HELLO NSR FANS!!!! Once again I have to ask you lovely people a question!!!!!
Soooo…you know how everyone celebrates May 1st as Mayday’s birthday? First of all,I love the idea that her birthday would be on,well…a May day!! But it makes me wonder…
Do the other NSR characters have birthdays? Should the fandom find some random days of possible significance to make as their birthdays??
I tried looking for possible days to claim as birthdays for them. I looked at the NSR Presents videos, but I realised that they were all released one after another,so that probably wouldn’t fit!!
So…if anyone would like to tell me their possible Headcanon birthdays for the other characters,I’d love to hear it plz!!!! :D
#On the topic of going to the NSR presents videos for birthdays#It would make everyone a Capricorn!! I KNOW THE ZODIAC LOVING FOLKS WANT VARIETY WITH THEIR CHARACTER’S STAR SIGNS#Also Sayu not being a water sign feels wrong XD#HHHHHH I JUST NEED A DAY TK CELEBRATE MY DAD’S BIRTHDAY AND TELL HIM HOW MUCH I LOVE HIM#YES THAT GOES TO DJSS#I LOVE YOU SPACE DAD!!!!#NSR#no straight roads#NSR Mayday#Mayday NSR#Birthday#Birthday Headcanon#Also funny idea- What if Mystery Man was born on a leap year’s extra day??#Febuary 29th is technically the most illsuive day of the year…perfect for NSR’s most Illusionen character!!

Let's talk about DJ Subatomic Supernova...
Ah yes one of the most eccentric, funniest, and coolest designed bosses. DJSS is the very first boss you fight and acts as a sort of test after the lights up audition tutorial. He is very interesting and his personality is through the roof, so let's get started shall we?
"What have you done today? Simpletons!"
DJSS has an ego, you could say it's planet sized (ba-dum tss). Anyways, even though he has an ego he is one of the most loved characters in NSR. I can see why, he has a huge personality and a really cool theme going on with it being based on space.
Unlike other NSR artists we do know he had two jobs before becoming an artist, a university professor and an astrophysicist, which explains his vast knowledge of space. He knows a lot about space and uses his knowledge in really funny ways. One example is this quote: "You remind me of......Pluto! Once thought to be a planet of the solar system but no longer is."
I love love love his personality and the fact that his head is basically a black hole. I always thought that his head breaking symbolized his ego getting shattered. Seeing that he thinks even if NSR is defeated, his music will last after the fall of NSR.
I could go on and on but I'm gonna save it for later.
His boss fight is very fun.
You start out with him at his turn table and you hitting disco balls to damage him. This is very interesting as you move around him, with DJSS being in the center. He's the center of the solar system in his fight.
Second phase he gets bigger and now it looks like you are in a solar system as the disco balls are now planets. He has more attacks, such as being able to throw comets at you and still being able to move the planets like he's turning a record. His head becomes more shattered as the fight goes on.
Third phase he makes himself even larger and not he has noodle arms. Not only does he still have his planets and comets but now he also has a laser. While this phase isn't harder you do have to worry about a lot of things at once.
Once you get through those three phases you then have to reach him. His head will then crack fully and a black hole will appear, you have to run to DJSS while dodging music notes along the way. This is fairly easy to get through as you have enough time to dodge the music notes.
I feel his battle, or phases rather, correlate with his ego/personality. If you ever pay close attention to his head it starts to slowly crack, like his ego is gradually crumbling. He gradually grows in size to assert he is in control of what's around him, like someone with some huge ego.
His music genre is Disco Stellarum House, for those who don't know what that is, it's a genre of edm but the inspiration could come from disco house. Disco house is an edm genre that mixes the funky tunes of disco with the electronic sounds of house music. You can clearly hear this in his theme. His theme is an absolute bop when it comes on, you can't help but to dance to it.
He is also self-centered with him depicting himself as the center of the universe, but I went over that earlier. I wanna talk about the record cover when B2J defeats him.
They are literally using his head like a basketball. They are dunking his head in a basketball hoop. THAT'S HILARIOUS AND SO FUNNY, just imagine you've been defeated by these "plutonians" and they're using your head as a basket all. Pure, funny, and hilarious to think about.
Dj Subatomic Supernova is a very fun character and has a lot of appeal to him. This may be why people love him so much.
So let me ask you all a question.
Why do you like DJSS?? + a Dj Sub doodle.

NSR AMA FILE 2 (part 1)
How did you find your voice talents? In Malaysia the usual pattern is to go to a voice recording studio and have them find an actor for you, but they wanted to open opportunities so they on facebook, twitter, etc.
Differences between English and Japanese VA? According to Daim, the biggest difference is the Japanese VAs are punctual (though Su Ling was very punctual). Japanese VAs are also super professional. Ayane Sakura (Mayday's VA) finished the recording by 8 PM on the dot, every single line done. Steven and Su Ling helped coach less experienced VAs as well.
Did the game Jet Set Radio influence NSR's game design? Not so much as just the style of it. It's hard to draw the line between what affects game design and game experience. One of the ones that count is the grafitti that starts showing up the more you progress in the game.
