fanart for a scene in @nerdydowntherabbithole 's Taking Life As Is on AO3 !! a scene early on in the fanfic that sounded so cool it gripped me with inspiration, where a vulture swoops down and gets fucking got by a leviathan while our dear protagonists look on in horror of the beautiful brutality of mother nature happening right in front of them! dont you love it when you leave your rotting corpse behind and immediately get hit with the existential horror of almost dying and the primal fear of seeing something that much bigger than you and realising your fragility when you were once a godlike being above such lowly thoughts and struggles? anyway.

some details and thoughts !! :

-just before this scene, sugar (survivor's name in this fic) hunted and ate a salamander, so i included it in this here drawin too !! hell yeah esoteric fic-accurate details -(pro tip for any artists out there; if you want to push something into the background, gradient overlays are your friend. also, dont forget to check your values. outline your characters if they aren't popping out of the background enough) -in other, not fic-accurate detail,, moon's dress and marks. i think in the fic, moon's dress is more like,, an actual dress with sleeves and such. but also like, i do what i want and i want something thats barely a dress so i can show off my anatomy/mechanical bits art skills. i dont care if its not canon compliant im calling rule of cool -whoops i forgor the wires uhh shit nevermind it would cover the cool bits anyway whatever -also, while i am proud of the vulture and leviathan, they both used reference. like, i sketched them out yeah, but also the sketch was mostly done by staring at a reference the whole time and overlaying it on the canvas as needed when the drawing looked a little too off. so if you look at this and think 'aw man this guys too good at drawing i could never draw a vulture/leviathan/background/whateverthefuck like that' youre wrong. use references and get better at art by referencing references -shoutout to the miraheze wiki btw for supplying most of my references for this. fandom wiki could never

this fic holds a special place in my heart. like, i dont agree with it on a lot of things (how the cycle works, time between slugcat campaigns, how rot works, etc), but its very internally consistent and i like how all the characters are written. i really do like how, despite all the bickering, the iterators really do care for each other and love each other. i like that the blame isn't pushed just to pebbles, the acknowledgement of there being a lot of nuance and complications in the whole situation. i like the worldbuilding, nsh's wetland-esque biome, srs's gleaming glass beaches, the different interesting fauna/flora, slugcat society worldbuilding, the fucking trains hell yes trains.

most of all though, i love the authors dedication to getting a happy ending. no one left behind. all the iterators in the local group are getting freed (except for innocence but thats a different thing) all the slugcats are alive and doing well (even artificer's kids!!). and even though the fic throws the characters around, bad things happen, steps backward are taken,,, there is almost a palatable message that no matter what, things will be okay. artificer did bad and its acknowledged with visible consequences (scavenger temple route, which mightve made things so much easier on the route to nsh) but she still gets her kids back. hunter had her rot cured and even got some sick new upgrades but still struggles with overexertion and moments of weakness. both pebbles and moon have ptsd from the rot and the rain respectively and its handled reasonably well, not even mentioning the survivors guilt and learned helplessness on nsh and the whole,, guilt from causing this whole fiasco and the feeling of it being all their fault from srs,,,, , ,,,

i dont know. i just really like how dedicated the fic is to showing the realistic consequences of the unforgiving and brutal world of rain world and weaving it into a story of forgiveness and freedom. there are struggles but the heroes will still win and get to go home happy. its cathartic. i love it a lot.

Ok, have some basic wf tips with some questions regarding socialization at the bottom:

-Best early game warframes are Rhino and literally every Warframe you can get from the Tenno Lab of a Clan Dojo. You can check guides to see how each frame is built, but i can also give you an overview directly if any warframe specifically catches your eye.

-Level up your damage mods and elemental damage mods. They will get you through with your weapons.

