mentions that no one asked for because upon re-listening to the soundtrack it turns out i appreciate a lot more tracks than i originally thought.

5. “Sakaki Yuusho - Unreleased OST” (SD4)

listen, i have a lot of feelings and at the same time no feelings for sakaki yusho but i consider him solid husband material after hearing this. the energy from this is uplifting and hopeful af and it’s so refreshing from the otherwise suspenseful, hell-ridden season 4 tracks. the first seconds of this track (and then the reprise at 2:03) are my favorite. the crescendo perfectly captures the spirit, soul, and confidence of entertainment dueling and it’s HAWT. the execution of this track is brilliant, yusho and yuri’s duel was so memorable and exciting to me and it’s also one of my favorite tracks to hear in yuya’s last couple redemption duels which are just a sight to witness on their own.

4. Something to Protect (SD3 - Track 16)

the part that puts this track above many others similar to it is the choral line starting at 1:05. the arc v soundtrack, unlike any of the other yugioh ost’s, does a great job of using choral solos and themes melodically (that seem to be primarily celtic in nature). the voices are always tempered and drawn out, they have amazing melody and resolution, and when those solos hit those upper registers it’s soulful far beyond the extent of the show. the theme that leads into the choral uptake starting at (0:27) captures the sentiment of protecting someone, or preparing for an upcoming battle. the theme is repeated with a great accelerando at 1:40 with added string syncopation in the background that makes the situation more urgent. i can’t remember where in the show this is used but for some reason i feel like it was at a yuto/ruri moment? that just makes it all the more real, dude

3. The Duelist’s Determination (SD3 - Track 12)

*insert good shit meme* THIS TRACK RIGHT HERE! this is some LEGIT FANTASY SHIT™

i was pleasantly surprised when i heard this in the ost, probably because i never remember hearing this at all in the anime? this melody is one of my favorites in the ost, and is one that is unique to this track only. the orchestration of this track is fantastic to me. this is one of the few really full, properly orchestral, compositions that Nakagawa has included in the arc v soundtrack that are beyond the scope of anime and could be included in a fantasy rpg or something. from the solid intro featuring the trombones to a full orchestral climax and then stripped back to trumpets, piano, and strings… then there’s syncopation from the percussion and a key change, it’s just so good. i can only dream of how much more epic this would sound rerecorded with a real orchestra rather than synth.

2. The Light of Hope Doesn’t Arrive (SD2 - Track 20) & “Crimson Soul - Unreleased OST” (SD4) & “Lancers Final Gambit - Unreleased OST” (SD4)

“The Light of Hope Doesn’t Arrive” is my preferred pick of the three because it conveys a different mood than the other two (also it’s actually has an hd release *cough*). this is another one of those few tracks on the ost that Nakagawa went ham on in terms of a full, well-rounded composition, and with a title like “The Light of Hope Doesn’t Arrive,” how could you not? one thing i love about the arc v soundtrack is that it utilizes slower tempos throughout to convey completely different moods. for an intentionally heavy track like this one it just does wonders. the intro to this track makes you think it’s going to be a lot faster than it is, and then it strips back into the marcato strings and then a slow af, really paced and dignified piano… and then a harp that pulls along a lagging melody… bitch?! are you trying to kill me? and then i LOVE the short piano outro. this track is used in the first season for some baby!yuya flashbacks, left out in the later seasons, and brought back during yuya’s therapeutic zarc flashback during his last duel with reiji soooooo whoever controls music placement is definitely playing with my life.

as far as “Crimson Soul” goes, just listen to this thing! why does jack get all the good themes fam… his 5ds theme is stunning as well. this theme plays during yuto’s turn while he duels ruri and serena, YUTO’S FLASHBACKS OF RURI, and of course while jack duels zarc, and probably during a lot of other epic moments as well. this track has such good energy and confidence within the melody and orchestration. it also has strings and a great percussion line AND THEN THERE’S TWO KEY CHANGES the last of which has choral backing- this was written for me. when you listen to this, you can feel yuto’s determination to save ruri and you can feel jack’s determination to defeat zarc and reach yuya and you can feel the RISK that both are taking.