Can Neon J dance? Yes, he is actually a dancer. He was in the Navy but his true passion has always been dancing. In the 1010 fight, what they wanted to do on the final phase was him dancing on the factory as well, so the factory is mocapped by him. Unfortunately due to limited resources they couldn't afford to include that. If you beat 1010 and talk to Kayane again she will say that Neon J is the best, so she actually saw him dance.
What do you look for in a concept artist? A good concept artist must be able to problem solve for what the story and the game needs. Good basics and a sense of lighting. A concept artist must understand what the final result looks like, so the art is also a communication tool not just for art's sake.
What do you look in a musician/music associate? Hazmer wanted Falk on board not just for good sense of rhythm and music, but also technical know-hows. The music isn't just for soundtrack, but the experience must fit the music and vice versa. Having a musician that understands looping and dynamism was the key.
What is the nature behind DK's shadow puppet powers? Is it passed down in the family? Does Zuke have it too? It might have (Daim doesn't want to lock the lore in) been a family thing, so Zuke might have it too. But what they wanted to do in the game is to showcase how despite the two brothers going different paths, they both dabble in percussions (Zuke drums, DK West handclaps). There is a hint of similarity in their craft. The idea to make DK Zuke's brother came from a staff member a few months into the production, previously he was just supposed to be some random guy who came and left.
Is Neon J added in the midst of 1010's development? Neon J and 1010 were both designed way later than the other bosses. So no, 1010's boy band concept was the idea since the beginnning, it's just that they took a while to finalize. There was a sequence in early development where you had to platform up towards the factory while fighting 1010/NJ. Compared to other NSR artists, 1010 was a mix of a lot of ideas from many people in the studio, which also means that many of their themes were added in later including their army theming. Their development is a reflection of manufactured boy bands, the studio members are like the manufacturers of the characters.
Yinu's animation style is different from the rest of the 2D commercial segments. Was this on purpose? Yinu and DJSS's commercials were originally done by someone else (Jerry?) before LZBros came and did the rest.
Any favorite OCs? There's so many… but they were very touched when seeing the end product of the Citizens of Vinyl City project. The fact that they were able to inspire OCs at all is extremely humbling and they didn't think it would have this much impact.
Why is the 1010 stage a moving limo? When Hazmer was thinking about NSR before they even started, he listened to music and tried to imagine what the action stages would be like. Somehow a moving platform is always what comes to mind. Then someone brought up "what if we had all the stages in different directions", e.g. DJSS goes in a circle, Yinu moves upwards, etc. The 1010 stage was troublesome to work with since the side buildings was hard to work with and caused some motion sickness, even within the team. They referred to Uncharted 2 for the tech, a mobius/figure 8 effect where the environment only changes depending on how much progress the players make. There was supposed to be a cutscene where you ride the helicopter to bring B2J to drop them on a moving car in 1010 approach.
How do you feel about speedrunners? Do you prefer glitchless runs or the glitchiest possible run? Early on when discussing the features of the game, they did take into account speedrunners. Haz thinks speedrunners add a flavor into game design and he wanted to tackle the demographic. To be honest glitches cause them a lot of stress (because they have to patch them) but they are also fun to see.
Will we ever get animated shorts? LZBROS WHERE ARE THE ANIMATED SHORTS- (Daim: would be nice lol)
Which NSR character was Ellie's favorite to design/draw? Sayu (very fast answer, but apparently Ellie just really likes drawing mermaids) and Eve.
What is Neon J/DJSS/Mama's real name? Neon J has no real name (they never gave him one). DJSS does presumably have a real name but he insists to be addressed by his stage name. Yinu's mama also has no canon name.
Will there be a sequel? When the opportunity arises! They're definitely considering it, but they also want to explore new grounds.
How did you get the themes for the bosses? They came up with the concept before drawing the characters. Sayu had an interesting story because Ellie designed her like a schoolgirl bunny rabbit, but later Daim realized Ellie likes mermaids so they switched courses. The direction also helped set Sayu apart from Hatsune Miku.
Less obvious symbolisms in the boss designs? Yinu's mama has yellow pupils because Yinu is her life. As the battle progresses, her pupils disappear to symbolize that she's lost sight of what she loves. Hence at the end, her pupils come back to show that she has regained her humanity. Sayu's arena represents going deeper not just into the ocean, but also into geek culture and the deep web.
During the game auditions, it says everything in the world follow music. Is this only for Vinyl City or for the world? It refers more to the game design itself, not the lore.
Was Yinu's father an NSR artist? No.
Do the 1010 members have their own personalities, memories, and ways to express themselves? Personalities and expression is covered in the previous AMA but they do have personal memories.
The game mentions that Eve was the first NSR artist, in what order did the other bosses join NSR? If they had to guess, Eve and 1010 were the original members. Neon J is like the Soundwave to Tatiana's Megatron. They don't know about the rest because it's not actually locked in.

Who do you think is the most powerful NSR character magic/physical wise?
