The new Miraculous special (with Shadybug and Claw Noir) was lots of fun! But I can't help wondering what Bridgette and Felix would have talked about after patrol. Who knew there were so many cute little cats across the Bugverse? 🥰

i can flesh this out with a longer post later but watching gravity falls as an adult, with the knowledge of ford and stan's history from the get go, it just hits different.

like, i'm jewish. i also come from a immigrant, slavic, ashkenazi family with plenty of just-below-the-surface inter generational conflict. you can really read ford and stan's stories as being different ways children (and especially, in immigrant families) react to that conflict and pressure. ford is a compulsive overachiever meant to be his family's "ticket out" of poverty. stan can't live up to his family's expectations and becomes estranged, perpetually running to and from something. bill is the promise of something better that ends up being too good to be true and ruining ford's relationships with everyone. (read that as alcohol, drugs, what have you) he is the literal manifestation of that trauma.

dipper and mabel are several generations removed but still wary of that conflict that looms over them like a specter. but they break the cycle of trauma by learning to trust in eachother, and help their family to heal. the literal manifestation of inter generational trauma is defeated when the family is reconciled and works together. they are stronger together than they are apart.

and in the end it's not too late for stan and ford. it's not too late to heal, to grow, to start again. it's never too late. there's still time.

Companion Durge having 'I can fix them. I can make them worse better' thoughts after seeing Greygold not fully optimizing their half-orc savage attacker feat. Just so much 'embrace murder' approval and so much confusion why they intentionally avoid splitting skulls in two.

Not sure how Durge's approval system would work, but I like to think sometimes Embrace Dark Urge rears their lil bloodthirsty snoot and tries to entice Greygold to join 'team murderize'. Would be fun(?) not knowing if you were raising Resist Urge Approval or Embrace Urge Approval until he started giving you a hug or a bloody heart (sometimes from your own chest).

Sorry! Got a little too focused on these guys today :P These characters are definitely the easiest for me to design a 10-years-later concept. Very proud of them!

still cannot stop thinking about the way the crowd ROARED when Sam picked Frodo up to carry him the last length... like. i don't think there's a way for live theater to not be interactive. the energy of the audience will always become a piece of it. by being in that room, you are taking part in that process of creation. and the musical really dug in so deep to the ways that LotR is about stories and storytelling, the way that Sam and Frodo can feel their own story around them but don't get to know the shape of it. don't get to know how it ends. don't get to know whether anyone will ever know the part they played in it. whether anyone will ever live to hear it, even if they should live to tell it.

but we were there. we were all there, all gathered around to hear an old tale we know. we were there when Frodo stumbled, we were there when Sam lifted him up. all the moments of unsung glory, all the moments of no glory at all, when they were tired and cold and alone but we were there. we were there, we were cheering them on when the world was against them. we were losing our goddamn minds for them. we got to be there.