-Each weapon has either a higher crit chance or a higher status chance. Build either a full crit build for a weapon or a status build with elemental mods (best are viral, corrosive against grineer, heat and slash) depending on which stat is higher for your weapon. (Btw, you normally get weapons by buying their blueprints from the market for credits, yes for credits not plat, then building it wih the right materials. Same for Warframes, but you need to craft their components first which drop from their own places before you can craft the blueprint for the warframe itself)

-Experiment, get slots from Nightwave or by buying them with plat (if you still have starter plat remaining), and stick with weapons you enjoy using the most rather than whats meta or good. You can get an Mk-1 strun (a very bad weapon for all but the very early game) to kill level 100+ enemies, so meta is a suggestion. (Also, theres a set of mk-1 weapons you can buy for credits which are slightly worse versions of the same weapon without the mk-1 prefix. They serve as intro weapons and consider buying them, but remember to sell them if you need slots/get their base counterpart or a better weapon)

-Progress through the starchart at your own pace. All Warframe content since 2022 and probably forever will be locked behind the New War quest. Do not fret over this, Warframe is not made to be rushed. Play at your pace, everything can be earned.

-Prime gear is not necessary to do good in Warframe, it is a bonus

-If youre confused by the story, thats normal

-if you ever get stuck, the wiki is your friend (but i am also available, being a veteran of the game)

So, yea, that should be all you need to know to get started. Now, onto questions regarfing your interaction with the community:

1. How much do you usually interact with other fandoms youre in?

2. Do you even wish to be a part of the Waframe fandom?

the long answer is this: i actually took a lil break from writing smosh fanfiction as i took a lil break from smosh in general. i flew a LIL too close to the parasocial sun and did not have the energy or time to keep up with or make any content. (this was all a much smaller part of my much LARGER mental health struggles, but i digress.) meanwhile i poured all of my energy into some of my other projects - my original works!! (i wrote some poetry, i worked on and created some ocs, i even started my own wiki. it was a really good time.) though i doubt ANY of y'all have interest in that lol so i'll get back to the matter at hand.

for a minute there i had two writing weeks in as many months that i churned out so much content for in a very small time. that's not to say that the two weeks i participated in weren't amazing - im SO grateful to have done them both!! (even though i didn't finish my own week LKNSKDNLNFK) but towards the end of all that, a few things hit me at once. perhaps i shouldn't have been surprised that after i posted - what like eight fics in the span of two months? - i was a LITTLE burnt out. all i was doing was nonstop writing for the same characters and tropes and i felt like i wasn't making anything new or exciting. it was quickly becoming more about quantity than quality. like i wasn't making the big long projects i WANTED to make and focus on you know. so i kind of took a step back to re-prioritize and decide what i wanted to do moving forward. and that's still a little up in the air.

i don't know how involved i'll be in the future with any of this. right now youtube is already in a weird place (the exodus of youtubers to private streaming services is... concerning for the platform at best) and i fear big changes are imminent. it makes me a lil wary of the platform in general. HOWEVER, i do have some passion projects that i want to write here (a bunch of people read iwks this week and boy oh boy did it remind me how much i loved writing iwks) and i may be involved in fandom stuff (i passed a follower milestone - would yall be interested in a giveaway??). i did watch a smosh video again for the first time in like two months and had a really good time so. things are looking up!

I love a creative mind, that is a fact. I find this thought genuinely interesting being that this show is basically a free for all to anyone who enjoys it, and the biggest mystery [in my opinion] is the White Wolf. All we know about her is that she's an absolute unit just comparing her size to the rest of the cast, World War 1&2 seems to always start when she appears, and Kedamono is her son. Being Keda is in the picture its no big surprise that she would somewhat know everyone else affiliated with the circus. This comment raises a few questions that [if @the-great-wheatley-tragedy sees this, and ofc anyone else] I would love to hear some thoughts about! First things first, where exactly did Papi call "home"? We only know of two places, the desert from the show, and the city that the wiki mentions. But we also know that Papi was a travelling performer which means he would have to had gone beyond both of those places, right? So where even is "home"? And what the hell did his dumbass do to get it destroyed? Papi has a tendency to do a lotta dumb shit, so genuinely, I wouldn't be surprised if he pissed off what I am going to assume is a godly/eldritch wolf being. Another thing- why the circus? Like I would get it if he visited, cause as mentioned here, he misses his son, but the desert isn't exactly a five star motel. Following from what we see in the show alone, they sleep outside, which they don't seem bothered by, but it honestly can't be that comfortable- Which brings my other fairly important[?] question into the mix. What about Marifa? Just- in general?? I mean Papi is 100 percent the type to show favorites, he makes it pretty obvious, but he couldn't have possibly forgotten he had a whole other kid, right?? Now yes, Im considering the fact this timeline can follow a story where Papi didn't know he had 2 kids, assuming both are his. I don't know much about Marifa, I only go based off whatever google can get to me, and I haven't looked into any other lore-related content besides the show. I feel like if he were to choose any option, it would be to visit Popee from time to time, BUT go live in the city where Marifa, and also yknow a decent living space, is. Mentally running in circles around my WIPs and getting pretty much nothing done. 🙃