Oh DJSS for sure. (and this is gonna get messy and not properly organized lol) [Okay while writing this I actually think Tatiana might be more powerful, but I wrote most of this from the perspective of DJ so just read and hang out til the end for Tatiana's part lol]
That bitch not only survives being blasted into space, but they also can shoot literal beams of ultra charged sunlight at you and change his size. Not to mention being able to throw asteroids and planets (disco balls) at you that he has full control of. I'm pretty sure if they were actually trying they could kill you in an instant.
Plus I just imaging them as being able to survive in situations that others would never be able to. Not having air, too cold or too hot of temperature, not having food for long amounts of time. DJ and his elemental half of him is very strong and able to do incredible things if he just had a kick in his step.
Sure we see Mama also change size (not counting the end where everyone grows) or Eve manipulate other people's minds, which is power right in itself. But the combination of things DJ can do (and potentially do) outweighs what we see the others do, at least in magical/non physical powers.
Like, going back to Mama because she was also someone I immediately thought of, she is strong, yes. We know this. But she is also using Yinu for attacks during the fight. Yinu shooting the notes while Mama is being more of a tank, with some attacks thrown in occasionally at the beginning and then mostly Mama attacking.
She does have great control over her powers as well, being able to grow far bigger than DJ did (but we don't know if DJ just didn't want to destroy his planetarium unlike Mama who didn't care and just broke the building) and being able to snap to just slam chunks of land down at B2J.
Her power comes more in the environment I feel like. If she couldn't root into the ground (like if it was all snow/ice, water, sand, or something like that) she would be far less effective in her powers. While someplace with lots of plants, like Natura, gives Mama an advantage in her powers.
But DJ's powers come mostly from within I feel. Yes he can use outward powers like the disco balls/planets, but my main thing I cling to is the beam of light he shoots out of his chest along with those noodle arms they could literally use to destroy shit if they were big enough and slammed those things down.
Going to Eve, she also has all her power come from within. I would not say she is very physically strong, maybe more than the average person/human as I feel like she works out, but her power comes entirely from within herself. But her powers are incredibly strong.
Eve can mess with people's minds, which is usually a very OP power to have where you can literally just snap someone's reality and fuck them over for life. But we don't know the true extent of her powers. Does she need the person to be able to SEE her illusions (that would make her useless to blind people, making Neon better than her as I see him as blind) or does she just need a brain to mess with (which goes into the question of if DJ even has a brain for her to connect with, because I don't think they have a real brain, making her powers useless against DJ and them being stronger than her).
Or her powers could be literally changing reality but only temporarily (or a combination of these). However, looking at all of this with Eve, even if she were able to mess with DJ based on her powers, it would be a thing of who's mind is better/stronger. And in that situation I think the two would be evenly matched. They are both extremely smart in their own fields and I feel like the two are self aware enough that they would be able to hold their own in a psychic match against the other. So yeah, compared to Eve, I think DJ can match her in her own powers along with outranking her in their physical prowess.
I don't even think I should have to mention Sayu because mer powers are all based in tech. Whenever ze is in the real world ze would either be a hologram or a robotic body that wouldn't have much power to it, not like when Sayu is in mer tech world. So DJ would easily defeat a Sayu that is in the real world.
But when it comes to the tech world, if DJ did whatever B2J did and went in to fight Sayu.... hmmm, I can see him having both and easy but also hard time. Sayu's attacks are quick and kinda unpredictable at times, with 4 people basically attacking you at once. However, DJ feels like they would be a very hard hitter with lots of health. Sure his speed wouldn't be that great, but he'd be able to destroy the programmer chip things easily. Heck he might literally be able to just attack Sayu directly or grab that trident when ze would try and hit the ground/him with it.
I would say that if DJ can survive/protect his head from constant onslaught of damage (which he seems very bad at doing) he would be able to defeat Sayu pretty easily. If he can't protect his head then Sayu would win, or at least it would be a tie as we don't know WHAT a black hole in that situation would do.
And all of that is if we aren't taking into account how close DJ is with Sayu (or how I see them). DJ would be able to read Sayu and the Crew very well, giving them an advantage over them because I can see the crew and Sayu talking to him about fighting or moves they know how to do, but DJ wouldn't talk to them about his own fighting. So DJ would be able to out beat Sayu just by knowing them really well.
1010 and Neon J are very skilled fighters (at least Neon is definitely). It would also be a 5 or 6v1. Already making it advantageous to 1010. However, 1010 isn't really that strong, they have their shields and their finger guns. Both of those won't really do much damage to DJ, as he will probably be able to easily destroy a 1010. And heck, he would be able to swat the factory right out of the sky.
However, once Neon truly joins the battle using 1010 bots, I can see the fight becoming more even. As explosives are used and quick attacks like the saws or staves, I can see DJ getting run down during the fight. Especially if Neon keeps his distance, which I think would be 1010/Neon's best advantage. If they stay far enough away, they could use their weapons to slowly whittle DJ down. The only thing they would have to worry about is the sun beam and asteroids (maybe the disco ball/planets depending on where they are fighting) which they can have their shields protect them (if fans are around).
