new entry to Yugioh Stars, second main rival who belongs to the villain faction.

A rival school, Nexus Duel Tech (tentative name), is funded by and is the public front for a organization with the 'noble' goal of remaking the world. Within that group is this young man. Jinpachi Hyoma, Jin for short.

In short, Jin was raised and taught his whole life to be the savior of the new world, and in his eyes that means 'bringing paradise to the true believers as well as create a new world for duel spirits to live in harmony with them." He has quite the ego, which can be backed up with his skills. Being able to see spirits, he forms a connection with Jun easily, and is keen on trying to recruit her to his cause.

He also reallllllllllllly hates Yuji Hoshino.

Haughty, Proud, Smug, he can be described in many ways and they would most likely be true.

He is one of the holders of the "Special cards of the series' type card, which im just stealing and changing from the GX manga to be the PLANET cards, now the PLANET NEXT series of courses. Because lets be real, they have neat card designs. He is the wielder of the Jupiter series, and his deck is themed after centurions, with his Ace monster and its evos, Jupiter, King of Paradise. themed as their ruler.

ygo5dsmonth2023 Day 5 - Signer Dragon Society

"These two dead souls call forth the Lord of the Underworld!! Break down the door of Hades and arise!! Ghost Fusion Summoning!! Underworld Dragon Dragonecro!!"

I simply love the Signer Dragon variants from the manga, especially those that weren't in the anime. Let's be real, this was the only chance for Rudger to ever get any kind of unique dragon. And he isn't even a Signer here (well he's a duel priest but you get my gist)

Dragonecro's effect of leaving the monster it attacks with zero attack and creating a token with the same stats is really neat. It even works if you ram it into an opponent and it gets destroyed. And then you can overrun the other monster with the token anyway in most cases. I really dig that it's a fusion monster too.

"Roll back the tide of the dead and emerge, from the river of grief that flows through the Underworld!! Synchro Summons!! Underworld Flood Dragon Dragocutos!!"

I loved the exchange that followed Rudger summoning his evolved dragon inthe manga.

Rudger: You can't destroy my 4000 atk beater in battle. And thanks to my overpowered spell card it's completely protected from card effects!

Yusei: Grrr...

Rudger: And then on my next turn it will give you massive burn damage too! Looks like you lose!

Yusei: Well then I'll exploit Stardust's effect and one of my extremely specific equip cards to give Stardust 10000 attack!

Rudger: 10000 attack?! How...Why...

Yusei: Fuck you ! That's why! (not really they were actually rather respectful towards each other)

For some reason I started thinking about a Yugioh Duel Monsters remake while I was taking a shower. I see a lot of people wishing for one, and i think i kinda want one too, but i was thinking of what i heard about other modern remakes of older anime and thought of a bunch of possibilities:

The unrealistically best one: They spend the first season adapting faithfully the early manga, maybe with 2 chapters per episode, taking their time to set a good tone; maybe they get to Death T on it, maybe it is left for the second season. It looks visually a lot like DSOD and has beautiful animation, and it becomes a favorite of the anime season, bringing a lot of new merch and making the YGO manga finally be rereleased here in Brazil please i wanna buy it

A possibly more realistic option: The first season adapts a good number of chapters from the early manga, but not a lot, skipping some of the less important ones but not censoring content like the Toei anime; most of the changes are in the duels, since they change some stuff to be more faithful to the modern TCG. They manage to adapt Death T but not the Monster RPG, which is left for the next season. It has nice animation, but it is a bit stiff sometimes

The Hakyu Hoshin Engi/Cestvs the Roman Fighter approach: They aren't sure if this show will do very well, so they decide to adapt as much as they can in one season. Somehow they adapt the early manga stuff in 5/6 episodes, Death T in 2 episodes, Monster RPG in 1 and 1/2 and all of Duelist Kingdom stuff in the rest of the 20-some episode season. It has 0 breathing room and just leaves you very confused while watching, though the animation is alright most of the time.

The worst possible one I can think of: They release trailers showing some cool stuff from the early manga they are going to adapt, everyone gets excited, the first season comes out... and they actually just adapt the early manga stuff in 2 recap episodes in the beggining of the season. After that it is Duelist Kingdom, becausa why adapt that stuff when it doesn't even have the card game?!? It The art style is that more modern one that Go-Rush has, but the original characters really don't look right in it; it always looks cheap and stiff, also all of the main monsters are CGI taken directly from Duel Links that look very jarring next to everything else.

i didnt know "there's not really any buff characters in yugioh" was even an existing idea to have about yugioh. from fans and nonfans alike. there's so many characters with nonskinny bodytypes in ygo, more than you'd expect, and theyre usually really fun character designs!! anyway now im gonna name every buff yugioh character i can remember here i go:

As somebody who hasn't watched Zexal and only knows the vaguest things about the plot, please elaborate on the insanity happening, or just tell us of some of the whackiest things you've seen in the YGO anime in general

Zexal is great because we're currently flying around the world in a spaceship made of clockwork to collect backstories on a bunch of aliens who died hundreds of years ago and went to Space Hell (?), with said backstories including being besties with a shapeshifting racoon who has slaughtered entire armies, winning at Roman Colosseum, and building an entire castle just to torture people. And that's not even noteworthy enough to make the Top Ten Weirdest Plotbeats In This Series.