The one thing I did do was make more decisions about Important Character Things for the Guidemarks AU. I'm not sure how spoilery it's going to be because I'm basically just setting up the world and characters and then writing the entire plot more or less unplanned, but here we go.

I love the Koholint Angst just as much as everyone else, but someone (I don't remember who) once made a post about what if Legend wanted to live in a dream instead of the real world. Kind of like that guy from The Matrix that teams up with the machines and betrays Morpheus and Neo. So Marin's not exactly... dead in my AU, but she also doesn't have a physical body and can only communicate with Legend right now. Normally, when he's asleep, he's just dreaming about her unless something can overpower that ability.

Side Note: Since Marin does technically have free will (it's my AU, I get to decide which philosophical theories are canonically correct) I need to decide what her Big Moment of Self-Determination is for her guidemark. It's probably going to be the Windfish, but I'm not sure because I haven't played the game and the wiki's summary of the plot isn't exactly a good character analysis.

The other Important Character Thing I've decided is that Time and Mask are going to be two different people.

Mask is dead, and tragically didn't survive past his first quest. He's a ghost that's kind of just been around since then, haunting the area he died before eventually moving on to haunt the hero(es) that stepped up in his place.

Time finished all the quests and physically grew up to be a real teenager/young adult. He's the one who actually knows Warriors and was involved in the events of HW, and has the Teenage Angst.

Am I hoping to be mean to Warriors with this? Yes. I think I would like to have a bit of plot where Mask at least tries to possess Time for a while because he's jealous that Time got to have a family, and he didn't after he left the Kokiri. Warriors figures out that something is up, and the big ghost reveal is all emotional because the ghost of what looks like his little brother is literally standing right in front of him.

It's super interesting to see this develop. The massive victim/persecution complex of a certain subset of Izzy fans. The vitriol leveled against all other fans, and the show itself, because clearly, these people never liked ofmd in the first place. Never liked what it actually had to say and instead, invented subtext that was never there to look into instead. It's like watching the birth of a conspiracy theory under controlled conditions in a petry dish. You will see these people say with their whole chest the most unhinged bullshit imaginable and receive praise for it, but when you keep in mind that for months, they have discussed the show Izzy in their insular little echo chambers, most of their takes become a lot more understandable. There's robust internal logic, even though, due to the flawed premise, none of it makes any sense.

But it becomes understandable when we loop back around to the point that a lot of these people don't engage with the show on its own merit. They really treat it as if it were just another queerbaity (maybe not even that) mid-2010s thing, too afraid to do something different.

at some point it starts doing Weirdly Umineko Coded dialogue totally unprompted so if you've read that it might tickle your funnybone to see comic book characters asking each other "was this a trick or was it magic 😏". made me feel right at home

my main complaint is that SHE'S NOT DRESSED LIKE A FUCKING MAGICIAN IN IT!!!! COME ON!!!!! they chickened out on the full magician garb in this whole era. which is just so sad. the fishnet fingerless gloves are funny though i might steal that. but i think she is so funny when she's wearing the full magician costume. like call me shallow but her commitment to the bit is so important to me

on the upside she interacts with wonder woman A Lot. the rest of the team is fun too. the justice league dark team is just wonder woman severely failing to put together a squad with any star power at all and i think that's adorable. her failgirl era. now she's out here with her also-rans. i like them all im fond of them

anyway i got a lot of DC Magic Lore (Strangely Familiar Edition) and Zee Content AND!!! Wondermagic Content. in this one. so even if i had an inkling about them before, this comic is really what detonated the charge so to speak. they interact so much