So if 1010 and Neon can keep their distance from DJ, which does seem easy to do with their jetpacks/boots and the flying factory, then I can see them winning with some scratches to their bodies. But if this is a close combat fight, definitely DJ for the win just from the size changing alone (like imaging DJ could literally just pick up any of the 1010 and throw them lol, I mean they could do that with almost anyone but still).
And then with Tatiana, I do think she is powerful. She should be, with her fireballs and time movement, I do think her and DJ could be very evenly matched.
Like will that light beam even hurt Tatiana? I'm sure it would somewhat, but not NEARLY as much as any other character who gets hit by it. It definitely would not burn her at all. She could also smack those asteroids away or dodge them easily with her time powers.
I was going to say that I don't think she would do much damage to DJ, but honestly as I am thinking about it I think she would. Even if DJ grew really big, he would be able to block the fireballs very easily, but they would still HURT him. They are fire balls after all. And the ones he can't block, because we all know what a pain those pink parryable fireballs are, would be an easy shot to the head, making the damage even more significant.
I can see DJ doing some damage to Tatiana too though. Constantly hitting her with rocks and beams of light would slowly whittle her down, but she would dodge most of them. His attacks are slow and heavy but Tatiana's are quick and heavy. She would definitely be able to out damage him while still taking on only some damages.
So yeah, I am starting to change my mind. Tatiana would actually start to kick DJs ass. She is hard to hit, takes damage really well (even taken less damage from some of DJ's attacks because of her elemental side), and hits hard too (not to mention she hits with swords which is another added form of damage).
I actually think Tatiana would beat DJ in a fight. But I don't think Tatiana could beat everyone else like DJ could. Tatiana would have difficulty getting shots on Eve and 1010/Neon. I do think she'd be able to take on Sayu, unless something stops her fire (like if the level was coded as not being able to have fire in it because they are supposed to be under water) then I can see Sayu winning, but only by a margin because Tatiana is even faster than Sayu's attacks. And Tatiana would win against Mama alone because of the fire advantage, but might get knocked down if Mama and Yinu can work together fully (those triplets and music bombs would easily overwhelm Tatiana if she also had to dodge Mama at the same time).
So for a quick recap, I think DJSS would be the strongest overall character with Tatiana being able to beat him. There are instances where other Megastars could beat DJ but only if they have the right advantages (such as speed or range). If I had to rank everyone it would probably go:
1.DJSS
2.Tatiana
3.Eve
4.1010+Neon J
5.Mama+Yinu
6.Mama
7.Neon J
8.1010
9.Sayu
10.Yinu

DJ Supernova Backstory & Character Theory
Haha first post but after listening to the unlocked information about the bosses in No Straight Road it occurred to me that a lot fo the bosses are very well fleshed out character rather than first glance suggests. one of them being DJ Subatomic Supernova.
Rather than being the egotistical self centered ego maniac we took him for at first, I think that DJ Subatomic Supernova is a much more sadder character: someone who wants to be greater than what they are and someone who wants to be remembered. A very human concept.
Now in the English release of the game currently (August 2020), the cassette tapes from DJSS reveal that he could be either a college lecturer or something of that type. In the first tape he goes on and on like int he boss fight about his self importance but notably towards the end he thanks 3 people for coming:
As well as the janitor in the door. Now it could be that he’s doing a podcast or some other version of taking program. Until he says in the second tape:
Now he could be referring to being an academic student, but my argument is that why would an academic student be presenting to an audience and only 3 students be present? It makes more sense that he was maybe a guest speaker or lecturer trying to spread his ideals in the classroom, and simply no one came to his class because of that. His accent, the way he speaks, it does suggest that while full of himself he does have some sort of intelligence. He was trusted with the NSR satellite launch and even in the third tape created drones to attach onto it to play his music in the galaxy! So he is in some way intelligent.
The tapes do show that DJSS has this very much vain sense of self before he was even in the music industry.
So why does he think he’s the center of the universe? (haha little pun)
His self inflated ego could come from his intelligence but I think it’s more deeper than that. Through out the cassette tapes we see a much more thoughtful side of the character. Someone that fears being forgotten. Someone that doesn’t want to be a drop in the ocean. Someone that wants to be special, be noticed and to be something more than everyone else. Someone that wants to have a legacy.
DJSS as seen believes that he is something more than an average person, and from the facts that he can create drones, form his knowledge on astronomy and even being trusted with a sattelite launch into space- he’s right. He’s a smart enough person to know that everything he might do could be washed away once he dies. That everything in his life could only be dust in the wind, that nothing he does doesn’t matter because no one would remember him. He goes into academics because he wants people to listen to him, to hear his opinions and to just know who he is. He says others can’t be on his level because while others may think only in their time frames, he’s thinking of the rest of time.