Other highlights include:

The villain for like the first half of the show was a adult man with the physical body of an eleven year old and an interdimensional black hole where his face should be.

Someone died and was reborn as a housefly with a human head.

A member of the main cast is inexplicably an eighteen year old (the rest of the main characters are all in middle school) whose main form of transportation is his robot who can turn into a jetpack. This is also his best friend.

Local scientist attempted to participate in galactic war by using a psychic child to launch landfills into space.

A major politician spent years abducting children and forcing them to play card games for weeks on end until they reached their physical limits and learned magic(?) and this is brought up maybe once and never really discussed again.

Occasionally the plot is crashed by a thirteen year old girl who flies around on a hot pink cannon

The biggest problem for me wasn't just the production but Yusaku being a Roman Reigns 2.0 who took too much spotlight in the duels. People complain about this with Judai and Yusei, but those series get less hate nowadays. Vrains meanwhile is more of a messy written YGO series with little effort put into it. It's the same problem with Zexal.

So, let’s do Yugo.

Yugo’s Katakana name is ユーゴ. The correct Katakana would be instead ユウゴ..  This intentional misspelling is used in Performapal U Go Golem (エンタメイトユーゴーレム/EMユーゴーレム), so the romanization of this Katakana would be more correctly Ugo, rather than Hugo, though Hugo is also used in Japanese apparently. This is likely meant to give it a “drift-y” sound.

Hugo romanization uses the French pronounciation of the name, which is Ygo. Much like the other official romanizations, this missed the second “u” sound. Hugo means “mind/spirit/thought” from Frankish language, the Germanic origin of now Romance language of French. Ugo would be the Italian spelling of the name.

And yes, ユーゴ is not Yuugou. It would have to be either  ユーゴ ー, or  ユウゴウ, the latter being the correct Katakana.

The “go” part alludes to Mach GoGoGo (aka. Speed Racer), and the titular character, Go Mifune, though his Kanji name (剛) is pronounced gou. It means sturdy.

This is because Yusei’s name is partly an allusion to this. His D-Wheel, Yusei Go, is named after Ryusei Go, the vehicle of The Masked Racer (aka. Racer X), though the name originally used for the time travelling vehicle in Super Jetter. Yugo’s mythos are more based off from the 1997 version of the series.

The obvious pun here is go means five, and this is ARC-V. But this is likely not the intention.

護, Kanji means protect/safeguard, and can be spelled as ko.

吾, Kanji means I/me, and can be spelled as a.

悟, Kanji means enlightment, apprehend, or realize.

The last Kanji is somewhat important, since it is used in 覚悟, kakugo, resolution/abandonment, which is similar to 覚醒, kakusei, awakening/disillusionment used in Enlightenment Paladin. This also gives our Yusei allusion. This might seem absurd to associate with Yugo, but he extracanonically has the power of Clear Mind, as seen with his posthumous Accel Synchro, Crystal Clear Wing Synchro Dragon. (Yuya, if Meteorburst Dragon is an indication, seems to have Burning Soul instead.)

One more thing, since Yuya’s name is supposed to be Yu+yama (arrow), Yugo might be Yu+koma (top). Koma is spelled with Kanji as 独楽. This doesn’t quite fit, but Speedroid Terrortop (Japanese name: Speedroid Beigomax, alluding to beigoma, origin of Beyblade) uses the go Kana.

Other possibilities include 午, noon, and also 午, good luck, used in Rin’s Lucky Pied Piper, but that Kanji is spelled kou. Not go. This gives the likely intended kouri (ice/cold) pun with Rin’s name though.

Other options include  心, mind/spirit (though this seems to be more used for girls’ names), or 瑚, coral (figuratively person of virtue).

Wasn’t Yugi worried about the puzzle being in a house fire? He thought it would melt so he HAD to assemble it while the building was on fire.

Granted, the melting point of gold is 1,064°C (1,947°F) respectively. I don’t think house fires generally get QUITE that hot, so Yugi probably could have waited for the place to burn down and then just got the puzzle from the charred remains.

But I guess the items aren’t pure gold - kinda implied they put all the people of Kul Elna in a pot when they were making the items so the melting point might be a bit off.

But lava is 1,150°C (2,100°F), sooooo I’m assuming Mount Doom would DEMOLISH the items