and the dynamic created w their relationship to magic and stuff is really interesting. brainwormy for sure. it took me from "who the hell is this magician" to "DO PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT WONDERMAGIC????? FOR THE LOVE OF GOD HELLO???" in one comic. i have a LOT of thoughts about them like genuinely i think there's meat on the bone conceptually for wondermagic

but i think pretty much any time they appear together in general they're just Like That. whenever theyre both in a comic they have to be gay about it (what the fuck did she mean by this). i was losing my mind when i was catching up on DC/RWBY (ABHORRED. avoid if possible) and zatanna is immediately on her bullshit again. IS THAT HOW YOU GREET HER

hiii!!! im kinda a baby when it comes to the otherkin identity stuff and im unsure if it like...feels real or not??? im just worried and i want to embrace it and i was wondering how you realised it was a part of your identity? i just dont ...feel real?? im not sure how to say it...its like my body isnt connected :(

For starters, I wanna validate your feelings and say it's okay to question if this is all real, to feel this disconnect, all of that jazz. Specially if you're new to the community! It's fine!

And secondly, don't let anyone tell you what to identify as if you're not harming anyone, be you and be so without caring about what others think!

But onto what matters. I'm going to talk a bit about my figuring out process and at the bottom of this post, I'll leave you with some resources to look at for yourself that'll maybe help you out. (Also I have an alterhuman server and we help out community newcomers and yeah it's a bit messy and not that active but shrugs. I love it)

I'm... many things, but my main identity, and the one I first found out, was a wolf. It didn't take me that long, after I found out what alterhumanity, otherkin and therian were, but I only found out when I was 16. Happy three year anniversary to my awakening!

I've always felt close to wolves and of all of my identities, it's the one I actually always felt ever since I was a kid, and the strongest- I wanted to turn into a wolf somehow, I even tried some folklore I found online about werewolves, I prayed for it, and nothing. I could feel like I had tails, and paws, and ears sometimes, briefly, and every time I saw wolves on TV it just felt like Me.

Like. As if I Was a wolf, just, not really, because of the. You know. Human body.

Also yes I was one of those who growled and made animal noises and bit people. Affectionately. Anyways

It all really just boiled down to finding the community, learning about the terms and realising that, yeah, that was me, and yeah, I was a wolf, in some way. Slowly, I started recognising other identities, yeah, I gained some, lost some, got a few wrong, still haven't gotten all of them right, in the end, what matters is I find a community that made me happy and that I can be myself.

i want to get into welcome home, but i'm not sure if i'm looking in the right place. and im trying to avoid just looking it up on the wiki since i don't want to spoil stuff for myself. yes/no, am i supposed to start with the website, and is the website a puzzle?

WELL uh I’m probably not the best person to ask for this since my friends introduced Welcome Home to me and I just kinda listen stuff from them. They explored the website in their own and also shared the video Night Mind made on Welcome Home to me, which you can find on YouTube. The website itself is where you find all the information. Thats the main place to find the story and that’s it no other places I think. You explore it to read about this cute lost media children show that people are trying to find. However if you keep looking deeper you find hidden things in the website you get see how everything they show on the surface isn’t all it seems to be. It’s kinda like a puzzle looking for codes and hidden texts and such, and of course if you have trouble with that or don’t want to go through the effort of digging through the website I recommend watching the video I said before made by Night Mind who talks about it and explain the whole thing better. I also should say Welcome Home is very much still in the beginning stages of its story so while there’s wonderful art and lots of intriguing things brewing, it’s only the start of the story so there isn’t much. I hope you have fun with it tho! It has a lot of charm pack into it!

Yes. Effy and Cook are 21 and Cassie is 23. Cook's birthday is in September or October, since it's towards the beginning of the school year. I did the actual math on Effy's birthday once, but I couldn't find the post I made... we know that in 207, she hasn't had her birthday yet and that she's doing her GCSEs. We also know that in 308 takes place between June 16th and June 23rd and in that episode she's 18. So her birthday is somewhere between May 12th and June 23rd. Her birthday definitely isn't December 29th.

In the UK, university is (typically) 3 years long instead of the 4 years we have in the US. So if Effy went straight into university the autumn of her 18th year, she'd be 21 when she graduated. IIRC, Skins Fire starts in autumn (or winter?), so if she started working right after she graduated university, she would have already been at the hedge fund for 3-6 months before the start of the episode.