He quits, goes back to his home town and looks out to the stars. He wants to combine his voice with his other passion: melodies. He becomes famous, everything you would think DJSS wants. But he says:
Why? He says that it’s because everything he has done, his music, his words and ideas: everything that is him will just fade into nothing. He will be nothing when he’s gone. It’s that familiar fear that many people get as they get older, the fear in a mid-life crisis. What has he done, what has he prove, what will he leave? Who will remember him when he’s gone? Who after his immediate loved ones? These ideas combine very well with his theme: Space.
Space can signify being egoistical, being so high, alien, and untouchable by us on Earth. But there are other sides, and the other greatest theme with space is fear. Cosmic Horror focuses on the fact that compared with the rest of the universe, human existence is insignificant. Everything we are, do or feel doesn’t matter. We have no higher purpose, no true reason to live. We just exist and we’ll disappear all the same with no consequences for anything else. That is what I think DJSS’s crisis is. He wants to matter, if anything he wants the Eart to matter in comparison with the rest of the universe. But looking out to the countless galaxies in the night sky, it’s hard to feel significant.
He says in the first tape: “We require an avatar to make ourselves known throughout the universe.”
The ending lines of the third tape being: “And I... Only I, shall claim the title, “Avatar of Earth”.”
Is he still egotistical? Yes, very much so. Wanting to be the representation of our entire planet through his music for any future cosmic beings to listen to when Earth is long dead and gone is fairly self-centered.
The saddest part being that DJSS wants to send the NSR satellite with drones attached playing his music in space, so he’ll last forever for anyone to hear in the void. But the satellite is sent hurling to the NSR tower and destroyed to save Vinyl City.

I made a self-indulgent AU where everything is the same except Kliff is a decent person. I’ll call it GoodKliff AU.
He genuinely does want Rock back and actually thought it would generate enough energy to save Vinyl City. Once finding out that rock’s energy was just equal to EDM’s output, he was crushed but helped make things right. Not sure how the satellite part would go down.
Then my brain went BBRRRRR with headcanons about this Kliff
Really good at electronics so he can help out Neon J and DJSS
Overly optimistic and forgets that bad things can happen. It’s really hard to break his spirit even if something goes horribly wrong, unless he feels responsible.
He apologizes a lot. On the behalf of others, for himself, and on occasion for apologizing so much.
Like how Mayday says “Aw she’s cute!” And “oh no they’re hot” he often gets carried away with stuff like that. “GDJSBEJWJSKSN ITS F Y R A”
Infodumping about the Goolings with Mayday.
Can’t make songs even if his life depended on it but can make stuff that makes songs.
He gets increasingly concerned over the collateral damage of the battles
“And we broke yinu’s piano” “you w h a t” “it was an accident it fell! Where are you going-“ “to apologize and try to fix it”
“ok what’d you destroy in this fight” “neon J’s boy band and his factory- don’t worry we asked if he could salvage them and he said yes.” “Oh thank goodness.”
“ok we didn’t break anything this time we actually fixed something which was Eve’s confidence alone” “THANK. YOU.”
Music like EDM actually hurts to listen to for Kliff, which is why he’s really into rock and so dedicated to it. (I’ve met some like this, they say it feels so weird and it “tingles”)
He has earmuffs and headphones for going out in public for this reason. He has a collection, actually.
He has a pair of headphones signed by Fyra and he cherishes them.
His favorite stim is shaking his head
A second favorite is doing air guitar and it turns to arm flapping
He often starts his day by blasting the goolings and dancing. He goes all out and is often out breath by the end but he has more energy than Mayday on energy drinks
It’s arguable if his dancing is good or not but he sure is happy when doing it
Tatiana’s orderly? This man’s chaotic. He’s Florida Man.
He’s a hype man and actually has poor volume control when excited.
When he gets to NSR tower it’s right after Zuke says it’s only 47%, so he didn’t hear it
So he slams open the door going “HELLO NEW KING AND QUEEN OF ROCK HOW DOES SAVING VINYL CITY FEEL and sorry Tatiana for overthrowing you’re government”

Yo dude can you do the ask game with no straight roads?
Absolutely!!
Favorite thing about that game:
The boss design and the music are SO GOOD. Just by themselves they're the backbone of the whole game, and they're so interesting that it engages you completely. No Straight Roads has one of those soundtracks that you can (AND SHOULD) listen to on Spotify/Youtube even if you've never touched the game itself. The bosses, protagonists, even quite a few NPCs are very memorable and so goddamn good.
Least favorite thing about that game:
The lack of depth. I love the story and world-building that we get in the game, but the narrative does unfortunately fall flat at a few key points. The big twists are too heavily hinted too soon, and the hub world doesn't have enough to keep you interested in exploring. The dialogue and lore we do get is wonderful, but it feels like just the tip of the iceberg.
Favorite character in that game:
Honestly it's very hard to pick because there's so many on the faves list. DJ Subatomic Supernova, Neon J, Zuke and Mayday, Tatiana- Mama!! Mama and DJSS are definitely very high up there. (1010 & Neon J is the boss fight I keep replaying, though.)
Would I recommend it? Why?
Soft yes...? There are technical issues and gameplay problems, especially with the Switch version, but I absolutely DO recommend becoming familiar with the game, even if that’s by watching either a playthrough or just the boss fights alone, because it's worth seeing those areas where the game really shines.