WHEN YOU HEAR THIS THEME SOME DRAMATIC DEFINITELY SCARY SHIT IS GOING ON. the intro of this track never fails to get my heart pounding. and then the string melody with the brass support murders me. it’s hard to hear in this extracted version but there’s also slight choral backing which is the icing on the cake. this track is played when yuto takes his turn vs. ruri and serena and WHEN YUYA KILLS YURI AKSJDHLWAUHLDKSJHLIUEAS ENOUGH SAID

1. Baby Reira’s Laughter Yuto’s Passionate Soul (SD3 - Track 18)

yeah that’s right. you all saw this coming. this shit right here = some good ost shit. this is the track that caused me to look up the arc v soundtrack because to me it’s the most emotionally powerful song on the record. i would go as far as to say this song serves as the bulk of yuto’s characterization on the show by adding to his character a whole world of depth that we as viewers are supposed to feel rather than see or interpret. i think it really does genuinely speak to yuto’s soul, and what a passionate one it is indeed.

i think Nakagawa tried his hardest to put a lot of strife and resistance into all the XYZ-centered themes and this is no exception. this track just has the added vocal that is completely INSANE in terms of triumphant reprises. (some people argue that this theme should be yugo’s because it’s used more often when clear wing is summoned, even in yuya’s last duel with reiji, but i think this was a grave execution error on part of whoever places the music in the episodes because thematically this is clearly supposed to be associated with the xyz themes. in the case of summoning odd eyes wing dragon you could see it as yugo and yuto coming together however.) when used in the show they play around with which version they use (sometimes without one of the choral lines) and i have to say my favorite version, and unfortunately the one we’ll never get, is the choral only version that plays during yuto’s death scene. the use of this version was more emotional than yuto’s death to me and i think it was the best use of an ost throughout arc v, and therefore one of arc v’s most powerful moments overall.

The Gears of Fate Begin To Turn (SD3 - Track 20)

the track that sounds exactly like what the title says. everyone get out your duel disks and kiss your cards because war is upon us. at 2:00 the string ensemble is magnificent, suspenseful, and the chord progression is orgasmic. this song makes me pray for the safety of my bbys.

Take a Step Forward! (SD1 - Track 18)

the first arc v track i liked. some confident, sexy shit. great intro and ending. made me respect band.

The Start of Action Duels (SD1 - Track 7)

listen to the drum line at 0:27 and tell me this isn’t the most hype thing on this soundtrack. the melody at 0:42 is what i consider THE arc v theme, and what a gorgeous, uplifting one it is. i’ve severely neglected SD1 on this list but it actually has more tracks i like than any of the other sound duel volumes. sound duel 1 was also extremely underused in the anime so all of you have to listen to it right now because it’s brilliant.

A Promise With Dad (SD1 - Track 19)

the track that made me believe in yuya. the track that made me believe everything works out okay in the end. promises are worth it. life is blooming. love is real.

A Heart Made of Glass (SD1 - Track 12)

a heart made of glass? whose? *listens to downbeat* oh that’s right, mine. the first track that hinted to yuya’s inner turmoil. another one of the tracks Nakagawa really orchestrated fully. the only track other than “the light of hope doesn’t arrive” that can be called acoustic on this soundtrack. dat piano tho. oboes are lyfe. take away this melody it’s sad.

C’mon Let’s Duel! (SD2 - Track 3)

let’s duel? more like let’s pray to get out of this alive. i believe in male voices again. yugioh doesn’t use choir often but when it does it has great melody.

DDD (SD1 - Track 11)

the theme i don’t have to provide a link to because it’s that iconic. synth choir is okay this one time. the only theme other than the “main” theme that has several rearrangements (SD2 - Track 7 & “Reiji - Unreleased OST” that are also as good so listen to them). what a great theme for reiji and his three dicks.

Cheer Up (SD3 - Track 21)

“where tf was this track in the anime” pt. 2394812. yuya definitely needed a lot of cheering up and this song wasn’t there and should have been. im here for the pure melody that starts at 1:26. the last track on an official arc v sound duel i liked, and therefore the theme for what would have been many fans’ ideal arc v ending.

The Fun and Cheery Entertainment Duel! (SD1 - Track 4)

funkiest track on the arc v ost. 0:15 is life. arc v needs more latin beats. 1:40 is such a nice theme and mood change ill never be tired of it. the only time this soundtrack has used a guitar?