Love Craft monsters

here is one great big list that this will contain: Dunwich horror, cthulu, shoggoth, gloon, rahn tegoth, formless spawn, and azathoth. big list. I will also note that trying to find accurate information surrounding this can only really be achieved by looking at the source material

The dunwhich horror, unfortunatly the only way to get accurate descriptions of what this creature can do is in the full text and I am unsure If I have the time for that due to my time regulation issues that I am still trying to work out. Due to this I will instead be working off of the image on the front cover of a more recent book and the other image. From what I have read the creature has a large tongue though in neither image this is showed. The book cover depicts a creature that has a colouration similar to what I think dead flesh would look like and has a more human upper face though the bottom looks like an organic grill, similar to the gills on a basking shark or the mouth area on former slipknot drummer jay Weinbergs mask in the end so far album cycle. some of the colour may be used for the skin colour of my human part of the model and may consider something similar for the mouth in sketches. The other image feels more insect like due to there being a large amount of segments like a millipede and may be more accurate due to the tongue. It looks more droopy than the other and seems to be having a harder time keeping itself together, like it is made up of multiple worms. The worms are closer looking to individual parasites than tentacles due to the spiked mouths that seem to be at the end and are made up of segments. I suspect that my final result will be more solid like the book cover than the one on the right though I may use a combination of both tentacles depending on which looks better as the book is smoother and more flowy and the right has the textured plates. I may also use the vein effect coming off of some of the tentacles as seen in the book as It just works well

cthulhu print from spiral direct. Yes im using a t shirt its the only way I can find a source comfortably. most of it is wiki that doesnt say where it comes from. The design of cthulhu seems to be quite consistent on its main details, the creature has an octopus shaped head with the tentacles taking the place of the mouth as well as having a large body that towers over the landscape and has two large ragged wings coming out of their back. the colouration seems to always be some type of green from what I have seen but this can vary between a bright green or a dark and dull green as seen in the image above. I am not sure If I will use a green colour in the model I am making but I may consider it if I dont like the other colours I try as I think It would work, so will likely act as the back up options. on the arms and head of this depiction and they have spines that follow the shape of the arm in direction, like armour. I may use a similar shape for on top of the mass if there is time. It reminds me of a barnacle you find on some fish and crustaceans. I will also note that the wings remind me of the rakk in borderlands

shoggoth- second image from path finder

this entity is described as being amorphous and has appeared in both love crafts original works and also in the ttrpg game pathfinder. The path finder image reminds me of leaches in their colour and texture and also the mouths shown. the arms dont appear to move as much as others in terms of winding but definitely look liquidy. I do not have many thoughts on this design. The design on the left however I am much more interested in. I believe this shows the creature more stretched out and taking up more space, leading to gaps in its body and is covered in eyes everywhere, but I am most interested in the blue blisters. I had forgotten that this is something commonly seen in media with infections as well as in real life, like with the bubonic plague. This may be something that I need to consider in the design of my model though I am unsure If it would actually work well, maybe have it act as additional smaller nodes similar to the original larger mass.

gloon. Its an ancient greek statue with slugs coming out of the back. It looks very plain but slightly unsettling because of the lack of colour. The only colour that Is there is the gold on the slugs which feels very bright and because of the connections of gold with greed and corruption it feels slightly like a false ness , probably connecting to the statue image possibly being a mask. shall consider using smaller elements of other colours in order to give some contrast bits to look more interesting.

Rhan-tegoth call of cthulu book. front legs remind me of a spider, may be something used in extra background drawings, possibly as an infection method but I doubt it would have any bearing on the model. Once again I am taking note of the shell on the back, it makes me thing of an insect or a snail for some reason and something else that I cannot name. What I may do Is have a stacked shell or have a second layer of shell indicated by the lip at the point where the shell becomes tentacles.

formless spawn from pathfinder and call of cthulhu

another two monsters from the lvoe craft universe used in a ttrpg, not just in pathfinder but also in call of cthulhu. The call of cthulhu design seems to be the most liquidy of the creature i have look through for love craft and I do not believe it has much to add when considering the other monsters on on this post. The main detail I will take Is that the point of the tendrils seem to resemble a hook, may add that at some point but I am un certain. The path finder design however, seems more like a sludge. still struggling to maintain its form but I have taken note of the pattern seen on the main cylindrical body where it feels scrunched up like some one has piled layers of material and has not attatched it properly, May use a similar texturing instead of uniform on some of the tentacles If I feel It would work