Free space to go off about something!
The game has principle themes about railroading creators into one genre because 'That's what sells', as well as when idolisation goes wrong and it is so interesting!! Mayday's primary motivation is to her idol, a former rockstar who was reportedly a sensation. But in the process of trying to achieve her goals Mayday starts making bad decisions and hurting people for the sake of her mission, essentially doing what the antagonists are doing by trying to take over the city, again, just like the antagonists did in the first place, which is what Mayday and Zuke were trying to fight against IN THE FIRST PLACE. The big twists shows what happens when that kind of glorification of a celebrity - when the celebrity has barely any idea who you are in the first place - goes down a very dark path.
OH OH- The world also pulls a lot of influence from Malaysian (I believe that's the right term?) culture, since the studio is based in Malaysia, and I think that's pretty neat. One of the characters is even voiced by a known local radio host. It feels like it's baked into the game out of fondness rather than as a gimmick, and there's probably quite a few references I missed because I'm from a completely different country.
Rating out of 10:
A solid 6.5/10. The game isn't a masterpiece, and I beat it in a 24 hour period, but I keep coming back to it for the characters and the world they live in. For the studio's first game, they did a pretty decent job, and I hope they get to make more stuff in the future.
Send me a game title and I'll rate it
#No Straight Roads#AHHHHHH THANK YOU FOR ASKING I LOVE THIS GAME#It's like an ugly stuffed animal - yeah the eyes are kinda wonky and a leg's missing but it's endearing and good for a cuddle

DJSS mains Meta Knight, partly cuz they share the blue orb look with deep sultry voices that may or may not have got the fans' love.
Bonus: DJ memorized all the lines of Meta Knight with a spot on impression and quotes it every time he wins.
Bonus Bonus: He also knows the lines from the Kirby Anime (dub), which the Sayu team goes ape sh** about.

Do you have any thoughts on what NSR characters would fit & combinate well with any of the abnormalities from Lobotomy Corporation?
*Cracks knuckles* Aw heck, here we go again- (Think I had gotten a similar ask but with lm3 boss ghostes- welp at least this time there are less characters fgdjs) (Spoilers for both Lobotomy Corp and No Straight Roads under read more!)
Mayday and Zuke (But more May-) -Punishing Bird Breaches whenever it thinks there’s danger to help- does the absolute contrary of help. Attacking/Pestering someone that was just trying to work. Just like May thought the best way to fix the energy problem and bring back rock was to destroy the power sources-... yeah the recklesness of these two is about right sdhsdj. ... also I dare to say- both May and lil’ bird? Both got.. quite the big mouth eh oh- this was bad sorry dsudhs. -Big Bird Mostly same reasoning. Just as Big Bird goes “Well, if I kill the creatures the monster will not kill them” they went “Well, if we create enough energy the others don’t have to create energy!” and went on the Hijack spree. Also Big Bird, as we can kinda guess in their legacy final observation, reacts especially well with calm people- who don’t get scared easily and look over the appearence of something-.. I think they would do well with Zuke. Plus they only break out after a second trumpet/many fatalities- so they are lowkey more reflecting than like.. Punishing Bird- so it’s a nice pair for May and Zuke. DJSS: -Der Freischütz Both of them met their “demise” because of their pride (Frei lost his soul to the devil by becoming a monster, DJ was sent out of the orbit by a pair of simpletons-.. think the burns are comparable yep)- thinking they could beat someone just because they were playing on their field. Plus they object head buds. -Child of the Galaxy ...Yes it’s because of the Galaxy theme;; It does also follow my headcanon that DJ is not completely from Earth tho- so like-.. the sensation of not belonging and the search of a “friend” (Like minded individual in case of DJ) is also there. The rest tho-... mhhh- doesn’t fit much but ye;; -Notes from a Crazed Researcher The last line of its observation made me think of DJ and their Galaxy Brain idk djsgdjs.
Guess I just see them as someone that would persue knowledge that they’re interested in no matter the lenghts they’d have to go for it. Sayu -Opened can of WellCheers The crew and Sayu would just vibe with them shrip lads ngl dshdjs. Oke for real- mostly thought about how her “video introduction” is her promoting some kind of sea themed snack- and these guys came to mind. There is also the fact that in the legacy version, if they were in a bad mood, a wave would sweep away the employee working on them- and also! In their Final Observation, no matter what you choose, you will consume the drink they offer and get sweeped away by the sea-... sounds like you can’t fight the currents uh? -Queen of Hatred I mean- both are kawaii animu girls that become cool looking “monsters” once enraged and beat you up.. perfect match ohohoh. -Porcubus I mean- Porcubus makes your head explode with happyness- Sayu? WIth her absolute banger of a theme (seriously I had that tune as a earworm for at least a month- not that I minded ohoh) and also because of her cuteness ngl- It’s also the fact that they both just want to live their life and make others happy- what they bring is something bigger than them (Sayu’s crew helping EDM take over while just following their dreams- and Porcubus who just cannot control their ecstasy inducing venom.) -Would also say Dreaming Current because of the ocean aesthetic and rainbow bubbles- and especially because both were just about the dreams of some children-... but it’s such a sad story about sickness and drugs;; don’t have the heart. -Fun fact! In the Lob Corp Artbook (I’m that much of a nerd for that game) there are sketches of an abnormality that would’ve been based off “The Little Mermaid”. I think it would’ve been perfect for Sayu.. but it was discarded like many other cool ideas;; Yinu & Mama -Ppodae Looks harmless until angered/breached- kinda like how Yinu looks like an easy boss being a simple kid- but then Mama comes in with all of rage. -Dream of a Black Swan The story of a sister that went as far as she could to save her brothers from a mysterious sickness that took over her city. When it breaches it’s the sister that you have to defeat- she also has an attacks reflecting umbrella. She reminds me of Mama because of the fact that she has two forms (One shows two heads while just wondering, the other has them concealed as a swan head when she attacks) and because of her prtective nature and how she shields Yinu during the fight. There is also the whole sickness thing that “torn both of these families apart”- one just less tragic than the other. -Would also put in Burrowing Heaven because of this part of its “story”:
The first lines reminds me of how as the battle progresses the stage is elevated more and more off the eart beneath. The middle I feel summarizes Mama’s rage and Yinu’s despair close to the end. Mama was blinded by rage, she was caring more about her child to keep up her performance (what SHE thought was important to her) rather than what Yinu was actually feeling. She only comes back to herself when she hears their music- when she “opens” her eyes again and directs her attention to what is really important- not the piano or her performance, but their bond as a family. The last line- well that just me crying at the ending scene of their battle :,D 1010 & Neon J -Army in Pink Just soldiers trying to help- but that might get overwhelmed in their duty if fatalities happen or if you’re putting too much work onto them. Lowkey fits them- -Crumbling Armor I feel it’s perfect as a rappresentation of maybe Neon’s former self- a reckless shell left behind but that still calls to him when the situation gets drastic. -The Silent Orchestra Beating you senseless with beams while still performing- yeah sounds familiar. There is also the fact that in total are five members but in contaiment only the conductor appears- kinda like how 1010 is the enemy on the field- but it’s Neon who is behind it all. Also both got Style- -All-Around Helper ...Listen I can’t even see this lil’ guy as an abnormality;; it just happened to have a factory defect that made it a killing machine instead of a romba of sort- poor thing,, I just like to think of Neon trying to fix them up- or keep them as a killing machine pet lmao. Eve -Fragment of the Universe Both their main thing is being misunderstood and having to communicate through an artistic field- The way the body also looks like a child scribble- it has a lot of expression just like in Eve’s case. -Snow White’s Apple Wondering when will your story have a happy ending or a true love kiss- I feel it fits Eve’s past spent searching for her other half- for someone that would make her happy. -Child of the Galaxy -Once again- attachment issues. Many of them;; Loving and thinking about someone so much that you end up hurting them involountarly while lost in the joy and inspiration they brought in your life (Nadia and Zuke’s past). The fact that they both get particularly dangerous when divided/refused from the one they love or when they fall into despair is also a good match. -Mirror of Adjustment is also a good one for her. A mirror that changes you to be the best in your own way- fits with how by changing how she perceived herself she finally accepted herself. Tatiana - Fiery Bird Kinda self explainatory ngl- the way the burnt looking bird ignites once breached reminded me of her Boss Fight. -Price of Silence This is a legacy only abnormality- but I thought it fit more with her time powers more than Backward Clock did. There is this thing about being unable to escape a certain present (time) that makes me think of her trying to escape from her rock past but ending right back into it in the end. -Judgement Bird A blind bird that decided that justice would only come from their broken scale- that only gave the “guilty” result. The way Tatiana just wanted to ban rock to yes- get back to MayDay- but also in fear that the chaos that she had brought with the Goolings would repeat itself (just like the Judgment Bird was deeming innocents gulity in case they were the monster). In the legacy version also- if you pass the Final Observation and put the bird regrets to rest- they will simbolically give you their scale. Kinda like how in the end Tatiana leaves her guitar to May- to let her continue her past legacy.. just in a better way. Phew- I’m done;;; A bit rushed especially towards the end but my mind was rushing so much with the possibilities;; had to cut some because it was getting waaaay too long whoops-
#the cloud can speak oh boi#sorry for the possible errors I was just RUSHING THROUGH-#..also yes I like scrolling through the legacy versions a bit too much;;

How did the megaartists react to Yinu or mama falling to their deaths? Will they recover? (Don’t answer this if you’re uncomfortable)
Oh in either scenario they were devastated. Though I would say if Yinu was the one to die then they were all even more messed up because she was just a child.
I would say that yes, they would all recover in the sense that as time goes on, the pain will lessen over time, but it will always be in the back of their minds.
In Mama's death scenario, it really is a shock to everyone, but most put away their pain at loosing a colleague/friend because Yinu needs all of them more than anything else.