I added all of these pictures on at the same time and after working through all of them after adding them I cannot remember why this was here oas I feel like the rest of this post has contributed everything that This may have. The most that could be gained from this is having a split in the parasite somewhere but I doubt it would work well

Also idk how canon the wiki is because im sorry im not going to read. Who knows how many books and novels and campaigns worth of stuff to create my own version of the plot

but I choose to interpret Lolth and her "fall" as the very reflection of sexism that DnD used to have. So I interpret Lolth, before she fell, as a woman who had married a man but was only ever considered a "consort" (at least the wiki never specifies if he actually considers her his wife? But makes clear that he is her husband) and as such always had felt belittled. Never truly equal to him and so it bread resentment.

This resentment came from her feeling that she wasn't truly equal to her partner in the way that he required of her and so she would find power, obtain it, and prove to him that she was of equal if not greater than him. This did lead her to looking into more of the infernal and demonic magics but it was by her own free will she had done so. I want to believe she wasn't "corrupted" by the demons and people she had entwined herself with to obtain the unholy and demonic power but instead learned from them and obtained it through her own right.

As it makes her descent wholly her consequence. Due to this fall though she would reach out to other elves, people she had ruled over before she had fell into the demon web pits and offered them a way out of their similarly oppressive male-dominated nature. By creating drow in a similarity to spiders she would place female/femininity above the patriarchy and establish a matriarchy among her new followers so that she, and her people, wouldn't suffer the same as she had. Although, she would lack the foresight to realize she was doing the exact same as her ex-husband had to her only flipping the script.

By making women more physically powerful, bigger, and overall stronger in some aspects biologically she challenged the established patriarchies of the underdark and other civilizations of how they ruled. Of course Lolth was not without fault and her aspect as a goddess of Chaos would come back to bite her.

As she needed chaos to thrive, and so had her people create as much of it as possible. Justifying starting wars, infighting, and sending them to the surface to wreak havok as a way to grow her power and also establish bonds between the powerful and cull out any weaker forces among her ranks. Since Lolth needed power. She needed to never feel weak compare to her fellow gods and goddesses so that no one could put her in a position she had been in before feeling lesser than others.

of course this is a self destructive behavior and her attempt to ascend, the silence of lolth, would backfire horribly for her. After all, no one tells you how to be a goddess and after being stripped of her power and scrambling to find shreds of her godhood again in the demon web pits she struggled and was unsure how to proceed. Drow now have learned to be more tolerant of their fellow male counterparts, even allowing the ruling house males to rule over important parts of the city. It's a small change but one that Lolth doesn't know how to handle, much less face, as times nd social standing change. Worried she is losing her grip and control, terrified especially with how more male drow start this revolution against her and her tyrany that it would end the same as it had been before she attempts to keep as many followers close and ingrained with her ideals as possible.

In my view Lolth is a woman/Goddess who had been scorned while in marriage, but took the most extreme route to solve this issue and instead caused the same pain that was inflicted upon her. A Goddess that has to struggle with how her children / the people she created now are moving on, moving past her, and bettering themselves in a way she can't understand and grapple or has extreme difficulty in grappling. Yes, she is evil. Yes she had harmed many people and took advantage of many, and doesn't regret her decisions but she also is a Goddess attempting to keep power and learn of self worth when not compared to other Goddesses and Gods who continuously shame her for having fallen so far, been exiled, and grow in hostility for her simply wanting to be seen as equal and part of one whole, not an attachment to another God.

She's still a badass bitch, but i feel she's more lawful evil than anything as she holds her own ethics and reasoning for things even if the actions she does harms others and even her own people to better herself. She took an extreme reaction and method to counter her struggle with inequality and while obtained the power she wished ended up creating a race and empire that was not too different from her ex-husband. Showing that neither method, patriarchy or matriarchy, are the "right" way to go and it's cooperation between all that will keep bonds strong

Something Lolth still has yet to learn, if she's ever able to accept it.