I would say, other than Yinu, Neon and Tatiana take it the hardest, but you wouldn't be able to tell because the two work so hard to hide their pain. Tatiana so she can take care of everything on the NSR side, and Neon so he can give all his support and care to Yinu as he becomes a temporary care taker for her.
The other artists are pretty sad and upset, but I feel like they are able to take it a lot better because they weren't entirely close to Mama. Like of course they were friends, but still not entirely super close.
In Yinu's case, I think it would be much different. Everyone takes it horribly. I already explained how Mama reacts, with her destroying a lot of buildings around her and covering everything in roots. But the others are just as shocked and heartbroken as they can be.
I would say the Sayu Crew (Sayu is not sentient at this point), 1010 (at least Haym and Eloni), and Neon take it the worse, other than Mama of course. All of them were really close to Yinu and so having her out of their life is something that they will have to learn to deal with. Especially the Crew, Haym, and Eloni who have probably never experienced a loss like this.
Neon does his best to try and help the kids, 1010, and Mama, but it takes a really hard toll on him. Especially as he say his own daughter in Yinu a lot of the time.
Mama does end up moving away and probably never coming back to Vinyl City because she just can't look at any of the city or her colleagues without thinking of her daughter. Everyone else has to take some time, though I think DJSS and Eve are able to get back to making music quicker as they would poor themselves into their work to try and forget or make the pain lessen.
Neon would also dive deep into working, but isn't going to push 1010 to perform extra. So he just ends up constantly creating new songs and isolating himself. Sayu Crew probably take the longest to get back to normal and even then, they never seem as super chirpy and chipper as they used to be.
Tatiana feels at fault by the whole situation and creates an age rule that states charters have to be over 16 no exceptions. She changes this to over 18 once the Sayu Crew get of age (either that or she makes a rule that no NEW charters are allowed under the age of 18) so that if a situation like this ever arises again, at least a child won't loose their life in the name of a company.

What would a Failed Revolution look like in the purely OG timeline? So… it would be the same except 1010 or someone else finished B2J off…
I'm not sure there is a way that the OG timeline could become a failed revolution. At least not how I see the OG timeline.
DJSS is basically the same in both versions, so that doesn't change no matter what. Him being full of themself but also not seeing this coming at all is definitely major factors that will almost always lead to DJSS being defeated (with the only times I see DJ as being an ender of the revolution is if they were just hired, if they were recently threatened with being fired, or if their satelite plan is still in the approval process).
For Sayu, maybe the crew could defeat B2J but I don't think they would. They aren't very angry or upset with life as they are free from their parents, and so there is no real motivation to take B2J seriously even though DJSS was sent into space. It is only by the end of the fight they take things seriously and by that point they are so disjointed that there is no way for them to truly work together and defeat B2J.
With Yinu and Mama, I can see the revolution stopping here, but only if the fall at the end of the fight goes wrong. It's not really the fight that is won, but the fall that is lost. If Mama or B2J fall wrong it can be a simple injury or something more serious. And if Mama fails to even catch Yinu then that would be the end for her. Both of these situations would end the revolution. Especially if Mama or Yinu die in the fall, B2J would not be able to continue because they took a life and the guilt and pain would stop them. If they get hurt then the revolution ends because they can't continue it (also if they both or one of them die).
1010 have a lot more humanity/sentience in them thanks to still having their doll code and memories in them. Because of this, they would never hurt B2J to the point that the FRAU 1010 do. However, Purl was VERY close to doing what Blue did (maybe not as severely but still going all out) so if B2J (coughZukecough) say something more antagonizing or threatening to 1010 then I can see Purl ignoring safety protocols and just bashing B2J's brains in (just a phrase, Purl would have just knocked both of them out and would have been stopped by Rin from doing anything else major).
Eve I don't see her stopping the revolution at all. Her main goal is to split May and Zuke up, and to talk to Zuke or get him back on her side. She doesn't care about everything going on and her life isn't full of as much hate and pain waiting to be released so she has no (or I guess as much of a) power boost from emotions as a FRAU version where Eve is the stopper.
And with Tatiana, she is also less powerful than her FRAU version because she has had time to come to terms with her life and how the Goolings ended. Yes she is still hell bent on controlling things, but not to the point of truly hurting other people without being pushed into a corner herself. So she would never hurt B2J to the point they would fully stop fighting her. Maybe they would have some burn scars or lacerations, but nothing that adrenaline won't let them ignore for the time being as they kick her ass.
The only other way I see the OG timeline stopping the revolution would be with West. Where Zuke and West's fight (and Zuke disowning West) causes a fight between May and Zuke. This fight wouldn't get resolved and end up splitting the two up and stopping the revolution. Or at least stopping May and Zuke from leading it. Thee revolution could still be going or continued by other people. Or by May herself, but she would quickly get taken out if she tried to solo NSR herself.
So overall, I can only see Yinu, 1010, and West as being people that could end the revolution in the OG timeline. Obviously one lucky hit from any of the charters could end the revolution, but the ones that have the highest chance not based on lucky shots would be Yinu, 1010, and West.
